Practice 1&2 Last week update
Frames compositing and animation last stage.
Practice 2: Light and shadow Update Frame compositing used in animation to combine multiple layers of visual elements into a single frame. Usually this can include combining live-action footage with animation, special effects, or CGI. Here I have combined character animation and background using different photoshop and illustrator files. Each of these layers is composited together and colour corrected for the night, masking, and sometimes motion tracking. The final composited frame we can see in the starting duration.
An example of a well-composed animation is the movie "Grave of the Fireflies" directed by Isao Takahata and produced by Studio Ghibli. I like this movie and also inspires me in the making of my second practice. it also tells a story of firefly. This movie features a combination of hand-drawn animation and compositing techniques, which help to create a sense of realism and emotional intensity. The animation in "Grave of the Fireflies" is particularly notable for its use of lighting, shading, and texture to create a sense of depth and atmosphere.

Journey of Discovery:
The Making of 'The Book of Destroy'
In my SEM A practice1, I crafted an illustrated book titled 'Book of Destroy.' Throughout the creation process of this project, the skills learned in research methodology greatly facilitated my completion of this endeavor. This picture book is not merely a product of imagination; it also validates the practical application of research methodology in the artistic creation process.
The project commenced with extensive research. I devoted a significant amount of time to literature review. The accumulation of vast knowledge and the secondary research on existing works were crucial to my creative process and played a very positive role. These research methods involved not just reading but actively engaging with existing literature and creations. Critical thinking enabled me to comprehend and filter meaningful ideas and connect them to my project.
Research methods, especially literature reviews, have become tools for my creation. They help me deconstruct complex ideas and identify the core elements of a theme. This process was not just about gathering information; it also sought inspiration and direction for my creation. I particularly enjoyed conducting a literature review before starting the drawing phase of the project. It was a particularly meaningful activity that quickly helped me identify key issues and themes related to my project. This was not just a research step but a creative strategy, guiding me to identify a design problem and a gap in knowledge, and aiding in conducting primary research.
The transition from research to the actual creation of 'Book of Destroy' was a transformative process. Every decision, from color selection to illustration style, and narrative approach, was influenced by my research findings. This book was not just an illustration project; it also demonstrated how research methods could guide and enrich creative work.
Looking back at this project, 'Book of Destroy' has proven the significance of combining research and creativity. This project taught me that research methods are not just for academic papers; they can be fundamental tools for any creative work. Especially literature review, which is a critical step that helped me define the theme of the creation and find the knowledge gap.
The creation of 'Book of Destroy' was an important learning experience. It showed me the importance of research in the creative process. In my academic and creative journey, I will continue to use the research methods I have learned. This project taught me that a good creative work requires thorough research and thoughtful design.

