Tumblr media
you’re on my FUCKING PINTEREST FEED
Mutual on the pinterest! Hi from your pinterest feed :3--I wonder if this is the same post on pinterest someone else saw or if it's been reposted multiple times. I suppose both are possible
The fun thing about this post is that every so often I'll get notes on it, a series of people having deep, emotional damage moments in my tags meanwhile I'm seeing those tags in my notifs while I'm like. laughing my ass off making the stupidest shitposts imaginable. I feel like that awkward glance monkey puppet meme. They're all having this moment and I'm just here in a totally different mood because I've come to terms with many of the feelings this post was inspired by
But enough about that! I love when people encounter this post in the wild so thank you very much for telling me. It's cool to see how far its spread. hope you're doing well!
#quil's queries#even-if-in-another-time#all caps#another thing is every time I see this post I feel bad about including the part about my mom yelling#because like. its true but I feel like only knowing that mischaracterizes her#and every time I see it I wanna go my mother is a wonderful supportive kind attentive person#like yes she yelled at me when I was little but when I kept telling her not to (she didn't think she was yelling#because she grew up in a household with screaming and she thought /that/ was yelling. she realized that little me#didn't have that experience so to me she /was/ yelling at me)#she listened and reflected and went yeah you know what? I don't like that I'm doing that I'm going to change. and she did!#she is a very. how do I explain. she's always open to criticism and actually enacting it to be a better person#both my parents ended cycles from their childhoods and I'm very grateful for it. they're wonderful#and i feel like that one line makes her sound so much worse and i feel so bad about it i'm sorry mom#i was in a mood when I wrote it I'm sorry :(#anyway. i got way off track here#love my parents. willing to share because some of y'all post worrying things#also love my sister. though she's at the age where she withdraws from the world and finds herself and sorts herself out#so like. waiting patiently for her to do so to hopefully forge a better bond :)#I'm still getting off track damn#i'm in a chatty mood i have a lot of energy with no direction hmm#this could end badly

I honestly hate how the fandom treats Michael as a hero and I'm seeing posts about it so I feel a liiiittle better talkign about it
my moots are holding back, i can tell. but hes my favorite so im not. and im a little pissed writing this bc. bc i relate to cc a lot. and seeing ppl mischaracterize not only my favorite character but also someone who reminds me of people who fucking suck drives me INSANE.
so psa, im pissed as fuck and i love michael afton.
First off, he killed Evan. That's obvious. Not only was that literall 100% his fault (NOT WILLIAMS IT PISSES ME OFF WHEN PPL MAKE THAT ALL ABOUT WILLIAM SHUT THE FUVCK UP
he was a bully. yeah he was a kid. yeah he was messing with him. Have you considered he was literally. abusive to his brother. i know the fnaf fandom is scared of using that word to describe him but its fucking true. he was abusive. as fuck. that was awful what he did he wasnt just a bully he harassed him and literally locked him in his room. he was fucking horrible.
and yeah, he didnt mean for that to happen, but not only was that stupid as fuck, i hate any interpritation of "he wanted to be like his dad" "his friends coerced him" PLAY FNAF 4. PLAY FNAF 4. FUCKING PLAY FNAF 4 LOOK AT HIS DIALOGUE AND WHAT HE DOES
HE LITERALLY. EGGED IT ON. IT WAS HIS FUCKING IDEA. WHAT PART OF THAT GAVE "he was coerced" THUSHFUDFUDSIOFDUSOFDSIOS
im trying to be normal
Yeah he probably felt like shit after. yeah it probably was some sort of motivator behind his actions. but lets think. lets think.
fnaf 1 and 2 take place before SL, no? So. if thats true. why didnt he burn those down? to "free the souls?" because it was never about the children.
he burned down the fnaf 3 location to get rid of william. it was ALWAYS abotu william. sure he set the kids free but i reeeeaaallyy dont think that was his intention. it was always about william.
in sister location, did he go there out of the kindness of his heart? no he went there because william asked him too. it was ALWAYS about william. and yeah he probably wanted to help liz, he probably really wanted to help her, but based on his actions, was this really for her? or was it for closure
thats something about michael that i put in shitty brother. closure. he didnt actually want to reconcile with his family, he wanted closure on the guilt he felt. is that 100% wrong? no. its normal to want closure, especially after something like that. but also that should not be his goal
did he apologize? yes. he said sorry. he felt bad, sure. but when you kill someone tehy dont come back. evan deserves to never forgive him ever because that was dumb as fuck and HORRIBLE. IT WAS HORRIBLE. ABUSIVE. ILL SAY IT AGAIN
MICHAEL AFTON ABUSED HIS LITTLE BROTHER FOR NO FUCKING REASON.
yeah. abused. say it with me. A-B-U-S-E-D
not just bullied, not just harassed, ABUSED.
ik we're all scared to say it here but its fucking true. say it with ur chest.
this always came back to william. do i thinkk michael is unfeeling and doesnt care about his siblings at all? NO! I think his siblings drove a lot of his actions. but in the end i dont think he always acted with their best interest at heart. or the mci kids'
and the whole "he wanted to be like his dad" i dont fucking care actually. no seriously sit down beside me and tell me that wanting to be like his dad is an excuse for abusing his brother. seriously come closer i wont bite.
tell me how you think that AS A TEENAGER, 100% AWARE OF HIS ACTIONS, that wanting to be like his dad justifies abusing his little brother. his little brother. who as far as we know, never lashed out, never fought back, never did anything to him. tell me how he fucking deserved that
"Michael was just a kid!" so was Evan. So was Elizabeth. So was Cassidy and Charlie and all the kids who died.
tell me how much michael did that didnt revolve around closure and his father. like i get it, he had priorities, but can we please stop acting like he's some angel working for the greater good of everyone.
it feelslike how ppl treat fucking henry. NO HES NOT A GOOD PERSON PLEASE
MICHAEL IS SELFISH HE'S MESSY HE'S STUPID. HE MAKES BAD CHOICES IN FAVOR OF HIMSELF HE PRIORITIZES REVENGE OVER THE GREATER GOOD HE HURTS PEOPLE AND IT MAKES HIM SO MUHC MORE INTERESTING
oh and also in case anybody wants to pull dittophobia out and tell me how mike went thru that trauma
so did evan. and instead of bonding over that trauma, michael harassed him. ABUSED HIM. wording is important. im sorry for repeating myself so much, but nobody ever tells it how it is. it was abuse.
edit: People seem upset by my wording and honestly? fair. i couldve worded this a lot better but i was tired and irritated and one thing i will clarify
i dont care if u dont see adult michael the way i do. i see him as a selfish obsessive guy whos intent is to fix his family, but plenty of people see it differently and thats okay! /gen
but im not taking back anythign i said about teen michael. because i think to do that is unfair to his character and frankly bullshit. i think its bullshit. and i dont care if you disagree. he was a terrible brother and thats that
but adult mike is free real estate idk idrc abt him as much as teen mike.

im kinda worried about how jophie is gonna progress in the series, martin already has a habit of forgetting things about his charactes like their heights but i would also not be surprised if he forgot like actually important scenes with his characters like that one jophie dialogue on findjackwalten. im worried he's like completely lost the plot on how jenny and sophie should be
Tumblr media
I never want to be needlessly mean, because I don't think it's ever very appropriate or helpful, but I can't lie this is honestly an insane thing to say. To me. Like idk. I don't think forgetting or misremembering something as innocuous as a character's height is indicative of a person being able to forget entire major elements of their story and thus completely mischaracterizing the main characters of their series.
Also, I guess you wouldn't know this, because I think it's only been brought up in spaces once or twice, but Martin does have character docs. He absolutely has means of keeping track of important info. Maybe not every minute detail is on them, and that's why slip ups happen, or maybe he just isn't constantly consulting his Character Bible when having off-the-cuff conversations with his friends about his OCs. Like. Its Ok. I'm sure when he gets to the actual in-series character writing he's going to be a little more thoughtful and attentive with regards to getting things right.
Also this 'mean and defensive' aspect of Sophie's character has absolutely been a part of her the entire time. I can't really back this up with Receipts or anything, but I really do think the way Martin's talked about her, like, historically, has evidenced this. Still, I think it's true that those more rough-around-the-edges aspects of Sophie have evolved over the years to become much larger parts of her character than they maybe were in the past. I'm sure that relative 'shyness' was something intended for her as well, but I think it's definitely transformed into something more firmly 'staunchly antisocial' than like, 'softhearted shygirl', y'know?
I just also think it's true that Martin personally finds it very funny when people misunderstand his characters, like old fanon characterization of Jack, and old fanon characterization of Sophie, and intentionally does not correct people, because he likes to imagine their surprise at seeing how the character actually behaves in the series. Which is like, fine. I agree with him, that's really fun and funny.
Also, like, this feels like a silly thing to point out, but specifically with regards to the Findjackwalten dialogue, it's like. I don't know. That dialogue doesn't dictate the character's personalities, the characters personalities dictated that dialogue, y'know? It's not like how, for the fandom, we learn more about how those characters behave from that piece of writing and our interpretation of them is changed by it. Like, even in a scenario where Martin forgets the specifics of what he had them say and how he had them interact in those scenes, or even if he manages to forget about those scenes' existence entirely, I don't think that's going to meaningfully change Sophie & Jenny as characters, because it was his understanding of them and their relationship that caused those scenes to be what they are, not the other way around.

