MDZS: analyzing the Cloud Recesses Lectures Brawl, and Jin Zixuan's uncaring attitude towards Jiang Yanli
I know a lot of people tend to think JZX's insulting JYL, and the subsequent brawl during the Cloud Recesses Lectures arc, isn't really a very big deal, and I sorta get why? his insult seems pretty lukewarm, and boys will be boys, and so on… but honestly, if you start reading more Chinese novels, you'll pretty soon pick up that the brawl had a very good reason to happen.
I was talking with a good friend about it, and we ended up breaking it down. They suggested I might as well post about it.
let's start with Chinese Historical Customs: a married lady would have near total reliance on the backing and favor of her husband to have any power whatsoever within her household, or even be able to live comfortably -- without his backing and support, she'd be cut off from money, essential materials such as winter gear and heating fuel, even good food; the servants wouldn't bother listening to her (she'd have a few of her own brought from her first home, but not many); and being bullied (read: anything from humiliated to actually hurt) by her new family wouldn't be uncommon (and we all know what a pit of vipers the Jin Sect was even then).
doublespeak, face, and reputation, all meant that, intentionally or not, JZX was setting JYL up for a MISERABLE future life: by badmouthing her in public so everybody knows that her future husband thinks she's mediocre and unsatisfactory, he's saying he doesn't respect her (or her family! more on that in the next bullet point). if he doesn't respect her, he won't support her or help her if she needs him, because he doesn't care about her reputation, and therefore neither does he care about her comfort, or, well, about her... anything.
more Chinese Historical Customs, or, the Natal Family's Protection: a married lady's last backup defense is the fact that disrespecting her means disrespecting her family, who the husband has allied himself with by marrying her. the more they care about her, the more the natal family will respond to slights to her. they respond through retaliation -- by making the husband pay for disrespecting their daughter.
thus WWX's and JC's immediate answer of punching JZX for his remarks may have seemed disproportionate, but was actually not incorrect.
(They even gave JZX the chance to retract his words first!)
Stressors and Magnifiers: JZX isn't just being this dismissive in front of the two of them, which is already grounds for STRONG retaliation -- he's disrespecting their family's daughter right to their face!!! -- he's ALSO saying this to every single important peer they have, all of whom will go back home and tell that JZX, whose mother is dear friends with JYL's mother, and who visit each other all the time, and who thus must know her best... thinks she's so worthless, she can even be badmouthed in public. he's not only saying he will allow her to be disrespected by others, he's also drastically lowering her value to every other gentry prospect!!!
punching him was a brute and unrefined response, but it was a tradeoff: it traded away "face" for JYL's sake and protection. which she desperately needed right then. it sent the answer that disrespect towards JYL would be met by the strongest and most immediate retaliation the Jiang could possibly make;
and JFM agrees with the whole thing, because he finishes the move and breaks the engagement: "if you don't value her, then you don't get to have her".
(obligatory note that WWX was not expelled for his actions that day, and chose to return to Lotus Pier with JFM on his own... after finding out that LWJ had gone into seclusion and would no longer be around for him to tease.)
(obligatory note that it's extremely unlikely JZX was a malicious mastermind doing anything on purpose during this scene. we don't get a lot on him, but he was probably, honestly, just being a stupid teenager about a situation he was upset with. unfortunately, the above consequences still apply.)
(final note that neither JZX, nor, apparently, JYL, learned anything from this whole debacle. the Wartime Soup Incident is the exact same damn thing, except about ten times worse, and with much greater damage potential to her prospects and reputation.)

JC suspected something from the very beginning
Tumblr media
JC was always suspicious of WWXs feelings for LWJ from the start. A lot of people claim he didn't have a clue... But that's simply not the case.
First and foremost, MXTX has actually stated in interviews that JC was creeped out by the way WWX acted around LWJ from the start. He noticed WWX acted like a flirty girl who had a crush whenever he was around LWJ and it just didn't sit right with him. Here's a link to a translation of it if you want to check it out.
If you don't trust the interview just take a look at his reactions whenever he's around WWX acting like a lovesick puppy. When I first read the novel, as I have previously stated, I was not aware of it being a danmei. But I found JCs uneasiness around WWX when he was talking about or interacting with LWJ, very disturbing from the start.
He noticed from the very beginning that WWX acted differently with LWJ. That WWX treated him differently to how he treated others. Granted JC didn't put a label on it, probably due to his homophobia and the fact he deemed WWX useful as his future subordinate - but he noticed nevertheless. JC is many things, but he is not stupid. He knows how useful WWX will be as they get older, he knows how talented and smart WWX is. JC also knows how loyal and fiercely protective WWX is to those he cares about. WWX feels indebted to JCs family and the Sect that took him in - which JC also finds useful.
With all the above in mind, he was reluctant to fully confront his suspicions of WWXs sexuality. JC is literally showing signs of a homophobe who is in denial about the sexuality of someone who is close to them. He would rather not focus on exactly what makes him feel uncomfortable about WWX and LWJ being together. Instead JC tries to keep them apart and converts his discomfort into anger towards WWX and hatred towards LWJ. In his eyes LWJ is the reason why he feels this way. LWJ makes WWX act differently, which makes him feel uncomfortable - so he needs to make sure they stay apart.
Chapter 14
Wei WuXian, “He hates me already? I wanted to apologize to him.” Jiang Cheng sneered, “Apologizing now? Too late! Like his uncle, he surely thinks that you are evil and unruly to the core, and didn’t bother to pay you any attention.” Wei WuXian thought otherwise. He chuckled, “Who cares if he ignored me? Does he look pretty?” After a thought, he realized that Lan WangJi did look pretty. And so, he happily threw away his desire to twitch his lips.
JC has already noticed WWX gravitating towards LWJ and how he seems to desire his attention. Heck, he's probably noticed how WWX has already mentioned how good looking LWJ is a few times and they only arrived at the CR yesterday! Either way, JC notices how desperate WWX is for LWJ's attention, even though he ignores him. So, JC immediately starts to basically gaslight WWX in an attempt to keep him away from LWJ.
As we can see from the above, WWX refuses to believe that LWJ hates him, for now at least. WWX is already very much attracted to LWJ by this point, even though he doesn't quite understand his feelings. He can't keep his eyes off him, his thoughts away from him or indeed himself from gravitating towards him whenever he is near. It's all very cute! The sentence about him not caring if LWJ ignores him is all bravado for the boys. Because the reader is able to see that he does indeed think LWJ is pretty and doesn't smile at his little joke in the end.
Chapter 15
Jiang Cheng scolded with a darkened expression, “What are you proud of?! What is there to be proud of with this?! Do you think that it’s a glorious thing to be told by someone to get lost? You bring so much shame upon our sect!” Wei WuXian spoke, “I really wanted to apologize to him, but he never paid attention to me. He silenced me for so many days, so what’s wrong with me having a little fun with him? I presented him the book with a nice intention. HuaiSang-xiong, what happened to your treasured porn was really a pity. I didn’t even get to finish it; it was so good! Lan Zhan definitely doesn’t understand proper relationships. I gave it to him, yet he was still unhappy. It’s such a waste of that face of his.” Nie HuaiSang blurted, “It’s not a pity at all! You can have as many as you want.” Jiang Cheng sneered, “You’ve seriously offended both Lan WangJi and Lan QiRen. Just wait for your death tomorrow! Nobody’s gonna bury your corpse.” Wei WuXian waved his hands, putting his arm around Jiang Cheng’s shoulders, “Who cares, as long as I tease him first? You’ve already buried my corpse so many times, so what’s wrong with once more?” Jiang Cheng responded with a kick, “Shoo, shoo, shoo! Next time, if you do such a thing, don’t let me know! Don’t ask me to watch, either!”
WWX was ecstatic about finally getting LWJ's attention. If LWJ won't give him attention when he is being friendly, he'll just incessantly tease him until he gets something out of him instead. JC is not impressed by this at all. He just can't understand why WWX is so fixated with LWJ. He mentions being concerned about him bringing shame on the Sect.. but this is just him trying to justify his anger. JC doesn't seem to mind WWX or himself ignoring the rules later when they break curfew, drink and gamble. He only gets annoyed when LWJ is mentioned. JC goes on to say that he doesn't want to know or see when he is messing around with LWJ. This could be taken as an offhanded remark, but to me he just doesn't like to witness or hear about his 'strange' behaviour with LWJ.
Chapter 16
Wei WuXian’s paddle lightly glided through the water, and the boat’s speed quickened, so that he was right next to Lan WangJi’s boat. He spoke, “Lan Zhan, I didn’t splash water on you on purpose. Water ghouls are really clever. If I said it out loud, they would’ve heard it and got away. Hey, don’t ignore me. Why don’t you look at me, Second Young Master Lan?”Lan WangJi finally condescended and gave him a glance, “Why did you come?” Wei WuXian spoke with sincerity, “I’m here to apologize to you. Last night was my fault. I was wrong.” Lan WangJi’s countenance was slightly dark, most likely because he still didn’t forget how Wei WuXian “apologized” to him. Wei WuXian asked although he knew the answer, “Why do you look so gloomy? Don’t worry. Today, I’m really here to help.” Jiang Cheng couldn’t watch the scene any longer, “If you want to help, then stop chattering and come here!”
It's a bit strange for JC to not be able to watch the above scene any longer... It's only WWX apologising for his antics the night before and trying to explain why he splashed water at him not long ago. Why would this annoy JC so much he had to stop them from talking? Since he has already reprimanded WWX earlier for embarrassing their Sect by being unruly - wouldn't he be happy that WWX was trying to fix things and clear any animosity between the two Sects? Unless of course, it has nothing to do with WWX 'disgracing' the Sect, and everything to do with his sudden attachment to LWJ.
Chapter 17
Suddenly, Wei WuXian felt his collar tighten, and he was lifted into the air. He turned around to see Lan WangJi holding the back of his collar with one hand. Although Lan WangJi merely looked into another direction with an indifferent look, he and his sword carried the weight of three people, and fought with the mysterious force of the lake at the same time. Moreover, their position was still rising at a steady pace. Jiang Cheng was rather shocked, If I went down to pull Wei WuXian before him, using Sandu, I probably couldn’t have ascended so quickly and steadily. Lan WangJi is only around my age… At this point, Wei WuXian spoke, “Lan Zhan, your sword is quite strong, isn’t it? Thank you, thank you. But why did you pull my collar? Can’t you hold on to me? I don’t feel comfortable if you do this. Why don’t I stretch my hand to you and you can grab it?” Lan WangJi replied with a cold voice, “I do not have physical contact with others.” Wei WuXian, “We’re already this familiar with each other, so how am I ‘others’?” Lan WangJi, “We are not.” Wei WuXian pretended to be hurt, “You can’t do this…” Jiang Cheng really couldn’t hold it any more. He scolded, “You can’t do this!!! Can’t you speak a few sentences less while you’re held in mid-air by your collar?!”
It's quite a subtle scene, but WWX still can't help but flirt with LWJ even though he's dangling from his collar in mid air over a deadly waterborne abyss! WWX wanted LWJ to hold onto him instead and pouted when he wouldn't let him. It's quite sweet how much he wants LWJs attention so badly to be honest. JC isn't impressed with WWX acting this way with LWJ and couldn't hold his anger in any more, shouting at him to effectively shut up.
Chapter 18
Jiang Cheng was somewhat surprised, “Lan WangJi? Why did he come? He still dared to come see you?” Wei WuXian replied, “Yeah, I also thought that he should be praised for having the courage to come see me. He was probably told by his uncle to come check if I was kneeling properly.” Jiang Cheng instinctively felt a foreboding sensation, “Were you kneeling properly?” Wei WuXian, “I was kneeling properly. After he was some distance away, I found a stick and started to dig in the dirt. The pile beside your foot. There’s an ant hole there that I went through tons of trouble to find. When he turned his head, he saw that my shoulders were shaking, and he definitely thought that I was crying. He even came back to ask me. You really should have seen his expression as he saw the ant hole.” “...” Jiang Cheng spoke, “You should get lost and go back to Yunmeng as soon as possible! I don’t think that he wants to see you ever again.” And so, on that night, Wei WuXian packed up his things and returned to Yunmeng with Jiang FengMian.
This scene is really telling to the reader. Why would JC have a foreboding sensation... WWX is already in a whole lot of trouble, why would him not kneeling properly make any difference? It's because the foreboding feeling isn't about that. It's about the fact LWJ came to see WWX. Their developing relationships is what gives JC the uneasy feeling. WWX practically confirms LWJ was concerned about him when he tells JC that LWJ came back to check on him, because he thought he was crying. It's very sweet of LWJ and shows he does indeed care about WWX. So it's a bit strange for JC to react by reaffirming that LWJ hates him and urging him to leave. It's quite a statement considering LWJ was worried WWX was upset and only caught him playing around with a bloody ant hole! JC just can't wait to get WWX far away from LWJ - it's that simple.
A year later, when JC witnesses WWX pining after LWJ at the archery competition during the Qishan Discussion Conference. JC turns and walks away, because he can't stand watching the way WWX acts around him. And later still, JC gets angry at WWX once more.
Chapter 45
Lan WangJi turned around and walked alone toward the outside of the range. Jiang Cheng came over and asked, “What did you do, this time? Didn’t I tell you not to tease him? Your day just won’t be complete unless you dig your own grave at least once, huh?” Wei WuXian shrugged, “I said that his forehead ribbon was crooked. I was tricking him the first time but the second time was real. He didn’t believe me and got mad. I didn’t pull off his forehead ribbon on purpose. Why do you think he’s so angry? He’s not even participating in the contest anymore.” Jiang Cheng mocked, “Isn’t it clear? It’s because he especially hates you!”
JC's comments here are very interesting. He has just indicated to the reader that after WWX's little scene before the start of archery competition, he has had words with WWX. He stated he had told WWX not to tease LWJ. From the sounds of it, JC must have been more annoyed than he let on during their original encounter, as he just tutted and walked away obviously not wanting to watch them anymore. As I have mentioned in a previous post, the scene prior to this is undeniably flirty and brimming with sexual tension - so we can only imagine how uncomfortable seeing this would have made JC feel. That being said, JC actually turned away prior to WWX forcing LWJ to brush up against him and watching him walk away. So he didn't see the whole thing, yet he's obviously angry enough to speak to him about it just as the competition was starting.
The last comment JC makes in the above quote, is just dripping with vexation. Again, he tries to reaffirm LWJ hates WWX. He uses this opportunity to further his one man smear campaign against LWJ, trying to halt WWXs feelings towards him in the process.
We continue to see glimpses of JCs underlying uneasiness throughout the novel. I could pull up nearly every encounter WWX has with LWJ in his first life and JC would have some snarky comments about it all. Always reinforcing that LWJ hates WWX, trying and eventually succeeding in driving a wedge between them.
I think it's hard to deny that JC did notice something between the two. JCs overreaction during each encounter WWX and LWJ have with each other, is the start of his deeply-seated discomfort - which continues to grow into the ugly homophobia he starts to display over the course of the novel.

