WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going super great. When she suffers a dread injury during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, the Ravens pack her off for some obligatory and undesired R&R.
The sleepy beach town of Murk is relaxing, but so far from anything resembling excitement or action that she worries she’ll never get back in the game. But then this down-on-her-luck soldier of fortune starts whiling away her many free hours at a beleaguered bookshop and in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor.
We don’t always know what we need, or which small choices change the paths of our lives.
And adventure isn’t so far from Murk as Viv thinks! A suspicious traveler in gray, a gnome with a chip on her shoulder, a summer fling, and an improbable number of skeletons would like a word.

Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my lovely Patreons for June! A cozy scene from Legends & Lattes (by @travis_baldree), featuring Viv and Tandri trying out Thimble's scrumptious Cinnamon Roll! If you missed it, reading this book for this SAW prompted me to make my own Cinnamon Rolls from scratch (for research, of course!) I have a highlight of these shenanigans on my Instagram. 😂 Are we excited for the Bookshops & Bonedust prequel? 🔥

Hello happy pride month, here are some sweet and relatively low-stakes queer reads for you:
Cursed Cocktails by SL Rowland - a blood mage retires after decades of fighting to protect his people, and moves to a small coastal town where the heat will be good for his chronic pain. He opens a cocktail bar and maybe falls in love with his business partner.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune - case worker has to investigate a group home of very powerful magical orphans. One of them is the antichrist. He tries not to lose his mind. Finds love (platonic and romantic) along the way
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree - badass orc barbarian decides to retire from her life of fighting and opens a cafe in a town where no one has heard of coffee before. Finds a family along the way.
A Rival Most Vial by RK Ashwick - two rival potion shop owners who hate everything about each other find out they have to work together on a potion for the mayor. Find out that maybe they don't hate each other that much after all. Oh and there's a found family in there somewhere.

“The combined aromas of hot cinnamon, ground coffee, and sweet cardamom intoxicated her, and as she brewed and smiled and served and chatted, a deep contentment welled up. It was a glowing warmth she’d never experienced before, and she liked it. She liked it a great deal.” ― Travis Baldree, Legends & Lattes

Legends And Lattes by Travis Baldree
Ever since I first heard of this book I was intrigued. It's described as an high fantasy with low stakes, people who read it defined it super cozy, so I had to try it. Especially because in the past few years I have read less fantasy than I'd like to admit, mostly because I felt like I didn't have enough mental energy to follow a complicated high fantasy world, I don't like to get into books just because and not dedicate each of them the right amount of attention and energies. This book was the perfect lighthearted and cozy story with a fantasy setting that just made it so much better. This has definitely entered my comfort books shelf, I will definitely pick it up again in the future when I need something cozy to feel better about everything in life. The story is quite simple, Viv, an orc, decides she has had enough advenutres and decides to open a cafe. It's the perfect story for autumn and winter because it is indeed very cozy, and it will make you want to bake every food you read about. I highly recommend this novel, I think it would work amazingly for those who want to read fantasy without getting into a super complicated world of politics, it would also work very well if you want to get into fantasy but are intimidated by the genre, this could be a very light-hearted start. I also think it could be the perfect book to get you out of a reading slump.
This is one of the books I read for the studyblr w/knives autumn reading challenge for the anticipated release prompt.
