am i crazy for attempting this? yes.
So in some of the clips there is very obvious whispers heard throughout. And i decided to try to pick up on as many words as i could, but since i have literally never done this before it's not gonna be perfect.
Feel free to try listening yourself since im going to most likely miss things or mishear it
All the whispers are in quotations
Third Clip:
[Chase] Is this some kind of sick joke?
"We can't be here"
"We have to get out of here"
(jumbled. hard to hear)
"No, we have to leave"
"Oh [fuck???]" - the last word echos weirdly, but im assuming it's the word fuck.
[Chase] Oh no
(This part is very jumbled and hard to hear over Chase panicking)
"...hear something..."
"Chase" - said a couple times i think
"This may be...[words after are hard to hear]"
"You can do this" - this whisper stands out a lot because it's...oddly encouraging??
7th clip:
"No we have to leave we can't be here" - first part hard to hear
[Doc to Chase] we need to take you somewhere more secure
"No" - this is right after the doc says that line
(A lot of faint breathing in the whispers rather than words this time)
-cam moves to the red hallway
(the Exile alarms TM)
"...lock you up" - ???
(lil Anti laugh when Chase tries to escape)
"You'll never be..."
"[Don't?] look away" - said when it cuts to black

The 9-Step Video Blueprint that Sells Like Nothing Under the Sun – Part 2

The 9-Step Video Blueprint that Sells Like Nothing Under the Sun – Part 2
This is part 2 of our “The 9-Step Video Blueprint that Sells Like Nothing Under the Sun” article.
The 5th Step is to lead with an interesting anecdote or story. You’ve made your huge promise with a hook and you have actually targeted it to the precise individual you want to engage. Now, prior to you revealing your wonderful info, it’s time to recount a memorable situation.
For example, if you’re promoting a program on how to raise thoughtful and resourceful kids, you can make those traits come alive with your video. Your story could be how terrified you were that you were likely to raise really messed up kids of your own. You can use quotes you found from online forums and chat rooms as well as Amazon customer reviews to help you come up with an impactful story for your targeted customers.
Your anecdote may be something like “I researched and battled and looked for the solutions however everybody simply told me, ‘Hey, do the best you can’. It was a difficult situation due to the fact that I couldn’t seem to get my kid to understand he was driving me completely insane. Yet, after that, I found something that clicked and that’s when my kid’s attitude did a complete 180. Now, I get remarks practically daily on what a confident and terrific parent I’ve evolved into being. Currently, my children pay attention to me and our relationship is out of this world. I intend to share what I have uncovered with you because I know it’ll assist you, as well.”
The 6th step is one of the easiest. This is where you reveal your awesome guarantee that, if they don’t like your suggestions, you will give them a full, money back guarantee, no questions asked. So, you want to tell them that those secrets revealed in the video are just the seeds for a beautiful plant. That plant is fully revealed in the program you’re advertising or offering, or the free report you’re distributing.
See how simple that is? If you’re thinking, “Hey, this is a lot of work,” then let me quash that right now. The whole sausage making process can be done in a couple of hours if you know your market. What you’ll end up with is an outstanding video clip that transforms and motivates your traffic to subscribe, download, or purchase. But, keep charging. We still have more to cover.
Well, we’ve made it to the 7th step. I call this step the “mini reveal”. You want to give them a taste of what your product solves without giving away too much of “the meat”. You have to walk a fine line of giving enough to keep them interested without giving away so much they don’t feel motivated to sign up, download, or purchase.
This part of the process takes some practice. You will be disclosing some information but not too much. You want to get them interested and fired up to know even more but not revealing so much they click away thinking they have all they need to know. You’re developing an appetite in them that can’t be satisfied until they engage your “call to action” and obtain whatever product or service you’re promoting.
Here is what I mean. Your gigantic promise is 4 household spices that significantly increase the burning of fat.
In this scenario, you could reveal the spices; however, you inform them the spices have to be mixed in a special way and at a particular time of day to be really efficient.
Consider if you’re advertising a physical item and your promise is to positively affect their softball performance. You tell them they can promptly do this by simply wearing a special batting glove. Obviously, the next move is to offer to sell them the batting glove so they can begin to reap its benefits.8
The 8th step is one of the most important. We need to show proof that you can deliver the goods. The very best method to use proof is to weave it throughout your presentation whenever possible. “Janice Jones of South Carolina has been a regular softball player for 13 years and was certain this device could not improve her softball performance. Yet ever since the day she placed the Wonder Batting Glove on her hand, her batting average has improved by 39 points. She swears she’ll never play softball without it.” “John Johnson reports he never believed in our product until he utilized just the technique on page 117 to get a date with 3 beautiful ladies in one night.”
The 9th step is finally where the rubber hits the road. Here is where you layout your “call to action” – “Click the link to download your product”, “Enter your name and email to see the full story”, etc. You want to be direct and clear in your “call to action”. But, don’t get too aggressive or you might scare them away from your products.
This “call to action” is such a simple step; yet, I see folks forgetting it all the time. It’s almost a waste of your time creating an enticing video only to forget the call to action. If possible, you want to directly link your “call to action” to the product or service you are promoting. For example, “To realize the same improvement in your batting average as Jim attained, click the ‘Buy’ button below and get your own personalized batting glove.
That’s the process in a nutshell. This is the recipe to make an effective video that converts like nothing under the sun. Naturally, you can include your very own special take on the video, whether it’s your peculiar nature, your character, or whatever it is that makes your videos memorable.
If you stick to this manuscript and follow all of its steps you will be sure to make some money, or get some sign-ups, or attain whatever goal you set for yourself.

@slytherintothedragonsden and @ciara-jane Many many thanks for the topic suggestion! And I have other reports I’ll have to do, so I’m saving the other topics away as well for those! :3
All right, buckle up folks! By popular demand, we're talking about bicycle gears!
This will probably be more information than any average consumer wants or needs to know, but I had to make it report length, so my apologies! But I'll try to be concise, and I'll do my best to keep the maths to a minimum for those of you sensitive to such things. ;)
The term "gear" or “speed” in this particular context refers to a particular arrangement of toothed wheels, disks, or shafts that translates torque generated by either a motor, someone’s pedaling, or a combination of both, into the physical speed of the bike on the path. Put more simply, a “gear” is a particular “translation” of turns of the crank arms to turns of the back wheel.
Tumblr media
So people have more of an idea of precisely what I’m referring to, here on a modern utility/mountain bike chain drivetrain and gear setup:
1. crank arm
2. chainrings
3. front derailleur
4. chain
5. rear sprockets (together also called a cassette, that are attached to the hub of the rear wheel and drive it)
6. rear derailleur
The first bikes only had one “gear” — the pedals and crank arms were affixed directly to the wheel hub. One crank arm revolution equals one wheel turn, one wheel circumference traveled. Incidentally, this is also why penny farthings became a Thing, as ridiculous as they looked and as dangerous as they were — people wanted to get farther with one crank arm revolution, and they were only really limited by the length of their legs and from what height they were willing to risk falling.
Tumblr media
Still, gear-less bikes were less than ideal. Issues getting up a hill? Too bad, get stronk. Want to go faster? Pedal faster, lazybones. :P
For the people with a little more common sense or a healthy fear of heights, the “Safety” bicycle (coming to stores near? you in 1886!) got rid of such stupid things as an enormous front wheel, and sat the rider much closer to the ground. More importantly for the development of our modern bicycle transmission, it sat the rider in between the two wheels and used a chain to transfer torque from the pedals to the rear drive wheel.
(For the less physically gifted… physics-ly gifted? torque is force applied over a distance that makes something turn. However, distinguishing between torque and force is more an issue of pedantry and math-ish nerdery than any real key to understanding.)
In the early days, some people came up with the bright idea of putting two different sized cogs or sprockets on the opposite sides of the wheel. Two gears! Too bad you had to stop, get off, remove the rear wheel to flip it around, secure it again, and then get going again in your new gear. This only really became a Thing in racing, where the difference in speed mattered enough to justify that whole song-and-dance.
How does a different-sized rear sprocket make a difference in speed? I’m so glad you asked! (Warning: maths ahead, but I’ll try to make it painless.)
