          ⊹˚. ♡ ship ideas
hiii ! so i’ve got quite a few characters and i’d like to get some more shippy stuff going with them. under the read more is a basic outline of what i want / what character it relates to and if you’re interested at all pls just like and we can discuss what one you are interested in ! i’ll start crossing them off as they get filled and add when i come up with other ideas but these are the main ones currently. please be aware i will only offer m/f and f/f on the below characters. last updated on 25/04/23.
angie rhodes / choreographer: the father of her child coming back into her life... please. she’s a single mother but we could write how they came to having a child. maybe exes and angie found out she was pregnant after they broke up. this can definitely be fleshed out.
arabelle jang / actress: give me co-workers that are rumoured to be together and are trying so hard to not make the rumours true but their currently recording a rom-com and it’s long nights, lots of events and press together and resisting each other is just proving difficult. then when something happens it’s even harder to try and hide there’s something between them.
archie baek / premiership footballer: archie is definitely a player. every other week the media are speculating on who is his flavour of the week. maybe your muse is someone he is trying to go on a date with or something and they know about his reputation. thinking a lot of back and forth of archie trying to win the chase etc. but would ultimately end in him falling for your muse and throwing his player life out the window.
autumn prescott / con artist: would love someone who knew her before she was kicked out of her home and got into the business she is in now. maybe they are a customer of elijah’s and autumn finds it easy to research them because they were close in high school. this one probably needs to be more fleshed out but just thinking it’s her constantly trying to run away from them because she’s worried it could incriminate her but also not being able to stay away.
cartier im / socialite & heir: give him the only girl he’s ever loved. the one that got away. the only person that he ever cared about or would ever care about. thinking a chuck bass x blair waldorf situation where they’ve never been in the right place at the right time. a high school fling/relationship that he’s never been able to get over.
celeste jeong / solo artist: someone from her old company that she had a fling with when they were trainees and no one knew. now she’s on go agency she no longer has a dating ban and maybe they re-connect and things spark again!!! she’s got such bad memories of her old company but they’re the only thing that kept her there.
devon kochi / ice skater: ice skater x coach relationship please i am BEGGING. maybe they tried to stay away from each other for the sake of training but the long days and late nights took it’s toll on both of them and they’re now trying to hide their relationship from other skaters and the media.
enzo jeong / premiership footballer: please give enzo the stay at home wag. could have met when enzo was signing for his first premiership team. thinking someone whose own career was kicking off at the same time as him. maybe everyone said she only got with him at the time because he was coming into a lot of money from his contract but they proved everyone wrong and are still growing strong. probably a lot of rumours speculating in the media about if they have broken up or not when she’s just at a work event and he had to travel for a game etc.
evan ortiz / producer: thinking it’s an artist he’s currently working with they sparked something up on the last project and now they’re back in each other company it’s started again and they’re trying to hide it from the media. stolen glances and touches at public events where only their closet friends know they’re an item
peony kang / songwriter: one of her elder siblings industry friends would be kinda fun… maybe she helps write for them as a favour to her sibling and they realise just how much chemistry they have but they’re both trying not to act on it or trying to keep it hidden from not only the public but from her family too.
rowen xiao / socialite: someone from little money that her parents don’t approve of. they want their only daughter to marry rich, if not richer, and create heirs for the family business. she wants to find love, not riches. would be a constant battle of being from different worlds but rowen does everything she can to be with them.
scout bailey / olympic swimmer: give me childhood/high school sweethearts that were forced to split because of his training. he just wasn’t around wasn’t present because all his energy went into the training but now he’s older and has a career he’s got time and they re-connect again.
sutton lee / member of band: i want the person she wrote all the clover songs about whether it’s sad or happy. i want the turmoil relationship that gave clover their first wins, their first awards. i want her trying to stay away but not being able to and only getting hurt again cause the two can’t figure it out or it’s never the right timing. her playing the happy songs to them but writing the heart wrenching songs behind closed doors.
zahra west / divorce lawyer: just want a cliché plot of someone showing her love does exist and that not everything in love is bad after she’s seen so many failed relationships. someone to be the sunshine to her rainstorm.