The old Jiang sect leader, JFM's father, rather liked prostitutes. It's the main reason JFM doesn't have a whole flock of siblings and half-siblings running around Lotus Pier (and seriously, as a Chinese person, I'm genuinely amazed at the lack of concubines with all the unhappy marriages in MDZS).
CSSR is the only half-sibling JFM is ever able to track down. Oh, sure, he had a brief, slight crush on her during his stint in CR, then they both worked out her paternity (her mother was - a kept woman, on retainer, so to speak) and disgust rather killed any other thoughts. To make up for his mingled disgust and guilt at her ending up in the streets after her mother's death, rather than being taken to Lotus Pier like a child of Sect Leader Jiang should have been, JFM ends up doting on her, in a strange sort of way - like an older brother should, he thinks.
They both swear themselves to secrecy on CSSR's true lineage. The mix of stigma at being the daughter of a prostitute (rather than an anonymous street child) and inevitable dragging into the power games of the high and mighty that would come with revealing CSSR's parentage is not something either of them want.
Yeah well, this comes off VERY differently to the outside world. JFM buying CSSR meals, whatever stupid shit caught her eye at the market, defending her against the other disciples (not that she needs it), and going along with her antics reads - very strangely - in a society with extremely strict separation of men and women, and without the context of knowing they're half-siblings.
JFM ignores this and happily sees her marry WCZ. All is right in the world when little Wei Ying (did she seriously name her son Baby Wei? what did he expect out of his goblin sister, honestly) is born, and when he hears word of their deaths - he's his jiufu. Since WCZ doesn't have family that he knows of, it's JFM's job to take in Wei Ying. He can't have him call him jiufu, as is proper - the more generic shushu is the closest he can get - but at least his nephew is where he should be, under his care.
Unfortunately, this again reads somewhat strangely with the rumours of his love of CSSR - rumours which he never fucking bothered to refute, rumours which are coming to bite him in the ass now. And he can't say anything, can't say the five words 她是我的妹妹/she is my (little) sister that would shut the fucking ridiculous gossip up. And from his own wife, no less.
For something like a decade, he gets to hear endless rumours of him sleeping with - though he is the only one alive who knows it - his own half-sister and siring his nephew on her, repeated by everyone, including his wife throwing those accusations in his face. And he - he can't say anything, because he and CSSR swore themselves to secrecy to protect her. Even if the accusations hurt her son, even if it hurts him. The oath taken to protect her has now turned on him and her son.
But it would still probably be less painful than exposing the truth and then bringing WWX into the mess. As JFM's blood nephew, he would have far higher expectations of him, a harder time escaping the politics of the main sect families than if he was just the son of a favoured servant - politics he is utterly unsuited for, that will suck his joyful soul dry and eat him alive. And damn it, JFM will at least spare his nephew that, if he can.
JFM grits his teeth around the truth, and calls for a servant to bring some wine to his study. It's been a long day of hearing his wife scream at him about supposedly fucking his own sister.
You ever just wanna beat JFM over the head and scream Communication! Is! Key! To! A! Healthy! Relationship!

[Deaged WWX and JC, feat. cuckji (w.i.p)]
ChengXian | Mo Dao Zu Shi 17-07-2021
[#xiancheng, deaged + cuckji I think?]
What if on some random night hunt, both wwx and jc get deaged to somewhere probably around the CR studies.
It is seriously troubling for everyone, especially the boy who still have their adult bodies. jc can tell this core isn't his. It being stronger was indeed a bit worrying when he wasn't explained what happened, but he somehow also could tell it /wasn't his/.
wwx on the other side saw his reflection in sandu and was shocked when he couldn't recognise himself but also felt much weaker than what he remembered "of the day before".
It takes a lot of calming down from the juniors and attempts at explaining who they are today (leaving the trauma on the side for now).
The thing is, they are still in the middle of solving some problems and the two "young" cultivators are more than happy to help despite being so troubled ("I trust we can fix it later" wwx said as jc rolled his eyes at his lack of care).
And this is how the juniors see for the first time what the duo was like before everything was shattered. They are so close to one another, fighting rather well despite the balance now being messed up (they somehow still manage to balance it well enough).
Back to the inn, everyone is surprised by how jc acts (even jl, who has only known jiujiu post-I-lost-everything-but-you). This is such a contrast from the fierce and severs looking sect leader they know (even tho the quartet has learned to know he can be nice and loving too).
wwx isn't 100% out of character, although he might be a bit less drunk than usual and a whole lot flirty with jc (which does make the juniors a bit unsure of what is happening.) of course, the ymj sect was immediately warned of what happened, so no one would be surprised of seeing their dear sect leader like this.
of course, lwj is also warned of the situation (as if they could let hgj in the dark about his husband). So while they all have that fun at the inn, you have ymj SIC and lwj on their way to them to make sure their respective reason of worries is alright.
meanwhile, the juniors are still stuck to deal with a wwx who is somehow more mischievous than before and a jc who is actually ready to /follow him/ in these ideas.
It is a strange evening for the juniors than to deal with these men who they look up to but are now basically around their age. But as no one has reached them yet for help, they decide that staying at the inn would be better. After all, it is close to where everything happened and they actually have yet to fully deal with what has been causing problems to this village.
They were going to take three rooms (thankfully to jl money, the juniors could share the biggest room here), but wwx asked why three when he and jc can share one. It takes a bit of arguing, only for jl to give in because he cannot argue against jiujiu telling him it would be stupid to spend on a room that isn't even needed.
So they now have two rooms and the juniors are a bit nervous about it.
What if they suddenly get back to normal in the middle of the night? Would they be alright in the same room?
"But don't you think senior way and sect leader jiang are strangely... very close to one another?" oyz ends up asking after a while.
Sure, they all had heard about how close the two had been in the past, but they felt like people had forgotten to tell them about how they seemed to flirt together?! This isn't right, especially since now, wwx is married to hgj!!
little did they know that wwx and jc had actually been pining for /years/ in the past.
it was Jiang "I am not enough he can find better" Cheng and Wei "I know jc doesn't see me as a servant but I still cannot be his for this reason" Ying being an absolute idiot. They had experienced together, mostly because they trusted each other in trying those, hiding behind it only being experiments and everyone does that yes, it wasn't because they were in love with each other.
These are the same idiots who most likely still had romantic love for each other, but had too much baggage at this point to go on with it.
But now you have them away from anything that could have been a cause of worries and a reminder of why they "couldn't". Sure, in their mind, it was only yesterday that yzy would have wiped wwx at the thought of his sleeping with her son, or that jfm was always putting wwx first.
But they also understood that now, no one would do such a thing. Now they would probably be side by side (and the role was probably reversed in the public eyes).
Now they were away and could a bit more easily indulge. especially in an inn.
They were happy to finally be in their room after checking out. Despite technically being the youngest of the group now, the juniors were still looking up for their opinions and also making sure they were alright. the duo was more than happy to finally be alone.
the moment they were in, wwx slapped a silencing talisman on the door, turning to jc with a grin, starting to tease him again about how he has been acting since earlier with the kids.
it ends up with them playfully arguing until jc finally pushes wwx to the bed and pins him down on it. It surprises them a bit all the ease it took jc to do it, after all, to them it wasn't so long ago that they were to the same strength, both physically and in cultivation. wwx laugh at this, since he was usually the one to pin jc down on a bed "A-cheng has gotten so strong" he praised with a grin.
jc shut him up with a kiss, wwx more than happy to indulge, pulling him closer.
It is a bit weird, since this is jc older body, while wwx simply did not have his at all. Yet it was as if they didn't care for any of it, as long as it was them it would always be alright (plus jc would lie if he said this body wasn't attractive too, even if differently).
(🌸NSFW-ISH to come)
hands soon start to roam over unfamiliar skin, slowly taking robes away so they can have direct access to the skin. fingers run over scares for which they do not know the history (and honestly they don't want to know right now).
After a while wwx ends up flipping them over, grinning when he is finally atop jc, kissing along his neck down his chest (giving some love to those harsh scars on his chest, feeling like he has an idea where they come from, yet he pushes it far away).
wwx in this body isn't as strong as jc, yet he lets him take over, letting wwx do as he wishes, more than happy that they can finally have this moment for them, knowing he will have all the time he wants to do whatever he wants with wwx too.
the night goes on like this, wwx taking all he wants and gladly letting jc take all he wants too.
To say the least, they didn't sleep much that night (which these older bodies do not seem to agree with).
when they meet again with the juniors, the group of young
(🌸 end)
man tries not to stare in disbelief and disapproval at the mark they may or may not have left visible on each other's neck (they might have gone a bit overboard with the knowledge of no one here to scold them). the lan juniors are a bit conflicted because they do not want for hgj to be destroyed by this (but lsz can easily see how happy this makes senior wei).
jl is in a way worried this will only end up hurting his jiujiu /again/. it is good to see him so happy, but what will it be like when they get back to normal? Will he be alone again?
and on the side oyz look about to go crazy over this new development.
it is so easy to catch on for the juniors, so of course, once they join the ymj SIC and lwj who are having tea downstairs at the inn while waiting for them, of course, they would notice it too (especially lwj, because he /knows/ he's not the one who put those mark here).
They know that both men had been deaged, but neither would have actually expected for something like this to happen. Sure, wwx and jc had a history of being really close, but none of them would have expected it to turn out like this. How could lwj have missed it in their youth?
it doesn't take long before the ymj SIC comes up to his sect leader, politely saluting him while presenting himself (he knows jc must have no idea who he is).
jc is a bit surprised by the action, still not used to the idea he was indeed a sect leader now (but also he had no memory of this man, had he been newer to LP?).
wwx give the man a glance, a bit unsure why /he/ wasn't the sic by jc sides (the juniors did tell them some of the history, but it never told him why he wasn't by jc sides anymore). then they looked at lwj who had approached wwx so suddenly, actually making him back off a little bit, not expecting for the man to come up to him so suddenly.
lwj clearly looks hurt for a moment, hand retracting as his eyes lingered on wwx neck and a couple of exposed marks. he looks displeased for a moment, yet no comments come and he goes back to his usual unexpressive face.
This does trouble wwx, looking back at the juniors who are greeting hgj politely. they have to explain again what happened the day before, saying they didn't have too much time to find out what happened since they had more pressing matters that they still hadn't fully taken care of yet.
"We are enough today that we can split, can't we?" jc asked. They were now 8, which included 2 that were actually older and more experimented now that they were both deaged.
"We could keep investigating here while you two go back to where everything happened" ljy suggested.
Every juniors agreed, not interested to be stuck in the weird and awkward situation that would happen once jc and wwx would go back to being close while lwj couldn't really do anything because this wasn't really the wwx he married (from what he understood, this wwx
was from a time when they barely even knew each other, he couldn't exactly expect wwx to accept so easily that they are husband now, doesn't stop from hurting when he sees what he sees).

