Do you have any recommendations for character modeling in blender?
Tumblr media
Ooh boy I never know how to respond to questions like that, but I'm gonna try my best and list some stuff which helped me personally, so hopefully this will be helpful to you guys too.
A lot of what im gonna say is probably gonna sound really generic but generally speaking just watching one tutorial series and calling it a day isn't gonna cut it.
Something that helped me a whole lot was having a clear goal in mind (like I remember the first thing I wanted to do was translate my OCs in 3D). Picking something I was invested in is what pushed me to do my own research (and now its Deltarune fan animations lol). Knowing how to maintain motivation and going in with the right mindset is the most important thing imo.
I use Blender for my 3D work, which is free and open source. I personally prefer it over paid software like Maya or 3dsMax, especially for modeling and sculpting (I remember I had to use Max and Maya for a while but overall it was a pretty agonizing experience to be honest, so I switched back to Blender, which just feels a whole lot easier to use for me personally lol, but really at the end of the day just pick the software you want. This is just my personal preference). If you have a potato laptop like me, I definitely advise you to use Blender tho as it is very lightweight compared to other 3D programs, plus it can do the same things and then some. Not to mention there are way more free resources on Blender stuff so it's easier to get access to the info you need. Anyways Blender-simping over, moving on!
Tutorials are always a great idea, but you're also gonna have to learn how to do problem-solving. 3D can be a really technical and rigid medium, so being patient and knowing how to do independent learning is very important. Take a look at box-modeling, sculpting, texturing and procedural shading. Unfortunately that's gonna involve a lot of annoying situations and moments of immeasurable pain, but once you're more familiar with how things work, it's super fun and rewarding!
Don't forget to have fun and experiment! It's easy to get lost and overwhelmed by the technical aspects of 3D but it's important to just let go and make silly things. Also talking to other 3d artists with similar interests helps a ton, especially more experienced ones but I am aware not everyone has access to that (plus not everyone might want that, esp when you're an introvert like me haha!)
If you gotta sell your soul to a corporation then focusing on one particular subset is gonna be useful for animation jobs, as this is what most studios want. Some artists might like specializing into just one area, and that's totally fine but for me who prefers to be a generalist, it just kinda ruins my joy for 3D to restrict myself to just one part of it. Plus if you enjoy doing what you do, you tend to learn a lot faster anyway.
This might be a bit of an uncommon take, but one of the most stifling pieces of advice I have received from industry 3D artists is to only focus on one thing (as in, only skill up your UV-unwrapping, or only do rigging, only do hard-surface modeling, only do organic environment modeling and so on). NUH-UH! Just do what you want fam. Make the spoingle-boingles pet cats. Focus on the things you like. Make barney the dinosaur destroy the whole set. Model, rig and animate them if you want. Really, just have fun. Obviously you gotta do some self-checks and see where you need to improve, and where your strengths and weaknesses are, and focusing on those areas can be very helpful. Just make sure you're having a good time doing it, and don't be too harsh on yourself. Definitely take a break if you're overwhelmed.
You don't have to be able to draw to be good at character modeling but making turnaround sketches helps me a whole lot whenever I make 3D characters. Knowing how to draw will also benefit your sense of design and shapes, as you can use your drawing skills for texturing and adding your own flair to your models.
Another thing I would do is look at other people's 3D models and study the topology and the way they model things. This also helps a lot with motivation. Obviously you don't wanna copy, just study the way other people model things and see what other talented artists come up with! There are a bunch of free Blender rigs you can download and study on your own, not to mention useful videos and streams on YouTube. The Rain and Snow rigs are pretty awesome. Some of this stuff is behind a paywall but I recommend checking out the free resources of the "Settlers" project for highly cartoony modeling and rigging (this playlist is very useful, I didn't watch all of it but some parts have been pretty inspirational to me). Also just following 3D artists you like and looking at their art for inspiration will help you stay motivated.
Hope this is useful!

for pumpkin season:
pumpkin & sweet potato crème soup 🍠 🎃
it turned out worse than expected cuz i added to much milk so its more like a smoothie. still not bad tho.
its also one of those recipes where i try to substitute animal products with plant based ones.
ingredients:
pumpkin
sweet potatoes
coconut milk
cut veggies and roast them covered in some oil. i salted potatoes and used cinnamon on pumpkin.
Tumblr media
while they are roasting i warmed up the milk on the stove. when the veggies are ready i cut them into smaller pieces throw into the blender and add to the milk. i also recommend blendering it with milk for a smoother consistency.
Tumblr media
it was pretty simple and pretty good, just watch the milk amount to not screw up like yours truly
(>人<;)
the taste reminds me of baby food. its pretty sweet, but i enjoyed it. happy fall holidays (if you celebrate any) i had a pretty nice samhain! till next time peeps 🐭

Y'know I know ask games are for people to, y'know, send in asks. But I don't see people often just. Fill it all out themselves. Fuck it I'll help out the shy people.
SO ASK GAME BELOW 'READMORE' LET'S GO
1. Art programs you have but don't use: MS Paint, Blender, I used to have WAY more like this one painting [like actual paint] program.
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even): Left is easiest, Right is in the middle, and forward is the hardest of those three for me.
3. What ideas come from when you were little: I was fascinated by G/T from like. 3 years old. I blame Super Mario Land 2 LMAO
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw: Handheld, perspective, monsters/creatures, and massive scale
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself: Uhhh probably about 50/50? A lot of things I draw are spoilers, shitposts, and other study art I don't bother sharing.
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it): Not that I can think of? My art doesn't get analyzed super often. I think people think I study anime more than I do.
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate: Charcoal, watercolors, sculpture, oil pastels, acrylic, copic markers
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in: Originally I was going to make an AMV with my two characters, Nonny and Felicia, to the song 'shut up and dance with me'. These two aren't active OCs anymore, and the project was WAY too ambitious for my skill level 9 years ago lmao.
9. What are your file name conventions: 1: Name of song I listened to on loop while drawing. 2: An inside joke. 3: Literal rep of what's on the canvas like 'Hema doodles Aug 2023'.
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw: Body suits, capes, scarves
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what: TONS. My fave lyrical music, videogame soundtracks, sometimes just ambiance if I'm overwhelmed. Usually tho it's the same song on loop till I get the inspired piece out of my system.
12. Easiest part of body to draw: Eyes!
13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing: A lot of NSFW artists who I won't list here LMAO. I don't go to that school, but their art skills are top-notch.
14. Any favorite motifs: Mirrors, doppelgangers, leaving 1 eye absent for emotional effect, feathers/wings, falling, sinking into water, eyes, dark palettes with bright accents/light sources, glowing eyes, flowing hair, size difference/scale, fucked up version of self vs real version
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth): Starbucks, home, parks if I'm feelin spicy, anywhere I take my tablet for the day.
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing: A lot of my niche/kink stuff tends to get pretty dredge-y for me. I may be good at it, but it's not where my passion lies. That's in animation, fantasy, dramatic stuff, storytelling, etc.
17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what: Water or Snapple for the drink, milk if it's bedtime so I can settle down, and then usually the snacks are just whatever my lunch is for the day since we don't have a table.
18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken: Not many! Less than $100 I'd say. I'm very careful with my supplies, and I don't believe I've ever broken a tablet. The worst I've done was I busted 1 or 2 cheap tablet pens with stupidity.
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.): Definitely nature. Tree trunks and swirls therein, flowers, grass.
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy: Humans! Not that it's an 'everyone' thing, I just run in some furry circles where human artists are a rarity. Eyes, too. Some people find expressions rly hard.
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways: Uhhh man damn, I don't follow a lot of art styles that aren't something I took inspo from? But I guess Wolf Walkers is my biggest one.
22. What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any: Sooometimes I stretch, but I don't do it nearly often enough.
23. Do you use different layer modes: Yep! My most common ones are Multiply, Glow Dodge, Add, Add Glow, Overlay, Pin Light, and Color.
24. Do your references include stock images: Absolutely! Reference is important.
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by: Not much! Most of my inspirations are pretty clear-cut and strong. Avatar, SU, Disney, Dreamworks, FMA, some Warner Brothers' movies, etc.
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended: God, so, the G/T gif of mine that makes the rounds a lot? The one where VT finds someone small and it's their POV and he helps them and puts them in his shirt pocket??? Most people were completely normal about that post. But then there's one chuckle-head who was calling it pocket-vore, and I wanted to scream. I even chastised them like 'hey uh, no. That's not what this is.' and they argued back with 'well it's up to the eye of the beholder more than your opinion.' and I was like 'UH NO. I MADE THIS. MY OPINION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR WEIRD ONE???' I've also RAAARELY had people call my characters underaged when they're all well over 21, so those are always gross/wild LMAO.