Complete details for BATMAN BEYOND: The Complete Series Limited Edition coming 10/29 from Warner Bros.
WARNER BROS. HOME ENTERTAINMENT
AND DC PRESENT
BATMAN BEYOND:
THE COMPLETE SERIES
LIMITED EDITION
SERIES’ FIRST-EVER BLU-RAY PRESENTATION
COMING OCTOBER 15th, 2019 TO DIGITAL;
AND BLU-RAY™ BOX SET OCTOBER 29th, 2019
BURBANK, CA (July 18, 2019) – Batman Beyond, the landmark animated television series that illuminated the imagination of a new generation of Batman fans with its creation of an altogether new hero, is celebrating its 20th anniversary – and you get the gift! Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has remastered the heralded series for its first-ever presentation on Blu-ray™ in the all-encompassing Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Limited Edition, arriving on Digital ($49.99 SRP USA, $59.99 SRP Canada) starting October 15, 2019 and in a stunning box set ($99.99 SRP USA, $119.99 SRP Canada) on October 29, 2019. Distribution in Canada will be day-and-date with the USA, Pre-orders are now available.
The extraordinary Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Limited Edition package features approximately 1,500 minutes of entertainment spread over four Blu-ray™ discs, plus the two bonus discs of enhanced content. In addition to a newly-remastered Blu-ray presentation of Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, there are 15 featurettes on the bonus discs, highlighted by two new inside looks at the beloved television series, led by Nostalgic Tomorrow, a gathering of Batman Beyond production talent and cast led by executive producer Bruce Timm and actors Kevin Conroy and Will Friedle, the voices of Batman and Terry McGinnis, respectively. The bonus discs also spotlight four episodes with audio commentary from Timm and select members of the production team.
Collectibles within the stunning packaging include an exclusive chrome Batman BeyondFunko POP, and four beautifully-designed lenticular art cards produced especially forBatman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Limited Edition. This ultimate collectors Blu-ray box set will be individually numbered for a Limited Edition release of 50,000.
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation,Batman Beyond premiered on January 10, 1999 to instant ratings and critical success. The series would run for three seasons, covering 52 total episodes and a full-length animated film, Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker. Nominated for nine Emmy Awards, Batman Beyond would ultimately take home two Emmys – including Outstanding Special Class Animated Program in 2001 – as well as three Annie Awards.
Of the 52 original Batman Beyond episodes, 41 have been fully-remastered from either their original 35mm film source or the uncommon format “OCND,” the original camera negative digital (a digital scan of original negative). Lines and resolution have been enhanced, and dust and dirt have been removed – however, cell dirt remains to not disturb the original picture. Included in the remastering was the removal of grain, resulting in enhanced colors. The remastering process does cause a slight aspect ratio change (approximately 3% loss of screen image).
Due to time-worn irreparable damage, the remaining 11 episodes were “Smart Rezzed” from standard definition Digibeta video. The process provides for significant enhanced resolution and improvement of the original source material in converting from standard to high definition, though it does sacrifice horizontal lines for clearer image and color representation. While still a marked improvement over the original video, viewers will notice a slight difference between the Remastered and the Up-Rezzed final footage. The 11 affected episodes are: “Eyewitness,” “Final Cut,” “The Last Resort,” “Armory,” “Sneak Peek,” “The Eggbaby,” “Zeta,” “Plague,” “April Moon,” “Sentries of the Lost Cosmos” and “Speak No Evil.”
The creative team behind the breakthrough animated series was headed by the producing quartet of Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett and Glen Murakami, alongside executive producer Jean MacCurdy and associate producer Shaun McLaughlin. Shirley Walker composed the award-winning score with the Dynamic Music Partners trio of Lolita Ritmanis, Kristopher Carter and Michael McCuistion, while 8-time Emmy Award winner Andrea Romano guided an impressive collection of actors as casting/dialogue director. Butch Lukic, Dan Riba and Curt Gida directed the majority of episodic animation along with James Tucker, Kyung Won Lim and Yukio Suziki. Primary story editors and writers on the series were Burnett and Dini with Bob Goodman, Rich Fogel, Hilary Bader and Stan Berkowitz.