Y’all remember levers, right? (Excuse the terrible Microsoft Paint drawings I made at 11 at night, please.)
Tumblr media
You can apply less force at the end of a longer “lever” and have the same effect as if you’d applied more force to a shorter lever. Mathematically, the equation is: F1 x l1 = F2 x l2.
(In the diagrams, F1 is the force of gravity pulling the box down, and F2 is the force exerted by the person, l1 the blue length and l2 the red length. They were originally color-coded like most of the bolded stuff but tumblr didn’t feel like working with me there.)
Now let’s take a look at the rear (driving) wheel of a bicycle. (Proportions exaggerated.)
Tumblr media
Y’all see it too, right? Like, uh, either way the torque the chain applies to the sprocket (the blue side of the lever) is on the less advantageous side of the equation (smaller than red), but the larger gear offers a less-bad ratio.
So, why would anyone use a smaller gear? More force actually applied to the wheel on the road is better, right?
Not necessarily. If you’re moving forwards at a good clip, you’re good. If you apply too much force, there’s also the risk of the wheel slipping and losing traction on the road.
Also, I picked the icons I did for a reason. Notice how the larger gear has more teeth? That means it takes a longer length of chain to tug the larger gear around one complete revolution.
What if your chainring has only half as many teeth as your rear sprocket? The teeth are the same distance apart, same chain. That means you have to complete two revolutions of the crank arm to move one rear-wheel-circumference forwards.
There’s an equation for this, too: transmission ratio i = teeth of chainring ÷ teeth of rear sprocket = radius of chainring ÷ radius of rear sprocket = rotations of rear sprocket ÷ rotations of chainring. Any of those three possibilities will get you the same answer.
Tumblr media
Note here that the lever principle applies to the pedal and chainrings as well.
Tumblr media
In this case, a smaller chainring works in our favor, transferring more torque to the chain and thus to the rear wheel, but less speed.
If we put both of these aspects together, we have the combination small chainring + large rear sprocket giving us the maximum transmission of force from pedals to the rear wheel, but not much forwards speed. Conversely, the combination large chainring + small rear sprocket gives us a lot of forwards speed, but not much force — if we hit a hill we’re going to have a hard time.
Tumblr media
Practically speaking: most bikes have two or three chainrings (controlled by the left gear shifter) and between 6 and 10 rear sprockets, though the trend is shifting back to one chainring and many rear sprockets in the super-high-end systems. (Also, with the advent of pedelecs and electric auxiliary motors, most people are now just switching the motor’s boost level instead of shifting chainrings).
To make things more concrete: my bicycle has 8 rear sprockets and 3 chainrings, in bike lingo 3 x 8 gears or speeds. I could say 24-speed, technically, but realistically there’s some overlap in there between different sprocket-chainring combinations, and some combinations I would realistically never use, like small chainring + small rear sprocket, or large chainring + large rear sprocket (not to mention that those kinds of extreme gear combinations can exacerbate chain wear).
On your gear shifters, the thing to remember is: if pedaling is difficult, shift down, to the lower numbers on the left and right displays. The indexing (assigned numbers to cogs) is nicely uncomplicated that way.
I’ve sprung forwards a bit historically, but hopefully that answers the questions of “what even are bike speeds and what do these wizard numbers mean?”
I’ll cut the history and rambling a bit short at this point: in 1930 the predecessor of modern chain-driven gearing systems, the Vittoria Margherita, was invented, and in the 1950s the basic design of modern derailleurs and chain gearing systems popped up, and has stuck around ever since. Shimano did a thing in the 1980s, designing hubs, cassette, pedals, chainrings, front and rear derailleurs, and most components of the drivetrain to specifically work best with the whole set of their parts, which… uh. Like, good that they offer a well-performing, smoothly-designed system, but locking you into buying only their stuff if you want your thing to work right? Not a huge fan. (The corporate side of bikes is. Uh. A whole thing. A whole-ass other ramble.) And now there’s electronic and wirelessly controlled gear shifters, but that’s most of the major developments in gear shifting.
The first widely available transmission system that could be operated without, uhhh, stopping and taking your bike partially apart, was actually an internal gear hub, invented by William Reilly in 1898. It had two (2) different settings. Eventually someone invented the luxury of three-speed hubs!
Internal gear hubs have a different construction, but the principle of the gears are the same: different-sized cogs translate the torque of the chain into more wheel rotations or more applied force to help you get up that damn hill. Nowadays there’s even 14-speed internal hub gears, and an interesting gearbox concept (Pinion is the company) that does the whole translating-through-gears at the bottom bracket and crank arm, entirely between the pedal and chain, instead of between chain and drive wheel.
There’s actually an interesting debate to be had on chain gears versus internal hub gears — they’re both good for different things. Vaguely, internal hub gears are less maintenance-intensive, since most of the mechanism is protected from the elements, but they’re heavier (not the choice of racers). Though you can shift gears at a standstill, you can’t shift if you’re putting much force in the pedals and getting the rear wheel out is a bit more complicated with a hub gear system, if you have a flat. Chain gearing systems are the choice of competitive bikers, generally more efficient at transferring power and offering a broader range of gears.
Hopefully I haven’t offered too much information, or an overwhelming amount. If y’all want clarification on anything, just poke me. :3

EPISODE TWO SUMMARY
Episode Two aired on May 7th, 2021, on MNet.
Episode Two gave us our first big challenge, dividing the trainees into teams and getting them to learn nine songs-- which songs they would be performing, however, wasn’t up to them. The goal of episode two was to see the trainees bonding, tensions rising, and to show how the trainees acting under significant pressure, seeing as this turned out to be the biggest challenge in the history of all three seasons. But little did they know, so much more was about to happen.
The episode started with the trainees waking up in the dorm. Shots were shown of various trainees getting ready, be it alone or in groups. Then producers lead them to the main stage, so they can be given their next challenge. Before that happens, however, each grade group votes for their team leader, with the results being Hwa as A grade leader, Ilhoon as B grade leader, Hope as C grade leader, and Minah as D grade leader.
When the challenge is announced, most trainees meet the description with a look of confusion– to help the viewers understand, MNet provides step-by-step graphics on how the episode play out. And then the teams are made. They are all are assigned a laptop with the songs, lyrics and choreography loaded and a room to practice in for the week, with many trainees noting in their confessionals that they had been given these songs to practice before the show started-- some of them revealing that they perfected the songs, and others revealing that they hadn’t practiced at all.
All the groups watch the nine performances together in their respective rooms, with competitors ranging from excited to focused to scared. The trainees from Liberty, in particular, seem especially stressed about learning so much choreography so quickly.
In Team One, Hyunjoo takes the reins as the natural leader of the group. Not only did he compete on the previous season, where they had a challenge much like this one, but he and Eunyeol are the only trainees in this group that aren’t foreigners, and Eunyeol is a Liberty trainee. Despite how Hyunjoo typically comes off, he is a very helpful and patient leader to his teammates, going the extra mile to re-coordinate choreography formations so everyone gets a part that they know somewhat well.
Team Two is definitely a little more split-- While Ilhoon, Minsuk and Inho all are familiar with working with each other, it leaves the other two trainees feeling a little left out. Ilhoon does his best to keep everyone included, but when the choreography is being put together, it’s clear that there’s a disconnect between the Higher trainees, and the other two.
Team Three skews particularly young, with Haebi, Kahoru and Shiyin all being underage and fairly new to being a trainee. With Hwa being primarily a vocal trainee, a lot of the pressure falls on Hope to lead, which adds added difficulty with the language barrier. All five members of this team seem very eager to do well, and after some big bumps in the road, they manage to figure out how to communicate efficiently.
Team Four is very split from the beginning. It’s clear that Mirae wants to take control, and in confessionals, Minah and Yoora both agree that Mirae is the most qualified, as she is the highest rank, however Taeri seems to fight her for control, causing Mirae to snap and tell her off. Tension are very high for the entire time they are rehearsing.
And then the show comes screeching to a halt. Many confessionals are shown of the trainees explaining what happened and why production shut down, as well as how they coped with it. And, whether or not they thought the show would return at all. The trainees get back to work, though, and it’s easy to see which trainees kept practicing during the break, and which ones gave up and are rusty. Finally, however, shots are shown of the audience filling into the building for performance day, and Adonis (as host) taking the stage.
