@esper-aroon has enabled me, so here let me scream at y'all about The Imperial Uncle.
Tumblr media
Okay, so I recently read The Imperial Uncle (Huang Shu) by Da Feng Gua Guo from Peach Flower House and I really loved it??? It's first person pov, mlm, about the Emperor's uncle Jing Chengjun, who is mistrusted by everyone simply because of who his parents were and his position, and so he's basically given up on trying to convince people that he's actually a nice, decent person without ulterior motives. He's super trapped by his position, and there's so much he can't say and do, and he's also a hopeless romantic, like, from his own mouth all he really wants is to sleep beside and wake up next to someone who actually gives a shit about him, and even that is basically out of reach in his life. Like, the book starts with his wife (who he has never once had sex with) storming into a meeting he's having and announcing he's a cuckold and she's pregnant.
But also, this poor bastard really thinks he knows what's going on and his very smart. Very unreliable narrator. He's actually kinda a hilarious, impulsive himbo. But the TL:DR is that his loneliness and isolation and the extent to which he's politically trapped routinely lead him to make absolutely terrible decisions.
E. Danglar's translation is absolutely gorgeous, too, and... idk, if you love political plots, melodramatic idiot main characters, a dose of pining, and a slow burn that eventually pays off, come take a look??? (some people think it's a love triangle??? idk, I never really got that vibe, I never felt it was really in doubt which of the two potential dudes he'd end up with, but maybe I only feel that way because I got it right, lmao).
Anyway, I can't stop thinking about how these two idiots end up finally finding each other and getting together, and I have an entire AU in my head (a modern corporate one) and part of another (canon divergent from like a decade before the book starts), and I just want people to love this book as much as I did and scream with me about it.

@chrisrin‘s gemcyt au !! “Pearl” is actually Joel here :3
//
Well. Running was stupid.
The Human Zoo is absolutely not set up the same way as the palace- all confusing hallways and rooms that have doors at both ends, usually nice for escaping but now annoying as he’s been cornered twice now, only escaped because he’s willing to poof other gems- he’s feisty, for a pearl. At least for today. He knows he’s going to be shattered for this, he may as well go down fighting.
Left, left, left, he’s going in circles. Rubies shout behind him, five voices becoming one when they fuse. They’re faster now, but he’s got a head start, and he goes right this time, immediately crashing into a quartz on the turn-
He looks up, eyes going wide-
“Etho! Etho- poof me!”
He doesn’t have to ask twice.
//
Pearl isn’t usually aware of the happenings outside of his gem when he’s recharging. It’s dark when he poofs, he’s whisked away somewhere quiet. On a good day it takes him fifteen minutes to Reform, but today he stays quiet, stays put, in Etho’s pocket.
He catches bits of conversation- shouting, alarms, running. Etho gives vague answers to any questioning, and soon enough the rubies move on. Pearl stays put, though, for hours, until gentle hands put him back in open air- until he hears the gentle tap of his gem being set down.
“It’s safe to come out now,” Etho says.
Pearl reforms, swift and effortless, on the floor of a closet full of weapons. He looks up at Etho and confesses, “I’m going to be shattered.”
Etho’s eye widens- he’s not very talkative, for an amethyst, but he talks to Pearl sometimes- “why’s that? What did you do?”
Pearl buries his face in his hands- it’s one thing to commit treason and an entirely other thing to admit to treason. Etho helped him, though- lied for him, took him somewhere safe. He owes him, he thinks.
“I-” it’s terrifying to admit. He does not move his hands, does not speak louder than a whisper “-I fused with Pink Diamond.”
Stars- he’s really going to be shattered for this.
“Ah.”
“I’m going to be shattered,” Pearl says again, with rising terror, “they’re- they’re going to find me, and they’re going to shatter me, and they’re going to shatter you too, an-”
Not just shattered, he’s going to be space dust! If he’s lucky maybe he’ll become a star in about seven trillion years-
“Woah, woah, hey, let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Etho interrupts. He guides Pearl’s hands away from his face and holds them tight, mismatched eyes calm, somehow, despite everything, “you’re going to be okay.”
“And you’re not?”
“I’ll be okay too.”
“How?”
“I know a guy. I’ll get us out of here,” Etho shrugs. Before Pearl can lose his mind over that particular string of words, Etho questions, “how’d you end up fusing with a diamond?”
Pearl freezes. This is really just- not a conversation he wants to have. Etho rubs his thumbs across the back of his hands, grounding- it’s nice.
“We were in the garden,” Pearl confesses, supposing that the floor of a closet isn’t the worst place to confess to being a criminal, “and she ah- she was excited about the humans, and her smile was-”
He swallows, ducking his head.
“-she was dazzling,” he admits, a little breathless, “she was- so excited, and it was beautiful, and they were playing with these little things called otters and one did a flip, and she- she gasped and grabbed my arm and it just- it just kind of-”
He’d fallen out of the fusion only moments after they’d formed. His Diamond had been staring at him, her mouth agape in pure shock. The other guards had been horrified. Every instinct then told him to run, so he did, and he’d been chased, and now-
He wants to hide again, but alas Etho is still holding his hands. He looks up- Etho’s mismatched eyes hold no judgement. He’s smiling.
Pearl scowls. “What?”
“Congrats,” Etho says, calm as a glittering starscape, “fusion’s a special thing.”
Pearl sputters, “It’s treason!”
“That too,” Etho agrees. He squeezes Pearl’s hands and turns serious, “I can get us out of here, but you’ll have to be poofed, and you can’t reform until I say so.”
Oh stars- he’s- he might not be shattered.
“Okay,” he whispers.
“Promise.”
“Etho, I owe you my life,” Pearl retorts, “anything you need me to do, I’ll do it. I promise. I swear it. I don’t want to be shattered.”
Etho nods, and pulls Pearl to his feet. He’s shaking, but only a little, and Etho steadies him with a hand at his back.
“Wh-where are we going?” he asks.
Etho smiles, “you’ll see.”
Pearl vanishes into dark and quiet once again.

