AITA for being truthful with my husband's coworker?
I (23f) have a husband (25m) who is very close with his coworkers. They come over to our house a lot for DND, holidays, etc.
One of his coworkers, N (27m) and I were close. N is very charismatic and flirts with EVERYONE. My husband legitimately did not care, I've even showed him me and N's texts before which look the same as my husband and N's- yes some flirting but nothing actually serious. Most of it is joking
Well, N started dating someone they all work with, J. I had never met J, I have 0 clue her age. The first time we met, I tried to be inviting as there isn't a lot of girls around except those of us that are married or who already are coworkers. She seemed shy, maybe a bit socially awkward.
Then the second time, I caught her pointing at me and whispering to her best guy friend and they both started laughing. It felt like I was in high school, but I ignored it. N had been out of the room. This was at MY house.
We've met a handful of times since, and by a handful I mean literally 5 times. Every time she does not say a word to me. I've tried talking to her and she'll blankly stare at me. So I've stopped. If she doesn't want to be friends that is her choice.
Except my husband caught her vagueposting about me on social media. N doesn't have social media fyi. She basically posted the exact outfit I was wearing, something that happened, and then put "what a dumb situation caused by someone stupid, but at least the outfit was cute". She also replied to a comment saying i was flirting with her man and a homewrecker, which is why I brought up how N is because he is like that with EVERYONE. So I haven't liked her since because, sure she can be upset with N and me joking and "flirting" even if N is like that with every coworker and even my husband, but to post about me and call me stupid just seemed petty and rude
I asked N if she was uncomfortable with our interactions, because J had me blocked on social media and I couldn't ask her, and N said she shouldn't be because he treats me no different then anyone else.
Well, any group hang outs she doesn't come to. There is always an excuse, and I dont even want to invite her because of what she said about me. Except for DND which I am not a part of (I do enjoy it, but the way they play is so fast paced and im dyslexic and not good at math, I have a better time watching then playing so I do other things while they play, it also gives my husband time to enjoy a hobby he likes alone). Anytime J is over for DND she ignores me or whispers to her guy friend when I'm around. N is still N, flirting with everyone (me, my husband, the guy who plays an orc, J, etc.). I dont even think he is intentionally flirting i think he is just very charismatic and some stuff he says can be taken that way
Well most recently N invited us to his house so me and my husband went. J came home started talking to everyone there and then saw us and went to her room (N, J, and two other people live together). She didn't come back out the entire time me and my husband were there, but I found out later she came out once we were gone.
N texted me asking my opinion of J. I was truthful and said, and I quote "Well she seems smart and she is pretty, but I don't really know her. I don't think she likes me, which to each their own. I wish she was a bit more polite about things when she is at my house. Cant really speak on someone i dont know except that shes a bit cold and not who i had thought you would be with.. Otherwise, as long as your happy, what does my opinion matter?" To which N replied "so you have a bigger opinion" and then blocked me.
My husband agrees with me but N is his best friend, they haven't discussed it at work. I have seen J recently, we ran into each other at a store, and she called me a bitch (I guess N told her what I said). AITA?
What are these acronyms?

"Nat you're not going to believe what I just saw! It has single handedly made my week- whoa!" You exclaimed as you threw your hands up and backed against the nearest wall.
"Who are you?" Demanded the blonde from the other end of her gun. You glanced frantically between her hand gun and her stone cold grey eyes, not knowing which you should be more afraid of.
"Y/n." You answered shakily, your mouth and throat suddenly feeling like sandpaper.
"Yelena!" Natasha shouted as she came into the living room. "Put your gun down you сумасшедшая сука (crazy bitch)!" Yelena hesitated as she gave you the once over and slowly lowered her weapon. You didn't fail to notice how she kept it in her hands until Natasha snatched it away.
"Hey!" She argued and tried to grab it back.
"You get gun privileges back when you stop pointing them at my friends." Natasha said as she put it in the safe under the kitchen counter.
"She didn't knock!" Yelena defended with a thick accent.
You were still stood awkwardly against the wall as you watched the interaction. You had no idea who the blonde was much less why she had acted like a paranoid guard dog. Not that you were offended, being friends with someone who had a lot of protective friends and coworkers meant this had happened more than you wanted to admit. JARVIS actually had some very over the top weapons pointed at you twice.
"I don't knock when I go to her place." Natasha pointed out. You smiled nervously at the blonde when she looked over at you again.
"Well as your new roommate it seems like something I should know."
New roommate? Natasha hated the idea of a roommate and had always been very vocal about it. It was why she insisted on having her own apartment rather than living in at the Avengers compound.
You glanced around and couldn't see any moving boxes or suitcases or really anything that indicated anyone else was living there. Either Yelena had already packed or she just wanted to keep all her personal things to herself.
"Temporary roommate." Natasha corrected making the blonde huff. "Who still hasn't gotten the groceries." Yelena mumbled something under her breath in Russian as she trudged towards the door. She glanced your way once then looked back as if second guessing you. She narrowed her eyes slightly and you fidgeted on the spot, feeling nervous under her gaze.
"What did you see?" She asked.
"I'm sorry?" You replied, not knowing where the question came from.
"What did you want to tell Natasha about." You stared at her blankly for a second before you suddenly realised what she meant.
"Oh! I saw a man walking seven ferrets." You said with a fond smile as you remembered the way their leads were getting caught up as the scrambled over each other. Yelena stared back at you. "Seven is a lot." You said. She still didn't seem to get it. "I like ferrets." You mumbled as you felt embarrassed.
She didn't say anything as she looked you over one more time and opened the door to leave, shutting it firmly behind her. You released a breath you didn't know you had been holding once the door clicked shut.
"Seven?" Natasha teased with a smirk as put some toast in the toaster. You grumbled as you walked over to the kitchen island and leant against it.
"She's intense." You commented and whipped your head around to the door, afraid she would walk back in.
"She's my sister." Natasha said casually.
"Sister? What?! Since when did you- Sister?!" Natasha chuckled at your reaction and shrugged simply.
"It's complicated."
"Everything with you is." You fired back. "Look I'll tell you our life story later." She waved off. You had known Natasha for years and considered each other your closest friends. You told her everything but you understood early on that there was a lot about her life she couldn't talk about. Whether it was because it could endanger you to know or it was simply to painful to recall, there would always be something.
"And I'm sorry about her wanting to shoot you. She's a lot." Natasha sighed, clearly tired. She had been away for months and you guessed she had found Yelena at some point during that mission. She had only been back a week and clearly needed a break. You wondered if she would finally take Fury up on his promise of a vacation.
"She's just protective." You shrugged. "Like someone else I know." You eyed the redhead with a smile. Yelena honestly seemed nothing short of terrifying to you, but you weren't going to admit that to your friend who would remind you of it every chance she got.
"Trust you to defend someone who put a gun on you." Natasha rolled her eyes and pushed a hot drink towards you.
"She seems nice." That wasn't the right word and given the look Natasha gave you she agreed. "Witty?" You tried. Natasha pulled a face in disagreement and you sighed in defeat. "Whatever, she's cute though." You thought aloud. Natasha shot you a warning look.
"Don't go crushing on my sister, y/n." She said with a serious edge to her tone. You laughed at her sudden shift and fell down on her sofa to grab the remote to start binging the shows Natasha had missed with you.
"I wouldn't dream of it."
*
It was a Friday night when you saw the blonde next. The bar you worked at was surprisingly quiet for the day but you didn't mind at all. Less people meant less chance of having to deal with a drunken fight. Not that that ever really happened there.
You worked in a small bar that had been running since long before you were born. It wasn't the most out there establishment and combined with it's location on the quieter, arguably more sketchy, parts of the city, it wasn't massively popular. In fact, everyone who showed up at the bar you recognised instantly, lest the rare groups of people who stumbled upon the building. No one who went there was all that talkative, but you had come to know each of them over the years.
It wasn't that the bar itself was sketchy. It wasn't involved in illegal gambling or drug dealings. It was just that it seemed to remind people of home. You had alcohols there that you just couldn't find in shops or other bars. Behind the bar was everything from Mexico's brightest palomas to Russia's strongest vodka. The latter was what had drawn Natasha to your worn down place of work the first time you met her. While she didn't like to be reminded of her past in Russia, like a couple other customers you had, she couldn't deny she missed the booze. So you guessed you shouldn't have been surprised to see Yelena joining her that night.
"Just give it a chance will you." Natasha scolded her younger sister in a hushed voice. You smiled at the encounter as the pair came towards the bar. Everything the redhead had been able to tell you about her time away was evident from the way the siblings interacted. It really hadn't taken them long to fall back into the squabbling sisters role, like they hadn't ever been apart.
Yelena grumbled something in Russian as she glanced around the bar, her eyes soon landing on yours and just as unreadable as the last time you saw her. The memory had been playing a lot in your head.
"Hi again." You smiled at her before turning your attention to your friend. "The usual?"
"For this one too." Natasha nodded to her sister as she sat down on a stall, soon followed by Yelena.
You took two shot glasses from the shelf and put them infront of the sisters and opened a bottle of Natasha's favourite bottle. You filled the both to the brim and put the bottle on the counter, knowing the redhead wanted it there. Natasha wasn't really a regular drinker, but when she did enduldge herself she didn't seem to have a limit. You had never once seen her drunk.
Natasha didn't hesitate in tilting her head back with the glass at her lips and didn't flinch when she swallowed the drink. Yelena rolled her eyes but copied anyway.
You carried on with drying some glasses and tried not to pay close attention to the blonde's reaction. You always loved the moment that customers realised they had found the drinks of their country. And as Yelena was harder to read, it took extra attention to detail to spot the moment of realisation. Natasha was watching for it too.
Yelena shrugged. She shrugged, clearly underwhelmed. "It's good." She commented. Natasha sighed dramatically and poured herself another shot as she grumbled about never being able to please her sister.
You went back to your duties properly and shook your head with a sigh. First time for everything. However when you risked a glanced at Yelena you saw a hint of a smile tug at the corner of her lips. You grinned to yourself, deciding then that you were determined to see a proper smile from the blonde at some point.
"What's got you smiling?" Natasha asked with a smirk.
"Am I not allowed to just smile, Tasha?" You quipped back.
"I take it your date went well." You groaned at the mention of the event.
"It actually really didn't." You huffed. It was actually one of the worst dates you had ever been on. You had been giggling like a school girl when Natasha told you a shield agent had eyes for you. The two of you exchanged numbers and arranged a date but it became clear to you pretty quickly she wasn't as ready to date again as she thought she was. "She's definitely not over her ex." She grimaced. Natasha hummed in thought.
"Okay, but do you want me to key her car?"
"She paid for my coffee!" You laughed, she always had to be dramatic with her protectiveness.
"Is that a no then?" Yelena asked. You honestly had no idea if she was joking or not.
"It's a no." You confirmed with a smile.
"I'm sure I can find you someone else." Natasha said confidently. You hummed in response and watched her pour another pair of shots.
"That's okay, Tasha. Maybe you should focus on yourself and a certain other redhead." You grinned. Natasha shot daggers at you as Yelena whipped her head around to stare at her sister.
"You have a boy..." She paused and scanned her sister quickly. "Girlfriend?" She concluded. You snickered and poured a drink for another customer, focusing on him momentarily as the pair bickered further.
"There is nothing going on with me and Wanda!" Natasha exclaimed.
"The magic one?" Yelena asked with interest.
"The magic one." You confirmed with a grin.
"What's she like?" The blonde continued as she leaned forward.
"She's better than you Сволоч (jerks)." Natasha mumbled as she rolled her eyes.
"And a total babe." You added and leapt back when the redhead went to hit you.
"Y/n!" You spun around at hearing a familiar voice. Joseph, your oldest regular, was making his way through the room towards the end of the bar, a fond smile etched into the deep lines on his face.
"Hey, pal." You smiled back and went to prepare his usual as he started to chat away at you.
"You never had anything with her?" Yelena asked boldly as she tilted her glass towards you.
"Y/n?" Natasha was surprised to say the least. She had never thought of you that way and no one else had ever asked about it. "No." She chuckled, thinking of all the times you had done everything in your power just to get her and Wanda alone in a room together. "Why'd you ask?"
"I just wondered." She said as she tapped her glass in thought, grey eyes watched you actively engage in conversation with the older man. Natasha narrowed her eyes at her sister.
"Right. Just don't crush on my best friend." She warned as she poured her sister another shot.
"You got it." She nodded and threw her head back as she downed the shot.
*
You ended up seeing Yelena quite frequently. Not only did she join Natasha in coming to the bar, but she seemed to always be there when you visited your friend too. She wasn't much of a small talker, you learned that quickly, but the passing moments you happened to be alone in each others company stopped being awkward quickly.
Yelena was surprisingly easy to get along with. Once you had found a common ground of interest (making fun of Natasha) you could easily carry a conversation with her, but she was still closed off - something you were expecting given her past. There was one evening that made that as clear as it could be.
"I'm just saying the Avengers would be very happy to have you!" Natasha exclaimed with a smile as you sat giggling next to her.
"I'm not going to be a hero." Yelena waved off. She had quickly began agitated when she had nothing to do. There had always been something. Some mission. Some test. Some important training. Anything. And now she was free from the Red Room Yelena was struggling to know what she could do. You could tell she wanted to have a meaningful role, you just doubted she was going to admit that.
"There's always bounty hunting." You suggested as you flicked through the thin file in your lap. Sometimes when Natasha was struggling with a particular case file she gave it to you for a new insight. You never got a name or any big details in the files and it still wasn't entirely within the rules, but sometimes you actually helped.
"He bled to death from the stabbing, then he was shot." You muttered to the redhead as you passed the file back. Turns out being a drop out med student was good for something. While Natasha was the best of the best, she was still human and there were things even she overlooked from time to time that you picked up on.
"That's a good one." Yelena agreed as she sipped on her beer, pondering the suggestion.
"But why even go for something like this at all?" You said. Natasha and Yelena gave you a confused glance.
"I'm sticking to what I'm good at." The blonde said slowly.
"I'm sure you're skill set expands beyond all...this." You waved your arms around aimlessly. "Was there anything you remember enjoying before?" You asked curiously and Yelena instantly stiffened.
"No." She said bluntly and put her bottle down on the table. "Bounty hunting sounds good, I'll look in to it." She said as she left the living room area and headed towards her room without a second glance.
Your throat felt dry suddenly as guilt washed over you. What kind of a question even was that? She was only a kid when it happened, part of you wondered if she even remembered the part of her life before the Red Room.
"She's okay." Natasha assured, as though reading your mind.
"I shouldn't have asked." You muttered.
"Probably not, but for what it's worth" Natasha started as she went to put the shield file away "I thought you were onto something."
So you never asked about her past again, but that didn't stop you from thinking about it. You wondered if it was something she and Natasha talked about, only able to confide in one another about the nightmares they shared. Or was it an unspoken thing, something that they kept in the deepest darkest parts of their minds? You didn't expect to ever get an answer to that question.
Not so deadly assassin: THERE'S A FUCKING RAT IN MY ROOM
Not so deadly assassin: come deal with it!!!
Not so deadly assassin: Y/N
Not so deadly assassin: oh NOW you have a life
Not so deadly assassin: if you don't come over in 5 minutes I'm killing it
You huffed as you took your phone out of your pocket to see who had been blowing up your phone. You skimmed over Natasha's messages and sent a quick threat telling her if she ended the rat's life you would end hers and sped up your walk.
Luckily you were only a few minutes away from Natasha's apartment and after running up the stairs a few at a time you knocked on your friend's door and licked your partly spilt drink off your hand with a curse.
Yelena opened the door and motioned for you to come inside, seeming unfazed by your arrival and no doubt knowing why you were there. "Is she okay?" You asked as you looked around frantically.
"She just got called away for a mission." Yelena said as she led you through the apartment to Natasha's room.
"I meant the rat." You mumbled and spotted it in the corner. Yelena snickered at your comment and leant against the door frame as she watched you slowly approach the rodent.
"How did it even get in here?" You asked as you cooed and held your hand out to the rat that considered you curiously.
"Came in through the window apparently. I think Natasha wants to tear down the fire escape now." Yelena deadpanned.
"Like either of you need it anyway." The rat came closer to you and sniffed your hand before walking onto it. You picked up the small creature and placed her down gently on the fire escape before shutting the window.
"Was that so hard?" You said with a smile.
"They carry disease, you know?" Yelena fired back.
"So do we!" You exclaimed and paused when Yelena gave you a side eye. "Okay some of us." You corrected as you washed your hands.
"I hope she didn't call you away from anything important." Yelena said as she glanced at the hot drink you had left on the counter.
"I was just about to go to the pharmacy." You shrugged.
"It's your lucky day, I need band aids." Yelena declared as she picked up her satchel bag.
"Band...aids?" You questioned with a shit eating grin as you grabbed your drink and headed for the door with the blonde behind you.
"Yes, y/n. I need band aids. You're as bad as Natasha, she doesn't seem to think we need them either. We have everything in that bathroom except band aids!" You giggled as you watched her ramble in exasperation, finding it undeniably cute when she got lost in her own world about something.
"So if you're bleeding to death you'll be fine but if you get a papercut then things are gonna get bad?" You teased as you left the building. Yelena rolled her eyes at you but seemed to not be able to stop the small smile fighting for it's appearance, tugging at the corner of her mouth.
"It's a pretty big papercut." She mumbled as she inspected the cut on her forefinger.
"Well I think you're very brave." You grinned.
You walked in a comfortable silence for a while until your eyes landed on something that spiked every happy hormone in your body. "Yelena!" You grabbed at her arm and pointed across the street. The blonde was understandably alarmed at first and you noticed her reach into her back pocket for something until she saw what you were pointing at.
"Seven ferrets." Yelena muttered as she watched the small animals half run down the street infront of their owner.
"Seven adorable ferrets." You corrected as you watched them continue to scurry along.
"I can see how that could be the highlight of your week." Yelena recalled and you couldn't help but blush slightly. "I think this is the highlight of mine." She admitted.
"You're only human." You sighed as you turned around to keep walking, a content smile on your lips.
"Why don't you have pets if they make you so happy?" Yelena asked curiously.
"Not allowed in my apartment." You said gloomily. It was probably for the best, you would have a lot of pets if you could, too many to handle.
"If you think about it, rats are just small ferrets and you see those everyday. You could go find some more." Yelena teased and you chuckled.