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with: Sometimes! I usually do an anatomy study, brush stroke warm-ups, or just doodle something personal first.
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines): I think Multi Animator Projects [MAPS] would count here! I was part of Starclan's Chosen, Change Your Mind [Brambleclaw], Levitating, Family of Me [fallenleaves], Goosebumps Warriors MAP, Pay No Mind MEP, LA Devotee [never finished], White Rabbit, and Fear Garden! Among others :>
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically: Not much! Pretty much everything I love inspires me artistically. I guess some anime styles?
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated: Pretty much any of my animations. But I only feel that way cuz they take THE MOST dedication and work time. Also kiiiinda my writing? But a lot of people have trouble getting people to respond to literature, so.

Let's continue the small talk we're having with asks like the old days, haha! I enjoyed asks blogs a lot, it was a blast! Tho at least in the Homestuck fandom things where kinda segregated from fancharacters and canon ones (I come form ages where having OCs interacting with canon was like a sin and let alone self inserts like I do myself, we were seen as lesser creative people...) Giacomo's name in Japanese is literally the word for pineapple in Spanish, Piña (I'm from Mexico, I lost my mind to see some of the characters are named after food in Japan lol). And I see now about the references you took for him, I always wondered how people rip the 3D models, still I like the lil flab on him uwu (I'm a overweight gal and finding characters to relate is hard ;w; )
Haha, sure thing! XD
Yeah, ask blogs were great, it’s a shame people aren’t really doing them any more because something I enjoyed a lot was interacting with other ask blogs... the upside is that I can make Giacomo a side blog and not have to worry about not being able to send out asks as him XD;; It’s a bit easier...
It’s interesting, the OC interacting with canon thing... the only fandom I did that for really was Bokumono (Harvest Moon) and it was generally accepted, so I haven’t experienced people being seriously against OCs as such... but with Bokumono, you’re expected to have OCs I suppose! Especially now the games have character creators...
Yeah, hahaha! XD I love they just went all in on food names this time. Like Rika is Chilli... and is basically an anthro chilli pepper (that hair), I think it’s charming. ¦D I can see they’ve tried to translate the names faithfully... but it’s a shame some has been lost in translation. Giacomo really is a pineapple when you think about it... the yellow stocky body with spiky hair on top... spiky exterior, sweet interior... checks out, huh?
I mean, you CAN see it in the game, you don’t need to have the models XD You can see it in his pose when you battle him and it pauses the cam on him holding out the ball at you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see it when he first comes in sitting on top of the Starmobile
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And you can see it at least when he talks and gestures
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In any case, that’s the inspiration, regardless. XD Here’s the funny “stumbling on the Starmobile” one people can never see up close as a bonus
Tumblr media
The more you know, hahaha
On how to rip them... I’m not sure how people get the files out of the games, but the raw files were shared on the forum of model resource... I had to convert the model using a script somebody had written so it could be opened in Blender, then use... Switch Toolbox I think... to convert his textures to PNG so Blender could read them... I don’t actually have a Windows OS new enough to be able to import the models fully textured (a Python incompatibility =() and when I do, the model loses it’s rigging... so I had to tell this file where to find what texture, which is why it’s not perfect... I then had to use Switch Toolbox to take the model’s armature and convert all the animations for it into something that Blender could see with a plug in... it’s all very hit and miss thrown together, but it works well enough that I can see the animations on the model and turn them around in 3D, which was good enough as reference for making plush and drawing for the ask blog... I really hope somebody rips him properly soon though. XD
Edit;
Here’s Team Star lined up with each other! Eri is SERIOUSLY tall... she’s taller than Larry and Larry is TALL so... If you consider Mela and Penny to be 5′02″, it makes Giacomo 6′00″, Larry something like 6′03″ by that scale, standing up straight instead of slouched, if I remember right... Ortega 4′07″ and Eri a whopping 6′06″! I’m not sure they considered what their heights would be when scaling them in game, hahaha XD
(Fair note, these numbers are speculation and worked out by laying a height chart over them and trying to be reasonable to Ortega, they’re in no way canon since I’m pretty sure we don’t have a reference point number to base it on!)

Whoops almost forgot after October I decided to post short movie review on here for each months movies I watch
Novembers list will be much shorter and much worse than Octobers i don't know if it is bad luck or it is just that i lost just wasn't feeling it most of November.
I will format it so that it is readable this time i promise. expect some small spoilers
Class of Nuke em High 3/10
I watched a couple of Troma movies and enjoyed them during October this is where that luck ended.
It had some fun 80s punk aesthetics and the monster design was not bad in the end
but I don't recommend this one
Book Of Monsters 6/10
Book of Monsters is about a girl whos mother was killed by monsters when she was younger and it turns out she was a monster hunter with a whole book about those monsters and their weaknesses
and then they never utilize this plot device to it's potential if they did some fairy tale like passages or rhymes out of the book describing the lore of each monster this movie it would have taken this movie to the next level.
the monster designs are hit and miss but mostly hits and good ones at that.
Jabberwocky 6/10
I went into this one pretty blind I must admit I was not expecting it to be an early Monty Python movie.
It is not as comical or well put together as Holy Grail but it is honestly a legitimately decent fantasy movie and it should be on more fantasy movie lists people are missing out on this one.
there is someone shitting or pissing in almost every scene.
Beyond Re-Animator 7/10
i finished the trilogy and I enjoyed it. once again this series provides very good practical effects
I won't spoil much but some rat dna gets into the mix with the formula to revive the dead and while no one physically turns into a big rat monster but I think it still adds a lot of fun to this movie
Herbert West gets a new sidekick that should know better than to work with this man.
apparently there are more movies in the series but eh...
SPOILERS- I watched the mid/after credits scene with the rat fighting the animated severed penis and it is less gross than you imagine and so fun it honestly makes the whole movie on it's own.
Digging Up The Marrow 6/10
a documentary style Horror movie where they interview a suspicious elderly man about an underground city of monsters he believes exists
this movie makes some fun stylistic choices and is surprisingly compelling.
Phantasm III and V 6/10
I watched more of the Phantasm series that was available at the time it seems Tubi has uploaded more since but I already watched it way out of order
anyway tho the budget gets lower and the acting worse this series still offers good practical effects and an intimidating villain
Possum 4/10
Chillerama N/A
I could not finish this one and I will not recommend this Horror/comedy compilation
It is designed to be edgy and offensive
on the plus side most of what i saw was well made and had good designs.
this is the movie with the sexy dancing statue of liberty theres a gif of it here on tumblr
has a literal sperm whale
Slumber 4/10
a movie about a doctor helping a family deal with a parasitic nightmare demon
tbh that description seems inaccurate and she seems like a bad doctor.
i could not finish this one and here is my warning on that
CONTAINS- a person sticking there hand in a blender ( no injury) and one brutal animal death scene all for shock value.
Wicked City 6/10
I went into this one expecting a bloody 80s horror anime with a bunch of nudity
but I think It is more like a heavily christian themed hentai but if Christianity was about psychic powers and creating peace through monster fucking
most of the sex scenes are meant to horrify not titillate and not because of the monster fucking that is unrelated.
contains a very annoying version of master Roshi from Dragonball
I know this all sounds bad and like i hate the movie but it does have very good art
The Bone Snatcher 5/10
Hawk The Slayer 5/10
this was a passable fantasy movie and it is likely the last major sword and sorcery movie from the 80s that i will see I might track a few more down but thats is mostly extra now.
the story, the acting, the costuming and the practical effects budget are all just for the most part not very good
This is a typical fantasy where warriors from the various fantasy races come together to defend against evil we have two humans, an elf, a dwarf, and a giant but the budget is low so they mostly just look like normal humans with normal height differences
But I do enjoy the witch character and this movie features one of my low key favorite actors Peter O'Farrel who other notable fantasy roles include one of the goblins in Legend and motherfucking ODO from the Darkest Knight
I recommend watching those movies if you haven't seen them and probably watching the Darkest Knight series which i have not done yet
Hellarious 7/10
I recommend seeing this horror comedy compilation instead of chillerama.
there are 7 stories they are all very simple and lower budget but I guarantee at least one of them will suit every horror taste
I like the first couple stories best anyway go in blind don't spoil this one.
Class of 1999 7/10
Return to Horror High 5/10
gonna be honest I couldn't follow the plot of this one.