🤔What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
🛠Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?
Thank you so much!
🤔What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
A fic I planned out but never got around to writing - Nie Huaisang gets Sect Leader Bingo! Inspired by a prompt on the Kink Meme - where NHS has already gotten sect bingo (aka slept with disciples from all the major sects) and WWX challenges him to get Sect Leader bingo while they're in Cloud Recesses. So then there would be several chapters of him seducing various sect leaders, starting out fun and cracky, but getting more serious. Sect Leader Lan would happen while at school, Sect Leader Wen would be during that period of time NHS fainted in Qishan and remained behind while everyone else went to meet the Xuanwu, and Sect Leader Jin would be NHS blackmailing JGS into it. But then things get more serious after NMJ dies. NHS gets Sect Leaders Jin & Lan 2.0 when LXC and JGY try to comfort him after his brother's death, and then there will be a "technically Sect Leader Nie" because *he* is sect leader Nie, and I'd thought of a scene where he's denying himself so much in his quest for vengeance, including physical affection that he feels he isn't deserving of until he avenges Da-ge (he watches a pair of courtesans making love and 'takes care of himself' while watching them). And of course by this point he's not even thinking of the Bingo, it's a distant memory, left behind with WWX. And then WWX is back, JGY is dead, and NHS tries to live his life again. And he's in Yunmeng for a cultivation conference and he spends some time with Jiang Cheng away from the rest of the crowd, and they argue about Guanyin Temple and everything that's happened, and in the end, they see each other for who they are, for what they've done and why, and even though they're not finished arguing over everything, they fall into bed together and are both open to seeing where it leads. And the day after that, where the story would actually begin, is NHS sitting in during the cultivation conference, feeling boyishly hopeful after the bridges he's built with Jiang cheng, and that's when he looks across the room, his eyes meet WWX's, and he suddenly comes to a realization... "Bingo!" he grins, and WWX is confused for a moment... until he GETS it, and demands to know details! And that's where the fic would begin, because the encounters would then be told via NHS telling WWX (and anyone nearby) the story of who he bedded and how. He almost doesn't mention YMJ, but WWX asks if NHS got JFM and he said no, and then JC, who's nearby, stiffens and asks if "that's what last night was about?!" and NHS needs to reassure him that he hadn't even remembered the stupid bet (cuz of course there's a bet) until that day, that he meant everythign he'd told JC the night before. And after WWX has finished giving him the evil eye for seducing his poor innocent Shidi, the friends will be frinds once again, etc etc etc.
🛠Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?
For my MDZS Big Bang... motivation! I'm about 1/2 done, I deliberately chose an idea that would be shorter so I don't write another 50k monster on a time limit, and the first check in is 25% and hasn't even come to pass yet - meaning my brain keeps saying "Oh, you've got PLENTY of time!" *ahem* So yeah, my procrastination is in full gear!

Hello and welcome to Day 8 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"
Tumblr media
Today, I wanna explore one simple idea that came to me because of a GIF of all things. This GIF to be more precise:
Tumblr media
The fic idea basically boils down to MDZS Magic Kaito AU.
Edit: As of February 6th, this fic has a title - "How to steal a gem (and a heart along the way)"
Main reasons that make this idea appealing for me:
Wei Wuxian as a magician and as a Phantom Thief is so cool to me.
Detective Lan Wanji is something I never knew I wanted in my life.
I freaking love Magic Kaito and Detective Conan.
Kuroba Kaito is so WWX coded is not even funny. (If these 2 meet, one (or both) of them is getting hurt because they take huge risks and are reckless as hell)
A short description of the plot:
Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren are a famous magician couple (Cangse Sanren is more often the magic assistant) that died in a fire 10 years ago, leaving their young seven-years old son in the care of his grandmother.
Because of his grandmother's demanding job, Wei Ying, curtesy Wuxian, ends up in the company of the Jiang family, who were friends of his parents. Jiang Fengmian is a police officer who is in charge of a task force, while Yu Ziyuan is an attorney. Wei Wuxian ends up going to the same school as the Jiang family's children, Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli.
The years pass, and when Wei Wuxian is 17 years old, he learns that the accident that took his parents' life was not truly an accident. He learns that his parents were once Phantom Thieves that ended up attracting the attention of some unsavory people - who, according to his father, are always wearing gold colored clothes. They wanted the two Phantom Thieves to work for them in order to find a specific gem called the "Yin Tiger Seal," which supposedly grants the owner immortality. Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren were killed because they refused the offer by the people in gold.
Coincidentally, as Wei Wuxian learns about this, Yiling Laozu - a famous Phantom Thief that dissappeared 10 years ago - makes an announcement that he will steal a gem. Wei Wuxian knows this is definitely not the real Yiling Laozu since his father, Wei Changze, was the Yiling Laozu before his death. Still, he is curious and, as Jiang Cheng would say, "very stupid." Thus, Wei Wuxian takes up the mantle of the Yiling Laozu to see what the copy-cat wants.
Wei Wuxian did not expect that two siblings, Wen Ning and Wen Qing, were behind the copy-cat Yiling Laozu. The two want to lure out Wei Changze's killers and bring them to justice. (Wei Changze saved them and their family, so Wen Ning and Wen Qing want to repay the kindness by making sure he gets the justice he deserves)
Wei Wuxian also didn't expect to enjoy being the Yiling Laozu so much. Or that he would have an unfortunate meeting with the people in gold that killed his parents. That meeting, however, made him want to not only put those people behind bars but also completely destroy the "Yin Tiger Seal" so that no one will ever kill another for it.
Meanwhile,
The Lan family, a family where all members are in some way, shape, or form involved into the police, is roped together with the Jiang family to catch the Yiling Laozu that just came back.
Their youngest son, Lan Wangji, who is a detective, seems awfully interested in catching the thief himself. For him, Yiling Laozu is the definition of chaos and should be put in jail for his crimes. And yet, the more Lan Wanji fails to catch the ever-elusive Yiling Laozu, the more captivated by the man he becomes. Where other thieves would be more ruthless, Yiling Laozu seems almost playful in all of their encounters - as if he is truly just playing around and putting on a show for the people who watch his heists. The thief never killed or injured people either; even the task force - if one doesn't count their ego being hurt - never came in direct danger. (It doesn't help that the thief always returns the gems he stole and never kept one for himself yet)
So, Lan Wanji thinks there might be a reason for the heists held by Yiling Laozu. Though it is mere speculation on his part, Lan Wangji thinks this thief that seems incapable of hurting anyone may be in danger.
The detective's speculation turned into reality when, during one of Yiling Laozu's magic shows/heists, someone shoots the thief. From this moment onwards, Lan Wangji dedicates himself to finding out who shot the thief and the reason behind the Yiling Laozu's return.
So what do you guys think? Good? Bad? Let me know!
I still have more fanfic ideas to share, and apparently, they multiply all the time - I can't even see one simple GIF without my brain making a freaking plot bunny out of it.
Regardless, I hope you guys have a great day/night and take care of yourselves!
I will see you tomorrow,