OKAY so I have two ideas about a leverage x pjo crossover and they hinge on whether or not the leverage crew are demigods are not. I also have a general one which is what this post is
leverage demigod/pjo au masterpost
I’m betting some (or all) of the leverage crew have complicated feelings about the demigod-godly parent relations. they hear through the grapevine that this 12yo has been accused of stealing zeus’ master bolt and that his mom has been kidnapped by hades and they’re like ABSOLUTELY NOT FUCK YOU
cue hijinks where the leverage crew is behind the scenes while annabeth, grover and percy are on the quest having the road trip from hell. except it’s not actually that bad??? whenever things look like they’re going to get REALLY bad something happens and the kids aren’t in a lot of danger anymore. annabeth is almost annoyed because she wants to prove her worth etc etc (love her dearly but she needs some rest (and therapy)), grover is overwhelmingly relieved, and percy is just hella confused but vibing and set on seeing his mom again
meanwhile eliot is fist fighting a minotaur and like five other monsters, sophie is seducing medusa (and it’s kind of working??? can’t blame her though sophie is a MILF), parker is planning a heist in the underworld, hardison is dusting off a pet project that’s a gadget that cloaks demigods from monster detection (good for everyone but perfect for percy), and nate is masterminding while also furiously planning a beat down speech for the big three
it’s possibility titled: the master bolt job
nate says let’s go steal a stolen master bolt or something like that
(parker: isn’t that defying the gods?
nate: we’re giving it back)
the journey ends with percy’s mom back safe and sound, nate yelling at the gods (but not before letting percy tear them a new one first. of course he lets the kid go first!!!), a new godly child support system, and camp half blood employing their first on-site therapist.
hardison teaches the hephaestus kids how to make tech that doesn’t attract monsters. eliot cooks the best dinner the camp has ever had (hestia who adores him maybe helped), the hermes kids are awed by parker (thee parker?!?). sophie instills the fear of god (woman) into mr d to treat the kids better and gives the oracle a spa day as a treat. nate helps chiron with training-life management for campers (he is NOT a role model for that but he knows what works. chiron is chuffed that this random dude is giving him advice but rolls with it because he’s a good sport)
aphrodite is enamored with the love parker, hardison and eliot have for each other. they don’t know it but she gave them her blessing 💖