Aenigma 4/10
it was bold of this movie to start with the protagonist being bullied by like 15 people at once until they accidentally put her in a coma and then expect us to not side with her supernatural revenge
tho here methods for taking that revenge were very strange.
I wish this movie was as cool as the post/cover makes it look
Phenomena 5/10
this one is about a girl with a psychic connection with insects which she uses to solve murders and intimidate her bullies which seem to include almost everyone.
the people in this movie act very strange I think it might be an issue with script translating the scipt.
the insect power does not play as big of a role as they should and are mostly about flies and maggots which I do understand since they are all real insects which was very ambitious and must have taken a lot of time and attempts just to get those insects to do what they wanted
this movie has a chimp that did bite the leading actress and that did not need to happen this movie did not need a chimp.
Zombie Strippers 5/10
this movie is exactly what you expect with the exception that it does include a hostile conservative takeover of the government
and the military is at fault for there being zombie strippers
if the comedy and horror elements of a movie about zombie strippers sounds like something you would like then watch it if it sounds like you would hate it then do not watch it, whatever your gut feeling for yourself on this one is you are correct
Robot Carnival 8/10
this was a beautiful anime movie compilation of stories all about robots it is pure art and at time pure nightmare
anyway going down the rabbit hole of artsy mostly forgotten old anime movies after this one.
2001 Maniacs 6/10
SPOILERS- a group of young tourists take a detour on their way to spring break and end up forced to except the hospitality of the very southern town they end up in after following this detour sign
anyway the towns people are all racist cannibals planning to kill the springbreakers
MATH + DEEP SPOILERS- the evil towsnfolks plan will take hundreds of years if no more than 6 people show up per year just saying
Evolution (2015) 4/10
watch 2001's American evolution movie instead of this they are unrelated but I am giving you my honest recommendation
Two Evil Eyes 6/10
not the best Edgar Allen Poe adaptation but it is a good one
Piranha Women 3/10
basically a low budget scifi channel movie, from the title you might expect a more traditional piranha fish people transformation and a lot of underwater scenes.....
but nope it is mostly on dry land and the women have piranha mouths on their breasts
Necromancer 3/10
imagine they took Hellraiser and took out all the beautiful practical effects away and decided it needed more uncomfortable late 70s style sex scenes like the one in Hellraiser we all forget about
but then also being almost SFW
ironically contains no real necromancy just a demon that can imitate people that make a deal with her but with nasty red hands
warning contains- 3 castrations and 1 rape scene
The Unnamable 5/10
The Neon dead 5/10
Mortal Engines 4/10
The Creeping Flesh 5/10
I remembered watching the second half of this movie and being very fascinated by it. but I fell asleep 3 times trying to watch it this time.
the Mutilator 5/10
a rare slasher where most of the victims and the slasher are nearly impossible to sympathize with
in true shooting fish in a barrel fashion the bad decisions of his victims lead to the slasher barely having to move until the last 20 minutes to kill most of the characters

house of the dead remake thoughts
THEY DIDNT FIX ANY OF THE TYPOS FROM THE SWITCH VERSION LMFAOO like obviously that wasnt make or break for me but MAN LOL it was an Experience seeing “anty-aliasing” and “happend” like come on man did you guys not have the budget to turn on spell checker in google docs
sound design and foley is absolutely delicious. its got proper effects for each environment (reverb for large areas, there was some gunshot echo even) and u can FEEL the impact of each bullet. i noticed it had proper ricochet foley for every material too (it sounds different if u hit metal vs rock etc) even the footsteps have proper foley for whatever ur stepping on and ofc the gore sound effects were fuckign great they sound really juicy
gun gameplay is fucking fantastic with a mouse n keyboard i dont have a switch coz im fucking poor but it seems like such a better experience than the dogshit gyro controls everyone was struggling with on the switch version. outside of an actual lightgun a mouse is the best option to play games like this so who fucking knows why they released it on the switch before the pc. THE AUTO RELOAD FEATURE IS ALSO SUCH A LIFESAVER
THE GORE. i loveeee taking chunks out of these fucking things just blowing their heads off seeing their entrails spill when you blast their torso watching their fucking arms fall off n whatever its fucking great. i love that you can keep unloading your mag into them even after they fall down its so fun
new ost is obviously nothing compared to the original but ofc i dont blame the music team for this they tried their best to capture the spirit of the original even with the legal hurdles they had. im gonna install one of the mods to replace it with the original soundtrack and see how it changes the experience
THE LIGHTING IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE SWITCH VERSION. its way more atmospheric and honestly captures the kinda gothic feel a lot? the lighting on both hangedman fights is especially delicious
the issue from the switch version where the textures were garbage and everything looked like it was covered in petroleum jelly is mostly fixed i believe? i cld see the fabric texture on rogans jacket really nicely after magicians fight
MAGICIANS FIGHT TAKES TOO FUCKING LONG. I HAVE BORDERLINE CARPAL TUNNEL AFTER FINISHING THAT SHIT. hes way easier to hit than in the first 2 games but i feel like that takes away the fun of it :( the death animation on him is fucking great tho it really looks like the fire inside of him is like bursting out that shit was so much better than what they did in all the other games
a lot of enemies in general take way more bullets to kill than their counterparts from the original game which is kinda bullshiet. and sometimes they keep attacking you even when their head is blown off like. ok thanks. that sucked
the animation on the enemies was pretty great for the most part but man. i miss chariots waggle dance. that was where the challenge of hitting his weakspot came from plus it was motion captured instead of animated by hand in the original! but i do like that they had the hermit fucking fall on its back and its legs curled up like a real spider that was hilarious. but the animation on the scientists that u have to rescue SUUUUCKS its so. stilted like babys first blender animation
THE CUTSCENES WITH ROGAN WERE SO FUCKING GOOD. it actually made me think Ok yea this guys cool and kindof a badass im pretty sure the animation budget went to him instead of the rescue npcs 💀
overall i enjoyed it who is fucking surprised of course id love it. chariot my boy in my heart forever

anyways i rambled
November was good, i started substance painter work. It was a tutorial but i learned the software and i think that kinda helped a lot even tho i forgot most of it already. It made me understand the differences between the different texture maps that existed and how you can paint onto each for different material effects.
December was 5.4 release, i didn't do anything. January was Savage tier raidng, i didn't do anything. February i continued raiding and i didn't do anything outside of some art jobs for which i got paid handsomely.
March i spent coping with the year long pandemic and the approaching end of my student status. I start panicking over my weak portfolio and that i need a job to sustain myself. i reflected how March 20 was rough due to my bachelor application and I basically lost the entire 2020 on bachelor panic and i came out with very very amateur work in the end. March April 21 is where i started to slowly pick myself up. I started to think what projects i could do, what i needed, but i didn't do my market research as i should've, and i lowkey wish someone would've just smacked my head and put more pressure on me to just get properly started but alas. In April i started building a Maya animation rig for my character. It went semi successful as the character mesh was broken up at many parts which messed up the skinning massively, but the rig itself is functioning and with okay-ish IK handles, facial rig and tail and ear rigs. I could not animate it in the end due to the skinning issues.
My priorities right now is a well-payed solid job position for at least a year or so to build my social identity as atm i am nobody in this society system.
I gave up on becoming a 3D animator at the start of May.
Throughout May played xiv again and enjoyed fanfest a lot. After fanfest i started raiding e12s daily, the hardest fight at the game at that time. I founded a beautiful raid group in the 2-3 weeks we raided together. June i had trouble with my family, i didn't do anything outside of raiding. I started checking the market possibilities more properly but i could not make the connection in my brain between the market and my skillsets. Jobstress continued on therefore. End of June i went on vacation for a week.
July I came back from vacation and immediately started to check my job possibilities. I started writing down what skills i was lacking for job positions with my titles, i started digging out documentations and tutorials on substance designer and blender as a result. I learned the ways of Substance Designer up to a solid intermediate level. I learned the interface and ways of rendering with Blender, up to a simple intermediate level. I found a mass of Material Art resources and source files that i am still digging through step by step every other day.
I was sure I could make it as a Material Artist or 3D Generalist like this, given that my bachelor project was focusing entirely around shader/material creation for artists to use, but it is hard to find junior positions in that area, and my general 3D skills are very limited around Shader/Material Creation and Level Design with a serious lack of fully self-created 3D environments without majorly relying on other 3D model assets.
I was invited to work at 2 other projects during July. One is a project with friends, the other is a realistic UE game project with old industry people that i used to meet when i still worked. I have started another project with a friend to create Unity assets for the asset store in order to get more environment pieces for both our portfolios done. I feel positive about the Unity assets, but insecure about the UE project as my experiences with realistic textures and models is scarce and very much amateur work. However the people in the UE project are industry veterans, and I learn a lot about optimization from them which prompts me to stay. They were also very understanding of my limited time situation which helped massively.