The Batman Beyond cast was spearheaded by Kevin Conroy, the fan favorite voice of The Dark Knight as established in the landmark Batman: The Animated Series. Will Friedle (Boy Meets World, Kim Possible) created the character of Terry McGinnis, Batman’s protégé. Veteran voiceover actresses Cree Sumner (Codename: Kids Next Door, Drawn Together) and Lauren Tom (Friends, The Joy Luck Club, Futurama) were series regulars as Max and Dana Tan, respectively.
The guest cast included a healthy collection of film and primetime television stars spanning from Academy Award nominees Paul Winfield, Stockard Channing, William H. Macy, Teri Garr and Michael McKean; Emmy Award winners John Ritter, Wayne Brady, Seth Green, Tim Curry, David Warner and Patton Oswalt; Golden Globe winners Stacy Keach, Amanda Donohoe and Jill Eikenberry; four Grammy Award winners led by Ice-T; and five members of the Hollywood Walk of Fame – Macy and Ritter along with George Takei, Michael Ansara and Mark Hamill. The cast also included legends of the entertainment industry and several young actors heading toward stardom, like Adrienne Barbeau, Kate Jackson, Angie Harmon, Linda Hamilton, Clancy Brown, Gary Cole, Ed Begley Jr., Wendie Malick, Cary Elwes, Olivia Hussey, Kurtwood Smith, Robert Patrick, Ian Ziering, CCH Pounder, Frank Welker, Johnny Galecki, Pauley Perrette, Michael Rosenbaum and Diedrich Bader.
All totaled, the Batman Beyond cast featured actors with laurels totaling five Academy Award nominations, 47 Emmy Awards, 206 Emmy nods, four Gold Globe Awards, 45 Golden Globe nominations, three Grammy Awards and nine nominations, and five actors forever enshrined with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Batman Beyond elevated the animated adventures of The Dark Knight to even greater heights, providing an edgier, faster-moving, more contemporary take on crime-fighting in Gotham with an inspiring new character in Terry McGinnis,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing. “Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has long known the fans’ desire to see this series come to Blu-ray, and we’re excited to finally have the technology to elevate the quality of the original assets to an exquisite high-definition presentation packaged with compelling collectibles in a limited edition set, especially as fans celebrate Batman’s 80th anniversary this year.”

Can I have Kaito x Maki married and family life headcanons?
Tumblr media
Thank you for sending us a request, anon! This was very fun and cute to write! In fact I might have gone a bit overboard on it... it became almost double the length I imagined it being! As such, you shall find your fluff-filled headcanons below the cut. I hope you like this as much as I did!
~Mod Shuichi~
Obviously it's Kaito who proposes because Maki's a superb little tsundere.
He asks her almost casually, just as they're wrapping up dinner in a romantic picnic by a lake and the stars are lighting up the night sky, the Milky Way stretching across the heavens above.
There's lots of crying tears of joy and hugging and kissing right after he pops the question, mainly because Maki just can't believe that this is happening to her. Kaito decides he loves her even more after her profoundly emotional reaction to it.
Kaito enlists Angie's help for just about everything, from designing and crafting the ring to lettering the invitations. It's a lot of work, but Angie lets it slide after Kaito praises her Atua-given talent and promises to buy her a nice meal as a 'sacrifice'. Even the Ultimate Artist needs some buttering up sometimes.
His wedding tux is a deep dark purple with glittering stars sprayed all over like the inside of his jacket, because why not? This is their special occasion, and Kaito wants to make it special, dammit.
Maki wears her hair down in her wedding dress and she looks absolutely stunning. Kaito makes sure to slip in an improvised vow that says she must wear her hair like that at least twice a week. She rolls her eyes, but agrees.
She couldn't care less about who catches the bouquet and tosses it over her shoulder as she walks out without a second thought. She doesn't see Kaede fly-tackling it (and Shuichi) in midair.
(Tenko narrowly misses it and wails about getting it for Himiko 'next time'. Himiko just sighs, pulls a bouquet out of her hat and hands it to Tenko. They kiss.)
When things are settled and they move into their shared house, that's when the doubts start to creep in.
Marriage is a whole new level of dedication conpared to dating, and Maki really wants to make this work, but she can't help but feel a bit insecure at times.
