Hello everyone!
I hope everyone's having a good weekend so far Unfortunately for me I'm stuck at my day job for another 5 hours but while I'm on break I just wanted to share some stuff I've been working on.
Earlier this year I began work on making my very own horror game. My therapist is actually the one who's been pushing me along and encouraging me to chase this dream of mine. She wanted me to start Journaling about the things we talk about in our sessions but I asked her what she thought about using game dev for that purpose. She was actually delighted by that idea and told me to go for it. Thusly, Diary of Broken Dreams was born.
So what exactly is Diary of Broken Dreams? Well, to put it simply, it's psychological horror game with a strong focus on narrative and puzzle-solving. I'm deriving a lot of inspiration from the art direction of the first four Silent Hill games as well as from their sound design. What sets this game apart from others like it though is two things, first it's artistically autobiographical which means that for better or worse the subject material in the game is based upon my own life experiences. Second, I'm not making it to scare people but rather to make them feel uncomfortable emotions as they pertain to painful memories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently, I have a short 30-minute long demo available people can play or download here: https://dreamchasergames.itch.io/diary-of-broken-dreams
I'm still working on some fixes and changes that I hope to update the game with before the end of the month but beyond that, I've also begun work on the game's next area. That area is the middle school where most of my depression began for me, it's a place of a lot of mental trauma for me that I'm still working through despite being 31 years old now. It's not going to be an easy part of the game for me to develop but I'm excited to do it nonetheless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I can't recall the school's entire layout from memory aside from specific rooms and locations. That's alright though, it allows me to be more creative. What I'm doing to compensate for that is I'm mixing my memories with the layout of Midwhich Elementary from the first Silent Hill game. Doing this is working quite well and the more progress I make the more I'm remembering about my old school. There's more than just pain in these memories which makes it fun. I've been able to recount all the R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike books I used to read back then as well as all the places in the school I would hide just to read them. Some of those books were really good, I might even go back and reread them sometime.
Anyway, I just wanted to talk for a bit about what I've been up to lately. If you read this far and are interested in playing my demo or want to just follow my progress for now please be sure to give me a follow and let me know your thoughts. Believe it or not, this is actually my first game so I'm very grateful for any critique or compliments anyone has to give. Thanks for reading though and I hope you have a fabulous rest of your weekend!

Embark on an Action-Packed Journey with Gori: Cuddly Carnage Cyberpunk
Tumblr media
Gori: Cuddly Carnage cyberpunk horror combat game is still headed to Linux via Proton with Windows PC. Thanks to the skilled team at Angry Demon Studio for making it all possible. Coming to both Steam and GOG. Exciting news for all you fans of wild and wacky adventures. Gori: Cuddly Carnage cyberpunk horror combat will be available on Windows PC starting August 29, 2024. And for all of us on Linux, you can already expect support through Proton.
The game is made to be 100% supported by Proton and a lot of effort has gone into removing any problems that usually occur through Proton. We do not have the capacity to support Linux natively, since we're already stretched thin as a 5 person team. We are using Unreal Engine 5 to make Gori: Cuddly Carnage.
The latest update from Angry Demon Studio: They're already committed to supporting Proton for Linux to ensure smooth gameplay. It also looks like this will extend to the Steam Deck too, even though it hasn't been officially announced yet. In this upcoming Gori: Cuddly Carnage cyberpunk release, you'll meet Gori, a cat who's as adorable as he is dangerous. Alongside him are his hoverboard pal, F.R.A.N.K, and a gloomy AI named CH1P. Together, they're all that stands between the remnants of society and a swarm of crazed unicorns and toys known as the Adorable Army. These are also not your ordinary enemies; they’re toys that are now evil. Due to leading a charge for global chaos under their twisted leader, Pinky.

This isn't just any adventure. Gori: Cuddly Carnage brings back the thrill of 90s-style challenges with a cyberpunk twist. So prepare for a mix of dark humor and terrifying opponents that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The gameplay is also full of intense battles, where you’ll wield explosive weapons. While you pull off amazing combos to keep the Adorable Army at bay. The story kicks off after a mishap by Professor Y, whose experiments turned these once-friendly toys into nightmare fuel. Now, they're out to destroy humanity, and it’s up to you to stop them. As you navigate through bizarre landscapes, you'll face tough environmental obstacles. Due to also take on a soundtrack that matches every heart pounding moment of the journey. This Gori: Cuddly Carnage cyberpunk game harks back to the heart-pumping excitement of late 90s and early 2000s titles. It's all about adrenaline, fun, and the freedom to let creativity fly. Angry Demon Studios has truly embraced the spirit of indie creations with this title. As a result, I’m keen to see it come to life. You don't have to wait to secure your copy. Gori: Cuddly Carnage cyberpunk horror combat is available for pre-order now on Steam, priced at $6.99 USD / £5.89 / 6,89€. It's also due to make its way onto GOG.