For now I very clearly want to be a technical person in the pipeline, so i figured that stopping my substance projects for now to refocus on UE VFX and blueprint scripting will definitely be a very good skillset to have on my folio
in the end i just wrote this to reflect on the past months that i've lived thru after my horrific graduation. I'm still upset there was no graduation ceremony, no handshaking,no congratulating. I got my thanks from my both professors over zoom and never saw them again, so the transition from student to graduate was very blurry and confusing. I have also spent a lot of time recovering from my stress injury that i've received throughout the past year, which is probably why i've spent so many months just gaming and resting big time. I was not in a state of health to continue on with work these past months, even though i wish i had just never suffered through this type of burnout so i could've entered graduate programs of different studios in time, but alas. It's still very hard for me to keep a routine up, but at least i know my boundaries a bit better now and I try to handle my limit while not disappointing with the volume of work i present as well.
I'm proud of myself for finishing my academic degree even though the skillsets that i truly needed to get a job have only been acquired through the past month or so. I'll try become a tech artist for now and get really good at UE's blueprint and VFX pipeline in order to advance further into this career.

"do you have the time to listen to me whine about nothing and everything all at once?”
What does your car smell like? You assume I have a car. Would you ever let anybody else drive your car? ^ Have you ever met someone in person who you first met on the internet? Do you have plans to do that anytime soon? Yes, Sara. I want to visit her again, but right now I have no clue when that will happen. I have another friend that wants me to shoot her wedding that was planned for this year, but it was delayed to an unknown date, so. What was the last thing you used a blender for? A margarita. Have you ever got into an argument with a stranger on social media? Do you remember what it was about? Yep. There's been a couple. Has COVID had any impact on your Christmas plans this year? What’s going to change or be different to normal? Yes. Mom and I aren't coming while Ashley's inlaws are there at her house, and then I think we're going to my other sister's since she wants to cook? I've only really overheard Mom over the phone, I'm not 100%. I'm just. Going with it. What’s your favourite flavor of cake? Are you any good at making that kind of cake? Probably red velvet, or just double chocolate. I dunno. I love cake. I don't cook, though. Are you currently under any COVID-related restrictions where you live? Are people generally following the rules? Well, you're SUPPOSED to wear a fucking mask, but "it's a hoax" and "you can't make me" fuckheads don't listen, and it's poorly-enforced. You see people without them all the time. Do you still watch cartoons? I'm not opposed, I just don't watch television. Is anyone else in the same room as you right now? What is that person up to? No. Do you use Pinterest? Ha, I get most of my (unedited) avatars from there. It also gives me some pose ideas for photography. Are you wearing earrings? Ugh, no. I absolutely hate how the first holes stretched from heavy earrings. I need to get a proper tapering set if I want to actually use gauges (mind you, very small) so they look even semi-good again. I don't wear any in the second/upper holes because I think it just looks weird with nothing in the first. Do you know any sign language? Not anymore. In elementary school, we did do a play however where in one of the songs, we signed the lyrics. I remember zero. Have you ever gone on a service trip to an underprivileged country? No. Which breed of dog do you find most scary? None. Ever been to a pottery class? Not particularly, no. I've made pottery in normal art classes multiple times, though. When you were young, did you ever pretend to “marry” somebody? I have no idea. I don't have a specific memory. Don’t you just find it annoying when people get too much plastic surgery? Oh, fuck off. Is it your body? Is it there to boost YOUR confidence? Then your opinion doesn't fuckin matter. Are you the type who usually plays it safe? Yep. Who do you think about most? It's certainly not willingly, but Jason. PTSD kinda engraved his presence in my brain. How’s your grandmother? Both are dead. What’s your favourite type of cloud? Big, tall, and poofy cumulonimbus ones. Do you have a birthmark? Where? Does it look like anything? Yeah, a slightly darker brown blotch on the side of my right forearm, near the elbow. If you were blind for the rest of your life… what would you miss seeing the most? Probably people smiling. My nieces' and nephew's came to mind first. What is your most disappointing moment in life? I've been living it for years now. I'm not who I wanted or thought I would be at all. What is the best reward anyone can give you? Validation lmao. What is your favorite animal? List three adjectives to explain your choice. Meerkats, always. God, I can barely boil it down to three words. Loyal, complex, and brave will have to do. What is your favorite color? List three adjectives to explain your choice. Pink. Soft, pretty, gentle. What do you consider to be the most valuable thing you own: when you were a child/teenager/now? As a child, my big plastic crocodile named Marlin (yes, after the Finding Nemo character) that was the "main character" in my games of make-believe. As a teen, probably Rebel, the stuffed meerkat Jason gave me. Now, it's absolutely the pebble I got upon "graduation" from my partial hospitalization program. What’s the kindest act you have ever seen done? I'm not sure; I've seen a good deal. Thinking of only the ones I've seen in-person, uhhhh... wait. A couple days before my overdose, in desperation, I called Jason's house in the middle of the night wanting to talk to him. His mom answered, and she talked to me for hours with such patience and kindness to try and calm me down. I miss her a lot. Is Frozen one of your favorite Disney movies? No, I never really liked it. If you were an explorer, would you rather explore the Arctic Circle, Antarctica, or Alaska? Ohhh, Alaska. It's gorgeous and at least not absolutely frigid everywhere. How many blankets do you sleep with in the winter? I usually just have my usual thick comforter, but if I'm seriously cold, I'll grab another smaller one to wrap myself in underneath the big one. Do you know of anyone who was in labor or gave birth to a baby during a major snowstorm? HAHA my mama w/ me. Do you enjoy eggnog during the winter - with or without alcohol? EW. Do you dress any of your pets in seasonal/holiday apparel? No; I really dislike the concept of dressing your animals unless it's truly for their own benefit/warmth. Who was the last person to give you a gift? What was the reason for it? Uhhhhh. I have no idea. Are you a good cook? If so, who taught you? What’s your favourite thing to cook? NOOOOOOO. When was the last time something in your house broke? Did you manage to fix it or did you need to buy a replacement? Ugh, my laptop is fucked up. It's either the charger port, charger itself, or Mom thinks perhaps the battery. Her friend's husband is gonna look at it after Christmas. Is any part of your body hurting right now? What caused that pain? For once my legs aren't hurting. They almost always do from either muscle atrophy or them having been still for too long. The last time you made a sandwich, what did you put in there? It was just a normal 'ole peanut butter sandwich. What’s your favorite time of day? What’s your favorite thing to do at that time? First thing in the morning, because it feels like a new start. I like watching the sky change from pinkish to blue while I'm just sitting in bed checking everything. Where did you go the last time you left your house? I rode with Mom to her doctor's appointment. I didn't go in w/ her for obvious reasons, I just wanted to go on a ride and listen to music. If you eat steak, how do you like it cooked? What sauces or sides do you like to go with it? It has to be medium well. Idk what sauces are cooked into it that I like, because I don't make it. I like fries with steak, and probably Sara's mom's mashed potatoes would go well, haha. Do you prefer sweet or savory pancakes? What toppings do you have on them? I can't imagine me liking savory pancakes... I just like the usual: butter (not mandatory tho) and syrup. Are you someone who cracks their joints a lot? Which one(s) do you tend to crack and click the most? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NO NO NO, I HATE THE NOISE SO MUCH. My lower spine pops a lot, though. Some fingers occasionally, too. Have you ever taken medication or tablets to help you sleep? Is this something you do on a regular basis? Yeah, I was taking Melatonin to fight insomnia for quite a while. I only stopped it because my mom was theorizing that it may have been making my nightmares worse, because her dad had AWFUL nightmares on it. I don't know if it did or didn't foor me, honestly. For you, what’s the worst thing about getting up in the morning? What about the worst thing about going to bed tonight? Knowing in the back of my mind that despite my hope, today's going to be the same as yesterday. I dread most nights the process of lying down and actually falling asleep, because it can take hours. Do you prefer regular or diet soft drinks? Not only do I think diet sodas taste bad, but the artificial sweetener gives me awful headaches, anyway. What do you tend to wear if you’re just hanging about the house for the day? I'm only always in my pjs. When was the last time you dyed your hair? Did you do it yourself or get it done at a hairdresser? Ugh... it's been a very, very long time. It was done by a hairdresser, but per usual, the color didn't stick well. I am DYING to bleach my hair so I can dye it pastel pink, light silver, or like a creamsicle orange. I edited some pictures of myself to "try" these colors on, and omg I loved them all. Does having to wear a mask stop you doing things? Is this because you struggle wearing one or you just don’t like it? Not really, no. I barely go anywhere at all though, so I have Have you ever witnessed a car accident? Or have you perhaps been involved in one yourself? Were you at fault? Yes; yes; no. How many books do you read in a year? Do you enjoy reading or do you have to really force yourself to sit down and read? VERY few. I've only just gotten back into semi-regularly reading since Sara got me into Wings of Fire. I have one friend though that is an INCREDIBLE bookworm; she keeps track of how many books she's read in a year, and she's already beyond one a day. It's incredible. If you have pets, where did they come from? A breeder, a rescue or maybe a friend who bred their pet? Roman came from