One of the biggest reasons I think IzuOcha is 'not' the endgame pairing is because of how intentionally underdeveloped it is!!
Tumblr media
I mean look at this example:
Ochako was just thinking about Deku in a completely platonic sense and everyone made it an IzuOcha moment, like why?
What part of it screams romantic?
A Relationship is between two people but in this case, Izuku is not even looking at her. It has always been her and her alone, struggling to walk through her feelings of low self esteem and confidence.
Plus there are other people in the background! If you truly love someone, only that person matters...and not the rest but Deku is standing there looking at someone (most probably Katsuki) and the rest of class 1A is standing with him.
_._._
Remember this famous scene from when future Lucy died?
Tumblr media
What makes this memory special is the fact that this is Natsu's POV. She is looking at him, flashing a beautiful smile, reminding Natsu what he needs to protect from now on!
THIS IS ROMANTIC!!
Or when Natsu thought about Lucy in the GMG...
Tumblr media
You know the drill.
In Ochako's case, she doesn't need to win for Izuku. She needs to win for herself and save her fellow heroes from Toga and even Toga from herself.
"Now Ochako will just confess her undying love to Deku in the epilogue"
Are we reading the same manga? Why would she even do that? She doesn't like Deku that way and would never wanna hurt Toga, the person she's trying so hard to save!
Speaking of which, if Ochako loved Deku and planning on going after him , she wouldn't be so okay with confronting Toga because Toga just confessed to Deku and got hurt. So, if Ochako gets together with Deku, wouldn't it hurt Toga even more?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toga genuinely loved Deku, even to the point where Danger sense failed to detect any malice within her, and she got rejected. So if Ochako is willing to voluntarily give her blood to Toga for the rest of her life, why would she be with the person that hurt Toga?
Toga was hurt by Deku's rejection and Ochako told her that she should never hide her feelings or that beautiful face of hers just because some boy rejected her.
Plus if she really wanted to confess she had all the time and moment to do so. There was literally a perfect moment, during the cliff scene when they both knew they could die tomorrow and yet none of them chose to close the distance between them. Instead, they chose to talk about their nemesis and how they will stop them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
.
"Ochako will show her true feelings for Deku after this"
Ochako stopped hiding her feelings a long time ago! STOP MISCHARACTERIZING HER!!
Tumblr media
Another reason could be, because Deku knows the best to hide his true feelings behind a mask. Dark Deku Arc is the perfect example. He hid behind his own mask and suffered for everyone else's sake.
It could also reflect on the promise she made with Deku on Okuto Island, that she'll get Toga and he could go get Shigaraki.
Tumblr media
Plus, Toga told Ochako that Twice was like a brother to her and we know that Ochako and Toga are supposed to be similar. Meaning Deku and Twice are also supposed to mirror each other!
And then there are literally thousands of BkDk shippers screaming online on why it is the endgame pairing with its various proofs and theories.
So, with all that being said, I don't know what people who say 'IzuOcha is the endgame pairing' are thinking.
*sigh*
Cheers! Sunshine!

Catching and Falling
Pairing: Satoru Gojo & Fem Reader (platonic)
Length: 2.7k words
Summary: Satoru Gojo is not quite sure how he feels about you, the child that took his beloved babysitter away from him. AKA the pomegranate ink prequel mini one shot nobody asked for, featuring Gojo and Y/N’s relationship before she joins Tokyo Jujutsu Tech.
Warnings: minor swearing, gen fic, makes more sense with knowledge of pomegranate ink but ig could technically be read without that
A/N: Something completely random based off of Gojo mentioning during the exchange event chapters that Mrs. L/N used to babysit him before Y/N was born!! I am VERY scared of writing Gojo so Gojo stans please be gentle about me mischaracterizing him horribly 😭🙏🏻 I did my best
Satoru Gojo stood in the dimly lit hallway of the L/N manor and craned his neck, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible when peering through the open door. It was not the child that everyone was cooing over that he was trying to see; in fact, it was someone else entirely.
“Satoru! Did you want to hold the baby?” his mother said, noticing his curious gaze. His expression immediately dropped into a scowl as he was forcibly handed that thing.
“Where’s Mrs. L/N?” he grumbled, glaring at the baby in his arms, which gazed up at him with large, adoring eyes. It was a dainty and tiny creature, like a little dove, entirely unaware of the vitriol he held for it. He was tempted to throw it across the room, but it would not do for the almost-twelve-years-old heir of the Gojo name to toss around the child which might one day stand beside him as the head of its own clan.
“She’s resting,” his mother said. “It’s hard to be the mother to an infant, you know.”
“When can I see her again? I don’t like the other people who watch me. Mrs. L/N was nicer,” he said.
Mrs. L/N, the mother of this child — she had belonged to Satoru first, hadn’t she? She had told him that he was her favorite person in the whole entire world, allowed him to have extras of everything she made for him, turned on movies he wasn’t supposed to watch and ate popcorn as they made fun of the characters. She was only ever supposed to be his babysitter. So why’d she have to go and have a baby of her own?
“Likely not for a while,” his mother said. “She’ll be far too busy with this one.”
“That’s not fair,” Satoru said. “Tell her she has to spend time with me.”
“She is a L/N, not a Gojo,” his mother said. “It’s not our place to demand things of her. If you really want to see her in the future, you could marry this one.”
She pointed at the baby, which was still held securely in his arms. It was a good thing it was so secure, too, because his mother’s words almost made him drop it as he gagged.
“It’s a baby,” he said.
“A baby that will one day become a woman capable of using the Reverse Cursed Technique and maybe even healing entire armies with it,” his mother said with a shrug. “Allying our clan with the L/Ns would be a smart move, so I doubt your father would have anything to say about it, and then your precious Mrs. L/N would be your mother-in-law.”
“But it’s a baby,” he insisted. The baby shifted in his arms, blinking lazily at him, perhaps mesmerized by the bright blue of his irises.
“She will grow older,” his mother said.
“So will I,” Satoru said. “I don’t wanna marry it. That’s gross.”
“It is a she, and she has a name, by the way,” his mother said.
“What is it?” he said, though he didn’t really care. He just was getting that sense that his mother wanted him to ask and wouldn’t let him go until he did, so he jutted out his chin and waited for her to answer.
“Y/N,” she said.
Satoru’s eyes widened. There was only one person who could’ve chosen that name: Mrs. L/N herself, who had been enamored with the story of the Heian sorcerer Y/N, the woman that had died sealing Sukuna before being revived by her husband, one of the healers of the L/N clan.
Abruptly, he handed the baby back to his mother. If it was true that Mrs. L/N really loved the thing more than she loved him, then he wanted nothing to do with it at all.
☆彡
“Gojo!” the toddler shouted, chasing after him — well, chasing was being generous, he was walking at a medium pace while she wobbled desperately to keep up — and reaching out her chubby little arms in his direction.
“Leave me alone!” he said. Technically, as the now-head of the Gojo clan, he should be attending the meeting with the rest of the higher ups, but he had been told in no uncertain terms that he was a child and ought to play outside with the rest of the children. When he argued that he was a teenager, they laughed and said that that was actually worse before slamming the door on his face and locking it to ensure that he could not get inside.
With a sigh, he deactivated his Infinity and crouched, wondering if they’d find him mature for entertaining the little girl. She began to babble in delight, fingers opening and closing when she reached him, tugging on his clothes, his hair, and his ears. He scowled but did nothing more, finding it to be too much effort to tell her to stop. What an irritant. How did the poor Mrs. L/N deal with having such an insufferable being at her side constantly? He was sure that she regretted it all now.
“Gojo,” she said again. That was the one thing she seemed able to say with confidence, and he patted her on the head for it.
“That’s right, Gojo. That’s me,” he said, pointing towards himself before pointing towards the locked door where the higher ups were having their meeting without him. “And the people in there? They’re assholes. Can you repeat after me? Ass-holes.”
“Ass-holes,” she parroted.
“Oh, shit,” he said as he realized he had just taught Y/N how to swear. Now he would never be allowed into a meeting of the higher ups.
“Shi — shit?” she said, stumbling over the foreign word and tilting her head at him as if seeking out his approval. His already pale face went even whiter, and he began to make the cut-it-out motion.
“Nope, no, stop saying those things! Stop it! What would Mrs. L/N do if she heard you?” he said with a groan. To make matters worse, the door squealed open, and the higher ups filed out, still chatting amongst themselves about whatever had happened during the meeting.
“Ah, Satoru, thank you for watching Y/N, you really didn’t have to do that!” Mr. L/N said, swooping his daughter up into his arms. “I hope she wasn’t too much of a bother.”
“Um, no, she was fine,” Satoru said faintly, his head spinning as he realized this might actually be the end for him. Every single important person in jujutsu society was gathered there, and though he didn’t necessarily care about their opinions of him, they had the capabilities to make his life incredibly difficult if he made them upset.
“Papa,” the toddler said proudly. “Ass-holes!”
The room grew deathly silent. Mr. L/N’s jaw dropped, and he narrowed his eyes at Y/N, who was entirely unaffected by the tense atmosphere, giggling to herself about whatever it was that dumb little kids found amusing.
“Darling, who taught you that word?” Mr. L/N said.
Don’t say it don’t say it don’t say it don’t —
“Gojo!”
Fuck.
He decided then and there that he would never have children.
☆彡
Satoru hated the stupid parties that he was forced to attend under the guise of being a good clan head. He usually tried to slip away as soon as he had finished eating, but today was different; namely, that annoying thing was following him once again.
“Gojo, your glasses are so cool,” she said. “Can I see them? Huh, can I? Please please please can I try wearing them?”
“How about you please please please try bothering someone else?” he snapped. “The twins are your age, and Noritoshi Kamo isn’t that much older. Play with them!”
“But my father said I’m not to associate with the Zenin twins in case their uselessness rubs off on me, and Noritoshi Kamo is too busy to play with me, so I can’t! Also, my mother said that you were really super duper nice and cool, so that’s why I’m following you around,” Y/N said. He froze at the mention of Mrs. L/N, whose face was the first he thought of when someone asked him about his mother.
“Fine,” he said, taking off his glasses and placing them on her face, ignoring the stabbing pain in his head as his Six Eyes were exposed to the harshness of the world. “There.”
“Do I look nice? Do I look like you?” she said. “I can’t see anything, so you have to tell me.”
“You look —” He was going to say stupid, but it would be a little uncharitable for him to call her that to her face. “Not as cool as I do.”
That got the job done. And it was true, to boot; there was just no way that he looked quite as ridiculous as she did with them on, the black lenses too large, dominating her face and giving her an owlish appearance.
“Nuh-uh, I bet I look even cooler!” she whined.
“Impossible,” Satoru said with a snort. “No one’s as cool as me.”
“Y/N! Come say hello to Noritoshi, won’t you?”
“Oh, it sounds like my father is calling me. Can you help?” she said, feeling around blindly for the door. He watched in amusement before bending over and plucking the glasses from her face, putting them back on and smiling slightly at the relief they provided.
“Hey, wait, Y/N. Does your mother mention me a lot?” he said. Surely she must have. After all, he had been her favorite person growing up, so of course she regaled her daughter with tales of their time together.
“Nope! I don’t even think she knows who you are?” she said, voice ticking up in that way characteristic of children, as if everything they were saying was a question. Satoru tried to fathom this, a world where Mrs. L/N did not even recognize him. Mr. L/N never brought her to clan meetings or parties, so he had not seen her since Y/N had been born…had she forgotten about him entirely? In such a short time?
Y/N. It was definitely Y/N’s fault. Though it was petty, he stuck his tongue out at the girl’s disappearing back and hoped for something equally as horrible to happen to her.
☆彡
A few days later, the news came out that Y/N L/N showed no aptitude for the Reverse Cursed Technique. The failure of the L/N clan, she was lambasted as an embarrassment akin to Ogi Zenin’s twin daughters Maki and Mai.
Satoru thought it must be his fault for cursing the girl. Every night, he’d feverishly whisper apologies to whatever deity he had accidentally contacted, telling them that it was alright, he didn’t care that much, it was fine that Mrs. L/N didn’t remember him as long as they gave Y/N the Reverse Cursed Technique back.
It was all for nothing, because of course it was not actually his doing; whether Y/N L/N could use her family’s Composition had been determined at her birth, and nothing he could do or think or say would change that. Still, Satoru stared at his hands and felt something like guilt whenever her small face crossed his mind.
☆彡
Y/N L/N stopped coming to meetings and parties after that. They were trying to hide her away, he reasoned. It made sense. It was probably what he would’ve done, if that was his situation. They would try to make it like the girl and her mother had never existed, and then she’d be quietly married off to someone like Noritoshi Kamo in the hopes that she’d strengthen their bloodline enough to make her entire measly existence worth something.
He found he missed her. She had been a pain, but she had reminded him of her mother in some way. And…and she was definitely annoying, but it had been kind of nice, having someone look at him the way she did, all awed and genuine, with no ulterior motives behind it. She didn’t really care that he was the head of his clan or the holder of the Six Eyes and Limitless. She thought he was cool just because he was himself.
☆彡
“Say, do you have any siblings?” Suguru said. It was an entirely random question, one Satoru thought he must’ve answered already, but then again, it wasn’t something that came up very often, so maybe that was why he was asking.
“Yeah, one,” Satoru said. “Little sister.”
“Really? I’m an only child,” Suguru said, a hint of jealousy entering his voice. “What’s she like?”
“Dunno,” Satoru said. “I haven’t seen her in years.”
☆彡
Maybe there was something to be said for the fact that when everything went wrong, he did not wish for his mother to come back. It was Mrs. L/N’s face he pictured, her in her youth, when his parents would leave him at the L/N manor for days on end. That bright-eyed woman, the only one who had ever cared about him, the singular person who treated him like a child instead of a god — he cried and he cried and he wished she was there to wipe away his tears and tell him it wasn’t his fault, tell him it was alright that he couldn’t save everyone, tell him she did not blame him for any of it.
His own mother had never loved him, anyways. To her, he was not Satoru but Gojo, as he was to everyone else. He did not resent his power, but everything else that came with it was like a poisoned barb in his skin, so painful that occasionally, he wished he had been born a L/N instead.
☆彡
Y/N L/N was to marry Noritoshi Kamo. He was not quite sure what the girl thought about it; to his knowledge, Noritoshi was kind and gentle and handsome, so there was no real reason for her to complain — besides the fact that she was being forced into it.
It seemed that that was enough. It was obvious to anyone with eyes (and Satoru had six of them, so imagine how obvious it was to him) that she was unhappy, and Noritoshi was no better. They were two children pretending to be in love for the sake of politics, and the sight was actually sickening. Especially because it was her, that girl he had known since her infancy, the one whose mother he loved like she was his own.
That was why he followed her out onto the balcony when she left after Naoya Zenin or some other such unimportant person made a crass comment about her relationship with her fiancé. He wasn’t sure what, exactly, he could say to make it better, but he wanted to say something. To give her some kind of agency, to free her before the chains that bound her mother wrapped around her as well. Because he understood, now, that it had never been poor little Y/N’s fault that Mrs. L/N had had to stop seeing him — it had been the clans, the L/Ns as a unit, who had reduced the woman to nothing but Y/N’s mother, and Y/N to nothing but a failure, and Satoru to nothing but a tool with which they could exorcise curses. And after all, tools were not supposed to need love, and failures were not supposed to need freedom, and mothers were not supposed to need anything.
Fuck that.
She was about to jump, or maybe not. Maybe she was just enjoying the night air and the distant fragrance of the nearby gardens and the stars hanging in the sky. He wasn’t sure, but his heart leapt in his throat at the thought of this girl, this Y/N L/N, dying. He did not want that. He did not want it to happen in that way.
“I won’t catch you if you fall, you know,” he said casually, conversationally, as easily as if he was talking about the weather. That was because it was a lie.
He definitely would.