A thing I keep coming back to when thinking about Calamity is how, in another story, Zerxus and Laerryn would have been heros. Like we talk about villain-coding our characters but in some cases that can be so dependant on what the in-story environment is and also what genre they exist in. Zerxus, especially-- I feel like in young adult fiction and nineties/2000s sci-fi movies, the whole point of the narreative was demonstrating that large systems/institutions cannot be trusted, especially those that provide you with one narrative that you're meant to adopt as your history and is meant to inform your entire belief system. If Zerxus had done exactly what he'd done in a dystopian novel/movie, listened to someone who society told him was bad, didn't fully trust him but gave him an opportunity? He'd be the change agent that revealed the dark truths of his society and we'd all be cheering for him. Laerryn I would not call a hero in a different context, but I also have a hard time reading her as a villain even within the canon (but I'm biased). What I will say, is do we all remember that Star Trek (or similar space opera show of your choice) episode where the secret project that somebody was working on saved the day? Or countless pieces of media where acting instantly and thoughtlessly to save someone you care about is romanticized? Yeah. Anyway, disclaimers, this is purely my own reading of the text, I'm probably wrong, I am not in any way saying that what they did didn't have horrific consequences. I am just saying that if we scooped up at least half of the Calamity gang and plunked them down in a different genre and they took the same actions, they'd be the good guys without question.

Sooooo does reborn au sasori end up taller than deidara? How mad does deidara get for being the shortest akatsuki member?
omg i hadn't even thought of this
if sasori waits until adulthood to turn himself into a puppet...... listen, i will not accept a tall sasori. but we can have a short king who's STILL ~2 cm taller than deidara <3 as a little treat <3

The blast doors hissed open and they entered the Atrium where Piett paused momentarily, and Veers thus observed his first moments on the Lady’s bridge.
He was a true naval man, Veers reflected watching those keen hazel eyes take in everything eagerly. Veers himself was happiest when leading campaigns on solid ground, but he’d observed the navy enough to see the difference between those there merely for the job and those who were there for their ship.
Piett confirmed he was very much the latter when he reached a gloved hand to gently touch the nearest bulkhead before he recalled himself and glanced to Veers, a little color on his cheekbones.
“She’s ah…” he said, clearing his throat a little. “Her design is beautiful.”
Veers found himself wanting to grin at the slighter man, but this was neither the time nor the place. And then Venka was hurrying over to introduce himself.

Beauxbatons!Regulus who got separated by Sirius because walburga is a bitch wanted her spare heir more academically success in France + separating Reg so he wont get influenced by Sirius who is more rebellious each day. Then triwizard torunament announced and Reg is so excited to see his brother after years (Walburga is less successful intercepting their letters with siri in hogwarts and reg in france).
And then obviously Reg and James chosen as one of the champions.. chaoes ensues because one of them immediately crushing so hard they would made the other one as the winner of the champion. And ofc, one of the task is about flying because jegulus wont be the same without them bickering on the sky. Plus tension between those two when yule ball approaching.

For the pjo hunger games AU, maybe the traitor demigods can be bought?
Like Hades's realm is getting unmanageable. He hates walking through the fields of punishment to make sure the grounds, the equipment, the souls are all working as functioned. Maybe he buys a few demigods to do it for him, fitted with collars or something to make sure they can't escape or disobey.
Maybe Hephaestus buys out his traitor kids as a percieved mercy. As much as he resents/is angry for them turning, he can't stand to see the other gods use and abuse them. So he buys them and makes them do grunt work for the rest of their lives, and they live on the outskirts - knowing their father cares just enough to protect them from other gods abuse/lust, but also knowing that their father doesn't love them. They spend their days cleaning up his workshop and melting unused metal while Hephaestus carefully goes over his favored children's work with love in his eyes and compliments on his tongue, knowing they'll never have that again.
OOHH they absolutely can!! Winners are only bought by the twelve olympians and they are not the furniture or servants, but the Avoxes can be used by every non-minor god.
Nico would be the first to know (the usual) about what gods are doing to the traitors, because his own father will have some working in the Underworld. He would have to swear on Styx to not tell anyone about it (like with Greek/Roman), but will anyone find out about it this time?? I think yeah
And Hephaestus buying his own children to not let other gods abuse them IS an act of mercy there. They work all day, yes, they live who knows where, but their lives are more or less okay, because they are sort of in their element and they don't know what other gods do to their servants, because that just doesn't happen to them.