SIAC Arbitration: An Overview
Tumblr media
Introduction Arbitration is a method of resolving disputes between parties without resorting to litigation in courts. Arbitration is usually faster, cheaper, and more confidential than litigation. Arbitration also allows the parties to choose the arbitrators, the rules of procedure, and the applicable law. One of the leading arbitration institutions in the world is the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). SIAC is a not-for-profit international arbitration organisation based in Singapore, which administers arbitrations under its own rules of arbitration and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Arbitration Rules12. SIAC was established on 1 July 1991 and is located at Maxwell Chambers, formerly the Customs House2. SIAC has a reputation for providing high-quality, efficient, and impartial arbitration services. SIAC has handled over 6,000 cases from 147 countries and territories, involving parties from various sectors and industries1. SIAC has a panel of over 500 independent and experienced arbitrators from 46 jurisdictions, who are experts in various fields of law and practice1. SIAC also has a Court of Arbitration, which oversees the case administration and appointment of arbitrators, and a Secretariat, which handles the day-to-day operations of SIAC1. Arbitration Clause for SIAC To refer their disputes to SIAC for arbitration, the parties need to include an arbitration clause in their contract. An arbitration clause is a written agreement between the parties that they will submit any present or future disputes arising out of or in connection with their contract to arbitration, instead of litigation. SIAC provides model arbitration clauses on its website for the parties to use or adapt. The model clauses vary depending on whether the parties wish to arbitrate under the SIAC Rules or the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, and whether they wish to specify the seat (legal place) of arbitration, the number of arbitrators, and the language of arbitration1. For example, a simple arbitration clause for SIAC Rules arbitration could be: Any dispute arising out of or in connection with this contract, including any question regarding its existence, validity or termination, shall be referred to and finally resolved by arbitration administered by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (“SIAC”) in accordance with the Arbitration Rules of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (“SIAC Rules”) for the time being in force, which rules are deemed to be incorporated by reference in this clause. The seat of the arbitration shall be .* The Tribunal shall consist of arbitrator(s).* The language of the arbitration shall be .* *The parties may agree on any seat, number of arbitrators, and language of arbitration. If they do not agree, these matters will be determined by SIAC or the Tribunal in accordance with the SIAC Rules. Invocation of Arbitration Clause To commence an arbitration under SIAC, the party initiating the arbitration (the claimant) must submit a notice of arbitration to SIAC and to the other party (the respondent). The notice of arbitration must include: - A request for arbitration; - The names and contact details of the parties and their representatives; - A reference to the arbitration clause or agreement; - A brief description of the contract and the dispute; - The relief or remedy sought; - The preferred number of arbitrators (if not agreed by the parties); - The preferred seat of arbitration (if not agreed by the parties); - The preferred language of arbitration (if not agreed by the parties); and - A copy of the contract containing the arbitration clause or agreement1. The claimant must also pay a non-refundable filing fee to SIAC. The amount of the filing fee depends on whether the arbitration is under the SIAC Rules or the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules1. The date on which SIAC receives both the notice of arbitration and the filing fee is deemed to be the date of commencement of the arbitration. Appointment of Members of Tribunal The number and method of appointment of arbitrators are determined by the parties’ agreement or by SIAC in accordance with the applicable rules. Under the SIAC Rules, if the parties have agreed on a sole arbitrator, they may jointly nominate an arbitrator within 14 days from receipt of notice from SIAC. If they fail to do so, SIAC will appoint an arbitrator. If they have agreed on three arbitrators, each party may nominate one arbitrator within 14 days from receipt of notice from SIAC. The two party-nominated arbitrators will then nominate a third arbitrator within 14 days from their confirmation. If any party fails to nominate an arbitrator or if the two party-nominated arbitrators fail to nominate a third arbitrator, SIAC will appoint an arbitrator1. Under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, if the parties have agreed on a sole arbitrator, they may jointly nominate an arbitrator within 30 days from receipt of notice from SIAC. If they fail to do so, SIAC will appoint an arbitrator. If they have agreed on three arbitrators, each party may nominate one arbitrator within 30 days from receipt of notice from SIAC. The two party-nominated arbitrators will then nominate a third arbitrator within 30 days from their confirmation. If any party fails to nominate an arbitrator or if the two party-nominated arbitrators fail to nominate a third arbitrator, SIAC will appoint an arbitrator1. In both cases, SIAC will appoint an arbitrator from its panel of arbitrators, unless it considers that there are exceptional circumstances that require the appointment of an arbitrator from outside the panel. SIAC will also take into account the parties’ preferences, the nature and circumstances of the dispute, and the nationality, qualifications, and availability of the arbitrators1. Rules of Procedure - The rules of procedure for SIAC arbitration are mainly governed by the parties’ agreement or by the applicable rules. The parties may agree on any procedural matters that are not contrary to the applicable rules or mandatory law. The Tribunal has the power to conduct the arbitration in such manner as it considers appropriate, subject to the parties’ agreement and the applicable rules. Some of the main procedural matters that are regulated by the SIAC Rules or the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules include: - The exchange of statements of claim and defence, and any counterclaims and replies; - The production of documents and other evidence; - The appointment of experts and witnesses; - The conduct of hearings and written submissions; - The determination of issues of jurisdiction, admissibility, relevance, materiality, and weight of evidence; - The application of interim or emergency measures; - The calculation and allocation of costs; and - The rendering of awards13. The Tribunal may also adopt any additional rules or guidelines that it considers appropriate for the efficient and fair conduct of the arbitration, such as the SIAC Practice Notes or the International Bar Association Rules on the Taking of Evidence in International Arbitration. Conclusion SIAC arbitration is a popular and effective method of resolving international commercial disputes. SIAC arbitration offers many advantages to the parties, such as flexibility, neutrality, expertise, efficiency, and finality. To refer their disputes to SIAC arbitration, the parties need to include an arbitration clause in their contract. To commence an arbitration under SIAC, the claimant needs to submit a notice of arbitration and pay a filing fee to SIAC. The appointment of arbitrators is done by the parties or by SIAC in accordance with the applicable rules. The rules of procedure for SIAC arbitration are mainly determined by the parties’ agreement or by the applicable rules. The Tribunal has wide discretion to conduct the arbitration in a manner that ensures a fair and expeditious resolution of the dispute. Read the full article

