ngl i was so confused for the last few mins of the episode. like what was going on?

oh same anon same. like i wasn’t particularly mad or disappointed about how anything went plot-wise, that was fine. I guess i was just expecting the climax to be… bigger?? they set up this grand conspiracy for the whole show just for it to end like that?? it’s not that i think the resolution is anticlimactic either, just delivered in a weird way. like if thua had his whole moment and it wasn’t all brushed away as some ‘student film stunt’ and then we actually got to see the characters deal with the fall out, bc we kinda did with akk having his emotional moments and ayan getting it all out in front of chadok, i more mean thua dealing with any consequences of what he did. he did all this stuff and then 10 seconds later they’re all… fine??? playing happy families making a film???? idk it just seems weird that kan and wat were so conformational with akk for what he did and then they just apparently let that go, then no one stays mad at thua, nor does anyone have anything to say about namo, when people finding out the truth was built up to be such a huge thing this whole time. and that’s what i wanna see, I wanna see the fallout and anger and them reconciling, even if it is rushed, i still wanna see it. characters can’t act like this and then be fine in the next scene, it just ruins continuity more than anything. plus i feel like the whole outing thing was just… not right?? im not mad that they did it, but for a universe that clearly has homophobia and in an environment where all this conformist shit is so clear, it’s not that i want to see that, it’s more i would’ve liked to have seen akk having to deal with that. being outed when you yourself are not 100% comfortable with your sexuality is a big and difficult thing and it would’ve been so interesting to see akk deal with that. but no, it’s like they said actually we’ve done enough character growth we’re ending here it was nice while it lasted. so yeah, the ep just had this weird vibe. no part of the resolution felt like it resolved anything and yes i fucking love seeing them all happy and being sweet but it still doesn’t change the fact that it doesn’t feel right. it really does feel like i missed half an ep and yet when i go back to find it, it just isn’t there.

#idk im feeling weird about it #it’s so hard to be mad at this show bc I love it so much #and as much as I would’ve loved a huge climax where akk gets mad and leads a rebellion against the system and it’s big and dramatic and bold #i get that this small resolution is trying to show that at the heart of it it was all about humans struggling with their emotions and trying #to find a place and doing what they can to stay afloat and how hard it is to turn the tide #i like that message that this isn’t some fight against the bad people it’s people perpetuating badness bc they’re hurt and they don’t know #what else to do #I like that it tells us that the hardest thing is to break that chain but that you can do it if you find the goodness in yourself and #others and the kindness to forgive yourself #but then to cold cut to besties making movies I just????#like fuck get mad at thua!!!!! have a moment to argue and a moment to breathe and reflect and a moment to come back together and apologise #and find a way to move forward. NOT THIS #this makes no sense!!!!#it’s like I’m enjoying myself bc it’s so cute and fun but if you just chuck me into Disneyland yeah I’ll enjoy it but I’ll also be hella #confused as to how I got there #bc that’s what it’s like it’s like being at a theme park riding all the rollercoasters but I didn’t pay my entry fee im not supposed to be #here and I didn’t earn it but it’s fun so?????#idk I don’t wanna be disappointed but it just didn’t do what I expected so #but thanks anon for letting me rant I needed to get this off my chest #the eclipse

answering this publicly hope thats ok! cant do a readmore im on mobile *****asteroid city spoilers below beware*****

i dont remember anyones names so this is gonna sound partly unhinged. okay so the edward norton playwright and jason schwartzman actor (not character, in the black and white parts) are lovers right. tbh i thought this was kind of a gag and forgot about it. but later we find out that the playwright died 6 months into the production. i didnt make the connection that THAT’s why the actor-jason has to suddenly leave the stage and freaks out backstage about how he’s not sure he’s Doing it right. hes not talking about acting!! because he himself is literally grieving his lover while he’s playing a character who’s grieving his wife written by his lover so obviously it’s too much!!! actor-jason is trying to find meaning in his death through his writing but there isnt any meaning in death [gerris drinkwater voice] which is what the play is trying to say anyway. he doesnt think he’s performing grief right even in his own life!!! (and tbh it’s the 50s so he wouldnt be able to perform grief publicly anyway!!!!) the play starts with a car accident… anyone would search for some hidden meaning there, some sign…. so when he talks to margot robbie outside it’s not really about finding the CHARACTER’s motivations it’s about the actor himself being able to process the playwright’s death! and adrien brody director was probably also dealing with that too (him and norton seemed to be good buddies) so the whole “sleeping backstage” thing gets a bit sadder maybe? maybe everyone else got this in the theatre and im just stupid lol but crazy making stuff to me!!! the whole story is about sublimated gay grief that cannot be expressed?!?!

the tweet that caught me onto this was here which posits that the playwright’s death was a suicide but i think that’s pretty stupid and unnecessary because the whole thing about the play asteroid city is that death is random and meaningless. im pretty sure that’s what the alien represents— a shocking and absurd event that isnt outright evil or menacing, not something anyone can predict or make sense of, it’s just a thing that happens to you out of nowhere, it doesnt mean anything. he’s a little black figure, he’s death! giving and taking! aagh

I need to hop back into my transformers bullshit for just a moment because I don't think they've had much interaction in canon, but I think it'd be really really funny if Tarn was actually terrified of Starscream.