It's asexual representation day so-
Here are my Headcanons concerning ace-spectrum sexuality for MDZS characters -(know that they're evolving as i write)
I HeadCanon...
Lan Qiren as Aro-Ace. He does not feel sexual desire at all (not ever) can see people are beautiful like he can see a painting is beautiful but that's it. He has never been in love and given his family's foolish decision history because of love, doesn't want to be. He doesn't understand love at all and i like to write him being completely lost with his nephews + brother's love tragedy. (His opinion is basically "Like could you perharps, just not fall in love with a criminal??? maybe that would have helped not being miserable???)
I rarely get to write him that way because i have friends who love Lan Qiren/Sisi dearly so I gave them their ship when i can. In Building a home and Burning roofs however he is going to be Aro-ace, and stay that way until the end.
Wen Zhuliu is Aro (but not ace) in Building a Home and Burning Roofs. I'm planning on a queer platonic relationship between him and Wen Xu (who is Ace but not Aro) idk how it will develop yet.
But when i think about it i think i like the other way around, with Wen Zhuliu being a mix of in love with WRH on top of his loyalty. Though i do like having him being just Loyal-to-this-extent too without involving love (because love is not the explanation for everything/every loyalty)
Wen Ning is a complicated character for me, i like him Biromantic, that's for sure. But i also like him as Aromantic (making his devotion for WWX entirely on friendship gets me). One day i might write him as an Aromantic character. But right now i want to write a fic where he ends up with Mo Xuanyu. (In Building a Home and Burning roofs and Just a drop he ends up with Qin Su so i'm done with this pairing for now) Either way i like to imagine him on the ace spectrum, not sex repulsive but definitely not seeking things beyond hugs and kisses naturally.
Wen Qing i know lot of people HC her as a lesbian, but i started with CQL so i ship her with JWY (and my crack ship is her with JWY and NHS). I have like 0 ship with her as lesbian, sorry >< it's just not my jam. But I do like her on the asexual spectrum, very much like her brother, not sex-repulsive but very aware of consequences of sex (diseases, pregnancy, labor) and not looking forward that complication in her life. Sex is never a drive for her, emotions/affection are.
Jiang Wanyin again i started with CQL so i ship him hard with WQ. But as i read the novel i started to like him as Ace too. Then reading fic i started to like him with NHS too and i decided that since he wasn't loved by his parents he deserves two spouses and not a love triangle. This is how my crackship was born xD Anyways now i HC more as Demisexual (so on the ace spectrum still) he needs to spend lot of time and bond with someone before he develops feelings of love then sexual desire. It takes a long time and he is confused about it. He doesn't like kisses, sex, hugs when he is witnessing them but as he starts having a relationship he finds himself yearningf or it and it infuriates him. (He is not going to end up like his stupid brother!!)
Unfortunately i have 2 NOTP with JC which are LXC/JWN (I need canon interaction to ship, i do not understand this ship) - and JWN/WWX (i just don't vibe with it, i like them as brothers u-u sorry for those who likes it)
Nie Huaisang should not have a place here as i HC him as very Allo-horny, pansexual and even sometimes lately trans. But since in my crackship he is with asexual-characters i want to say that he respects his partner's boundaries UU All he wants is attention and love and fortunately having 2 spouses assures that there's always one ready to give him some. Sure he prefers having them both but consent is sexy.
I like to imagine sharing his porn book with them and WQ is judging it like "it's doable" or "this is compltely anatomically inaccurate and dangerous" while JC is like "please can we not- in front of my salad!" until they kiss him silly and he is like "fine but i'm not doing that part èé you want this NHS you do ALL THE WORK!" and NHS whines bc he doesn't want to work :c (and ends up convincing JC to do all the work bc JC has a praise kink)
Nie Mingjue is my most certain HC, i HC him as Ace of course (otherwise he wouldn't be on that list). But i also HC him as being completely in denial / confused about it and not able to put what he feels into words. He loves JGY but not the same way he loves LXC who is his best friend but how? I HC that their fallout / break up is 50% due to heartbroken denial on NMJ's part. He turned into this diorcee character who couldn't see a single flaw in their partner during their marriage but now they are separated their ex only have flaws.
I adore putting him as the "too ace for this bullshit" type of situation. Especially stuck him between his little brother, (NHS) his best friend (LXC) and ex (JGY) and being like "why" "why do you want to lick his face??? actually neverminde don't explain i don't want to know"
Putting him in this situation made me relate to him (i find myself back in High school with people kissing left and right and me being like "cant' we just play football?")
In Building home serie, I will probably explore his sexuality more. For now he is not sex repulsed (something i do like HC him as, but not always and not in this fic) - but he sexual intercourse is very much like a good training session for him. I can't wait to write about him exploring that, especially since LXC and JGY are horny (well they have problems so they can't be horny right now but-)
Wei Wuxian is totally demisexual in my HC. He does not imagine more than cottage core fantasy until he is certain of his beloved's affection. Then it goes to kinky land trainride wet dreams. I do think he is in love and in denial of his sexual urges (excusing it as teasing) until he is certain the love is returned. What does it say about his character? A lot. And i like to write about it.
Last but not least is Jin Guangyao as demisexual bi - listen my OTP (with Wangxian and ChengQingSang) is Xiyao. But i do HC him as Bi, and needing very much like WWX to be loved/respected to develop feelings. Qin Su is like this, i think he very much wanted to love a woman (bc to fit in and be the perfect son) and she was pretty and admired him so his heart caved. The only exception is LXC, he saw him and his brain went "pretty" then LXC respected him and his brain melted right away despite his precautions. I also adore HC JGY as having troubles with sex in general -being scared of it, of the intimacy, of the loss of control. Which almost brings him to the ace spectrum?
I do like story with Ace-sex repulsed and together and happy withtout sexual intercourses. (I aim to go for that with Wen Xu and Zhao Zhuliu in Building home serie; though i don't feel very confident about it) I loved KouhiArashi's fic "atypical courtship". But I don't write about isuch couples often because that hits very close to home for me and i don't write/read fanfics to be reminded of real life.
And here it is. The others characters in my mind are either hetero, homosexual or bisexual or pansexual but not on the ace spectrum. (Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji are very gay in my HC for example)
Know all those above are MY OPINIONS only (and as stated it changes too) don't take it personally i put the word HC for a reason. This is NOT a statement and presented as "the truth about this character's sexuality and everyone who disagree read the novel wrong"

Modern Roommates au for the MXTX white & red groups
Xie Lian, Shen Qingqiu, and Lan Wangji all live next door to Wei Wuxian, Hua Cheng, and Luo Binghe.
On the Heaven Line (I've seen that one used once so I'm going with it) side:
LWJ moved in specifically because he heard WWX was moving in.
SQQ (actually SY) moved in while trying to escape Cang Qiong academy after a 4-year long-con came to a head.
XL moved in because the rent was super cheap.
On the Demon Line side:
WWX also moved in because the rent was super cheap.
LBH moved in specifically because SQQ moved in.
Hua Cheng owns the building but doesn't want XL to know that yet.

Anybody else think it was a fucking waste that Dub!Haruhi doesn't actually call everyone "dude" and "bro". Like, I get that was a translation thing, but I would pay to see Haruhi call the other hosts that like:
"Tamaki-senpai. Dude. You need to chill."
"Oh, honey-senpai! What's up bro?"
Like picture Haruhi saying this completely unironically and just try and tell me you wouldn't be cackling.

Imagine if you transmigrated and had to fake being a competent adult for years before finally finding someone else who also transmigrated from the same time as you... only they liked all of the memes that you found super annoying and you're now wondering whether you should kill them anyway.
That's cumplane.

the REAL reason why everything worked out in the end of SVSSS is because, despite the system's and literally everyone else's best efforts, Shen Yuan made the whole thing a comedy through pure, sarcastic force of will and everyone knows that the difference between a Shakespearean comedy and a Shakespearean tragedy is that one ends with a wedding and the other ends with a funeral.

My #1 post of 2022
I love Scum Villain. No one has any idea how the fuck Qi-deviations work, and no one really cares.
People get de-aged and amnesia and fucking animal ears and MQF is just walking in 10 minutes late with xanxia fantasy starbucks like:
"oh. yeah. that's definitely a Qi-deviation. they'll be fine in a couple days. or they might die! who knows."
and no one can even blame him because he's the only reason all of the dumbasses on Bai Zhan peak haven't keeled over from doing something stupid.
In nearly every other series by mxtx Qi-deviations are like barely a thing that comes up, and are generally fairly reasonable things like "oh he had a qi-deviation so he tried to kill everyone and then died horribly" but not fucking SVSSS!

WWX doesn't die, he is found and taken captive by the Jin Sect but spends 13 years in a coma under lock and key until he wakes up to interrogate. When the truth about the JGY is revealed, JL recruits LWJ to ferret out whatever else the Jins had been hiding, discovering the still comatose WWX. WWX is taken to Gusa in hopes of waking him up no one has much hope but then WWX stirs when LWJ plays Wangxian...
Jin Guangshan was, to put it lightly, pissed when they brought back a comatose Wei Wuxian from the Siege. After all, what he was after was Wei Wuxian’s genius. His inventions. And how could they possibly access them with him asleep?
Jin Guangyao had considered torture, at first, to try and wake him up. And he tried to get his subordinates to do it but they couldn’t even get close, intimidated by the resentful energy-soaked aura emanating from Wei Wuxian.
So Jin Guangyao had taken it into his own hands.
…….And failed miserably.
He couldn’t even touch the unconscious man before resentful energy lashed out at him, leaving deep, viscous, slow-healing wounds all over his arms. And any means of torturing him out of sleep from a distance was taken out of his hands, literally, by resentful tentacles.
When he brought Xue Yang in to try and wake Wei Wuxian up, the resentful energy he commanded made the situation a whole lot worse as the resentful energy leaking from Wei Wuxian wrapped him up protectively and crystalized the man in resentful energy.
“Well!” Xue Yang exclaimed cheerfully. “This is quite interesting. I’ve never seen resentful energy act so protectively before! And as much as I’d love to study this, I don’t think the resentful energy is willing to let me get close.” Just as he said this, a tentacle whipped out and sliced across Xue Yang’s cheek.
Jin Guangyao sighed, herding Xue Yang out and locking the room up. Wei Wuxian will have to wake up eventually. I just have to be patient. The injuries Wei Wuxian had weren’t terrible and with how strong Wei Wuxian’s golden core was, it’s only a matter of time before he heals. Perhaps he’ll wake up then.
But he didn’t. He never did.
...................................
After all the lies had been revealed and Jin Guangyao had been condemned and killed, Jin Ling decided to look through Jin Guangyao’s belongings, just in case there was more forbidden stuff that needs to be taken care of. Of course, he didn’t want to go in without any protection cause who knows what’s there! (Maybe there was another Wen Ning?) So he asked Hanguang-Jun to help him. He would ask his jiujiu, but he had been oddly despondent after hearing Jin Guangyao’s taunts that none of this would have happened had he trusted Wei Wuxian more. So asking jiujiu was out of the question!
Besides, Hanguang-Jun looked like he needed something to do.
In the end, they found a lot of stuff pertaining to demonic cultivation and restoring the Seal. As well as a warded diary containing dirt on a lot of sect leaders.
As Jin Ling wandered around, he heard a sudden shaking and worried about an earthquake until he turned around to see Hanguang-Jun staring at the entrance to a room that wasn’t there before. As soon as the man stepped in, he made a wounded sound that Jin Ling had never heard before before rushing in.
Jin Ling had the inkling that he probably shouldn’t follow, but curiosity got the better of him.
The room looked well-furnished and had all the makings of a bedroom, but that’s not what caught Jin Ling’s attention. Instead, it was a man encased in black crystal.
“Wei Ying.....” Hanguang-Jun seemed to sob. “Wei Ying......”
Wei Ying? As in, Wei Wuxian? My supposed deceased Dajiu???? What the hell is he doing here? Oh wait. That was a stupid question. Looking at all the material on demonic cultivation, Jin Guangyao probably wanted to get some information about it from him......
Considering there was nothing else in the room, Jin Ling silently made his exit. He felt like he shouldn’t have seen Hanguang-Jun crying. Oh well.
He busied himself gathering the stray papers and manuscripts and stuffed them into his qiankun pouch. He didn’t want to touch the dangerous looking stuff.
There was a sound, much like the shattering of glass, and Hanguang-Jun exited the room, a pale, but breathing Wei Wuxian cradled in his embrace.
They packed up the remaining objects in the room and left. After making sure Jin Ling had everything in order, Hanguang-Jun unsheathed Bichen and left without another word. Seeing the wide-eyed gazes of a few Jin elders, Jin Ling sighed. Wei Wuxian’s survival probably won’t be a secret anymore now.
...........................
Lan Wangji could hardly believe his eyes when he first saw Wei Ying. He had thought he was dreaming or this was some cruel sort of curse. But it wasn’t.
The feel of the resentful energy coursing throughout the crystal literally shocked him so he was sure he wasn’t dreaming. He touched Wei Ying’s face through the crystal.
“Wei Ying.....” He cried. “Wei Ying.....” You’re alive. You’re really alive.......
After some time, he pulled himself together. He had to figure out how to transport Wei Wuxian to Gusu to figure out how to break the crystal......
The crystal shattered abruptly, startling Lan Wangji. He was about to catch Wei Ying, when the resentful energy did it for him, causing Wei Ying to float in the air for a bit, before carrying him over to Lan Wangji and dropping him in his arms.
Lan Wangji was bewildered at the resentful energy’s actions, but nevertheless, that solved the issue of getting Wei Ying out of here.
He barely registered Jin Ling fluttering about the room, absentmindedly sealing and packing away the dangerous objects. He helped Jin Ling settle the items they found in the secret room before taking off to Gusu without another word.
.
.
Wei Ying did not wake up no matter what anyone did. Now that he had been absolved of any and all crimes had been accused of, his uncle had allowed Wei Ying’s presence, in fact, even looking quite guilty. Lan Qiren had been the loudest voice in the Lan sect about ridding the world of Wei Ying.
But three days passed without any change to Wei Ying’s state.
Most healers had given up hope, some even citing that the damage to Wei Wuxian’s soul was probably too great to ever allow him to awaken--not that they could check that. They all said that he probably didn’t want to wake up. After all the cultivation world had done to him, Lan Wangji wouldn’t blame him.
But he was human, he was selfish. He wanted to hear Wei Ying again, no matter what.
Sitting by his side, Lan Wangji brought out his guqin, playing a song he hadn’t touched in over a decade. He poured all his love, all his longing and passion into the playing, hoping that maybe, Wei Ying would hear it and answer.
It was just wishful thinking. But Lan Wangji had spent thirteen years wishfully thinking that Wei Ying was alive and he was right.
He just.....He wanted---
A soft groan broke the air and Lan Wangji stopped playing, rushing over to Wei Ying’s side.
Wei Ying’s hand twitched and his eyes fluttered.

