Hiiii! So, since it's allowed to send some requests in..I have an angsty one (I think i mentioned it months ago) 😁 Alex Danvers x reader. They are childhood sweethearts, now happily married, reader is not part of the DEO tho she knows everything. Somehow, another Alex from different Earth comes through a portal, having lost her own wife. She is kinda mean though. She temporarily disables "our Alex" and kidnaps reader, taking her to her Earth, leaving the Superfriends look for them in order to bring reader back. - happily ever after or not, I'd leave it up to you 😁 thank you! 😊

The day was filled with a rare clarity as Kara flew her way through the lush landscape. The villa, an architectural masterpiece of bygone times, sat majestically on a hill, surrounded by a lush garden framed by magnificent trees. The last rays of sunshine of the day bathed the scene in a golden light as the blonde took in the silence and atmosphere of the nature around her.
You outdid yourself in choosing the location for celebrating your fifth wedding anniversary with Alex. The old, vine-covered, red-brick house with its large, bordered green park was glorious in the summertime and brought out the bright colors you have carried in your heart from the day you met the redhead.
A gentle wind blew through the treetops, carrying with it the quiet hum of birds. Kara arrived on the ground and immediately climbed the stone steps to the entrance, where the massive doors stood wide open, welcoming her warmly. A faint hint of nostalgia hung in the air in the spacious entrance hall. Antique furnishings filled the room, from silver-plated mirrors to a grand, curved staircase that led elegantly to the upper floors.
A soft murmur and the quiet clatter of tools came from outside. She followed the sound and found herself on a balcony. The vantage point offered a breathtaking view of the garden and surrounding countryside. Down there, the workers spread all over the white gravel road and seemed busy as they were making some arrangements and put the finishing touches to the decorations.
The hammering and knocking mingled with the humming of the bees buzzing around in the garden's blossoms. Elegant tables and chairs were arranged, garlands were artfully draped and bright, yellowish lights were placed in the trees. It was as if the place itself was preparing to have an unforgettable evening filled with people you both loved.
Kara leaned against the railing of the balcony and watched the hustle and bustle below her. It was impressive how each move seemed perfectly coordinated with the next. It was clear that you worked for your anniversary with a passion for detail and beauty.
The blonde could not be present at the preparations for your wedding, she was busy saving the city from a dangerous alien. But this time she enjoyed it much more intensively, knowing that both her sister and you could not be happier than at this point in time. The people her sister had dated were nice but could never compare to you. You brought forth something in the eldest Danvers that no one had done before.
In the midst of all this hectic activity and her deep thoughts, you suddenly appeared behind her, a bright smile on your lips, your hair slightly disheveled from work. She could tell right away that you wore a smile that was full of anticipation and mystery. "Kara!"
“Y/n, it looks really spectacular. Alex will be thrilled." The blonde exclaimed with a mixture of excitement and relief, walking the last steps that separated the two of you to wrap you in a tight hug. After a while, you separated yourself from her and stepped next to her closer to the edge of the balcony. You nodded vigorously, unable to take off your wide grin. "I hope so. I have all of her favorite things here, and the guest list is also full of all our friends and family. It's going to be an evening full of joy and memories.“
Kara gently placed an arm around your shoulder and pulled you closer to her. "Believe me, she'll love it," with a kiss on your temple, you rested your head on her shoulder and joined her in surveying the final preparations that were being completed, ready to reveal the secret of the evening and mark the beginning of an unforgettable fifth anniversary.
ᕚ---ᕘ
The sunlight slowly dipped towards the horizon and the first stars began to twinkle lightly in the sky. Kara´s bedroom glowed with a warm light coming from the numerous candles on the surfaces of her furniture and the fireplace. A soft scent of vanilla and red roses hung in the air as you eagerly prepared to head off to your own anniversary party with Alex. Kara had suggested that you get ready at her place so that Alex wouldn't see you beforehand. After all, everything should be a surprise - including what you wore.
In her bedroom, a happy melody floated through the atmosphere as you stood in front of the large mirror. Your dress, an elegant, long evening gown in a shimmering burgundy red, hung on the door behind you. With a hint of excitement in your eyes, you gave yourself a smile in the mirror as you began your makeup.
The sounds of jazz music came from your phone, where the playlist for the evening was already rehearsing. The memories of five years of ups and downs flowed through your mind, and a warm feeling of gratitude spread through your heart before you prepared to sit at the dressing table, surrounded by a fine selection of lipsticks, eye shadows and perfumes.
You opened a bottle of your favorite scent, which even the redhead found hard to resist, and let the floral scent fill the air. The sparkling silver earrings Alex gave you for your first wedding anniversary were waiting on the table to be put on.
As you were applying your makeup, you suddenly felt a strange energy flowing through the room and heard a soft, magical hum. With a brush in your hand, you walked confusedly towards the door that separated you from what was happening in the anteroom. “Kara?” you asked, unsure about your sister-in-law, not actually expecting her here at this time. The blonde had promised you that she would look after the location while you got ready. “Is everything okay? I thought you wanted to-"
As you poked your head through the crack, you saw a glowing portal open in the middle of the room. Out of the shimmering light emerged a figure that seemed familiar at first glance. It wasn't until you took a second look that you saw Alex, appearing in a swirl of colors and sparks. "Babe, are you okay? I thought you were on your way to Sam," you asked with a mixture of fear and surprise, narrowing your eyes as you looked at her closely. The clothes she wore were strange and definitely not something she ever seemed to wear. The redhead seemed worn out and there was no love or happiness shining in her eyes like it used to. Just a dark shadow, while the features of her face seemed unnaturally hard.
"Y/n," she spoke in a voice that cut icy through the night and sent a shiver down your spine. She walked towards you with slow steps and a mischievous grin and you immediately sensed that something was wrong. "You have to come with me. Right now."
You took a step back, gripped by an inexplicable unease. You stared at the person who was acting differently than your partner, feeling a strange feeling arise within you as she continued to walk towards you with slow and dangerous steps. "Why? Where do you want to take me? And who are you anyway?"
Alex twisted her face into a mocking smile and snorted contemptuously. "I'm your wife, silly. Just from another dimension. My wife is lost forever and now I'm here to take you with me." she spoke delicately, a devilish smile slipping across her black painted lips. Her hand placed itself on your shoulder and gently moved down until she reached your wrist and gripped it painfully. You winced, squeezing your eyes shut as you tried to suppress the flash of pain in your forearm. "You can't just show up here and expect me to come with you. You're a stranger."
She glared at you with reddish, shiny eyes, that sent shivers down your spine. Her grip on your wrist tightened, her cold fingers wrapping around your bare skin. She was angry. Very angry, but you could see a hint of sadness in her icy eyes. And despite the unpleasant situation, you felt a mixture of sympathy and irritation. "I may be able to help you, but not if you treat me like this. I'm sorry you lost your wife but I won't go with you. My Alex is here and I won't leave her.“
"But I am stronger, smarter and more determined while your Alex is weak and naive. You would be better off with me than with anyone else who only shares their physical resemblance with me." With a quick movement she raised her hand and released a beam of crimson energy at you. "You will follow me whether you want to or not. In my world there are possibilities that you cannot even imagine."
Without waiting for an answer, she violently pulled you through the portal. Reality blurred and a light briefly blinded you. As the veil lifted, you stumbled through the swirl of color, dazed and with a sharp pain in your head.
"What have you done?" You whispered, staggering and trying to focus on your surroundings. Disoriented and irritated, you looked at the dark, distorted version of National City as you knew it. Dark Alex, as you had already called her in your head, smiled triumphantly and looked down at you as you got on all fours, still trying to free yourself from the spinning dizziness that was taking over you. "Welcome to my world, my darling. Here we will see how strong you really are and whether you can do justice as my wife."
You felt trapped in a strange, hostile and cold dimension. Ignorance of what was going on and burning concern for your real wife led to a mixture of fear and determination. But what you didn't know was that your real Alex, left on her own Earth, was locked in a box somewhere far away from the city, temporarily switched off by unconsciousness and magical chains that rendered her unable to move even the slightest.
You knew that a battle would begin to rage between dimensions to determine your whereabouts.

The festively decorated hall was filled with a lively murmur and the clinking of champagne glasses as Kara, the Superfriends, and other guests excitedly waited for you and Alex. The room glowed with a warm light in the darkness of the evening as the candles flickered on the tables and soft melodies floated through the air.
The blonde, in an elegant dress, walked nervously through the crowd, her super ears alert to every noise, while Lena, Winn and Sam stood at the entrance of the hall, looking for you. The anticipation in the air gradually faded as the minutes passed and neither of you showed up. "It's unusual for these two to be so late," said Winn, looking worriedly at his watch and swaying nervously on his feet.
Lena frowned her brow in worry. She also found it strange. You were particularly punctual in everything else you did. "I tried calling y/n but it only goes to voicemail. Maybe they're late or stuck in traffic? I really hope everything is okay."
The mood among the guests became increasingly nervous as more time passed and the two of you still didn't show up. Kara felt a vague unrest inside her, as if something had gone terribly wrong. She decided to investigate the situation and set out to look for her sister and sister-in-law.
In the meantime, a tense silence filled the hall. The guests whispered worriedly to each other as the music in the background grew quieter and quieter. Lena, Winn, Sam and J'onn tried in vain to call any of you, but all attempts to contact failed.
Finally Kara returned, her face expressionless. The tension between the superfriends was palpable as the blonde walked sternly towards them and addressed the concerned guests. "I couldn't find her. Alex isn't home and y/n isn't in my apartment. However, her dress is still hanging untouched in my bedroom and-" she paused for a moment, pulling a small electronic device out of her jacket pocket. "This is y/n's cell phone. The music was still playing on it when I got to my apartment but she wasn't there. Something is wrong."
A hint of unease crossed the crew's faces. The anniversary celebration, which was planned to be full of joy and celebration, turned into a worrying situation of waiting and uncertainty. "What do we do now?" Sam asked questioningly.
"We have to find out what happened. I'm going to work with J'onn and fly to the DEO. Maybe we can find something out there," she replied with a firm look on her face, the growing concern for the both of you only increasing. "Winn and Lena, can you please go to my apartment and see if you can spot any alien activity?"
The Superfriends nodded solemnly as Kara headed off with J'onn to take action. The once happy atmosphere of the day was tinged with worry and anxiety as everyone hoped that you and Alex would return safely to celebrate your anniversary.
The night fell like a dark cloak over National City as Supergirl flew through the streets with a worried look in her eyes. Her super senses were at their peak as she searched for signs of her sister. The unsettling thought that something was wrong made her heart beat faster by the minute.
On a quiet side street, a faint sign of life pierced her super ears. Supergirl slowed her trajectory to locate the source of the sound, her X-ray ability sweeping over the abandoned factory before breaking through the light metal garage door. In a flash she landed next to a dark box, ripping the lid off the nails, seeing her sister lying there with iron chains and a purple aura surrounding her. "Alex.."
Her hands shot out to check the redhead's pulse. The heartbeat was slow, almost imperceptible. She immediately contacted J'onn and the DEO through the comms she had set up before her flight. But the chains made it much more difficult for her to bring the young agent to the DEO. The metal magically burned through her skin upon contact. She had to hurry up. "J'onn, I found Alex. She is unconscious and her heartbeat is extremely weak. I am taking her to the medical department immediately."
Meanwhile, Winn and Lena were already in Kara's apartment, looking for clues to your whereabouts. The room was in pristine condition, but the sight of your abandoned dress on the bedroom door worried the two of them. Lena held it carefully between her fingers and examined it as Winn used the DEO's technology to search for alien activity in the area.
The two continued searching the blonde's apartment when suddenly Winn's detectors picked up on some unusual, changing air. They looked at each other as they noticed that the particle sensors in the air were revealing their presence in the apartment. "I knew something was wrong. She would never abandon us without a reason. Especially not Alex."
"That's strange," Winn muttered, pointing to the display on his monitor as he rapidly typed something on the keyboard. "There are some alternate dimension particles in the air here. That suggests a portal was recently opened here. Lena frowned. "A portal? Here? But how is that possible?"
Winn re-examined the readings and discovered some kind of energetic pattern in the room. "It looks like a portal was active here, but it's been closed. It seems like y/n went through a portal."
"But why? And who could be responsible for it? After all, she has no ability to open such a portal," the black-haired woman speculated and Winn looked up. "Good questions that unfortunately we can only get answers from y/n."
As the two desperately tried to search for answers, uncertainty hung over them. A mystery seemed to be unfolding, and those who knew you best sensed that something big was afoot. They stayed in the apartment with the feeling that a strange, mysterious world had forced its way into their lives and taken one of them with it. The magic of the portal and the unsolved mysteries about your stay hung like a shadow over the two of them.
Meanwhile, Supergirl had arrived at the DEO with Alex. The doctors immediately took over medical care while Supergirl waited nervously nearby. J'onn walked up, his eyes worrying. "What do you think happened?"
"I don't know. But what I know is that something serious must have happened,“ she said with a sigh. Her shaky and slightly sweaty hand cupped her forehead and laboriously brushed away the wrinkles that appeared as she frowned. "Have Winn and Lena at least found out something about my sister-in-law yet?"
"Yes, they did. And you won't like it," he replied, putting his hands on his hips. He watched the expression on her face, the panic that overtook her, even if she didn't want to show it on the outside. "They found particles that Winn was able to trace back to a portal."
As the Martian continued to show her more details about the discoveries in her own apartment, the redhead slowly began to regain consciousness when the DEO's resources were used to successfully remove the iron chains from her. She struggled to sit up in bed against the doctors' wishes, still very dizzy. "What happened?" Alex murmured, her memories slowly returning. She was able to piece together some fragments of her memories, but she hoped for a complete answer, which she still lacked. She held her head, which hurt badly from the attack and her attempted self-defense.
"You were found unconscious. We don't know exactly what happened, but we're looking for y/n. She's missing," Kara explained to her, gently stroking her disheveled hair.
She looked at her sister with wide eyes, fear and terror crossing her face. Her pupils dilated rapidly, making her eyes appear darker, as she tried to rip the vein access and electrocardiogram from her body. Kara stopped her. "There was someone who came into our apartment through a portal just as I was getting ready."