The teams are all brought onstage. The host spins a wheel, and it picks Team One to go first. It is spun again, and Team Six is set to go against them. All teams are sent back to the dressing room to get ready for their respective first stages, and the host reveals that Juliette’s Lion Heart is first on the docket.
Team One performs first, and their hard work is apparent. Hyunjoo did a great job making sure any wobbly parts are hidden. This team has the vocals to pull this song off, too-- despite Hyunjoo’s voice being a little too deep and standing out a lot, this team does very well. Some of them fall into the trap of making feminine choreography a bit of a joke, but most of them try their best. Team Six does a fairly good job as well, however their vocals aren’t strong enough to do the song justice.
Teams Two and Three are picked to go next, with Team Two out to perform first-- their song being Merci’s Lady. Inho in particular really stands out; despite being the youngest competitor, he has a lot of confidence and charisma, and does Jiae’s part well. Team Two has the right attitude for the song, however they don’t have the vocal power-- the whistle note in particular being hard for their vocalists.
Team Three had the opposite issue-- with none of them being rappers, and most of them having language barriers, the rap parts left a lot to be desired. However Hope did a very good job carrying the chorus, with Yihwa proving once again that she is one of the strongest vocalists in the competition.
Team Four and Five are the last to perform, with their first song being Pirate King. Team Four has some trouble with choreography, with many of them noticeably lagging behind Mirae, who for her part, did the song very well. Team Four’s inexperience and lack of synergy overall brought the song down. Team Five wasn’t memorable, but they put in a solid effort.
None of the winners of the matchups are shown– MNet keeps that footage until the end of the episode, to build suspense. While in real time, the trainees got to watch their stages after the first day, it is edited so that all nine matchups are first, trainee reactions are second, and the rank and matchup winners are last.
The editors continue as if it were the same day, and Team Four and Team One await onstage as their song is picked– Love Me Right. The production team has a fun time squaring up trainees against each other, with Mirae and Hyunjoo competing, as well as Eli and Mint. Team Four performs first, and while the choreography still seems a little out of some of their leagues, they have an easier time with this one than on day one. Thet has some trouble carrying the song, however Mirae nails the vibe of Love Me Right and gives an engaging performance. Team One does equally well, with the hosts calling this one one of the most even matchups yet. Hyunjoo, like Mirae, seems to fit the song very well, and his extra work with the formations shines through once more-- while the choreo is clunky, it’s disguised.
Team Two and Team Six both perform Venus’ Breakthrough. Adonis comments that this is one of the least well-known songs on the docket for this week, which could prove to be difficult, seeing as the other songs might be ones trainees practiced at their companies for evals.
Team Two goes first. While they do a very good job and their choreography in particular is top notch, Eda critiques Inho specifically, telling him that while he is a very good rapper, he went too hard for this song, and that beign a good rapper also includes tone and knowing when to go hard and when to be softer to suit the music. In a closed-door meeting between the judges, She comments on how she personally thinks a bit of unintentional misogyny is at play, with Inho not wanting to sound too feminine, or thinking this style of rap isn’t good (though she clarifies that she’s just speculating). Team Six is full of Venus fans, and while they do a good job, they get a little to excited, and their stage is a little sloppy
Team Three and Team Five compete with Empire’s Bang Bang Bang. In a confessional, Hope says that this was the song she wanted to do the least, since Kyuyeol and DK were both judges, and would be nitpicking people doing their own song. Team Three notably shifts the line distribution around, splitting both Prince and DK’s parts so that Yihwa gets the power notes and Hope gets the lower difficulty ones, and it works to their favor, with this team performing a near perfect stage. Team Five does well, but they had a particularly hard act they had to follow.
As for day three, the performances start with Team Two and Team Four performing I Am The Best by Reign. This is Team Four’s best stage, with Yuan commenting that it’s likely because of the less difficult choreography. Kyuyeol states that they had the right sort of confidence for this stage, and for this song in particular, that was what was most important. As for Team Two, the boys from Higher do well, but the other two lag behind. Adonis comments that since they are from Higher, they’ve likely had to perform this song before, and that it showed-- their performance came out a little hollow.
Team Five and Six go head to head with Inferno’s Devil next. Both performances are mediocre at best.
Finally, to finish off the performances, Team One and Team Three perform Haze’s Electric Shock. This is Team One’s best performance-- it’s the easiest choreography they’ve had to do yet, and while Hyunjoo’s voice is a touch too deep for the song, they all seem to be having a lot of fun. It’s a tight race, though-- Team Three has the same amount of fire and bubbliness to their performance, with DK mentioning that this one is going to be a photo finish.
MNet plays the shots of the trainees watching their own performances back, and then more random clips are thrown in too. The trainees are gathered in the Main Stage area with the coaches and the host, to see who won each match up. The votes for each trainee are to appear on the screen one by one, and then at the end, the overall tallies, to indicate who won.
For Lion Heart, Eli got the most votes, with Team One winning the match. For Lady, Hwa gets the most votes, however Team Two brings home the win. For Pirate King, Mirae gets the most votes as well as the win for Team Four. For Love Me Right, Mirae gets the most votes once more, but Team One wins. For Breakthrough, Minsuk gets the most votes and Team Two bags another win. For Bang Bang Bang, Hope gets the most votes and the win for Team Three For I Am the Best, Mirae once again is voted the highest, and Team Four wins. For Devil, Xueying gets the most votes, and Team Five gets their first W For Electric Shock, Hyunjoo gets the most votes, however Team Three wins.
The ranking is then revealed to the trainees and the audience, and the episode ends.

A Year of Bittersweet Capstone
This school year has been extra challenging for us. Not just because it is our last year in high school but because of our capstone subject. Every time I hear that word, it seems very daunting and bothering at some point. Knowing that I have a few knowledge about wirings and how it works, I have already prepared myself on the amount of stress capstone may bring. As I am writing this personal blog, it amazes me on how I can look back at some of the hardest part of this school year and how I can finally say 'Salamat God kay tapos na'. My biggest achievement is finally relating to Aristotle's 'The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.' This is truly hard yet rewarding task for all of us. I am very glad we are able to make our project as we have envisioned it to be.
Tumblr media
Imagine if we were given the whole school year just to work on this project without other tasks, it would be the ultimate dream. Flying agricultural drones and robots equipped with artificial intelligence? If only we were given enough time for it, it would not be impossible. Of course, in reality, there are a lot more to do and accomplish in school. We had to juggle our time between doing school works for the whole day and going to a group activity for this project after school.
To be honest, I think our school is not ready for this subject and so are the students. The school is introducing robotics in the subject but there are only few teachers who are knowledgeable on programming. We cannot just solely rely on those Indian people on YouTube to teach us all of these things. Programming is new to us, especially we haven't had any computer-related subjects. We only had ICT subject when we were in 7th grade and nothing else. I also know some students in previous school years having the same subject who had the same struggle. However, since this is part of the new curriculum of K to 12, we cannot do anything but to bear with it. Also, as a student, we also wanted to do our best for the project but we lack support. It is ironic that the school is not even initiating a seminar or a workshop for programming but is having a subject for robotics. This is our struggle. I would not be shocked if other students would encounter this problem too in the next coming years. Unless the school would really take it seriously in coming up with ways on how to make students be ready and equipped for this subject and the so-called 'Industry 4.0', everything would be fine.
Tumblr media
I salute all those programmers in YouTube who are very willing to share their innovative ideas to their subscribers. This allowed us to at least have an overview on how to properly connect and wire all the sensors. Following the instructions in YouTube was somewhat easy but programming was the hardest part since some were not willing to share their codes for the Arduino. Although they also film their codes but sometimes it is just 2 seconds of the whole instructional video. It's funny how we were so desperate to know the code that we had to screenshot some clips of the video and zoom in just to get an idea of it. We were totally clueless at the start of the year.