"Haven't you heard? They carry disease." It was Yelena's turn to laugh lightly at that. You smiled proudly at causing the beautiful sound and felt your stomach do a small flip.
*
It turned out all the Avengers were keen to have Yelena on their team. Tony and Steve had introduced themselves to the new Russian one evening and bored (Yelena's words) her with stories of their latest successful missions and how great it was to be an Avenger. She didn't buy it.
Then she started getting emails and texts from the team, inviting her to different events and trying to get on her good side. Tony had even sent an extravagant gift basket to the apartment one day. Yelena had asked you to spend the afternoon sorting through it with her, snacking on all the expensive chocolates on the way as you told the blonde you thought she had a secret admirer.
It was early in the afternoon when she finally agreed to meeting the whole team.
"I just think it could be fun. I know they probably seem like annoying children right now, but at those parties they have to behave." You said into the phone as you balanced it on your shoulder.
"I don't think I own the right kind of clothing for it." Yelena said.
"I'm sure Natasha can lend you something, she is your big sister after all." You teased and heard her groan.
"You don't even have to stay long. But once you actually meet them they'll lay off about you joining if you still don't want to."
"It's just not-"
"Your thing." You finished with a smile. "I know, Lena. They'll get it." She hummed in thought and a silence fell over your phones until you cursed. "Shit." You muttered when the table leg fell down again.
"You need help putting that table together?" Yelena asked for the umpteenth time. You sighed as you sat back and glared at the parts sprawled out across the floor.
"Yes please."

Yelena Belova wearing a suit was something else entirely. Every outfit her sister offered her she turned down until Natasha grew frustrated and took Yelena out for a suit fitting, and god it paid off. The blazer hugged her body closely in a way you partly wished you could feel. You knew the blonde wasn't big on any form of affection, especially physical, but you loved it and Yelena had become a good friend. During late evenings when she was sitting comfortably in an armchair with a large hoodie on you thought she looked so soft and warm. You could only imagine how safe you would feel in her arms. You always had to put those thoughts aside quickly, not wanting to let your mind linger on things so intimate.
"Told you this place isn't so bad." You laughed nervously as Yelena approached you. She smiled and shook her head, her eyes looking so much brighter in the new lighting.
"I can't argue with that." The blonde shrugged and followed you to the bar.
"You um, you look amazing by the way." You said as she avoided Yelena's gaze, not wanting to let your eyes wander the way they were straining to. Unfortunately that meant you missed how she took in your attire and the admiration she struggled to hide.
"So do you." She smiled.
"Evening." Natasha said with a smirk as she came up to you and Yelena from the other side of the bar.
"This does not feel right at all." You winced making the redhead smile, more so when she prepared what she knew was your favourite drink.
"Yelena! You running away from me?" Sam grinned as he strolled towards the bar. You smiled into your drink when you saw the blonde shift on her feet in slight frustration.
"You gotta come meet Maria, you're gonna love her!" He exclaimed as he tried to steer Yelena away. She looked back at you with a face that was clearly asking for help but you just giggled as she left and waved goodbye to her.
"Has she met Wanda yet?" You grinned at Natasha knowingly and a slight blush appeared on her cheeks.
"She has." You hummed and looked across the room to spot the Sokovian in question. "And?"
"And they only just stopped talking when you arrived." You nodded with a triumphant smile, knowing the pair would get along. You missed Natasha's short analysis of your expression, trying to find the thing she knew you were hiding until someone else arrived at the other end of the bar and she rushed off.
You leaned over the bar to pour yourself another drink and started across the room. It didn't take long at all to find Wanda, or rather for her to find you.
"Y/n!" She exclaimed as she pulled you in for a crushing hug barely a second after you had turned around.
"Hey Wan." You laughed as you tried to hug her back.
"How are you, sweetie?" She asked as she let you go.
"I'm good, how have things been for you?" It had been far too long since you had seen the Sokovian and you missed her company a lot. She had such a calming presence that you always felt so comfortable around. You had told her that once, not knowing the fears she faced of her powers and the mistrust she had in herself, and she had teared up as she pulled you in for your first Wanda hug.
"So, I hear you met Yelena." You smiled after a while of catching up with the redhead.
"I was slightly terrified of her at first." She admitted with a laugh.
"She had a gun on me when we met!" You exclaimed as you remembered it clearly.
"So I heard." Wanda teased. "I also hear you guys are getting on like a house on fire." She continued as she watched you carefully.
"Yeah." You muttered as you spotted her talking to Maria. "She's pretty great." You said easily.
You spent a while catching up with various team members between drinks. You kept steeling glances at Yelena, mostly catching her in conversations she clearly didn't want to be in but a few times you caught her eye and paused to smile at her. She was always beautiful but you really couldn't get over how she looked in the navy suit.
You were sat by the bar when the party started to come to an end. You usually would have left a while ago but you wanted to be able to say goodbye to Yelena before you did.
"I'm exhausted." Came the familiar husky voice from behind you. Yelena leaned on the bar next to you and poured herself a vodka and downed the shot.
"Me too!" You said loudly with a slight slur. Yelena paused before letting a smile creep onto her lips as she watched you with an amused glint in her eyes.
"How much have you had to drink?" Yelena asked as she took your glass away from you.
"A few." You thought as you tried to calculate in your head but just shrugged in conclusion.
"легкий (lightweight)." The Russian muttered.
"Hey, come over here." Natasha called as she rounded a corner and spotted you and her sister. "We're putting a film on." She declared. You glanced around and noticed that everyone had gone. When did that happen?
"Let's go, Lena!" You called as you took her by the hand and led her through to where Natasha had gone.
"Are you sure?" She questioned as she looked down at your entwined hands.
"Absolutely!" You jumped up a few steps and saw the group sitting around the large TV on the comfy sofas.
"I missed these." You said to Yelena as you fell down onto the nearest sofa and pulled her down next to you. Natasha placed some snacks down on the table and eyed your joined hands without a comment.
You brought your legs up underneath you, not unlocking your fingers when the blonde's who didn't seem to mind. The other Avengers didn't seem to take much notice or interest in how close you were to Yelena and thanks to your slightly tipsy state you didn't bring much attention to it either. All you knew was that you felt comfortable sitting so close to the Russian that your bare arm was touching her soft blazer.
"Your hands are really soft." You whispered to her. She smiled to herself and tried to fight off the slight blush painting her cheeks that you, lucky for Yelena, didn't notice.
"So are yours." She whispered back.
What you didn't realise was that Natasha was still paying close attention to you both with Wanda smiling knowingly besides her, even when the film started and the lights dimmed. She finally stopped when she heard Wanda laugh lightly at something on screen, turning her attention to the girl besides her and then the film.
Barely 10 minutes in you found yourself growing sleepy. The dark room and the warmth of Yelena were certainly part of the cause but you found you really didn't mind, especially when your head fell onto Yelena's shoulder and she didn't shake you off.
Your eyes struggled to focus on the screen and really anything that wasn't the blonde when she shifted on the sofa to let you lean back against her. You smiled faintly as you let your eyes close and relax against Yelena, your hand still in hers.
*
You awoke when the main lights started to come back on and you felt Yelena stretch behind you. Her blazer was draped across your front and you smiled like an idiot when you realised. She had only worn it for a few hours and it already smelt like her.
"Hey." She husked and you felt a chill run through your body when her breath hit your neck.
"Hey yourself." You grinned back.
"Come on, let's get you home." She said as she sat up on the sofa.
"Can you get me a cab?" You asked as you rubbed your eyes.
"I'll drive you." Yelena stood up and held out her hand to help you up too. You took it happily and leaned against her for support for a moment.
You said goodbye to the team and made your way slowly out of the living area and eventually out the building in a concentrated silence. Concentrated for you, Yelena didn't have any issue putting one foot infront of the other.
"You guys okay getting home?" Natasha called from the entrance as Yelena helped you into her car. You gave Natasha two thumbs up and grinned her way as Yelena nodded. The redhead nodded back and folded her arms as she watched you carefully leave the building site.
It wasn't that long a drive to your apartment. Yelena drove in silence while you hummed along faintly to a song playing quietly on the radio, unaware of the smile playing on the blonde's lips.
When Yelena had parked outside your apartment complex she helped you out the car and up to your apartment, unlocking the door for you and guiding you through to your room where she lay you on the bed gently.
"You should change." Yelena said as she got some of your night clothes from the closet and went into the kitchen to get you a glass of water.
"You should stay." You grinned at her. She arched a brow at you in question but you didn't respond, only turning around on the bed. "Can you help me with my zipper?"
Yelena nodded and put the glass of water down on your bedside table and pulled the zipper down, trying to ignore the urge to see if the skin on your back was as smooth as it looked. She cleared her throat when she realised the zipper went lower than she thought, reaching your tailbone. Yelena took a step back and turned towards the opposite wall as she heard you step out of the dress and into your bed clothes.
"You should take some too." You said when you pulled the duvet back.
"You really want me to stay?" Yelena questioned, it looked like you were starting to sober up.
"Of course!" You grinned as you leaned on your elbows to watch her and patted the space in bed besides you.
"Okay." She smiled and got some clothes from your closet that she quickly changed into when you looked away to drink the water she had given you.
Yelena folded her suit on a chair in the corner of the room before hesitantly getting into the warm bed besides you. But she surprisingly felt a lot more at ease when you draped an arm over her stomach as you closed your eyes. Yelena sighed lightly at the contact. She never thought she was one for physical contact, but she had been wondering what it would be like to receive it from you for a while. Even craved it after you had held her hand earlier that night.
"Night Lena" You mumbled sleepily. Yelena put her hand on your waist to pull you closer to her and brushed a stray strand of hair away from you face.
"Good night y/n."
*
Despite the killer headache that greeted you, you actually woke up feeling pretty great. Your bed was warmer than usual and you didn't feel quite as alone as you always did in the large bed.
You rubbed your eyes and groaned but froze when you felt a hand on your bare waist where your shirt had ridden up. Yelena was sleeping soundlessly besides you and your breath caught in your throat when you took in her appearance. The sunlight seeping into the bedroom hit her face just right and you had to remind yourself not to stare, even if she wasn't awake to notice it.
You spotted a bottle of advil on the bedside table and a fresh glass of water that you took together. You tried to be careful not to wake Yelena but she started to move when you did, her soft hand slipping from your waist.
"Morning." You said after finishing the glass of water and wiping your mouth with the back of your wrist. Yelena groaned as she stretched out like a cat and looked up at you.
"Morning to you too." She smiled and you wondered if she knew she had her hand on your waist just a few seconds prior.
"Feel free to take a shower and borrow some of my clothes." You offered as you stood up from the bed and made your way across the room.
"Thanks." She hummed quietly. "Hey." You turned around by the door when she called you. "How did you sleep?" She asked curiously as she sat up to face you properly.
"Like a rock." You recalled happily. "You?"
"Yeah," Yelena smiled back, "pretty great." You nodded and made your way to kitchen as Yelena got out of bed with a content smile.
Yelena was in the shower when you started on breakfast. Usually you would have made something simple like toast or some fruit but you figured as you had a guest you should make something better and settled on pancakes. You also wanted to thank her for staying the night with you.
"That smells amazing." Yelena said with wide eyes as she trudged into the kitchen, still drying her hair. Your heart swelled at the sight of the blonde in one of your band shirts with some loose shorts. Your thought that your clothes probably looked better on her and you imagined how soft she would look in your favorite hoodie.
"Take a picture, it will last longer." She teased when you didn't respond. You snapped out of your daze and smiled sheepishly as you avoided her eye and continued to flip the pancakes. You put a plate down on the kitchen island and motioned for her to eat as you put some juice and fruit down too.
"No pressure, but what I think of you as a chef is going to be determined by these." She quipped as she started to cut the food. You smiled and turned around to watch the blonde's face change into a childish grin.
"Not too shabby." You concluded before shovelling more of the food into her mouth.
"No too shabby." You repeated with a sense of pride as you sat down next to her.
"That's what they used to say on the American shows I watched as a kid." She explained. You were about to tell her you had heard the expression before but paused when you realised it was the first time Yelena said anything about her childhood to you.
"Weren't they translated?" You asked carefully.
"No because they were copies from America. My father got them for us." She said and you noticed the far away look in her eyes, no doubt remembering that day as best she could.
"Well if you remember what the show's called we can try watch them again." You suggested with a shrug. Yelena considered you for a moment before she smiled at you softly. "Okay." She agreed. You opened your mouth to speak but there was a sudden loud thudding on your apartment door. You went to stand up to see who it was until Natasha opened the door and slammed it shut making you jump.
"I locked that door." Yelena said with certainty.
"I have a spare key." Natasha showed the metal piece before putting it back into her pocket.
"You want pancakes?" You asked as you stood up to put some more batter in the pan.
"What's going on with you two?" The redhead demanded, ignoring your question.
"What do you mean?" You and Yelena used in unison.
"You know exactly what I mean!" Natasha exclaimed as she raised her voice and looked between you and her equally baffled sister. "Are you dating? You could have told me." She continued as a hurt expression flickered across her face.
"We're not dating." Yelena said slowly but glanced at you. "Are we?" You could have sworn you heard her voice hold something hopeful rather than teasing.
"Not since I last checked."
"Can you quit fucking around and just tell me?" Natasha took a second look at the shirt Yelena was wearing before her jaw clenched.
"Oh no no no. We didn't- she just slept over!" You rambled as you started to panic. Natasha looked far from happy. You had been thinking a lot about what your friend had said the first time you met Yelena. You were never sure if she was really serious or not. All you knew was you that you started to feel guilty when your eyes lingered too long on her sister or when you felt the butterflies in your chest at her contact or really anything she did. You told yourself you kept your promise and didn't have a crush on Yelena, but it was becoming increasingly harder to convince yourself and now Natasha.
"You can tell me." The redhead said quieter as her stance softened. You looked to Yelena who seemed set on staying silent as she stared at her empty plate.
"Natasha I really don't know what to say..." You honestly didn't. You were baffled by the whole situation and Yelena was hardly helping. She really thought you were dating?
"Right, I just wanted to know." The older Russian sighed as she trudged towards the door. There was a heavy silence over the apartment until Natasha stopped by the open door to turn towards you both with a frown.
"I didn't mean it. What I said about..." She glanced around as she fidgeted in the doorway and searched for words. You and Yelena waited patiently. "Wanda said you guys are cute." A smile flickered at the corner of your mouth and you looked to the floor. "She's right." She left without another word and shut the door gently behind her. You exhaled heavily once you heard the click and leaned against the counter.
"Crazy, right?" You laughed nervously. Yelena didn't respond. "You okay?" You started filling the washing up bowl with water, needing to do something as you talked.
"She thinks we're dating." Yelena muttered.
"Yeah that's what I... that's crazy." You laughed more and scratched the back of your neck.
"Is it?" She questioned as she turned around to face you. You couldn't help but stare back at her light eyes that you struggled to read.
"Maybe not." You shrugged. The blonde looked back at the ground with a conflicted look. "No... no it's not." You concluded.
"I like spending time with you." Yelena continued. "Just hanging out, helping you put together that damn table, sleeping next to you. Even at that damn party with like one hundred people I still just wanted to be with you." She admitted and you exhaled a breath you didn't know you had been holding. "I just like being around you."
"I like being around you too." Yelena looked up and you held her gaze as your hands shook with nerves.
"Would you still like being around me if we were on a date?" She asked boldly. You couldn't contain the smile that grew at her words. You reached out and took her hands in yours as you took a step closer to the Russian.
"I would love it." Yelena smiled and stood up slowly, her eyes flickering to your lips as you licked them. You closed your eyes and leaned forward bravely, finding your hands were no longer shaking. Yelena's left hand left yours and came up to your neck to steady herself and close the gap between you, pressing her lips ever so softly against yours.
You snaked your hand around her waist to bring her somehow closer and deepened the kiss you realised you had been craving for so long. You pulled away softly and rested your forehead against Yelena's, suddenly feeling very dizzy.
"I have a huge crush on you." You admitted with a sigh, to yourself and Yelena.
"I have a huge crush on you too." Yelena laughed softly. "Can we do that date now? I think I've waited long enough." You giggled lightly and nodded your head as excitement rushed over you.
"Sounds perfect." You smiled and went to your bedroom to get changed but paused in the hallway. "You should call Nat."

Oikawa x reader - A married life
"Now I'm asking you, what is this?" You shoved the screen of your phone,  towards your husband as he squinted his eyes at the sudden action.
"I told you,  I was at the company party and I-" Oikawa stopped. The picture showed him kissing a woman clad in revealing dress. His hands covered her cheeks as it looked like he was gladly returning the affection.
"Yn,  I know what it looks like but I promise you its not what it seems like to you."
"Then why are you kissing her!?" You threw your hands in the air,  frustrated at your husband. It didn't help that your hormones were skyrocketing and out of place. You were 3 months pregnant, after all.
"Look, she grabbed me out of nowhere and just forced herself on me. I was trying to push her that's why my hands were around her head. Baby, I wouldn't do that to you. You know I only love you."
You were rendered speechless at his explanation. The ache in your chest dispersing as you calm down. He wrapped his arms around you, running his hands through your soft hair.
"I'm sorry." You mumbled, hiding your face in his chest. He smell so good beneath the smooth texture of his suit. Unknowingly to you, Oikawa's eyes were tightly shut as he bit his lips guiltily.
"It's just whenever I go to your workplace, I always see her sauntering around you. She's obviously trying to seduce you. That's why I asked you again and again to avoid her as much as possible. I don't want to lose you" Voicing out your insecurities made you feel vulnerable. But you know that being in a relationship require two parties involved to be honest with each other. Communication and trust remains the strong foundation of your marriage.
"I know,  sweetheart. But tell me, who sent that picture to you?" He pulled back and just when you were about to answer,  another chime from your phone took both of your attention.
You clicked it open. Oikawa right by your side as he curiously look at your text. You didn't mind it. There was nothing to hide from him anyway.
The message opened to reveal a video. Tapping the play button, it shows your husband furiously making out with the same girl in the earlier photo. They were situated in a corner,  away from everyone as some of his coworkers were busily drinking.
You hands started shaking as tears unconsciously poured from your eyes. Feeling your husband tense from beside you only confirms your theory. The video soon ended and there was tense silence.
You looked up to see Oikawa with his head bowed, hair covering his eyes. Even from your position, you couldn't see his expression. But it didn't matter. The video says it all. You didn't bother asking for explanation this time.
