What I loved the most about The artful Dodger were the truthfully dickensian scenes. Like, it wouldn't be a Dickens novel if all the characters, good and bad but especially the bad ones, weren't actually interconnected and teaming up to plot master plans that would feel cliché in modern media

Orphan Black: Echoes showrunner Anna Fishko on bringing back Tatiana Maslany:

Fishko reveals that Maslany was approached about returning, but because of scheduling conflicts she was unable to do so. But the showrunner says: "We tried and we thought about it, we had a little episode for her to return that we were sort of holding onto for a while, but in the end it just didn't work out, which was too bad." When asked if she'd like to see Maslany return as one of her Orphan Black characters in future, Fishko adamantly says: "I'd love to see her come back." The challenge now, then, will be on viewers to make that come to be.

Dear fanfic commenters,

I adore every kudos and emoji. Every keysmash and copy-paste quote. Every question you ask, whether clarifying or rhetorical. When I check my emails in the morning and see that one of my stories has a comment it brings me joy for the whole day.

One thing I’d like to ask of you:

Stop assuming I’m dead.

I know I haven’t updated that one cliffhanger in a year, but seeing a comment say “it’s a tragedy we won’t get to read the last chapter” is not the vibe. We’ve all seen those crazy authors notes where they explain how insane their life has been or that they just got out of a coma or were kidnapped by a parent or had their own baby and we know writers block exists too.

My case? I’m just happy now. I got medicated and I’m actually living well. Taking care of myself, doing daily chores and eating regularly, getting sunshine and smiling and spending time with friends.

Do I wish I was still spending as much time writing as I did while anxious, depressed, and hyperfocussed to the point of self-neglect? Yeah. I still have every single one of my incomplete stories in my brain vying for attention. I haven’t stopped thinking about them. I wish I could write them all in technicolor detail. These stories bring me joy to create and share and fandom is a beautiful community.

But the time and focus required for writing is being used in other ways right now, and the trade off is worth it to me.

I’ve seen lots of people who got diagnosed and medicated late in life grieve over their lost creative spark. But my experience isn’t of losing that light - it’s realizing I had built a bonfire of my passions to keep me safe and warm and stable in a scary dark world, and getting medicated is learning I can have hundreds of little sparks in many places to expand the light in my life and the areas I can go and explore and succeed in, rather than one focal point.

I know I’m not writing as much as either of us would like. I’m sorry about that, and I still add a paragraph here and there in my notes when I can. It’ll add up to a full chapter I can post eventually but it’s going to take longer, so please be patient. Maybe even be happy for me.

Because I’m not dead.

Just the opposite.

In modern times it's now a day where we watch fireworks, take blurry photos in the dark, eat hot dogs (or in this years scenario - fish and chips or jacket potato and beans) and throw a fake "Guy" on a giant bonfire but the reason for all this is The Gunpowder Plot!

"Led by conspirators like Robert Catesby, who were zealous Roman Catholics enraged at King James I for refusing to grant greater religious tolerance to Catholics. They planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament (Palace of Westminster) during the state opening of Parliament, intending to kill the king and members of Parliament in order to clear the way to reestablishing Catholic rule in England. The plan failed when the conspirators were betrayed. One of them, Guy Fawkes, was taken into custody the evening before the attack, in the cellar where the explosives to be used were stashed. The other conspirators were all either killed resisting capture or—like Fawkes—tried, convicted, and executed. In the aftermath, Parliament declared November 5 a national day of thanksgiving, and the first celebration of it took place in 1606.

Today Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated in the United Kingdom, and in a number of countries that were formerly part of the British Empire, with parades, fireworks, bonfires, and food. Straw effigies of Fawkes are tossed on the bonfire, as are—in more recent years in some places—those of contemporary political figures. Traditionally, children carried these effigies, called “Guys,” through the streets in the days leading up to Guy Fawkes Day and asked passersby for “a penny for the guy,” often reciting rhymes associated with the occasion, the best known of which dates from the 18th century.