During our second semester, we were thankful that we had the subject Empowerment Technology. This subject was not a burden to us like how other subjects would feel like. It even made things easier for us by guiding us what to do in our projects. Calling it a blessing in disguise? I'd say yes. Our subject teacher, Sir Rae John Arango, was very willing to help us finish our project. He even set a target date for the project. I can clearly remember when he said 'Dapat before kayo magbakasyon tapos na 'yang mga projects niyo para pag Christmas wala nang problema'. Who would not want to enjoy the holidays, right? But of course, knowing that we are procrastinators, we did not meet that target date. Sir Arango still helped us program our projects despite being busy with his Continuous Improvement Project. Even if there were 11 groups for Capstone, he managed to help us all. I truly admire how he was very passionate in helping us one group at a time. To be honest, our capstone subject was only making us knowledgeable on the proper ways in conducting the research but not on how to do the actual project itself, on how to program and build the actual robot. I bet we are all very grateful that the Empowerment Technology subject are able to do this.  Doing the project was somehow a lot easier for us by since our teacher was guided us on what we need to download, search for and other sensors to buy. Sir Arango is an angel sent from heaven to us struggling students or what I prefer to call 'frustrated programmers'. We owe the success of our projects to you Sir. (Sir Arango, if by any chance you are reading this, beke nemen)
Tumblr media
We were on our track, fully confident that we are going to be able to at least start programming our project, AgriCop. When we thought everything is going in our favor, Typhoon Tisoy came. There was a blackout in our whole province. When we thought things couldn't get any worse, we were all wrong. There was no signal for us to communicate with other groupmates and to even just search in YouTube for the project. The scariest part of it is that I even had to charge our laptop using the generator while knowing the risks of the fluctuating current. I just needed to start doing the codes but then there was no internet to search for reference. We ended up doing nothing for the whole month of December. A month away from Capstone and a month before cramming and stress because of it.
Working in a group of five made it a lot easier. Although other groups have more members in their team, I mostly prefer to work in small groups. We are the only group with all girls which made it quite difficult since when need to immerse ourselves in mechanical and electronics. We are quite good in making arts and crafts, designing things, doing calligraphies and other artworks. However, this is the complete opposite of what we are used of doing. We had to let go of the paint brushes, scissors and color palettes. Instead, we learned how to properly handle screwdrivers, how to use a grinder and most especially how to solder. It was an intimidating task for all of us but we were open to learning new things. I am also grateful to my brother who taught us how to do all of these things. We did not know what tools to use but he was there to let us borrow all of the things that we needed for the project which allowed us to save a lot of money instead of buying new tools. I am so proud of what we have learned and achieved.
Tumblr media
We were already warned by our teacher at the start of the school year that this capstone project would really be worth a lot of money. We had to save money from what my parents give as our allowance in school because sometimes it is quite embarrassing to ask extra money from my parents for this. Also, we had to buy the most basic parts first since our group did not have enough money to buy all things at once. Capstone even tested our negotiating skills since we have figured out that some of the things we have ordered were not useful for the mechatronic system of AgriCop. So, we had to sell it to other groups who needed extra relay drivers and arduino board. We were also lucky since one of our groupmates have vouchers and her shipping fee for her orders is always 50 pesos only. We also had to wait for Shopee's promo such as during 11.11 and 12.12 Christmas sale for us to get discounts. We also asked for scrap materials like aluminum tubes to reduce our expenses. Overall, we spent about 6 thousand for this robot. For me, that is already a large amount of money since it is like the salary of a normal government employee for a month of work. I am very thankful that our parents were very supportive and would understand us if sometimes we go home late just for this project. Seeing how the AgriCop works and operates is worth the amount of money that we have invested for it.
Tumblr media
Last week has been the most tiring week in my entire existence. It was the very first time that I have experienced studying the whole day in school, going straight to our classmate's house, eating at around 8:30 or 9:00 in the evening, losing track of time, staying awake until 4 o' clock in the morning and going to school at 7:30 AM. We have gone through this cycle every day last week. It was physically and mentally draining. We also had different summative tests and projects to pass aside from the AgriCop. We did not even have the time to review or even do requirements in other subjects. Staying up late was the most challenging part of it. My father would always remind us to get enough hours of sleep but at that time we just cannot. We were deprived of sleep. The schedule of final defense was moved a week earlier than the planned date. Every single day we were required to pass different outputs in capstone. At that time there was no room for 8 hours of sleep but more space for eye bags and eye strain. We already divided the tasks for each of us. I was assigned to work on the write-up. There was this one time that I can't really handle my sleepiness anymore that I took a nap for an hour not minding how many mosquitoes were already buzzing in my ears and biting my arm. Four o' clock in the morning is our usual 'dismissal' in the group activity. We are so blessed that the father of one of our groupmates would drive each us to our houses even if it is already early in the morning. My father also does the same thing when we decided to do group activity for the last few days in our house. We are very grateful and blessed.
Tumblr media
We have invested so much in this project, our effort, money, sleep and sacrificing time for other subjects. At some point, we felt like we were the underdog out of all the groups but I am glad that each of us did not let go of that little hope that we can pull this through. We were all tired. I saw it in the eyes of my classmates and even in my own groupmates' as we go to school in the morning after probably not getting enough rest at all. I heard their voices saying 'Di ko na aram ang uunahon', 'Papano na ini', 'Di pa ngani ako nangarigo nan nagmahaw'. We were all going through the toughest part of our life as graduating students. I always believe that the only way to overcome a situation is not to run away from it but to get through it with high hope. I am very thankful that I have groupmates who would always lift each other up and still laugh at the dumbest things that we would do at 2 AM. The perfect term to describe all of us is 'sabaw'.
Tumblr media
We were nervous and at the same time excited during the poster presentation of our project. This was the time that we did not have any practice of our script. We just had the time to read the lines once and then the first judge already stood in front of us. We were glad that they get to appreciate our projects and made suggestions for the design of AgriCop. There was this one science teacher which was part of the judges who made me teary-eyed. Not because I was scared or intimated but because she understands what we have gone through and she was really listening and paying attention to every detail that we are saying. She told us that she really appreciates the Mechatronic System of AgriCop that is not complicated compared to other groups. She also mentioned about how it could help farmers to easily replicate our study using mechatronics. She appreciates how we put into consideration the situation of the farmers and the knowledge that they have when it comes to programming. In every word that she mentioned, I could sincerely feel her genuine appreciation to our project and how we, girls, are able to come up with AgriCop. Finally, there was at least this one teacher who can relate to all of our struggles and how hard research is. She understands our situation and acknowledges all the efforts that we have put in this project. We needed that extra boost of support at those moments. I would forever cherish all the kind words that she said to us.
Tumblr media
The day of the final defense came. At this same day, we were also preparing for the awards in school so it made it extra hassle for us. We were practicing the script at around 10 AM and also writing down all the possible questions of the panel. I remember how nervous we were entering the STEM B room to present our project. We weren't able to finish our presentation since we exceeded the time limit and the panel already told us to show the remaining slides. The teachers were very kind to us which is the complete opposite of what we were expecting. I guess they already knew the amount of effort, money and sleepless nights we have invested for this. They commended and congratulated us for the project. They also mentioned that they witnessed how our research studies have evolved from simple studies in junior high to a research product with quality. We feel blessed that the AgriCop functioned properly and cooperated well with us. Leaving that room made us all sigh in relief. Finally, our capstone project is done. After a whole school year of working on it, it is already finished. I remember how we were all jumping around outside the room saying 'Tapos na!'. We also had a mini celebration and ate sotanghon and puto which was the food left for the panels. I can still feel that relief we all felt at that moment. A truly rewarding moment.
Tumblr media
Capstone has been a very tough subject for all of us. We weren't prepared for it, especially in programming but we are thankful that our Empowerment Technology teacher guided us all the way. Being in a group of all girls did not became our weakness, instead Capstone allowed us to work even harder and build stronger friendship.  I will leave all of the stress, rants, negative emotions, will and hopes that I have had doing this project here in my blog. As I venture more on robotics in  college or in my future job, I'll look  back at this and remember how we all started. I'd remind myself of a struggling student without any idea of robotics but manages to overcome it and finish strong.

The Intern pt. VIII
Tumblr media
Pairing: Reader x CEO!Tom Holland
Summary: You’re finishing your last year of university in London, and what better way do to that than with an internship at Holland and Osterfield’s?
Warnings: Brief mention of death, I guess?