Supergirl and J'onn perked up their ears. "Who was it?"
"She looked exactly like me. She threatened to take my wife away. After that there was a fight, she overpowered me and then..." she stopped talking, knowing what happened next. Alex from another dimension had carried out her threats.
Kara nodded slowly, slowly pushing her sister back into bed. She promised to bring her sister-in-law back safely into Alex's arms while the redhead rested from the attack. After all, she had been attacked with an energy that did not exist on this world and could produce side effects that did not come from earth.
As the mystery of your disappearance deepened and unraveled, Winn and Lena continued to work with the DEO to trace the portal particles and alien activity. J'onn mobilized all of the DEO's resources to find out which dimension was responsible, while his best agent and your friends remained in the dark, not knowing where a family member had disappeared to.

« Pairing: Alex Danvers x Reader »

“Stop fidgeting ‘Lexie” You sighed in annoyance as your fiancée tossed and turned for what must’ve been the 7th time in that past 20 minutes.
On a usual day, the pair of you would’ve still been at work at 3pm on a Thursday but instead you were both laying in bed, surrounded by crumpled tissues and blankets. Alex had gotten some bug at the start of the week and much to your annoyance had firmly insisted she was fine. Which led her into running herself into the ground to the point she’d almost passed out while on a fairly easy extraction mission with her squad.
That had finally convinced her to slow down a little. You’d called the two of you from work with the intent that you could look after her for the rest of the week. Which would’ve been fine if she hadn’t coughed and spluttered all over you the whole time, leading to you be curled up in bed beside her not even two days later.
“I cant get comfy.” She sniffled in reply - despite several days passing, she still felt awful and as you’d come to found out, Alex was a total baby when she was sick, “That stupid medicine isn’t working.” She grumbled in reference to the medication she’d taken a few minutes prior.
“Honey, you need to be patient.” You sighed, “Come on. Lay your head here, that’s better,”
She seemed to get a little settled after resting her head on your chest, seemingly quietening down as she listened to the rhythmic thumping of your heart, “Being patient sucks. It should work instantly.”
“You know full well it doesn’t work instantly just be pat- Hh-“ You lost track of your thoughts as your breath hitched off, jolting your forwards moments later with several itchy sounding sneezes, causing the girl on your chest to whine at the jostling. “Just wait a little bit, okay? It’ll work soon enough.” You sighed, rubbing the edge of your sleeve under your nose as you sniffled afterwards.
Alex shot you a look but through the filter of her tired, half-closed eyes, the usual effect of her glare was lost, “I hate this.” She pouted, crossing her arms as she stuck out her lower lip.
"I don't want to say I told you so…but-" you muttered with a playful smirk, adjusting the blankets around both of you as you continued, "Maybe next time you'll actually rest when you feel something coming on, you could’ve been feeling better by now."
The agent let out a weak groan, burying her face deeper into your chest, “I hate resting, it’s so boring.”
"Well, you hate being sick too," you teased gently, running your fingers through her hair, "so it's a lose-lose situation I’m afraid Danvers and I think we both know which the better option is.”
Alex let out a soft, congested laugh, "I suppose you have a point." She shifted slightly, wincing as she found a more comfortable position. "Sorry for being such a pain, love. I know you’re still feeling under the weather too."
She sniffled and let her head rest back up on your shoulder as she nestled against you and you found yourself smiling fondly as you ran your hand through her messy hair, "I promise, I won't hold it against you, even if you are the neediest patient ever."

CW: Violence and such
A wave of air rolled over Lena and she heard the telltale crackle of one of Lex’s portals. Waiting in the shadows, she watched him stumble into the room, bruised and panting.
She wasted no time, stepping forward and shoving the device into the crook of his neck like a stun gun. His body went rigid as she relieved of him of his stolen powers, negating the effects of the Harun-El serum he’d manipulating her into creating. Something else he stole from her.
He stumbled back and turned. She already had the gun out in her hand, aimed at his chest. He backed away, moving to the far end of the room, in front of banks of computers and monitors.
“Hello, sis. I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised.”
“Save it,” said Lena, raising the gun in front of her to aim at his head.
A heartbeat passed. Lex grinned.
“If you were going to shoot me, you’d have done it by now.”
“I can’t let you live,” Lena said, feeling the weight of each word as it escaped her, weighing her down. “The world will never be safe as long as you live.”
“Oh, dear sister,” said Lex. “Take it from someone with experience. If you’re going to murder someone in cold blood, work yourself up before you get to the scene. It prevents awkward situations like this.”
“Shut up.”
“You might want to make sure you have the right target, while you’re at it.”
Lena let out a long, slow sigh.
“Put your hands on the table and don’t move a muscle.”
Lex laughed. “What, are you arresting me now?”
There was another soft puff of air, and then a shriek of rending metal as the doors buckled in. Supergirl stormed into the room, parting the steel the way a normal woman might part curtains. She stomped into the room, even more bruised and bloody than Lex, hair matted with mud and blood, eyes blazing with righteous fury.
“You,” she snarled. “Murderer!”
“We’ve established that”, Lex said, almost casually.
Lena still held the gun ready, aimed at his chest.
“You can put that down, Miss Luthor. He’s not getting away this time. We can track his portals now.”
“Oh, can you?” Said Lex. “That’ll certainly be a wrinkle in my plans.”
“You’re not making any more plans,” Lena spat, fighting back tears as she thumbed back the hammer on her revolver.
That’s it, Lex’s voice murmured in her mind. Ease the hammer back and you just have to touch the trigger and it’ll go off. I had it tuned special for you. Remember, aim small, miss small.
“Miss Luthor,” Supergirl said, turning to her. “Don’t do that.”
“If you take him to jail, he’ll just get out again,” said Lena. “He’ll just escape and kill more people.” She choked out a sob. “He’ll kill you eventually. We have to win every time. He just has to win once.”
“Sounds like a good reason for you to join the winning team, Lena.”
Lena put her finger on the trigger, and Supergirl stepped between them.
“Don’t,” she said, very softly. “He wants you to be like him. We’re the good guys, Lena. We don’t kill. You’re one of the good guys.”
“No I’m not,” Lena said, her voice hitching.
“Yes you are. I believe you, Lena.”
Lena met her eyes, their gazes linking with that same pull she felt whenever she made eye contact with the Maid of Might, and she faltered. Lex was right. She didn’t have it in her. Not now. Not in front of her. Lena lowered the gun and Supergirl gave her a soft, ethereal, profoundly familiar smile.
Lex shoved a Kryptonite dagger into her back, and Supergirl cried out in agony, green poison ripping through her flesh. With a savage grin, he twisted the knife, breaking off the fragile blade with a hideous snap.
Lena forgot everything but Supergirl as she collapsed to the floor, rushing to kneel beside her. Supergirl convulsed, her back arching brutally as she stared into the void, blood gurgling in her throat.
“Cooked that one up special,” said Lex, panting. “She has minutes at most.”
Lena did not speak. She raised her gun and shot him twice in the chest, two rapid thunderclaps that left her ears ringing, and he toppled back into the wall.
“Fuck,” he choked out. “Guess you do… have it…”
“Shut up!” Lena screamed, “you fucking bastard! Shut up!”
“But that’s not all, Lex choked out. “I’ve got one…” he coughed, “one more… for you…”
Feebly, he reached into his jacket and drew out a remote control, hand shaking as he strained to activate it.
The monitors lit up, assaulting her with a savage truth. She saw Kara Danvers breathe grown men off their feet, blasting the searing heat of a dead star from her eyes, snatch bullets from the air.
“Kara Danvers… is Supergirl.” Lex grinned out, with a rattling laugh. “She’s been lying to you… manipulating…”
Something glinted on his wrist. The watch. The portal watch.
Lena lunged, throwing herself at him. Lex pulled his hand away and shoved. He pushed her back and threw himself on top of her, sending the gun sliding away. Pinning her wrist to the cold floor, he knees into her stomach, crushing the breath out of her in an explosion of pain.
With his other hand, he rapped his chest. “Bulletproof vest. Couple broken ribs. Should have brought a bigger gun, Lena.”
Lex knotted his fingers in her hair, pulling savagely to turn her head, forcing her to look.
Kara lay on the floor, her breath coming in short, shallow gasps. A low moan escaped her throat and she rolled on her side, looking at Lena with eyes streaked with putrid green.
“I’m sorry,” Kara rasped out. “I’m sorry, Lena.”
Lena stared, a hopeless, helpless feeling spreading through her as though she sank into freezing water.
“I for-“ she began, only for Lex to close his hands around her throat.
“Oh, I’m sorry, were you having a moment?”
Lena flailed as he tightened his grip on her, her head pounding and her lungs burning as he crushed down her airway. Lena thrashed, desperate to fight him off.
I’m going to die. I’m going to die and I never told her.
With a scream of animal fury, somehow, Kara threw herself at him, bodily knocking him away from Lena, freeing her.
It must have been the last of Kara’s strength, because she collapsed in a boneless heap, moaning. Lex snarled, jamming his thumb into Kara’s wound.
“Oh my, I hope you weren’t using that kidney.”
Lena rolled. She grabbed the gun, rolled again.
Aim small, miss small.
Bang.
Lex snapped back, away from Kara, his genius fanned out from his skull to paint the wall. Lena ignored the sight, forced herself not to think about what she just did, forced herself to feel no pain as she scrambled to his body and peeled the watch off his wrist, locking it around her own. She had to hope.
The interface was simple enough.
“Almost there,” she told Kara. “Almost.”
The portal swirled to life and Lena began screaming at the top of her lungs.
“Help! It’s Kryptonite, help her!”
Alex stormed through, eyes going wide at the scene before her. She immediately began shouting orders. Someone pulled Lena away from Kara, forcing their laced fingers apart. Lena told herself that Kara was going to be okay, that her hand hadn’t been cold and limp and lifeless, she pleaded for it to be true.
The only thing she said was “let me see Kara.” As they bandaged and examined her, it became a refrain. A chant. Alex finally came in to the medical bay and looked at her, a little piteously.
“Kara’s fine, Lena. She’s at her apartment. We just need…”
“She’s Supergirl,” Lena rasped through her bruises throat, “please let me see her.”
Alex swallowed hard. “I can’t. She’s in surgery to get the Kryptonite out of her abdomen. We can’t go in. It’s very delicate and the procedure has to be done under red sunlamps.”
“Please just let me see she’s alive.”
Alex nodded gently, and helped Lena to her feet. Her head was pounding, her knees pained her, and she ached where Lex had knees and choked her. She had to lean on Alex’s shoulder to walk to the operating room.
They watched through a window and Lena couldn’t help but stare. Kara lay on the table on her side, and oxygen mask over her face. There was blood in her hair and she was covered in bruises -even around her own throat- and she looked so small, so delicate and fragile. Lena pressed against the glass and strained with her entire being not to cry.
Alex placed a soft hand on her back. “Let it out.”
Lena did just that, sobbing into Alex’s shoulder.
“You saved my sister, Lena.”
Lena wept harder. Alex waited for it to stop, for Lena to pull back and swipe at her eyes like a child and step back.
There was a bench outside the operating ward. Lena sat down and refused to move. Eventually, Alex brought her food, but she didn’t eat. Nia tried to cheer her, and Brainy came to give her more details about Kara’s condition, probably trying to soothe her.
Lena waited in silence, needing to know of her sun would ever rise again. She waited and waited until, finally, beautifully, they rolled Kara out. She leapt from her seat and stormed after the medics, Alex joining her moments later.
They put Kara in a bed and connected more equipment to her, and hooked up another IV. The red light coming from the ceiling gave the room an eerie, sanguine glow.
“Why the red lamps?” said Lena.
“She has too much Kryptonite in her system,” said Alex. “We need to flush it out before we can turn on the sunlight and let her heal up fully.”
Lena swallowed, hard.
“Is my lab equipment still here?”
“Yes, why?”
Lena turned without a word. “Brainy,” she called, without looking for him, “get down here and help me.”
In the lab, Lena began to work, drawing on everything she knew, while Brainy structured and prepared the nanites for her.
Seven hours later, she returned to the recovery ward and found Alex quietly bent over her sister’s wounded body. She might have been praying. Eliza Danvers had joined her, and Lena momentarily paused, a little scared of the older woman, for reasons she couldn’t say.
Alex looked up, spotting the syringe of dark fluid in Lena’s hands.
“What’s that?”
“A cure for Kryptonite.”
Alex blinked. “You cured Kryptonite poisoning?”
“No. I cured Kryptonite. She’ll never have to fear it again.”
Alex blinked, and looked at her mother. They both looked at Lena, who nodded and injected the fluid into Kara’s IV.
It only took a few minutes. The green bruises all over her body began to fade and her breathing steadied. She moved slighty, groaned, and reached out.
“Lena,” she whispered.
“She’s okay,” said Alex. “She’s here. Everybody is here for you, sis. Lex got you pretty good but the surgeons and Lena patched you up again.”
“Hurts.”
“I know.”
“Lena.”
Alex swallowed. “I’m going to go get the yellow sunlamps set up.”
“I’ll help,” said Eliza.
As the both left, Lena waited an awkward beat and then rushed to Kara’s beside, lacing her fingers with those of Kara’s reaching hand.
“Kara, it’s me. I’m here.”
“I’m sorry.”
Lena sat down in the chair Alex had been using and smoothed back some of Kara’s hair, to better look into those beautiful blue eyes. Kara smiled softly.
“I lied to you,” Kara whispered.
“I know. I… I can’t say I don’t care but… it doesn’t seem to matter that much.”
Kara sighed. “I want to make it better.”
“I know,” said Lena, her voice cracking. “Kara, don’t worry about it now. Listen to me, okay?”
She gave a slight nod.
Lena sucked in a breath, feeling the ache in her belly and the burn in her throat. The desire to release these words warred with the fear and the anguish and the dread. She was about to reveal a truth of her own, one that she’d held so deep that she barely knew it was there until she saw the light dying behind Kara’s eyes.
The release of them was relief, like unyoking a great weight from her shoulders.