Tumblr media
Gameplay
Players have multiple ways to complete objectives/tasks, like using stealth or going on all aggressive. In many areas there going to be multiple different number of enemies, Freakers, Humans, Rippers, etc. Your motorcycle is your most important and reliable ride to explore everything in the biome and in every place you go the weather changes like rain and snow that can sometimes be good for sneaking through enemies.
My opinion
Days Gone has a great gameplay, beautiful biome, good voice acting and has a great story it's not the perfect game it can really get you addicted to it and its really recommended to everyone who owns a ps4 or fans that like games or series like The Walking Dead. Even if you finish the story of the game you can still play in the open world completing bounty's and other missions not story-related and there are some minigames/challenges that you can complete after beating the game. I rate Days Gone a 8/10.
Thank you for stopping by and have a nice day!

hi!!! I love your games and am looking into trying to make one of my own. any tips?
Thanks! And sure, I like helping. These are based on my experience and a couple I got from college, summarized in the 3 I find more useful and important:
If you are making your first game (I'd even go and say your first 1 - 3 games at least) Keep it simple!
I cannot stress this enough, and it is one of the hardest things in game development I keep having to remind myself every, single, time.
I think Jake's Halloween Night is a good example of this. The game is, stripped down to its bare essentials, a game where you find keys to open locked doors, collect 3 items, and that's it, that's the game. And it all happens in a two levels house with 8 rooms, with 1 single character.
I know the temptation to go and make something bigger (that you might not think is big at all cof looks at MegaBite, Lucinda and The Mushroom Killer of).
There is nothing wrong with big projects! They are cool too, but imagine never swimming a day in your life and then deciding next week you will go and swim across a lake.
Chances are you won't have an award winning game that everyone will be talking about, but believe me, a finished game is such a rewarding feeling than looking back at several unfinished projects.
2. There are no "Engines that make bad/good games"
I borrow this one from a teacher in college. Use the game engine that is comfortable for you, the one you know how to use and you have access to. Just because you make a game with RPG Maker, doesn't mean you'll make a bad game, just like using Unreal Engine doesn't mean your game will be good. Sure, some programs will give you things others won't, and some will only work with a certain coding language or graphics, but it's up to you what game you do with the tools you got at hand.
There are a lot of free to try programs to make games out there, and different ranges of price. I haven't been able to try many aside Unity, which I learned in college, and RPG Maker MV, which I picked because I didn't liked Unity. There are others I want to try but I sadly haven't got the time, so I don't really have lots of experience in that area.
The important thing is you pick the one you are comfortable with and that gives you what you want, don't let others tell you your game will be bad just because of the program you picked.
3. Make a game you want to make, don't try to make a game looking for a secret formula to make "a successful game"
This applies to probably all creative work, but make a game you are having fun with, with a story you like, and characters you love. Maybe it's cliche, maybe it's really dumb, but it's easier to keep motivated when you are doing a game you love.
One of the many reasons I paused MegaBite development was because once I was done with College, I realized I was adapting my original idea, to what my professors and classmates seen as a good, normal, commercial game, and that stopped being fun to me, so I've had to take a step back to see what do I want to make with MegaBite.
On the other hand, Jake's Halloween Night is a dumb idea I came up with while hanging out with Popfizzless, and I turned around and told em "I will make a game where you play with a Chad Bro looking guy that at the end turns out to be a slasher" and then I said, "fuck it, his name is Jack O' Lambert because I love puns and I will make all the silly horror movies references I can and that doesn't make sense".
I started on October 5 and ended October 29th, doing a dumb game I was enjoying making, expecting barely anything from it, and next day one of my favorite YouTubers had played it. And I think the best part was seeing him and all the people in the comments having fun with my dumb, cliche, silly ideas. Even seeing YouTubers I didn't knew about, enjoying the game and making jokes about it was so much fun and more enjoyable than if I had made something I didn't enjoy making but got popular.
And to be fair, barely anyone played JHN, but it is still crazy see that bunch of people in MBH commenting theories and finding horror movies references I didn't put there.
Long story short, start with a small, simple game with 1 or two characters, that you enjoy making and are having fun with.
I hope this helps and good luck with your game making!