Ashley's inlaws'. They have like an infestation of cats needing to be spayed, so they didn't at all mind letting me have one because I'd been wanting a cat for a long time. I love my baby boy so much. Venus came from The Gourmet Rodent, a snake breeding (and F/T rat provider, as the name suggests) business from Florida. I highly recommend them. Their customer service was fantastic when I was worried about Venus not eating. They even checked up with me a few months following my emails to ensure she was doing well. Have you ever seen an episode of My 600lb Life? No. I absolutely NEVER could. As an obese person who's been fighting her fucking ass off to lose weight for years, I don't want to be further depressed. Do you feel bad when someone asks you to hang out and you say no? Oh yes I do. Ngl, if I don't want to hang for whatever reason, I'm the kind that makes up an excuse to not seem *as* "rude" (quotations bc it's technically not rude at all, anxiety just tells me it is). When was the last time you turned down plans with someone? What did you decide to do instead? Ummmm I'm not sure. Have you ever had any “unusual” or exotic pets? If you could own any animal, what would it be and why? Do you consider iguanas or Chinese water dragons as "exotic/unusual?" Nothing stranger than that, really. I would never, ever own a truly exotic animal that wouldn't do well in captivity. I do however pretty desperately want to rescue an opposum one day, though. I positively adore them; they're my second-favorite animal. How often do you wash your hair? I don't even have a regular schedule for that anymore, honestly... I have to every time I shower because my hair gets oily FAST, but I try to put off showers as long as I can handle now because of how bad my selfcare has been for multiple reasons... What have you found the hardest about the current pandemic? Not seeing an end in sight because people are fucking dumb. Shit's not going to get better unless things drastically change. And what about the easiest? Has anything improved in your life because of what’s happened? Certainly nothing has improved. Not much has changed for me, considering I barely ever left the house to begin with. If you have multiple pets, do they get along with each other? Are they related or even the same species? They ignore each other, really. Surprisingly, even. Roman will sit on my bed and watch Venus slither about occasionally if she's out, even meerkat pose haha, and playful as he is, it's unexpected that he *does* mostly ignore her. What was the last meal you ate? Did you have anything good? Breakfast; I had Special K cereal. I've finally started to get back on track with eating okay. Do you live somewhere where strangers say hi to you in the street? Would you like to live somewhere like that? Where we live now, if you pass someone outside in the car, it's normal and really expected to give a little wave. That's very normal here in the South though, really; you don't just have to be in your own neighborhood. Have you ever tried any of those meal replacement shakes? The chocolate Equate ones are normal in my diet, actually. They're really not bad at all and played a big role in me losing ~60lbs before. Funnily enough, I haven't found a popular name brand I like, though. Cheap stuff isn't always bad. Do you make up silly nicknames for your pets or family members? "Silly" ones, not really, besides Roman. I call him "weirdo" and "crazy" a lot, but nothing truly unique. What’s your favorite thing to take photographs of? Are you actually any good at photography? Nature or boudoir (only shot it once, but I love it and the confidence it gives people). Being as modest as possible, I honestly do think I'm pretty good at it. Do you have anything interesting planned for the rest of the day? How about for tomorrow or the weekend? I haven't had anything interesting planned in eons, it seems like. Are you going to take the vaccine for COVID once it becomes available? Once it proves to be reliable and safe, hell yes. I'm doing my goddamn part in ending this shit. How much housework have you done lately? Is this more or less than usual? A bit more than usual since I haven't finished decorating my room since moving... I've been doing it very slowly and gradually. I need to just finish it already, I'm just so unmotivated. What gifts are you hoping to get for your next birthday (or Christmas, whichever one is coming up next)? I'm fucking dying to get my tat redone/improved. Been waiting since LAST Christmas when I didn't get to use my own gifted money. Do you suffer from any form of motion sickness? No. Do you contribute regularly to any Facebook groups at all? "I’m a member of plenty, but hardly ever post." <<<< Same. I react to posts a lot, though. Just don't really make my own. When was the last time you weighed yourself? Were you happy with the numbers you saw? Ugh... when I went to the doctor I think last week. I knew it'd be bad, but the verification fucking sucked. Since moving, I've gained ~30lbs. Have you got any chronic health issues? What do you do to try and manage them as best you can? YIKES I am a CATASTROPHE. I've got a dictionary of mental health issues that I'm not gonna go through individually, but I deal with them via prescription medications and therapy and sheer will. Who taught you how to drive? My driver's ed teacher. It was mandatory in HS. What was your high school mascot? A firebird. Did you go to your senior prom? Yes. What did you do after graduation? I very briefly went to a community college. What was your first job? GameStop sales associate. If my social anxiety wasn't fucking shit, I probably would have liked it. What did you want to be when you grew up? Somewhat in order: paleontologist, vet, movie director, game designer, animal biologist, video editor (VERY brief), and photographer. Writer, poet, and artist were always something I wanted to do in my free time OR full time if I was lucky. Do you remember the first time you drank a beer? I've never tried beer and don't want to. It smells fucking awful, and because my dad is a recovered alcoholic who was addicted to that in specific, I just want nothing to do with it. Did you ever try cigarettes? No. I have absolutely never understood the appeal, but with a very addictive personality and wild anxiety, I never wanted to risk it, anyway. How did you spend your summers growing up? LOADS of swimming in the pool, jumping on the trampoline, and just playing outside in general. If you could change anything from your teenage years, would you? I'd absolutely change how I found happiness only in Jason. Do you remember your first time? No, because at that time, I didn't really realize it was sex. I know that sounds weird, like "how would you not know?", but just trust me. I don't feel like retrospecting on it. I do remember our first *kiss*-kiss, though. How much did you make per hour at your first job? I don't recall. Favorite home-cooked meal growing up? I looooved spaghetti. Favorite place to eat out growing up? McDonald's, duh, lol. Did your parents live in a different country before you were born? No. They were from different states, though. Do you have a preferred coffee brand? Don't like coffee. Have you ever dated someone who was terrible with money? No. How often do you paint your nails? Never. Do you know anyone who's related to a current or former world leader? Not that I know of. Do you do your own taxes, or do you hire a professional? I don't pay taxes because I'm unemployed. What is something you don't have any natural talent for? Speaking. At all. What is something you frequently forget? "Numbers." <<<< BIG fat same. How do you feel about your body? How much I hate it is on my mind literally every waking moment of my life to some degree. Who is someone you would like to get to know better? So I have this Facebook friend Courtlynn who seems very similar to me, and I'd love to get to know her better. We interact via posts here and there, but have never seriously talked. What's your opinion on assisted suicide? I am very much for it when a person is in serious pain and recovery is not possible. Like one of my greatest nightmares is being paralyzed from the neck down, and I stg I would spite whichever fucker had jurisdiction over me living. That would be absolute torture for me. At what point do you consider a relationship to be "long-term?" A year, so long as you were consistently together. Stable. What jobs did your parents have when you were growing up? My dad's been a mailman my entire life, and he had a second job at Lowe's for a while as a carpenter. He hated it. Mom worked with computer data at the hospital when I was very young, and then she was an assitant and special needs teacher for a long time. Do they still have these jobs? Or different jobs? Or have they retired? ^ about Dad. It's his only job now. Mom is currently on disability. Do you have a cell contract plan, or are you on a pre-paid plan? Would you believe me if I said I'm unsure? Haha. I use a Tracfone, and my mom takes care of whatever plan comes with that, so idk. Would your parents be okay with you dating someone of another race? Mom, absolutely. I'm unsure about Dad. I mean he wouldn't *seriously* care so long as they were good to me, but I think he might still be kinda racist. Or he just jokes about it a lot (which should not be joked about, btw). Do you like when friends stop by unexpectedly? "No way lol. I’m very much of a loner and want to be “prepared” to spend time with people." <<<< Absolutely this. How strong are your feelings for the last person you kissed? I love her very, very much. What was the last thing someone else bought for you? Food, I'm sure. Are you attracted to the last person you exchanged numbers with? I haven't seen a picture of her in years, so I have no idea. I remember she was beautiful, though. Is music a daily part of your life? Not daily, no. Some days I only watch YT videos instead of listen to music. What do you think of country music? Not a fan at all. It's ironic considering it was my favorite genre as a little kid. There's the occasional country song I like (mostly ones from my childhood, though), but those are few and far between. Tim McGraw, now, I love. Did you go to your high school’s graduation? Yeah, even though I didn't want to. I didn't care enough about the actual ceremony. Who was the last person to message you on Facebook? What would you do if that person told you they have feelings for you? That would be the woman I took family pictures for. She's married and we barely know each other, so I can assure you she doesn't. When you apply your make-up, do you do it in a specific order? On the very rare occasion I wore makeup, yes. Eyeliner, usually eyeshadow, mascara, and most rarely, black lipstick. Does it matter to you if your significant other smokes? Yes. Who was the last person you had a deep conversation with? Mom, I think. Do you like where you are in life right now? HA. Is your mom overbearing? No.