“I love you.”
“Lena…”
“No, please listen. I don’t mean as a friend, Kara. I mean I have feelings for you. Intense feelings. I… I don’t know if that’s something you’d ever want, but if it is, is there. If it’s not, you don’t how me anything. I’m still your friend. It’s just…”
Kara squeezed her hand ever so gently. Lena had forgotten that she even held it. She went quiet, waiting, feeling dread and hope swelling in her chest.
“Would it be forward of me to ask for a kiss?” Kara whispered.”
“No,” said Lena.
Kara’s lips were soft and warm, and though it was awkward to bend and place a soft peck on Kara’s lips, she did. She remained bent over the side of the bed, her forehead resting against Kara’s, sharing something quiet and fragile.
“I’ll make it up to you,” said Kara. “I will, I promise.”
“You already have,” said Lena. “I just hope I don’t screw this up.”
“You wont. I believe in Lena Luthor.”
Lena cracked a smiled, sighing, and ran a hand down Kara’s arm, reveling in her new freedom of touch, now matter how limited.
Alex cleared her throat.
“She needs a full day under the sun lamps,” said Alex, without elaborating.
Lena drew back but did not loose he grip on Kara’s hand.
“She’s going to get every minute of it.”
“Good,” said Alex. “Kara, are you hungry?”
Kara nodded.
“I’ll scrounge up something for you to eat. I have to find Nia first.”
“Why?” said Lena.
Alex offered a smile.
“She owes me fifty bucks.”

Lena Luthor x Reader #3
Tumblr media
Summary: Lena breaks up with Reader to keep her safe from Lex. Reader hatches a plan to get rid of him that goes terribly wrong, and naturally, torture follows. This mostly takes place after she’s found again.
Warnings:
Angst,torture, depression, trauma, childhood trauma
Notes:
Hey! I’m going about writing differently now. Everything I write from here on out will most likely be straight from the tumblr drafts and fairly quick. Something I decide to do in a random sitting (unless it’s paid for). Fair warning that this isn’t that, this is just something I worked on ages ago and didn’t publish. I did NO SPELLING CHECKS and remember writing at 2am, so warning number 2
———————
Lena loathed the DEO in that moment. She loathed Alex, and she loathed Supergirl , and she loathed every damn agent in the building so that she didn’t have to loathe herself instead. It’s not enough, there was still a small part of her that she couldn’t ignore, a part of her that screamed; ‘you should have held on. You should have been there’
She knows she should have been there. She knows she failed you before anyone else did. She knows. But she’s trying now and she doesn’t know how to get it to matter to the world. Trying won’t save you, and trying hasn’t led you back to her.
Trying has only led you there, far from Lena, laying somewhere unknown with a body and a heart too worn. Though, Lena imagines, that’s probably not a new feeling for you. She trembles with the image of Lex mocking her on video, holding a gun to your head, she trembles and thinks, I’ll kill him. I’ll kill him.
Then, miraculously;
“Found her!” Winn shouts loudly, raising his Supergirl action figure in victory, and Lena, CEO, multibillionaire, crumbles in relief in front of dozens of agents in the middle of the DEO.
—-
When you wake up Lena feels her heart stop.
She wanted to kiss you, hold you. She wanted to be the type of person that stayed. She wanted to be the type of person worth staying for.
She wanted to believe the both of you would be okay, and she wanted to hold your face and tell you that. That you’d be okay. She wanted more than anything in that moment to be the type of person that said the right thing. That did the right thing.
She wasn’t. She wasn’t any of the people she wanted to be. Your eyes met hers, full of sorrow, and human and hurt, and she wasn’t. She wasn’t because she was scared, and because she was human also. She wasn’t—so she leaves.
Now, as she’s gripping herself in the hallways of the DEO, struggling against the weight of what feels like worlds on her shoudlers, choking on breaths that should have been being shared with you, she’s filled with so much self contempt it could fuel the whole government. Whoever said that “It’s better to have loved and loss, than to have never loved at all”, has never met the two of you and has never loved this desperately.
Loving you made her feel just as much as losing you had, and is it worth it? Maybe, but It’s certainly not better to be feeling this than not ever feeling it. Can’t those things coexist? Can’t it be better for her to never love, but can’t loving also be a choice she’d make despite all the pain?
Can’t you love the things that will destroy us in the end? Doesn’t she always?
She should go back in. She should go back in and ask for forgiveness, but the fear of ruining things further, of the both of you hurting each other further, prevents her from trying to fix things.
When she broke up with you she had just wanted to protect you from Lex. Losing you like that would have nothing compared to—
Lena shivers, shakes her head, and clutches onto herself more tightly with trembling fingers.
“You’re hyperventilating,” Alex says from where she’s leaning against the wall beside Lena. Her eyes are watchful, careful, but Lena feels them like daggers.
She straightens, forces out a; “wow, you really are an amazing analyzer, detective,” and nearly gets a smirk for her troubles—but Alex is too soft, too caring to give her that. She moves towards her, ever the big sister, but Supergirl rushes in first.
“Lena,” Supergirl—Kara, Kara, Lena thinks, and often starts to forget, except when Kara looks at her like this—breathes out.
Lena steps back from them both, the humanity in the room tears her apart, reminds her of her lack of, and destroys her. “You have to…to warn people when you do that…super speed thing,” Lena grits out, cutting Kara off before she can even begin to try and be…be good. She gestures towards the room with shaky hands and begins to try and compose herself lHow long was she awake while I was asleep?”
Kara and Alex look at each other. Say nothing. “Guys—”
“She woke up two hours ago,” Alex says, at the same time Kara says; “you were wiped out—didn’t even hear the nurses, of course we couldn’t just wake you up”
Two hours, and she was asleep. Lena goes cold instantly. She remembers hearing Lex had you, remembers it like one remembers the worst moment of their life; both intimately and not at all. She remembers hearing Supergirl had you—that you were breathing , but people only say that when someone is very not okay, and Lena remembers the way adrenaline had rushed through her. She had felt both alive and utterly useless through it, and it sticks to her even now.
Alive, but asleep, never the person she needs to be to protect you. How alone have you felt because of her? How scared?
“Lena,” Kara starts again, “Lena, she wanted you to sleep— ”
“Go in there,” Alex cuts her off, gets a very annoyed look for it, because they both can’t seem to help cutting each other off today. “You want to show her she’s not alone, that she’s safe? I promise you that the only way she’ll feel that is with you there.”
Kara nods, suddenly straightening and transforming into Supergirl just like that, just in the stance. “Hero complexes will serve nothing except separation and loneliness. You taught me that. Stronger together, Lena.”
Wanting to save you had left you alone, and yes, alone to Lena meant away from Lex, but he’s not the only scary thing in this world, and she should have known that he’d never forget how to destroy her. To leave you alone, Lena thinks, was the worst thing she could have done.
While you were away Lena had to confront herself. Had to realize that so far, every good thing in her life has come with a cost, has led to ruin, and the threat of Lex…it had just seemed to her like the time had come. Like it was her only option. To sacrifice, to sacrifice and hurt.
If Lex had won by separating the two of you, then he had one like that. In her mind, Lena had already been destroyed, of course she imagined that to be the end of it, that he wouldn’t touch you. She’d rather hurt by pushing you away than you dying. Even the thought—
God, she’s so tired of being a coward. To being so scared of losing you that she’s willing to destroy you both.
Kara and Alex hating what she’s done in the unspoken way that they do hurts even more in a way Lena’s used to, because it hurts like regret. Their stances have turned from concerned and loving, to protective heroes. She should have never left you alone. Not when she was scared of Lex, and not now. She gives both Kara and Alex a firm nod and tries to walk past to get into the room. To make things right.
Kara stops her with a hand on her shoulder. She drops it instantly when Lena turns towards her. Ever the fragile hero, always afraid of her own hands for the strength they hold. “Before that…” Kara coughs awkwardly, “Um…we need you to understand her injuries…and what happened.”
—-
When Lena walks into the room, it’s not like you thought she would. She’s not the fragile human curled up in a chair, or the terrified women fleeing your medical room. She’s angry with rage and a whirlwind of feelings, caught in a tornado of emotion. She’s large in the way she’s always been, and yet it has never left you feeling so small.
You sink back into your hospital bed, pull the covers to your chin, and watch her.
“You went after him?” Lena hisses out, so lowly, so sharply, that she might as well have cut the words into your skin for the way that it dig into you. “Everything I’ve ever done is to protect you, and you just decided to throw it all away like it means nothing? Do you have any idea—”
“You were protecting yourself!”
Lena stops. She was pacing, shaking with emotion, but she stops dead in her tracks at the sound of your voice. You yell it, and yet it’s still somehow silent. Your throat is ruined, a testament to the cruelty of Lex, and the evidence of that and more is written on your skin. You’re covered in injuries. Your brokenness has never been more visible, you think, and it should leave you feeling fragile, and it does, god it does, but right now it gives you power.
Power over Lena, who looks at you like her life hangs in the palm of her hand.
“You think I’m stupid, that I don’t know that every fiber of your being is laced with fear?” You whisper now, hand on your throbbing throat. “You left me for you, and I went after Lex for me.” Its venom. Venom, and anger, and all of the thing you know Lena takes In stride. The thing she strives on.
It hangs in the air for a second. Then Lena, beautiful Lena, kneels by the side of your bed. CEO, one of the most powerful people in this city; on her knees for you. She doesn’t look invigorated, doesn’t looked fueled by anger, just looks sad with regrets.
“I did it for me,” Lena agrees, so soft, so not like them; not like her family. “I did it for you, too. Of course I did it for you, and maybe it was a terrible thing to do—led by my trauma talking to me—but don’t lay there and deny I wasn’t thinking of you,” she breathes, then pauses, eyes tracing your busted lips, bruised face, bruised neck. Her jaw trembles and her lips part, she looks as if she wants to say more, but her eyes are haunted by the home she grew up in.
As if reading your mind Lena whispers, “they haunt me. It’s as if I can never let go. I’m so sick of it. I’m so sick of it.” She closes her eyes with furrowed brows, as if not looking at you will prevent the shake in her voice. “I’m so sorry, Y/N. For them. For them now, for them back then, and for them in the future—if you still want to be in my life, you have to know I can’t escape them. Even when they’re not there they’re there. It…god, it makes me sick.”
When Lena raises her hands and grips herself, digging her fingers into her skin like she wants to pull the trauma and memories out of herself, like she wants to get rid of them, something in you breaks. Breaks because your arms are raw and aching, and it wasn’t Lex. Breaks because you know so intimately what it’s like to face reality and find it so frustratingly unchangeable. To want so much, and for it to mean nothing is the most devastating thing.
To be so large, and so small.
You’ve been crying, and Lena doesn’t notices until a sob falls from your lips. You’ve been trying to hold it in, but when she startles up at it and looks at you with that same wanting, like you’re her heart walking and she’d give anything to take your hurt, the sobs break through like a dam. They break through and it hurts because there is no part of you left unbroken.
When you sob it disturbs your broken ribs, disturbs the bruises covering your torso, rips at your tarnished vocal cords, and has the machines in the room beeping so loud it alerts the nurses.
—-
Lena doesn’t even have time to stand before the nurses rush in and pull the blanket off of you. There’s no words to describe the shift that happens in side of her when she sees the extent of your injuries.
It’s like something both breaks and rebuilds in her, and then breaks again, paralyzing her. Then, she sees a nurse heading towards you with a syringe and it activates her.
“Don’t fucking touch her,” Lena says, or thinks she says. She can’t recognize the venom in her voice, doesn’t feel apart of her body.
She’s moving in between the nurse and you, but your sobs begin to bring her back to reality.
“She needs to be put under, she’s hurting herself—”
Lena doesn’t pay attention to her, just sees Alex and Supergirl enter the room. Sees the way Alex shakes her head and nods to the corner of the room, and follows in suit while every fiber of her being says to do otherwise.
It kills her that she can’t protect you. Can’t protect you from the nurses that you try to pull away from, can’t protect you from the hurt on your skin, or in your heart, couldn’t protect you from— she thinks of Lex. Lex when he was her big, smart older brother that she admired more than anyone in the world.
She thinks of the way he’d give her a cheeky roll of his eyes behind Lillian’s back after a small verbal lashing. Thinks of every chess game, every hide n seek game, every reassuring grin. You’re smarter than they know Lena, he’d say, and she’d beam, not noticing the progressive darkness in his eyes as he said it.
Her eyes don’t leave you as the nurses put you down again. She thinks; I’ll kill him. In her peripheral she knows Kara is watching the floor, and feels Alex watching her. When the nurses cover you back up and they both turn towards you, Lena knows it was out of respect for you. She’s grateful for it—somewhere in her thunder of emotions she’s thankful for them, but also feels a bit of anger towards them.
This is why they kept her from seeing you when you were brought in?
“Why doesn’t she have a hospital gown?” Lena asks in a whisper.
“She took it off, said it hurt when the nurses moved it, and that it was sticking to her. Constricting her,” Kara explains, she sighs, shakes her head, and then turns towards Lena as Supergirl. With a fire in her eyes.
The same one in Lena as she allows herself to ask the very question she wanted to run from hours ago. “Where’s Lex?”
“No.” It’s both Supergirl and Alex.
“Alive then? Okay,” Lena starts towards the door. “If you’re here, he’s here. I’ll find him easily enough.”
Supergirl, familiarly, stands in her ways. Eyes sympathetic next to Alex’s hardness. “Where are you when you’re with them?” Alex asks from behind her. When you let them guide every bad decision you make, she hears.
Lena stops. Thinks about control, about gods, about leaving you to wake up alone again, thinks about murder, both in her blood and not, thinks about Lex with a gun to your head, with fists, and kicks, and a maniac smile, thinks about her dad in the same way—standing over Lex while Lillian gripped Lena back. She thinks of cycles, thinks of protection and all the ways it’s possible, all the ways she’s capable, more capable then him.
Smarter, Lena remembers Lillian saying casually. Always smarter than.
Better than, Kara will say.
The good one, Alex will joke.
My hero, you’d grin. Lena feels herself split. Starts forward again.
Kara whispers now, “Heroes don’t kill, Lena.”