Slowly, you begun untangling his arms around you. Letting out a hollow laugh, you shook your head in dismay.
Funny how you always laugh at those cliche movies whenever a girl experiences heartbreak. They always portray it as a physical pain, symtoms similar to a heart attack. But you deem it as bullshit. Sure, it hurts. But its impossible to feel that much pain just from losing the one you love, right?
So why does it feel like you're dying now? Your heart still beats. But it feels as if it was literally torn and stamp repeatedly. You tried to breath normally but something lodge in your throat and why can't you breath properly?  Why does your lungs seem to stop working right when you need it most?
"Yn!"
"YN!!!"
Choking back a gasp, you return to reality as you see Oikawa panicking as he held you.
"Are you okay? Breath slowly, baby" He instructed, rubbing his hand soothingly on your back as you tried to regain your senses.
"Why, Tooru?" You finally gathered the courage to ask. The feeling of betrayal rang loud and clear on your hoarse voice and he winced from it.
"I'm sorry Yn. I'm sorry for lying. I got pretty drunk at the party. I lose control. We haven't done it for a while after you got pregnant and she was there and just flaunting around and kept rubbing me, saying things how she's going to make me feel good and I just- I!" He rambled, truth finally spilling from those lips you loved so much. His eyes were everywhere but you.
You didn't know what to feel. You asked for the truth, right? But you feel so much worse now.
"Are you blaming me for being pregnant, Tooru?"
"Shit,  no Yn-"
"We planned this together! You said you wanted to build a family with me. And we both decided to refrain from any sexual activities while I'm in my early pregnancy to avoid any possible complications while the baby is being developed. We talked about it and we both agreed! So why are you turning it against me now?"
"I know it wasn't an excuse, Yn! And I know I'm wrong. God,  I'm so wrong.Please, forgive me." Oikawa sobbed, tears cascading down the smooth expanse of his cheeks as he begged for your forgiveness.
"If you can't help yourself then maybe I shouldn't have agreed to have a baby with you!" You cried, anger radiating off you in waves.
"All those nights you came home late. Was it because you were taking your sweet time with her? Hm?" You smiled at him mockingly and his eyes widened in protest.
"No, Yn!" He tightly clutched your arms, desperately forcing you to hear him out, "Listen to me. I took all those overtime to gain extra money. That was in preparation for when our baby comes! Please believe me when I say it was for us!"
You looked at him with dull eyes. The aftermath of the fight just leaves you exhausted. You didn't know what to believe anymore. This was the man you had vowed to be with for the rest of your life. This was the man you wholeheartedly love and respect. Trust had always been your foundation,  hasn't it?
Where has all the trust gone to?
You placed your hand on your belly. Wondering if he or she can feel the pain their father just bestowed to you. Hopefully not. You never want any harm nor pain come to your baby.
"I'm going to sleep. I'm tired." Coming up with a lame excuse, you turn to walk away when a hand firmly grasp your arms, not in a painful way.
"Lets talk about this, Yn. I don't want us to go to sleep tonight without resolving this issue." Oikawa pleaded with you, eyes begging for a chance. Any time, you will easily give in but after what happened, you don't know how to face him.
"I don't know what to say anymore, Tooru. I just want to rest." You smiled at him resignedly. Oikawa gritted his teeth. His heart throb painfully. How can you say that with such look on your face? Knowing that he caused your pain only increased the frustration and guilt running through his veins.
With a sigh,  he unwillingly yielded to your request. Letting go of your hand,  he watched your back face him as you slowly walked further away from him.
He will later learn that that was the biggest mistake of his life.
That night, both of you slept in the same bed as usual. Although a few inches only separates you, both your hearts were distanced with an invisible barrier. One trying to forget the pain it experienced,  while the other trying to find ways to have you back to him.
It was dead silent. You were tilting in between reality and dreams when a sudden, sharp pain tore through your abdomen and you screamed in pain. Startling your husband who immediately checked on you.
"Yn-chan,  are you okay?  What happened!?" Oikawa asked,  panic covering his features as he took in your pain filled expression. He felt the sheets wet and he clicked the bedside lamp open to see your side in bed covered in blood.
Your pupils dilated as you took in the sight. Another stabbing pain washed over you and you keeled in agony, stifling your screams. You barely felt Oikawa whisper comforting words to you before quickly lifting you up to bring you to the hospital.
My baby. No,  I can't lose him/her. Was the only thought going through your mind.
"It hurts" you groaned in pain as Oikawa comfortingly grip your hand with one of his own as he drive with one hand. (AN: Not safe. Don't do this guys. Always drive safely)
"Take deep breaths, love"
"My baby" Sobbing in distress, you held on your stomach and Oikawa felt like vomiting. A lot has happened in the past couple of hours and the thought of something happening to your unborn child didn't help the queasy feeling in his gut.
"I'm here, Yn. Nothing will happen to you nor our baby." Pretending to be strong for the both of you, he forcefully blinked the tears forming on his eyes.
Everything happened fast after that. It was like everything was a blur for him. You were quickly taken in the emergency room before you were transferred to the operating room. The doctor and nurses explained what was happening to you and what they were about to do. He numbly agreed to what they say. Only repeated over and over again that they must save you.
Before long he found himself waiting outside the operating theatre. His ears were ringing as he looked at his surroundings. It was surreal. Like his body was there but his consciousness somewhere else. He was only brought back to reality when he felt harsh tugging on his shoulder.
"Oi,  Oikawa get a grip on yourself!"
"Iwa-...chan..? How did you get here? "
"You texted me,  did you forget?"
"Ah.. Right" Oikawa mumbled, blankly staring at nowhere in particular. He felt drained but the anxiety running on his body did not allow him to even get an ounce of rest as he waited for the news on his wife and baby.
Iwaizumi frowned. It was unusual to see his bestfriend so distraught. He still didn't know what happened after all, Oikawa only texted him that he was in the hospital after something happened to his wife. But he felt asking would be too insensitive on his part so he stay silent and tried to just be there for his bestfriend.
"It was my fault,  y'know" Oikawa finally spoke after some time.
Iwaizumi patiently waited for him to continue, silently confused on Oikawa blaming himself.
"We had a fight. She saw me making out with the girl she hated from our company. Somebody sent her a video of it."
Iwaizumi was shocked. He knew Oikawa was a huge flirt back in their high school days but that he also outgrew it when he fall in love with Yn Ln. They were happy together and rarely had a fight as much as he knew. Or was it all a facade?
Suddenly,  he felt anger rush through him at the foolishness of his bestfriend. Messing around when he knew his wife was pregnant! Iwaizumi opened his mouth to curse at his close friend when he was frozen at the sight.
Oikawa was staring at him with regret painted all over his face. Tears continuously fall on his cheeks. The usual light in his warm, soft eyes was gone and all that was left was an endless pit of misery and hopelessness.
"I screwed up, Iwa-chan" He whispered, defeated.
Flinching in response, Iwaizumi's anger quickly switch into sympathy for his friend as he assessed his poor condition.
"She's strong. Stop thinking on the worst scenario. Just focus on what you will do after this." While giving him a reassurring pat on the back. Oikawa released a shaky breath as he nodded at his friends' advice.
Suddenly,  the doors to the operating room opened and a doctor wearing scrubs came out. Two nurses were by his side.
"We're looking for the husband of Yn, Ln"
"That is me"
Oikawa quickly stand up from his seat and approach the doctor. He was then escorted to an empty room where the two nurses silently left him and the doctor to discuss the aftermath of the procedure.
With his heart beating loudly, Oikawa eagerly fired questions to the doctor.
"How is she?  How's my wife?  My baby?  Were you able to save them?  When can I see them?"
The doctor resignedly took of his mask.
"I'm sorry to inform you,  Oikawa-san but the baby didn't make it. Your wife had a spontaneous miscarriage. It has no specific cause. Women in their first trimester or early pregnancy are more prone to experience it that's why stress must be avoided at all times especially during this sensitive period in a womans' body."
Oikawa felt like being doused in cold water. He stayed frozen while staring at the doctor who looked grim. After seeing all that blood came out on his wife,  he already knew deep inside that they lost the baby but he simply refused to believe it. He hang on to that tiny hope that maybe their unborn baby can be saved.
He shakily gulped, feeling his heart break. The pain was intense. They were looking forward to the arrival of their first child and for this to happen-
"What about my wife? Can I see her now?" He was hurting. Greatly. But he couldn't imagine how his wife was faring. She was the one carrying their child, after all. He wanted to comfort her and be there for her.
"I-" the doctor stopped and cleared his throat. Oikawa felt something amiss. Like an impending doom but he quickly tried to shoo the thought away.
"Doctor, how is she? I want to talk to her as soon as possible."
"That is another matter I must discuss with you, Oikawa-san."
The nerves were killing him and it took all his self restraint to not jump across the table and force the surgeon to speak at once.
"There was.. a complication while we were taking the fetus out of her. The amount of blood was greater than what it should been. We quickly transfused blood into her but it wasn't enough. We tried to resuscitate her but in the end she.. died due to heamorrhagic shock."
For a moment, Oikawa forgot how to breath. The world around him turn to black and white and the only words resounding in his mind was that she's dead, she's dead repeatedly.
It didn't fully sink in yet. Until he saw his wife, his beloved Yn, lying still in the operating room. Her face was pale under the glare of OR lights. And if he didn't know any better, it looks as if she is only sleeping peacefully after a long day. But as he caress her cold cheeks, no more warmth emanating from those cheeks he love to kiss so much, he was slapped with the bitter reality that she's not coming back.
No more warm smiles and sweet kisses from his wife as he return home after a long day at work. No more delicious meals waiting for him at the table as they talked about what happened during their day. No more cuddles and whisper of i love you's in the darkness of the night as they lay entangled from the after event of making love.
The perfect picture of a happy family with their son/daughter shattered in his mind as he loudly grieved for the loss of his family.
Kami-sama if you are real,  please let me return back time. Let me be with my family again. Please give me a chance to make things right...
Oikawa loudly gasped as if coming back to land after drowning. He find himself gazing at the ceiling in their room. It was dark. Where was he?
A slight shuffle and then,
"Are you okay? Did you have a nightmare, Tooru?"
That sweet, melodious voice.
Oikawa slowly turn towards the source of sound to see, much to his relief, his beloved wife gazing at him with concern while rubbing the sleep out her eyes.
"Yn-chan" He choked, lunging at her to give her the tightest embrace.
"Woah there,  big guy" You chuckled,  patting his back. You stilled when you felt something wet trickled down your neck.
"I'm so glad! So glad to be with you, Yn!" The pure, raw emotion coming from your husband surprised you as he continued to sob on your neck, clinging to you like a lost baby.
"Please don't ever leave me again!  Kami-sama,  thank you for bringing her back to me!" Oikawa yelled, voice muffled as he continued to shove his face around your neck.
"What has happened to you, dear?" You worriedly asked and pull his face away to wipe some of his tears.
"Do you want to talk about it?" You suggested,  talking about his nightmare.
"No need, love. I just want to say that I *kiss* love *kiss* you *kiss* so damn much!"
You giggled at his affection, loving his kisses.
"Oh and how many months are you again?"
"Silly, did you forget? I'm just two months along. 7 months to go"
Oikawa heaved a sigh of relief. Turning to your stomach,  he leaned down and pulled up your shirt.
"Hey,  little one. I'm so excited to meet you. But for now,  be good for mommy, okay?" Placing a sweet kiss to your stomach,  you smiled at your husbands' attention as you run your fingers through his hair. Oikawa gladly reciprocate your smile with his own.
This time, I'll love you with all of my heart. I won't make the same mistakes again. We will be a happy family, Yn.
Extended ending:
"Yes you heard it right. You're fired." Oikawa coldly said to his assistant. The one who destroyed his past life and made him and his wife suffer.
"But! I-" she whined pathetically, trying to win his sympathy by acting like a pitiful slut. But Oikawa was having none of it.
"I said. Get. Out." The fiery glare in his eyes send shivers down her spine and she immediately booked her way out of his office,  whining like a bitch along the way.
Another extended ending:
7 months later, you tiredly smile at the little bundle of joy in your arms. After 18 hours of grueling labor, you finally had your healthy, baby boy.
"I'm so proud of you." Oikawa wiped the sweat along your forehead as he softly kissed you.
"Thank you for bringing our baby to this world. You make me the happiest person alive, Yn. I love you two so much and I swear to protect you both for the rest of my life." He whispered, tears springing in his eyes at the emotional moment.
"As do I,  Tooru. As do I." You swore,  sealing that promise with sweet kiss.

Tumblr media
meeting the greatest detective
your bakery, Sakura’s, which you named after your late grandmother (who was also your guardian), went into business when you were 18 right after graduating high school
who needed a culinary course when you were trained by dear ol grandma?
your grandmother died when you were 16, just as you started your second year of high school
you were devastated of course, but you knew she wouldn’t want you to wallow over it too long
so in those last two hard years of high school, you took part time jobs at other bakeries and saved lots and lots of money
by graduation, using your life savings, the money your grandmother had left for you, and all the money you earned working, you were able to buy the small building—with a reasonable amount of money left over to survive— you and your grandmother had been eyeing back in her hometown, yokohama, to start your bakery
the building was a bit run down, but you were planning to give it a makeover anyways
it was a bit smaller compared to other buildings around, only having two stories, but on the plus side, the second floor had taller ceilings and was an apartment
is that realistic? probably not but bare with me here
aNYWHO
you finished putting your bakery up in about 4 months, then finished up your apartment 2 more after
you opened Sakura’s at 7 in the morning then closed at 8 in the evening
when you first started, you did quite well!!
especially with those who went to work on early mornings and families
the time when you first opened was the most peaceful, but you admitted that it was a bit boring, and you wished for a bit more excitement
and boy, the day edogawa ranpo stepped into your bakery was the catalyst for the chaos and excitement that was soon to come
not that you knew that
if you did you would’ve never let him in
maybe
you were 19 when ranpo discovered Sakura’s, and it was completely accidental
he finished solving a case and was on the way back to the agency, and he—not surprisingly—got lost and then it started to rain really hard
it was pouring; there was even the cliche thunder strike and everything
you saw the brown clad man across the street and you ran out with two umbrellas (almost getting hit by a car mind you) handed one to him and practically dragged him inside
with the heavy rain on the forecast, Sakura’s was empty, so you gently pushed him down on a chair and you rushed away to find towels
even though the two of you had umbrellas, the two of you were still soaked
finding said towels, you quickly dried yourself the best you could then you draped your towel over your back and rushed over to give him his as well as a warm pastry and your special hot honey lemon tea
ranpo laughed as you placed down the refreshment and snack, thinking that you knew who he was and was giving him special treatment
poor bby blinked and went :0 when you said you didn’t
“you don’t know who i am?”
“no. am i supposed to?”
“...”
the 25 year old blanked and you worried that you broke him and started to apologize profusely
he cut you off claiming that he got over it he didnt but seeing as the bakery was empty and it was pouring pretty badly, he demanded you give him all your attention sit with him so he could tell you all about himself and what he’s done
the two of you got along quite well
you were amazed with all the stories he’s told you
you honestly acted like a cute little kid listening to fairytales
he told you that and in response you threw a napkin at him
“wow ranpo-san! that’s amazing!!”
“you look like a little kid”
cue the napkin
he was happy with all the attention, praise, and sweets you gave him
the agency gave him praise sure, and made sure he had a lot of snacks but it was refreshing to have someone give him this much and your treats were the best he’s ever had
after he told you all his most interesting cases, the two of you just rambled about the most randomest things; going from the best desserts and snacks to the stupidest things his coworkers have done
you guys were on that last topic for a while
you two talked and rambled for hours, and when it hit hour two and the rain was still pouring, you just went ahead and slipped the “we’re open” sign to “closed” even though it was only 2 o’clock
you thought that this was probably the loving goofy older brother relationship that you missed out on
“ranpo-san, you’re kind of like the brother i’ve never had”
“and you’re still like that little kid”
cue another napkin to the face
don’t worry, he already adores you <3
he just likes to make fun of you </3
*cuts you off as you’re talking to squish your cheeks* “(y/n) you still have a lot of baby fat and you’re pretty short...are you sure you’re still not in high school or smth??”
*incoherent talking due to pressure on cheeks* “ranpo-san you have 3 seconds before i kick you out”
at around 6, the rain came to a stop and by then, the both of you were all dried up
before he left, you gave him a map so that he hopefully wouldn’t get lost again and gave him a couple boxes of treats for him to have and to share with his coworkers
you closed early so you had to give away at least some of the remaining treats somehow
he wanted you to go to agency with him so he didn’t have to carry everything but you declined saying that you didn’t want to bc you wanted to rest
and for payback for calling you a little kid
you were 19 goddamnit
you already placed everything neatly into two bags so it was easy to carry but this bitch still had the audacity to pout and whine at you
and he calls you the little kid, jeez
you never told him but, you almost gave in
you never told him. but he probably already knows
ranpo san knows all after all; even you knew that by now
the two of you had also exchanged phone numbers and when the two of you showed each other what you each put for a contact name along with the note below, the two of you broke out into grins
you named him “the greatest detective <33″ & put the note “new nii-san <33 & bully </3″ and he named you “cute bakery girl” with the note “best follower, sweets supply & annoying little kid”
when he left, you properly closed the bakery and taped a sign to the door saying that you closed early for personal reasons
when everything was cleaned up, you marched up into your bedroom, plopped on your bed, and took a nap
you deserved it
at the agency not too long after that, ranpo had arrived and when he opened the door, everyone rushed towards him in concern asking if he was okay
he waved them off and walked towards his desk and plopped down in his seat
he placed the two bags in front of him and took out a box of cream puffs and started to snack on them
his coworkers watched him blankly as his scarfed down one after another
after finishing that box, he rummaged through the bags to look through the different kinds of pastries you’ve given him
noticing that there were people still staring at him he paused before sighing in exasperation
he began to whine at his coworkers saying that no one told him it was gonna rain and that they were lucky that he happened to be in front of Sakura’s
“why did no one tell me?! it was pouring and i was soaked! you guys are lucky that (n/n)-chan’s bakery was right there! you would’ve probably lost me! how would the agency even function without me here?!”
no one wanted to be the one to tell him that they had no idea who he was talking about and that they did in fact tell him that it was gonna pour
they can save that, and their questions for another time

It was late morning and Dokyeom had just finished letting the dogs out onto the cafe floor. Wonwoo was busy prepping the cafe counter while Mingyu was pouring out breakfast for the dogs.