Just another post to justify JC ignoring life debts toward the Wen Siblings. Funny enough, this person thought WQ would achieve anything by voice her disagreement with WRH becoming the overlord. Or they thought WQ would totally be fine to go against WRH publicly (then again by helping WWX and JC, she and WN did go against WRH in secret and NMJ didn't know that because the ungrateful grape didn't bother to explain how he and WWX owned them).
And hey, so follow this person's logic, because WQ kicked JC and WWX out, so JC didn't own WQ that much (even though she let them stay for three days, took care of their wounds and didn't rat JC and WWX out to WC). Cool, but what about WN? He is the reason JC still alive and be able to retrieve his parents' bodies to do his filial duty. If that life debt is still small for this person to deem not worth for gratitude, then next time if anyone ever offer these types of helps to this person and JC, they shouldn't accept them.
I'm sorry this person and even NMJ are so stupid and insensitive to unable to imagine how dangerous it is for people who live under a tyrant regime to even do a tiny act of protests. Like they expected people to forfeit their lives and families to go against the regime that would wipe them out easily.
I'm almost impressed by how effectively they miss the actual message of the story Re: indiscriminate mass revenge against people is not simpatico...🥲. Bc by their logic killing Granny Wen and A Yuan is fine eh- bc Wens. NMJ is a hothead and he generally has the most extreme opinions.
I think ppl often forget too that Lan Xichen speaking up means something. It means something because The Cloud Recesses were burned down by the Wens. His father died because of them. He and his brother almost died as well, and they were never the recipients of their aid as jiang cheng was.
But above all WWX's words are the most meaningful.
"Wei WuXian, “Did I say something wrong? Forcing living people to be bait and beating them up whenever they refused to obey—is this any different from what the QishanWen Sect does?”
Another guest cultivator stood up, “Of course it’s different. The Wen-dogs did all kinds of evil. To arrive at such an end is only karma for them. We only avenged a tooth for a tooth, letting them taste the fruit that they themselves had sown. What’s wrong with this?”
Wei WuXian, “Take revenge on the ones who bite you. Wen Ning doesn't have blood on his hands. Don’t tell me that you find them guilty by association?”
and
Wei WuXian grinned, “Oh. The Wen-dogs did all kinds of evil, so anyone whose surname is Wen can be killed? That’s not it, is it? Many of the clans who defected from the Wen Sect are quite well-off right now, aren’t they? In this hall, isn’t there a few sect leaders from clans that used to be under the Wen Sect’s wing?”
As the sect leaders saw that he recognized them, their expressions changed at once. Wei WuXian continued, “Since anyone whose surname is Wen can be used an outlet of anger as one pleases, no matter if they’re innocent or not, does it mean that it’s fine even if I kill all of them right now?”
How do people not understand that MXTX had the mc say all of this to point out ppl's hypocrisy. To point out how their kind of thinking is wrong?
Back to that post: "Like what could Wen Qing and Wen Ning possibly have don't to cancel out the Wen Sect's huge responsibility for the massacre of the Jiang Sect" ... 🌝... yes, see this would be the moment for jiang cheng to open his mouth and explain how they were not involved in what happened at LP other than to save his sorry ass.
Love how they cut off the most relevant quotes about WQ too :
I’m the office leader of Yiling, but I was ordered to take the position. I’m a medic, an apothecary, I’ve never killed anyone, much less touched the blood of the Jiang Sect.”
It was true. Nobody had heard of any lives lost by Wen Qing’s hands. There were always many cases that people wanted her to take over. It was because Wen Qing was one of the Wen Sect’s people whose way of doing things was actually normal. At times she could even put in a few good words for people in front of Wen RuoHan. Her reputation had always been good.
and
Although the pack of herbs smacked right onto Wen Ning, he spoke happily, “The medicine that my sister prepared will definitely turn out good. Hundreds of times better than mine. It’ll be good for sure.”
Wei WuXian finally felt relief, “Thank you.”
He understood the fact that one of these siblings deciding to turn a blind eye to them and the other deciding to outright help them meant that they were placing themselves in extreme danger. Just as Wen Qing said, if Wen Chao truly wanted to kill anyone, it was unlikely for Wen Qing to be able to stop him. Perhaps she’d be affected as well. After all, children of others could never compare to children of one’s own.
and instead went w : "She herself is aware of her choice when she tries to kick Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian out so as to not get Wen Ning and their house in trouble." Hm... yes she's aware, exactly, AND SHE DOESN'T KICK JIANG CHENG AND WEI WUXIAN OUT. THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT. ( Φ ω Φ )