Valuing a Dental Practice: Factors to Assess for a Smart Investment
Introduction
When considering the purchase of a dental practice, one of the crucial steps is determining its value. Properly valuing a dental practice is essential to make a smart investment decision. It requires a comprehensive assessment of various factors that contribute to the practice's worth. In this article, we will explore the key factors to consider when valuing a dental practice, with insights from US Dental Transitions valuation, a reputable advisor specializing in dental practice transitions.
Tumblr media
Subheading: Understanding the Value of a Dental Practice
1. Financial Performance
Assessing the financial performance of a dental practice is fundamental in determining its value. Review the practice's revenue, profitability, and expenses over the past few years. Analyze key financial indicators such as collections, production, and overhead costs. Consider trends and growth potential in the practice's financial performance.
2. Patient Base and Retention
Evaluate the patient base and retention rate of the practice. A well-established patient base with high retention indicates a stable and valuable practice. Consider factors such as the number of active patients, new patient acquisition rate, and patient demographics. A diverse patient base with a strong potential for growth adds value to the practice.
3. Location and Demographics
The location of the dental practice plays a significant role in its value. Assess the local market dynamics, population demographics, and competition. A practice located in a desirable area with a growing population and limited competition is likely to have a higher value.
Subheading: Tangible and Intangible Assets
4. Equipment and Technology
Evaluate the equipment and technology used in the practice. Consider the age, condition, and functionality of the dental equipment. Up-to-date technology and modern equipment can enhance the practice's efficiency and value.
5. Physical Facility and Lease
Assess the physical facility of the practice and the terms of the lease, if applicable. Consider factors such as the condition of the building, office layout, and lease terms. A well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing facility can positively impact the practice's value.
6. Brand Reputation and Goodwill
Evaluate the practice's brand reputation and goodwill within the community. Consider factors such as the practice's reputation for quality care, positive patient reviews, and referrals. A strong brand and goodwill can significantly contribute to the practice's value.
Subheading: Transition Support and Future Potential
7. Transition Support
Consider the level of transition support provided by the seller. Will the seller assist with the transition process, including patient introductions, staff training, and knowledge transfer? A smooth transition and continued patient satisfaction are valuable assets in a dental practice.
8. Growth Potential
Assess the potential for growth and expansion of the practice. Consider factors such as the availability of additional treatment rooms, potential for specialization, and the ability to attract new patients. A practice with growth opportunities has higher value and potential for a return on investment.
9. Industry Trends and Market Conditions
Stay informed about the current industry trends and market conditions. Factors such as changes in reimbursement rates, advancements in dental technology, and shifts in patient preferences can influence the value of a dental practice. Keep these factors in mind when assessing the practice's long-term viability and value.
Conclusion
Valuing a dental practice requires a comprehensive evaluation of various factors. Assessing the financial performance, patient base, location, tangible and intangible assets, transition support, and growth potential are essential steps in determining the value of a dental practice. Consulting with professionals, such as US Dental Transitions, can provide valuable expertise and guidance throughout the valuation process. By considering these factors, you can make an informed investment decision and secure a valuable dental practice for your future success.