After breakfast was served, Mingyu moved to clean out the dogs' potty area in the back and Dokyeom helped Wonwoo stock the display case. The dogs ran around and played with each other. Some of the smaller dogs ran in the clear tube system they had set up along the front windows. Except for one.
The small dog named Luna sat in the tubing next the door nearly level with the door handle. All Dokyeom could see was the messy light brown fur that covered her back as she sat just staring out the window. Not moving a muscle but he knew that her eyes followed every person and every car that passed by. Customers never really interested her and she sat either in that spot of the one on the other side of the front door daily. The only person who could really capture her attention was Wonwoo but he was usually busy with the cafe during the days so she just sat there.
It was while Dokyeom was looking at Luna that he saw her. And so did many of the other dogs. The dogs started barking and followed as she passed in front of the windows. She looked over at the dogs chasing her and a smile touched her lips.
Most of the dogs were following her from the cafe floor but a few managed to sneak into the tunnels and follow her there. As she walked passed, a small dog just sitting in the tunnels caught her attention.
She paused and looked at the dog with sweet eyes as it looked back at her. Smiling softly, she tapped her finger against the glass and the dog nudged her nose in the same spot.
"Hi." (y/n) whispered softly, "You're so cute." She looked up at the big sign with the name of the establishment written out in separated cursive letters. "Aji's Cafe." (y/n) read the name out loud.
She peeked behind the puppy staring at her with large eyes and saw a bunch of other dogs wondering around the cafe. "A dog cafe." She murmured with awe before turning her attention back to the light brown dog pawing at her through the window. "I'm sorry, I have to go to work now. Bye." (y/n) gave the dog a tiny apologetic wave before resuming her walk to work.
As she walked away, the tiny little brown fluff ball trotted after her until the dog couldn't follow anymore.
Wonwoo broke from his morning duties and found Dokyeom staring out the windows. Following his line of sight, he tried to find what Dokyeom was staring at. He couldn't see anything special so he nudged Dokyeom's shoulder, "Did you zone out?" He asks.
"No, there was a girl." Dokyeom shook his head and pointed to where Luna sat at the far side of the window. "Luna even followed her."
Wonwoo looked back at the window to find what Dokyeom said was true. Luna had moved from her normal spot and he hadn't even been anywhere near her. "How interesting..." He commented, allowing himself a second of awe before heading into the storage room to grab more straws. Dokyeom leaned his elbows on the counter and the image of her face appeared in his mind. Mostly, he was stuck on her eyes. Just how soft they were when she was looking at Luna and how a small wave of something hidden washed over her eyes for a second before it vanished. He was intrigued by her and part of him wanted to know more but the other part knew he would probably never see her again.
But the next day, she walked passed again and even stopped to stare at Luna again. However, just like the previous day, she didn't stay long and didn't wonder into the cafe. Much to Dokyeom's dismay.
It happened the next day. And the next. And the next. And the next. After a week, Dokyeom decided to try and catch the mystery girl while she was stopped and ask her why she always stopped.
"What are you going to do?" Mingyu chuckled, "Stand out there all morning until she shows up?"
"Maybe." Dokyeom stated defiantly while gripping the broom tighter.
"What else would you do?" Wonwoo wondered, drying off the cup that Mingyu had used for his morning pick-me-up.
Dokyeom shrugged, "Go out when she shows up."
Mingyu burst into laughter and Wonwoo tried to hide his laugh.
"That won't be odd at all." Mingyu said, over pronouncing every other word.
Suddenly the dogs started to bark and clammer towards the front windows. The three coworkers turned their heads and as always, the girl was walking passed.
"Huh, she's earlier than normal." Wonwoo remarked, glancing at the clock.
Nowadays, instead of just paying attention to Luna, she would look at all the dogs that came to greet her in the windows. Today was no different but she did move slower and gave a couple more seconds of attention to the other dogs. Her smile filled her eyes as she reached her hand out to the window and greeted Luna and Dokyeom was captivated.
"He's gonna miss his chance." Mingyu snickered to Wonwoo who elbowed him in the stomach.
While the sentence reached Dokyeom's ears, it didn't fully process until a handful of seconds later.
"Oh!" He exclaimed and walked towards the front door with the broom securely in his hand.
As casually as his nervous nerves would let him, he opened the front door and began to sweep the front entrance area. He paused and looked up at her while she was occupied with Luna's attention. She was dressed simply in jeans and a blouse with a large purse hanging off one shoulder. Her hand was still touching the window and Dokyeom could just barely make out Luna on the other side pawing at her hand.
With a pounding heart, Dokyeom attempted to start a conversation with the mystery girl.
"You know, she never pays attention to anyone like that." He stated as nonchalantly as he could.
The girl's head whipped up towards him, somewhat startled that he would be speaking to her.
"It's a female?" She asked after she deemed him nonthreatening.
"Yeah, her name's Luna." Dokyeom said, approaching her. "She usually sits in the window and just stares blankly. Doesn't really interact with our customers either."
"She seems very sweet though." She tilted her head to the side. (y/n) moved her hand to the side slightly and watched in adoration as Luna's body twisted to follow it.
"She is. To the people she likes." Dokyeom told her and tapped on the window near (y/n)'s hand but Luna's attention was solely on (y/n).
"People?" (y/n) repeated a little confused.
Dokyeom nodded towards the inside of the cafe, "She also likes Wonwoo, the one behind the coffee bar."
(y/n) raised her head up and looked beyond the tunnel system criss-crossing the window. Spotting the male busy loading the coffee beans, she smiled.
"Well, at least one of you can get her out of the window." She joked and Dokyeom chuckled.
"Do you want to come in?" He asked and gestured towards the door, "You stop by almost everyday but haven't once come in. I'm sure Luna would love it."
(Y/n) felt her heart leap into her throat. She hadn't thought anyone noticed how often she stopped by. Stopping at this cafe every day was her claim to a fairy tale life where somebody might notice her but she knew that no one paid that much attention to anything, especially her. A second later, her heart sank heavily back into place as she rejected his offer.
"I can't. I have to go to work." She said sadly and Dokyeom's expression fell slightly before he picked it up again with a smile.
"That's okay." He reassured her, "We're always here so you should stop by after work or on your day off or something."
(y/n) nodded. "Yeah, I might." She gave him a small smile. "Well, I gotta go to work now..." She trailed off, unsure of how to end such a conversation.
"Oh, right, right." Dokyeom stammered out. "Uh, my name's Dokyeom, by the way."
"(y/n)." She informed him, "It was nice to meet you, Dokyeom." She turned to the window where Luna still sat and leaned closer even though they both knew it wasn't going to help. "And it was nice to finally know your name, Luna." She gave Dokyeom one last wave, which he reciprocated, and walked down the street.
As she walked away, (y/n) let out the breath she'd been holding in cause not only was he not annoyed that she always stopped by but he was sweet. Not to mention absolutely adorable.
(y/n) walked away and Luna followed her as far as the edge of the window. Then she stared longingly after (y/n). As did Dokyeom. A warm smile rested on his lips and his heart was fluttering in his heart. He finally knew the mystery girl's name: (y/n). He thought it was an adorable name and that she, herself, was completely adorable.
A sudden knocking at the window scared Dokyeom half to death. With his defenses up, he looked around for the culprit and found Mingyu by the window, a hand resting in between two levels of tunnel and the other wrapped tightly around his stomach while he shook with the biggest laugh attack.
Dokyeom scowled at his friend and stomped back inside, flinging the door open without an ounce of grace for the hinges.
"Kim. Min. Gyu." Dokyeom seethed angrily through gritted teeth and turned towards the window where Mingyu stood, still suffering from his laugh attack. "You are dead."
"It's not his fault you were transfixed by the girl." Wonwoo chuckled as he refilled the lids. "But hey, you talked to her!" He praised Dokyeom which wiped the scowl from his face.
"I did." Dokyeom agreed proudly, leaning the broom against the coffee bar and leaning his own body over the counter.
"So, what'd you talk about?" Wonwoo wondered as Mingyu shuffled over, his eyes still bright with laughter.
"I told her Luna's name. Asked her to come in. She declined because she had to go to work. But she said she'd try when she doesn't work." Dokyeom informed the other two as they listened intently, "We exchanged names and then she left."
"Simple." Mingyu nodded slowly, contemplating the information, "I like it."
"What's her name?" Wonwoo inquired, raising both eyebrows like the question shouldn't have needed to been asked.
A smile touched Dokyeom's lips as he told them her name. "It's (y/n)."
The next day, (y/n) stopped by again but when she peeked inside the cafe, none of boys she'd seen the last time were in the main cafe area. She had a split second thought that they may have closed down but the dogs running around the cafe were a clear sign that they hadn't.
The day after that, Dokyeom walked out and talked to her a more while she said hello to Luna. He did it again the day after that and the one after that. It became part of both of their routines. (y/n) would stop in front of the cafe and play with Luna through the window while she waited for Dokyeom's momentary company. Dokyeom would be outside the cafe the second she appeared at their windows. Though sometimes he'd be in the back of the store and Wonwoo or Mingyu would have to call his name when (y/n) passed by. Wonwoo and Mingyu loved those times because it was absolutely hilarious to watch Dokyeom scramble to get to the front door as fast as possible. It was entertaining but Dokyeom's race to the front door would often rile up all the dogs into a barking fest so their ears suffered.
"Do you want anything to drink?" Dokyeom asked one day. The question took (y/n) by surprise.
"I don't think I have time to wait for it..." She said super apologetically because while it would really nice to hop inside for a drink, she couldn't be late to work.
Dokyeom shook his head, "That's okay. I was more thinking that if you told me what you wanted, I could have it ready for you when you stop by tomorrow." He explained.
"How would I pay you for it?" She wondered, enjoying the thought that he had thought a plan like through.
Dokyeom shook his head, again. "You don't have to pay. You stop by everyday and stop for Luna. That's enough payment for us."
"Are you sure?" (y/n) questioned to make sure because she kind of felt bad for not paying.
"Completely sure." Dokyeom nodded definitively. "What would like to drink tomorrow, (y/n)?" He asked her with bright eyes.
(y/n) giggled, "I'll just take an Americano."
"Iced?" He pushed further.
"In this weather?" She gestured up at the sun beating down on their shoulders, "Yes, please."
"You got it." Dokyeom memorized her order with a smile.
(y/n) smiled and glanced down at her phone. "Shit, I gotta go. I'll stop by tomorrow." She told him and gave Luna one last little wave before she quickly walked away.
Dokyeom managed a small wave before she completely turned around. But even as she walked away, his hand didn't lower back down until he realized it was starting to go numb from the lack of blood.
"This is coming out of your paycheck." Wonwoo informed Dokyeom over the espresso machine.
Dokyeom nodded his head quickly, tired of being reminded. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Can you hurry up? She's going be here any second."
Wonwoo chuckled and shook his head, "Chill, it's almost done."
Dokyeom nervously glanced from the clock to the espresso machine and back to the clock. Hearing the espresso hit the water and ice in the cup, he whipped his around and watched as Wonwoo placed a lid on the cup. Tearing all but the top portion of the plastic off the straw, he stuck the straw in just as (y/n) rounded the corner.
"Wow, she has good timing." Mingyu muttered, bringing Wonwoo the coffee beans for the day.
Not wanting to waste another second, Dokyeom dashed out the door with the coffee in hand.
"One Iced Americano for the lady." He announced himself and handed (y/n) the coffee.
"Thank you." She smiled while taking it from him and Dokyeom swore his heart exploded.
Boy, did he like (y/n).
A couple days later, Dokyeom was helping Wonwoo at the coffee bar and kept glancing at the windows waiting for (y/n) to stop by so he could talk to her. Luna was waiting too, except she wasn't as nervous as Dokyeom.
"You're really going to do it?" Wonwoo asked, throwing a glance at him while he wiped the counter down.
Dokyeom refocused on stocking the macarons, "Yeah, I'm going to. I mean it's a phone number and I feel like since we've been talking every day, it's only right to exchange numbers, right?"
Wonwoo shrugged, "I'm the wrong person to ask."
They fell into a silence and as the minutes passed, Dokyeom became antsy. The time when (y/n) would usually appear in front of their cafe passed and Dokyeom had to calm himself.
"Maybe she woke up late." He reasoned with himself.
But then her work start time came and went.
"Okay, maybe she woke up REALLY late." He told himself and forced himself to go about his day. But Luna just sat in the window, waiting.
The next day, Dokyeom waited in front of the coffee bar, too nervous to help with the opening chores. Half of his nerves came from worrying if (y/n) would reject his number and the other half worried that she wouldn't show up again.
(y/n)'s usually time quickly approached and Dokyeom felt his entire body buzzing with anticipation and nervousness. Luna also waited patiently, her eyes scanning the street for any sign of the person she'd come to love.
As time passed and there was no sign of (y/n), Dokyeom felt like his heart and entire body were being dragged into the underworld.
Wonwoo and Mingyu silently went about their morning duties but they couldn't help glancing sorrowfully at Dokyeom and Luna. Even they were effected by (y/n)'s absence, though they had never actually interacted with her.
2 more days passed and still there was no sign of (y/n). Luna still kept hope and sat obediently at the window, waiting for (y/n) to return. But Dokyeom began to lose hope. He started to believe that she wasn't coming back and he feared it was because he had said or done something.
"Don't lose hope, Dokyeom." Wonwoo tried to encourage his friend Saturday morning while they were releasing the dogs from their kennels.
"It's pretty obvious she's not coming back." Dokyeom muttered, sadness laced in his voice like a vine tangled in a fence.
"Maybe she went on a business trip or something." Wonwoo offered while opening a large kennel.
Dokyeom shrugged, "Or I scared her off." His pessimism was a stark contrast to the bubbly and optimistic person Wonwoo had befriended all those years ago.
Sighing, Wonwoo opened Luna's kennel and scooped her out. She nuzzled into his chest and gave him a lick on the chin. Walking to the doorway, he set Luna down and she trotted right into the tunnel system and planted her butt in the same spot as always.
Dokyeom opened the rest of the kennels on his side and let the dogs run out. A frown had been etched onto his face for days and the only time it went away was when he forced a smile for the customers that stopped in.
Mingyu walked through the doorway with a slightly distressed expression. If Dokyeom squinted, he thought he could see Mingyu's eye twitching.
"I forgot to refill the food container last night." He whispered like it was the worst thing to happen on the planet.
"Let's do that now." Wonwoo said calmly and began walking further into the back room where the 20 pound bags of dog food were kept. One person could handle it but having two people was obviously much faster.
Outside the cafe, (y/n) stopped just before the cafe windows began with her heart pounding in her throat. She didn't mean to be absent for so many days and now she didn't know how they would react if she showed up again.
"Oh, you've got to be kidding me." Wonwoo dropped his head in frustration.
"What?" Mingyu wondered, walking over. "Oh, uh, Dokyeom, add dog food to the list of groceries we have to order."
This got Dokyeom's attention and he scrunched his eyebrows together, "We're completely out?"
"Almost out." Wonwoo corrected Dokyeom, looked at him, and pointed to the top shelf where the last bag of dog food sat.
"Oh, okay." Dokyeom said as Mingyu quickly set up the ladder to climb.
Reaching the top, he carefully slides the bag out and into Wonwoo's awaiting and outstretched hands. Dokyeom was still there... just in case something happened?
Taking a deep breath, (y/n) confidently walked into the cafe and was immediately greeted by a bunch of dogs barking and surrounding her. But the one she wanted to see was a little late as she had to run out of the tunnels to reach (y/n). Picking up Luna, (y/n) allowed her to give a few licks before readjusting her to be nestled in one arm while the other petted the other dogs. Just as she lowered herself to the ground, she heard someone exclaim from the back room and a small commotion.
"We have got to get better at keeping records." Wonwoo commented as the bag nearly reached his hands.
"Wasn't my dut- Ah!" Mingyu exclaimed as the bag slipped from his grasp and into Wonwoo's arms. The sudden weight made Wonwoo stumble and drop to a knee. The corner of the bag snagged on a shelf and started to spill dog food onto the floor.
"Dokyeom, grab it, grab it." Wonwoo spit out instructions as Mingyu clambered down the ladder. Dokyeom quickly flung into action and grabbed ahold of the torn corner before more food could spill out.
"Well, there goes a solid 2 cups." Mingyu said and began collecting the fallen food to throw away. All three prepared for the onslaught of dogs rushing in to try and grab some of the fallen food but it never came.
"Where are the dogs?" Dokyeom wondered as Wonwoo rose back to his full height.
"Maybe they didn't hear the food falling." Wonwoo offered a reason. "Let's get the stupid container filled before my arms actually fall off." He huffed out and Dokyeom agreed still holding onto the torn corner.
Turning into the doorway, Wonwoo and Dokyeom nearly drop the bag of food, along with Dokyeom's jaw.
(Y/n) sat on the floor, surrounded by nearly all the dogs in the cafe and Luna tucked happily in the crook of her arm. She looked up and noticed the two men standing in the doorway holding onto a big bag of dog food. Wonwoo was holding the majority of the bag and Dokyeom had a hold on a corner and his eyes were wide with shock. Quickly standing up, (y/n) made sure Luna was still comfortable.
"Hi." She said sheepishly, a warm flush appearing on her cheeks.
"Hi." Wonwoo was first to greet her until he elbowed Dokyeom in the stomach which got him sputtering out a greeting.
"Hey, hi." He said and Wonwoo wanted to facepalm himself but (y/n) giggled.
"I, uh, heard some noise back there, are you guys okay?" (y/n) asked, looking slightly worried between the two of them.
"Yeah, yeah." Dokyeom said, recovering from his shock, "Uh, Mingyu just dropped the bag of dog food into Wonwoo and then the corner snagged and tore and then I had to grab it. Heh." He eyed the spot where his hand kept the food from spilling out.
"Ah, I see." (Y/n) nodded as Wonwoo side stepped towards the dog food container, pulling Dokyeom along. She followed but kept a few feet away, not wanting to get too close. "Is Mingyu okay?"
"I'm fine!" Mingyu said appearing in the doorway with his hands cupped together, trying not to drop anymore dog food.
"You haven't been here for a few days." Dokyeom pouted once he was relieved of his bag holding duty.
"Yeah..." (y/n) scratched the back of her neck. "Sorry for disappearing like that."
"Did you have a work thing?" Dokyeom asked, unable to stop his curiosity. "Wonwoo thought you might've had something like that."