Note
Read somewhere that the only reason Terry Silver was shown to be kind towards his staff, namely helping Carla at the begining of Season 4, was because he's been through therapy and mellowed his ways or some crap. Like Terry Silver was ever unkind towards his staff even before therapy?? He was there chilling with his secretary in the 80's and talking to her like a friend from his tub at the height of him being coked out of his mind. Truth is, Terry was always nice and oddly nice towards his employees. That is just fact. Okay, sorry, rant over.
Agreed.
I think Terry Silver just has gallant, old money manners in general when he wishes to --- he has them the way one has a weapon; he can produce and utilize it whenever and however he sees fit because a battle can be fought with many tools, and he's a master of all at his disposal --- and this includes the time pre-therapy, post-therapy, mid-therapy, in the 80's, 90's, 00's, present day, whenever, however. Always. I think him being the typical evil rich guy shouting at the pool boy or something is a gross mischaracterization and blatantly missing the point.
Out of character galore.
He is nice towards his people. Emphasis on the his. Those he pays. Keeps around. Those he trusts to run his household(s) and mansions. His tasks. His businesses. Important chunks of his life, if we're honest. A wise man once said it is prudent to be polite towards the one tasked and charged with serving you your food, because one never knows how they could tamper with it and this is a belief I feel Terry firmly holds to. Don't shit where you eat. Quite literally. Don't openly mistreat your staff because you never know ways in which they can retalliate and if he loathes one thing it is having no control over someone's actions and it so happens, being nice affords you a lot of control. He might be shouting at a Dynatox agent half way across the world, but he isn't going to shout at someone bringing him his cocktail and placing it down on the edge of his jacuzzi, because one is far away and the other could be an immediate threat.
What kind of captain wants mutiny inside of his ship?
And I do think that all his life, he was actually a surprisingly good boss to work under when one filters out everything else about him and just exists in that liminal space where he's a boss and someone's a worker --- he's bafflingly okay as an authority figure, creepily so --- shockingly so, all things considered, to the point that if some maid working for him was told all about his otherwise bad dealings and practices, she might not even believe it because Mr. Silver is just the salt of the earth and it rings true in the 70's, 80's, present day and constantly. He might even come off as oddly relaxed and jovial at times and that being his underling came with some amazing perks and rewards, so long as you don't cross lines, fail him and betray him, of course.
Naturally.
Even then, I picture Terry smarmy enough to where he can cleverly gaslight and convince the one who failed it is their doing and that he's taking disciplinary actions because he was given no choice. Truly, regretful. Ah, well. Hell, he might have them apologizing to him. But, this chastising usually never has him raising his tone. Not once. He is nice. He understands niceness, like one understands a cavity in their tooth and the outline of its shape when they push the tip of their tongue inside of it.
N i c e.
He is nice.
Margaret Spencer chats with him while he's bathing and one almost gets the impression of friendship and intimacy with all the mutual teasing going on, on equal footing --- like an elderly aunt from overseas berating her unruly American nephew. She is never subjegated or submissive, because Terry is nice, and Terry seems infinitely amused by their interactions. Milos knows Terry Silver's contacts enough to address John Kreese and ask him if he wants coffee right from the threshold of the door. With Snake and Dennis, we aren't certain if they're just some kids that co-habitate under his roof, if they're proteeges, his own personal wind-up jesters, his hired thugs or all four. Even with Mike Barnes back in the days, the way he initially greets him is genuinely inviting, offering the chance of a lifetime, with all the rewards and opportunities it entails; sponsoring him, cheekily sharing pleasantaries, joking around offering him cars, welcoming him to LA, giving him allowance like an overly (and worryingly kind) host.
This isn't nessecarily a bad boss. Not on the surface. Not until he's crossed.
This can all coexist with the fact that he was still a morally repugnant and corrupt individual who relished in the pain of others, but I don't think Terry needed therapy to be genuinely polite towards his people or to understand the power of charm and the perks of some hefty lovebombing, because he didn't need to therapy to understand a gallant approach inspires awesome loyalty that can't be bought with mere money. So, no, I don't think there's an era in his life, in truth, where he wouldn't help a maid or approach them with this disarmingly cavalier attitude where the staff themselves aren't certain if Mr. Silver is just the nicest man ever or if they're imagining things. Mr. Silver is almost like a...friend. Working for him is like being in a family.

Another annoying thing I see said by people defending the choice to have Claude and Edelgard team up is the idea that Edelgard "respects Claude's position as leader, unlike the Church."
That'd be just another thing Hopes mischaracterizes, this time about Edelgard: she literally flat out says in 3H that she doesn't think Claude would make a competent ruler on her route. There's a conversation she and Byleth have about him, and if you the player call him a jokester she'll say "That much is obvious." If you say he'd make a good king, she'll say "Interesting... I never thought of him like that."
So either Edelgard is lying in Hopes (meaning she told another lie to Claude's face) or she's acting OOC. Which really shouldn't matter anyway because Claude should already see that as the ploy to get on his good side it clearly is. If he was really so insecure about his rulership that a known liar fluffing up his ego is enough to get him to listen then he's clearly not as smart as the game wants me to think he is. There's no way he got through the Roundtable meetings as its leader being that gullible! This whole take is just trash.
I've seen this/your argument before, actually! It's true that in Houses she doesn't even really seem to consider him a threat of any sort. In Hopes I do think she sees him as more of a threat (based on how she reacts to losing battles against him), but I don't really see respect. Also, Claude does mention they're just using each other. I don't think he particularly respects her either if the only reason he saved her life was "to have her in his debt".
I also wouldn't be surprised if Edelgard said nice sounding things to persuade him more, because especially in GW, when she's the one losing she would want to fluff up his ego as much as possible. Seeming cold and haughty would only put her in a worse situation. I personally don't feel like they respect each other because at every moment they discuss things in both routes, they have opposite views (and seem surprised by each other’s views in a “that’s not good” way).
Obviously there's how to deal with Fodlan and the war and all that's different, but even in Hopes you have Claude saying he plans to kill Rhea and Edelgard doesn't agree with it. Though I know a lot of fans say that's a reverse of Houses and don't like it because it mischaracterizes them and their Houses routes, it's still an instance of a lack of agreement or being on the same page. Even if you characterize them correctly, they still wouldn't still be on the same page.
As far as acting ooc, I could see it tbh. This game changed Edelgard a bit in the sense of making her less... I guess resolute, in a sense? In Houses she's a lot more fierce, but they definitely went the unfortunate uwu route in Hopes. It's like they decided if she was going to be happier in this game that it just meant needing to woobify her completely in any possible way, including having all her comrades agreeing with her and seeing everything her way (including Dorothea and Ferdinand, which is not the case in CF even if they do stand by her in that route. They still express their grievances even if they do follow her path). A lot of the way they wrote Edelgard came off to me as an attempt to make her more soft and not as stern. Her general beliefs were the same, but what they had her doing wasn't.
Also, the Church... doesn't not respect Claude's leadership. In Houses, they actually do. In Hopes, they don't interact with him enough to disrespect him. Just because the Church didn't give their Feduwuation its blessings (because why would it lol, there's a reason I still firmly refer to them as the Alliance in all my second half GW asks) doesn't mean they just don't respect him as a leader. The only point in which they would outright stop respecting his leadership is when... he started attacking the Church and invading a land that did nothing to their land.
Actually, Rhea says she's disappointed in Claude when they fight in GW, so... she obviously had higher expectations of him than stooping to being Edelgard's personal murder machine. Not just that but Claude doesn't even think for himself with any of this. It's just about "maybe Edelgard will do this" and "maybe Fodlan will do that". He doesn't think about his personal views, why others do what they do (like being church goers), etc. What he does isn't personally motivated and he's running around doing all this in hopes Edelgard won't attack them later... even though he knows she's going to??? And admits that outright???
So yeah, that whole Edelgard's view of him versus the Church's view of him? Literally just pulled out of someone's ass, because there's no instance in the game in any route where Rhea/the Church outright expresses that they don't respect Claude's leadership. In fact, in AG Rhea and Seteth worked with him directly, in person, to make a plan together. No letters, no messengers. Met with him in person to talk planning about the war (with Dimitri of course, but this is proof enough that they're willing to take his position as leader seriously enough that they would meet with him and put their trust in him).
im tellin ya, the only thing gw did right was let miklan live