Hello everyone! i don't really make my own posts on here that much but i am on here a lot. BUT I can't really do the things I love to do anymore, like dance or swim, since I have broken my ankle and damaged some ligaments in my right foot and will be getting surgery next week. SO, I've recently been working on my makeup skills, specifically on the artistic side. I don't have a lot to work with nor the money to spend to get the things i need. I am very grateful for what I have, even if its 4 old eyeshadow pallettes, 3 brushes, 2 lipsticks, 1 beauty blender, of course foundation and concealer, and a few misc. things in makeup. I really enjoy doing the artsy side of makeup, tho I'm not that good at it. I've just start doing this week, but some of the work I've done im proud of and decided to post on here. why? I don't know. and for whoever is taking time out of their day to read this thank you and I hope you like the looks ive made!
and tips are very welcomed and cheap/affordable products that work well! :))♡ -Quinlyn
EDIT: btw, idk if i will continue to post my progress on here but you are very welcome to go follow my Instagram: @/quinnieclue
Tumblr media
1st one: sorry for my messy room, but this look was inspired by Rosé from BlackPink, with the HYLT photos. simple but that's what I did first. this was a few days before I broke my ankle.
Tumblr media
2nd one: this was the first look that I just went all out and after I broke my ankle. im really proud of this because I did this not knowing what to do and just slapped something on my face. I called it the garden fairy look. im not the best at drawing so my rose looks bad. lol.
Tumblr media
3rd one: I dont know what this is and made this late at night because I didn't want to sleep, but I made this look as a late LGBTQ+ look, specifically the the B. I have a few pics where I have a wig on but with the lips reminded me of an animal. lol. 🤣
Tumblr media
4th one: this is the strawberry hero look(?) I made. again not good at drawing but did my best. I can't draw a straight line to save my life. but I had funny doing this one.

last one: again simple one, but this is inspired by Hongjoong from ATEEZ, Wonderland era. again i did this one at night, but my friend gave me the suggestion and I worked with what I got.
but yeah this is what I've done so far. I also have a few others already planned. I have a dragon look i want to try and for kpop inspired look, hopefully a bit more artistic, BTS.

Making of Intergrated Practice
First briefing, hearing about working with a client, abstraction, two part module, 24 hour challenge test,
I was initially confused by the difference between this module and Creative Collaboration, however after the second briefing, it was made more clear. The themes for this project are flight and nature. I’m in a group with Brandon, Will, Oli, and Sophie. We were in the same group for the 24 hour challenge so it gave us a good idea of how our group would work for this project. We had a few ups and downs but we can out of it knowing that we aril wanted to work in a group.
youtube
Our first lecture was on COVID safety. We had to fill out an online quiz and read through important information about keeping safe during the pandemic. A lot of it was common sense and logic but I did learn some things about office work and not being allowed to interact with people from other departments, or in the universities case, courses. I got 100% correct which was nice and was awarded a certificate, which Annabeth said we could put on our LinkedIn pages.
Tumblr media
We next had our lecture on the skills audit and the SWOT information. I was a little confused at first but I soon got the hang of it.
Strengths - a big passion of mine is character design. Usually everything I draw has some sort of backstory, and if not the usually while I’m drawing it I will be thinking one up. I’ve been trying through my art journey to adapt my style to incorporate shape language and dynamic poseing into my characters, as well as diversity, because I think it helps make characters more interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve also recently got into modeling basic shapes and character in Blender, and I’m really enjoying it. I wouldn’t say it’s something that I’m amazing at but I’m enjoying it so far.
Tumblr media
I’ve had a few opportunities to work on my time management with animation commissions and a comic contest I entered recently. It’s helped me realise how long everything takes and that things always get in the way. I’ve learnt to leave a few days before the deadline free in case my work runs over. Despite this I usually end up working to within a few hours of the deadline. It’s something that I’m improving upon though.
Weaknesses - I’m not very good at 3d animation. My brain doesn’t work well with technical and mathematic software. Maya was a big struggle for me in the beginning and I don’t think 3d animation will be something I’d want to pursue.
I’m also quite easily distracted and sometimes spread myself too tithing between university work and personal projects. This results in me having to make sacrifices or ending up working on something last minute.
I’m not very confident when speaking in front of a crowd. I’ve noticed a difference between having to talk in front of a group who are standing around and close to you, as apposed to talking to a group sat down and you are far away at the front. The latter, to me is far more scary, even tho the number of people could be the same.
Opportunities - character designing is a pretty common skill, but with my a levels in English literature and Psychology, I have an easier time writing belivable and flawed characters.

LOGBOOK ENTRY#1 PALAWAN
7-5-18
5:35AM — We are on our bus to Clark International Airport and we almost left Gina behind because she was late. I mean what’s good Gina? There’s nothing new here hahaha! Things are getting pretty exciting, minus what happened with those three taxis with Ryan. We also got a discount from the Genesis Bus for being PAL customers! It’s surely is an adventure for us. This is the first time I saw the sun rise while I am inside a bus, this is amazing. Pale skies turned into blue eyes and the sun brought back the colors.
8:30AM — Early birds! We took over a bench and made it our own beds at the airport. We’re still waiting for Ferds because he’s got our hotdogs.
9:55AM — My heart is pounding like crazy at this moment. Besides my ID problem, Clark International Airport just had their last call for team Gina and I still have the nerve to type this down! I’m really nervous and anxious as fuck because we might miss our Palawan trip. Worse, I might not even join them because of my ticket problem.
10:03AM — We literally bolted through the security gates like crazy heads running for our lives! The marshals are pressuring us even more and we were throwing our things through the scanner. It was so funny what the fuck hahahaha! Once done, we ran to our vehicle to our plane. We looked like casts from the Amazing Race Philippines and did the walk of shame for being late to our seats.
10:20AM — Finally on our plane and the adrenaline rush was still pulsing through my body. I got more anxious as the plane got faster, this was the first time for me being concious to ride a plane. Lucky enough to be seated beside my best friend, whose left arm was crushed by yours truly. Sorry Dust haha!
10:40AM — At 44,000 feet, my long life dream to be with the clouds finally came true and I got the whole zoo on my stomach!
11:20AM — We were picked up by a driver who seems to be part of the Need for Speed cast for his driving skills. Busuanga, Palawan already looks fine as hell with these views and the cold weather! Nothing will top Palawan’s greetings with its rainfall. Manila rain can choke. Everything’s going North so far!
12:30PM — Finally arrived at Ryan’s home and the vibe is nothing but warm and welcoming. Food is great. Like reaaaaaally fucking great. View is amazing and the people are so nice. His mom prepared a house for us to stay in. Yes dude, a fucking house. We all took our naps and recharged our energy for another adventure!
10:16PM — Ryan’s mom cooked us the best first dinner at Palawan! All fish and veggies. Lerma is already shaking. We also did some short grocery at the bayan where we met some locals, aunties and friends of Ryan. It’s a small town and people know each other. They are so nice, they always tell us to enjoy our stay in Busuanga. We spent the night drinking mixed alcohol from a blender and playing cards. Okay well they played cards, I don’t know how to play. Someone also cried and poured his/her heart out but I will never tell who it is. It was the best way end our first night, I think this trip will be nothing but memorable and definitely one for the books. The logbook lmao.