A/N: I realized that I fricked up the dates, so this will December 7th and not December 24th like mentioned previously. I honestly forgot about Christmas. Oops. I also want to clarify that I adore Paddy and Tom’s parents, but this is just how the story ended up going so... Please, don’t hate me ☺︎

ONCE FRIDAY ROLLS AROUND, you’re barely able to contain your nerves. Cecelia had already gone off to work when you woke up, taking the morning shift so she could join you at the gala. Tom giving you a day off had helped tremendously; you had been able to get ahead on your homework with at least a week and you had gotten some much-needed rest. On Monday night, after trying on the gowns, Cecelia had practically forced you into bed at 9:00pm, seeing the redness in your eyes. You had happily obliged and sleep came easy that night.
Throwing the covers off your body, you slide toward the edge of your bed, stretching your joints. Glancing at your phone after clicking the home button, you sigh, realizing it’s only barely eight in the morning. That means you have almost eleven hours until Tom’s driver comes to pick you up. What could you possibly do to keep yourself preoccupied until then?
The answer? Anything and everything you could think of. Once the bathroom, kitchen and living room was vacuumed, dusted and mopped, you moved on to organizing your closet. After going through all of your clothes and filling a whole trash bag with unwanted clothes for donation, you walk back into the living room. You purse your lips, trying to think of something to do. An unpleasant sound coming from your stomach quickly makes the decision for you, and you head toward the kitchen.
Once your beans and toast had been consumed, the time seemed to move too fast. An hour later, Cecelia had come home and the two of you shared some nachos as you took turns doing each other’s hair. You decided on something simple, not liking a lot of attention, and your friend had loosely curled your hair, pinning the front strands of your hair back with a beautiful hair clip. You had attempted your best at the braided updo Cecelia had requested. It came out mediocre at best, but your friend had looked impressed nonetheless.
“Y/N, love, the ride’s here,” Cecelia coaxes you out of your nervous trance and as her words sink in, you’re about to slip right back into it. She shakes her head, grabbing your hand to pull you up from the couch. “C’mon.”
You watch as she locks the front door, grabbing the skirt of your dress in your hands so you can walk down the stairs. You can’t pinpoint the exact cause of your nervousness. Being Tom’s date, Cecelia meeting Tom again, mingling with the high-status people of London - they all play their part, you assume. For some strange reason, you also feel anxious about the gala going as planned. After all, you had been planning this event alongside Tom and Harrison for a long time. You realize you’ve been moving automatically when the cold air hits you and you find yourself outside.
Cecelia links her arm with yours, the two of you very careful with your dresses. Neither of you knew the exact price tag, but you both agreed they were more expensive than anything you guys could afford. The driver is already waiting outside of the car, open the door and helping you both inside when you’re close enough. The ride is mostly filled with Cecelia’s eager chatter. You remain quiet for the most part, your unexplainable nerves getting the best of you. Your best friend seems to understand and leaves you alone, much to your relief. You’re able to calm your increased heartbeat with numerous pep-talks, but once the car comes to a halt, your heartbeat quickens once again.
The door on Cecelia’s side is opened and she shoots you a quick smile before letting the driver help her out. Inhaling deeply, you reach for your own door handle. The door is slung open before you can even touch the handle, and a pair of gentle eyes meet yours. You smile timidly at the older man and the stranger holds his hand out and you find yourself grabbing it almost automatically. God knows you need help getting out of the car. With your free hand, you gather most of the satin skirt to keep it from brushing against the car.
You and Cecelia follow the crowd, making your way up the stairs leading into the children’s museum. Now that you knew the reason behind the event, the location made a lot more sense and it had proven to you, once again, that Tom isn’t your regular, heartless player. You clutch your shawl tighter, desperately praying for the guests in front of you to hurry up before you catch a cold. Eventually, they move along and you’re able to step inside. You welcome the warmth, forcing yourself to loosen your grip on the fabric covering your bare shoulders. Your eyes wander around, recognizing a few decorations from one of the meetings, before resting on a familiar face.
The first thing you notice about Tom is his hair. It’s styled, almost too perfectly, combed over to the right. He looks great; professional, yet handsome enough for you not to be able to take your eyes off. He smirks as you and Cecelia step toward them. You smile, greeting your two bosses by their first names. Cecelia and Harrison exchange a greeting, having met each other once before.
“I knew you would look good in blue,” Tom states almost arrogantly.
“What Tom means to say, Y/N, is that you look beautiful. You both do,” Harrison looks between the two of you as you flush, not noticing how Tom’s smile hardens. “You two head inside and grab yourselves a drink, look for your assigned seats. We’ll be in as soon as we’re done greeting everyone.”
Finding your seats had been easier said than done. Eventually, Cecelia suggested the idea that maybe, just maybe, you’re supposed to sit with Tom. You had quickly thrown the idea away but a few minutes later, you find your name written on the seat next to Tom’s. Cecelia had smirked, deciding to keep her comment to herself. Tom, Harrison, and Harrison’s mother had joined you not too long after you sit down and the conversation flows easily from there. Harrison’s mother excused herself a few moments later, making her way to the stage to officially welcome all of the guests.
You pick at your dessert silently, too full to even taste it. The three-course meal was more food than you could handle and you had barely been able to finish your dinner. No one brought up the topic of the two empty chairs labeled Sam and Harry and although the curiosity was killing you, you had a hunch the topic was sensitive. A hand rests on top of yours and you turn your attention to Tom, pausing your mindless prodding. He just raises his eyebrows and you instantly know he had watched you pick at the untouched plate of Banoffee pie.
“Let’s dance,” Tom doesn’t ask and before you can politely decline, he’s on his feet and holding his arm out for you. Cecelia silently urges you to take him up on his offer and with a sigh, you place your fork down and scoot your chair back.
Luckily, other couples have made their way to the dancefloor already. Realizing that not everyone will be focused on you, you relax slightly as Tom leads you into the small, moving crowd. He comes to a stop and places one hand on the dip of your hip, his other hand grabbing yours. If he notices the clamminess of your skin, he doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t mention your slight shaking either, and you can’t quite decide if that’s positive or negative.
“This would’ve been a lot easier if you didn’t get such a big dress, you know,” you mutter. “I really can’t dance.”
“Relax, darling,” Tom instructs softly, gently pulling you closer to him. Your body reacts immediately and you pray he doesn’t notice your flushed cheeks. “We’ll just sway.”
And you do. The two of you begin swaying slowly from side to side and you quickly forget about everyone else in the room, focusing on Tom’s grip on your waist. A part of you knows that this is wrong - it should be wrong. Tom is your boss, not even your real boss, just overseeing a stupid, required internship for your degree. You shouldn’t be this infatuated with him. Not only is it wrong, but nothing would ever happen between the two of you and you would just be setting yourself up for heartbreak. Closing your eyes briefly, you push the thoughts away, wanting to enjoy this moment - or, whatever it is -  with Tom.
The picture of Tom’s freckled, younger brother pops into your mind. You remember suddenly what this gala is for and how difficult this day must be for Tom. You can’t fully comprehend or understand how he feels, and frankly, you’re grateful for that. Just the thought of not being able to see your parents or sister again is extremely painful. The song changes, the tempo still the same, and you keep swaying clumsily. Rubbing your lips together to spread the nude lipgloss, you look up at Tom.
“I’m sorry,” you offer gently and his questioning eyes meet yours. “About Paddy. About your mom and dad. I’m really sorry for your loss, Tom.”
His face hardens at the mention of his younger brother’s name and you instantly wish you can take the words back. The pain in his eyes is enough to make your own eyes water. Slowly, his hand falls from your hip and you immediately miss the warmth from his touch. He untangles his hand from yours shortly after, taking a step back. You feel the urge to close the distance, to touch him, to do something but you know you can’t. Licking his lips, Tom mumbles out an excuse and strides out of your view, blurring into the sea of people. You gather the skirt of your dress in your hands, willing the unshed tears away before you reach the table.