(y/n) chewed on her bottom lip, "It wasn't a business trip."
"Oh." Dokyeom's face fell and he wasn't able to pick it up like he had the first time they'd met. Fears that he'd scared her away were rushing in and he couldn't stop them.
"It's not anything bad." (y/n) rushed out when she saw his face stay fallen. "The first day I woke up really late and was late to work so I couldn't stop by. And then the next day I got really sick and couldn't leave my house."
"You were sick?" Dokyeom repeated her words, worry for her replacing all the negative thoughts immediately.
She nodded, "It was pretty bad." She smiled, a bit embarrassed.
"Are you okay?" He asked her, his eyes searching her face for any signs of discomfort.
"I'm fine now. I'm completely fine." (y/n) reassured him, "I think I caught a bug from work or something."
Dokyeom sighed in relief and ran a hand through his hair.
(y/n) felt her breath catch in her throat and her heart fluttered like a hummingbird.
Wonwoo finished shoving the dog food bag into the trash before moving to the sink to wash his hands. Mingyu took Wonwoo's spot next to the newly filled food container and began dishing out the food for the dogs.
"Iced Americano?" He asked (y/n) and looked over his shoulder at her.
She nodded, "You remember?"
"It's hard to forget when Dokyeom kept rushing me to make one every so often for you." Wonwoo chuckled and dried his hands.
"It wasn't that often." Dokyeom defended himself.
"Yes it was." Mingyu commented without so much as a glance up.
Wonwoo spotted (y/n) reaching for her bag and quickly stopped her, "This one's on the house."
(y/n)'s shoulders fell in defeat. "Oh, come on. You've got to let me pay for at least one."
Wonwoo shook his head, adamant about his position. "You showing up here today should be celebrated, everything considered."
(y/n) gave Wonwoo a disappointed look but didn't push the issue further.
"Luna seems happy that you're here." Dokyeom commented taking in the dog's posture in (y/n)'s arms.
"I don't think I can ever let her go." (y/n) smiled sheepishly and cuddled the dog closer.
"I don't think she wants you to." Dokyeom smiled brightly and the sight warmed (y/n)'s heart.
"One Iced Americano for the lady who swept Luna off her feet." Wonwoo smiled warmly and placed (y/n)'s drink on the counter.
"Next one, I pay for." She stated as more of threat and picked up the drink.
"So you're seriously all better?" Dokyeom asked as they made their way over to a table.
"Yes, I really am okay." (y/n) nodded and giggled.
"I'm glad." Dokyeom sighed happily.
"Sorry for disappearing like that though." She apologized.
Dokyeom shook his head, "No need to apologize. Seriously don't feel bad."
"Would've been easier if I had asked for your number sooner." She puckered her lips in reflection.
Dokyeom's back straightened momentarily and he knew he had to ask before his courage ran back into its cage.
"How about I give you my number now?" He offered, still slightly unsure if she'll accept.
(y/n)'s bright smile returned as she looked at him, "That'd be fantastic."
A similar smile broke out onto Dokyeom's face and (y/n) fully knew that she liked looking at that face.
Dokyeom and (y/n) exchanged numbers and (y/n) spent a few seconds staring at the contact card with Dokyeom's name written on it. An involuntary giggle escaped her mouth and Dokyeom chuckled at her reaction. He knew he didn't want that giggle to ever stop.
"So," (y/n) spoke up and put her phone down on the table, "Tell me about the other doggos in here."
"With pleasure." Dokyeom scooted closer and introducing the dogs to (y/n), one by one.

The Short Lived Adventures of RAPH and Casey Jones
This is an old pic that was made for a zine that was never published. So I’ll leave it here. It might not ever be finished, but I think the story is decent enough on its own.
Part 1:
Casey was completely fine by herself.
Sure, her parents never really paid her any mind, but she never needed them to; Casey was a fast learner, and was able to cook, clean, and do pretty much anything the adults could do.
“Look!” Ten-year-old Casey held up an English vocabulary test, with an “100%” written in the corner in cursive. “I passed!”
“Honey,” her mother barely looked at her from her seat at her desk, “One hundred percent is the bare minimum. Anything less means you practically failed.”
There was always an empty space in the bleachers whenever Casey had a hockey game. She would cross her arms as she waited for her parents to pick her up and watched as the people in the audience rushed down and hugged their own children after a game, regardless of whether they won or lost. When her parents finally showed up, she sat in the car quietly as they drove.
Casey spent almost everyday after school at her Granny’s while her parents were at work. The old woman’s house was always warm, mostly because she was always baking; cakes, cookies, and especially her famous brownies - made with a special ingredient.
At twelve years old, Casey had failed a math test for the first time, and burst into tears as she walked through her Granny’s front door. “I’m a failure!”
“Sweetie, everyone fails every now and then,” her Granny wiped a tear from Casey’s cheek and got out an antique mixing bowl, “but I can tell you tried really hard. That’s what matters; that you don’t stop trying your best.”
Afterwards, Casey and her Granny spent the afternoon baking brownies, and that was when she was granted the knowledge of the secret ingredient. She swore her secrecy and never told anyone.
Of course, that was a while ago; her grandmother had passed away sometime afterwards. Her parents reacted with more emotion when Casey had shaved her head than when they attended the funeral.
They also seemed only mildly surprised when, at thirteen years old, Casey was accepted into the Foot Clan and never came back home.
There, Casey promised to herself to show the world just how much of a not-failure she really is! Even if she had to work with the most vile Clan in all the world to achieve it and release the Shredder, the ultimate evil, unto the world. She had worked above and beyond to get where she is, and no one could stop her!
At least, that’s what she thought before the Shredder disappeared, and with him, the Clan’s purpose. And way before those strange, overgrown turtles with no sense of honor or discipline showed up and destroyed their chances, time and time again.
Suddenly, the group she had worked with since she was a preteen, and the closest thing she had to any family, were dragged away by outside obligations she never understood.
Foot Brute and Lieutenant were better parents than her own, but, in the end, they were her bosses and coworkers, and no replacement for a family.
Sure, everyone else may have given up, but she would stay committed to the Clan’s ultimate vision, even if she had to use her dear Granny’s recipe for evil. Grandma CJ’s Brownies were an absolute bust, but she had to try something.
Then, she met this weird, giant, smelly rat with a Japanese accent dressed like a teenager who somehow turned out to be the father of those overgrown turtles.
And, as weird as it was, despite not even being human, he sat next to her and heard what she had to say; and, for those few minutes, it was almost like being next to her Granny again.
“Just because you failed doesn’t make you a failure.”
If she had been smarter, maybe she should have listened a bit harder to what he was saying. If she had been smarter, maybe she would have calmed down and talked to the girl that was beating up the Girl Scouts. There were so many opportunities to just talk.
But then the Shredder was restored, and she really thought it would be the return of her Clan’s glory. Even as she looked at the beaten down forms of her previous bosses. Even as she saw Splinter and his family struggling for their lives. Even as she realized winning would mean the end of everything, including her.
There was no more Clan. She was still alone. She was just alone with a giant evil suit of demon armor.
But, now, she wasn’t.
Even after everything, Splinter offered her an invitation into their...
Family.
------------------------------------------------------
He had invited her to the lair a few weeks after the fight with Shredder.
“I’m working at the Foot Shack. After my former clan disbanded, they got bought out by another company, Splinter, sir.” She squeezed the mug of tea in her hands.
“Just ‘Splinter’ is fine,” Splinter had opened a bag of chips, and was reclining in his seat. The turtles were out with April at the arcade, taking a break from repairing the lair. “Where are you staying? Do you have a place to live?”
“Yes, I actually have my own apartment.”
There was a moment of awkward silence. Splinter sighed. “Listen, Casey, I know that it’s probably hard having to... uh, sort things out by yourself-”
“What?! No, I’m fine!” She flapped her hand dismissively. “My life is fantastic! It’s definitely not in complete shambles after losing everything I know.” She blinked, realizing that she overshared, and collected herself. “I’m doing great.”
“I-I never said it was in shambles,” He massaged his temple with two clawed fingers, his beady eyes squinting in frustration. “Look, all I am saying is that, if you ever need help, or if you ever get lonely and just want to talk, I am here. And my sons would probably say the same thing. You’re a Hamato now, at least in spirit.”
Casey’s eyes widened, then she looked down. “Thank you, but I’m a very independent person. I’ll be sure to not bug you unless it’s an emergency.”
Splinter nodded, but he’d dealt with enough children to see that Casey was a bit lonely. Still, he said nothing.
For a good while, Casey stuck to what she said; she didn’t really come by the lair unless she really felt the need to or if they needed an extra set of hands with repairing.
But… occasionally, she found herself asking questions. She found out Michelangelo loved cooking, and somehow he got her to agree to bake her Granny’s brownies together. She realized that Leonardo wasn’t just annoying in battle, but all the time, and that she started getting more and more used to it, even occasionally laughing along. She found out while playing video games with them, that Donnatello was just as vicious as her, and that April was equally as competitive.
And Raph, well… they didn’t talk very much. But he seemed nice every time they spoke.
But she kept her distance. After all, it was better if she didn’t get too attached.
She occasionally goes down to the local hockey rink and plays a few rounds with total strangers, and usually gets kicked out due to a combo of delinquent children and complaining parents.
So, here she is, lying on her bed, staring blankly at her phone, with a half eaten sandwich laying on her chest, and old sweatpants that she’s been wearing for a week because her clothes are in the laundromat. For a ninja-slash-ex-cult-member, her life had fallen into a fairly mundane pattern.
Everything could always be worse. So why did she still feel like such a failure?
And for some reason, Casey found herself at the sewer grate. She didn’t even know why she came here, really.
She was about to turn back when a feminine voice spoke from behind her. “Hey, CJ, what’s up?”
She spun around. It was April.
“I was just coming to visit.” Casey tensed up. She hadn’t expected to run into someone else.
“Oh, me too!” She opened up the grate, and started climbing down the ladder. “You coming or what?”
Casey gulped. She couldn’t back out now.
------------------------------------------------------
Raph paced the lair, quietly groaning as he tapped his chin.
It had been about six months since the fight with Shredder, but another challenge had presented itself; cleaning up the lair after it had been almost completely demolished. Thankfully, with Draxum’s help and Donnie being able to scavenge some old tech that didn’t get destroyed and whip up some devices for reconstruction, the place was finally fixed up after about a month and a half.
Now what? Well, in Leo’s words, it was the time for “rest and relaxation.”
That was pretty easy for the rest of his family to do.
Leo’s entire existence hinged on “rest and relaxation”; Mikey has an assortment of hobbies to keep him busy; Donnie had a tight schedule trying to repair all of his broken inventions; April was trying to adjust to all of the changes at school due to all of New York recovering from the recent Battle Nexus catastrophe; and Splinter, of course, was parked in front of the TV, finally at peace after the Shredder was defeated, and helping himself to milk and cake.
Raph should be relaxing, or at least recovering from all that’s happened to them. The fight with the Shredder was the most stressful and terrifying time of their lives. They lost their Gram-Gram, and even if she was now able to rest with their ancestors and her father, it still stung.
But it’s been such a long time since he’s been in a real fight, and he can tell he’s going a little bit stir-crazy.
Of course, the turtles would spend a lot of time out of the lair; but whenever Raph gets a call on the phone, he finds himself hoping it’s some kind of an emergency, only to turn out to be Todd calling them about the puppy farm, or Leo pestering Senior Hueso with an order for pick-up. It seemed like even their strongest enemies have gone on hiatus as well; there was no word of Big Mama as of late, and every other major bad guy they fought recently seemed to have been exhausted by the Shredder ordeal as well.
Raph’s usual sparring partner, Frankenfoot, is absolutely wonderful, but fighting him wasn’t exactly what Raph had in mind; it was fun, but couldn’t really be compared to the thrill of a real fight.
“Come on, guys,” Raph stood in front of the screen, blocking Leo and Mikey’s view of a Jupiter Jim rerun while Pops was passed out on the couch, snoring, a bag of chips lying open on his stomach. “We’ve been cooped up in the lair for a million years. Who wants to go wreck some bad guys?” He pounded his fist in his opposite hand for emphasis.
“Raph, I can’t see!” Mikey waved his hand in a dismissive way as he said it, and leaned to peek around his older brother and continue watching the screen.
“Ugh, we’ve been over this,” Leo exasperated from his spot on the ground, on his stomach and his head resting on his propped arms. “No crime fighting while we’re on vacation! This is the time to chillax, my guy.”
“How long are we gonna be chillaxing, exactly?” Raph put his hands on his hips, an inquisitive look on his face, even if, deep down, he knew what response he’d get.
“I don’t know, until some other crazy evil mutant guy tries to take over the city? There’s bound to be another one of those eventually.”
“What, so we just wait until some evil mastermind has some evil plan and gets all of New York in their evil clutches? It’s our job to make sure that doesn’t happen.” Raph tried to summon the energy he usually exudes when he attempts to make a rousing speech, but the rolling eyes and groans from his youngest brothers quickly made its effect futile.
“You know,” Donnie said from the back of the room, the other three having not noticed him walk in, “We did, oh, I don’t know, save all of New York City, take down Big Mama’s Battle Nexus scheme, and, most importantly, defeat our bloodline’s greatest enemy?!”
Raph furrowed his brow, his sharp fang digging into his lower lip.
“We deserve an indefinite break, and I need it, because I actually refuse to do any fighting until I have all my stuff back online. I’d love to fight with only my impeccable mind, but let’s be realistic.” The sandwich in his hand was brought to his face and he swallowed it whole. Donnie knew he had made an excellent point.
“Don’t worry,” Mikey beamed, tucking his arms and legs into his shell, “We’ll get back into the groove of things before you know it!”
“Yeah,” Leo agreed, “Think of it as, like, you know, self-care. Sometimes, you need a break from what you’re used to. Now, can you move out of the way?”
Raph sulked out of his siblings’ view of the screen and sunk into a beanbag, next to the couch their father was snoring in.
------------------------------------------------------
“Hey, guys!” The turtles turn around to see April and... Foot Recruit walk in.
Raph didn’t really know what to think of Foot Recruit, or Casey, as she preferred to be called. Pops insisted that she wasn’t dangerous anymore, but it was hard for him not to be a little wary; I mean, come on, she used to work with the Shredder!
 She’d been over only a handful of times over the past few months, usually to speak with Splinter and Mikey.
“Casey! April!” Mikey stuck his hands out of his shell in joy. He ran over and hugged them both. “It’s been a while.”
“Hey, Apes. And, hi to you too, Casey.” Leo kicked his legs up behind him.
“Above ground has been pretty hectic,” April leaned on Donnie’s shoulder as she spoke, “Everyone has been freaking out about disappearing from New York for a few days. Relaxing on a yacht sure beats coming back to the city in shambles. And finding another job is so hard when everyone’s paranoid we’re gonna all disappear again. Ugh, I wish we did, then I’d get another break!”
“Well, if you want a job, you can help me repair what’s left of my s- I mean, S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. The Shredder tore him apart.” Donnie put his hands on his hips and relaxed his posture to cover his slip-up.
“Aw, your cute robot son isn’t repaired yet?” April teased.
As the two bickered while walking towards the lab, Raph looked back at Casey, who was standing by the entrance, visibly tense.
“Hey, Casey. Um, why are you here?” Raph asked innocently, not realizing how rude he sounded.
“Smooth,” Leo chimed in unhelpfully.
Before he could take it back, Casey spoke, with a glare on her face. “I’m here for the orange one.”
Raph blinked. “Huh?”
“We’re gonna bake brownies!” Mikey clarified, his chest puffed out with pride. “Casey decided that I’m worthy of learning an old family recipe.”
“Yes!” Casey grinned, in a way that was far too menacing for someone talking about brownies. “I decided that, as a new member of your- um…” clan? Group? Committee?
“...Family?” Raph assisted.
“Uh, yes, that,” she turned shy for a few brief seconds, only to return to her previous bravado, pumping her fist in the air, “I will honor you with the knowledge of my grandmother’s most nefarious secret!”
------------------------------------------------------
Raph peeked into the kitchen as Mikey and Casey got to work. Of course, he trusted Mikey; but he had a hunch that Casey might be up to something.
Or maybe the boredom was just making him a bit more paranoid than usual.
Dirty dishes, half-full cups and brownie mix were strewn about the kitchen counter. Whatever this recipe pertained, it must be pretty intense.
“And, now, for the final ingredient. This one was given to me by my grandmother.” Casey pulled a canister of brown powder. She leaned over and whispered close to Mikey’s head. Whatever she was saying, Raph couldn’t hear.
Mikey gasped. “PUMPKIN SPICE?!”
Casey shushed him, then yelled herself. “It’s a secret, remember?!” She poured a generous amount into the mixing bowl full of batter.
The two of them looked so happy baking together, and Raph felt a pit of guilt in his stomach for assuming the worst. He really needed to chill out.
------------------------------------------------------
“Wait, so let me get this straight,” Leo sunk into the bean bag chair, “You’re a fan of Lou Jitsu, right?”
“That is correct.” Casey was sitting stiffly in her seat. Her expressions were intense, like she was about to strangle someone, but Raph had realized pretty quickly that this was just her default.
“You have all of the movies memorized?”
“Of course! I used his guidelines for self improvement in my schemes to take over the world! I mean, that’s not really relevant now, but-”
“And you said you spend almost all of your available money on Lou Jitsu merch?”
“I hide them all so my guests don’t see.”
“And, yet, you’ve never watched a Jupiter Jim film? The Jupiter Jim, his longtime franchise rival and co-star in Jupiter Jim Vs Lou Jitsu?” Leo clutched at his chest, as he held up the DVD case of the movie he was talking about for emphasis.
“Leo,” Raph warned, looking up from his phone, “don’t make her feel bad-”
Leo chuckled. “Oh ho ho, trust me I won’t. I’m definitely putting on a Jupiter Jim Vs. The Galaxy Riders Part 1 and Part 2, and you are going to love it!”
Casey cackled ominously. “You really think this ‘Jupiter Jim-’” She made quotation marks with her fingers for emphasis, “-can measure up to the greatness that is Lou Jitsu? Fine, I guess we’ll just have to see.”
Raph ended up dozing off after the fifth film, and woke up to see Casey and his brother still openly debating whether Lou Jitsu would beat Jupiter Jim if they were both in a desert completely unarmed and at full strength.