Alex, “it’s both the best and most terrible thing about us.”
Us.
Lena wants to yell, wants to crumble, wants to curl by your side, wants to kill Lex with her bare hands, wants to erase the Luthor history from her mind, from her body, wants to erase it from yours even more. Wants it so desperately, so acutely it hurts. Sadness fills the room, suffocates them all.
Kara is watching you again, Alex keeps glancing back, they’re both unconcerned about Lena now. Full faith in her to be who they claim she is. Lena returns to the seat by your bed and allows herself to be that person.
“Whatever cell he’s in, I’m building it,” Lena whispers, thinking of the cuffs she’ll put on him, wondering if she can somehow slow down his mind.
Alex nods, running her hands down her face. The past couple hours have completely exhausted her in a way Lena’s not used to seeing from her. Alex cares so much about you, and it shouldn’t surprise Lena but It does. “We’re thinking about sending him to the phantom zone.”
Here, Lena is more surprised. They must know that’s a death sentence. Lena glances at Supergirl, she’s still watching you but she’s clearly listening, her eyes have turned hard. They aren’t underestimating Lex. They clearly know the responsibility that’ll bear on them if he escapes again.
Lena feels another bought of gratitude towards them as she takes your hand, and trusts them to handle the person she trusts no one to handle.
——
When you wake up the second time it’s because nurses are dapping you with wet cloths, clearly trying to clean you. They apologize profusely, say they thought the drugs would keep you down longer, and offer to finish the cleaning after you’ve gotten more pain killers.
Your eyes dart around rapidly, chest constricting in anxiety, and then you see Lena. She’s standing by the door, clearly trying to keep out of the nurses way. She’s not full of rage and untouchable in that way, and she’s not fragile, she’s strong.
Her eyes are hard, but not cold. They’re determined, and loving, and they’re your strength too. You suck in a shaky breath, whisper; “thank you. Later might be an option”, as you try to focus on Lena and not the thought of the nurses hands on you turning into Lex’s violent ones.
When they all shuffle out Lena quietly returns to the spot by your bed. This Lena somehow makes you feel more fragile than angry, furious Lena had, because in the place of your defensiveness you’re left to feel your guilt.
“I’m…I’m not weak, Lena.” It feels stupid to claim now as you lay in a hospital bed feeling nothing but. You clench your jaw. Lena’s hand reaches up and takes your chin, forcing you to meet her eyes. She’s not gentle, certainly not rough, but her firmness gives you the power to continue. She’s the stable ground that helps you find your footing.
You find it. Meet her gaze unblinking. “I’m not Supergirl, I’m not you, I’m not Alex, or Jon, or Winn, or James, or Kelly, or— or Lex…I’m not capable in the particular ways you guys are, but I am capable.”
Lena’s eyes fall to your throat. You grip her wrist, the one holding your face, and her eyes meet yours apologetically. “I know,” she says, so softly, so quietly. “You being here is the evidence of it, isn’t it?”
You nod, but you aren’t done. “I’m not sure what Supergirl told you. Clearly she told you I went after Lex, and in a way that’s true, but more so I wanted him to come after me,” you pause. Lena is watching you with furrowed eyes, clearly trying to piece together what you’re explaining before you finish.
Her lips part after just another moment. She’s figured it out you realize, feeling a bit of pride because of it. Pride because she has faith in you, pride because she‘s so incredibly quick and you have had the privilege to know her so acutely. “All of this…was your plan?” Lena asks, sounding both shocked and not.
You wince, brushing aside her hand so you can look down, adverting your gaze. “Well…not all of it.” Memories flash through your mind. “I thought he’d keep me captive, not…” you left out a frustrated breath, angry, so angry at yourself for not being able to speak about it. Speak about him.
“It was a game to him, of course. He’d torture me, send you a video to torture you. He’d get you chasing him. He’s always liked the thrill.” Your eyes stay on Lena’s fists. Watch as they clench so tightly to her side that they shake. “I knew he loved messing with you, and was partly counting on it, not like that but— but maybe just having me wouldn’t have been enough, maybe it was good he did what he did—got so high off of it his guard lowered.”
“Don’t say that,” Lena pleads. You startle up at the sound of her trembling voice doing everything not to cry.
You breathe in; your ribs hurt. You breathe out; they hurt again. Lena shakes her head at herself, frustrated and biting her lip. She’s having a battle with composure and losing.
“Kara told me how you stole his nanotech and used it to immobilize him. That the tech that was missing from my lab last week was found with the stuff he confiscated from you. That you hacked his computer with my prototype to send her the location to his headquarters underground,” Lena rushes out, “I didn’t know you planned to get taken to his HQ, to steal his nanotech, didn’t know that anyone besides me and the DEO knew what he was working on.”
It’s a quick summary of the things you’ve done, leaving out the weeks of planning, leaving out the struggles of actually setting the plan in motion when the shifting variables shifted in a way you weren’t prepared for. It should leave you proud, but when you think of what you managed all you remember is pain and struggle.
“You stopped Lex like you planned. So many people are saved because of you. An unfathomable amount, and yet,”she says. And yet, you think, heart fluttering because you know Lena will say the very thought that kills you to think of, but the thought that can’t escape you anyways. “What…what you did was monumental, and thank you, but god, I so wish you hadn’t,” Lena breathes. “He gone, and yet he has never been so present. Perhaps you felt the effects of him through me before, but you know now what it’s like to have him really present, always right over your shoulder, and that…I would’ve given the world for otherwise.”
It’s exactly the same thoughts you have had. To hear it from Lena, someone you admire and trust so much, someone you believe to be good with every piece of you, someone you’d follow everywhere—it’s like a medicine for guilt.
“What I said before…about doing what I did for me,” Lena shakes her head, ever understanding, like she doesn’t need you to finish. You do though. “I did it for me because I wanted desperately for you to still be mine, and getting rid of Lex was the avenue for that,” you admit. “I didn’t want him to plague you anymore either.”
You hesitate. Memories of Lena pacing at night—startling awake, watching the news with the grimness of someone attending a funeral—memories of Lena’s affectedness come to you. Her humaneness at hearing Lex escaped again, and in her humanity in her vulnerability.
“I want to take responsibility, so I don’t want to say I did it for you, but what you said earlier made me realize everything is a bit of both. I did it for me, I did it for you too.”
Lena laughs. Laughs. It shocks you, causes you to jump and stop looking at your hand, causes you to meet her gaze again. “Ow,” you growl, unamused, because Lena is still laughing. She’s covering her face and has the decency to look apologetic.
Your ribs hurt from the startle but even you can’t help but be confusedly amused.
“I want to hate,” Lena starts, mirth in her voice, “that you did the thing I wanted you to do least in the world, and you got exactly what you wanted out of it. You captured lex, and in a way captured me back too.”
“Oh,” you perk up, smiling up at Lena innocently. “Guess I’m the brains now, brawn.”
Lena’s eyes narrow at you. “That insinuates that you were ever the brawn.”
Back to glaring. Lena lets out another huff of laughter and brushes your hair back, away from a cut on your forehead. Her eyes are so soft, so full of warmth, and love that you could cry. Would cry, perhaps, if it wouldn’t hurt every part of your body.
Instead you grin, because that’s what humans are taught to do instead of cry, and ask, gently—feeling like a shaky child; “does that mean you’re my girlfriend again?”
—-
Lena’s eyes widen as she realizes what she implied, and as you own up to it so hesitantly, so childlike, like Lena could ever think of pushing you away after everything. Her words, not for the first time today, betray her. All she can do is nod.
Your responding grin is heroin to Lena. You smile so wide the cut on your lip breaks open again and starts bleeding, but you pay it no mind. Lena does. She smiles back, albeit more gently, and squishes your cheeks together to prevent the split widening.
You pout in her hands. Lena’s heart flutters. She keeps getting hit randomly with momentous emotion, and she’s hit again with it now. The softness of this moment feels like seeing a rainbow after months of storms.
You here, alive, looking at Lena with so much love in your eyes, so much understanding. It feels like a fantasy. Feels like a lucid dream, a dream she’d choose, over, and over again, until the end of time.
Lena leans in and kisses you—not on the lips, they are cut and bruised. She kisses you on the space just below your eye. A spot, one of the few spots, clear of visible injury. She takes pleasure in the way you flush like it’s the first time. She always did, will always do. “I love you,” Lena whispers, promising herself that even if there are days you won’t believe her, there will never be a day you don’t hear it.
It’s you, and it’s her, and it’s the mountains of history and trauma you two are fighting against. Lena likes the both of your odds. Loves winning just as much.
You’ll beat Lex she knows. There will be a day soon where he stops haunting the two of you. Where he’s not even a thought. When that time comes you’ll have won the war, but for now she’ll take the pride of winning every battle in stride, for now, in the now; she’ll cherish every moment, the many moments, when trauma leaves the room and love consumes it.
“Lena Luthor,” you breathe. You breathe. “My love, my hero.”

When Kara arrived to your apartment, she found you safe and asleep in your bed.
Some days passed and you just kept getting worst and worst. It got to a point where you didn't get out of bed except for emergency, and it took everything in you to just take a step without falling. You were nauseous, dizzy, really weak and your still healing wounds were hurting more than usual. Sometimes you were so cold, and sometimes you felt like you were in a volcano.
“Alex?” You ask when you woke up and saw your sister. “ Hmm?” She said, closing her book and placing it in her lap. “I really don't feel good.” You say. Her expression quickly changed. “What do you mean, what's wrong?” “Everything hurts and I feel so weak.” You say, tears brimming your eyes. “Alright, how long have you felt like this?” Alex asked. “A week.” You said closing your eyes to try to get rid of the dizziness.
“Hon, please don't fall asleep, I know you must be tired, but I have some questions.” Ales asked in a soft voice, she placed her hand on your forehead to see if you were hot, and unfortunately you were really hot. “Shit, you're really hot.” She says. “Alright, do you feel like throwing up?” You nodded your head. “Kind of.” “Ok what do you say we bring you back to the D.E.O, it could be nothing, but I prefer not to take risk.” She said, and you agreed.
You were back at the D.E.O, hook up to many machines, with Alex taking care of you and Kara at your bed side, with the same worried expression. “Do you feel a little better.” Kara asked. You gave her a little nod, the frown on her face deepen as she saw how unwell you still were.
“Alex, can I talk to you?” J'onn ask entering the room. “I'll be right back.” Alex said giving you a kiss on your forehead. “I just saw the footage of the Alien escaping, and I think i sort of know where he went.” Alex frown. “What do you mean 'kind of know'?”
“Well, a little before you join the D.E.O, I had this weird dream, but now I don't think it was a dream.” Alex nodded, signalling j'onn to keep going. “I woke up in a building in the middle of New work. I won't go into too many details, but I met people there, they were superhero sort of. They called themselves the Avengers.” Alex scoffed. “The Avengers? That's a… original name for a team.” Alex said. J'onn then went on by explaining what everyone did and what happened when he was there. “Ok, but how is that related to the alien's location.” Alex asks. “Well, Doctor Strange, the wizard, he can teleport by creating these circles that bring him wherever he wants. Those circles are the exact same as the on the alien when through. So now that we know the multiverse is real, I think it wasn't a dream, and somehow I travelled to another planet.” J'onn said.
“That makes sense, so now can we get there.” “I'm not sure, maybe the device that Cisco gave to Kara could travel us there.” J'onn suggested. “Maybe you're right, I'm going to try to look into it.”
A few days passed, and your condition just kept getting worse, you were exhausted all the time, you had lost all your appetite, and you threw up at least 3 times a day. Alex was so caught up with everything, she had barely enough time to take care of herself. She needed to take care of you, find the alien, find a cure for you and on top of that she needed to find the alien. Of course, she wasn't alone Kara helps with taking care of you, Lena with finding the cure and brainy help tracking the alien down, but it was still a lot.
Kara walking in Alex quarters, she saw Alex sat on a bench staring at the wall. “Alex?” Kara asked, braking Alex out of the trans she was in. “Mhm? What?” "Are you ok?” Kara asked, Alex took a deep breath and nodded. “Yeah… yeah, I'm fine.” “You know, you're a really bad liar sometimes.” Alex gave a small smile and place her head in her hands, starting to tear up. “Come on, tell me what's wrong.” Kara said, placing her hand around her sister to comfort her.
“It's just… I know everyone is telling me it's not my fault, but I really feel like it is and having to take care of Y/N on top of being the director having to deal with everything it's just a lot. And I'm really worried about them and what if they die, I don't think I could ever forgive myself.” She said tears falling. Kara hugged Alex tightly and rubbed her back. “Alex, why didn't you tell me. You know you're not alone, you have Winn Lena J'onn Brainy and you have me. You know what, I think you should go home tonight, and before you argue J'onn is just as qualified as you to take care of the D.E.O and me and Lena can take care of Y/N.” Alex hesitates for a minute but agreed, “fine, but you have to call me if there is anything wrong.” “Of course.” Alex went home, and she could finally get some much-needed sleep, and everything went smoothly all night with you and the D.E.O.
Although it was the last thing she wanted, Alex had no choice but to call Eliza when your condition didn't improve. The look on her when she saw you laying in the D.E.O's med bay hooked up to so many machines was one of pure worry. “Oh god, sweetheart, you look so bad.” Eliza said, coming to your side. “Thank you.” you said barely above a whisper. Your mother place a comforting hand on your forehead and when she did, she noticed how hot it was.
“God, they are burning up, how long have they been this way?” She questioned. “Um, maybe like a week, they have only been getting worst since we brought them here.” Alex said just as worried. “ What's wrong with them?” Eliza asked, “Well that's part of the reason we called you, we don't know yet.” Alex said.
You were slowly falling asleep whilst your mother and big sisters talked, You were half of sleep when your stomach turned. You groan and slapped your hand over your mouth, you frantically looked around for Kara. She noticed your panicked state and quickly gave you the bucket, she sat you up and pulled your hair back. “Alright, let it all out, it's ok.”
When you were done throwing up, you laid back down. “I'm sorry.” You muttered exhausted. “Don't apologize, honey, it's not your fault at all.” Your mother said soothingly. After that, you fell asleep for a while.