You sit down quietly, ignoring Cecelia’s worried look. Having a best friend that could read you easier than the instructions on the Mac n’ Cheese box could both be a good and a bad thing. Harrison looks behind you, more than likely expecting his best mate to follow. When he doesn’t, Harrison looks at you. You mouth out Paddy’s name, not wanting to bring it up again. The blue-eyed man winces slightly before pressing a quick kiss to his mother’s cheek and excusing himself from the table. Cecelia easily falls into a conversation with Harrison’s mother and you listen half-heartedly, wondering if you had ruined your relationship with Tom.

Thanks to you, I understood nct songs, but some theories based on mvs or objects, but the basic story like how ended up in the dream? How they enter the dream? Did anyone oblige them or the accept to do so? How dream lab created and who created? Who behind all this? Did they know they were in a trap? And what they are trying to do? Like are they trying to wake up or to build thier dream world, what's the relation between thier lore and smcu? I'm confused.... Sorry so many questions
WHoa there, let me just tell you what I know... I'm sure every theoryzens have their own theories of the base story but this is mine.
I used a lot of ‘possibly’ in here... this is a theory after all...
Starting from SMCU as a whole, from what I know is that each artists have their own universe and story. There isn't really a particular connection of how each artists are connected with their stories, I'm blaming SM for being vague for that (as always), but the artists definitely have their own stuff deal with.
Although the reason is still a mystery, The Neos were trapped in the Dream world in the beginning. Whether its all of them, or just most of them were trapped is still unknown to me. They didn’t know where they were in and there were numerous times in the lyrics where they say that everyday is repetitive. The dream world is repetitive because they only stayed in the same dream stage. The lyrics of The 7th Sense show hints of them wanting to leave the Dream world. To 127, the dream world is suffocating and cruel; they became depressed at one point and questions their future whether they will get out or not (Limitless lyrics). Meanwhile, since they are still young, the Dream unit thinks the dream world is more like a utopia; they were having fun (We Young).
In NCT2018, I have a theory that this is where they learned about Dream and Reality. In Dream world, everything is possible and limitless, while the Reality is the opposite. There is a possibility that the Reality was destroyed but not completely. The Reality became like a ghost town; empty and hollow, this is mostly hinted in some WayV MVs (meteorites falling, hollow city with V logo). I am holding on this theory because we have a Dream and Reality ver. of the album for this project. In this era too, they learned that in the Dream world they can make dreams come true by following the 5 Dream stages/phases. To make dreams come true, they must synchronize as a big group, go through Dream in a Dream stage (deeper dream), and eventually entered the Reality after Dreaming. The only way to reach Dream in a Dream is by synchronizing as a group. This became their real objective; which is why they created the Dream Lab. To make their dreams come true. They also learned about Ether that connects them, (to help them synchronize) which is why you can see many fluids in NCTmentaries. They weren’t successful in reaching DiaD stage at that time possibly because not enough members? Or not enough bond?
I also think that they have at least entered the Reality once. Looking at Boss, they are in an open space (unlike their usual studio MVs). The city is hollow and empty, could it be Reality? That is just my speculation. OR the Dream they are having is very much similar to Reality (this thought came to me on the spot maybe some dreams may seem too close to reality...)
WayV’s story is tricky and a bit difficult to understand for me. I remember there were some clips of Yangyang somehow confirming what happens in their story but I still couldn’t connect it because he never mentioned anything about the Dream world. They could be around Reality (Take Off and Moonwalk MVs; some scenes shot in the outdoors) and went into the Dream world. Or like what I mentioned, their dreams could possibly resemble the Reality a lot. But again, I have difficulty understanding it. I could only understand their story after NCT2020.
For NCT2020 and 2021, just read this post:
📡 United: Conclusion to NCT2021 and NCT2020
In conclusion after 2020 and 2021, they presumably have entered the Reality after Dreaming stage and are probably looking forward for the next Dream in a Dream as an even bigger group. And from what I can tell with what we have so far (GliMo), the Neos are possibly looking for ways to make their dreams come true in an easier and faster process by manipulating the dream using technology (using coding, video games, etc.).
Btw, I’m glad my blog made it easier for you to understand the lore :D hope you enjoy your stay here💜💚

Task 1: Part A & Part B
A) Choose two articles:
https://news.sky.com/story/harry-and-meghans-interview-how-much-damage-have-the-couples-claims-done-to-the-royal-family-12243949
https://news.sky.com/story/how-likely-is-it-for-women-to-be-killed-in-a-public-place-12242870
B1) Sky News
Narrative Construction
The narrative construction starts with the headline claiming ‘How much damage have the couple’s claims done to the Royal Family” and then as a sub-headline mentions that a palace insider states “that the hype is often bigger than the event but they had no idea what was coming’.
It starts with a statement that she got from a source of the senior palace. That the “circus” has been running for nearly three weeks.
Starting off with the lead [Explaining the Who, the What, the When, the Where, the Why and How]
The article talks about the recent interview with Oprah Winfrey that happened on the 7th of March, 2021. It includes the conflict between the Sussexes and the Royals, on what it has done to the Royal Family. It explains the interview in further depth with hyperlinks “The Interview” “Harry” (all news) and “Meghan” (all news). Speaking about Meghan describing having suicidal thoughts and mentioning of a racist comment that was spoken in the interview regarding the colour of unborn baby Archie’s (child of Harry and Meghan) skin.
Another quote from a palace insider stating that “The hype is often bigger than the event” and it would take something extreme for the rest of the Royal Family to comment. Which that was the case, they were exposed to as “uncaring, unsupportive, and even racist”. Then keeps on explaining how the interview affected the royals.
A quote from the Royal Family is mentioned that “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst same recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately” – The Royal Family.
Continuing with the body (the crucial information) - which continues to discuss the racist comment which also includes another hyper-link that prince William was “quick to shoot down those claims”. Then she continues to talk about, how the racist comment affected the royals and a quote from another source that has supported the royals and their charity work for many years has added: “They told me the claims hit them very hard……”
They continue to talk about the Royal Family’s role in promoting equality, diversity and mental health.
Now discussing Harry and Meghan’s life and how “most of us couldn’t start to imagine what it was like for Harry and Meghan living that life (the privilege, nor the spotlight)”. The article also includes other sources like Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter Ndileka Mandela talking about her encounters with Meghan and Harry in Africa (2019).
Later the article talks about how Meghan and Harry were aware of before getting married and wrote; which leads to the question ‘whether Meghan really was so naive and vulnerable’.
The article then discusses the revelations that just kept coming when Harry and Meghan spoke to Oprah Winfrey. Another quote from one palace insider: ’The war has stopped so it’s probably best to stop bombing’. Information from former member of staff said ‘that it is sometimes impossible not to get dragged into misunderstandings between different family members and their offices.
A quote was then added from Omid Scobie (author of Finding Freedom) “What they do want is the opportunity to control the narrative around their own lives and, given we’ve spent the past three or four years talking about them, I think it’s fair to let them have a couple of hours”. Talking about what the Sussexes want.
Then the article mentions that “the couple were careful not to criticise the queen but inevitably Harry has put his grandmother in a very difficult position” (Mills, 2021). We get information from another source this time it is Adwoa Aboah (model and activist) who worked with the royals on their mental health campaign and she explains that “the way Americans and English people present themselves is very different. The way they emote.” (Aboah, 2021).
Ending the body - with information if Meghan and Harry want a totally private life or more control over their public life.
The Tail – Update on their life and a quote from John Hornby (chairman of Sentebale, the aids/HIV charity which was set up by Prince Harry in Lesotho, Africa)
“The reality is they are probably still one of the most famous couples in the world.”
"So I don't think leaving the UK or the UK media is going to change that.
"The world's media are fascinated by this couple and so is the world of social media, so you can never really walk away from these things.
"But I would say that he feels he has taken a step back."
Mr Hornby added: "I think that's actually when you see Harry at his happiest - when he is, for example, in a country like Lesotho, when he's working with a charity where most of the people aren't thinking about him in his role as a prince but more as somebody who is rolling their sleeves up and getting involved in the projects we're doing."
Treatment
o   I think this was first going to be treated as an informative or entertainment (because of their prominence also) news; but as the interview came out, and when comments about racism and inequality were raised, this story become hard news. Which was spread quickly.
o   Sky News have minimal bias and hardly make use of loaded words (wording that tries to influence the audience by emotionally blackmailing or stereotypes). Their reporting is accurate and normally sourced.
o   The article was supportive on both the Royal Family and the Sussexes.
o   From researching on Sky News, I doubt that they would have a hidden agenda because there is no biased involved. It is simply an article talking about the impact of the interview of Prince Harry and Meghan with Oprah Winfrey.
o   The footage came from Sky News, they also had their own interviews with sources.