STAR WARS: Eleventh Fleet AU
Hey-hey, I worked, caught a cold, got sick and that’s enough… …so, concept art for the Eleventh Fleet.
Ar'alani and Vah'nya's designs are fairly simple, but the problem with them in particular, and the Chiss in general, is their clothing and style. There are many official references, including those from Legends, but each artist still has his own vision regarding, for example, the shape of the fleet. Somewhere there is a strong homage to the design from the old canon, somewhere it was modernized, and in the latter they added the same “honor's chains”, which look a little strange on the laconic form. It seems to be in the Chiss style, but very impractical.
As a result, I am reworking the design of the expansion and defense fleet uniform, but more on that another time. Let's return to Ar'alani and Vah'nya.
At the beginning of the events of the "Eleventh Fleet", Senior General Ar'alani on his flagship "Vigilant" is increasingly confronted with the Grysks. A year will pass since her last meeting with Thrawn, when the invaders of the Ascendency space will openly attack the Chiss ships.
Such cat and mouse would continue for another year until the disappearance of another Night Dragon class war cruiser, subsequently leading to disaster in the heart of the Chiss Ascendancy. The Senior General will be one of the few superiors who, along with Ba'kif, can survive. Much of this will be down to Vanto and Ronan - unaccounted for variables in the Grysk's plans. The trust placed in Thrawn's "alien protégés" paid off in full.
The Senior General was often accompanied by Senior Navigator Vah'nya. "Vigilant" almost always accepted missions to search for missing navigators. Vah'nya not only guided the ship through the stars and darkness of outer space, but she was much better at rehabilitating rescued navigators, as well as leading the other navigators on the ship. Friendship with Eli played an important role in this.
Because of her "anomaly" as a Navigator who hasn't lost her powers into adulthood, many of the regulations and rules simply don't work for Vah'nya the way they do for other girls. And to be an “anomaly” for Sindikure is a very subtle walking on the edge of a charrik. And yet, to the dissatisfaction of some aristocrats and syndics, the girl manages to balance on it for quite a long time.
+ bonus Ba'kif timeline concept art.
Because I’m not entirely sure that I’m right, but I really wanted to think about what this gorgeous grandpa would have looked like during the Thrawn. Ascendency Trilogy. And I also reworked his “chains” and other form elements quite a bit. And yes, I’m more than sure that Thrawn adopted Ba'kif’s “style” in his time.