She was never very sure about the whole 'family' thing, and wonders if she could ever be a good mother to their future children, if they decide to have any.
Whatever she is now, her past as a murderer still remains, and that thought makes her worry that her child might be harmed by her presence.
She's not one to talk about her feelings, but Kaito can pick up the signs whenever she's in a self-deprecating mood and cheer her up.
If she chose to pose as the Ultimate Caretaker for her fake talent, she must be good at children enough to pull the act off, right? Besides, she really doesn't have to stay home - she could always get a job and let Kaito be the stay-at-home parent.
Maki can't really argue with that logic, not when Kaito's giving her the Loving Eyes™ and snuggling up to her on the bed.
Maki ends up getting a job as a professional trainer in a fitness center. She loves her job because she can stay in shape while working, and occasionally she'll get the extra pleasure of decking a creep trying to hit on her across the face.
(Kaito loves it, too, because seeing Maki all sweaty and toned after a day of working out is one hell of a turn-on for him.)
They're the type of couple who still treat each other the same way they did when they were dating.
They regularly go on date nights and spoon feed each other ice cream and make out on the couch, all that cheesy stuff they love to do.
That doesn't change when Maki is finally pregnant, except that Kaito has to take over her job for the following year.
(The patrons miss Maki's super-strict, super-effective training regimen, but they still like Kaito because he's less intimidating and goes easier on them.)
Kaito tries his best to cater to her every craving, but she'll tell him off whenever she suspects he's treating her like she's too fragile to hold herself up. He almost blows a gasket the first time Maki cooks a meal while pregnant, but learns to live with it.
When the baby is finally born, they have to stay at the hospital for an extra three days after Maki's cleared to leave because Kaito needs physical therapy after Maki nearly crushed his metacarpal bones to powder while in labor.
Their child is a girl, with her dad's trademark purple hair showing as she grows. Maki and Kaito argue a bit about whose eyes she has, but they both agree that it's Maki's eyes after witnessing her stare down a particularly loud bird until it got scared and flew away. (She was barely a year old.)
Their daughter loves both science and sports, long purple hair flying in the wind as she straddles a strange realm between 'athlete' and 'nerd'. Kaito made Maki promise not to interfere too much into her social and school life, but that doesn't stop her from sneaking out at night to intimidate the unlucky idiots who dared mock her daughter for being 'too boyish' or that one boy who touched her behind and made her cry.
Kaito does in fact have a clue about this, but lets it slide because he can't really stop her, anyway. As long as nobody becomes grievously harmed or killed, he's fine with it.
They don't want their daughter to learn of Maki's past, even though by now it's but a footnote, perhaps even less, in the happy family life they have, so they spin increasingly fantastic tall tales about Maki whenever the kid asks about it. It doubles as a pretty cool fairy tale collection.
She's a trapeze artist! No, she's a vigilante superhero! She's an angel who got lost on Earth! Or maybe she's an alien from a faraway planet of maki rolls! (That last one earns Kaito a hard slap on his shoulder. Wisely, he drops the story pretty quickly.)
By the time their daughter enters preschool, Maki gingerly suggests that they have a second child.
Kaito is absolutely ecstatic to hear that.
This is their perfect happy life, here with all their love for each other and their kids, and they wouldn't have it any other way.