Forgotten, Not Forgiven - Chapter 5
Still reeling from finding out the truth herself, Lena suddenly finds herself in the midst of an odd role reversal in which she knows that Kara is Supergirl, but Kara no longer has any idea she has ever been more than an ordinary human. And what’s more, Lena has no choice but to keep the truth from her for her own protection…
Rift era reconciliation/fix-it fic, starts out kind of on the angsty side but there will be more fluff down the line.
This and previous chapters are also on AO3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Al’s.
It wasn’t where Lena had imagined this conversation taking place, and she honestly would have preferred to meet at the DEO headquarters, or her own office. Somewhere that set a clear boundary that this was a work collaboration, not a personal one. But Alex hadn’t exactly left room for negotiation before she’d ended the call, and, well, the glass of wine it gave her an excuse to drink was not unwelcome, though she did plan on taking it slow. Easing the tension was one thing, but becoming sloppy right now would be unacceptable.
She was a couple of sips in when Alex dropped down in the seat across from her, a pint in one hand and a basket of onion rings in the other.
Lena raised an eyebrow, and Alex grimaced back.
‘I didn’t have time for lunch today, okay?’
‘I didn’t say anything’.
‘Your face did’.
‘I’m not interested in your eating habits Alex, I want to know about Kara. Did anything show up in the tests?’
Alex nodded through a mouthful of onion and batter.
‘Yeah, I have them here’.
She pulled an unmarked cardboard file from her bag and slid it across the table, then hesitated, her hand still pressed down firmly to keep Lena from taking it.
‘If I share this with you, you can’t pull the same shit you did when we were trying to find her. You tell me everything you find the moment you find it. I want theories, vague hunches, wild goose chases, hell, if you so much have a dream about this, I want to know every single detail’.
‘Fine, but that goes both ways. I tell you everything I have, and you do the same’ -Lena paused, leaning forward over the table and tapping a finger on the closed folder for emphasis – ‘everything, Alex. No more hypocritical demands for openness while you keep your own cards close to your chest’.
‘That wasn’t my-’
Lena pursed her lips, challenging her to finish that sentence. This was a battle line drawn in the power balance of their working relationship, and Alex clearly knew it. She hesitated, glancing down at their outstretched hands where they both rested on the cover of the file, then back up at Lena, a faint frown on her face.
‘Look, it’s not that I don’t want to. But the DEO works with a lot of highly classified intel, and I just can’t promise you that’.
Not good enough.
The tip of Lena’s finger went white where it was pressing against the folder, her nail leaving a small indentation in the cardboard, but she kept her voice level and calm, as if she was arguing contract wording in a business arrangement. Polite but firm. Not aggressive, but not giving an inch either.
‘I’m not asking to see the Alien Registry or schematics for your latest weapons designs. Keep whatever else you want to yourself, but if we’re working together on this, then we share all pertinent information both ways. If you want my help, those are my terms’.
Their eyes locked in a brief struggle, but Lena neither blinked nor looked away, the jut of her chin conveying (or so she hoped) that she was perfectly willing to walk away right now if this condition was not met. She might have agreed to help, but she would never again allow herself to be forced into being a convenient little lacky that the DEO could call on whenever they felt like it and drop the minute they didn’t need her anymore. She was done with being lied to and kept in the dark.
At last the set of Alex’s shoulders dropped from defensive to acceptance, and her free hand reached up absently to run through her hair, pushing imaginary strands out her face like she needed to brush the feeling of Lena’s glare off her skin.
‘Alright, it’s a deal. But I’m gonna have to get you to sign an NDA, we’re under enough scrutiny right now as it is’.
‘Fine. You too. Some of my research is still at the highly confidential experimental stage, and the fact that I might use it to help with this does not mean I want it to be public knowledge’.
Lets keep things fair this time, shall we?
‘Seriously? I’m not going to leak your research Lena’.
‘And I’m not going to leak yours, but here we are’.
There was a moment when Lena thought they might be about to tip into another fight, but in the end Alex just rolled her eyes and nodded.
‘Yeah, fair enough. Write something up and I’ll sign it’.
‘Good’. Now that the first battle was won, Lena allowed herself to relax by a few degrees, sitting back in her chair and taking another small sip of her drink. ‘Speaking of which-’
She pulled the gadget she’d brought out of her purse and placed it in the centre of the table, activating it with a quick twist. It lit up with a faint blue glow which expanded rapidly outwards to encompass the table and the two of them, then faded to nothing, leaving the device apparently inert once more.
‘Okaaay... what the hell is that?’
‘It’s a prototype for an auditory scrambler I’ve been working on. It has no effect on what we can hear coming in, but will keep anyone outside of our immediate vicinity from being able to make out what we’re saying, without anything as obvious as a bubble of artificial silence. Given where we were meeting I thought I’d better bring it along’.
Alex stared at the unassuming black box, assessing and, perhaps, a little bit impressed.
‘Well that’s why I got us this table way off in the back corner. But yeah this is better. If that thing works it would be really useful to have a few at the DEO’.
‘That is another conversation, and not what we’re here for right now’.
Dream on, Alex.
‘Right, yeah, sorry’.
At last Alex seemed to realise that she was still holding onto the file between them, and withdrew her hand to allow Lena to pick it up.
Finally.
She flipped through the thick wodge of notes and test results it contained, skimming briefly through a page of negative read outs for various types of foreign chemicals in Kara’s saliva and urine samples, then turning to the brain scans.
The MRI was first and looked normal enough, though with a few minor variations compared to human images Lena had seen.
‘I assume the differences I’m seeing here are due to Kara’s Kryptonian anatomy rather than anything Lex did?’
‘Yep, totally as expected. We’ve scanned Kara before so we can be sure of that’.
Lena nodded and turned to the CT scan, then the EEG. Again, a slightly different set up to a human brain but nothing alarming.
And then-
‘Did something go wrong with this one? A hair on the lens or something?’
Alex had clearly been waiting for her to get to this page, and didn’t even need to glance at the image to know what Lena was looking at.
‘No, I checked and redid the scan twice. I even scanned my own brain just to be sure there wasn’t something weird in the machinery that I wasn’t picking up. It’s legit’.
‘Well… wow’.
‘I know, it’s crazy, right?’
‘I’ve never seen anything like it. The whole area is completely dark, and the margins-’
‘Like someone went in there and drew it on with a marker’.
Lena traced the winding path of the shape that cut through Kara’s brain, curving back and forth so that it passed through almost every key area to form a wide, dark S.
‘We might really have something here, something we can use. What sort of a scan is this? I don’t think I’ve seen a readout quite like this before’.
‘It’s something new we’ve been working on with Q-waves’.
‘How does it work?’
‘The details are classified Lena, I can’t tell you more than that’.
The paper creased at the edges as Lena’s grip tightened on the printout. Who did Alex think was doing who a favour here exactly?
‘What were we just saying about sharing everything?’
‘And I will. But this is about DEO tech, it’s not directly related to Kara’s case’.
‘It could be. Nothing at all showed up on the other scans, but there’s something different about this one. If I know how it works, maybe I can use it as a starting point to design a device that could not only detect the barrier, but start breaking it down without triggering the fail safe’.
They stared each other down for a long moment, and then Alex broke eye contact to take a sip of her beer, and shrugged.
‘Fine, I’ll send you the schematic. After you’ve signed your NDA. I might be Director but I can’t just do whatever I like you know’.
Lena tutted, but did her best to smooth the rumpled edges of the Q-wave scan before slipping it back into the folder and turning to the next page.
‘Whatever, go ahead and jump through your hoops, just get it to me quickly. What else have you found?’
‘Not much honestly. Blood work all normal. Her powers seem to be blocked off along with her memories of Supergirl, so no accidental heat vision or super hearing, and she can get hurt, so we’ll need to watch out for that. Cognitive tests were all normal too, apart from the obvious. She feels fine as Kara, but it’s like Supergirl is just a work acquaintance she vaguely knows but hasn’t seen in a while’.
‘I suppose that makes sense. Her mind would need to come up with some explanation for all those exclusive interviews she turned in at Catco – they’re out there now, so it’s not like she can just forget they ever happened’.
‘That’s what I thought. The one other thing we were really hopeful for was when Brainy went back into her Mind Space before she woke up to see if he could help her-’
‘Wait, back up a minute. Her Mind Space?’
‘Oh, right, you weren’t in the loop yet then. It happened when she was in a coma after Reign attacked her, Brainy was able to go in after her to try and wake her up. Mind Space is- I guess kind of like a dream, or a metaphor or something? It’s 31st century alien technology, don’t ask me how it works. Anyway, last time he said it was like Kara’s apartment, only the front door was locked and she couldn’t get out. That was the coma. It was different this time – the front door was open, but there was a new door at the back – like the door to a serious maximum security prison – a foot of steal with cross bars and a million padlocks, totally locked up tight’.
Lena leaned forwards, interested enough to forget that she was annoyed with Alex.
‘Okay, not great, but it’s a start. If there’s a door there must be a way to get through it’.
‘Yeah that’s what he hoped too, but it was like Kara couldn’t even see it. Every time he tried to get her to look where it was the door would move so it was behind her again, and the place it had been would just be a blank wall. He couldn’t even get her to go to that part of the room, and she didn’t seem to notice at all’.
‘Just like Lex said, her mind is fighting to keep the two parts separate. Still, it could be something to explore further. What about-’
‘Hey Alex! I was in the diner across the street and saw you come in here, so I thought I’d drop in to see if you wanted to meet up later’.
Lena turned instinctively towards the voice, and locked eyes with none other than Kara Danvers herself.
Her glass of wine very nearly spilled as she jerked in her seat, unsure if she was trying to turn away from Kara or get up and flee the room altogether, so that in the end she did neither, and the two of them remained frozen in a moment balanced on a knife edge.
A single slip in any direction, and one of them would bleed.
She swallowed against the sudden dryness in her throat, trying to remember how to breath. Somehow it had been almost easier when Kara was unconscious – at least then she had known how to feel about it. But there was no time to figure that out, because now Kara’s eyes were flitting back and forth between Lena and Alex, and her expression had become one big question mark as she tried to work out exactly what she had just walked in on.
Lena pushed aside her own inner turmoil as best she could and took the opportunity of Kara’s distraction to flip the file of test results closed and slide it casually off the table into her lap, before reaching over to disable the auditory scrambler.
Whatever else happened, Kara could not be allowed to realise that they were here because of her.
‘I didn’t know you two were… ahh… hanging out?’
‘We’re not’.
They said it simultaneously, and too fast. If anything Kara looked even more puzzled than before.
‘Oh?’
‘Lena’s helping the DEO out with a project that could use her science expertise, that’s all. We were in a planning meeting and had some things to finish hashing out, and it was getting late. You know I can’t concentrate when I’m hangry, so we came here to get something to eat’.
Alex gestured to the half empty basket of onion rings, as if that proved the story rather than raising more questions.
‘Oh, that’s… that’s great. What’s the project? Can I help?’
This time Alex looked stumped, and Lena jumped in before the pause got too obvious.
‘You know how I work Kara. It’s still all top secret at the moment, but I promise, as soon as there’s anything ready to take public I’ll give you the exclusive’.
It was the kind of thing she had said all the time before, and yet for some reason Kara was staring at her, apparently stunned by the offer.
‘Wait, really?’
‘Of course, why wouldn’t I?’
‘Well, I just thought… after our fight, and then you sold Catco… I didn’t think you’d want to work with me again’.
Kara knew about their fight?
Lena had assumed, given what they had fought about, that Kara wouldn’t remember it at all, but clearly her mind had filled in the blank of the subject matter while retaining their falling out. She should really have anticipated that, but with everything else going on she hadn’t given the matter enough thought, and now she didn’t know what to say.
What did Kara think they had fought about, if not Supergirl?
She cleared her throat awkwardly, trying to regain some semblance of composure.
‘Yes, well… you going missing forced me to look at things in a new light. I may have… overreacted before. If you’d be willing, I’d like to try and start putting it behind us’.
Kara’s entire face lit up, and the sight of it made Lena feel raw and numb at the same time, the radiant warmth of her smile searing the very skin from her bones to leave only the bleeding essence of her, vulnerable and exposed despite all the armour she had tried to forge for herself these past few months.
‘Yes! Definitely yes, I would love that. Maybe… we could meet for lunch some time?’
She wasn’t sure she could do this.
But she had to. She had to. She had to. The stakes were too high not to at least try.
‘Sure Kara, I’ll give you a call’.
‘Amazing. Fantastic. I’ll see you soon then. Oh- and Alex, text me later if you want to hang out? I was thinking pizza and a movie?’
‘Yeah, sure. I might be a while though, we still have some stuff to finish here’.
‘That’s fine, I don’t think I’ll be sleeping til late tonight anyway’.
‘Alright, I’ll text you when we’re done’.
‘Bye Kara’.
They waited, watching in silence until the door had closed behind Kara and she had been gone long enough to be fairly confident that she wasn’t going to pop back in, then Lena rounded on Alex.
‘You let her follow you?’
‘I didn’t let her. She was supposed to be at home! I can’t tie her to the radiator to keep her inside Lena-’
‘That’s weak and you know it. How the hell have you made it this long as a secret agent if you can’t even keep your little sister from following you? Kara’s a reporter Alex, we can’t let her catch even a hint of this or she’ll start digging and she won’t stop, and that could literally kill her’.
‘Hey, you think I don’t know that? It was a mistake, it won’t happen again. And it’s fine, she doesn’t suspect anything’.
‘Yet. She doesn’t suspect anything yet. We are clearly going to have to put some ground rules in place to stop this kind of thing happening again. Code names, file encryptions, plausible reasons for meeting up, not to mention plausible places for meeting up – and it will have to be on a strictly need to know basis. Anyone who knows who Supergirl is will have to be in on part of it of course, but full details should only be shared with people who are actively working on her case. The fewer people know, the safer this will be’.
Alex stared back at her, eyebrows raised and seeming entirely unchastened by the scolding. If anything, there was a hint of smugness in the curl of her lip, and Lena scowled back at her as she replayed the last part of what she’d said in her mind. She huffed.