7-6-18
8:07AM — We are on a boat to Calauit Safari to meet some MOTHER FUCKING GIRAFFES. My heart is too excited, I’ve always wanted a pet giraffe since I was little but my mom said giraffes are not domestic animals. Yeah, sure mom. My first island boat experience was a cleansing experience. I don’t know why I used the term cleansing. It’s not like I dipped my face in the water or anything, It just felt like the wind is washing something from my past.
8:50AM — I’VE PET AND FED THE GIRAFFES. My heart was so overwhelmed I was smiling from ear to ear. Two giraffes ate at my hand on the same time. Their tongues are kinda rough, long and it has the color of an aged eggplant. Another life-long dream came true, I love Palawan already!
10:21AM — We left Calauit Safari and we are now on our way to a beach to have our lunch. At the safari, we also saw some zebras, monkeys, snakes, turtles, crocodiles and even a porcupine. Our tour guide gave us a porcupine spike as a remembrance for our trip. I kept it behind my phone for luck lol
12:53PM — We had our lunch at a restaurant by the beach called Palatpat. Our food was made by Ryan’s family friend, we ate and dipped our feet at the beach. The view is amazing. It was so funny because from a distance you can see a storm approaching and we did not mind it at first. After a few minutes we took lots of pictures before a heavy storm locked us in our cottages. We were cold and stranded so we just watched our videos from the safari. And also, we discovered that Gina called the giraffes kangaroos hahahaha!
7-7-18
10:29AM — This view of the ocean is really breathtaking. It was drizzling a little bit and the raging waves said hello as we arrived on the dock. We were supposed to go to the famous Black Island, but sadly the current is too strong. I honestly thought it was passable, but tita said our boat might flip and I honestly don’t mind that lmao
11:40AM — We went to the Concepcion Falls instead where I ate a lot of crabs and did not get sick. I fucking love it here. Palawan got me eating crabs! We also met Merissa, who’s a 22-year-old backpacker from California doing her research. She joined us in our stay at the falls.
1:15PM — We took a refreshing swim. The water was cold but it was definitely rewarding. I felt as if the falls was cleansing me from something I was hoping to be free from. But I honestly don’t know what it is but I feel great. Oh and my friends are simply the best, they make this trip extra ordinary.
10:53PM — Sleeping beside your best friend is all fun until he becomes this big scared dweeb. Dustin was so afraid of our ghost stories he squeezes himself beside me and grabs my blanket. He’s not really brave when it comes to this stuff haha! So of course we made fun of him and took advantage. A weakness has been revealed!
7-8-18
5:30AM — Shit! Shit! Shit it’s 5:30AM and I’m already running from Ryan’s house to the church here in Busuanga. I cannot be late for church so I ran like I’m running for the marathon of my life! It was so far and I had no choice but to bolt.
7:37AM — Ferds and Ryan waited outside the church for me. I was surprised to see them there. We went to buy pandesal for breakfast, went to a basketball court and back to the dock. At the dock I saw a sleeping dog under the sun that reminded me of how my Bella loves to do that back home.
12:43PM — We are on a speed boat to an island for lunch, it’s a place called Alfaro. Seriously, I’m still shocked at the fact that you need to go to an island just for lunch hahahaha! Man I hope I live here. Alfaro is at the top of this small mountain and it has a pool that completes the relaxing-island vibe. I ordered squid for lunch of course and it was delicious as eff.
2:46PM — We then took a dip in the pool and enjoyed the every moment Alfaro has to offer. The view at the top takes you to a new level of comfort and peace. I looked far away and I saw a nice place that looked like a private mansion on an island. We all stared at it and dreamed to have our own island one day hahaha! Wish we can go there but I doubt it. They played a game in the pool where the three boys cheated hahaha! We then washed ourselves together in a bathroom and I’ve exchanged sandos with Dustin on our way home.
11:30PM — We drank alcohol again and this time I wanted to get sleepy drunk so that I could feel well rested by the morning. Is that weird? Anyways, we drank and played a corny version of never have I ever and Ferds was so funny with his shit. I then realized that I woke up today at 5:30 in the morning and was so tired from our activities. I then decided to sleep early and ditch my friends who are still chatting.
7-9-18
8:10AM — I woke up with a little hang over (lol at my plan to be well rested) so I decided to do some exercise and stretch out a little bit outside our home.
9:10AM — Today we are about to go hiking to the viewdeck of Busuanga and I’m sure as scared and excited for this activity. Another first for me!
10:16AM — After climbing, stepping on slippery rocks, holding on trees and a couple of mosquito bites, we finally reached the top before the rainfall. The view was covered by the rain and a thick fog, 0% visibility at its finest! We were drenched and frozen from the rain so we huddled in one corner at the viewdeck and waited for the storm to calm.
10:36AM — The rain stopped and the fog cleared, the view of Busuanga was uncovered right in-front of our eyes. It was so fulfilling to climb and witness this view! We took lots of pictures and videos. It was pure and genuine joy for me. I absorbed every moment at the top, just self-reflecting what I have done for the past years and pondering what I wanted to be free from. I whispered, “Come what may.” before leaving the place.
11:20AM — We are now going down from the viewdeck and I think it is much more difficult to go down than to go up. The way was slippery because of the rain and it became more steep. Dustin and Ryan both fell on their asses as we go down and I managed to go down with zero falls. A King, I know. Do we stan? Yes we do. lol hahahaha jk.
1:50PM — After preparing and having our lunch at Ryan’s house, we went to our home and took a shower. We also took our power nap before doing our laundry and preparing for our fishing activity.
2:22PM — So this is what it feels like to take naps with your best friends during the afternoon. I felt like a kid who took a mandatory nap with his best friends, getting energized for another adventure. Dustin can sure get extra sleepy and baby-ish at the same time tho, I’ll give you that. Ryan went missing.
6:05PM — We were peacefuly doing our laundry while waiting for Ryan’s arrival at his house. We planned to go fishing after our hike earlier, but it’s getting late and Ryan cannot be reached. Out of suprise, tita arrived with a van waiting outside. Suddenly everyone was in a rush, it turns out we were going to Busuanga Bay Lounge and Ryan did not inform us! WHO’S SHOOK? BITCH WE ALL ARE. WHERE’S RYAN? WHERE ARE WE GOING? WHAT ARE WE BRINGING? THIS IS NOT IN THE PLAN, WE WERE SUPPOSED TO GO FISHING HAHAHAHA
6:30PM — After panicking, running and preparing around the house, it started to rain and we are now on the van tracking Ryan’s whereabouts in the town. Finally the signal returned and we were able to contact him. We found him in a kubo with two of his friends eating lomi. It turns out Ryan was not informed too and the signal was to blame for no messages can come through. I forgot to mention that there was literally no signal in the island, you are lucky if you encounter a place with a good reception.
7:11PM — Busuanga Bay Lounge - okay so this place is hella expensive. Like waaaaay expensive. I was not prepared for this restaurant by the dock or in other words, I AM SHOOK. We’ve seen this place from the Alfaro view the other day, this was the mansion we were admiring from a far! It’s funny how we were just wishing to go here the other day and now we are actually here. Breathing! Me and my friends were exchanging looks and laughing because of the menu and its price range. We were laughing because we are not used to fine dining, for Pete’s sake we eat at Hepa Lane you guys. That’s our thing, our brand lmao
8:01PM — I had this deep talk with Dustin out of nowhere after dinner. We talked about our separate plans after college, our time together and some more stuff we don’t usually talk about. I like it when I have deep conversations with people, specially this douchebag, because it’s rare. I was not able to say some of the things that I want tho, but I hope he knows how much he means to me as brother, all of them. Food was amazing by the way. It was worth the price if you were wondering
7-10-18
1:35PM — We made fishing rods out of plastic bottles, nylon strings and hooks for our activity this afternoon. We are finally fishing! We went to the dock and I picked up a rod on the way. They said someone owns it so I was worried I will be in trouble for taking it, but I took it anyway to the dock with me. Pasaway.
2:16PM — We were on the same dock where we were supposed to depart for Black Island. I recognized the place because of the mini tower at the sea near the dock. The only thing different this time is that the sea level is low and I think the tower on the sea can be reached.
2:31PM — Dustin caught a fish! He got so excited after his first catch. A master of the sea? Does this have something to do about Dust being from Navotas? The Fishing Captial of the Philippines. I don’t know hahaha but he caught a real fish alright! He even got the gang more excited and energized! I did not hold back, I wanted to catch one too!
3:00PM — It started to rain really hard and the rain drops were hitting our skin like pebbles. The wind and the waves grew strong but our energy grew stronger, we did not leave the dock. We continued fishing and I have felt so alive in that moment. It was surreal! Fishing during the storm by the dock made me feel no fear, I was unstoppable.