Bermuda Triangle (Overwatch Hanzo x Mei FanFic)
Mei Ling Zhou, a third-year student at Bermuda University, lazily tapped snowball, her small robotic friend to turn off the alarm she set on it. She was ensconced in her blankets ready to fall back into her deep sleep until snowball splasher her with a mist of cold ice water. Although she was upset she thanked it for the gesture and tiredly crawled out of bed. Her hair was an absolute mess and her glasses were dirty from the all-nighter she pulled with her dorm mates. Angela and Lena were some of her closest friends and luckily her roommates as well. They helped each other study from time even though they aspired to be different things. Angela a pediatrician and Lena, an animator. She cleaned off her glasses and histrionically dragged her body towards the washroom. “UUUuuuggghhh...SNowBALl I don't want to go to class”. The adorable robot nudged her cheeks, squishing them in hopes of making her move faster. To no avail, she continued to slowly shuffle towards the showers and prepped to wash up. She stepped in and closed the glass doors, turned on the water and let a cold stream wake her up. She was used to the freezing temperatures and thought of the climate as comforting instead of alarming and uncomfortable. She wrapped her towel around her body and left the bathroom refreshed. She sat on her bed and began drying her hair. Her towel dropped from her body exposing her curves to the emptiness of her room. Just then she heard a familiar voice from the other side of the door. “Hey love didn't mean to disturb ya, but if you're not ready in the next 15 minutes, we’ll be late.” Lena’s time warning sped up Mei’s process. She threw on some underwear and sweatpants along with an oversized sweater. She quickly put her hair in a top knot and fixed her glasses on her face. She threw her makeup pouch into her shoulder bag and stuffed the lingering books and papers scatted around the room into the bag. The door creaked open to reveal a concerned Angela with a plate of puff pastries slathered with honey. “Dear are you ok? I'm so sorry if the study session was overwhelming. I made breakfast but it's not as hot as it was earlier, you still want it?” Mei’s head snapped as she saw the food. It was still warm and the sweet smell of fresh honey filled the room. She powered down snowball and pushed him into the bag. Snatching the pastry off the plate, she thanked Angela and hurried her out of the room. “Xiè xiè! Now  let's get going we’re gonna be late.” She looked confused. “ What do you mean? We still have 30 minutes until class starts...” Lena’s giggles could be heard from Mei’s room. “It’s the only way she’d hurry up.” A smirk grew on Angela's face as she made her way back to the kitchen area to turn off the lights and handed Mei a napkin to hold her treat. “Well, I guess you could eat on the way to class. We’ll stop by the cafe too since we have all this time.”The two nodded in agreement and turned off the rest of the appliances in the house. She locked the door behind her and walked with the two as she fiddled with snowballs power button.
They made their way down the silent hallway, keeping their conversation to a whisper to avoid any confrontation with any other sleeping students. “So Lena, why’d you want us up at this ungodly hour?” Mei and Angela waited for a response but instead, we’re answered by a familiar voice as they exited the dorms.  “GIRLS! I haven't seen you in a while!” Lucio, one of the music majors attending Bermuda as well as Lena’s love interest. They often spent time on the weekends listening to artists and sketching their thoughts. Although he majored in music, he loved to draw in his free time. Lena greeted him with a giant squeeze while the others waved from a distance. “I didn't want to leave alone and make us look suspicious. I’m taking you with me too Angie!” Angela was once again in a state of confusion as Lena grabbed her hand and ran off with Lucio following suit. Mei was furious. She rushed out of the house with wet hair and a half-eaten pastry to ultimately be left by her friend, her crush, and their love doctor. she angrily bit into the sweet treat and mumbled in her native language so no one knew of the horrible things she thought when she was angry. She walked down the path of the campus, making her way to the cafe. She cooled down while eating the to-go breakfast and talking with Snowball. Just like the dorms, outside was quiet. So silent that you could hear the rustling leaves from chipmunks scampering and the few chirps of birds. Her footsteps on the cobblestone were the loudest of the noises heard. That and the bell that would ring from time to time of the opening cafe doors. This is the time teachers would make their way from the building to grab a quick drink before starting the day with restless students and endless paperwork. She threw the napkin into the nearest trash bin and took a seat on a nearby bench. The cool breeze hit her face, soothing her body and clearing her thoughts. She was no longer upset with her friends (even though she has all the right to be) and had entered a tranquil state, with snowball between her hands. She caressed the robot as it beeped and hummed back to her. For the first time in a while, she felt calm and stress-free. Until she heard two more familiar voices...
(This is chapter 1 of this fic. I’m probably gonna post the rest on Fanfic.net since I just made an account for just entering the Overwatch community. I’m writing this mainly cause there isn't enough Hanmei out there. I’ll probably write some fluffy/smutty one-shots later but for now, this is what’s going on. If you have any ideas feel free to share. BTW this is my first fanfiction so criticism is HIGHLY appreciated)

I would really love to see headcanons of the V3 girls with an s/o that either has a similar talent to them or opposite or something in between. (Like for Maki it could be ultimate combat medic). Ah that is if you want to and if not it's okay. I wish you luck on your imagine blog! Have a nice day! >\\\
These were a lot of fun to write! Hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
- Mod Saihara
Kaede Akamatsu:
You were the Ultimate Conductor, and Kaede was absolutely in love with you and your talent.