Quality and depth of subject matter
Since the outcome of this interview is important and troublesome for the UK, I think it has been dealt with in a professional and informative matter.
The quality was excellent we got clips from the interview, various sources which shows evidence, lots of hyper-links to fully understand the story too. The subject matter was done properly with the right tone due to neither upset the Royal Family nor the Sussexes.
Sky News is very reliable when it comes to their authenticity, they conduct their own personal interviews and research.
The role of the presenter/interviewer
The role of the presenter in this story is Rhiannon Mills who is doing the voice-over in this interview and explaining the issue. I can tell that when she is talking about both the Royals and the Sussexes her voice is completely monotonous, which shows that she is not siding with anyone.
Rhiannon Mills works for Sky News as a royal correspondent and delivers exclusive stories and breaking news on all the members of the Royal Family. Her interviews are known worldwide, with interviews with both Prince Harry and Prince William. “Rhiannon has travelled widely with the royals, covering tours to Japan, Africa, Nepal, India, Bhutan, Pakistan, the Middle East, New Zealand and Australia among other” (Sky News, n.d.)
The interviewee as a character in the story
The main interviewee: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and The Royals
In this story it shows what Meghan and Harry have gone through, good and bad. In this story some people agree with them and others not. It also shows how their interview with Oprah Winfrey has impacted the Royal Family in a damaging way.
In order to not only mention the Royal Family as “racist” nor the villains in this news story, they provided interviews of theirs where they show equality in their work.
Other sources: Provided information regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and how they feel regarding the whole situation.
Technical Elements [mise-en-scene (if any); camerawork; use of sound and/or music; editing]
Colour correction – I think there was some orange hint to the feature. It looks much more pleasing to the eye with a bit of tint.
Different shots – different shots like close up of interviewee’s faces, shots of hands (to show fidgeting). These shots show the emotion of the interviewees.
The reports’ cultural context
This article is mostly targeted towards the UK, since they are the Royals. However, the Royals have always been a prime topic worldwide, discussed in news features and people love to hear about their gossip and make up their own theories. Also, Meghan is American, so for some Americans this might also be important news for them.
This interview of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with Oprah Winfrey was much for the audience’s interest especially since the previews showed prince Harry saying that his biggest fear was “history repeating itself” which audience speculated that it this is a metaphor regarding Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. Which various people from the UK and other countries still adore the late Princess Diana till this day.
The intentions of the presenter’s telling of the story
I think the intention of Sky’s Rhiannon Mills was providing fact and there was not an agenda nor biased. As I mentioned earlier her voice is both monotonous when speaking about both Duchesses of Sussex and the Royal Family meaning that she was clearly not siding with anyone.
 B2) Sky News
Narrative Construction
The article starts with the lead – Mentioning the disappearance and murder of Sarah Everard that happened on the third of March after she visited a friend in London, Clapham and the impact it has made throughout the UK and also worldwide, it has increased fear amid women for their safety.
Also quoting from Met Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick, while acknowledging women would be concerned, tried to allay fears as she said "it is thankfully incredibly rare for a woman to be abducted from our streets".
*Video* - This feature shows us the statistics and crimes that has happened to both men and women. Explaining to the viewers how a serial killer reacts, showing crime scenes, photos and an interview of a man who had lost his wife and step-daughter.
Now discussing the body - In the article it shows the statistics of women that were killed in England and Whales between April 2019 and March 2020.
Tumblr media
Then continuing that “Women are more likely to be killed at home by somebody they know”.
Tumblr media
And that 77 percent of the women that were killed in these statistics were all in residential properties.
Tumblr media
“Men, are more likely to be killed in a public place.”
And how “Women are more likely to be killed by their partners or ex-partners”
The tail – To conclude the article, it talks about violence against women from former senior Colin Sutton, who is investigating the officer for the Metropolitan police murder squad had previously stated to Sky News: "There are very few, thankfully, men who commit violence against women in the street, in public places.
"When they do arise, when they're arrested and looked at it's found that not only do they use violence against women in the street but they'll also use violence in the home against their partner."
Treatment
This article was treated as an informative article, to inform the viewers how important it is to increase the awareness on the safety of women in the UK.
It shows the statistics of how women and men are killed and explains how some murderers feel after they killed someone or before it happened.
The agenda is definitely an open one explaining the likeliness of a woman to be killed in a public place and going further into detail about murder of women and men, there would be no hidden agenda in this type of article.
Quality and depth of subject matter
The quality of this article was excellent, the video is highly interesting and includes a number of sources and crime scenes in detail. The depth of the subject matter was dealt with appropriately, it is clear and concise.
Showing graphs to determine the difference between women and men getting murdered while also explaining the psychological aspect of a murderer. Sky News is very reliable when it comes to their authenticity, they conduct their own personal interviews and research.
The role of the presenter/interviewer
Presenter – voice over (Liv Moloney) Liv Moloney is a senior digital producer who works with Sky News.
The presenter’s tone of voice sounds serious which is appropriate for the video.
She describes the details in depth and presents evidence to back up the information.
The interviewee as a character in the story (analyse how they talk)
Interviewee 1: Detective – Colin Sutton
The role of former murder detective Colin Sutton is to inform the audience about the demographics of murders of men and women in the UK.
He talks about his previous criminal cases on how they happen spontaneously, the use of overkilling and how it starts.
Interviewee 2: Julia Shaw – Criminal Psychologist
Her role is to make the viewers to understand the psychological part of murder and murderers.
She talks about why men murder their partners.
She mentions how “we overly rely on cues of things like attractiveness” and “being more likely to trust someone because they’re attractive and less likely to trust someone because they’re unattractive” (Shaw, 2021)
She talks about the reasons for men being violent and how we tolerate the expression of violence in men more than we do in women.
She also mentions how murder “is this thing that we assume we’re not capable of until it happens” and “how we see ourselves as good people” (Shaw, 2021).
She talked about the importance of how emotions such as anger, jealousy, greed and rage can all leads us into a situation where she thinks that everyone is potentially capable of murder and how it is not an external thing.
Technical Elements [mise-en-scene (if any); camerawork; use of sound and/or music; editing]
This video shows elements of a thriller documentary about murder, including intense thriller music, creepy text, images and videos behind scenes of murders. Also including images and clips of serial killers such as (Ted Bundy and Jack the Ripper)
It also changes the music to a more compassionate song, when there is interview shown with a man who had lost his wife and step-daughter because the step-daughters ex-partner murdered them.
The reports’ cultural context
Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the murder of Sarah Everard, who was killed by a serving Met police officer Wayne Couzens in the UK. This has been spread quickly and there have been posts on social media about how unfair it is that a woman cannot even walk alone in a public place.
How we as women have grown up having to learn about defending ourselves against men. Therefore, in cultural aspects this has been shared worldwide and has definitely brought up awareness and concern to our society.
The intentions of the presenter’s telling of the story
I think the presenter’s intentions (Liv Moloney) was to portray this interview in an engaging way, figuring out the psychology of murderers but also giving us alarming information to create more awareness. I think she wanted to create an impact to give more apprehension for these situations and to hopefully prevent more of these cases.

Self-study of English (1) ---Before the Internet Prevailed
I’m feeling that self-study is more interesting than taking lessons from teachers when it comes to learning English. It might be the first time in 40 years to feel so. Even though I have chances to try my English to non-Japanese people every day, I prefer reading news articles and calculating my reading speed.
English learning in the 20th century
When I was a teenager, there was no Internet in Japan. Computers were used just among programmers, engineers, or analysts who belonged to big companies. English learners in Japan in the 20th century had slim chances to take lessons from non-Japanese teachers due to expensive tuition. Cheaper alternatives to hands-on lessons by non-Japanese teachers (especially by native speakers of English) were practicing with TV programs, radio programs, or drill books with audio clips.