Practice 1: Red vs Blue - Concept
Tumblr media
Daniel Simon, (2020)
To kick this year off I was challenged to create something that had a relation to the theme 'Red Vs Blue' in my chosen discipline.
It has been some time since I properly sat down and created something in 3D, so I decided to refresh myself on all the relevant tools.
The 2010 Film Tron: Legacy was a childhood favourite of mine, and perfectly suits this assignment, as the premise of the movie is that the programs (Red) are on a continuous hunt for the users (Blue)
In order to make this relevant to my discipline, I decided to try to recreate the 3-seater Light Jet. The original artist Daniel Simon was responsible for creating all of the vehicles and aircraft within the movie, and he shares some great concept art on his personal portfolio.
This is where I will be taking all my inspiration from, and attempting to recreate the aircraft in the below image.
Concept Drawings
To start planning this project I decided to create several 'Draw-over' sketches, this has helped identify the silhouette and will continue to help as I create the block out for this vehicle.

Character design
I designed two rabbits, whose shapes are based on circles, which can make the rabbits look more lovely. Originally, I wanted to design the rabbits to be more realistic, but because the story structure is virtual, the rabbits also used exaggeration. They are set as sisters, dark pink as an elder sister, light pink as a sister. My original idea was to design cartoon characters rather than animals, but I thought the name of the food was more dreamy, so I wanted to use a virtual lovely character to show the warmth of the story.

RED CHASES BLUE
Conceptualization and thought process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The theme for my first project is ‘Red vs Blue’ and we were to turn it into a project within our own discipline field. While searching for creative ideas and inputs, two concepts came into play. The light signal from police cars (Red and Blue) and the ongoing rival between Pepsi and Cola once again, Red and Blue.   The first concept will be a police car with its siren on travelling down the streets painting the side of the building with red and blue lights. The idea behind this was nature and the purpose of the siren. Intimidation from the reds and a sense of calmness and protection from the blues.
The second concept will be the ever-going rivalry between Coca-Cola and Pepsi. “Are you a Cola or Pepsi person”? Some will argue that it tastes the same, but some will strongly contest that argument.

Red vs Blue #1
As part of our first practical project for my MA in games Art and awe were tasked with creating a still image using a real-time engine that fits the brief of Red vs Blue/Red chases Blue. I sat down and started brainstorming and the idea of working within the realm of Pokemon appealed to me. Initially, I had wanted to contrast Pokedex against a Digivice but decided it was too simple a project and limited me to creating two static assets/props. Within this MA I want to push my environment art skills and hence decided on doing a reimagination of Professor Oak's lab from Pokemon Red/Blue. The Lab is the site of Red and Blue's first-ever battle convinced me to go for it. I started out by doing a very rough blockout of the lab in Maya.
Tumblr media
The original design from Oak's Lab.
Tumblr media
Rough initial blockout maintaining the original style.
UE4 - Test #1
I dropped the blockout into UE4 to get a sense of the scale and a feel for the room with a character in it and wasn't pleased with the layout or size of the room. The room felt too cramped and didn't translate into a modern interpretation of Oak's Lab and didn't suit the 3D space. This led me to rework the blockout and create a new reimagined version of the Lab using references from the Pokemon Fire Red and Let's go Games.
Tumblr media
First blockout in UE4.
Tumblr media
Oak's lab in Fire Red.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oak's lab in "Pokemon Let's Go!". Using the lab from "Let's Go as the basis for the layout seemed like a smarter decision as there was a lot more room for adding in the newer elements. It was a good foundation while allowing me to push the visual look beyond the simple visual style and look of "Let's go!"
I set about creating a list of the assets I would need to populate the environment to help organize the progress and to create goals and timelines to complete the project within the stipulated time.