------------------------------------------------------
“I’m not scared of much,” Donnie mentions offhandedly one day, while Raph was doing a bicep curl, “but she -”
He points to Casey eating a sandwich like a hyena, while April sat next to her, texting.
“She terrifies me to no end.”
Donnie’s strange relationship with their new friend took Raph a while to comprehend. Then it became clear as day. If anyone could match Casey in moral ambiguity, it was his immediate younger brother.
“I made you a little gift,” the softshell grinned smugly, as he handed Casey what looked like a metal hockey stick.
“Oh, um,” Casey's eyes were wide, and a little watery, and her lips were in a warbly smile. “Thank you… no one’s ever given me something so nice.”
Donnie grinned. “Press the button on the side.”
When she did, the widest end of the hockey stick flipped open like a lighter, and a stream of fire shot out of the tip. Casey’s tears of joy gave way to maniacal laughter. “Those kids at the hockey rink won’t know what hit ‘em!”
Donnie joined her in glee, his eyes and teeth shining menacingly in the light of the flames. Raph watched in mild horror (He was plenty used to Donnie’s antics), at least until the fire alarm sounded and they were all drenched from the sprinklers.
------------------------------------------------------
Another month had passed since Casey started coming around, and Raph seemed like the only one in the lair who hadn’t quite jived with her yet. Sure, his suspicion had pretty much subsided, and he liked her company plenty, but the two of them hadn’t really clicked.
However, he noticed some slight changes over time. Casey’s eyes had bags under them which were more obvious in brighter lights, and sometimes she fell asleep on April’s shoulder (and snored louder than his Pops, somehow). Sometimes, there were hints of sadness on her face, even when she was laughing along with everyone.
Raph didn’t mention it for fear of being rude, but he couldn’t help his concern. After all, if she was upset, she probably wouldn’t mention to him all of the people.
------------------------------------------------------
Hockey wasn’t a sport Raph and his brothers knew much about, but he couldn’t help but get excited as Casey gushed about it, holding tightly onto the treasured tech-hockey stick Donnie had gifted her, wearing a huge grin on her face.
The two humans and four turtles (disguised as humans, of course) were just entering the hockey rink. The hall to the auditorium was cold and echoey.
“I come here every other Friday. The regulars here know my face, and they fear it. It’s ‘cause they know I’ll decimate everyone in my path!” She pumped her fist as she spoke, a sinister grin on her face, before she caught herself and straightened out. “Well, I do until the rink’s supervisors kick me out for making a scene and being mean to children.”
“Don’t sweat it, Casey,” Donnie spoke up, “You’re not the only one whose been kicked out of establishments for scaring kids.”
“Uh huh, exactly!” April agreed a bit too eagerly, and Raph looked back to see the distant, traumatized look in her eyes, and he could tell she was remembering the screams of children and the  sinister laughter of animatronics at a certain pizza joint.
The six teens got to the rink’s auditorium, and put their bags down on the bleachers. There weren’t too many people around.
Mikey whistled. “This place is massive!”
As Raph put on a maroon hoodie and pulled on his skates, Casey rolled onto the rink, over to a huddle of teenagers wearing hockey gear. “Hey!”
One of the teenagers - a boy with messy brown hair covering his eyes - responded. “Oh, you again. Guys, look, it’s that crazy girl from last week.”
“The name is Cassandra Jones!” Casey pulled down the hockey mask she was wearing and held up her stick. “I’m challenging you to another round! Did you really think you’d escape my wrath?!”
The kids started laughing. “You challenge us every time we’re here, and you always lose. What makes today so different?”
Casey laughed. “Well, for one thing, I’ve got my own team now, so you better get ready to go crying to your mommy!”
The group hadn’t stopped laughing, even as Casey walked back to the bleachers. Raph raised a brow. “Uh, what was all of that?”
She looked down. “Those are my enemies,” She clenched her fists, “A group of jerks who manage to beat me every time I come here.”
Raph paused for a second. The look on her face was determined, but had a hint of sadness to it. Raph understood how she felt; wanting to fight, but getting beaten down time and time again. He’d realized a while ago that he didn’t have to do it alone; and neither did she.
Raph put an arm around Casey’s shoulders, and cupped a hand to his mouth, shouting to the teenagers from across the rink. “Hey, knuckleheads! You get ready for a match; you’re not just dealing with Cassandra Jones anymore! you’re dealing with the Mad Dogs, now!”
“Yeah, right!” One of the kids, a girl with a ponytail, shouts back.
He turned to face his brothers and April, who were sitting on the bleachers, their attention already on Raph from his shouting. “Hey, those guys over there are saying we’re gonna lose! What do we say to that?!”
“Oh ho ho, I like this energy!” Leo stood up on the bleachers, joining in the hype. April and Mikey stood up beside him.
“Yeah, you chumps aren’t even at our level!”
“Ya’ll ain’t seen nothing yet!”
Donnie stood up slowly, his arms crossed from the cold. “Yeah, we’ll definitely beat you! But-” He switched to his normal volume, “let’s not make promises we can’t keep.”
Raph dismissed him, and looked at Casey, who was smiling. Together, they were able to beat the Shredder. This would be a piece of cake.
------------------------------------------------------
“Are we done? My mom is here to pick me up,” One of the kids, a girl with pigtails, mentioned as she walked towards her belongings on the bleachers.
Raph was gasping for air from his spot on the cold ground. Hockey was hard. Like, really, really hard.
In hindsight, their loss made sense; this was the turtles and April’s first time playing hockey, and even Casey, who’d been playing since she was a kid, wasn’t able to beat these kids. They really were just that good.
“Is that all you’ve got?!” Leo had fallen in front of the goal, two huge purple bruises visible on his face; one on his forehead, and the other under his eye, popping out from his green skin and red birthmarks.
Mikey was crying on his knees, while April patted his shell, cussing out one of the kids who she felt pushed him too hard. Even as the kid was walking away. “And another thing-”
Donnie lay flat nearby, looking like a purple stain on the white shiny floor. He was never good at sports, but he tried. Geez, it was almost more embarrassing, with just how hard he tried.
------------------------------------------------------
They found a vending machine, and after Raph gave Leo a cold soda can to hold over his bruises, he walked past Casey, sitting with her head in her hands.
“Hey,” He placed a hand on her shoulder, and looked around to see if the others were watching. April, Mikey and Donnie were going off about losing the match, while Leo sat dejectedly in the corner, nursing his injuries. “Are you alright?”
She looked up, tears in her eyes, and her lower lip wobbling. She hastily rubbed at her face with her sleeve, her eyeliner smearing. “I’m...I’m fine.”
“Is this about us losing?”
“No, no, it’s not that,” She sighed. “It’s a lot of different things- It’s just…”
She trailed off, and Raph sat down next to her on the bleacher. He realized this had definitely been bubbling up for a while. If only he’d talked to her sooner.
“Ugh, all I’ve ever wanted was to be a success. Taking over the world was everything for me- helping the Foot, working for the Shredder, making that whole brownie pyramid-scheme. But now? I don’t have anything. I’ve hit rock bottom. Now, I’m stuck in a stupid rivalry with a bunch of kids in a hockey rink.”
She began to cry again. “What am I going to do? Am I just doomed to be a failure?”
“Just ‘cause you’re not taking over the world doesn’t make you a failure. Most people just stick to regular, everyday stuff and they turn out fine.”
“It’s not just about taking over the world,” Casey sighed. “I don’t have a purpose. No Clan, no commitments, no future. It’s like everything I do is a failure. I’m a failure.”
Raph felt himself start to tear up, too. What she was saying felt way too familiar. “You’re not the only one whose failed.”
“Huh?”
“My Pops told us we were supposed to die in order to protect the Dark Armor. We failed to do that, but we realized how messed up that was, and we decided to do our own thing. And it totally worked out for us, ‘cause we ended up destroying Shred-face once and for all.”
He stood, wiping the small tears from the corners of his eyes. “Think about it. So what that you don’t got a purpose? I get it, but your ‘purpose’ was handed to you by those Foot-faces. What do you wanna do? What do you wanna succeed at?”
Casey sat quietly for a few moments, thinking, and Raph feared that he might have said something hurtful. He was never as savvy with people as Leo or Mikey.
Then she spoke. “I spent all of my life trying to be the best, even if it meant being the biggest bad guy in the world. Now, I want to be the best good guy!”
Her expression softened. “I guess what I really want - I want to stop people who were like me once. I want to stop evil people who want to control others. But...how?”
Raph thought. Then, an idea struck him. “You and me can team up!”
“For what?”
“I was a vigilante for a little while. I mean, I used to be, but I guess since I was already part of a team, and with the whole Shredder thing, I just sort of stopped. But, since my bros are on hiatus, you and me could fight crime undercover!”
Casey was looking at her lap, her head bowed. Raph cleared his throat. “I mean, only if you wanna, it’s just a suggestion-”
“That sounds amazing.” Casey looked up at him in awe, her dark eyes glossy with unshed tears. Suddenly, she stands up, and pumps a fist into the air. “Raph and Casey, the most feared vigilante duo in all of New York!”
“Yeah, Go big or go home!”  Raph pounded his fist into his other hand in excitement.
“Oh me gosh, stop yelling!” The two look behind them to Leo, still holding the can to his face. He turned in the direction of his twin. “Donnie, get me another can! This one’s warm!”
Casey was giving him a big smile, a far cry from her previous mood. Raph smiled back. Finally, he’d be able to go out and fight crime again; and this time, he wouldn’t be at it alone.

A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN | LANGA X FEM!READER
Skating wasn’t very hard once you got used to it . Langa was supposed to race against someone called the angel of death, she had grown a reputation for sending people to the hospital and sometimes even after life. Reki was still trying to get Langa to back out of the race by bringing up anyone that had died or were very badly injured that went against this so called ‘angle’. reki liked to call her the spawn of satan.
Reki and Langa were waiting for the ‘angel of death’ while Reki was telling Langa all her tricks and what to look out for. Just then she started skating their way to the starting line. she had all white clothing with a necklace and earrings that had red gems in them “aww looks like I got another admirer” she said, noticing Langa was staring a little too long.
Of course Reki got mad and started trying to talk shit about her with shadow and miya but it didn’t faze her at all. Everyone was waiting with anticipation to see them race. Just then they got the signal to go, both racers speeding to win.
They got to an area that looked like a club with people cheering, just when the angel of death thought she was going to win Langa came out of nowhere and somehow got in front of her.
Of course Reki and the others were celebrating. Before Langa could tell her he would love to skate with them again she was gone.
The next day was no different, only that Langa had the race and her on his mind. He decided he wanted to try and look for her to see who she really was. Somehow Miya knew her personally and said she was no different then she was at S but Langa still wanted to see it for himself.
Miya decided to take the group to where she worked. The group found themselves standing in front of a hair salon “anyone need a haircut” Joe said, trying to joke around instead of answering him the group just walked in. once the bell rang a woman appeared and asked if any of them had an appointment “no ma'am we're just here to see (y/n)” miya said in a more child like voice. The woman let them sit and told them that (y/n) would be out in just a few minutes. As if on cue (y/n) and a coworker came out of the back room with brooms to sweep the floors as the other worker set up a small speaker. The group decided to just watch to see how long it would take her to notice they were there.
The two workers were jamming out, singing and dancing while sweeping and whipping the mirrors. Langa just stared at them with a small smile, he didn’t know work could be so fun during clean up hours. The other worker seemed to notice them but could care less,they started singing with (y/n) as the song Bubblegum Bitch came on.
The two looked like they were having a lot of fun when, just then (y/n) sang “oh dear diary I met a boy, he made my doll heart light up with joy” just then (y/n) noticed the skaters from the corner of her eye but thought she was just seeing things so she continued the line “oh dear diary we fell apart, welcome to the life of electro heart” (y/n) sang while spinning only to stop facing right in front of the skaters. she stopped singing and just blankly stared at the group not knowing what to do “took you long enough, i was getting tired” miya said interrupting her train of thought “huh” it took her a while to fully comprehend what was going on until it hit her like a bus “HUH? MIYA WHAT THE HELL I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU NOT TO BRING ANYONE FROM S HERE” she yelled as miya just chuckled.
The group decided to help out with cleaning while (y/n) was still embraced at the fact they saw her singing. Once everyone had finished cleaning they all started walking out of the salon as it was way past time to lock up. Langa never got a chance to ask (y/n) any questions so he figured he'd do it another time.
The next night (y/n) had come back to S to race someone else, but she made eye contact with Langa before the race started and he noticed she had a black eye and what looked like a handprint on her neck. He began to worry but before he could ask the race started. He could tell that (y/n) wasn’t having as much fun as she did racing him. What gave it away even more was half way through the race (y/n) had completely given up and slowed down.
The race ended and Langa saw (y/n) start walking away with her head hanging low. Langa let Reki know he would be ‘going home’ then he started walking towards (y/n). “Hey you ok” he said walking next to (y/n). She looked at him surprised, not expecting to see him “yeah I’m fine just had a bad day” she said trying to get away from Langa but it didn’t work.
Next thing she knew she was being hugged by Langa. “What happened to your eye” he said with concern “nothing really I was just getting bullied like every day” (y/n) said, it wasn’t a lie she had been bullied a lot just because the girls at her school think that ‘girls shouldn't own a skateboard’ (y/n) didn’t have any time to say anything else before Langa picked her up like a small child. She didn’t say anything and just relaxed her head now resting in the crook of his neck with her arms around his neck. She fell asleep.
When she woke up she was in a bed in a room she didn’t know, she looked around, just then the door opened “oh you're awake” when she looked to see who was there it was Langa. He laid down next to her and put his arm around her. She laid down and moved over closer to Langa and soon fell back asleep.

“Pathetic” Ted Spankoffski x Reader
a gender neutral, reverse hurt/comfort fic
warnings: cursing; mild sexual comments; a very tired dyslectic author
Lately, things haven’t been going so well for Ted. Charlotte broke things off for good and it was far from pretty, the atmosphere was crushing to be honest. And so with time he latched onto Paul more and more, using his best friend as a distraction from his own life and failiures. Unfortunately his companion seemed to be a bit distracted and not very eager to spend time, at least less so than usually. Ted pinned the fault on a crush of his, Emma, one of the baristas at a nearby caffee. She was hot and would be great if onyl she didn’t speak, or at least that’s what he told Paul. His friend didn’t seem to agree for some reason. But that’s how it was, in Ted’s opinion. She always got offended for so many small things and tried to make him out to be the bad guy of every confrontation. But it wasn’t Ted’s fault that their uniform shorts were so short and besides one or two comments were just a given considering how good her and her coworkers looked in them. But she always had something to say, a name to call him or even a complaint to make, if her boss was around. But even then it was all fun and games. Until one day it wasn’t.
It all started “innocently” as he considered it. He spotted Paul using the stairs on the opposide side of the building. Some time ago his friend had stopped using the ones by Ted’s office, for one reason or another. And so they made their way together, Ted trying to get some information out of him as to how things with Emma were. Finally after a conversation more painful than pulling teeth Paul announced that he was going to ask Emma out. It was a big step and it surprised Ted but after some teasing he promised not to blow this. So far so good and it wasn’t until they stood in the line, inside the cafe, that it went downhill.
It was meant to be a harmless comment, he knew Emma found them at least a bit funny too, for sure. Nothing bad, he just asked whet else could she do for a tip if she didn’t want to sing. She already looked very annoyed, he never expected her to appreciate his humour and so he nudged Paul saying that he might give her a different tip if she didn’t want his money. That, for reasons unknown to Ted, crossed the line and Emma whipped around to face them frustrated. She turned to Paul to announce that although she liked him around if his friend was going “to come around only to be a gross creep” then they might as well just go to starbucks instead, since she “didn't go to this shitty job to get harassed”
Ted didn’t even get to say that technically, he wasn’t doing anything wrong because Paul who was now done with awkwardly apologizing to his very pissed off crush, dragged him out of the Beanies, furious. They didn’t talk and to be honest Ted started to feel a bit anxious inside, like a child feels when they tip off their parent in public and know what will await them home.
But that was just how he was! A sleazeball, a jerk, a horny bastard at best. He didn’t want to accept that same persona that was now basically his whole self could have gotten him in trouble with his best friend. And he was never a fan of feeling guilty in general so as soon as he realised that Paul wasn’t going to address it he turned to the first person that asked what happened.
It was Bill who questioned the situation first and although he asked Paul what was up the younger man seemed not to be in the mood to talk and so there was Ted, ready to offer his, very objective, point of view. Leaning on the wall of Bill’s cubicle he announced, trying to sound like he didn't care that he obviously did something bad.
“His grumpy barista got pissed for no reason” chuckling nervously he exclaimed glancing over at Paul working on his computer and ignoring him “it’s not my fault she’s so stiff, alright? And there are many more girls than her, it’s her loss, ey?”
No response. Bill seemed to glance at Paul pitifully.
“Oh, come on! You can do better anyways! And as your best friend I-”
“Can you shut up?” Paul didn’t raise his voice but he as well might have, the tone he was using was way worse. He fully turned to face his older coworker, and for a very long time in a while Ted was, in fact quiet. As he spoke however he became more visibly frustrated “Can you finally stop following me around when I don’t want to be followed, trying to insert yourself into EVERY conversation i have and ruining everything with your gross comments? Why can’t you take the hint? We are not friends, you- you’re just this guy, a guy from work that’s just there when no one wants him to and is just too... pathetic for anyone to directly tell him that''
Ted’s face went blank as Paul let out his years worth of frustrations.
Ted often heard those words. “Pathetic” yes, he was familiar with the term more than anyone. It was alongside such titles as “annoying” “sad” “lonely” “disposable” “a nobody” something he heard often. Sometimes from Sylvia who worked on the top floor and had no real fun qualities besides looking hot (in his opinion). Other times from Emma who would be a decent friend if she wasn't so annoyingly ‘horny for Paul’.
Most of the time he said them himself though. It was normal, you know. A truth he accepted without any brooding except for those lonely nights in his apartment where he drank and let his emotions out. But it hurt no less to hear such remarks be thrown at him from someone like Paul. Someone who, despite his flaws seemed to be genuinely liked by people around him and wanted around. But if Paul wasn't his friend did he have anyone else at all? Not only in his job but in general. After all he didn’t have much besides his work life.
In his youth he was a nerdy little kid that quickly bloomed into a bitter, insecure adult, no magical glow up or ‘it gets better after high school” crap. When he got this job sometime after college, still a mess after that happened a few autumns earlier, he thought he found his place.