Hellblade 2 | Ultimate Analysis - This is easily the most graphically impressive title of 2024
Hellblade 2 | Ultimate Analysis - This is easily the most graphically impressive title of 2024 It's been about a week since Senua's Saga: Hellblade II dropped. Here is the in-depth analysis of all aspects of the game after scouring through most of the reviews online, Story: 84/100 (This is the average of story scores across reviews)The story receives high praise for its deep, emotionally impactful, and rich narrative, blending psychological horror, mythological intrigue, and themes of mental illness and trauma. Critics laud the character development and immersive storytelling. However, some note issues with pacing, direction, and a less personal feel compared to the first game. The positives significantly outweigh the negatives though, making it a highly engaging narrative experience.Gameplay: 69/100 (This is the average of gameplay scores across reviews)Critics are split on the gameplay. Positive feedback highlights engaging combat, improved visuals, varied enemies, and seamless transitions, with particular praise for the fast-paced combat and intriguing puzzles. However, detractors point out overly simple puzzles, repetitive combat, and filler content. The game excels in certain areas but has room for improvement to enhance the overall player experience.Graphics: 97/100 (This is the average of graphics scores across reviews)Hellblade 2 is hailed as a visual masterpiece, with critics praising its stunning graphics, realistic environments, and meticulous detail. Despite minor issues like dynamic resolution and overly dark scenes, the game sets a new standard for next-gen visuals, utilizing Unreal Engine 5 to create breathtaking landscapes and seamless gameplay transitions. Overall, it's considered one of the best-looking games ever, making it a must-play for fans of visually striking gamesSound: 90/100 (This is the average of sound and music scores across reviews)The sound design and music received widespread acclaim for their exceptional quality and immersive elements. Critics praised the haunting melodies, ambient sounds, and binaural 3D audio technology, which created a chilling and atmospheric experience. Highlights include the impactful voice acting and auditory hallucinations, though some noted minor issues with dialogue clarity. The audio design is a standout feature, making the game a must-experience with headphones for maximum immersion.Technical Performance: 76/100 (This is the average of performance scores across reviews)Hellblade 2 impresses with its technical performance on Xbox Series X, running at 4K and 30fps, with smooth gameplay - despite minor issues like dynamic resolution and letterboxing. On PC, the experience varies: some face technical glitches, while others enjoy flawless performance on high-end systems. Overall, the game is praised for its stunning visuals and high production values across both platforms, cementing its status as a technical showcase.Overall: 81.25/100Critik.ai: 81/100Metacritic: 81/100Opencritic: 83/100IMDB: 8/10Hellblade 2 dazzles with its stunning visuals, immersive audio, and compelling storytelling, offering a cinematic experience that grips players from start to finish. However, its repetitive gameplay, pacing issues, and lack of narrative depth leave much to be desired. Despite these flaws, the game's artistic achievements make it a must-try for fans of single-player story games, even if it doesn't quite match the brilliance of its predecessor.Do you agree with the consensus? What's your take on it? I personally think it's graphically impressive as hell and has a good story. But man, the gameplay gets repetitive and the pacing drags like crazy at times. It's worth a play for sure if you liked the first game though. Submitted May 27, 2024 at 03:57AM by wtfcommittee https://ift.tt/6NBoQPG via /r/gaming