Fic ideas that keep me in a fog at inappropriate times throughout the day: Part 3
Zhancheng De-Aging!AU
10 years after the death of WWX, JC and LWJ clash on a night hunt with their own group of disciples. JC ends up taking a curse from a demonic cultivator that would have hit LJY (why is it deaging? I don't know-the demonic cultivator is bad at his job-he's looking for nonlethal methods of getting rid of the threat posed by cultivators when they interrupt him because he's actually just super interested in necromancy as like a field of study and not as a grab for power-the mad scientist without a cause/clue-IDK, I want it to be a stupid reason).
ANYWAY-Lan Wangji ends up with two groups of juniors and one baby sect leader who doesn't like anyone but Jin Ling and refuses to let anyone else touch him. JC is de-aged to about three years of age and calls JL Ling-gege and LWJ stupid-face-gege and LWJ doesn't WANT to take them all to Cloud Recesses, but SL Jiang is cursed for protecting one of his charges and also the Lans are very good at curse breaking. The Jiang disciples not down with going to CR, wanting to go back to LP, but LWJ pulls rank and they all end up going, but they're miffed about it and are planning on being absolutely vile while they are 'unlawfully detained'.
(LJY absolutely scandalized that anyone would talk about Hanguang Jun like that, right in front of his salad, but also feeling guilty mostly because Jin Ling can't go two minutes without declaring this whole thing is Jingyi's fault so when the Jiang disciples also start referring to LWJ as stupid-face-gege under their breaths where he can hear them he wants to yell at them but feels like he can't and ends up looking very constipated).
Cut to Jiang disciples being loud in the CR, because they are not 'guests' of Lan sect, but rather 'political prisoners' and when Lan juniors demand to know how they came to that conclusion, Jiang disciples challenge them to duels rather than answering. Jiang disciples lining up in a random courtyard and running back and forth, one end to the other, screaming they have to keep up their training regiment or SL Jiang will break their legs when he recovers. SL Jiang is three years old and nods very solemnly in agreement when this is shouted where he can hear. LWJ trying to lock himself in the Jingshi to avoid responsibility for all this but LQR forcing him to take charge of the Jiang disciples because he's the one who insisted on bringing them here and LWJ wants to know what Shufu would have done with twenty thirteen years and a cursed not-a-toddler and then LXC announces that he's contacted the Jiang sect Head Disciple who is coming to take charge of the Jiang juniors and check up on JC.
The Lan Cursebreakers are not impressed by the curse that struck SL Jiang. It's exasperatingly messy-not difficult to straighten out but not something they can do all at once. It's requires several stages of curse breaking over the course of nearly a month. It also requires their particular brand of curse breaking so he has to stay there. Head Disciple Jiang Meixiu wants to know what will happen if SL Jiang is just taken back to LP and they assure her that he wouldn't die or anything, but the curse will wear off naturally only after a long time (we're talking years). JL is very distressed, cries that he can't have a baby for a jiujiu for YEARS and it is very quickly decided that SL Jiang will stay for treatment. Jiang Meixiu takes her juniors out of CR (the sheer RELIEF at their departure is palpable and makes said juniors very proud that even if they couldn't help their SL, they were still a nuisance to people SL doesn't like). JL also has to leave because he is due in Lanling and LXC takes him as they come up with some sort of acceptable story for why JC is not dropping off his nephew like he always does (one that JGY will know automatically is a lie but the more he pulls at that thread, the less he gets because none of his imagined plots have anything to do with toddlerizing the scariest sect leader in the jianghu).
LQR is still not impressed by the chaos that has overtaken the CR; refuses to let JC stay with the younger children in the nursery because that would raise too many questions. Drops a toddler JC in LWJ's lap and says the Lan equivalent of "you break it you buy it" before leaving. Both toddler!JC and LWJ are unimpressed with this, but LWJ does know how to take care of a small child, has LSZ's childhood things stored in the Jingshi. He does not like sharing these items with SL Jiang, especially not since the toddler version still insists on calling him stupid-face-gege. LWJ prepares for a trying month.
First application of curse breaking results in JC growing overnight. He goes to bed three years old and wakes up about six/seven. This JC has manners, no longer calls LWJ stupid-face-gege, and also wants his parents and/or his older sister and/or his three puppies. LXC and LQR arrive to deliver a 'not technically a lie' explanation to the young sect leader who thinks he's still a sect heir and then again abandon his care to LWJ. JC at this stage is a very quiet child, working hard to gain LWJ's approval by obeying the rules he sometimes quotes at JC. LWJ occupies his time by giving JC 'lessons', reading/writing whatever it is that age group learns in Gusu Lan sect. He 'rewards' JC for good work with trips to the bunny meadows. JC is hungry for praise, is breathless when LWJ gives it in short phrases and encouraging nods. LWJ thinking LSZ was once like this, but not this eager. Speak of the devil, the thirteen year old and LJY arrive to check on things. JC in awe of the new arrivals because they HAVE SWORDS (LWJ also has a sword, but to JC he is a fully grown adult and therefore it isn't as exciting as two older CHILDREN with SWORDS). LWJ sending JC with the two for some time in the afternoons to take a break himself. One day LSZ and LJY returning JC with somber looks-explains that JC explained some things about his home life that made the other two feel bad.
("He said he likes it here, because you're happy to teach him and happy he's learning," LSZ confesses, "and at home, his parents send him to tutors and don't really pay attention when he tries to demonstrate what he's learnt unless there's something wrong with it. He says you find less things wrong with his work than his parents-and then he said he would want to live here forever if only his jiejie could come-oh, and his puppies too,")
Next stage of treatment brings JC to about 9/10 years of age and this JC constantly asks for WWX. This causes a negative reaction from LWJ, who becomes cold to JC whenever he asks. LQR and LXC appear again to explain away his predicament with another 'not a lie' lie, and LWJ is still in charge of JC. One day he asks if JC really wants WWX with him, and JC gets defensive when he argues that he does because "WWX is my shixiong and it's weird to be here without him-we do everything together, we're always together". This is the worst time that they spend together.
Next stage of treatment and JC is about 14. LQR deems him old enough for a version of the truth. They explain that JC is actually older than he appears, that there is a curse upon him that he has been sent to CR to break. This JC is the most rule-abiding version of himself. He accepts the explanation and reasoning for why more info is not forthcoming without a complaint. His first question afterwards is again about WWX ("Wait-what about WWX? Is he all right?" "Why wouldn't he be?" "Well, I was cursed on a nighthunt, right? He would have been there with me-did something happen to him? Why isn't he here?"). LXC makes an offhand comment on how if the sect heir is disposed, where would the Head Disciple be required to be (LXC, not technically lying sucessfully for 30 plus years). This version of JC is given back his sword and LWJ mostly occupies him with training and sparring. He gets too aggressive one day, when JC is insistent on writing to his family back home and WWX in particular, keeps mentioning WWX casually all the time in complete ignorance to his own part in Wei Ying's death. LWJ has a moment of weakness and JC runs off scared. JC is gone for half a day before they find him trying to get around the Lan wards to go home.
("You're lying about WWX-I know you are! He would never leave me here like this, on my own!"
The utter certainty in his voice makes even LQR kind of sad.)
JC refuses to spend more time in the Jingshi. The next stage of treatment happens and JC is almost identical to what he looked like before the curse, fewer muscles, narrower soldiers. He's about 20 and there is a shadow of ever present anxiety in his eyes. He goes through all the explanations without interruption and asks to speak with LWJ alone, after.
("Something happened to him, didn't it?" There are tears in the young sect leader's eyes. "I knew it would-I tried so hard to bring him home but he wouldn't leave them and the Jins wouldn't leave him. I thought when we first went back to LP he would get better-but he never did. You know, I hate that he's run off with these Wen dogs, whatever the reason-but sometimes it makes me a little relieved. He was drinking himself to death back home and I didn't know how long before he either left or ended up dead-my shixiong never came back from the war. But after he took them to that place, whenever I go, he seems more like himself again. I hate that he couldn't do that at home, but that he could do it at all seemed like a prayer answered. But they're not going to leave him alone-they'll never just let him be. He won't understand that-no matter how much I try to explain it. Maybe he already knows and he doesn't care. Maybe he'd really rather be with them than be with us. I just wish I knew what I had done to drive him away-then maybe I could reverse and find a way to bring him back. Have you seen him, lately Lan-er-gonzi? He always seems happy to talk to you-maybe you've had better luck."
LWJ doesn't have an answer to that.)
This is the longest phase since he first cursed. LWJ can barely stand the sight of him. JC responds to his aversion with scalding poisonous baiting. LQR bans them from the training grounds for fear that someone will be killed or horribly maimed. They fight all the time regardless, fuming asides and calculated accusations. LWJ hasn't spoken so many words at one time in his whole life. There is no leaving an argument with JC unless LWJ can leave him utterly lost and desolated. In the midst of one of these verbal brawls, JC slips up about losing his core and then shuts up, refusing to say another word. LWJ is infuriated by all this, because before JC wouldn't shut up and now he won't engage and there's something vital and important there that JC is hiding from LWJ and LWJ wants to pull that thing from JC's chest with his bare hands. His mind makes up scenarios, fed by so many suspicions, and JC barricades himself in his guest rooms to avoid LWJ.
The next stage of treatment arrives and LWJ almost tries to delay it because he wants answers. JC ages again, but ends up seemingly catatonic. He doesn't move, doesn't speak, just stares into the distance, slumped over if they try to make him sit or eyes fixed on the ceiling if they leave him be. Alarmed, they write to Jiang Meixiu and nothing changes in the meanwhile. JMX arrives and sits with her SL for a long time before coming out and explaining.
"He was like this before, right after Nightless City. He wouldn't move, wouldn't speak-like he was gone even though his body was here. We couldn't even get him to eat or drink. We thought he had been cursed; Healer Tan asked us how much death and loss we expected a twenty year old to hold. We thought he would die like that, and maybe he would have-but Madam Jin arrived one day with JL crying in her arms. She slapped him and told him that her friend's last living child would have to live because he had a duty to his sister's child. She put JL in his lap and went back to Koi Tower, and I am grateful everyday that she did because it finally brought him back."
The next treatment is the final one. LWJ hasn't been back to JC's room in the healing pavilion for days. He couldn't stand to see the blankness on a face that was normally so violently expressive. He didn't want to see the toll of all these years on a man he is determined to hate because all this anger and negativity from losing Wei Ying has to go somewhere and JC FAILED Wei Ying by his own admission-but there is also that secret that he slipped up about, that LWJ doesn't know the full truth of, that his mind keeps poking at and finding no satisfying resolution.
(There are so many clues, but his mind won't put them together in a satisfactory way. Between 14 and 19, three wounds appeared, marring the formerly smooth expanse of JC's chest and shoulder. They are ugly, twisted things. There are 4 or 5 of them-his back twinges in sympathy before his mind is able to quiet the impulse.
JC had been rubbing at those wounds when he made that slip-up, alerted LWJ to the fact that there was a secret he carried, a secret probably tied to those scars, and it was MADDENING that LWJ didn't know, couldn't force an answer-that three weeks ago JC was 6 and thought the world of LWJ and then he was 14 and scared of LWJ, and now he is himself and he is back to hating LWJ).
JC thanks the Lan sect for their help, pledges LP will always be open to Lan sect members whenever they needed help in recompense for their aid in this time. LXC is sectleader-ly back at JC, recommends he send a letter to JL before heading out, and there is an uncomfortable stare-off between LWJ and JC that goes on for way too long before JC and JMX finally leave CR for LP.
Months later, another night hunt. The mad scientist demonic cultivator has now created curses that bind a cultivator to the nearest thing that he hates/dislikes. LWJ and JC are STUCK together (LJY is stuck to like five different Jiang juniors). This time they go to LP, where Jiang healers have been brushing up on their curse-breaking abilities. LSZ and the other Lan juniors are handed off to Yu Xiuying (3rd ranked Jiang senior), and she tries her best to corrupt them. LWJ is too frustrated with his current predicament to pay close enough attention (LAN JUNIORS ARE RUNNING AROUND THE PIERS AND SCREECHING AS THEY JUMP INTO THE LAKES AND LAN JINGYI IS THE INFIRMARY FOR CURSE BREAKING AND NOT ALLOWED TO JOIN).
LWJ is a bitchy king ("Of all the demonic cultivators you've trapped and killed-why is it this one that you refuse to use deadly force against?"
"Demonic cultivator? He raised two fierce corpses, and then only to see if he could, and at most had they do heavy lifting for a couple of days before putting them back to rest. He moved on from necromancy to alchemy months ago-he's not a demonic cultivator. He's a bloody nuisance! His whole purpose in life is to invent incapacitating but stupid curses so he can go on with his stupid, dangerous experimentation. I was only on his tail because the idiot is trying to replicate the process of creating a yao in a laboratory setting-FOR SCIENCE, he says! Irresponsible, reckless, and damned certain of his own superior intellect and morality-do you know how many times I've tested him to make sure he isn't WWX come back to life? Because if WWX was going to come back to life, I fully believe his first bit of business would be trying to annoy me to death!"
LWJ cannot deny the possibility without lying, so stays silent but slightly murderous in countenance). This curse is easier to break-the Lan are back on the way to CR within a week. JC sends them off with a "let's never do this again, okay Hanguang Jun?" and LWJ leaves with a "do your job better then" and only JMX stops a swordfight from breaking out so early in the morning.
And that's it-that would be the fic. There would be a sequel, where they end up fucking a lot about a bunch of different things, but mostly about that secret LWJ wants to know and that JC refuses to acknowledges exists ("Secrets? Why would I need to keep secrets, Hanguang Jun? I am a man of honour").

hate cql fix-its that have the golden core reveal happen early/wwx telling the jiangs that then has a domino effect of fixing every wrong that happens thereby implying that everything bad that happens was wwx's fault for not telling ppl he doesn't have a core. and then the way people rewrite the cool shit wwx does so that other characters do it but ~better and ~smarter like it's somehow less offensive and more effective when it's not wwx. like him crashing the banquet to ask about the wens or when he told jgs off for trying to marry off jyl to jzx like iconic wwx moments that no one else has the range for. also just like pretending that the issue was SOLELY that no one had the context to understand wwx's behavior and not also that he was deliberately sabotaged by the sects and his own brother. like i will not argue that having context for his behavior would have helped lwj, jyl, and possibly some other characters to understand and protect him better or at least sympathize w him but you can't tell me it'd make much of a difference to the cultivation world as a whole, or to jc as soon as the public's perception of wwx and wwx's morals began to clash with jc's position. imo concealing the lost gc was most impactful on his close personal relationships like i think in the end the cultivation world would have come to look at him the same way as an evil unnatural heretic who should shut up, stay down, and play nice in the face of the sects' immorality. which isn't smth jc ever disagreed with btw like why do ppl think jc would suddenly back wwx as his super powerful necromancer second when jc already HAD that option and kicked wwx out anyway. add to that the pressure the other sects would add to get rid of the useless cultivator without a core who relies on evil tricks and jc would turn on wwx twice as fast.
omg, my least favourite genre of mdzs fic. the sects opposed wei wuxian because he was powerful and uncontrollable, because he insulted them, because he aligned himself with outsiders. revealing his corelessness wouldn't suddenly have made him a misunderstood hero, just an easier target; providing a motive for his use of demonic cultivation doesn't make it any less dangerous & the revelation that resentful energy can elevate a non-cultivator above a cultivator's level would present a genuine political threat to the sects' power. you mentioned it already but it would not erase the other grievances the sects have with him and just cement him as even more unnatural.
also. i do have to mention that while a lot of these aus seem to care a great deal about letting jiang cheng save the day and be a good brother, most of them just make him look... way worse. jiang cheng jumping to wei wuxian's defense the moment he realises wei wuxian gave him his core means that jiang cheng was always able to support wei wuxian, but didn't think he deserved it enough. and if wei wuxian explaining himself to the sects would earn their support and acceptance, he owes his canonical death to jiang cheng, who effectively isolated him from the cultivation world by lying to him and lying about him to the sects.
for wei wuxian, at that time, a golden core reveal is a huge gamble that for all he knows won't net him much more than shock and pity, and choosing to use his status as a shield was the safest play. he is not self-sabotaging or stupid for refusing to put himself and those under his protection at risk.