She loved collaborating with you to change the way her music sounds and she enjoyed the way you seemed to always be in focus when conducting.
Together you’re like the Music Couple goals, everyone assumes that you two only talk about music and that’s only partially true.
Kaede is constantly talking about you, is she isn’t talking about piano she’s talking about how great you are.
She loves seeing the passion in your eyes as you speak about your favorite groups to conduct and why you love your talent.
And you love hearing Kaede reference her favorite pieces to the situations you find yourselves in.
You would often bring her your favorite songs that you knew might give her a challenge when you conducted for her and that’s another reason Kaede loves you.
Maki Harukawa:
When Maki reveals her talent to you, you can’t help but find yourself to be even more interested in her.
It seems like every time she finds herself getting hurt you’re there to help her and patch her up, as the Ultimate Combat Medic you felt like it was your job.
At first she was quick to push you away, thinking that she wasn’t your responsibility, though she does open up to you more after a while.
You’re the only one she trust enough to take care of her though she won’t directly admit that to you.
Maki finds it cute when you make a worried or nervous expression when she comes home with a bruise or minor cuts, she’s always quick to let you inspect them though.
She hopes that when the time comes she can pay you back correctly for all the help you’ve given her.
Tsumugi Shirogane:
You were the Ultimate Makeup Artist and Tsumugi just knew from hearing about you that you two would get along amazingly.
And she was totally right.
Upon meeting you two automatically attached to each other, telling stories about what you specialized in, Tsumugi explained her favorite cosplays and so on.
She love how neat your makeup was and the fact that you could change someones looks completly was impressive to her.
You guys have the most amazing collaborations, that some might call extra you would call necessary.
When she gets a particularly hard character to copy she’ll ask you to add some face effects to make her an on the dot copy.
She enjoys learning about how you got into your talent and hearing about the different things you’ve done with it.
And the fact that you were into a lot of the same shows and books as her was just the icing on the cake.
Kirumi Tojo:
Ever since meeting her, you admired how seriously Kirumi took her job as the Ultimate Maid, it inspired you to take your talent more seriously as well.
As the Ultimate Assistant you made it your job to work with her and be there whenever she needed you.
Kirumi almost thought that was a bit silly though, I mean she didn’t really have a purpose per say, she was just suppose to help people.
But you wanted to help her?
So she let you, you would mark her appointment and when she had to be where. And she had to admit you were very good at it.
Whenever it came to being productive you two were a force to be reckoned with and some people learned that the hard way.
You two worked together so often that you developed a sort of silent language, for example you could look at her and she would get the idea that it was time to leave.
Tenko Chabashira:
You took pride in being the Ultimate Hopologist, you studied all forms of fighting and as soon as you found out Tenko had made her own form of Aikido you almost fainted from happiness
Tenko enjoyed your presence though she almost had a permanent blush on her face when she was around as you asked her many questions and always seemed interested in her.
Anytime she would start preparing for Neo Aikido you would always start taking notes on what she did and how she moved.
Tenko would get especially embarrassed when you study how strong she was and complement her strength and looks.
And always seemed to smile and giggle when you were around her, you loved her upbeat energy!
You two loved talking about the different sorts of fighting styles and thinking of cool things to incorporate into Tenkos style of Aikido.
Angie Yonaga:
As expected you were the Ultimate Art Critic, and you definitely had a liking towards Angie and her art.
You would always talk to her about the meanings behind her paintings or the feelings she had about them.
And no matter how many times she said “Because Atua said so!” you always asked.
Though Angie didn’t mind! She loved sharing the wisdom of her art and she loved seeing your puzzled face.
As your job was to critic art you would give her a bit of advice now and then, though instead of thanking you she would thank Atua for telling you.
She would sometimes make you artwork that represents you as a person and it’s sweet overall.
Himiko Yumeno:
You were the Ultimate Illusionist! And Himiko did not like you when she first met you if she was being honest.