More then that, you owe us an *implausible fix-it ending*
That I can do!
-
Ace did not plan on dying this way. He especially did not plan on having to listen to his grandfather rant about how Regis is a failure of a father while being unable to say anything in his blood fathers defence.
Said father did kill him after all, it’s hard to say something kind when it hasn’t been even a day since he’s been killed.
“-I raised a complete imbecile! I sorely hope the Accursed teaches him a lesson!” Mors rants as Ace nods and absentmindedly wonders if Ramuh is going to be pissed about this.
Ace is Galahdian after all, more than that he has a convent with Ramuh. He is decidedly not supposed to be in the Ring with his forefathers.
But he is which means someone has to answer for sending Ace into the Worst Family Reunion ever.
“The Accursed also plans on turning our kingdom into a ruin,” Somnus’ spirit points out.
“Yes, well maybe if you hadn’t been such a bastard he wouldn’t have such a grudge against us,” The Rogue’s voice is polite and beside her the Clever snickers.
“She has a point,” The Clever says just as their surroundings turn a vibrant purple.
Everyone turns to look at Ace who smiles.
“I’ve had a horrible time,” Ace begins, “And I never want to see any of you ever again so I’m going to be leaving.”
Lightning strikes, thunder rolls across the space like an earthquake.
The Clever laughs.
Ace disappears.
-
So waking up in a morgue in the clothes he died in is not where Ace expected to wind up. But Ramuh has apparently decided Ace has to go and stop his fathers from attempting to murder each other and shoved his soul back into his body.
Fantastic.
Ace grimaces at the dried blood that trails down the front of his shirt and shoves himself off the - hm - is this an autopsy table or just storage? Ace spends a moment wondering about it before he decides it doesn’t matter and begins to drag himself through the Citadel.
Which is predictably in chaos.
Which means that he runs into Luche and a bunch of other Glaives he knows before he even gets to the fucking throne room.
Luche stares at Ace with a complicated expression on his face as Ace uses the wall to help himself stand.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Luche finally asks as Sonitus finally realizes Ace is there and does a double take.
“What the fuck happened?” Sonitus says and automatically moves to help Ace stand. Ace appreciates it and makes a note to bake Sonitus so many cookies if they all survive this.
“My dad killed me,” Ace says blandly, “And now my uncle is trying to kill my dad for killing me. Don’t ask how I came back. Ramuh pulled some bullshit God Move. Point is that I need to go stop my uncle from killing the king and turning this kingdom into a fucking ruin.”
“You said it was your father that killed you. Your father is the fucking king?”
“Yes. Did I not make that clear?”
“You did not!” Luche sounds like he’s about to set everything in a three mile radius on fire. Ace does not blame him.
Then Luche sighs and stares at Sonitus. “Get him to the throne room and for Ramuh’s sake do NOT let Nyx or Libertus see you.”
Sonitus smiles.
It is not a nice smile.
“You’re not allowed to commit regicide,” Ace says and turns his gaze to Luche, “Neither are you.”
“We will talk about it later,” Luche says and Ace doesn’t get another word in before Sonitus is picking Ace up and hauling him away.
-
“Uncle you asshole,” Ace calls from his spot in Sonitus’ arms as the doors to the throne room open easily under the pressure of Ace’s magic.
Sonitus walks in with Ace still in his arms and Ace is treated to the shitty sight of Noctis attempting to gouge out Ardyn’s throat while Clarus and Regis are heaving on the ground.
Ace debates setting his brother on fire. He doesn’t because it Regis went after Ardyn the way Ardyn assuredly went after Regis Ace would also attempt to rip out Regis’ throat.
Ah, family.
“Your family is fucked up,” Sonitus says and everyone’s gaze turns to the two of them.
Ardyn shoves Noctis into a wall and is hovering over Ace in moments.
Sonitus grins at Ardyn - all sharp teeth and silent threat.
“Careful,” he says, “Sparky here just woke up.”
“Fuck you,” Ace hisses and makes an effort to wiggle out of Sonitus arms. It does not work. Sonitus merely tightens his grip on Ace.
Ace stops wiggling.
“At least pass me to him dumbass.”
“Will he hurt you?”
“He’s the one attempting to destroy a kingdom for me so no Sonitus I don’t think he will.”
Ace is handed over to Ardyn who handles Ace like he is a particularly heavy but fragile piece of glass.
“You’re alive.” A statement uttered in disbelief. “You’re alive.” Said again more fiercely with an undercurrent of desperation.
“Yes, Ramuh got pissed at Bahamut for poaching me so he shoved my soul back into the mortal realm. Surprise.”
“Are you hurt?”
“The wound has healed but healing from rigor mortis is a bitch.”
Ardyn laughs.
“It always is.”
“Right. I’m ignoring the implications there because if I think about anything serious I am going to lose it.” Ace peeks over Ardyn’s shoulder at Regis who is now standing with Clarus and Noctis by his side.
Regis looks devastated.
Ace is satisfied at that.
“You’re an asshole,” Ace tells him, “That fucking hurt.” He turns his attention back to Ardyn without waiting for a response. “Hey can you take me back home? I need to shower and change before anyone -especially Nyx and Lib - finds out.”
“Oh,” Sonitus says cheerfully, “Luche already told them that you were severely injured by the King and Libertus is threatening treason.”
“Fuck.”