people were saying oh yeah nami opla is too dry. in the trailers. nami herself isnt dry and sarcastic shes clever and witty and cute and sometimes shes dry and sarcastic but shes so clever and funny and she delivers lines and jokes like she thinks shes funny and excited to fucking be clever and fun because she KNOWS shes insanely clever and funny its like my favourite part of all her performances nami is always preformed like she KNOWS shes the most clever witty and funny person there is and shes excited to be herself! that confidence in all her performances where its so obvious she like busts with creativity and funny jokes and knows that is like one of my favourite parts about her. like sure shes like, more dry and sarcastic in early one piece but i agree that i think emily rudd is laying it on pretty thick.
theres like this really weird perception by people who consume stories to make female characters into caretakers and thats true of nami to like some degree but all of the strawhats take care of eachother and i feel its only true to that degree. like zoro and sanji are both HUGE caretakers. (esp sanji) but you dont see them calling them caretakers in the press release do you
they mightve leaned into the "im above all of you because im better" vibe that characters like nami read to people who are being sexist (but patronizingly). and especially early one piece she doesnt take care of them at fucking all because shes using them. she only does that willingly post arlong park. and that might be why nami might get mischaracterized slightly in opla.

Please yell at us about yasha for good old number 2 there in that ask game!
002 | Give me a character & I will tell you:
How I feel about this character:  amazing. best character of all time. hands down. fave forever shes the love of my life i think about her every day
My non-romantic OTP for this character:  i really like cad & yasha and caleb & yasha, but im a sucker for molly and yasha's friendship so it takes the #1 spot but they are all very close
My unpopular opinion about this character:  a lot of the cr fandom doesnt really "get" yasha and a solid 65% of the time she's wildly mischaracterized (especially in fics). thats not really an opinion about HER but im right
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i really wish yasha had more time to grow relationships with the nein. i know its because ashley wasnt around to play her, but its so painful to me that yasha's only super deep relationship is with beau!! dont get me wrong, i love beauyasha and i love beau, i just wish yasha got to have more friendship moments with the other members of the nein. also i wish she got stormgirdle.
my OTP: beauyasha (duh)
a headcanon fact: yasha is nonbinary & has no real concept of genders shes just yasha and does what she wants (real and true: ashley johnson told me)

So. Took a look into that fic @nilsh13 is going through the comments of. Dunno if I’ll actually go through the entire thing - 300k words is certainly a lot of words to read through, especially with it still updating, but I’ve read through/am reading through longer ones - but I jumped to the latest chapter to get a feel for where the fic’s at now.
I’m not halfway through the chapter and I have Words To Say lmao, under the cut
This is going to be as serious a critique about the sections I’ve selected as possible - I want to be clear why I think what is being written is not of high quality, pointing out specifically what I have wrong with it.
Here are some snippets of the fic (boldened), and following those snippets are my thoughts on them:
“My actions have caused immense turmoil, pitting friend against friend, mother against daughter, and brother against sister*,” muttered Edelgard, desperately trying to drive any hint of self-pity (emphasis mine) from her voice. “My best friend has been disowned by her family, Hubert and Ferdinand’s fathers are dead or imprisoned, and the woman I love is now deemed a heretic by the Church that once offered her shelter. The weight of my decisions seems to pull down all who are caught in the shadow of the Imperial crown.” The Flame Emperor gave Professor Hanneman a wan smile. “Whatever imagined slights you believe you have committed against me, they pale in comparison to the carnage my own words and deeds have unleashed.”
""I made my choice, the only choice I could make, and dragged this continent down to hell with me. It makes me a poor ruler, and an even baser person, but that was the path I knew I must take.""
“"It is funny you use the word ‘choice’, Miss Edelgard. When I resigned my title to study at Garreg Mach, I lost marriage prospects, became penniless outside of a small stipend…I even renounced the opportunity to have a family.” Hanneman smiled, his whole body suffused with melancholy. “Really, how could I dare to dream of bringing a daughter into a world this senseless and cruel, knowing that someday, she too, could be hurt in such a way? I…I would not survive it.” The man’s body shook. “I sacrificed those things, things I desperately wanted, because the chance to allow my sister to rest in peace was more important. And I would make that choice again, despite all that it has cost me. You are much the same.”"
"“But your sacrifices were your own,” protested the Emperor of Adrestia. “Thousands bleed for the choices that I have made, and sacrifice themselves for the cause that I have placed before them. There is a profound difference-“"
"“We are both wise enough to know a painful truth,” said the scholar with a melancholy smile. “No matter how grave the sins, no matter how many innocents suffer…there will be countless individuals who will defend the law not because it is just, or righteous, but because it is the law. They will permit a hundred Abysses, and a thousand women to be raped, and a million dead children, as long as such actions do not disturb their order.” He placed a hand on Edelgard’s shoulder. “To stand against such moral rot, knowing that the world will despise and vilify you for it, is the truest sign of not only a just ruler, but a good woman.”"
"The academic’s words blazed with the passion of both a scholar and a man who had watched his world crumble to ash. A man who had been forced to live in the remnants of a life forever altered by the cruelty of both society and of humanity. And yet he had fought, the only way he could, to make the world better. It gave the Flame Emperor new resolve."
"“I…” He turned and looked away. “I believe in you, Miss Edelgard. When I see you, and your determination, your spirit, your bravery in choosing not what is easy, but what is right…it reminds me of her.” Fingers clenched around his locket. “I will fight for you, in the way I should have fought for my sister, long ago. My strength is meagre, and my courage more meagre still. However, all of it is yours.”"
The author writes Edelgard as one trying to give pity onto herself for her actions, despite how negatively they affect her, due to the immense ramifications those actions have had on those both around her and those under her care. This is the appropriate response to someone who has done as morally dubious an action as starting and spearheading a war that has led to the deaths and suffering of countless innocent people, some of whom were undoubtedly already going through immense suffering without war compounding itself onto their already existing pain. She - rightfully - points as, as a negative towards herself, that she has forced thousands of people to sacrifice their lives, livelihoods, friends, family, homes, etc. in order to continue with her war. Edelgard's canonical self-justification - that she had no other choice to do this - is properly utilized, and further characterization is given to her when she herself recognizes that performing such horrendous actions on the people under her care makes her a poor ruler and terrible person. This is, in truth, a decent set-up for her to go onto a possible path of redemption or self-realization.
However, that progress is forcibly stopped and reverted by Hanneman justifying her actions and recontextualizing them in a morally good light. In fact, the entire story does this, as characters act wildly out of character in order for Edelgard to be seen as good in comparison to them. Focusing on the quoted lines, however, Hanneman relating him giving up nobility and going into momentary poverty - whether true to canon or not - to Edelgard's war actively paints her actions as something that she had a right to be making, which she does not, as they force others to make sacrifices for her cause. When she herself rightfully points this discrepancy out, Hanneman excuses her actions by pointing to another - supposed - source of turmoil and essentially saying "You are more right than x, therefore your y actions are not only better, but objectively good, and make you a good person." He says nothing of the inherent injustice of taking away the choice of the people to live as they want and fight for who they want as well as deliberately taking away any semblance of safety from them, and makes objective statements about Edelgard's moral righteousness despite her taking actions that would, by definition, make her moral righteousness a subjective matter at minimum.
Hanneman is projecting the image of his sister and his own personal sense of justice onto Edelgard, and thus sees her as just as much a victim of the war and society as everyone else. Edelgard is a young woman who has gone through trauma due to Crests, as was his sister, and he himself (in this story, though not within the quoted lines) wanted to beat the man who abused his sister to death, and so he sees Edelgard using violence as a means to achieve justice as not only not questionable, but morally good and brave, as he felt he was not brave enough to enact "justice" onto the man that caused his sister's death. Instead of this being settled, focused on, or even mentioned, despite its obvious nature due to deliberate connections Hanneman himself makes, it is used as a means to showcase that Hanneman is a, for lack of a better term, "expert" on what he is saying when speaking to Edelgard. He knows what it's like to want to force change, he has by-proxy experienced the apparent injustice of the Church - not human society, not his family's decision to allow his sister to be married off, not the man who caused her death's decision to discard her, but strictly the Church and only the Church - and so he can "rightfully" justify and excuse Edelgard's morally questionable actions and paint them in a solely positive light, with no nuance or gray whatsoever.
Edelgard, in the first quote, attempts to say her actions without a tone of self-pity, and yet the narrative itself pities Edelgard. She should be allowed to feel bad about her actions - not because they are causing unfathomable suffering on people who were underserving, but because they’re just hard decisions that she was good and brave to make and maybe she can feel a little bad for herself for making them. She shouldn't feel responsible for choosing to start the war - in fact, did she really have a choice, or did everyone else in society force her to? She shouldn't question whether she's a good person or not, because she simply is - no debate, no question. She is - “justly” - standing up against "moral rot"; that she does so with even more moral rot is irrelevant, because, according to the story, it is not as rotten as that she's up against, therefore it is no longer rotten in the first place. War has been completely justified, as it is now not the last resort of desperation that could only ever be morally grey at its absolute best, but an objectively morally white decision of an objectively morally white person who is facing an objectively morally black opponent.
The actions of other characters attempt to paint Edelgard as someone closer to the former, but I will - maybe - eventually go over how those characters are extremely mischaracterized in order to prop Edelgard as their moral superior.

