IDK if I'm phrasing this correctly, but in my brain, Vasco is, like, the personification (caninification?) of an afternoon chilling on a back porch swing.

#ah #that's adorable #I can totally imagine him doing that #answered #anonymous #Vasco #to me he usually conjures the feeling of being warmed by sunlight #winters in northern Finland where I'm from tend to be pretty rough at least for me they are #they last about six months or so #sun starts to set earlier and earlier until it gets dark before 2 pm #in december the sun barely rises at all it's like this brief moment of twilight at noon between two 22+ hour nights #it gets harder to wake up in the morning and your energy levels plummet you go into battery saving mode #polar night messes up your brain seasonal depression gets really bad #and the cold and dark goes on and on and you feel like you'll never feel warm or happy or properly awake again #but eventually it starts to veer towards spring and on one day you notice that the sun is shining??!?! #not like bleakly and weakly but proper sunlight with warm hue and capability to actually warm the things it touches #you've forgotten what it looks like when it's truly light outside #and it's the craziest feeling to see bright natural light it blinds you and pierces right through into your very core #being kissed by the sun for the first time in months feels unreal it feels SO GOOD #I don't know it's probably not that big of a deal for people around me #but I personally react to things like changes in temperature and the amount of daylight pretty massively #I like to think that Vasco is a first ray of sunlight hitting you after you've spent what feels like an eternity in someplace cold and dark

This morning the world’s white face reminds us that life intends to become serious again. And the same loud birds that all summer long annoyed us with their high attitudes and chatter silently line the gibbet of the fence a little stunned, chastened enough. They look as if they’re waiting for things to grow worse, but are watching the house, as if somewhere in their dim memories they recall something about this abandoned garden that could save them. The neighbor’s dog has also learned to wake without exaggeration. And the neighbor himself has made it to his car with less noise, starting the small engine with a kind of reverence. At the window his wife witnesses this bleak tableau, blinking her eyes, silent. I fill the feeders to the top and cart them to the tree, hurrying back inside to leave the morning to these ridiculous birds, who, reminded, find the rough shelters, bow, and then feed.

i found a book abt the anti lawn movement at the library & decided to sit out in my yard & read it. but ironically there was a neverending barage of power tool noises making it difficult to focus. so i walked to a nature park near me in order to escape the dreaded sounds. almost stopped at the mowed picnic table area bc i hate walking but fortunately pushed forward and made myself walk up an annoying hill to an area that is a preservation of a native oak savanna & sat down against a tree near the edge of the path & did my reading there. and honest to god that was a 100/10 experience. there was something so powerful abt being in a preserve for a locally native habitat while reading abt the impacts homeowners can have on native plant preservation! it powered up my energy towards my life mission (evangelize abt enviormentally sustainable gardening to every single person who comes within a 10 ft radius of me) by like. 15 points. also a deer walked up to me and that was super cool

#i was there for like 3 hours and i wanted to stay longer #but the sun was setting and i was hungry and had to pee super bad #gonna try to do this tommorow as well. bc ik winter is gonna hit soon #and then its not gonna be plausibe #i still heard Industrial Noises up there but i used my noise cancelling headphones #& that blocked most of it out #ive finallt started progressing on writing persuasive essay on this subject #previously id focoused my efforts mostly on reaserching the practical side of like. how to covert ur yard #+ what plants to use. etc #but now im looping background writing abt the actual reasoning behind it #which like. i feel like i needed zero actual persuasion to get on board w this. which is why i didnt #dedicate to much time to reaserching the 'why' #but i do a whole lot of promoting this subject to people i meet so i might as well read up & #try & create a more comprehensive & detailed resource to send to ppl #after i give them my Rip Up Your Lawn talk #i mean i give them the gardening advice resources. but i think some ppl need extra convincing & thats what this is for #LAWN LAWN RIP UP UR LAWN. Apparently the northern lights are gonna get more and more frequent and intense over the next couple of years (they're on an 11-year cycle as far as i understand. something with the sun?)

We don't get them super often as far south as Denmark, so I'm pretty excited about it. Might plan a few winter-night trips to a beach outside the city away from the light pollution or something. I'd love to see it :)

i'm sorry i will just never understand winter enjoyers. so you're telling me you either actively enjoy the sun setting at 4pm and having most of your free time (if you're working and/or in school) be in darkness, or you consider it a minor enough issue that you're willing to overlook it bc you don't like sweating and mosquitoes? and that's not even mentioning the freezing cold and the having to wake up in the dark if you start work or school early... sounds fake but ok

#i KNOW not everyone has seasonal depression but i simply cannot believe someone not being horribly unhappy with 4pm sunsets #it just makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry like i would rather endure sweat and mosquitoes forever #than have to deal with the sun setting any early than 6:30 i'm serious #<- can you tell i'm not coping well with the realization that it will be winter in like six weeks #and with the fact that my class schedule for next semester means i start at 8:30 and end at 5:30 4 days out of 5 #so i would be waking up at 6:30 in the dark #and leaving school at 5:30 in the dark as well #:))))) #soapbox

Anyone else have that advanced sleep phase disorder thing? People always act jealous that I can easily wake up at 4 or 5am but I literally fall asleep so damn early I don't have time for a social life.

Like oh yeah it's so fun wanting to go to bed at 7pm every night and having to fight it every night because once I start doing that my body will start demanding i sleep from 6pm to 3am again. Do you know how irritated I am by this? I'm tired all the time because I can't sleep when my body wants to.