‘Oh shut up, this is different’.
‘I didn’t even say anything!’
‘You were thinking it very loudly’.
‘So I’m not even allowed to think n-’
Lena held up a hand to stop the budding argument before it could go any further. They were here for a single purpose, and it was not to bicker like children, no matter how tempting it was to keep venting all the confused feelings seeing Kara had stirred up in her. This was business, and emotions had no place in business.
‘First things first. Change my name in your phone’.
‘What? Why? Kara knows we’re working together now’.
‘Yes, but that excuse is only going to take us so far. This will be safer- actually, no don’t. Kara knows my number, if she saw that under someone else’s name it would look even worse. Use this one instead, and give it a different name’.
Lena scribbled down the number, careful to make her handwriting look as unlike her own as she could to avoid it leading back to her if Kara came across the paper in Alex’s things.
‘I will use that number to contact you for anything relating to our work, and continue to use my regular cell for anything to do with the cover story. You do the same’.
‘Okay, but I don’t have a second phone number’.
‘That doesn’t matter. I am a well known public figure and I like my privacy – my phone is pretty much unhackable, and besides I have software set up that will allow me to assign you an alias name and number. It’s not a problem’.
Alex nodded, tapping the number Lena had given her into her phone.
‘What do you want your alias to be?’
‘I really don’t care. Whatever you like as long as it’s not obviously traceable to me’.
‘Okay then, you’re… Lulu’.
‘Lulu? Seriously?’
‘Hey, you said anything! Luthor. Lu. Lulu. It was all I could think of! Besides, it’s kind of perfect because there is no way in hell Kara would ever believe you’d let me call you Lulu’.
‘With good reason. But fine, okay, Lulu it is’.
Alex chuckled as she saved the name and popped the last of her onion rings into her mouth. She chewed in silence for a while, tracing patterns in a puddle of spilled beer before broaching the question she had clearly been weighing up in her mind.
‘So… Kara knows you had a fight. What does she think it’s about, if not Supergirl?’
‘I have no idea. I could hardly ask, could I? I just had to go with it and hope for the best’.
‘And… did you mean what you told her? About wanting to put it behind you and move forwards?’
Lena opened her mouth to tell Alex to mind her own damn business, but then hesitated. If they were going to work together and keep Kara from getting suspicious, she supposed they needed to be on the same page about this. Still, she took a large swallow of wine before replying, trying to work out what she wanted to say, and how much she was willing to admit.
‘If I’m going to be able to help Kara I need to be close enough to her that she’ll let me do it, and the more comfortable she feels opening up to me the easier that will be. I did mean it when I said that all this has made me see things from a different perspective. But- look, the fact that Kara doesn’t remember what she did doesn’t mean she didn’t do it. Amnesia is not a free pass’.
‘I know that, but surely now you’re on the other side of it you can see why it might be important to keep this kind of secret?’
‘As I said, I’ve gained some new perspective, but it’s still a false equivalence to compare the two situations. Besides, me being upset with Kara isn’t just about her keeping her identity a secret. It’s the fact that she would fight with me as Supergirl, then come over as Kara and spend time with me as if nothing happened. Alex, she went behind my back and got my boyfriend to break into my lab instead of trusting what I told her, or even asking me to show her myself. As Supergirl she acted as though I had betrayed her for keeping the smallest thing about my work to myself regardless of the intention behind it, and yet all that time she knew she was keeping this huge secret from me despite how often I had practically begged her not to lie to me. She did a lot of objectively pretty awful things, and I don’t know if I will ever be able to forgive her for them, or feel like we can be real friends again. But I’m not a monster. I still care what happens to her, and I am committed to helping her get the rest of her memories back. That’s the best I can do’.
Alex nodded slowly, frowning down into the dregs of her beer.
‘Yeah, I guess I see that. For what it’s worth though, I think you should try to forgive her. Kara made some mistakes, but she cares about you a lot, and she really misses having you as a friend’.
‘Respectfully Alex, I don’t want to hear that from you. It’s none of your business. I told you what I did so that you’ll know where we stand and that I’m in earnest about working with you on this, but beyond that, you don’t get to have an opinion on my friendship or lack thereof with your sister. I will work with you on this project because it’s the right thing to do, but that is the extent of our relationship’.
‘Fine. From here on out we will only talk about Operation Get Our Girl Back’.
‘We are NOT calling it that’.
I Could Kill Her!
This is part 1, this is part 2
mom!kara x adopted!daugther
Wanrings:
A/N: Y/n/n means "Your nickname". Reader is on the younger kid side!
Extra pairings:
Alex x niece & Eliza x granddaughter
Tumblr media
“Mom, I threw up.” You stand in front of her, the bathroom, lighting up your silhouette. “Mom?” Nudging her a bit, she fluttered her eyes open and asked what happened. “I threw up.” Your voice was raspy, the both of you could hear the sickness in it. Moving out of your moms way, she got up and left into the light of the blaring bathroom. Taking the opportunity to get into her bed, she came back out with a wash cloth,
“Do you feel hot?” Kara asked, thinking back to all the nights her older sister was sick and Eliza would be there to comfort her, not just that but make her feel better. She was almost always awake when this would happen, as she wanted to make sure her sister wasn’t in need of her own help. Now that the superhero had her own daughter, this information came in handy, but the kid hadn’t been so seriously sick since the adoption and moving in. You nodded your head, mumbling in agreement.
“My tummy hurts, too.” Kara wasn’t sure how to respond with something would psyhically help, “I’m sorry, honey, I know sleep will help.” You groan at her and turn over in her mother’s covers.
“No,” You whined, “it really hurts, mom.” Kara’s heart skipped a beat, from worry but also from guilt. She was always worried for her daughter, but Kara had never been sick here on Earth, she didn’t know how to specifically comfort her daughter, or even make her feel better like Eliza always had.
“You stay right here,” Kara laid the wash cloth on her daughter's forehead and moved out to her dark kitchen, ringing her sister.
“Alex, Y/n isn’t feeling well at all. She threw up, and I just don’t know how to make the sickness stop. You know I’ve never been sick. I need some help. Call me back, thanks.” Stopping the voice message, she took a second thinking about who could help her at a time like this.
“Kara, what are you doing calling me at this time of night?”
“Y/n’s sick and I don’t know what else to do to help her. I don’t want to give her some medicine and it kill her, she’s so fragile.”
“Your not gonna kill her, Kara-” Kara cut her adoptive mom off.
“I might,” Eliza could tell she was stressed.
“You won’t. She’s human Kara, she’ll be alright for the night.”
“Are you sure? She said her stomach hurts? How do I help with that? She threw up too.”
“You can make sure she doesn’t need to throw-”
“Y/n?” Kara blurted out, watching you run back into the bathroom and let the rest of your stomach go.
“Pull her hair back,” Kara pulls back your hair, wincing at the smell and tucked her phone between her shoulder and ear. “Make sure she doesn’t drink anything for a little while after throwing up, she might throw it all up again.”
“She's not a little baby.” Kara began to stroke your hair gently.
“But she will need fluids, just not right after. Make a washcloth for her, oh, hun, don’t forget to check her temperature. You guys try to get some sleep for the night and I’ll be over in the morning. Goodnight, Kara.”
“Eliza, I don't-” She hung up. Kara slumped over, catching her phone, holding most of your hair with the other hand, whilst setting her phone aside. Turning her focus back to you, she saw you were just hovering over the toilet. “Feeling better?” Her only answer was more chunks of last night's dinner flying into the toilet. After finally getting you clean of sickness from changing your clothes, wiping your face and doing the same to the bathroom, you and Kara got cozy in her bed.
“Sleep, baby. Tomorrow we’ll go to Alex and make sure you get better.”
“Mommy?”
“Yes…?”
“I want you to make me better, I’m not a patient.”
“Go to sleep, we’ll talk in the morning.” She kissed your red cheek.
The next morning…
You fluttered your eyes open to the noise of a voice coming from the kitchen. Your head ached, throat was dry and you were cold, so cold, even in your mom's thick covers. Again hearing someone in the kitchen. Kara was either trying to learn how to cook again, Alex was here or you were being robbed which didn't have much of a chance of being true.
“Moooom…” You groaned, the other voice abruptly stopping and she came into view from around the corner, immediately smiling when she saw you.
“How's my girl? Feeling better?” Before you could respond she continued almost excitedly. “I have some medicine, you said your stomach hurt? Does anything else hurt? Your head, do you have a runny nose, what about your throat, honey?” She was leaning over you, in an overbearing type of way.
You groaned again, “Everything.”
“Everything…?” Kara was confused and didn't understand how everything could be wrong, but tried to process it. “Okay… I’ll be right back…” She ran back to her computer when there was a knock on the door, and you called out for her again.
“Just a minute, Y/n/n,” She opened the door, “Eliza…!” She wasn't sure if she should be happy or overwhelmed.
“Kara! How is she feeling?” Kara took a deep breath.
“She told me everything hurts,” Right on cue you groaned out for her again. She walked back in and sat on the bed next to you.
“What's up?” Tucking the hair behind your ear, you sniffled.
“Am I sick?” Kara rests her face.
“I’m afraid so. Let's take your temperature.” When she moved to get up you pulled on her arm as she tried to get away. “Y/n, I’ll be right back.” She walked back to Eliza, as you move around trying to find a comfy position on the bed. Back in the kitchen Eliza had set her things down and was looking at the pile on the island table.
“Do you see the thermometer in there?” Eliza shook her head,moving back to her purse. “Damn,” Kara whispered to herself and started to look around for her coat.
“I brought one, Kara.” Eliza handed a thermometer out to her.
“No, I can go buy one, really, I need one anyway.” She chuckles lightly, gesturing to you in her bed. She could hear you groaning quietly from pain.
“Take it, make sure she’s not too hot.”
“Mommy come back now!” You yelled for her.
“Coming, sweetheart,” She took the thermometer and nodded in agreement, “Thank you.” Eliza smiled and as Kara raced over to you, Eliza came into view and saw how her daughter took care of you. She had no knowledge of sickness. Turning back towards the kitchen, wanting to make you something to eat Eliza saw the computer. It was open to a tab about how to care for a sick kid. Under the website ‘Wiki How’
“104.2? Is that bad?”
“What! 104? I’m calling Alex.”
“What? Is 104 a high temp?” Kara questioned unsure. You, on the verge of going back to sleep, your mom came and woke you up.
“Stooop! I was almost asleep.” You harshly move away from her, annoyed people were waking you up.
“I’m sorry, we have to go. Y/n,” She tried to pick you up, but your squirming was not helping. “Y/n, this is not the time.” She warned and you whined. “What's wrong? What's wrong?” She asked, starting to sound exhausted.
“I don't want to go.”
“I wish I didn't have to take you there, baby, but it'll make you feel better.” She tried again and you accepted her, dangling your arms around her neck loosely.
“Promise?”
“Promise.” Kara leaped out the window, Eliza on the phone with Alex who was getting you a bed made in MedBay.
I originally wrote this on tumblr as a sort of see if folks like the premise, and am still kind of amazed at the response. So am throwing it on AO3. I haven't decided on an update schedule since my main focus is my Unraveling Realities fic and my Korrasami: Book 3.5 fic.
So expect updates every two weeks.
Excerpt:
When the news came, Lena was in a meeting with Sam and the L-Corp's board. She'd long ago set all alerts for Supergirl to come through to her phone, but ones where Supergirl was injured had been set to ignore all other settings.
The ring caused Sam to jump, but Lena kept her cool. She glanced down at her phone, and felt her veins turn to ice. A brief message that Supergirl had fallen from the sky.
Shit.
Lena grabbed her phone and bag. "I regret that I must take this call. An emergency has come up."
Sam looked at her, her brow furrowed in worry. "I can handle this, Lena. Go."
With a tight smile to her friend and CFO, Lena hurried from the room. She swapped out her shoes, and took off in a sprint. The alert had given her an intersection, but she needed to know if Alex knew about this yet.
Lena: Alex, I'm incoming.
Alex: wait, what ?
Lena: Kara, she's fallen.
Alex: The hell? She's supposed to be eating lunch! Was in a meeting. Where?
Lena forwarded the alert's text, baffled that Alex had no idea.
Alex: How close are you? It's gonna take me fifteen minutes. J'onn unavailable.
Lena: Be there in five.
The doors of the elevator opened. Why drive when she could take the helicopter?
ᕚ---ᕘ
You worked in a well-lit laboratory in the DEO's forensic department, surrounded by state-of-the-art equipment and shelves full of samples. The small room was cool and quiet, only the hum of the refrigerator compartments and the clacking of keys on the computers could be heard as you hammered your latest results into the machine.
Concentrated and deeply immersed in the investigation, you were working on the analysis of alien DNA, which you tried to extract in front of a microscope with great precision and concentration, when suddenly a strange feeling of weakness came over you. The colors blurred and a dull pressure spreads through your head. An unpleasant tingling sensation ran through your body, as if a thousand tiny needles were poking your skin.
The world around you began to spin. The sounds in the lab suddenly became muffled in your ears, as if they were coming from far away and not directly near you. Your palms became clammy as your heart seemed to beat faster, as if it was trying to escape your chest.
Your thoughts were whirling wildly and panic was slowly creeping up inside you as you tried to ignore the dizziness. "It is okay. It will be over in a moment," you whispered to yourself, holding tightly onto the arms of the chair next to you. You tried to breathe deeply, but the air felt thin, like you were breathing through a straw.
Your gaze wandered through the glass panels down to the center of the entire DEO and your colleagues, who seemingly went about their work without a care in the world. Including the distorted bodies of your girlfriend and her sister, who was probably planning a new mission with J'onn. But your world continued to spin and slowly distort, and the sounds around you continued to muffle, as if you were hearing through cotton.
Your eyelids felt heavy and the temptation to close them became overwhelming. A wave of nausea welled up inside you, and you swallowed hard to suppress the urge to vomit. Cold beads of sweat formed on your forehead as your body began to tremble, unable to withstand the sudden rush of renewed weakness.
