Sunny didn’t recognize Tubbo. The man in front of her was wearing her Pa’s face, he had the same smile lines and eye color, and he even had the same chronic bedhead as her Pa.

But this mad had a vacant stare in otherwise warm eyes. He had a tight stance that was ready to spring into action. This man carried the smell of blood and gasoline instead of oil and eath. This man was barking orders and slamming doors while telling her to keep safe.

This man was not her Pa, but she could still see him beneath the layers that this man wore. She could hear it in his voice beneath the growl of the other man’s orders and the rumble of the chainsaw. She could see the way his eyes softened when he looked at her and how his cold fingers would tighten around hers when she grabbed his hand. 

This man was not her Pa, but someone her Pa became.

lou’s character work is always incredible but his choices for deli are so interesting and only work in this setting with this timeskipping plotline. starting out as this idealistic and driven young man who’s also a little inexperienced and naive and turning him gradually into a bloodthirsty warlord completely consumed by his own ambition to the point where he’s lost himself completely and the only way he can weather his transformation is by finding a savage joy in it is so appropriate for the ravening war setting its a tragedy but its inevitable that war turn him into this and the worst part is that he’s not even special. this is happening all over the world to all kinds of people because there are forces bigger than them that they desperately want to control and some of them, like amethar, are forced into it rather than following their ambition into that despair, but plenty of people, likely including belizabeth, focaccia, basha, and definitely karna in a different (although maybe more fucked up) way are following that exact same path

an angle that i think is underexplored with wkx is that he is very unpleasant to be around for the first third of the show because he is a fake, self-righteous gossipper. he talks shit about people behind their back with an insufferable, righteous air. he avoids vulnerability and lifts his voice to make clear he holds the monopol on being morally correct. ive seen him put into queen bee and mean girl clique leader roles but i think rather than this, he is much less self-contained and less self-aware as he is convinced he is. in media, the queen bee or the leader of a mean girl clique is calculatated, whip smart, self aware, and unapogoletic about it. she doesnt want to change, she likes what shes doing. she knows shes mean; she enjoys it. wkx thinks he is the underdog, but he has too much power to be the underdog anymore. hes like a white feminist girlboss thinking he is being oppressed when in actuality, he is on his best way to becoming what he seeks to call out. in our witch hunt purity culture public humiliation perfomative activism era, this is incredibly on the point