Annabeth is a good person, but not a nice or pleasant one,IMO.
YES.
That’s it. That’s the post. Pack it up everybody, we just cracked the case and cleared up one of the most compelling fights in the PJO fandom since forever. Good job everybody, clap it out and there’s the door! Don’t forget ordering the drinks at Starbucks, Mitch! They’re on me!
Okay, but on a more serious note: YES. YES EXACTLY.
And before some of you roll your eyes or grab your pitchforks – put your biases aside and hear me out for once. I like Annabeth. She’s my in my top three characters only second to Percy himself. I love Percabeth. It’s my favorite ship in the entire series and to be frank, the only ship that I care about PJO wise. Hell, I spend my time creating my own headcanons or writing my own fanfics with Percabeth being the star in them.
But that is not to say that I’m unable to see how certain things have developed over the years or where they stand now in regard to Annabeth. I’m not here to ignore things that have been said and/or done due to or in the name of Annabeth and I’m not here to vilify anyone that doesn’t like her. And I’m here to admit that I’m guilty of some of the things that may be addressed in this meta essay that you will read in just a second. However, I try my best to assure you, that I’m for once able to recognize my own bias.
Warning: a monster essay lies right upon you.
This should count as a paper of its own.
Back to the statement on top: I would go out even further to reframe your claim, anon:
Annabeth Chase is a good character but not a nice or pleasant person.
Annabeth is a wonderful character but she isn’t a nice one. Or at least not nice to everyone. She is (construction wise if I dare say) the best character out of the series. She has her positive traits (she’s caring, she’s emotional, she’s encouraged and volunteers, she fights for what she believes in, she forgives (even if doing so begrudgingly)) but she also has her negative traits (she’s stubborn, she’s brash, changing her mind takes forever, she is prejudiced, she baits others). That balances things out. She is branded as the intelligent kid but does irrational things (like I’ve just said a) she’s a kid and b) she’s not a robot). She should probably know better, but we all make mistakes and hopefully grow and learn from them. The clouds in the sky do blur and cover our visions sometimes.
Annabeth had clashes with other characters or was about to have fights due to her stubbornness or jealousy (Rachel, Reyna, etc.) and has of course her problems with the mortal world and her family but she also found new friends, some things cleared up throughout the narration and she was/is quite popular in Camp Half-Blood.
The thing is: she doesn’t have to be nice or pleasant (as a character). Or at least not all the time. Her character is humanized. That is what or who she is. Human. She does stand out as a character, not just because she’s the (future) love interest. She feels like someone you could meet in real life and either adore from the top to the bottom or declare as your biggest enemy. And that’s totally okay if you lean either way – liking or disliking her. Or even feeling indifferent about her. Also great!
To say that she has been the best character that Riordan has crafted is easy to say, because she has been sculpted after Riordan’s wife. He had a model he could rub some of real-life events or traits on. That’s not the problem. The problem truly doesn’t lie on Riordan’s side for the most part for once.
The problem is inherently on the fandom’s side. What the fandom does, how it acts and how it treats Annabeth as a character is the problem. The problems vary but it’s mostly the mischaracterization of Annabeth, starting fights and fan/ship wars, internalized misogyny (in some cases) and how some of the Annabeth stans lash out (ha, got firsthand experience in that field among many of my friends and mutuals!). There is a reason why many people are wary of people that have Annabeth or Percabeth related URLs.
The fact that we see Annabeth mostly through Percy’s lens and (until the Heroes of Olympus saga hits) we never really see her in chill everyday situations is essentially Riordan leaving the back door of the house open, ready for all of you asshats to rob his mansion in Boston. Because a frame on a character means that we don’t get to see the character in its entirety (unlike we do with Percy in PJO for the most part). That means a bunch of stuff is left open for interpretation which is the reason why Annabeth gets so many polarized headcanon and opinions tossed around. I think that is one of the true appeals of Annabeth. You can add on stuff and it necessarily doesn’t have to contradict itself.
We have people calling her abusive due to a (n admittedly stupid and unnecessary) judo flip and we have people that act like she’s never done anything wrong. People sorta use this excuse to form and shape Annabeth however they want and distort her characterization.
People in the fandom act like Annabeth is some weird prized possession. We perceive Annabeth mostly through the eyes of others (Percy, Apollo, etc.) and when we had some sort of insight in her ways (MOA, HOH) it felt… weird? Somewhat? Like Riordan left two bullet points of her characterization and told the ghostwriter: aight, fuck it up, gringo, see you on Tuesday and greet Fred the next time you see him for me.
There have been many posts lately (by Tharini, Simi, Sawasawako, Jewishpercy and Annie I believe?) that HOO Percabeth felt weird. That they felt weirdly constructed, that there was no conflict, no growth. It felt stagnating, like we’re turning back. We had five books prior where we had Annabeth and Percy slowly shifting from disliking to liking and crushing each other. True development. And when we finally got the cake it felt… dissatisfying. Like the cheap box stuff and not the delicious exquisite taste that we were promised.
I said it previously in my Percabeth ship roast, but let me repeat myself: many Percabeth related things are straight up fanon. Some of it is very old fanon so that’s been unable to distinguish unless you’ve read the books recently and subtract nearly 99,9% of things you see on Tumblr (and occasionally the other shitty parts of the fandom like Reddit, IG, Twitter. Although they mostly steal and recycle tumblr stuff oh well. But back to the topic).
The way people treat Annabeth is so strange. She’s either an innocent fluffy smush baby that’s never harmed a fly and all that she wants for Christmas is being Percy’s lapdog or she’s the devil incarnate, broke into your house, killed your parents Batman style, kicked your puppy and didn’t flush the toilet on the way out. I think this is what mostly makes people hate her or the ship Percabeth. And both extremes are wrong and right at the same time? She is multifaceted so both stereotypes are true and untrue and sorta cancel each other out in the same way.
The true reason why people dislike Annabeth is because the stans are doing the most. (The haters as well, don’t get me wrong, but oh boy. Piss of a stan and you’ll know what I mean). That isn’t inherently new. Are you guys old enough to remember the ship wars that have happened cross platform? Perachel vs. Percabeth? Oh boy, oh boy. I saw some kids on tumblr a few months ago trying to infiltrate both tags and start shit (and also fail). The fact that Rachel still gets used as the bitchy (ex) girlfriend in fanfics? It’s 2020 guys. I know this apocalyptic year is far from perfect and over but I think we can let this trope die, right? Right? I thought we’ve established that Rachel is a pretty chill charcter by now… right?
If you posted your stuff on FFN back in 2010-2013 and it wasn’t the typical cutesy Percabeth story (Goode High, the gods read TLT, punk/prep Percabeth, college AU, etc.) people would’ve come for your fucking throat. Not because the story or the narration was shit. But because the pairing wasn’t Annabeth and Percy (in the sense that Annabeth had to be paired with Percy. I mean Percy gets shipped with everyone and their mother but for Annabeth it was strictly Percy. As annoying as this whole Connabeth thing is – the people behind it actually had a point. She never had a different love interest unless it’s a Percy centered story and he goes off dating Athena, Artemis and Zoe at the same time for some odd reason. Yeah, FFN Percy ships are something). Or it wasn’t the action filled canon compliant story or it wasn’t an AU that was popular.
People were really stubborn, snobbish and wanted their stuff in the four five boxes that were the most popular ones and that’s it. People have been bullied off the site in many fandoms, so it’s not a PJO-only thing but it’s still sad that it happened. (Off-note: most of these FFN tropes are still alive and well and thriving on AO3. Don’t be so snobbish and pretend that every piece you’d find there is a holy grail. There’s a lot of trash you have to waddle through. Same with Wattpad, Tumblr or anywhere else where fanfics get posted. Also had this discussion with Annabeth stans. Sigh).
And Tumblr back then? Forget it, wasn’t much better.
That view has sorta changed (at least for people that have been in the fandom for several years or have managed to find a way to navigate through it) but some of the negative sentiment from back in the day has survived. Be it by new fans coming in or from old fans that never let their stance die. The aggression feels differently and somewhat not. (I don’t know if the anon function had been abused that much back in the day. I was an observer not a participant in the fandom).
Crack a joke at Annabeth’s expense (Kal’s famous “Annabeth is a Republican” post or Dee Dee’s and many others “Annabeth has the education of a second grader, chill with the college plans, girlie” stance) and you have people insulting you, making callout posts, unfollowing and blocking you (based on only that? Okay, honey), making aggressive counter-posts, etc. in a minute. If you respond with “It’s a joke, it’s not real” you have a 50/50 chance of either getting blown off or embarrassing them so that they apologize for once.
This isn’t just about jokes. You can make a headcanon that’s not the cozy cute convenient mainstream saga and people would react the same way. Or art piece (no, not including the whole Tannabeth Blackchase shtick done by Viria and others) or fanfics.
People project so much onto the unfinished canvas that is Annabeth Chase that any form of negative sentiment as little as someone not liking her to straight up criticism, regardless of how tiny it may be, seems like an affront. Like an invitation to a fight. Like an insult to them, their character, everything they believe in. Let me state something:
You are NOT Annabeth Chase. Annabeth Chase IS NOT you. Annabeth Chase is NOT real. Her feeling cannot be hurt. Someone criticizing, disliking, joking about her or even insulting her will not bother her. Someone making a statement about her is not an insult to YOU.
Let me repeat that:
Annabeth Chase isn’t real. Annabeth Chase isn’t you.
So think a little before you act? I get it when you’re a kid and new to fandoms or haven’t been up with fan cultures in the past and are back in the scene. But if you’re in your late teens or even older as an adult and you’re unable to understand that you aren’t what you like – you aren’t the extension of a fictional character – I feel incredibly sorry for you. Because that’s just incredibly sad. Someone disliking something you like isn’t an attack of your character. It shows you that you are you and the other person is a human just like you. That they just have different taste. Disliking something you like isn’t a crime, you know? But me feeling sorry for the way some of y’all act won’t mean that that’s even remotely okay. Especially if you’re no longer in the intended audience for PJO age wise and should know better.
This isn’t a “white stans” only thing. I’ve seen and witnessed firsthand how people of color, mainly women of color, act the same or not even worse when it comes to her character. People have projected their problems and real-life occurring events into her character (I’m sure that she isn’t the only character nor that this is the only fandom where this is happening) and in some cases like I’ve said cannot separate their own personality from the fictional world. Fights with woc happened because of Annabeth fucking Chase. So many things have happened in the fandom the past few months, mostly due to people being forced staying at home because of the quarantine but I’d say it’s 10% on quarantine and 90% on people for acting up like this.
So here’s a little story: There was the act of Riordan blowing the fandom up because of his own stupidity and being unable to apologize for his mischaracterization and lack of research (the whole Piper fiasco) back in June (?) and admits the upset fandom, people on Twitter, Tumblr and Discord legit thought that none of that mattered and that the outcry was destroying Annabeth Chase’s birthday. That’s right. People thought that Annabeth Chase’s non-existing birthday because she’s a fictional character had a higher priority than the rupture and prevalent racism in the fandom. Okay. This isn’t a great look, Annabeth stans. And this of course pissed a lot of people off. I made a post about it and someone not only berated three other people on said post but no, we had a mighty argument which had disrupted many friendships in our circle which haven’t recovered until this very day. We both had our parts in it and no one is innocent. But the cause of this still remains Annabeth Chase or how people prioritize her non-existing well-being. Anyway. I’m getting agitated just thinking about it.
Let’s go back to the characterization thing with Annabeth. Let me remind you:
Annabeth Chase is an asshole. There I’ve said it in a post ages ago (too lazy to look it up, sorry) and I’ll say it again. And that’s not me insulting her. That’s me actually loving that about her. Annabeth is one of the very few unapologetic female characters that really showed all young readers across the world that you can be a girl, a badass, smart, strong, standing up for yourself and what you believe in. You don’t have to be nice. You don’t have to hide your feelings. You don’t need a man in all cases but it’s also okay to accept help and defeat.
A large reason why I think she’s an incredibly important character in children’s literature/YA because many other novels (mostly (sadly)) have the “Oh, I’m a white skinny dark-haired girl that likes unconventional things like READING. I’m not like the other girls, that take care of themselves and pamper themselves by enjoying shopping and wearing make-up. No, I’d rather be one of the boys but a sweet cute little boy and not the jock fuck that drank vodka shots out of a filthy shoe once. Despite me calling myself hideous every man in a 10-kilometer radius falls in love with me and tells me I’m oh so sexy and by the way I’m only 16 years old” shit going on for no goddamn reason.
Yes, I do blame Twilight for this mostly in recent years, but this trope isn’t by any means knew. Pretty sure that you could even use classics as Pride and Prejudice and dissect them in the same manner (Bold statement: Lizzy Bennet is the OG Bella Swan. There. Go fight somewhere in the corner, people). The new wave of YA focuses on girls belittling themselves and only starting to believe in themselves because someone else (mostly the male love interest) tells them they’re worth it. And these books hit the mainstream because they’re incredibly bland and picture perfect white.
With Annabeth it’s different. She shows up for the job and is done with it. (Brie Larson would probably be the perfect in real life version of her. You either like or dislike her. Or you really don’t care). That is what is so refreshing about her. Her unapologetic nature. Can it be off-putting? Yes. Is it annoying? Yes! Hell, every time I read The Lightning Thief, I want to rip her goddamn head off. And it’s just so well written. Her shift from mistrusting Percy but secretly still believing in him to her opening up. Wow, Riordan did something right there.
Annabeth Chase isn’t a young character. She has existed along with PJO for 15 years. She’s on her way to the second decade. I’m pretty sure that with the success of Percy Jackson (and Harry Potter) many lives have been warped and shaped.
But when I say the problem lies mostly in the fandom, it doesn’t mean that Riordan’s completely innocent. The only problem that I have with Annabeth lies not truly with her but the fact that Riordan is only able to produce three variations of female characters:
The sweetheart (Hazel, Silena, Calypso, Hestia)
The strong feminist (Annabeth, Piper, Thalia, Reyna, Artemis)
The bitch (Drew, nearly every female goddess in the goddamn Riordanverse next to every female monster)
And these female characters only know three endings:
End up married with a mortgage, three kids, two dogs and a cat somewhere in Connecticut by the age of twelve
Get dumped into the hunt
Chill on Mount Olympus and only come down to be a nuisance and/or give a cryptic message before going back and doing a godly rave party or something
We know Annabeth as the badass strong female first (or the bitchy character we’re supposed to actually like. Choose your approach), the blueprint so to speak, so some of the other characters feel almost pale in comparison and almost not needed? Doesn’t mean that other characters can’t behave similarly, but it feels kind of redundant especially if their character arcs end in a rather anticlimactic way (Thalia, Reyna). The new additions are the much needed woc as the main story with PJO was inherently white (anyway stan black!Percy and Grover, folks). So it’s not to bash on the new characters, it’s more Riordan’s fault more than anything.
Since Riordan only knows three female character arcs it feels like he tried to copy the formula several ways with different nuances. Some more or less successful. This is where fandom actually comes in handy and helps create more distinguished and fleshed out characters in form of headcanons or fanfiction.
But even in these cases people still make it about Annabeth when it’s time for characters of colors to shine. Remember that whole spiel and discussion that broke out when people (Kal, diver-up, Caitlyn, Bee, reynaisalesbian, etc.) joked about or criticized that Annabeth thinks that she’s having it harder because she’s a blonde? In front of Hazel and Piper? If she would’ve been a real person that’s an invitation for getting decked. And then all hell broke loose because Annabeth stans couldn’t accept the fact that in the real world and/or in fictional worlds the woc/coc have it harder? That the white woman wasn’t the victim that needed the coddling? Yeah, that was mad pathetic.
I hope you people get my point?
Well fuck. I wrote so many things and have the feeling I’ve said nothing. Anyway, I hope I made sense. This is way too long.
TLDR: Chill about Annabeth please. She’s an important character but that doesn’t mean that everyone has to like her, regardless of being a character in the books or a reader/fan of PJO in real life. She isn’t nice or a sweetheart all the time. She also isn’t the monstrous asshole that some try to make out of her.
Peace out.