Then it happened. The world around you began to transform into a jumble of glittering stars and shapes. A last desperate attempt to hold on ended in a weak grip, and your legs gave out. The darkness enveloped you as your body sank heavily to the ground. The loss of consciousness came suddenly and without warning. Everything went black and you lost all sense of space and time.
When you came to, you found yourself not on the floor of the lab, but in the arms of your boss. Alex walked quickly beside him, worried and eager to help you and find out what had happened to you.
Your lab was usually a busy place, but when Alex walked through the doors there was an unusual silence. Her footsteps echoed muffled on the cold floor as she walked through the rows of experimental tables and apparatus, searching for you, who usually responded immediately to her footsteps. But as she turned the corner, her eyes fell on you, lying motionless on the floor. Her heart rate immediately increased and she walked the last few meters across the room to get to you. "Y/n? Love, can you hear me?" She called out as she dropped to her knees in front of you.
You lay there, your face peaceful and relaxed, but your skin was pale and your breathing was shallow. Alex reached for your wrist to feel for a pulse, trying to figure out what might have happened. There were no obvious signs of injury or external impact from a failed test.
Carefully, she moved you into a more stable position before looking for signs of poisoning or anything that might indicate an accident, but there were no clear clues. The equipment and apparatus in the laboratory appeared to be undisturbed, which only made the situation even more mysterious.
"I am with you, I will just get help quickly," she spoke soothingly down to you before running to the lab door and calling down to J'onn to help her transport you. The Martian had answered his best agent's desperate call for help and in a short time ran upstairs and straight away picked you up in his arms to take you to the medical section , where he handed you onto a bed while the redhead fetched everything she needed for you.
As Alex took your blood pressure, she continued to frantically think about what could have happened. Have you worked on an experiment that gave off toxic gases? Or could it have a health cause that she did not know about? The seconds dragged on and on until the sounds of the automatic blood meter came on, offering her an explanation of what had happened to you. "Sudden drop in blood pressure. This caused your brain to briefly receive too little blood and you fainted,"
A quiet grumble and the slow movements of your body caused her to snap out of her thoughts as she dropped everything to concentrate entirely on you. Alex smiled lovingly at you and gently stroked your forehead. "Hey, nice to have you back with me," she whispered gently as she leaned down and placed a weak kiss on your cheek. "You scared me a lot, darling."
You tried to sit up, but another feeling of dizziness overcame you. Carefully, the redhead placed a hand on your shoulder and helped her sit up slowly. "Not so fast. Take your time, okay? You are still under the weather." You nodded weakly, grateful for your girlfriend's support and quick response as you slowly tried to compose yourself. Your vision was blurry and you felt disoriented, yet your eyes tried to slowly focus on Alex's worried face. "What happened?" you asked, your voice still weak.
Alex had meanwhile sat down on a chair after she had prepared a glass of sugar water for you and pressed it to your lips, encouraging you to take a few sips from it. „You had a temporary drop in blood pressure. Nothing too serious, but you should rest and recover,“ Slowly your memories returned and you wanted to get right back to work, not caring about how you felt, but the redhead dissuaded you. "No, you are definitely not going back to work. Were you not listening to me what I said seconds ago?"
"I can not rest, Alex. I have to extract the DNA and find something you can use to fight against the alien," you quaked and she shook her head hastily before folding her arms under her chest, bringing her dominance into her decision. You knew that you had no chance against her, that she was completely superior to you, and you nodded slightly before sliding down in the hospital bed and letting her cover you with a thin blanket. "Thank you for being here,"
A faint smile crossed her face and she leaned in, this time to give you a longer and deeper kiss on the lips. "Give your body time to recover and call me if you need anything. Do not get the idea of leaving this bed." She warned you and you nodded, pursing your lips again to elicit another kiss. She giggled, giving you three more kisses.
Promising her to take it easy, she left you alone to recover before she could take you home. The warmth, care, and gentle words helped you relax and soon you fell into a gentle sleep that gave your body the energy you so desperately needed.
“I’m just gonna shower quickly and get this alien gunk out of my hair.” Alex smiled warmly, kissing your forehead before making her way into your bathroom.
Tonight, was game night which meant a night full of laughter, jokes and fun. It was your turn to host this time and in true Danvers fashion, Alex had set out a pretty awesome snack board filled with plenty of treats, and you’d put some beer and wine on ice too.
You just wished you’d be able to enjoy it a little more. Normally you’d be super excited and bursting with energy but honestly you just felt drained. Your throat had been sore all day and now it on the verge of hurting, that in combination with frequent headaches, chills and seeming endless sniffles it was safe to say you weren’t exactly bubbly for tonight. For now, though, you were enjoying the silence, well near silence - Alex was humming a tune in the other room as the shower came to temperature.
A friendly knock the door came soon enough, and you pulled yourself from the sofa, grimacing a little at the surge of dizziness it sent through your body. You made sure to put on a smile as you opened the door.
“Y/N! Hi!” Kara beamed, pulling you into a hug before you could object - it’s fine. It’s not like you could get her sick anyway. Lena smiled beside her, and you offered her a hug too, albeit very brief.
“Hey you two.” You welcomed, your voice coming our raspier then intended, “Alex is here too, she’s just showering.” You added seeing Kara’s eyes looking around for her.
You stepped aside to let the two of them in, Kara bounced in, instantly sneaking over to eat an Oreo from the snacks. Lena also came in, but she hesitated a little, her eyes seemed to be looking over you, her face unreadable. Maybe if you’d had a chance to think you could’ve realised what she was thinking but-
“Hh’itshu!” You quickly ducked down into your elbow with a sudden sneeze and when you’d pulled your head back up, Lena’s expression had changed again but she said nothing, only reaching over to gently rub your shoulder.
“Bless you.”
“Thanks, Lena," you replied with a grateful smile, touched by her caring gesture. You led her into the living room where Kara was already helping herself to some more snacks, her eyes shining with excitement. You couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt knowing you wouldn't be able to match her enthusiasm tonight.
You coughed a little as you sat back down, quickly masking it by clearing your throat, “So, what did you two bring to play this time?”
“Well, we didn’t know exactly what to bring, Kara wanted to do Twister but considering how that ended last time.” She trailed off with a laugh as the Kyrptonian giggled, “So we went with the classics: monopoly, pictonary and such.” She explained, taking off her bag and bringing out numerous board games.
You couldn't help but chuckle at the memory of the Twister mishap from the last game night. It had been hilarious to watch Kara accidentally bend the Twister mat into a pretzel shape with her super strength.
As you all settled around the coffee table, the board games spread out before you, the three of you fell into friendly conversation as you waited for Alex. The water had stopped a few minutes ago so she was probably just changing.
“So, anything exciting out there today Supergirl?” You asked Kara, prompting her to go into a spiel about some bad guys she’d taken care of. About half-way through Lena went to go get everyone a drink and whilst you tried to pay attention to the happily babbling blonde, you couldn’t help but get distracted by an insistent itching in your sinuses.
It was hard to ignore and you’d honestly tried to hold it back as to not interrupt her but it had gotten the better of you as you weakly threw up your hand to tell her to pause before bending to the side as you muffled two quick sneezes into your arm, “Hh’itshoo! Hh-Hh’tshiew! Ugh, sorry Kara, excuse me.”
“Oh, bless you! Someone’s certainly sneezy today.” She smiled, hopefully oblivious as she rubbed your back before continuing her story. Lena quickly returned with your drinks, and it was impossible to miss the look of sympathy in her eyes as she handed yours to you. Shit. She knew. She was always the more perceptive one out of the two.
As if on cue, Alex had wandering in just as Kara finished her story. Her hair was still a little damp, but she was dressed in fresh comfy clothes, and she offered both women a warm embrace as she came to join everyone.
“Kara, Lena, it’s so good to see you.” She said as she eyed the games already set out, “So I see we’re going with the classics?”
“How was your shower sweetheart?” You coughed a little, trying to clear the frog in your throat as Alex came to sit by your side.
As Alex settled down beside you, she wrapped her arm around your shoulders, giving you a comforting squeeze. "The shower was nice, finally got all that alien goo out of my hair," she chuckled, leaning in to give you a gentle kiss on the cheek. "You okay though? Your voice sounds worse than earlier, I was meaning to say something.”
You paused for a second before waving off her concern, “It’s fine, don’t worry. Just a passing thing.” You excused, pretending to miss the way Lena was subtly raising her eyebrow at you.
The evening continued with the four of you playing board games, laughing, and having a good time despite your declining energy. Alex seemed to be enjoying herself, and you were grateful for her presence, knowing she could always lift your spirits.
As the night wore on, you couldn't ignore the increasing discomfort in your throat and the persistent sneezing and sniffles. You tried to downplay it, not wanting to ruin the fun for everyone else, but it was becoming more challenging to hide.
During a one of the breaks between games, Lena excused herself to the restroom and Alex left to pour herself another drink. Kara took the opportunity to lean in, her super hearing having caught your last 3 stifled sneezes you’d managed to hide from the rest of the group. "Y/N, are you sure you're feeling alright? You sound really congested to me and I was blaming that on my hearing, but you've been sneezing a lot too.”
Double Shit. You knew Lena wouldn’t say anything about it, she was one to stay back and silently offer comfort when needed. But Kara was different, she’d actively want to help, and attention was the last thing you wanted right now.
Tonight, was about having fun together, not a group nursing session. Not only that, but you also wanted tonight to be a break for Alex too, becoming Director of the DEO was taking a lot out of her and you wanted her to be able to relax and not have to worry about her girlfriend’s silly cold.
“Kara, it’s fine.” You tried to give her a genuine smile, “I’m a little congested but it's just the weather changing, that’s all. Please don’t worry about it.”
Despite your insistence that you were just dealing with seasonal changes, Kara didn't look entirely convinced. Her brow furrowed with concern as she studied you closely, her super senses probably giving her a clear indication that something was off. You knew it was futile to hide anything from her, but you didn't want to disrupt the fun-filled evening.
Kara opened her mouth to say something, but just then, Alex returned with her drink in hand, and Lena followed suit, returning from the restroom. The momentary distraction gave you a chance to change the subject, and you steered the conversation toward another board game, hoping to divert Kara's attention.
"Hey, let's play Uno next! That's always a blast," you suggested with a smile, grabbing the box and setting it up. Everyone agreed, and soon you were all immersed in the hilarity of how awful Lena was at Uno, the laughter filling the room once again.
As the game progressed, you couldn't help but sneeze a couple more times, despite trying to stifle them. Kara glanced at you each time, her worry evident, but she respected your wish not to make a fuss. The evening went on with games and snacks, and you kept pushing through, even as your symptoms seemed to worsen.
At one point, you excused yourself to blow your nose in the bathroom, and when you returned, you found Alex talking quietly to Kara and Lena, her expression a mix of concern and determination. They all fell silent when you re-entered the room, but you pretended not to notice.
The four of you continued playing for a few minutes before Alex offered to refill everyone's drinks. She quickly brought Kara and Lena another wine and went over to grab a beer for the two of you.
It was when she went to pour yours into a glass that she had an idea. She reached into the cupboard and took out a labelled bottle and took a moment to slip some cold medicine into your glass. It wasn’t a lot by any means, just enough to take the edge off. It was something you’d done for her in the past. Alex wasn't the type to confront you in front of others, but she wanted to make sure you had some relief.
When she returned, she handed you the drink with a loving smile, "Here you go, love. Stay hydrated." She said warmly, brushing her fingers softly against yours briefly as you accepted the glass gratefully. You couldn't help but smile at Alex's thoughtfulness, appreciating her discreet gesture to help ease your discomfort. Taking a sip from the glass, you subtly noticed the slight taste of the medicine, and you felt a glimmer of relief already.
You reached out and squeezed her hand, letting her know that you knew about what she’d done, and she leant over to kiss your forehead in reply.
It was a small, private moment of connection between you and Alex, and it brought you comfort knowing that she cared for you and wanted to help in her own way. With the cold medicine starting to take effect, you began to feel a bit more relieved, and you were able to enjoy the rest of the evening without feeling as drained.
As the night continued, you all played more games, laughed, and shared stories. Kara and Lena, though concerned, respected your desire to not make a big deal out of your illness and kept the mood light and enjoyable. Alex stayed by your side, offering her silent support.
Eventually, it was time for Kara and Lena to head back home, “You need to learn to look after yourself properly.” Lena had whispered quietly as Kara and Alex were saying goodbye, “Tonight was fun though, I hope you feel better, if you need anything don’t hesitate to call.”
“Thanks Lena, I will.” You smiled as she pulled you into a hug before going to take Kara’s hand. With a final round of hugs and goodbyes, Kara and Lena left for the night. After bidding them goodbye, you and Alex cleaned up the game boards and snacks. As you both settled into bed, Alex wrapped her arms around you, pulling you close.
"You're so stubborn, you know," Alex teased gently, kissing the top of your head. "You should've told me earlier that you weren't feeling well."
You let out a soft chuckle, burying your face in the crook of her neck. "I didn't want to spoil the night for everyone. Besides, I had you taking care of me anyway."
Alex chuckled, pressing a tender kiss to your cheek. "You don't always have to be the strong one, I'm here for you, no matter what. Next time, just let me know, okay?"
You nodded as she pulled the back of your neck towards her, her soft lips came to meet yours as she kissed you. You wished that moment could’ve lasted forever but you had to pull away to duck away as you sneezed, “You better not complain when you catch this.” You laughed as she pulled you closer again.
“I would never.”
Every pride month, Alex Danvers wraps her strong, amazing hands around my throat, and shoves me into the never ending pit that is Sanvers, Maggie Sawyer, Lucy/Alex/Maggie, Dansen, Lucy/Alex, and even the occasional Alex/lena
And every June, I struggle with lack of new content as I hyperfixate exclusively on the best person to come out of DC in my homosexual opinion .
And, since I’ve learned how to shut myself up by writing my own fanfiction for Star Wars, I’m going to rewatch the entirety of supergirl and then throw myself headfirst into writing for them for the first time
So, keep an eye out for me projecting my homosexual light back into them and zombifying them once more
Asynchronous (Rift era, pre-Crisis, not nearly as much sc angst as the gif implies)
Where am I?, Kara thought, her body shaking as she pushed herself off the floor she had apparently crashed into, trying to stand. How long was I unconscious?