Am I the only one who doesn’t get why some (tw) are shitting on Haru and Rin separately just for the fact that they reciprocate each others feelings? Because it’s not the feelings they wanted them to reciprocate? Just curious because I'm new and recently entered the fandom. And since when miscommunication in between means that they don't deserve to be happy at the end? Because you're an idiot when it comes to love, doesn't mean you're a bad person. I came from chinese bl and it's weird to me.
Hehe welcome to the madness, perfect time to join! Yeah, tbh that's the thing in the fandom that always bugged me the most. The fact that some act like if you don't reciprocate someone's feelings, it makes you a bad person. I always found it incredibly cringy when ppl in real life for example make ppl feel guilty for not feeling the same way and make you feel like shit bc of it. I don't get why you have to apologize for that or feel bad, if you never ever gave him any hope or anything in the first place.
Nowdays it's thankfully a rare sight already in this fandom, bc most already grown and see perfectly what's truly healthy and unhealthy, it's just tbh only the same 3 accounts ppl keep sending me that are still on that, who also think that Haru is literally possessed in the last movie so I don't see the point of like arguing with ppl like this. It's just they're always getting extremely angry when Haru wants Rin as if it's his fault that he feels this way and always go about it like he is inconsiderate of Makoto's feelings. Implying that they're mad that he doesn't feel that way about Makoto, while Makoto does. I'm same as @tododeku-or-bust for example said here (idk what fandom brought this on, but just in general) also do not get what's appealing about this kind of relationships in the first place.
If they shipped it in terms of like it's mutual I'd get it, but they go on about how Rin or Haru are bad friends bc they're not in love with their best friends... like ?????? I didn't know you owe it to your friends to have romantic feelings for them.
In real life if you found out that your bestie feels that way for you while you don't reciprocate, it's a burden, that'll make you feel uncomfortable and at times guilty when you shouldn't technically feel that way. So putting on someone a burden of "I was pining for you all along", when you know they don't feel the same is giving me this feeling of cringe. So I personally do not get what's enjoyable at seeing it like that in Free. But to each their own kink lmao.
It's like... is Haru at fault for the fact that he was Ikuya's first love too? I do not get it really. Like he doesn't have to take responsibility for everyone who falls for him and he doesn't owe anyone to reciprocate their feelings. Even to Rin. Like if he didn't feel the same way for Rin, it wouldn't be his fault either. But since he does feel the same way for him, it's like... good, great, happy for them.
Like once again if someone believes that Makoto and Sousuke are unrequitedly in love with Rin and Haru, that's not rinharu fault. Haru literally never ever lead Makoto on EVER. He never ever did anything that would make Makoto believe that they're more than friends. He was always honest about everything. Like when Makoto thought that he went out to see him, but Haru just wanted to see the sunrise, he told him just that. He never encoraged anything, he refused to live with him and never wanted. I do not get why it's supposed to be his fault that he doesn't like his friend in that way. If Makoto has some unrequited feelings for him and decided to hang up on this, it's his own life choice in my opinion.
It's like saying that Onodera and Takano for example don't deserve to be together just because they unintentionally hurt each other and got separated for 10 years bc of misunderstanding. This argument is like typical Yokozawa life position aka "but I was there when he left you heartbroken for several years, that means you MUST pick me". As I've said before, that's just not how it fucking works. And just bc they couldn't explain things to each other normally, doesn't mean that they don't deserve be happy now. Being idiots is not a crime.
Or if you came from chinese bl, lets go "Guardian" for example. Zhu Hong also was on about how "why you love Shen Wei, not me, I always did everything for you and I was always there, I even wore heels bc you once said you liked those etc". Like he never asked her to do this, he never gave her any hope, he was beyond rude and open about the fact that he's not interested, he never did anything to make her think she had a chance since the beginning. Just bc she decided to dedicate her life to false hope that maybe one day something might change is not his fault. It was her choice. Why Yunlan should feel like shit bc of that I do not get personally.
I'm just buffled bc like Haru for example is the most caring about other ppl's pain person, but they call him selfish and rude bc of the way he is with Makoto at times, not even realising that it IS in fact what means being kind sometimes.. to not give someone a chance when you know you don't feel it. I was always saying this like since forever, being kind doesn't mean for example giving everyone second chances, loving everyone, wanting to be friends with anyone etc. In some situations it's not being kind, it's being stupid or even not being a good person. Once again... offering someone friendship after he openly dissed your friend and you see that he's not in any position to talk back is not kind. Or if someone cheats on you constantly, but you always forgive them it's also not you being kind. It's you being stupid. Sometimes you have to be harsh. It's for the greater good.
And like I saw several times stuff like someone under scenes where Rin has his eyes for Haru only, commenting like "oh great, look at Rin being inconsiderate of Sousuke's feelings again. Can't believe you guys find this romantic." I mean, if in their opinion Sousuke is in pain from being Rin's friend, he can end it, it's his choice. It's not Rin's fault that he thinks of him as just his friend. So thinking that Rin is an asshole bc each time he simply hangs out with Sousuke he's a selfish bitch is fucking insane. I'd feel extremely bad if my best friend was seeing it this way for example. It's like hella ugly.
This annoys me also bc of the fact that Rin, the person who at the age of 12 single-handedly saved his family from falling apart after his father's death, who's an amazing friend to Sousuke and did everything to make his happy after he found out about his trauma and always checks on him first and cries about his shoulder, who in the late evenings taught Rei to swim, when everyone else gave up already xD, who was looking after Nitori during his training, who pretends to walk the same road, just because he's scared to let Gou return alone in the evenings, the most amazing son and brother, is suddenly an asshole just because Haru is in love with him, but not with Makoto. I mean, thats just... huh? Like I dont mind you ship what you want to ship, it's like to each their own crayons for real. But like dissing them and call them selfish just bc they only see their friends as friends and don't want anything more is weird to me.
As for the fact that bc of the misunderstanding they don't deserve to be happy, that's just idiotic. I mean, lets punish Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan too just bc Lan Zhan couldn't voice his real feelings back then and bc WWX misunderstood him. Lets ship WWX with Wen Ning instead. Nezumi is cancelled, he doesn't deserve to be with Shion. He left him. Takano should stay with Yokozawa, Onodera is trash. Wu Xie is trash for wanting to be with Zhang Qiling too. It doesn't matter why he leaves, it only matters that he always does. I can't believe he doesn't see that Pangzi is there with him all along xD. What an ungrateful trash of a human being I can't even.
And anyways btw both Rin and Haru are not ideal human beings in any way (otherwise I wouldn't love them this much tbh xD). But their flaws are definitely not what for example mh shippers usually blame them for. You can argue about their other imperfections easily. Like being stupidly stubborn for example. I won't point fingers here, Haru lolz. Or literally anything else.
My point is you can find what to trash them for logically, if you wanna. Do it smartly tho. Otherwise you make your ship look bad.
And I once again say what wise person said about his relationships and about the fact that not being able with someone he loves hurt him and 'why is he doing this to himself' he answered: "it's not on him. my happiness and my pain is for me to handle". Everyone decides for themselves. This is why for example Haru was so broken about voicing this to Rin and didn't have any intentions to tell him that in the first place. Bc it's not right, if you're not sure that it's requited. Technically he has no right to blame Rin for making him fall in love with him and then leaving in the first place. It's not Rin's fault really, that he made him feel what he feels for him, it's ultimately Haru's problem. That's why he feels has no right to blame him in the first place. I mean, he doesn't know that Rin feels the same, that means saying to him "you break my heart each time you leave" and making him feel bad about it is technically wrong. That's why Haru to himself said "no, please, don't say such things to him". Everyone for himself decides who deserves your 5, 7, 800 or 10000 years of your pain. It's your decision. It's your life. If Haru feels like Rin is worth it, then you have no say in that matter really. The only reason we call Rin an idiot or Haru an idiot is because we know they feel the same, so we can. But blame someone else for not feeling what you're feeling is not right.
So like even if you feel like Makoto and Sousuke have feelings for their friends, blaming Haru and Rin for having feelings for each other and not for them is beyond weird. And there's nothing wrong with putting someone you love first, every bro/sis gets it. You can say bros before hoes all you want, but like Lan Zhan might just drop his bro for his hoe, if he was given a choice. Would it make him a bad person? The fact that Wu Xie chose to save Xiaoge before Pangzi makes his a bad person? My point is it's not all that easy.
I just feel like many ppl in this fandom are very weird about many things. Either because they do not get what it's like to go through some things or maybe they just do not get that no matter how cheesy this sounds love is not that simple. I mean, for example not all selfish is bad, sometimes like in Haru's case for example not being selfish is also bad. Bc if he finally asks for what he wants, he will make both himself AND Rin happy.
To be angry at Rin bc of the aftermath of his father's death and s1 I never had it in me, after knowing everything and how adults handled it. If some of Sousuke's fans bc of Yakusoku and the fact that Rin found his salvation in Haru bc he helped him to move forward after getting his family out of this hell alone and that Haru was the safe haven that made him happy in this moment of his life, want to trash Rin for the fact that he "neglected" Sousuke, its like your opinion. I personally do not get it. Rin doesn't owe Sousuke anything. It's not his fault again that Haru's existence helped him to feel better.
Just like not everyone will get why Haru in 1x12 was so happy about the fact that he could help Rin. To be that special somebody for someone who can "save" you in moments of your life like this, especially if you love them is an incredible feeling. And no, your bestie isn't always the person for this job, no. I don't see why people do not get that I guess, that's all. But we all have our own opinion on everything, so...
We same as you do not get it since forever, but its like it is what it is in this fandom. I personally just have another life position on stuff, so I'm very far from that point of view they have.