3:15PM — I have no photos of this moment but we went to the mini tower I was talking about and went back to fishing again. It was still raining hard and the dock was slippery because of the moss, it was an exciting adventure for everyone! We’ve felt so happy we don’t mind getting injured lmao!
3:45PM — After the rain, we went back to the higher ground of the dock and walked back home. I returned the rod I have borrowed earlier to the same place. Dustin was carrying his catch and the others were all tired and happy from our fishing adventure.
5:00PM — We cleaned and piled ourselves on the couch and watched Master Chef at Ryan’s house. Tita arrived from work with these delicious pizzas and pastas from her friend. I was skeptic at first on the taste but Palawan keeps on delivering surprises! The pizzas and the pastas were amazing! The flavors are on point. Others should take notes! We rewarded ourselves for fishing today by eating a lot. Like a lot!
7:30PM — We were still full from our merienda but we have no choice but to eat dinner because tita cooked crabs! I fucking love it here. Happiness never ends, and when I say happiness I mean food! We then realized that it was our last dinner together in Busuanga for our trip at Ryan’s house and it was kinda sad to think about. We ate our feelings that night, we were introduced to the famous Coconut Cake. Let me just get real with everyone here. You have to eat this cake before you die. It’s so good I’m not even exaggerating anything here! I wish I could take this cake home and give my family a slice. They’re missing this back at home!
8:40PM — Still full but it did not end there. Tita and Ferds opened these freshly picked coconuts and we drank and ate it all. It was delicious, it made Gina and Dustin go number 2 hahahaha! Tita is just the sweetest and most genuine, she wants us to rest early for our early trip to Coron tomorrow. That’s when it hit us that it was our last night in Busuanga with tita.
7-11-18
7:05AM — Tita rented a van for us to ride to Coron. I was seated beside Dustin and I immediately fell asleep because we were up so early. We left Busuanga with my eyes open at 25%.
7:30AM — We arrived at our new place and we prepared for our tour. We were not yet allowed to check in so I changed my outfit at the lobby. After changing my shorts, I saw the cctv camera pointing exactly at me and I screamed and we all laughed hahahaha! That was so stupid but I have no regrets hahaha! To Jasmine’s Place of Coron, please don’t leak me online. No one wants to see me that looool
7:55AM — We chose to have breakfast in a mini carinderia where they serve surprisingly delicious and tasty breakfast. For P85.00 I got one longanisa, one egg, one hotdog with rice and a cup of coffee. That was my first breakfast in Coron.
9:05AM — We arrived at the dock where we boarded a boat for our island hopping tour. Our tour guides are locals who are very good at their job and are very kind. When the captain asked for a volunteer for a picture, I immediately raised my hand and took the chance. He was good at taking pictures, even better than some of my friends hahaha!
9:43AM — Our first destination was the Green Lagoon. It was definitely a beautiful moment. The rock formation is really unbelievable and this view just takes you out of the zone. We took lots of pictures on the boat and we dipped in the lagoon and experienced the refreshing salt water. We got that vitamin sea game now haha!
10:19AM — We are off to our next destination and Dustin placed his leg above mine like he always does. He does this when he is too comfortable with the people he is with. I’m gonna miss this little things about this goof.
11:07AM — We arrived at the famous CYC Beach and we were told to be careful as there are sighting of sea urchins and jelly fish. When I got off the boat, I jumped to the water and swam the fuck away in fear of steppin on a sea urchin. Ain’t nobody got time to go to a hospital today, that’s not happening haha!
11:19AM — We were playing with the sand and I said, “Guys gusto ko na malibing.” My friends were like, “Same.” hahahaha! They all dug a whole beach grave for me. How supportive.
11:22AM — While they were busy digging, me and Ryan saw some beach dogs nearby and we immediatley petted them. I never imagined that one day I’ll be at a beach with some dogs.
11:30AM — My friends are assholes! They left me burried as our captain called everyone back to the boat haha! I had to rise up from the dead alone and run on water naruto style to the boat.
11:55AM — Our captain and his team cooked a lot of dishes for us. They cooked fish, liempo, some sea weeds, steamed veggies, oysters, salted eggs with tomatoes and more! Surprisingly, everything taste so gooood! Like restaurant-quality good!! And the most impressing part is that they cooked everything in our boat while sailing. THIS IS THE LIFE, MAN!
12:20PM — I think I’m pregnant after eating a lot for lunch. Patay-gutom jael was satisfied, guys. We are sailing to Kayangan Lake and they said it’s far away from where we are so we’re sailing for some amount of time. The weather turned cloudy and the vibe is just peaceful and surreal. I closed my eyes and listened to the waves splashing our boat before falling asleep.
1:03PM — I know I have been talking about all of the sights and sceneries here in Palawan, but the one above Kayangan Lake is THE VIEW OF THE TRIP. It made me realize that I have been living and doing a lot of firsts again in the past few days. I know that the past 4 years of my life has been a roller coaster, this trip is like a big pat in my back saying “hey, you do you. you did great and you deserve the world.”
1:40PM — We had the entire lake for ourselves. The water is so clear and fresh it is as if the Pokémon, Celebi, lives here. We have to wear our life vests all the time because the lake was very deep. We swam further and floated, just staring at the sky and thinking. I know I sound like someone from a book, but don’t you crave for that experience? just floating, flowing and allowing everything as you pause from the world. It felt like that.
2:05PM — The lake was covered with fog as it started to rain. Kayangan Lake started to look like a place from the Jurrasic World, I was really hoping for a big monster to come out of that big stone formation in front of us and roar really loud. I think I’m imagining too much but I have always been this way and I think a lot of people should too.
2:55PM — We are now on the middle of the sea again. We were looking through the corals below us and I can see from a far that a heavy rain was headed towards us. Everything was slowly fading as it goes inside the fog and the rain. I was outside our boat when it reached us and that rain felt gooooood for some reason. I went inside and we sailed through the cold rain back to the dock.
3:45PM — We thank our captain and his team for doing such a great job. I wish I could do what they are doing someday. Meeting and exploring with new people everyday is something I’ve always wanted to do. At the dock, we bought refrigirator magnets as pasalubongs. And yeah we cheap like that.
4:05PM — So me and my friends decided to go to this famous hot spring in Coron to cleanse us from the sea water right after we landed at the dock. We went back to our hotel to get some money and we did not even change our clothes, we were too excited.
4:24PM —

friday: renewed my food handler’s license! then dim sum at hkl1 (never been there!!! it’s the same as hkl2. wouldn’t go back cuz why would i pay literally 2x as clement st bbq. they don’t even have carts. they did have a chandelier tho. #chinesePeopleChandelierz. also i noted that in the back they have dat dinner area with the fortune thing in red and a red curtain and whatnot hehehehe) then work which was fun j was there and we are friends now i noted that j is a competent dishwasher (unlike me, a very incompetent dishwasher) cuz he was idle most of the time (which means he cleared everything). meanwhile, i was struggling with my orders like an idiot because idk struggles are my life and i really enjoy struggling actually anyway i made it work and i mostly did it solo? had some help, but less!
saturday: oh saturday hasn’t happened yet but i just got home from work and the roomies were watching bridget jones’s baby and i got sucked into it and im just like, why would anyone live like bridget jones. who would want to live like that. i am embarrassed by the character of bridget jones. i do not relate. i do not want to relate. now im baking snickerdoodles to share with coworkers cuz i like my coworkers FOR ONCE holy SHIT for once in my goddamn life
saturday continued: biked to sfbg cuz field trip went there. the most boring 3 hours of my life in my favorite place. jesus christ. i wasn’t kidding in 5th grade when i filled out my “about me” and said “i get bored easily” well put, tiny self. well put. biked back to ccsf for the rest of class. i guess malcolm saw me cuz he told me i was “an animal” on bike. literally falling asleep in the last bit of class, but then woke up to plant seeds with malcolm (got my own flat!!! suck it, classmates), and left school at 2:35 thinking i’d be late for work, so i gunned it back to ggp and GUESSWHAT I WAS NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT LATE haaaaaaa because i am moderately fast on bike (also i took the easy bike today) work was good; everyone loved these snickerdoodles. mostly zoned out cuz tired. also j and i are friends now and it’s weird because i don’t know how to make new friends? do i ask them questions. all of my questions sound extremely abrupt and interrogative
anyway now i’m home and im so tired and it’s 1am somehow
uh
i needa brush my teeth and pass the fk out
sunday: homework, ggp cuz it was such a nice day (people watching + reading textbook), music reexploration (i worked a lot harder for my music when i was younger), dinner, gotttttta finish homework