Her head was killing her. Pain was a rarity under a yellow sun, and in this case the feeling was hard to shake - it was just all too reminiscent of not long ago, when she was trapped in kryptonite, fighting burning lungs and a blinding headache while fighting heartbreak at the same time.
But she needed to not think about Lena right now.
Kara searched her mind for the last thing she remembered, Brainy’s words transmitted to her ears, telling her about the capabilities of the alien creature she was fighting. The creature was generally docile enough - but in a panic, it would thrash and quake, and it had the unique ability to…
Where… When am I?, Kara thought, looking around at the building whose ceiling she had fallen into. The creature could send her anywhere in time and space - forward or back in time, across the planet or galaxy, it didn’t matter. The good news is that the effect would be temporary in nature, lasting a day at most, before she snapped back into place, something about attenuated vibrations. “Time is like a rubber band,” Brainy had said, though Kara was certain she could hear pain in his attempt to simplify the explanation.
Kara heard the buzz of a portal behind her, the quick cock of a gun. “Don’t move,” came the familiar voice. “These aren’t ordinary bullets.”
Kara turned slowly, deflating under the hard eyes of her ex-best-friend. Lena was tense and angry, her finger resting on the trigger, her other hand on a tracking device. My heat signature, Kara thought, Guess she has kryptonite bullets now.
Lena’s eyes narrowed as she reached to her belt, before tossing vibrant green cuffs in Kara’s direction. “Put those on.”
Kara lowered herself to the floor, taking the cuffs, feeling the burn in her hands. She couldn’t really fathom Lena trying to kill her. But after the disruption of Lena’s Myriad plan, and now being held at gunpoint… “Lena, what are - what are you going to do?”
“How do you know my name?” Lena growled.
Kara’s eyes widened. Anywhere in time and space… “Who do you think I am?” Kara asked.
“Is that a joke?” Lena asked, as Kara’s mind revved into overdrive. “You think you can come back, with cartoonish S on your chest, and we’ll forget the Third Reich?”
Fear sank into Kara’s stomach. Earth X. “Lena, I know this looks like-”
“Through the portal. Now.”
-----------
Kara found herself sitting in an interrogation room.
Her mind was scrambling for what Barry had said had become of Earth X - she remembered that, in the aftermath, the Third Reich had fallen to the Resistance, which was trying to rebuild a non-fascist society. But she knew the balance had to be fragile. The Reich had its proponents.
But Kara didn’t have long to think, before another familiar face walked into the room. “Winn!” Kara said, jumping up.
“Sit down,” Winn growled back.
Kara tensed, shaking off her confusion as she slowly sank to her chair, as Winn gave Lena a skeptical look. Right, he’s not the Winn I know either…
Lena shrugged. “She knew my name, too.”
“You’re both my friends,” Kara said softly, “On my Earth.”
Winn ignored her words, stepping around the table to take a seat at its corner. “We need to know if the Führer is still alive.”
“He’s dead,” Kara said, meeting Winn’s eyes. “As is his wife.”
Winn’s eyes narrowed in suspicion.
“I was sent here by accident,” Kara answered. “At some point in the next day or so, I’ll snap back to my own Earth.” If you don’t kill me first, she thought.
“And how do I know you’re from another Earth?” Winn demanded.
“You met my sister,” Kara whispered, thinking back to Alex’s stories when they were separated on Earth X, years ago. “Alex Danvers. On my Earth, she’s your friend too.”
“You,” Winn said skeptically. “I’m friends with you.”
“I’m not from your Earth,” Kara said. “I’m not asking you to trust me. Just let me live long enough to go back to my own time.”
-----------
Kara fidgeted as she sat alone in the room again - watching, waiting, itching against the bounds of her kryptonite cuffs.
She was certain that Winn and Lena - possibly others - were debating what to do with her. Hopefully they don't just kill me, Kara thought, searching her mind for how she might prove she’s not from their Earth.
But the door opened again.
Lena stepped in quietly, eyes on Kara. But the anger was subdued from before. She was curious. “Lena,” Kara whispered.
The wariness wasn’t gone from Lena’s stance, but she sat across from Kara. “What’s it like, on your Earth?”
Kara smiled. My Lena would be curious about the other Earths too, she thought. “The Third Reich ended in 1945. We’re… far from a perfect world. But we haven’t had the struggle that you’ve had.”
“And you and I are friends?”
Kara’s expression faltered, as she glanced down at her hands. “We used to be. We used to be best friends.”
“What happened?”
Kara bit at her lip, unable to look Lena in the eye. “I betrayed you. You hate me now.”
Lena’s brows furrowed. “That doesn’t seem to be the sort of thing that would help your cause.”
“I’m not going to lie to you again,” Kara said. “I’ve done too much of that. The other you, I mean.”
Lena frowned, and Kara could see some of the tension in her body rise again. “What happened to my Earth’s Kara? How did she die?”
“Her heart was dying from too much solar exposure,” Kara said. “I took her up into the atmosphere before her body… it started a nuclear reaction.”
“And the Führer?”
“Oliver from another Earth killed him.”
Lena’s eyebrows briefly raised. “Winn met him, apparently.”
“Yeah. My sister was there too.”
-----------
Kara itched at her bonds again, wishing there was a clock she could check. I don’t know how much time would be left anyway, she thought to herself. But at least I’d know…
She was surprised to hear the door open again. Lena walked through with a cup and some bread, placing both in front of Kara on the table. “You must be hungry,” she said.
“Thank you,” Kara murmured, leaning forward and beginning to eat.
“What did you lie to me about?” Lena asked. “On your Earth?”
Kara swallowed harshly. “I- I kept my kryptonian identity from you. Kryptonians and Luthors don’t get along.”
“Luthors?”
Kara’s brow crinkled. “Are you a Walsh, here?”
Lena nodded slowly.
“Your mother…” Kara asked. “She’s alive?”
Lena’s eyes narrowed. “Yes.”
Kara smiled. She got to be raised by Elizabeth, she thought. “Are the Luthors alive? On this Earth?”
“No,” Lena said. “Alexander Luthor was the last Führer, before Oliver Queen. There was a power struggle.”
Kara nodded. “You were raised by the Luthors. On my Earth. So when I hid my identity, and became friends with you… you didn’t take it well when you found out.”
Lena looked on curiously. “The secret? Drove me to hate you?”
Kara shook her head. “There were other mistakes I made. In the aftermath. I… hurt you pretty badly.”
“So what did I do next?”
“You tried to brainwash the world.”
Lena’s eyes widened. “Why?”
“To make everyone kind.”
Lena’s brow raised. I guess that resonates, Kara thought. In a world full of fascists…
“I can see the appeal,” Lena said.
-----------
Kara was fascinated. And bored.
Her only company was Lena, on and off. She was grateful when Lena came in with food, and over the moon when Lena came in to exchange Kara’s kryptonite cuffs with far less painful power cuffs.
But her moments with Lena were few and far between given her apparent other responsibilities, leaving Kara staring up at the ceiling for long stretches of time.
She found herself torn, thoughts of “When will I be able to go home?” warring with “I hope my Lena looks at me like that again someday.”
-----------
“Are you happy here?” Kara asked. “Are you- are you with anyone?” Lena smiled. “I met him a year ago,” she said. “We butted heads on technical projects. Trying to rebuild our society’s infrastructure. But something more came of it.”
Kara smiled. “Jack?”
Lena’s eyes widened, and she nodded. “Jack.”
Kara nodded too. “I’m glad you have someone.”
Lena tilted her head curiously. “Were we more than friends?”
“You and Jack? Yeah, on my Earth-”
“No,” Lena clarified. “You and I. What were we to each other?”
Oh. “No,” Kara said, shifting uncomfortably. “We were only ever friends.”
“Is that all you wanted?”
“I just- don’t think it’s relevant to you-”
“I don’t know what I’m like on your Earth,” Lena said, leaning forward on her arms. “But if someone hurt me so badly that I try to brainwash the world about it, I think that person must’ve meant something to me.”
Kara bit her lip.
Lena’s brow quirked. “If your plan is to never lie to me again, that seems like the sort of thing you should tell me. Other me.”
Kara laughed, her heart twinging with joy and pain. “If we ever get along again, I’ll tell you.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
-----------
“Why are you trusting me?” Kara asked curiously.
“What do you mean?” Lena asked, in a tone that was more coy than confused.
“You just seem less suspicious of me than before,” Kara shrugged. “In the beginning.”
Lena’s lips quirked, taking a moment to consider Kara. She then raised her hand, twisting it slightly, causing a small yellow glow to appear. Kara noted in shock that there seemed to be a glow passing over her own body, too. “What’s happen- what are you doing?”
“Just making your temporal shift visible,” Lena said. “I scanned you after our first meeting. I can’t prove you’re not from this Earth, but I can prove that you’re not where the universe expects you to be right now.”
“I’m sorry, but-” Kara sputtered. “But are you using magic?”
“Lena doesn’t have magic on your Earth?” Lena said.
“I can’t even get my Lena to believe in magic,” Kara said with a laugh. “Rao, this is amazing.”
Kara glanced up, and found Lena smiling.
-----------
“How long have I been here?” Kara asked.
“About 12 hours,” Lena said. “Honestly, I’d let you go. But Winn said it might cause a panic anyway, if too many people see you walking around.”
Kara sat back for a moment. “Yeah, that makes sense.”
-----------
It was at the 17 hour mark - just after Lena had brought in more food - that Kara’s hands began to glow. “What are you doing now?” Kara asked.
“Nothing,” Lena said, leaning forward to eye the glow. “I think you’re being pulled back.”
“Oh,” Kara said, glancing up at the alternate Lena. What should I say? “Thank you,” Kara murmured. “Thanks for being good company.”
“Give me time,” Lena said gently.
“Time?”
“I’ll come to my senses,” Lena said, thinking to herself, nodding. “I- I know there’s baggage. But at some point, I will come to my senses. I’ll come back to you.”
Kara smiled. “I hope so.”
“Good luck, Kara Zor-El.”
-----------
Kara found herself falling. No longer cuffed, no longer in a dark dusty room - but bathed in sunlight and breathing fresh air. Earth-38, she thought gratefully.
She blinked, shooting upwards in the sky again, hearing shouting in her ear. “Kara?” came Brainy’s panicked voice. “Kara, are you still there?”
“I’m here,” Kara gasped, looking over National City.
“Must’ve lost you for a minute,” Brainy said. “The creature is by the arboretum. We’ve finished making the power net, J’onn is flying it over.”
Kara glanced to the north, but her ears were fixating somewhere southeast, locating a familiar heartbeat. We’ll figure it out, Kara thought, clinging to Earth X Lena’s words.
We’ll get there, in the end. “I’m on my way.”
The first 2 building was just a simple 1-story building that was completely abandoned, so it wouldn't take long to search. Brainy and Nia checked the building, but it was empty there were a few box here and there, but that’s it, the second building was the same. Kara and j’onn Already checked the first floor and there was nothing. Getting to the last floor, both sister were starting to lose hope. They look around the last floor, but they didn't find you or the alien. “Brainy, are you sure those were the only location you found.” Kara asked desperately. “Unfortunately, yes, that’s all I have for now.” Kara sighed and looked at j’onn with tears in her eyes. “We will never find them in time.” J'onn took Kara in his harm.” Yes, we will ok well find them in time.”
 In a last ditch attempt, Kara used her super hearing. She was extremely surprised to hear a really faint but present heart beat, pulling away she concentrated on the sound. “What wrong?” He asked. "I think I hear something, It's coming from downstairs.” She followed the sound, it leads her to a wall on the first floor. “Hidden door, maybe.” Kara said, and J’onn shrugged. They looked around trying to find something like a button, a lever, anything that could reveal a secret door. Looking closely, Kara found a spot that wasn’t the exact shade of the wall, she pressed on it and the wall opened.
 Behind the door, Kara saw the most horrifying sigh she could ever see. There was you on the floor covered in blood and bruises, your eyes were closed and if it wasn’t for the slight movement of your chest anyone would've thought you were dead. The was towering over you, he grabbed you by the neck and lifted you in the air. “Are you dead yet or do I need to continue?” He chuckled, he squeezed your neck more and with your eyes still close you weakly grabbed at he’s wrist. Kara was frozen there in shock, she couldn’t move, she just looked at you.
Your POV:
You just wanted to die at this point, your entire body was hurting, you were so weak you couldn’t move nor could you scream in pain when he hit you or stabbed you with his sharp claws.
 You knew he was there, you could feel his presence. You heard the door open, so you thought he was actually gone, but you quickly realized he wasn’t when he wrapped his hand around your neck and squeezed, cutting your flow of oxygen, you weakly tried to loosen his grip on your throat, but it was obviously a failed attempt.
 Suddenly you were dropped onto the floor and you groaned at the impact. You heard some struggling then there were hands-on you, you whimpered and flinch in pain because the hand were touching one of your wound, you tried to move away from what you think was Vexok hands.
 General POV:
 “Get away from her!” J’onn scream, snapping Kara out of her trance. The Alien dropped you to the floor, right as he did, j’onn attacked him whilst Kara ran toward you. She placed her hand on your side to see how badly you were hurt, She heard you whimpered and try to move away from her, not knowing she was hurting you she pressed down harder to keep you from moving. A weak cry left your lips and that when she took her hand away, you shook like a leaf and try to move away again. “Sweetheart, it’s me, it’s Kara, it’s your big sister. You’re going to be ok. I know it hurt, I’m sorry. Could you open your eyes for me please?” Kara said, tears brimming her eyes at the sight of you like this, you slowly opened your eyes, even if your sight was blurred a little you recognized your sister’s bright blue eyes they were filled with worry. You cried in relief and happiness at the sight of her.
 Behind her, j’onn made quick work of knocking the alien down. “Come on, we need to bring them both to the D.E.O.” J’onn said, Kara nodded and picked you up. You let out another weak cry of pain, which broke Kara’s heart even more. “I’m sorry, Honey, but I have to bring you to the D.E.O.” She said softly.