i have neglected the boys and they don't even get alone time in this one because the endgame is wangxianxuan. copy pasted directly from me going off on discord at 3AM
okay. AU, LQR is a uhhhhhhhhhhh-- and WWX is his PA who, to LQR's misfortune, is very good at his job even if he has unorthodox methods.
He also can't complain, because it makes his nephew more interested in working the family business. He understands, he knew WWX's mother, she was hot, he looks like her, and LWJ has eyes and can see that WWX is hot. He however does not tell LWJ that he's pretty sure the PA situation is temporary because WWX is engaged to the Jin Heir, and uhhhh fuckin engaged to the Jin Heir
Tumblr media
Okay so JZX was set up to marry JYL, and then he's with the boys and he's gotta play up that toxic masculinity and is like "yeah, i'm not ready for marriage, settling down at my prime? yeah right, i gotta plow" and JYL and JC are in the next booth like "wow" and WWX, who has nothing to lose, is like "i'm going to get his ass." and punches him in the face before JYL and JC can be like "no we gotta be polite for image's sake."
so the engagement is off, and before JZX can realize that he just missed out on the best thing he would have ever had, JYL, Bi Queen, starts dating WQ. So now JZX just wants to apologize because he is genuinely sorry.
WWX sees him pacing outside her apartment building one day when he's coming over for soup and he's like "what, you didn't even get her apology flowers? you're a disgrace." and JZX is like "well what flowers does she like" and WWX is like "you don't even know her favorite flowers. pathetic" and JZX is like "okay if this is how you're going to act, you're coming with me to the florist and i'm going to gage your reaction to every flower i pick up"
he ends up buying all the flowers and WWX laughs at him. He apologizes to JYL and she feeds him soup as well. on their way out, arms full of flowers because there weren't enough vases in the apartment. They're playfully insulting each other and before they part wwx is like "if you ever make my sister sad again, i'll seduce you, make you buy me a car, and then i'll hit you with it." and he puts a flower behind JZX's ear, and JZX has his Bi awakening right then and there.
blah blah blah, now they're engaged. WWX doesn't wear his ring because he's afraid he'll be stupid and take it off one day and he'll look away for a second and it'll be gone. So LWJ has no idea he's engaged. He tries his best to try and ask WWX out but LQR always manages to interrupt. LWJ doesn't find out until there's a big business banquet or whatever and he's talking to fellow business heir JZX. He doesn't keep up with the lives of other fancy boys, he knows JZX is engaged to someone from the Jiang Family. and then JZX's arm candy comes in, and LWJ is like "o h?"
Tumblr media
and WWX is like "Lan Zhan Lan Zhan! I didn't know you knew my Peacock." and Lan Zhan is like "mn." and JZX is like "A-Ying tells me you're funny now? When did that happen?" and Lan Zhan is like "Probably after you left the room." and WWX is wheezing, but JZX takes this as "as soon as you leave, i am going to sweep him off his feet and there's nothing you can do about it" because LWJ's hot, he has eyes, he knows.
Tumblr media
so now JZX is coming to the Lan Office nearly every day for lunch and LWJ is trying to think about how morally bad it would be to steal WWX from JZX.
LQR regrets hiring WWX so much, but he really can find his books quicker thanks to WWX.
Tumblr media
also. LXC has glasses.

Hey love your little xicheng ficlets!
Could you possibly write me one in which Jin Ling gets injured or sth. On a night hunt and JC may be angry but most of all worried so when a dizzy and half passed out JL asks him to sing to him like old times, he (JC) ignores WWX "but he doesn't have a musical bone in his body?!?!" And sings to him? And a certain sect leader fresh out of seclusion falls in love even more to the point he just HAS to confess ?

thank you for being my first ask! this is for you! <3  .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

“Shit, grab him!” Jiang Cheng yells above the flurry of swords. He doesn’t have time to fully check on his nephew when he turns back to whip Zidian blindly in his grasp. The snake demon is merciless, having hunted the souls of too many and tormented the outskirts of a small rural town for too long.
The Jiang Clan was adamant about ending it tonight.
It was supposed to be a quick night hunt, great practice for younger cultivators. One of the biggest reasons why Jiang Cheng had allowed his nephew’s presence in such events. Everything had been set, they had more than enough manpower, there were other dependable (he guesses, Wei Wuxian is dependable, Lan Wangji sure is though) chaperones and Jin Ling had even invited his little friends along.
But Jiang Cheng had over looked one small detail; that being his nephew’s incredibly stupid stubborn personality who would rather die, then miss a planned night hunt because of a fever.
The teen had done such a good job at hiding his illness until their current battleground, where Jiang Cheng had just seen him fall to the ground.
Jiang Cheng moves to the rear as Lan Wangji and his husband take the front. Wei Wuxian uses Chenqing to play a subduing melody as Lan Wanji deals the final blow to rid the creature once and for all. Jiang Cheng doesn’t see it, he’s too busy running to the small group of kids surrounding his nephew.
“Hey, Jin Ling, look at me. Don’t be like this...”
“Do you think that the cut is poisoned,” Zizhen’s voice carries over nervously.
Jiang Cheng’s stomach rolls at the notion and he nearly barrels into the group if it weren’t for their quick reflexes. He finds Jin Ling sat on a small rock, hunched over as he holds his arm. His bow is laid lopsided besides him, something already uncharacteristic. When Jiang Cheng kneels down to face him, large drops of sweat dot his red flushed face.
“A-Ling, hey, do you know where you are?” Jiang Cheng asks, holding his nephew’s shoulder. It takes longer than Jiang Cheng would have liked for Jin Ling to notice him. When the teen looks up, his eyes are bleary.
“Jiu-jiu,” Jin Ling calls out softly. Jiang Cheng bites his lip, holding onto Jin Ling’s face as to keep him from falling straight into Jiang Cheng’s chest.
“Stay awake for Jiu-jiu, you hear me? I have to check your wound. At least do that for me Jin Ling,” Jiang Cheng bites out, shifting the teen to lean into his arms as he checks the gash. It takes a bit of coaxing to get Jin Ling to release the hold on his upper arm. Only when Sizhui manages to gently pry his fingers away does he see the gash that’s marred there. It’s an ugly thing despite how small it is. From the looks of it, it seems shallow, which is a blessing. But Jing Lin’s forehead feels too warm against the bottom of Jiang Cheng’s throat.
“Jiang Cheng,”
He looks up at the call of his name, finally noticing his brother’s quick approach with Lan Wangji in tow. He’s also surprised to notice another silhouette of white besides the invited Lan.
“What’s happened to Jin Ling? Why does he look so bad?” Wei Wuxian immediately questions as he kneels down to look at Jin Ling.
“He had a fever before he came out here with us. Then during the fight the snake demon managed to nab him on the arm” Jingyi quickly explains, clutching his sword tightly.
“No fever, fine...”
“Fine?” Jiang Cheng almost roars. But Jin Ling’s warm breath is becoming labored and Jiang Cheng is more fearful than he likes to feel.
“We’re going to back to Lotus Pier now,” Jiang Cheng says, already beginning to get a sturdy grip on Jin Ling when he feels a gentle hand on his shoulder. Jiang Cheng looks up to meet Lan Xichen’s worried eyes.
“Let me check on his wound again. We should bandage it up so he won’t lose anymore blood.” Lan Xichen suggests. Jiang Cheng wants to protest; his nephew is as ill as he is, isn’t this enough of a reason for him to teleport back to Lotus Pier?
“He’s hurt like this--”
“Please, let me help,” Lan Xichen pleads, eyes locking with Jiang Cheng.
Let me help you
~
The small fire that they make warms the mild night. Everyone is huddled closely to conserve warmth.
Jiang Cheng is sat with Jin Ling closest to the fire. Lan Xichen is kneeled on the opposite side, wrapping a tight bandage around Jin Ling’s wound. With the fire crackling before them, Jiang Cheng places his hand on Jin Ling’s forehead once again. His skin is still hot, but not as flushed as it had been when he had just come from the fight. Leaned in his Uncle’s arms, Jin Ling almost looks relaxed.
Jiang Cheng’s eyes roam around the fire, catching Lan Wanji and Wei Wuxian sharing a deep blue Lan cape. Near the other side of the circle, the three teens sit close together, legs and shoulders brushing. Jiang Cheng tries to ignore the lingering looks that pass over Jin Ling’s exhausted form.
“Jiu-Jiu” Jin Ling asks.
“Jiu-Jiu’s here,” Jiang Cheng responds immediately. He feels his nephew let out a tired sigh.
“Can you sing for me? Like when I was small?” Jin Ling asks eyes blinking open to catch a glimpse of the orange firelight before closing again. Jiang Cheng looks down, hoping that the teen is only sleep talking. But he’s surprised to meet with eyes wide open, imploring him.
“A-Ling,” Jiang Cheng starts, but Jin Ling continues to stare.
“A-Ling, don’t tease your Uncle like that. He doesn’t have a musical bone in his body,” Wei Wuxian tells Jin Ling. Jin Ling’s gaze moves from Jiang Cheng’s face to sleepily shift over to his other Uncle.
“You haven’t heard him sing before,” Jin Ling replies, before leaning deeper into Jiang Cheng’s embrace. Jiang Cheng huffs at his nephew, warmed by something different than Jin Ling’s body temperature.
“Sing Jiu-Jiu, please” Jin Ling asks, one last time. Jiang Cheng sighs, at his nephew. But he concedes. The fire crackles, sending small floating lights up to the night sky. In the soft pause, Jiang Cheng sings.
Long nights by the hearth are warm in love And the day smiles at the dawn that renews Stand here with me I hold you Stay here with me I cherish you
When Jiang Cheng looks down to check on his nephew, he’s satisfied to see that Jin Ling has truly fallen asleep. When Jiang Cheng looks up again, he catches many pairs of widened eyes.
“Your voice is so good!”
“I can’t believe you can actually sing!”
“Can you do another song?”
“Marry me,”
Jiang Cheng’s head whips to the side towards the final voice. Lan Xichen stares at him, eyes deep and bright and amber in the reflected firelight. Jiang Cheng looks at Lan Xichen incredulously; he’s rendered completely speechless.
“I--”
“Let me court you. Let me serenade you and show you how you have always made me feel,” Lan Xichen says, quickly, hurriedly. It is so un-Lan of him that Jiang Cheng can’t quite believe it. The rest of the group falls to the background.
“I don’t want you to think that this has come out of nowhere. I have...I have always had my affections. And tonight has showed me, just another reason for my admiration for you, Jiang Wanyin”
Jiang Cheng sucks in a soft breath, looking down at Jin Ling if just to have something to look at other than the person beside him.
The quiet that surrounds everyone is not even interrupted by the crackling hearth.
“Can you please...can you please let me...be with you?” Lan Xichen asks quietly.
Another pause, bated breath underlying.
“...You can try...” Jiang Cheng answers, though he doesn’t find the strength to meet eyes with Lan Xichen as he continues, “Be with me.”
Jiang Cheng finally looks up to meet Lan Xichen’s eyes, bashful but glowing in the warmth of the fire.
And Jiang Cheng doesn’t forget to hush Wei Wuxian when he wolf whistles too loudly, mindful of Jin Ling’s restful slumber.