ROGUE TROOPER is coming to screens written and directed by Duncan Jones
Tumblr media
Duncan Jones made an incredible debut with his Sam Rockwell-starring sci-fi, Moon. However, his follow-ups haven’t collected as much acclaim with the Groundhog Day-on-a-train thriller Source Code, his step into the big-budget franchise world with Warcraft, and his high-concept Netflix sci-fi, Mute. For years, Jones has been developing an adaptation of the comic Rogue Trooper, which is to be an animated feature. The production has been rolling along, and Variety has revealed the cast of actors that Jones has been able to compile for the film. Aneurin Barnard, Hayley Atwell, and Jack Lowden are reportedly said to be the main cast in the lead roles for the science-fiction animated film. Barnard, whose credits include The Goldfinch and Dunkirk, is set to star as the eponymous Rogue Trooper. Joining him in the movie is Atwell, who is known for her roles in the Captain America movies and various Marvel Studios appearances, as well as the recent Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. Rounding out the main cast is Lowden, who was previously seen in Slow Horses and Dunkirk. Jones has additionally assembled Daryl McCormack (Bad Sisters, Good Luck to You Leo Grande), Reece Shearsmith (Inside No. 9, Saltburn), Jemaine Clement (Avatar: The Way of Water, Flight of the Conchords), Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows), Diane Morgan (Cunk on Earth), Alice Lowe (Black Mirror), Asa Butterfield (Sex Education, Hugo) and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings). The movie, which is based on a 2000 AD’s comic book series by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons, will be animated and made with Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.
Tumblr media
Rogue Trooper is one of the greatest characters to come out of 2000 AD, which also publishes characters such as Judge Dredd, Nemesis the Warlock, and Strontium Dog. Created by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons, Rogue Trooper is a genetically engineered soldier bred to fight on Nu-Earth, a hellish planet consumed by an endless war between the Norts and the Southers. The sole survivor of a massacre that claimed his fellow GIs, Rogue sets out on a mission to find the traitor who betrayed them – the personalities of three dead comrades plugged into his helmet, backpack, and rifle. Jones is one of a generation of leading British film directors who have been inspired by the satirical, anti-establishment, and hyper-violent comic strips in 2000 AD. First published in 1977, 2000 AD has been at the cutting edge of British culture for four decades and continues to publish ground-breaking science fiction, fantasy, and horror comics.   2000 AD is the legendary weekly British anthology comic – the home of Judge Dredd and a galaxy of original sci-fi, fantasy, and horror action stars. Producing innovative and provocative comics for 40 years, it has brought the industry some of its biggest talents, from Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, and Mark Millar, to Jock, Brian Bolland, Dave Gibbons, and many more. Published in print and digital every Wednesday, 2000 AD is the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic and remains at the industry’s cutting edge.

The basis of a Game - What makes a game a good game?
So, I dug a bit deep into the world of gaming and tried to figure out what makes a video game a good video game. Today, our tutor mentioned that Games can be divided into 2 types. The first is "Game of Chance" and the latter is "Game of Skill".
Game of Chance and Game of Skill
In the game of Chance, the victory is random. No matter how experienced you are, the luck factor plays the main role in this type of game.  On the other hand, game of skill offers people the opportunity to test their ability in gaming, which is one of its most important advantages.
Examples of skill-based games are chess and carrom. Roulette and lottery can be taken as games of Chance. Some games have a combination of both. Tetris and poker can be taken as examples.
So what exactly makes a game good?
1- Ability to Stand out and the game being Memorable
In the present day, there are thousands of game titles being released within a year and the gaming market has become very competitive, especially in the last few years. As a game developer, you want to feel that the game that you create has become a part of the player that plays it. It should inspire the player or even teach a valuable lesson to the player that will affect positively to his/her life.
2- Interesting theme and visual style
A game should follow a very unique theme and a style throughout the game. The game should establish that visual style and its theme first and then continue the game by sticking to the initial theme they went with. A game should be consistent in its theme and style unless the developer purposely changes the style for creative reasons.
3- A good continuous challenge and reward
A good game designer gives his players continuous challenges. The purpose is to keep them "hooked" on playing the game. At the end of the challenge, after accomplishing it, the player should be rewarded and this reward becomes the key factor of motivation for the player to continue playing the game.
4- A Story behind the Game
This, in my personal view I see as the most crucial aspect of a video game. Players always use video games as a form of entertainment and there should always be a plot driving the game. The lack of a storyline may cause the player to lose interest in a game after a short while after playing it.
Some good story-driven games that I know are,
The Last of Us
Bioshock Series
Red Dead redemption
The Witcher
The story aspect of the Last of Us game is really strong and players really found the game to be an emotional rollercoaster. Players connected to the game in many ways that ultimately made it one of the most successful games in the industry.

5- Good game Mechanics and Controls
the next big thing is what the player can do within the boundaries of a game. Whether it is to hunt down enemies, escape a horror house, solve puzzles, travel through a maze or anything similar, the mechanics should support the narrative and the objective. This is something that I have to figure out since I am a complete stranger to Unreal Engine.
6- Good choice of Music and colours
Imagine the gameplay is just a person traveling through a dimly lit room with gray walls. It would be boring right? But if you add suspense and horror music and noise effects, the player would get goosebumps while playing it. This is because the power of music in a video game.