What happened in the end of Fruits basket 2001? Was it that bad?
𝑜𝒽𝒽 𝓂𝓎 𝓈𝓌𝑒𝑒𝓉 𝓈𝓊𝓂𝓂𝑒𝓇 𝒸𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒹
you’re asking the best & worst person about this LMAO
to me, the ending to 01 Fruits Basket is only as bad as it is canon divergent. otherwise, I really have no problem with it. In fact, I love it. Is it the canon ending to the story? No, but I don’t care it still made me bawl when I was 11 and makes me cry to this day so to everyone who’s cranky about all the canon divergence in the 01 anime just go re-read the manga & enjoy your canon compliant reboot with its bad cinematography I’m trying to have my hot girl summer over here with my canon divergent, mischaracterized Fruits Basket because at least it makes me feel something.
but, anyway lemme just crack my knuckles real quick & get tf into it
readmore for everyone else who doesn’t want my play-by-play but I really think you’re gonna want my play-by-play
SO like a lot of anime that came out in the 2000s they were all adaptations of unfinished manga which left a lot of questions not only unanswered but ... alternatively answered. AKA they deviated from the source material in minor to major MAJOR ways.
When the 01 Fruits Basket anime originally aired the manga had only been released up to volume seven which was as far as Ritsu’s character introduction. So the climax of the 01 anime revolves around the reveal of Kyo’s true form. Which, in hindsight, we know is not even half of Fruits Basket. But, because it was the conclusion to a 26 episode anime they had to tie up a lot of unfinished ends.
The last 3 episodes of the anime covers this: Kazuma’s arrival, Kyo running off into the woods after his true form is revealed, Kyo & Kazuma’s backstory & the story of Kazuma’s grandfather, & then Tohru goes after him and everyone is fine again : )  Where the story deviates is:
The issue isn’t resolved as quickly as it is in the manga because Tohru runs into the woods after Kyo, is shaken up, gets sick --- but then Akito shows up to rub her misery in her face because she “deserves” it for involving herself with the Sohmas in the first place.
Then Shigure shows up, wards Akito off, & starts crying on behalf of Tohru and this ordeal she has to go through. (Since you are asking me this question in the first place I’m assuming you have never seen the 01 anime --- any and all of Shigure’s scheming & darkness is completely exempt; the goofier aspects of his character are way more played up, mostly for comic relief, and he’s really nestled into the guardian role with no ulterior motives or anything. And, clearly expresses more empathy for Tohru).
Tohru, discouraged by Akito’s words and second guessing whether or not she even belongs with the Sohmas because she’s feeling way in over her head with Kyo’s true form, goes to her mother’s grave for comfort. (A LOT of people are upset that she doesn’t go to Kyo right away just like the manga --- I personally don’t mind the deviation, but I digress) Hana and Uo show up after Hana ~sensed~ that they just needed to be there. Tohru’s really moping about it, REALLY set on not being able to go back. Uo tries to console her but Hana INSISTS that ~whatever it is~ that Tohru needs to do, she’s the only one who can do it and at one point she PUSHES Uo to stop her from consoling Tohru it’s wild.
Eventually Tohru realizes yeah, Hana is right. She’s gotta do this --- so she does go to Kyo & the rest of the scene unfolds just like the manga EXCEPT --- and this is my favorite part ---
while all this was going on, Yuki & Kagura were having a conversation inside the house about how the cat and the rat hate each other and Kagura is like “But...who decided it had to be that way???”
So BEST thing in the world BEST 👏🏻 THING 👏🏻
YUKI GOES AFTER KYO TOO. Tohru’s there, Yuki’s there, the gang is all fuckin here & Tohru is trying to reach Kyo but he’s being aggressive and dismissive and tries to run away bUT OH NO YUKI FUCKING GRABS HIM & WRESTLES HIS MONSTER ASS TO THE GROUND, ROLLING AROUND IN THE DIRT AND SCREAMING ABOUT HOW “IS THIS ALL WE DO? RUN AWAY? WELL I DON’T WANNA DO IT ANYMORE” it’s fucking beautiful and THEN Yuki is like “TOHRU YOU GOTTA TELL HIM THE TRUTH YOU HAVE TO TELL HIM HOW YOU FEEL”
So then cue Tohru saying what she says in canon & her and Kyo have their moment, he hugs her, she carries a crying cat home --- its beat for beat. Only they get back and Shigure is so relieved he’s laughing about it --- in context it’s pretty wholesome IMHO you just gotta suspend the right disbelief if you’re not butthurt about it
ANYWAY
we’re not done yet
The next morning Tohru asks Shigure if she can go to see Akito and long story short they all go -- Shigure’s all dressed up in a suit all nice, Yuki is there, Hatori is there it’s a real fuckin come up (Kyo is stuck waiting outside).
Akito is being tempestuous as fuck, and asks Tohru why she showed up. When she says “I don’t know” Akito lashes out and grabs a fistful of her hair tO WHICH SHIGURE & YUKI RUSH TO HER DEFENSE AND RESTRAIN AKITO. So it’s dramatic, right our girl Tohru is in Akito’s clutches (oh -- who btw is male in this anime because the manga never published the gender reveal. & also he is not ‘god’ per say, but bears the “full weight of the zodiac curse” which is deduced to an explanation of “he doesn’t have much longer to live and that was decided at birth” weird ik just work with me here).
Tohru immediately begins to empathize with Akito, try to connect with him over getting him to ~talk about his feelings~ saying “it must have been sad and scary to know you were going to die” At first he’s not having it, throwing a bitch fit and ordering Hatori to erase Tohru’s memories (which he WONT) BUT THEN to EVERYONE’S SURPRISE AKITO OPENS UP it’s some real melodrama.
So he lets Tohru go, everyone is relieved that their best girl made it out alive, she’s allowed to go on living with Shigure & the boys and they can keep being a little cute found family, and then Hatori & Shigure say something about how even though she doesn’t think so, Tohru made a difference going to see Akito that day & that’s it that’s the end.
I hope this answered your question : )