Thinking about how Vox Machina feels about different seasons and types of weather;

Percy grew up in Whitestone where it's always cold, but it can always get much colder.

He definitely prefers summer, when it's warmer and it's less likely to snow - it had been snowing when the Briarwoods betrayed his family after all.

He also hates the rain, the sound of it anyway, and he much prefers a warm sunny day to a cool spring or autumn one - but his favourite day of the year is in autumn; Vex (and Vax's) birthday is in Sydenstar.

Keyleth, as a druid, is expected to love all weather and seasons, but in truth? she hates winter, she hates snow and she hates ice unless she's directly making it and shooting it at enemies.

She prefers the summer when it's warm and sunny with nary a cloud in the sky, or in early autumn where it's still warm but everything is red and brown and it rains so much.

She loves the smell of petrichor and loves dancing in the warm rain with her partner - it's just so freeing and silly and fun.

Scanlan has a bone deep hate towards summer in Tal'dorei, its too humid and too heavy in comparison to summer back home in Marquet - the heat there was dryer and less suffocating in his opinion.

He loves the winter here, though, and is fascinated with snow even after experiencing it for so many long years now.

He also loves the mistletoe tradition surrounding the very cute Tal'dorein holiday called Winter's Crest - if people call him a menace, so fucking be it.

Pike loves all of the seasons, but she hates rain and snow.

She prefers when it's warm and dry, a cool breeze on the air, and loves to go on picnics with her loved ones outdoors during the late spring to early autumn.

She grows tired in the winter, however, and can become sad all too easily throughout it.

Vex prefers the spring, when all of the flowers bloom and the baby animals tend to be born.

She loves making daisy chains with her brother, she loves cloud gazing with Trinket and she unironically loves to frollick in the wheat fields outside of Whitestone like she did in the fields outside of Byroden as a young and innocent little kid.

She hates winter, though, the month of loss and grief darkens her heart, it leaves her feeling so cold and lonely. So sad.

Grog is indifferent to basically everything weather or season related, but he loves jumping in big piles of fallen leaves and he loves drinking nutmeg and he loves watching the baby animals learn to walk and he loves their beach vacations.

He gets a bit overprotective of his loved ones in the winter, sees some of them get really sad and tired all of a sudden but doesn't understand why.

But Grog personally loves snow and enjoys Winter's Crest a good bit, so he doesn't mind shouldering the weight of his friends' seasonal depression.

Vax is an autumnal boy, with winter being a close second favourite of his, followed by spring - summer isn't even in the running, it's just too warm and sunny for the rogue's liking.

He loves participating in all of the different seasonal holidays - Harvestfest, Winter's Crest, Blessed Tenday, Lover's Day, The Artisan's Faire etc. - and he loves getting everyone gifts.

However, he too suffers from seasonal depression like Vex and Pike do - his is more just an extension of his pre-existing depression, but it still happens to him all the same in the end.

No Tricks, Only Treats, Baby! (An Elvis and Jane Writing Prompt Game Halloween One Shot)

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! This is my absolute favorite time of year, I live for spooky season so I suggested a Halloween/autumn theme for our little group (@thatbanditqueen, @ellie-24, @whositmcwhatsit, @vintageshanny, @from-memphis-with-love, @be-my-ally, @missmaywemeetagain) to do for the writing prompt game. I do apologize that mine is soooo late but this week was crazy busy and I didn't have as much time to write as I would have liked. But that's ok because posting mine on Friday the 13th seems appropriate for me because well, this is me and this is my time of year. It's always Halloween in my soul. 🎃