Even if he never felt very wanted he liked it here a lot. Only now had he realized he might have been the only one to see it as such. Was he just as sad as everyone apparently saw him as?
That moment made him way too conscious of his own existence and choices, it was no longer a matter of convincing himself that it's all in his head now that the truth was out and clear, the words hanging in the heavy air seemingly for the whole world to see.
And to be fair he had no arguments against the claim, because how sad that was to consider his coworkers, coworkers that apparently hated his guts, the closest people he had?
Because sure, Bill was stiff and boring but there was a certain dose of fun in their usual banter. Sylvia always knew all the gossip from the office and wasn’t all that bad at times. Melissa was always fun to hang around and even brought him lunch on a few ocassions. Even the intern that joined merely two months before, (Y/n), was someone he accepted as a friend. Not to mention Paul and Charlotte, two of the closest people he had, both of which didn’t want him around. And from what Paul said no one else did either. He had no reason not to believe it.
It took him only a few seconds to get it together when Paul finished.Ted always had a habit of getting very obviously defensive when his ego was hurt.
“Okay, whatever!” he shrugged angrily “Well, it’s not your problem then! I know when I’m not wanted”
He made his way to his office, away from Paul and Bill and all those people who he considered to be his friends.
*
The whole day was a bit messy, ever since (Y/n)’s foot stepped into the office they were sent on endless errands by their superior, Mr Davidson. Whatever happened up above in the chain it created one hell of a mess in the documents and so (Y/n) along with Melissa were the busiest they’ve been in a while.
Hence when they finally found time to get some well deserved coffee most of their friends were on their way back to CCRP.
That led to a lot of confusion when after stepping onto their floor they were met with an unusually tense atmosphere. They must have missed something important, they thought.
It wasn’t a long time ago when they joined the team and they never felt like the new person they were and all the efforts at staying purely professional faded with first friendships. And as much as they tried to,they became fond of their coworkers quickly. And so the current mood around them concerned (Y/n).
This wasn’t snooping around, they told themselves approaching Bill to ask what was up. He was a nice man, older than them and equally unskilled in the tech field but overall a very sweet man. If there was something to be concerned about he’d tell them for sure.
The day was almost over, one hour was left until Ted could go home and drink himself to sleep. But for now he just sat in his chair, staring blankly on the screen of his computer displaying a familiar black and orange webpage he was unusually uninterested in, mindlessly squishing his old and used up stress ball. The busiest hours were over and all files seemed to finally be back in place and safe and so he didn’t have much more to keep himself busy with.
He was angry, upset and hurt. Already keeping so many negative emotions inside, those new ones threatened to spill over the edges of the walls he built over the years but so far he managed to keep it together as much as he could.
And that’s when someone knocked on his door.
“What?” he sounded just like he felt, his own voice betraying him greatly. The person on the other side must’ve taken it as an invitation because soon they revealed themselves to be (Y/n). It wasn’t the last person he wanted to see, sure, but it was only because he didn’t want to see any of them equally. Maybe Paul a bit more than the rest “What do you want?”
“I heard what happened and-” they began, watching him carefully. Ted felt even more miserable under their gaze, truly pathetic and judged with his emotions on display. But there was no more space left for him to push them further down and ignore.
“Great, you came here to tell me how much you hate me too, or what?” he scoffed giving them a bitter look “Because I ‘acted like an asshole’?”
“You did from what I know” they responded. It wasn’t something he didn’t expected to hear but he felt even worse hearing it come from (Y/n). They were someone he had his eyes on for some time but never got to try anything. First, because he was with Charlotte and, as much of a jerk as he considered himself to be, he would never forgive himself for being just like Sam. Later when she ended things it was just too painful to jump back into ‘his game’ as he called it. As he always believed, he wasn’t able to fall in love. He did so once in college and never again. It was easier to believe than to face his fear of rejection and not being enough again. Sure, he didn’t exactly love (Y/n) and even if he could do it at all he probably wouldn't, knowing them for two or three months tops. Those sorts of feelings though, weren’t distant at all and their arrival was, at this point, almost inevitable. And so to hear them stand against him, even if rightfully so, hit him in a way he never anticipated. Hence his confused expression when they added “But I came here to check on you, you’ve been locked in here awfully long...”
“I was busy” he barked back quickly returning to his defensive tone. They sometimes asked him things like this one for no apparent reason as to why would they want to know that. He never fully gave in, only sometimes in passing throwing one or two passive-aggressive remarks referring to his situation with Charlotte and such.
“Bullshit” they raised their eyebrows looking down at him. If it wasn’t for the fact he felt anything but up for joking he’d point out how unusual it was to hear them curse. Unamused they added, awaiting his response “Your screen reflects on the glass behind you. So?”
“’So’ you can leave” with Paul’s words still vividly playing in his head he avoided their gaze. The possibility that they thought of him so lowly seeming very overbearing and terrible all of a sudden “I’m fine, alright? So what else you came here for”
“You know acting like this never worked on me, right?” they took the seat opposite to him, still acting very unbothered by his aggressive demeanour, maybe a bit impatient.
“And why do you even want to know that, huh? I mean really, (Y/n), I know you’re new around here but you really don’t have to kiss ass to-”
“Get over yourself, will you? If you’d like to know I was worried” their frown was gone almost as soon as it appeared as they went one, seemingly letting their words fall from their mouth freely “And yeah! You cross many lines, I’m not surprised Emma was mad, whatever you said to her. But you’re still someone I care about, as a person. And you’re not that bad most of the time, you know?”
“If you really want to have a place to stay over the weekend it wouldn’t hurt to ask more nicely, you know” Ted jumped between acts and masks, desperate to find one strong enough to hide whatever that was that made his expression soften.
“Look, I came here on my own but if you want things to go back to how they were you’ll really need to drop the act” they sighed, gaining a bit more of a serious tone.
“And you tell me that? It was Paul who decided to call me a lonely pathetic asshole” Ted knew well only one of those things actually came from Paul but if there was even the smallest possibility to have someone disagree with what he and others thought of him he’d gladly take it, even if it wouldn’t be honest. But what was more pathetic than fishing for a surely insincere ‘oh no, you’re not!’?
“And he regretted it right after, I spoke to him, really. I’m not going to try to make you shake each other’s hands and apologize, you can do that on your own if you want to. I’m just saying you both screwed up, there isn’t one person to blame”
“Okay, (Y/n)” he sighed “That’s cool of you to try and be moral like that but I don’t need to talk or make up with anyone so you either want to cheer me up my way or you can get back to work”
He let his eyes travel up and down their body freely, assured by their earlier statements and a bit relieved that they didn’t share Paul’s opinion. He looked back up when they stood up, torning to the door. Just before he could mentally curse himself out for ruining it they stopped.
“Tell you what, it’s Friday. I’ll make something up to get out of softball practice and we can go grab a drink” they said grabbing the doorknob “That’s the closest I’ll get to doing it ‘your way’. What do you say?”
“Wait really?” it was rare to see him truly surprised like that but it was the last thing he was expecting to come from them.
“Yeah, I can show you a cool place” they smiled walking out and turning back for the last time “come by my desk in an hour and we’ll be good to go”
The door closed leaving him alone again in a much brighter office.
Ted felt a small smile form on his face, a geniuine one too. Things were awful and he didn’t even want to think about how (Y/n) made him feel or how awkward things were going to be in the office from now on. But even if nothing was alright yet, it seemed that he was getting a bit closer to ‘okay’ and that was more than enough.

Hospital Nights- JJ Maybank
Tumblr media
(Not my gif!)
Request:
"Can you do a prompt for JJ, where the store that he works at gets robbed and the robber shoots him and all the characters have to cope with the fact that JJ might die. I understand if you don't want to xx💕
Word count: 3,305
Warnings: blood, hospitals, shootings, guns, hospitals, cursing, sadness
I cried writing this one too😭
It was like any other day for JJ Maybank, he worked at a local retail store. He told you he wanted to pick up as many shifts as he could so he could spoil you. You told him that he didn't need to shower you with things; just being with him made you happy enough. You kissed JJ and told him to have a good day before he left for work. Little did you guys know that everything was about to change.
It was a relaxing Tuesday morning, the store had a few customers in it. JJ and his coworker Amy stood behind the register as a man in a black sweatshirt and jeans walked in. "Good morning!" His coworker greeted the man who acknowledged them with a nod.
The man strolled down the isles slowly, one hand in his pocket and one hand picking up random object's. He picked up a bag of chips and soda before walking up to the counter and placing it down. JJ was about to check him out before he pulled out a loaded pistol.
JJ's eyes widened in fear, "give me everything you have in both registers." The man demanded, customers that were near immediately ran out of the store and out to safety.
JJ held both hands up in surrender as the man made his way around the counter, his gun trained straight on Amy. "Okay, okay. I'm getting the money now." JJ said as he opened one of the registers.
"Man hurry up!" The robber yelled as he suddenly began to fidget in his stance. JJ pulled out the cash and wrapped a rubber band around it. He made his way to the other register and opened it.
Instead of reaching for the money inside, he reached below the counter and grabbed a metal pipe that was stored there in case something like this were to happen. In what felt like a millisecond, JJ knocked the guy on the side of the head with the pipe.
"Amy, go!" JJ yelled as she jumped over the counter and out of the store, running around the building to see a couple cowering. "We called the police as soon as we left!" The woman said in tears, still terrified. Amy couldn't catch her breath, she was mortified of what would happen;  from a distance, sirens could be heard.
The robber groaned in pain as JJ tackled him to the ground, the gun flying across the floor. The two fought, JJ on top of the man, throwing punches at his face. The robber headbutted him, knocking him off as he scrambled for the gun.
Before JJ could process it, a loud shot filled the air and there was a sharp pain in his lower chest. Everything went in slow motion as another shot rang out, this time the bullet going into him under his peck.
JJ fell to the floor as he cried out in pain, curling up in a ball as his clothes began to soak in his own blood. The robber stared wide eyed at what he had done, but simply grabbed the money and ran out of the store, only to be stopped with a baton to the knee by the cops. Amy heard the gunshots go off, her heart dropping when she saw the robber only had bruises.
She ran in and saw JJ lying helplessly on the floor, clutching his wounds, his sobs filled her ears as she fell to her knees, her hands keeping pressure on his wounds. "Hey hey hey you're gonna be okay. Help! Somebody fucking help him!" Amy screamed out as medics ran into the room with a stretcher.
The medics carefully picked the injured boy off of the ground and placed him onto the stretcher. Amy looked down at her hands, her head feeling dizzy when she saw the blood covering every inch of them.
"Y/N." JJ mumbled as he was lifted into the ambulance. "She'll be right there when you wake up Maybank!" Amy screamed out to him as she cried. Police officers came up to the girl and had to ask her questions about the events that had happened. She couldn't properly form sentences, her mouth had gotten dry and she felt as if she was going to be nauseous.
"I have to get his girlfriend down to the hospital. Please." Was the only words she could get out. The officers nodded as they finished their notes. "You can borrow his phone to make the call. You okay to drive?"
Amy blankly nodded as she was given the phone, her fingers dialing your number. It rang for a few seconds before you picked up.
"Hello?"
"Y/N you need to get down to the hospital right now." Amy rasped as she anxiously tapped her foot. "Why? What happened? Are you okay?"
"JJ got shot." Was all Amy could say. You stopped breathing for a second as you felt like everything stopped. Your face got pale, your brother noticed as he gathered around you. "What-what?" You asked, your voice hoarse and your eyes stinging with tears.
"We got robbed and he got shot twice in the chest. Please just meet me there." You hung up the phone and let out a few shaky breaths before releasing the tears. You grabbed your keys and left your brother in the house without another word.
You sped down the empty roads, your foot pressed hard on the gas pedal and never eased up. You didn't want to believe it, you didn't want it to be real. Letting out loud cries, you pulled into the parking lot. You ran into the hospital, frantically looking for Amy.
You found the blonde sitting in a chair by herself in the corner. She stood up and ran up to you, embracing you in a tight hug. "What the fuck happened, where is he? How bad is it? Are you okay?" Your mouth spewed out all these questions before Amy could process a single one. Amy was still struck with fear as she took a deep breath.
"He's in surgery now. A guy came in to rob us and JJ hit him with a metal pipe and he told me to leave. And I did. Y/N, I left him. If I didn't leave him maybe he wouldn't have been shot, maybe I would've-" Amy suddenly began rambling, thinking that this was her fault.
You held her shoulders tightly, "Amy, this was not your fault, okay? You did what you had to do, it's your natural reaction to leave when something like this happens. It is not your fault." You reassured her as more tears streamed down her face.
You and Amy held each other as they cried into each other's shoulders. You sniffed as you pulled back, "I gotta call our family." Amy nodded and got back to her seat in the corner.
You left the hospital and stood outside, trying to see if the fresh air would help you catch your breath. Your hands shook as you carefully dialed John B's number, knowing the Pogues were at his house. It rang for a bit before John B picked up, "Pogue residence."
"Hey, could you put me on speaker?" You asked.
"Y/N! Where are you? Are you with JJ? You guys were supposed to be here an hour ago." JB questioned as his friends gathered around him and his phone.
"I'm at the hospital. JJ got shot." Your heart twisted as you spoke those words. The line went silent for a few seconds. "Guys?"
"We're heading over now." And with that, he hung up.
You sat in your seat anxiously next to Amy as you waited for the group of Pogues  to come. Your emotions were everywhere, your eyes were puffy, nose a bright shade of red, lips chapped. You had lost your appetite, energy, and your happiness.
Pope, Kie, and John B ran in and saw the two girls, traumatized. They slowly walked up to them, "how bad is it?" Pope asked, his lip quivering.
"He's in surgery now." Amy said as you stared blankly at the floor. You wanted to speak, but you couldn't find the right words to say. Nobody knew what to say. They all just sat there in silence, but all supporting each other with hugs and hand holding.
_____2 hours later_____
A doctor with a clipboard and papers walked out into the waiting room. "JJ Maybank?" She called out as the group of teens collectively stood up. She raised her eyebrows, "who's the main one?"
Everyone turned their eyes to you. You stepped forward, feeling sick once again. "The surgery was completed and they successfully removed both bullets. He is resting now, however he is unconscious due to the fact that the one of the bullets was close to a major artery and he lost quite a bit of blood. You can see him whenever you'd like, we just ask one at a time." The doctor spoke, you took in her words feeling blessed knowing that it was a success.
You let the others see him first, only to be able to see him last before you had to go home. You wanted to stay the rest of the day with him until the hospital didn't allow visitors anymore. You sat in the uncomfortable chair as you picked at your nails. Your mind had a million thoughts running around and you couldn't process any of them.
After what seemed like a lifetime, it was finally your turn to see him. Kie walked up to you and quickly threw her arms around you, allowing you to cry into each other's necks. Pope and John B joined you guys, all being there to support each other. "Will you be okay if we head back to the chateau?" Kie asked, breaking the group hug. You nodded your head and wiped the tears on the back of your hand. John B gave you a quick peck on the forehead, "you can come over whenever you need, we'll be right there for you."
You nodded your head and gave Pope a hug before you watched your loved ones walk out the door. You turned around and began to make way to his room. Your legs suddenly felt as if they would crumble from underneath you.
You stood in front of the door, hand on the door knob shaking as you heard the sound of the beeping monitor. You took a deep breath before slowly opening the door. You covered your mouth with your hand as more tears flooded your eyes at the sight of JJ.
He had bruises on his face, his lower lip inflamed along with his left eye. He had a tube up his nose and in his mouth to help with his breathing. He was patched up, spots of his blood stood out from the white gauze wrapped around the wounds.
You sat in the chair next to him, your mouth gaping as you took in the sight of him. You slowly reached across the bed and lightly held onto his hand, afraid to hurt him anymore. "Oh God." You sobbed out as you saw how pale his skin was.
You pressed a delicate kiss to his hand, holding it to your lips for a few seconds before taking it away, still holding it. Scooting the chair towards the bed, you rubbed your thumb across his knuckles. Your fingers softly ran through his hair. "I love you so much. God, I never thought this would happen. You know, even after fighting off Kooks and going on a treasure hunt." You spoke as you sniffled, struggling to breathe. "The amount of times you have saved my dumbass. I wish I was there to save yours." You mumbled.
You sat there for hours, afraid to leave his side. At times you would get a call or text from your friends, checking in on you and asking for updates. You rested your head on the side of the bed, eyes fluttering shut. You had gotten an hour worth of rest before you were woken up by the sound of the monitor. Looking up to see that there was a flat line. You choked on air as you swung the door open and screamed out, "I need a doctor in here now!"
You muffled your cries with your hands as doctors and nurses ran into the room. One nurse had to pull you out as you begged them to let you stay. "Hun. You need to go home and get some sleep. We'll call you tomorrow as soon as we allow visitors." The nurse calmly spoke as your knees buckled beneath you.
You fell to the ground as the nurse held you in her arms. "Please save him." You begged as you remained on the cold white floor; the nurse couldn't make promises she couldn't keep.
____________________________
You drove yourself to John B's, your ears ringing as your chest hurt from heaving so hard. Your eyes were sore from crying and your voice was raspy.
You walked through the front door to see Kie and Pope fast asleep on the couch, you could only assume John B was asleep in his bed. You snuck out through the backdoor and made way to the hammocks. Your fingers skimmed the fabric before you sat down, shimmying into the pillows. Turning your head, you pictured JJ next to you with his arm around your shoulder.
Blinking, his image disappeared before your eyes; only causing your heart to ache more. You sat in silence, listening to the crickets as they chirped in the distance. Too focused on the sounds, you nearly fell to the floor as John B appeared to your side. You clasped your hand over your heart as he let out an apologetic laugh.
He took the spot next to you as you both stared at the moonlight reflecting off the waters. "He's gonna be okay, he's a strong motherfucker." He reassured you, rubbing a reassuring hand on your shoulder. You exhaled as the picture of him in that hospital bed reappeared in your head. "I love him, John B I can't lose him." You stated, voice just above a whisper.
"He loves you too. You know, recently he brought up the thought of marrying you." Your head snapped towards your friend with your eyes wide. "What?" He realized what he said when it was too late, "ah shit I didn't mean to actually say that." You shook your head, "no, no it's okay. What did he say about it?"