Like, I dunno if MTMTE/IDW canon has confirmed Starscream's immortal spark for that particular series, but I'm going to assume it carries over. If so, it'd make Tarn's power basically useless against him.

In my ideal headcanon, Tarn got sick of Starscream's shit at some point and went against Megatron to try to murder him. He tried to do this subtly using his voice only for it to 100% not work even a little bit. He would've had this whole build up where he got Starscream alone and was attempting to be a dramatic bitch about the whole thing and build up to the murder and then-

And then it just doesn't work and there's a really awkward pause where Starscream is looking around kind of expecting something to happen when literally nothing does. Tarn is trying to keep a normal conversation going now while also attempting the murder again and again just for it to literally do nothing. Eventually Starscream gets sick of him being weird and walks out judging the guy.

It'd be so fucking funny particularly because Starscream having an immortal spark is generally totally unknown, so Tarn would have to assume that Starscream had found some way to render his ability useless, which is terrifying. Tarn is now extremely worried that Starscream somehow had a spy and found out what he was planning to do ahead of time. He might've even been able to get something into Tarn's head somehow to know his plan this well. Clearly that level of genius must be part of why Megatron keeps him around. Tarn was a fool for having attempted to disobey, and Starscream was clearly not a problem he could solve like this. What if Starscream reports this clear disobedience to Megatron? Tarn just tried and failed to kill the second in command! Starscream would have every right to demand his execution if he so desired, or save this as blackmail!

Tarn is just out of his mind spinning conspiracy theories and getting super high levels of paranoia about Starscream. Just doing whatever he can to not have to be in the same place as the guy. He runs under the assumption he's being blackmailed by Starscream for his attempt and does what he can to not cross the seeker.

Meanwhile from Starscream's perspective, Tarn showed up and had a very weird conversation where he kept raising his voice at random times and then nothing happened. Then the guy freaked out and got even more weird about it. He has no idea why this happened. He has no idea that Tarn is hiding from him. He thought it was weird and stopped thinking about it after a few days. Starscream's minding his own business and mostly forgot about this entire thing after two weeks meanwhile Tarn is having a mental breakdown about it for years.

Jason? Actually has no clue when he comes back to the living why he stole one of the Joker’s older names, nor why the Pit goes so angry when he thinks about Robin- HisTitleHisFraidNameFromFamily-

Now the Pit? Not a baby semi-near the cusp of adulthood, in fact is Very Old even if it’s more hivemind-esque then a full on realms entity. Very offended for the Baby it was gifted, because who takes that from a literal infant?!

Oh! Oh that’s another baby! Hm, change of plans, obviously the baby is also its. Because while adult ghosts trying to forcefully take a Name is a direct challenge? A ghostling- or in this case liminal- doing it is an open invitation for adoption.

I love your artwork so much! Your colors are so vibrant and none of the white speckles in the paper ever shows, its so impressive and I really dig it! I was wondering if you use any sort of blending medium? Like baby oil or anything? Either way, I really enjoy looking at your artwork and I'm always excited to see whatever you'll make next

I use a colorless blender (prismacolor, which is wax-based so baby oil probably wouldnt work) but my scanner is also rly bad about picking up white specks in a way photographing the art with my phone isnt, so I usually have to do some digital editing to get rid of them as well.

I do this by duplicating the layer, setting the one on top to "darken," and using the mixer brush to blend out the white spots + just use the eyedropper tool to select the color of that area (needs to be a slightly lighter shade of it) and color over the white spots with the brush tool

i edited a small bit of the original scan to show what i mean

Whumpee waking up in a hospital or at home, restrained for their own safety.

Maybe they're sick, maybe they are tired and delirious, maybe just horribly thoroughly conditioned. They don't even sit up, just pull a little on the light restraints and look around wildly. They whimper with anxiety at their new surroundings. Maybe they are scared of unfamiliar places, or think they are still back with whumper.

Caretaker is quick to the rescue, yet ineffective and inefficient. No matter what they say, it's like whumpee doesn't even hear them. They just keep making themself smaller, freezing up, watching for threats, babbling and stuttering out words that make no sense.

They are so confused they start crying, and caretaker's heart breaks apart at the sight.