So, that said, here is my little contribution for Elvis-O-Ween. This is pure fluff and smut and I had entirely too much fun writing it. I hope it ends up being worth the wait for you guys. As with my previous one shot with these two, nothing relevant to the plot of the main story except for the explanation behind Elvis's nickname for my OC Jane. Other than that this can stand alone. And I do promise the next chapter of the main story is coming soon, it got set on the back burner for a bit so I could have some Halloween fun with these 2 so I hope you'll forgive me. Been a while since I've covered something closer to a "meme medley", hasn't it? It's a bit of a conundrum really, the rips like Memey Hell, Rippin'! Mashin'! High Quality Grand Prix and A love letter to this wonderful community and my amazing friends are some of the most relistenable on the entire channel due to the sheer variety found within them, yet they're simultaneously very hard to write about for the purpose of this blog. I can approach these posts from a lot of different angles, be it the history of a ripper, history of a joke's presence on the channel, the unique sound of a game, a rip's relevance to the lore and goings-on of the channel at that time - all of which provide me with a lot to say, in contrast to simply saying that a rip is just a really good listen. But some of these meme medleys ARE just really good listens, ones that I recommend wholeheartedly of course, but ones that can be rather hard to turn into an interesting read. Still, Fezaki's enthusiasm for Man, why does every Bleck actor gotta rap some in the request form is one I absolutely share, so I'll try my best to do it justice in my coverage. After all, Half Pixel made my darling Everybody's Special Course as far back as Season 1 - he's almost bound to knock it out of the park no matter what!

Then again, I suppose it is wrong of me to present this rip as if it's just like those other meme medleys, it's pretty apparent right from the start that there's something quite special about it. I mean for one, there's the track its arranging: Super Paper Mario is a game that wears its weirdness on its sleeve in every aspect including its music, to where even though Champion of Destruction is actually still playing in 4/4ths time signature, it still sounds incredibly uneasy and chaotic - a lot like The Ultimate Show as heard over in The Ultimate Whip and Nae Nae. Yet with both tracks, through the noise and chaos, a strong melody prevails throughout, which is where Man, why does every Bleck actor gotta rap some makes its second distinction, in having the lead vocals of Childish Gambino's Bonfire be pitch-shifted to said melody. Bonfire is a classic in SiIva mashups, you can hear it as far back in Season 1 with the aforementioned Memey Hell, yet its rarely played with to the extent that it is in this rip. The song headlines the rip for about half of its playtime, with a few other rip sources complimenting it along the way: Space Jam's immediately identifiable drums, a quick Flintstones cue melodyswapped into the song's original backing instrumental, and so on, it's all incredibly seamless, yet all building up to the track's final ace up its sleeve. As the rip builds and builds, as Bonfire's vocals end and we're left with naught but the instrumental - you realize that The Ultimate Show has been playing about 20% slower than its supposed to.

Suddenly, things speed up: Chip tha Ripper's drums playing in the background start feeling louder, the vocals of Space Jam kick in for just a moment, bits of Gangnam Style and We Are Number One and MEGALOVANIA play one after another - It truly feels as if the rip begins spiraling, sort of like we saw back in my rip :) yet with far more buildup and cohesion present before things start to plummet. Yet there's a harmony to the back half's chaos althesame, much like the channel's other meme medleys - it IS an undisputed banger, just one that manages to hit far harder than it has any right to through an incredibly well done lead-in. I can't even call it a bait-and-switch, the transition between its two halves is so incredibly seamless and natural to where I cannot see the rip working nearly as well without the two parts together.

Being part of some of the first-ever rips we'd get to hear for Season 4 Episode 1, I have to wonder if the two-part structure of Man, why does every Bleck actor gotta rap some was a move Half Pixel made deliberately for the premiere. I mean, he's no stranger to making incredibly dense rips for the channel, even helping kick off the currently-ongoing Season 8 with Nucleear Pomeranian - but given that Season 4's stated goal was to surprise the audience far more than usual, it almost feels as if Man, why does every Bleck actor gotta rap some was Half Pixel's way to lean into that philosophy. Intentional or not, the end result is amazing, it's the kind of rip that just oozes above-and-beyond personality from every corner, and acts as confident reassurance that Half Pixel has STILL got it.