Tumblr media
* Kiso Eigo series is supervised by University professors or teachers at prestige schools
I practiced English with the radio program Kiso Eigo (currently Kiso Eigo 1) at the age of 12, which was made for novice learners. I had tough times learning with it since it contained 10 times more difficult grammar points than my junior high textbook, but I stuck to it. Even though I didn’t understand grammar points in Kiso Eigo textbooks, I really enjoyed practicing English with the narrators, which was like music sessions without any instruments to me. I still remember the (old) Kiso Eigo textbooks had notes about how to read each sentence with lines like the ones used for Chinese four tones.
Tumblr media
Thanks to these pronunciation notes, I really enjoyed learning English even when I couldn’t understand grammar points. Frankly, I just focused on mimicking the narrators on the radio.
Speaking skills assessment in the pre-Internet era
English learners who belonged to major English schools could take skill tests gauged by specialists, at least by native English speakers, which really cost a lot. City education ministries hired just a few non-Japanese teachers who visited almost all schools for special lessons, whereas private high schools have at least one regular teacher from an English-speaking country. For junior high or senior high students then, participating in regional English speech contests or recitation contests was the cheapest way to measure speaking skills. The Eiken test was more popular compared to now because the TOEIC test was known only among trading company workers. The Eiken test for students was one of the handiest ways to check English skills in total. English clubs at school were great alternatives for English schools,  Especially in universities, English-learning activities are based mainly on public debate, panel discussion, drama, and public speaking, and members practice really hard for their competitions or productions.  When I was a university student, I was in the strictest English club and involved in the drama production team. I experienced lots of practices not only for improving English skills but also theatrical skills, which have helped me communicate with people effectively and broaden my perspectives. Some of my friends from rich families were chosen as exchange students by the university faculty, or they went abroad via student exchange agencies. Studying abroad is the simplest way of gauging speaking skills in total; it’s available for limited people though.
Financial divide in English education in Japan
Not having enough money means financial limitation when someone is struggling to achieve his or her future goal. He or she might have to give up on his or her efforts or compromise about his or her training circumstances. ESL Japanese who haven’t been abroad and practice English only in Japan are called “Jun-Japa” (domestic English-speaking Japanese), who had been sometimes inferior to those who experienced living abroad in job hunting. I’m one of that “Jun-Japa” because my parents are both xenophobias. They allowed me to major English in the university and supported me even after-class activities, but they didn’t firmly want me to be an international person, which means abandoning family tradition. To relieve my parents, I promised I will not go abroad or work abroad and use English staying in Japan. I started my business career as a junior high teacher in Chiba prefecture. I taught English then, and the reason for becoming an English teacher is another story, so I’ll post another entry for it later. Unfortunately, I got completely burned out there; I found that the teaching strategies I’d been taught at the university were not effective at all. I could have kept up my career only if I’d had a habit of learning English after work then.
Workers at smaller domestic companies welcomed “Jun-Japa” candidates as long as they were polite enough and capable of completing their tasks, but they had slim chances to share about learning English with their colleagues at work. After work activities (learning English is one of them) should be done in secret, so teaching English looked really attractive in a way of earning money from my favorite thing. In the pre-Internet era, people in Japan were 1,000 times more work-oriented, so housewives then called themselves “golf widows” and “weekend school activity widows”. A couple of English-learning housewives who acquired extraordinary English proficiency translated popular books and magazine articles into Japanese and achieved getting income staying at home, which was considered one of the ideal lifestyles of married women with work-life balance.
When it comes to English teachers at schools, international experiences were not so superior in giving lessons to students. That means “Jun-Japa” English teachers can be as competitive as those who have studied abroad, on condition that they have excellent reputations from students, students’ parents, and the managers. Even in the first year in junior high school (7th grade), students’ learning skills have already been categorized based on their underground knowledge about other subjects. When English lessons at schools start, students’ English-learning traits tend to be divided into four types below.
Tumblr media
I was educated at my first university (note:  I’m a distant learner of business management at another university in Tokyo) that an English teacher must be an entertainer in his or her lessons. Later in 2013, especially after I restarted teaching at high schools in Ibaraki prefecture,  I recognized this message contains a couple of tips for teachers to stay mentally healthy:
(1) Spend some time as a student
(2) Teaching is the climax of learning
(3) Students’ happy faces come first
Time has passed and we’ve been living in the Internet era. We can choose how to learn English from more choices than in the times without the Internet, but I still believe that it’s impossible for technology or AI to streamline all foreign language learning methods.

We've noticed this post on tree maintenance below on the web and thought it made good sense to share it with you here.
Lawn and yard up-keep is usually a lot of work whether there are several trees to trim. Mowing the lawn is one thing but trimming trees becomes harder as they grow. Young trees are not difficult to keep up for quite a while, but if you choose to top the highest ones you will have to buy special tools for that. Included here are a few suggestions for personal safety if your trees have reached that point and you still wish to do the work yourself.
Get Somebody Who Can Help You
Doing the job by yourself is fine if you are in good shape and wish to save money instead of getting a tree service company. If there is any climbing going on you are urged to have another person there, for support. Another person can make the job a lot easier and more productive. Now consider climbing down the tree just to get one tool, it would be lost time and energy.
Think Safety First
To avoid a mishap, take a look at your surroundings. Set up your work area away from objects like lawn furniture or anything else that could get in the way during the work. If that is impossible, be wary of your setting and be extra careful when there is a fence close to the work area.
Tool Safety
Some incidents come from tools that breakdown. All tree service pros take care of their tools and so should you. Well maintained tools, save time because delays are avoided.
Make safety your top priority. A person in good shape and prepared for the work can to do it right if safety measures are thought out in advance.
Work With The Correct Tools
Axe: An axe is the original and still the most popular tool in this business and used a lot for smaller trees. It can also be useful to chop small pieces of wood.
Stump Grinder: This contraption is used exclusively for finishing tree removal work. Once you are done cutting down the tree, you will want a tool that can clear away the leftover stump namely a stump grinder. Teeth on the stump grinder make short work of the leftover stump and roots.
Shears: Trimming shears are available in different sizes. Some types are used for landscaping trees while others are used for smaller branches. There are also trimming shears that come with a long handle to reach high branches.
Ladder: A ladder is used for smaller trees 30 feet tall or shorter. They can also be helpful to reach high branches if it is required.
Chain saw: A power saw can be used to slash limbs off the trunk easily. This tool is among the more perilous to use, so being aware of the way to use one is quite important.
Pick Axe and Grub Hoes: These tools are useful for back yard trees. These are like other tools but smaller in size. These are quite effective for removing tree roots.
Rigging Rope: This sort of rope is made for removing tall trees. Rigging ropes pre owned to hold up large limbs and trunk pieces so they may be lowered gradually to the ground. These riggings tend to be used in conjunction with a safety harness for higher stability on the job.
If you think rigging rope would be called for it is highly advised to take a look at hiring a professional tree services company as an alternative. The idea of buying the equipment alone should make a case for calling in a specialist, along with the safety concerns, how much work is involved and understanding your property cannot really handle damage due to a mistake on your part.
Free & Cheap Tree Removal Options
We had the same problem. A large tree next to our house was growing into the driveway, and the roots were invading our sewer line. My husband borrowed a friend's chainsaw and cut the branches that he was able to get to himself. Another friend, who is in the electric business, had a truck with a lift, and he agreed to cut the higher limbs for us, just charging us for the gas to run his truck. His brother helped him place a chain around the top of the tree before it was felled, to pull it away from the house (so the tree would not fall on the house)! Then you have wood you can sell to make back your expenses, if you wish. We gave ours to friends. We still have the stump to remove. We are planning to let it soften, then burn it. You can also rent choppers from equipment rental stores that will chop up the stump. You might be able to get rid of that tree for free. Advertise in your local paper that you have a tree that needs to be removed and that you will give the wood free to whoever removes it and cleans the area up. My parents heat with wood and my stepdad always watches the paper for these notices and then will go and remove the tree so he can get the wood to burn. You should be able to get someone to answer your ad and take care of your problem! Depending on the location of the tree, try calling your municipality and tell them about your problem. Usually, the municipality owns the grass area between your sidewalk and the street. They are the ones who plant the trees in this area. If they know the tree is getting into the sewer, they may remove it for free.