She thought you were a disgrace to magic as a whole with your “Illusions” gig! You were making her look bad!
But over time she learnt to deal with you, and even found herself curious about that way you performed your illusions and what not.
Himiko found herself enjoying watch you perform and same vise versa. You couldn’t help but look up to the short magician.
She seemed so confident and self-assured! I mean yeah her magic was a bit different than yours but she was a lot cooler!
You both seemed to think the same things about each other which was ironic in a way, but you learned a lot from each other.
Miu Iruma:
Being the SHSL Entrepreneur wasn’t very easy, I mean yeah you had to deal with a lot of business, but you were use to it.
However you weren’t use to being bothered 24/7 by none other than Miu Iruma.
She want your help starting a business for her sleeping products, though you gently declined her each time, giving her a tip or two about her products.
But she kept coming back, at first it was for the possibility yeah sure but after a while she got attached to you.
She began making inventions that actually made sense just to get your opinion on them for real.
And seeing your impressed face was worth it for her, it gave her something to brag about for the week.
You told her if she keeps it up, you two can start a business together!

So,
It may be one of our country’s most iconic pastimes, but since 2012 the number of players registered with Hockey Canada has dropped by over 200,000. With controversies around concussion protocols, headline-making fist fights between parents in the stands and an increasing awareness of the toxic culture that sometimes permeates kids’ ice-time, it’s little wonder the national sport organization is going to extreme lengths to give their pastime a makeover.
In her memoir Home Ice: Confessions of a Reluctant Hockey Mom, Fernie writer Angie Abdou shares the story of watching her son Ollie become a hockey player. A naturally artistic and empathetic preteen, he struggles to make a place for himself at the rink while she watches anxiously from the stands. With a keenly watchful mother’s eye, she picks apart the traditional thinking of those immersed in that world, advocates for her kid and envisions a better way forward. She questions the wisdom of having athletes specialize in one sport early, decries the cruelty of cutting young players from the team and wonders aloud if there’s a way to limit the violence.
“We have elevated sports into a cultural religion,” she writes. “I know how tied up one’s identity can get with success in sport. I know how all-consuming that focus on gold can be. I worry about the transition to post-sport life.”
But this isn’t an anti-hockey screed, as you might assume from reading the opening few chapters. Rather, this is a call to arms for parents to embrace large-scale culture change, focusing on participation and fun rather than competition. She envisions a future for hockey culture that is more inclusive and less fixated on the outcome of reaching the NHL.
According to Hockey Canada’s website, their chances aren’t very good anyway: only 1 in every 4000 players makes the cut.
A contemporary Colosseum
There have been a lot of negative headlines in the hockey world lately, with news of Calgary Flames coach Bill Peters using the “N-word” towards a player, Don Cherry getting fired for making remarks about immigrants and and numerous reports of violent hazing and racist bullying coming from the locker room. Writer and broadcaster Waubgeshig Rice recently shared on Twitter that he was routinely subject to racist taunts, and many others have come out with their stories of abuse.
A few years ago I took a job as a general assignment reporter for the Nelson Star, and ended up covering a local boys’ league called the Leafs. Headed by a belligerent bully coach who would ultimately be fired, the team was a breeding ground for macho entitlement and unnecessary cruelty. I was shocked to learn that the American teams they were playing still had racist names, like the Spokane Braves, and I marvelled at the Colosseum vibe in the arena as they banged their sticks against the boards and shouted epithets at the kids on ice. My distaste for the sport was at its zenith.
When I first picked up Home Ice, I was relieved to find that I wasn’t the only one disgusted by the current state of the sport and questioning whether things could be done better. And as I delved into the pages, following Abdou’s experience shepherding Ollie through a sometimes hostile environment, I found many of my particular issues being addressed head-on. If hockey culture is ever going to evolve from its barbaric past, it’s going to take buy-in from pretty much everyone: spectators, parents, players and coaches. Just as Rome’s gladiator fights have been phased out and replaced, it’s time for hockey culture to invest real time and money into making their sport appropriate for the present day.