So you've talked a lot about Darkseid, but what about the other New Gods?
SO THIS HAS BEEN IN MY INBOX FOR ALMOST AS LONG AS THIS BLOG’S BEEN AROUND AND I JUST FINALLY FINISHED FOURTH WORLD
Tumblr media
Well that sure was something. My musings on some major players that I either have substantial thoughts on, or where I especially think the majority consensus/interpretation has subsequently gotten them wrong (a state Kirby is well aware of, because a HUGE part of “Even Gods Can Die!” is him being frustrated at subsequent handlings of the characters even by 1984 mucking things up):
Orion: Perhaps the most hard-done by as a result of Kirby never being able to fully finish Fourth World as he had imagined it, as his character arc ends on a cliffhanger for a decade and is forced into a rapid completion later. When he emerges, while a warrior born he’s also every bit the classical, magnificent hero you expect to see in a superhero comic to try and overshadow his inner demons, while by the end of New Gods he’s embraced not only his true face (the OTHER face, as his father would put it) in the fight against Apokolips but the murderous, sadistic rage that is his birthright, reveling in inflicting agony and very much the berserker others have since portrayed him as. Surely as much a product of his trauma from a childhood on Apokolips (a detail frequently glossed over) and a sense of being unwanted as anything genetic, it’s ultimately unconditional love for him as he truly is in Hunger Dogs that lets him overcome his fear that he can’t be anything but a monstrous tool in service of better people than himself, and embrace ‘the tomorrow overture’. Even his anger has its righteous if tragic place as a primal force of upheaval: “It defies time! It stands firm against the hammers of change! It mocks life and defies death!” I won’t get to it for awhile yet, but very curious what Simonson does with him.
Lightray: Rules! He’s the closest the New Gods have to a traditional superhero, and it’s in that capacity that while a lousy warrior next to Orion (Kalibak thinks little of his attempt at fighting him, mockingly deeming him a “callow little killer”), his strength is in transformation: he makes himself light, he turns a tormented weapon into the glory boat, a machine armed against the New Gods into a weapon against Darkseid, Orion from a man alone into a friend. He’s not a warrior, but he’s the one who makes a better world worth waging war for and who might one day make such war unnecessary. Also he and Orion have definitely fucked.
Mister Miracle: Not WILDLY off the mark since, but it’s interesting that as I expect a result of JLI he’s been written so often since as an everymanish, relatable, bordering-on-comedic figure, when under Kirby he was very much the archetypal good guy. One often committed to freeing others as he had been freed himself, in the likes of Ted Brown and Shilo Norman, an avenue I’m surprised hasn’t been explored more often from what I’ve seen. Also worth noting: Darkseid declared the moment he got his hands on the kid that Granny would be twice as hard on him as others, and that it would eventually drive the boy away and let the war resume. Which not only indicates Darkseid’s understanding of the subtlety needed in control, but would seem to take Scott’s rebellion out of his own hands…except that at the moment of his escape Darkseid still offered him a choice, implored the boy to allow him to “complete the destruction of Scott Free – so you may live with the majesty that is the power of DARKSEID!” And instead he turned his back on his god and chose to be what he is.
Barda: Shockingly, great as she’s been since, her background is often severely mischaracterized. The shorthand is “love saved her and turned her from a servant of evil to a champion of good!”, but that’s…while not entirely wrong, a bad way of presenting it. When she leaves Apokolips initially, even after she starts hanging out with Scott Free and Oberson after having helped the former escape years earlier, she still believes in Darkseid. She fights and hates her former allies not because she’s turned against his vision of the universe (this is in fact a major aspect often overlooked - under Kirby Darkseid’s agents don’t simply fear him, they sincerely believe in him and his vision of how the universe works) but because she sees them as loathsome, brutish executors of his grand design. In short, she doesn’t think it’s the system that’s the problem, but a bunch of bad apples. It’s her experience with freedom and simple pleasures and life on Earth, her lingering guilt over the death of her friend Auralie as eventually manifested in her protection and training of Shiloh Norman, and yes, her eventual realized love for Scott, that brings her around to realizing she truly desires a life beyond what Darkseid can offer.
Forever People: Okay I actually don’t have a ton to say about the Forever People, though I do think they’re underrated and underutilized. Naive and in over their heads as the frequently are they’re also the best of their peers, believing in freedom and transformation and the potential of those around them to become better - their defining moment for me is when they reassure Sonny Sumo that having the power of the Anti-Life Equation doesn’t make him a monster. “Where we come from the Anti-Life Equation is one of many others–almost as awesome!! But they merely exist!! It’s we who live!!”
Metron: The big figure I haven’t really been able to crack. Machinery as not necessarily cold mechanization but extensions of ourselves and our souls, and able to nourish them in turn, is a big aspect of Fourth World, but Metron as the embodiment of mechanization and knowledge feels like not just an outsider as he’s framed but one who never quite became whatever Kirby had in mind for him, making his crucial role at the end of Hunger Dogs a bit of a non-sequitur for me. I’d be curious to hear what other people think.
Desaad: God Desaad’s been made boring. Not that he isn’t fairly one-dimensional under Kirby too, but his craft and awful glee as the god of torture isn’t just in strapping people to tables and poking them with unpleasant tools, it’s in manipulating their emotions and agonies to a fever pitch - he should be such an unsettling figure, and instead he’s a simpering helpless toady.
Highfather: Not a perfect figure, given how he’s framed with the likes of Fastbak, and the Forever People, and the Pact, willing to deploy fear as a weapon in the name of peace as Darkseid will use chaos in the name of a larger order, but always trying - as with Darkseid, an imperfect vessel of what he represents, but capable of growth and realization as a leader.
Steppenwolf/Heggra: Essential to understanding The Pact, they’re the old ways of the world and war, petty despots and warrior-kings, supplanted by fascism in Darkseid.
Darkseid: So I’ve discussed Darkseid before in terms of his broad use and ideas, but the very specific ways Kirby presented him have their own dimensions. In the world of superheroes he’s larger-than-life and often such in here too, but in rare moments, and by the end entirely as all artifice is stripped away? Kirby’s Darkseid is a profoundly human figure. He recognizes the irony that the Forever People believe in letting all be who they are, for that very need to fulfill himself is why he must pursue conquest (“And of course - that’s the pity of it!”). While he thinks to himself “Oh, how heroes LOVE to flaunt their nobility in the face of death! Yet THEY know better than most that war is but the COLD game of the BUTCHER!” he too believes in “Boldness! Risk! The raw meat of existence!” even as he consigns himself to the role of puppetmaster rather than warrior. He does or so he tells himself “no more than what HAS to be done!!” rather than indulging in cruelty for its own sake. He dresses up in ridiculous costumes for his schemes, he gets sarcastic, he recognizes honor and respects worthy foes, he feels love, he craves the laughter of a friend, he fears the obsolesce of his preferred way of doing things, he tells himself that should he achieve omnipotence others will find “eternal shelter”. He’s a person, one capable of a range of emotions, but he is the TIGER FORCE AT THE CORE OF ALL THINGS regardless…not because he is a mythic unstoppable force, but because every day he rises and believes in himself over all others, because there is a black hole within him that he can only hope dominance might fill regardless of what pain he finds in the process. But as Mister Miracle’s battle with the Lump foretold, when left truly alone over a world that is himself he will be only within “a self-made prison”, reflections of his own fear and agony.

This is why I think BH needs to speak out about Toxic TK shippers. My friend doesn't know BTS really and saw MTV Unplugged. She called and said BTS is the group you like, I finally watched them, who's your fav. I said Jimin, V and JK. Her first comment, isn't JK the possessive/jealous one over the Tae guy? I was like what? She said she looked up BTS videos after Unplugged and saw lots of videos titled JK being jealous over Tae. She said it turned her off from him, until I explained its all lies
And this, exactly, is what I was trying to get across with my post about Jungkook and the way he is represented by (toxic) shippers (of both JK+ML ships) which, like anon’s story shows, is simply doing him a huge disservice. Because we know he isn’t the person those clickbait titles and trashy videos make him out to be. But those new to Bangtan? Those curious to know more about them and being recommended these videos? Baby ARMYs getting into ships, by chance or on purpose because a particular pairing caught their eye, and are being fed these things which are tragically untrue and unjust? They don’t know. They might believe it. Many really do believe it. And sadly, only a few eventually realize that this gross mischaracterization is not real.
This is a conversation I feel like we’re having every other month, or even every other week. Those videos are toxic, portray the maknaes in abusive, harmful/hurtful and toxic ways, oversexualize and villainize them, and unfortunately, it’s done in a way that manages to convince people that it’s reality, even though it isn’t. Anon, I’m so sorry that those videos had to be your friend’s first “proper” introduction/impression of Jungkook after the masterpiece that was MTV Unplugged though I’m glad she had you to explain it all away. Which is something many unfortunately do not. It’s why I’ve said, time and time again, that I’m strongly against those videos and recommend staying as far away from them as possible.
Ship whoever you like, frankly, I don’t care, which I’ve also said plenty of times. I do care about the members though, about their real bonds, their personalities (the degree of them we’re privileged enough to get to know), their talents and artistry, and the things they have to say. Whenever I speak negatively about a ship or those who fall into the ugly bad-shipper behaviors, I never mean the members themselves, because usually they are not the ones to blame. At all. Jungkook didn’t choose to be “the possessive” one, Jimin didn’t choose to be “the homewrecker” or “the flirty/promiscuous” one, and Tae certainly didn’t choose to be “the one who doesn’t know what he wants/the manipulative” or “the jealous” one.
I don’t like being the one to point fingers but there was (and still is) a huge issue being discussed on twitter and other sns regarding BTS (by ARMY and media across the globe alike) and yet many big accounts focused on one or the other main ML ship were more “worried” about how big OT7 accounts “surely won’t post X ship moments again once Winter Package will be released” because (insert sarcastic nonsense here). It’s moments like these that make it crystal clear who is actually here for the members, their artistry and their message, and who only cares about their ship and proving to everyone that they are married or whatever.
But, regarding what you said about BH. The thing is that, unless shippers cross the line is a way that truly puts the members in real danger (physical or mental or both), there is basically no likelihood of them saying anything at all, ever. Ships (as in two members being together in a photoshoot or interacting in other content) are a marketing tool after all from a company point of view. Tae saying something was monumental, all things considered, and yet in the grand scheme of things, it didn’t really do…anything.
The unfortunate thing is, even if BH were to post a white background, black text announcement tomorrow denouncing T/K shippers and ask them to stop with the videos and everything, do you know how (toxic) shippers would react? They would take it as grand confirmation that they’ve been right all along, that BH is hiding their ship, that they are restricting them, and that this is actually just a hidden message for shippers that they are on the right track. It wouldn’t discourage them; it would likely somehow just lead to even more (borderline or worse) invasive analysis videos and posts putting every twitch of Tae’s or JKs muscles under a microscope to prove that BH is lying.
Sounds bizarre, doesn’t it? And yet we all know it’s true. And all of this counts for both ML ships involving him.
The unfortunate reality of it all is that those toxic shippers who twist the members words and personalities to feed their agenda would not be stopped by any announcement, and they would also likely not stop even if one or both halves of their ship would ask them to stop in 100% clear words that would leave no room for “different interpretations/translation”. Because frankly, they don’t care. Those people who make those videos your friend saw? They earn way too much to willingly stop. And even if they would, their toxic theories have spread too far and even having their channels terminated wouldn’t help anymore.
I love BTS and I love JK and truly it makes me sad how some people treat him, how they misrepresent his character, how they manipulate his words and gestures and facial expressions, and how they seem so misguidedly unable to see, appreciate and love the true sweet, kind and talented boy that he is beneath all their made up fantasies and clickbait titles.

