gale: a natural impulse to try and shield one's loved ones from danger, especially when you feel a moral compunction to run head-first towards it.

it makes me think of the fact that we learn in an origin playthrough that gale completely cut off his contact from his mother, knowing that he himself has become a danger and a threat to her well-being.

such a threat and such a danger that it ultimately led to gale leaving his beloved home behind to seek treatment and, even though he has found nothing to indicate it exists, perhaps a cure.

tara: she still wants to know when she'll see you again, sir. i avoid giving any answers. but she misses you. gale: i can't risk putting her in danger. tara: i know that, but she doesn't.

You know what? You’re getting another fluffy filler chapter

Or, more correctly, I’m getting another fluffy filler chapter because that’s apparently the only thing I want to write right now. I’ve been on the verge of a nervous breakdown these past couple of days since I’m looking at what I have of chapter 23 so far and it’s just more pointless fluff and I’m like “no, I should move on, this doesn’t really drive the plot at all” and then I feel bad because it feels like I’m stalling and not writing what I “should” be writing.

But I also can’t bring myself to cut the scenes I’ve written so far because they’re cute and kinda funny and Ga On is being a little shit and I love that for him. And Yo Han is being a flirty bastard and I think we ALL love that for him.

So to hell with it. I know I promised plot soon but that apparently won’t happen in this chapter. Maybe not even in the next one since I now have to push some of the things I initially intended for this chapter to that one. And I think I just have to accept that. I haven’t been able to write in several days because I’ve been fretting over this and high-key panicking because oh god, this isn’t really necessary why am I writing this?

But I think the answer is “because I want to see Ga On be a little shit and take Yo Han by surprise for once.” Admittedly, Yo Han kind of turns it around (as he always does) but an attempt was made and it was a rather good attempt too, I must say.

So yeah. This is me officially declaring that I have the right to write another (relatively) pointless fluffy chapter because I want to. Maybe now I can continue writing without almost having a goddamn panic attack.

Let’s pretend its for the character development, or something.

A lot of pop psychology gets thrown around and since I already have a headache, here's preventing you lot from making it worse.

Love-bombing: A manipulation tactic of increasing affection and grand gestures before or after doing something abusive, specifically to weasel one's way out of consequences.

What it is not: A streak of affection and generosity towards friends/loved ones.

Trauma-bonding: Knowingly traumatizing someone to take advantage of their vulnerable state, to then act like the "hero" or the one who cheers them up.

What it is not: Bonding over similar traumas.

Gaslighting: *Knowingly* convincing someone they cannot trust their own perception of a situation in pursuit of one's own narrative.

What it is not: Misaligned perception of events.

Narcissist: Someone afflicted with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a traumagenic cluster B disorder, that struggles with self-obsession, paranoia, craving validity from the public, delusions of grandeur, and social disconnection.

It is not: Your rubbish ex that cheated on you.

I can’t tell you how much I love this artwork from ancient Egypt (the Middle Kingdom). People have been raising cattle and practicing animal husbandry for so long, that there is something almost inherently human about this scene.

Everyone in the field of veterinary medicine or agriculture knows the feeling of staying up late with a laboring animal trying to make sure both mom and baby are okay. Delivering a calf is often physically and emotionally exhausting work that takes enormous patience and learned skill. It requires a unique balance of physical strength and gentleness to do correctly. There is no feeling quite like getting that baby out and everyone is okay. I’m certain ancient people must have felt the same way, and I wonder if the artist knew this feeling firsthand. I wonder if those humans depicted were people the artist knew, if the cow and calf maybe were as well.