And once I started spelunking around the Hockey Canada website, checking out the many ambitious initiatives they have underway to radically tweak the culture, I was heartened to find out they haven’t been sitting on their hands —just the opposite. Long before Abdou’s book was released, they knew they had to alter course. But like trying to turn a giant steamship, it’s not as easy as a quick pivot. Instead it requires diligent long-term attention from professionals who care about the well-being of the athletes.
Reasons to hope
In Home Ice, Abdou explores the consequences the Graham James sex scandal had on her brother Justin Abdou.
“In my story, my brother sidestepped any true ugliness. In my story, my brother saw James for what he was and knew enough to steer clear … The subtext implies that the sort of horror inflicted on Theo Fleury and the other players under James’ charge happens to people different from us, people less alert, less strong,” she writes, before learning the truth —that her brother had narrowly avoided being sexually assaulted by him as a teen.
“Let’s revise my history then: my heroic brother — who brings to mind my own son in a way I find very uncomfortable — was never immune from this particular personification of evil.”
But there is also reason to hope that the culture is improving, epitomized by the work Sheldon Kennedy and his organization Respect Group are doing to talk about subjects that were formerly verboten. By providing mandatory e-learning resources and launching campaigns to raise awareness about abuse, he’s working to ensure that organizations don’t create the sort of toxic, abusive environments that he grew up in. Part of that means establishing safeguards to ensure predators can’t take advantage of those less powerful than they are.
And even in Nelson, where I was initially horrified by the culture I experienced, progress is being made to create a more inclusive and supportive culture. One of the coaches, Sean Dooley, has championed a mental health program called Breakout that aims to disrupt these unhealthy cycles. Having experienced abuse that led to destructive behaviours in his own life, he’s now on the frontlines of making things better for his players. The more Sean Dooleys and Sheldon Kennedys we have in the world, and the less Graham James, the better our hockey system will become.
Something you can’t have
As hockey culture improves, one thing that needs to be addressed is accessibility. Abdou notes that it’s a rich person’s sport, historically inaccessible to people of a lower income. Even innovative programs that aim to foster inclusion often fall short. In Home Ice she writes about one such program, First Shift, which bankrolls the kids’ first years in the sport but then doesn’t continue into the rest of their career.
“First Shift gives these kids a taste of the sport: here is something you can’t have … it’s become a cheque-book sport available only to the well off,” she writes. “Research shows that … ninety percent of Canadian children miss out on the benefits of the sport and participating in the culture of hockey so synonymous with Canadian.”
This is a hurdle that many within the system are trying to address, but progress has been slow. Those who love the sport would like to see as many people involved as possible, from every facet of society, but don’t know how to bankroll that. In order to change this, and to address the many issues the hockey world is facing, some organizations have gotten proactive about making incremental changes to their systems. That includes BC Hockey.
“There’s a lot of traditional thought processes in hockey culture, and many people feel that things have always been done a certain way and there’s been a success to it. But at the same time we can sometimes lose sight of the bigger picture and it is important to embrace new ideas,” said BC Hockey’s Vice President of Programs Sean Raphael.
The way Raphael imagines it, we’ll be studying the successes of their institutional makeover to see the impact on an entire generation of kids. This information will be crucial for organizations as they make decisions moving forward.
“Overall long-term athlete development is a general concept that doesn’t just apply to hockey, it applies to all participants’ lives and their physical development. It may differ from one sport to the next, but I think the general concept of developing the overall athlete is a good place to start.”
Mobilizing solutions
At last year’s Sport for Life Canadian Summit, Abdou shared with delegates from across the country and did a reading of Home Ice. She was invited with the hope that her observations could be a catalyst for change. And though some of her opinions may have come across as incendiary or controversial, she was embraced by representatives from the hockey world largely because they agreed with her verdicts. They know concussions are a problem, they know bullying and racism are a problem, and they know there are better ways to implement the long-term development framework. Change takes time, but at least they’re getting started.
In an environment that sometimes rejects outside-the-box thinking, Abdou’s contribution was a breath of fresh air that had a large impact for those in attendance. They saw that she wasn’t only identifying problems; she was also offering solutions. By championing Kaizen, which means ceaseless self-improvement, she has given Hockey Canada deep analysis from outside their system that has the potential to create real change.
Next up: the hard work of putting her suggestions into action.
