Kind of funny. SPN was supposed to end in s5, with Sam in Hell, Cas in Heaven, and Dean on Earth, living with a wife and a son. But it ends after ten more season later with Cas in superhell, Dean in Heaven, and Sam on Earth, living with a wife and a son. Like some fucked up game of musical chairs. Except the chairs are never taken, the song remains the same, and they’re just going in circles. Anyways, Happy November 19th.

yall, please do yourselves a favor and read this fic. its the most perfect thing to fix a broken heart after watching swan song, and the fact that it was posted back in 2010 really adds something to it. its so cool to see fans’ reaction to the episode back when it had just aired and there was no way of knowing what the rest of the show would look like.

its beautifully written, very tender and warm. there are sections that take place in dean’s dreams (sort of, its complicated), and the whole thing has such a beautifully dreamlike quality to it. and its just so full of love :)

maybe im just being dramatic but genuinely i think swan song is so brain altering when you watch it for the first time. the whole thing about having to choose between freedom and peace, culminating in sam taking back control of his body from lucifer to jump into the cage

sam's whole story is about being unable to choose his own fate, being doomed to live life as a hunter and lucifer's vessel and one of the special children. he's been manipulated and yanked around for his entire life but he finally gets his own autonomy and with it he jumps into the cage because despite everything he still chooses to be good. sam winchester my babygirl

ik we always talk about spn ending with the season 5 finale like it was supposed to and not to be a dean kinnie but. i dont know if i wouldve ever been happy with it, knowing that sam gave up his freedom and stayed in hell for eternity to stop the apocalypse. like what a devastating fate for a character who's spent his entire life being yanked around and manipulated and having his autonomy stripped from him. he's been told his entire life that he can't make his own choices and then he gets one single moment where he can take control back from lucifer and he uses it to jump into the cage. like ough sammyyyyyyyyyy