Here, There Is Peace
read on ao3
chapter 1: circling the drain
Clarke feels guilty.
Not for the death of Simone or Josephine. Not for locking Russel up in solitude, as he processes and grieves the loss of his entire family. And she most certainly doesn’t feel guilty for taking over the farmhouse he built and using it to keep her own people in.
No, she decides as she stands at the kitchen sink. I feel guilty for being unhappy.
“Hey,” Bellamy greets her as he enters the kitchen, running a hand through his hair. Clarke doesn’t look up as she continues to scrub the dishes left from this morning’s breakfast. She can feel the frown on Bellamy’s face before he even says anything.
“What part of ‘Hey’ did you not hear?” His tone is one of jest and humour.
Just then, Madi races through the kitchen with Picasso trailing close behind her. She whoops and hollers, riling up the golden retriever as they speed out the back door to where the rest of her family is sitting outside, soaking up the golden rays of the planet’s suns.
Scrub, scrub, scrub. That’s all she thinks to herself. Maybe the harder she scrubs, the more of her guilt she can erase.
Bellamy’s hand is suddenly over hers, stunting the rhythm of her back and forth motion. Clarke is finally snapped out of her daze and gazes up at her best friend, her confidant.
“That cup looks pretty clean to me,” Bellamy says gently. His grip is cautious but firm as he takes the cup from Clarke and places it on the drying rack next to the sink. He shifts to lean his back against the counter, arms crossed. Clarke stays where she is, dish sponge in hand and fingers severely pruned from the scalding water.
“You wanna tell me what’s up?”
The tension she’s been holding eases, a feeling that she’s now come to associate with Bellamy’s presence.
“Nothing,” she lies in one breath.
Bellamy gives her a look that says, Bullshit.
“I swear!” She doubles down. “I’m fine. Look at this place!” She gestures around with the sponge still in her hand.
Bellamy keeps his eyes trained on her as she continues.
“We’re in this beautiful farmhouse. We’re alive and breathing, eating whatever we want whenever we want. This is everything we ever hoped for when they sent us to the ground.”
Just then, Murphy stalks into the kitchen, plucking an apple from the island countertop. He gives Clarke and Bellamy a silent wave before leaving to join the others outside.
“Everybody’s happy,” she adds quietly.
“Not everybody.” Bellamy points out.
He’s seen right through her, as he always does.
“It’s just…I feel guilty. And selfish. Selfish for feeling guilty.”
“Clarke, you’ve just lost your mom. This is normal.”
“But --” and she can feel herself spiraling now. “We’ve been through so much…hardship. So much anguish. Finally, we have found some semblance of peace and our people are settled. I should be overjoyed, fulfilled. Instead, I feel…empty.”
“Because it’s not the way you envisioned it. Not without your mom.”
She shakes her head at the same time tears threaten to escape the edges of her eyelids. “I just – she should be here. She deserved to find peace too.”
There’s a beat of silence, then Bellamy breaks it. “Maybe she did, in the end.”
“How? By dying thinking I was already dead?”
“By finally getting to rest.”
Clarke doesn’t know what to say. She wants to believe that’s true; after all, she was no stranger to the belief that life was hell on earth and death was the true way to peace. Her memories bring her back to a time back on Earth, lips cracked and bleeding, gun pressed to her head in anguish. There was no doubt then that ending her life would’ve been the only way to truly put a period on her suffering.
But then she pushed through and ended up here, with her found family. They ate breakfast together around the table for every meal, passing plates of food around as if they had been practicing this domesticity their entire lives. She’d never seen her friends smile so often or laugh so fully. There was a sense of relaxation, something she never thought she’d get to experience unless…well, unless she was dead.
“Clarke, I don’t mean to be a pessimist,” Bellamy bursts her thought bubble. “But even though it may seem like we’ve found a good home here, there always seems to be some sort of trouble looming around the corner. Who’s to say that tomorrow we won’t be fighting for our lives again?”
She puckers her lips and dips a hand into the sink, yanking the drain plug out of its socket. “Real comforting, Bellamy. Thanks.”
They both watch as the dirty water in the sink starts to deplete, a vortex swirling above the drain.
“Abby died thinking you were dead, yes. But don’t you think she would’ve found peace in the end, thinking she was going to see you again?”
Clarke hadn’t thought about it that way. This time, a tear does spill onto her cheek, leaving a track down her face as she peers up at the man standing beside her. He’s already gazing back, their shoulders so close they’re almost touching and –
“Bellamy?”
They both jump and turn in unison, finding Echo staring at them from the other side of the kitchen island. She’s got a bag slung over her shoulder and another gripped tightly in her hand. There’s a slight frown on her face like she’s just tasted something sour, but the moment passes as she addresses Bellamy again.
“Gabriel and Octavia want to leave to check out the anomaly now. I packed everything I thought we’d need.”
Bellamy blinks hard – once, twice, then three times before he snaps back into action. “Right. Thanks, Echo.”
“How long do you think you’ll be?” Clarke asks, worry starting to seep into her bones once again.
“Should only be a few days,” Echo responds as Bellamy moves around the island to take the pack. “I’m not entirely convinced about Gabriel’s theory anyway so we may be back even sooner.”
Clarke looks between the two of them as they share a glance, a pang of jealousy searing its way through her chest. Forcing it down, she gives a genuine smile. “Okay. Please be safe. And look after each other?”
Echo nods quickly before turning to leave down the hallway and out the front door. Bellamy hesitates, turning back to Clarke. She raises her eyebrows expectantly.
“Don’t beat yourself up too much while I’m gone,” he says through a smile, but Clarke can hear the underlying uncertainty in his tone.
“I’ll try not to.”
“Good.”
Bellamy lingers still, his dark eyes searching her face. Clarke worries he’s about to get left behind so she makes a shooing motion with her hand, urging him to go.
“I’ll see you soon,” he says through a laugh. Turning, he strides down the hallway disappearing from her view.
With a sigh, Clarke glances back at the sink and watches as the last of the water empties, the vortex becoming smaller and smaller until there is nothing left to circle the drain.

Yo I think I can safely say the ONLY only Star Trek I do not like (and even then it has its merits) are the AOS movies. The plots are decent, I have my issues with Kirk & Spock and how they treated Uhura, and Danvers, and Chapel (pretty much all the women basically). But I actually don’t have any other serious complaints, it’s just the things I do have complaints about make them (or mostly just Into Darkness) a little hard to watch. I know I’ve made my qualms known but
I’ve been critical meta posting about AOS lately, so here’s some stuff I do like
Everyone else’s performance (I actually like Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as actors, I just don’t like the writing of their characters). Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho do fantastic! I also love Zoe Saldana with my whole heart as Uhura, but I only feel like they did her and the character like, ANY respect, until Star Trek: Beyond, and that’s like, 1 out of 3 movies, hopefully the fourth will keep up the positive progress!
I LOVE the timeline divergence of Vulcan getting destroyed, and Jim’s dad dying. I just, don’t like how it was handled. Like the plot concepts in and of themselves are cool! And the characters’ personalities SHOULD be altered by those events! I just don’t like, that of all the ways they could’ve changed Jim and Spock, they chose bad boy (as in actual womanizer instead of a mischaracterization) and angry, which I don’t think is true to either of their cores in ANY universe. Giving them an argumentative/adversarial dynamic was kinda saddening and painful to me, but again, that’s just my opinion.
I would’ve LOVED Into Darkness a heckuva lot more if Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t Khan, he was legitimately a great villain! While Kirk’s death scene is well done itself, the things that occur right before, and right after don’t sit right with me personally. Again if they didn’t try and make it WoK but still had the WoK elements in the death scene it would’ve been even better!
What the AOS movies lack in the elements of Kirk & Spock chemistry that I love in the original timeline, it made room for just, a TON of Spones and McKirk goodness (McKirk in the first, Spones in Beyond!)
I’m both glad and sad we don’t get a lot of nurse Chapel, the only reason I didn’t like her in TOS was how creepy she was toward Spock almost 24/7, if they’d have kept her and not have her sleep with Kirk (for no reason???) and just not done her creepiness with Spock I would’ve LOVED that characterization. I’m sure 90% of why AOS Bones is so stressed out is because Chapel isn’t there, he needs her, regardless of my opinions on her dynamic with Spock she has a wonderful one with Bones.
SULU IN THE CAPTAINS CHAIR SULU IN THE CAPTAINS CHAIR EVERYONE STFU SULU IS IN THE CAPTAINS CHAIR!!!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😍
Chekov is BABEY, different flavors of babey than in TOS but still BABEY
Speaking of Beyond, I genuinely feel like that’s the one where AOS got it’s crap together! I love it!
Uhura finally has a character arc that’s totally independent from Spock (genuinely glad they broke up regardless of whether it lasts, I just want uhura to not rely on a man and the things he does being built into her characterization okay? Okay.)
Jim and Spock have FINALLY started acting like themselves, and also Spones! In a format that’s right up my alley! (As in whump & caretaker lmao)
Scotty and a badass alien chick that we never get to see undress (unlike almost every female character with a speaking role in these movies up until now) and she was great!
IDRIS ELBA (that’s it, just Idris Elba, he’s my husband even in weird scary alien makeup)
Stopping the bad guys with optimism and The Beastie Boys is so beautifully, wonderfully on brand for Star Trek! I can’t believe I’m saying this but thanks JJ Abrams!
So like, I do not like AOS for a lot of reasons, but the most recent movie gave me hope, and I actually genuinely wanna see the fourth one that’s coming out in 2023 and I just really, REALLY hope it keeps going forward in improvement instead of regressing into the things I was meh about in Star Trek (2009) and genuinely hated in Into Darkness. Fingers crossed!!