He turned to face you, tucking his legs criss crossed underneath him. "He said he loves waking up in bed with you by his side, it helps him smile everyday and helps get him out of bed. He's thought about if you two would have kids, you guys would make little bedtime stories of the Pogues adventures together, but you know, kid friendly. How he can't wait for you to have his last name, there was one time I caught him mumbling Y/N Maybank in his sleep." Your cheeks turned a bright pink as John B told you everything, only realizing how much you're in love with this boy.
"You mean the world to him Y/n, before he met you he used to just sleep around, smoke way more, sometimes drank till he passed out. But since he met you he's changed in the best way possible. Hell, he even started wearing his seatbelt when he drove." Wiping your tears on the back of your hand you grinned to yourself. "I'm so unbelievably in love with him." John B flashed you a bright smile, glad two of his best friends found love within each other.
"You know he would want you to get some sleep, right?" You exhaled and stepped out of the hammock. "I hate when you're right." You muttered before offering a hand out to him. He stood up and walked back into his house, tiptoeing around Pope and Kie. You two stood in front of JJ's room, he wrapped his arms around you, pressing a soft kiss to the top of your head. "Goodnight Y/N." He whispered. "Goodnight John B."
You entered his room and shut the door, taking in the smell of his cologne that drifted through the air. You sat at the desk placed in the corner of his room, staring at the photos of you two that scattered his wall. You picked up a wallet sized picture of JJ kissing your cheek on your third date with him. Your whole body felt so drained it felt difficult to even breathe. You traced the shapes of the photo with your finger, "please be alive."
_________________________________
5 days later
Everyone had visited JJ in the hospital except his own father. Hell, even Kie and Pope's family visited him. You were contemplating going to his dad and screaming at him, but Pope had to physically hold you back from doing that. You brought a new bouquet of flowers everyday, giving the old ones to  the nurses and doctors that worked there.
You sat on the left side of the bed, holding his hand with your eyes fluttering shut every now and then due to your lack of sleep. You wanted to scream, you wanted to cry, but you were numb and felt like a drained battery.
Your head snapped up when you suddenly felt JJ's hand squeeze yours. You gasped as you nearly jumped from your chair. "Baby?" You asked softly. Slowly, his eyes fluttered open as he took a deep inhale of air. Your senses awakened as you let out a sigh of relief, a large grin displayed on your face.
"Y/N?" His mumbled, his voice scratchy. You found the control next to his bed and found the button for a doctor to come to the room immediately. You pressed a kiss to his hand as he held onto yours. "Hey baby. Hey, I'm right here, it's okay." You soothed him as you smiled at your boyfriend.
Doctors rushed in, pushing you out of the room saying they needed to check his vitals and see how stable he was. You sat outside the door against the wall, knees pulled up to your chest with your arms resting on your knees. You tilted your head up and closed your eyes, feeling beyond lucky that he was responsive.
After about twenty minutes, the doctor left the room to speak with you. "He's very lucky, 1 more inch and that bullet would've hit a major artery. We want him to stay here just for a couple days to make sure he's healing properly. After that he's free to go home whenever." You nodded your head and thanked him as he walked away.
You entered back into his room, standing next to the bed. "Come here, princess." He mumbled as you bent down towards him, gently holding the non injured side of his face. He kissed you passionately, fingers intertwined in your hair. He carefully scooted over and patted the empty side of the bed for you.
You hesitantly got in next to him, being careful to avoid his wounds. You rested your head on his shoulder as he kissed your forehead. "I've missed you, so fucking much." You muttered as you finally felt at peace being by his side again. "You can't get rid of me that easily Y/L/N," He joked as he pressed his lips to your hand, "You're stuck with me forever." He continued.
You remembered the conversation you had with John B a few nights before. "Sounds perfect to me." He gave you that heart stopping grin of his before planting another kiss on your lip.

Hang In There
Notes: Chapter 10/11 Open Heart. THATS RIGHT OPEN HEART. I’ve never wrote anything for this book and I’m kinda nervous but I wanna take an extra spin on these last two chapter. I changed a few things plus I added alittle backstory to my Mc. I hope this isn’t too terrible...
Pairing: Bryce x MC(Carson Kennedy)
I started out romancing Jackie but my god Bryce in this book...the chemistry is uncanny.
...
You never thought being a doctor would come to this. Saving lives was one thing, but in a hostage situation, an assassanation attempt? This was next level stuff.
But you regret nothing, your life choices and career decisions have led you here and if by miracle you pull out of this, you can save a few more.
You stare blankly ahead trying to calm Travis down who’s about to unleash some unknown substance. You explain that it’s over, whatever happened to his brother is done and killing the Senator won’t change that. Bobby the security guard backs you up and demands the fugitive place the canister on the ground.
But as Bobby steps forward, Travis has no sympathy as he releases the substance wildly hitting Bobby directly in the face sending him to the ground choking.
You notice Rafael charging after Travis and his mystery can dousing the entire room and all in it. Danny and Rafael getting the blunt of it. You manage to get a dose on you and notice the Senator fleeing before he got a lethal dose. Your only thought later would be, ‘I wish it was just gun’ because you had no idea what pain was in store.
Bobby went into cardiac arrest immediately and Danny was soon following him. You and Rafael locked down the room and vent to keep the toxin from spreading.
It didn’t take long to stir up commotion, everyone was rushing to find out what was happening.
After explaining to the group and Ethan, you check back on Bobby who’s pulse has slowed way down, there was no way he was going to make it. The feds showed up and the CDC who locked down the room and took Bobby, Danny and Travis away.
Whatever was in that can, it was very potent. Bobby had passed and Danny was close. The FBI took Travis to a special room where they could interrogate him and observe him.
It was very tight lipped and everyone was worried. Rafael took a turn for the worst and you could feel it inside you to.
You love your friends because although they are extremely worried, they kept working to find a solution. The diagnostics team would have to earn their pay on this one. Countless test and blood samples had to be taken and they were against the clock.
Night fell and you couldn’t sleep. The diagnostics team kept you hooked up to monitors to track progress on you and Rafael. His heart rate slowed dangerously and he listed endless symptoms he had that you would keep in mind as you only got worse.
You thanked him for being a good friend and had a true heart to heart before his heart rate stopped completely and he faded away. Doctors rushed him away and it was then you learned that Danny and Travis both passed and now for the moment, Raf had too. It was just a matter of time now.
You catch Bryce looking on helpless. Once he had heard about the attack you were his priority. He left Kyra in good hands to come be by your side. Everyone was there for you, but all they could do was watch.
“Rafael said his iced drink felt hot, by the way.” Carson spoke laying back in her bed.
“Sensitivity reversal? Metallic taste, itching and loose feeling teeth?” June questioned out loud.
“You have something doctor?” Ethan asked.
“It’s just a hunch. Carson? I’ll need one more blood sample.”
...
Some time passed and the diagnostics team entered into the quarantined room.
“My hunch was right. The chemical expelled from the canister was a Maitotoxin.”
That was an excellent hunch but the only issue was,
“There is no known antidote for Maitotoxin.” Carson spoke realizing this was truely it.
“Danny’s body still had remnants on his skin, I’m afraid Carson, that it’s going to get worse.” Ethan said looking dim.
Her conditions had accelerated, she felt dizzy, her vision was blurry and the cramps, her abdomen was going to explode. She was literally dying from within.
“We will find an antidote Carson.” Ethan spoke up walking away with Tobias who pledged himself to help her.
“Well If this is my last night....so be it.” Carson spoke.
“Wow? Just like that? You’re ready to just give up?” Jackie spoke through the glass.
“I lived a good life. I did what I loved and I have no regrets.” She spoke softly, crawling into bed with her back to the window so the others couldn’t see her cry.
In truth, Carson was afraid. She wasn’t ready to die but it was excruciating knowing that she had to suffer until the reaper came, who by the looks of her. Wasn’t long.
Bryce couldn’t let her suffer, not if he could help it. Once everyone went away he slipped on one of the suits and rushed to Carson’s side.
“Bryce!? What are you doing in here?”
“I just couldn’t stay out there and not do anything.”
“Well I’m not sure there’s much you can do in here...”
Bryce placed his hand on Carson’s cheek and gently stroked it, “Maybe not, but I’m here regardless.”
And for the first time all day, Carson smiled that megawatt smile that only Bryce could get her to do.
“Hold me?” Carson spoke softly.
Bryce climbed onto the tiny bed for one and wrapped a strong arm over Carson.
“I want to kiss you.” Carson revealed embracing the warmth Bryce provided.
“Yeah that’s kinda hard to do Kennedy.”
“I know. But I still want to. I want to feel your skin on mine, I want to run my hands through you hair, I want to be with you.”
“I’m here Carson. I’m not going anywhere and the guys are gonna get that antidote and you’ll be as good as new.”
“Bryce I’m glad you came in here. I didn’t want to be alone especially if this is my last night on Earth. I just wanted to say I love you, and I have for awhile now.”
Bryce couldn’t find the words. It wasn’t fair, it wasn’t right. Carson couldn’t die, not now. “I love you too. You’re a fighter, just hang in there.”
Bryce squeezed harder trying to savor this moment for what it was worth. He could feel how soft Carson was and how cold she was. It wasn’t looking good. Bryce managed to fall asleep but Carson wouldn’t let herself. She had to fight it. Anytime she closed her eyes she saw nothing but evil images, death was near but she wouldn’t succumb to it.
All she could do is savor and reflect on her time at Edenbrook, the friends she’s made, the people she’s met and the lives she saved. It was ironic in the end, no matter how many lives she could save, she couldn’t save her own and that’s what was getting her the most. She blamed it on her family curse. The longline of Kennedy’s who died tragically at an early age.
Yes she was apart of those Kennedy’s. JFK was her grandfather and we know the story about his tragic death. It just started with him and now, death had found Carson. The thought kept her up all night.
The next morning came slowly and no antidote was found yet. Her vision turned to near blindness and her abdomen was tearing her apart. Bryce woke up and cradled Carson too help soothe her as her time approached. The sound of her heart monitor slowed almost to a stop and it was time. Both couldn’t stop crying at the fact, and began to kiss eachother goodbye.
Carson’s efforts slowed to a stop and her body paled and shook violently before falling limp. The heart monitor verified the moment and Carson was appeared to be gone. Her friends and coworkers looked on shedding tears and sympathy. No one could believe THE Carson Kennedy was gone. She was the glue, the rock. She was the it girl. She was the doctor everyone wanted to be and yet, she was just like everyone else, death showed no mercy.
Ethan and June busted down the door seconds later, both looking exhausted but holding a syringe with the antidote. Bryce steadied Carson’s arm while Ethan administered the vile,
“Please work.” Bryce cried desperately.

❖ warning : explicit language, mentions of alcohol
❖ summary : it seems like everyone has their own guardian angel, everyone but you because you’ve given up on Jesus the moment you come down to Lee Minho’s level and shake hands with the Devil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
one.
Your dad is definitely not gonna approve of you hanging by the bar alone after midnight.
It all happened too fast, and you don’t even know where you’re going next. After a call from your manager, which you almost fell asleep as he rambled about boring paperwork, until he dropped the bomb. He said he was sorry for what he’s gonna say next and turned out the label wanted to cut you loose. The entire universe was completely shattered right in front of your eyes. You were utterly speechless when the line went dead so long story short, you packed your bag and ran away.
Like a coward.
You stare blankly at the half-empty glass of Martini in your hand before chuckling lowly. Because life is a little son of a bitch, who’s born with the power to pull on everyone’s strings as if people are a bunch of puppets for whatever gods up there to entertain themselves. Getting signed into a music production company right after your graduation swept your life over with joy. Your parents were… overwhelmed to say the least but they still wanted you to move to Seoul. Two years later, your life once again was flipped upside down because of a single phone call. They didn’t even bother to call you in and meet face-to-face.
“Cheers to this motherfucker.” You almost laugh at your own miserable state but suppress it and down the whole glass in one go. “Another one.” You tell the barista absently and he just sighs before starting to mix your drink.
“Tough times ?” He leans over the counter and slides your drink across the wooden surface.
You gratefully take the glass, words slurred between hiccups. “You have no fucking idea.” Your eyes travel down from his defined features gleaming under the neon light to the name tag hanging off his white dress shirt. It reads ‘Kim Woojin’. You shake your head to lure the weariness away while your right hand reaching inside your pocket to pull out some cash.
But before you can place them on the table, Woojin stops you abruptly. “Keep a hold of them. This last one’s on me.” He sighs defeatedly. Judging by how you look right now, he must have thought that you’re some petty college girl who just got into a fight with her boyfriend and now you have nowhere to stay for the night so essentially, he wants to be certain that you’ll have enough money for a cheapass motel of some sort.
Woojin pats his wet hands onto the black apron wrapped around his hip. “You’ll need them more than I do.” And you feel kinda bad for him, partially because this place doesn’t serve cheap vodka like most bars, and partially because you’re now a somewhat burden to the bartender. “Listen, no matter how much bad shit happens, I’m sure you’ll be just fine. Besides, looks like that punk over there has already had his eyes on you the whole time.” He winks at you playfully before walking over to his coworker at the other side of the counter.
Speaking of the Devil… literally, not even sarcastically, a hollow presence seems to come into sight the moment you place your lips on the rim of the glass. You automatically reach your hand backwards only to find exactly what you’re looking for. “Do not touch me.” You deadpan, normally you would have felt bad by now upon your sudden discourtesy but unfortunately you’re not in the mood to be kind today. Hearing his melodic chuckle, you yank his hand away rather harshly, the coldness of his touch still chills you to the bone.
“Why so sad, bunny ?” He moves over to sit down on the nearby wooden bench, lips curled into a devilish smirk. Out of 7 billion people on this glorious plant, he chooses to pester a mundane mortal like you. Out of 365 days of the year, he chooses to visit you on the worst day of your life. Lee Minho is worse than Lucifer, it’s official.
Not enjoying your dull state, he cocks a brow at you. “You’re jobless because that stupid label doesn’t need you anymore. And now what ? Are you gonna be petty and depressed about it for the rest of your life ? Because if so, you’ll have a really shitty life Y/N. Do you really want your demons to come out and conquer the path ahead like it’s their fucking playground ?”
You can’t help but roll your eyes. “Said a demon himself.”
“Then aren’t humans the closest things that we have to demons alive ?” Minho almost snickers at your suggestive remark, but he wouldn’t admit that it did sting a bit. After all, he is a demon, an epitome of a creature that’s second to Lucifer and his descendants generation, highly worshipped and exceptionally feared. And he’s low-key impressed that you didn’t throw yourself out the window when he stepped out of a wisp of black smoke the day you two first encountered.
You on the other hand didn’t know that he was too utterly soft for you to actually erase your memories. From then on, he would visit you occasionally at the godly hour when you’re close to kicking yourself in the process of composing or when you accidentally fucked up something. ‘Til this day, you still don’t know whether his concern for you is pure sincerity or he just finds your first world problems very amusing. You can’t tell either way.
Taking another sip of your drink, you groan slightly at the slight burn in your throat from the strong alcohol. “I mean ... fair point.” Your lips pursed unknowingly. “I don’t know Minho… I think I must have done something fucking messed up to be kicked out of the game like that. I wasn’t even thinking straight, you know, just packed my stuff and drove downtown. Ugh now I feel like shit.”
The demon in front of you glares at the glass of Martini coldly. He’s not letting you finish that shit after who knows how much alcohol that Woojin has permitted you to drink. “Do you think that overcoming cowardice is easy ? If it was that easy, everyone would go outside to get some fresh air, smell some flowers, meet new people; not fucking hide behind their screens and whatnot while talking trash about others like a bunch of scaredy-cats.” Minho spats, swiftly taking your drink away before you gulp it again.
Funny enough, you’re sitting at a bar with a demon, who’s obviously so done with your shit, but also the one that you have least expectations for listening and giving you advice. Just like how that one song goes.
Well, I shook hands with the devil
Down on the south side
And he bought us both a drink
With a pad and a pencil sat by his side
I said, "Tell me what you think".
Except that Minho didn’t buy you a drink, he actually stole yours.
“I may not know much about your world, but I’m confident that you’re very talented and passionate about what you’re doing. I saw how much effort you put into your work, staying up after midnight, heck, you barely got any sleep when you’re still working for that shitty company. I saw how much you care, Y/N and I don’t give two fucks about how much you’re doubting yourself because you’re so much more than that. I know you got this, you’re as stubborn as a human being can be, you’re not gonna let a tiny cut or bruised knee hold you back, are you ?”
You shake your head slightly, starting to acknowledge his words. You don’t get why you never noticed this but for a demon, Minho gives really good advice. In spite of his cocky personality because he thinks that he has every right to sass every human being out whenever wherever he wants to, his company always makes you feel fuzzy inside. It’s almost heartwarming but that makes no sense because demons are nowhere near ‘sweet and caring’.
A strange look flashes in his eyes when his eyes meet yours but before you can properly react, it vanishes. “You’re not drinking ever again… at least not for the time being.” He tells you off with his eyes before chugging the whole glass. Woah, good shit, he admits internally. And he’s mildly surprised that you’re taking this better than he’d thought. Other young producers would have been bawling their eyes out by now, not talking to a creature from the underworld.
“Alcohol helps me sleep.” You pout slightly, feeling the need to actually pay Woojin back when you get paid again. Oh wait… but you’re practically unemployed. “Insomnia is painstakingly arbitrary, like a needle that’s constantly pricking my spine whenever I’m trying to get comfy in bed. Guess I’m not sleeping tonight, thanks a lot.” You huff and lean over on the wooden counter, cheek pressed against your left upper arm.
Although Minho thinks that you look ridiculously cute right now with tinted pink cheeks and messy hair, he’s still not gonna buy you another drink. “They do say that insomnia is just another word for chit chatting with the demons during bedtime. And you’ve already wolfed down three fucking Vodka Martinis by the time I teleported here, aren’t you concerned about the stupid hangover tomorrow morning ? I swear to Lucifer— are you even listening to me right now ?”
Minho asks in disbelief when you stay unresponsive. The demon peels his eyes away from the empty glass and turns his head only to find you already fallen asleep, like a bear in hibernation. Your eyes are closed shut, chest heaving up and down rhythmically as you drift away from the cruel reality and into dreamland. Truth be told, you tend to fall asleep whenever he’s lecturing you a lot, and that gives him an excuse to stay for a little more than he should.
Tumblr media
two.
Hangover hits you with a bang, almost knocks you out cold. But it’s not going to let you pass out, at least not before you start regretting the amount of alcohol that you chugged last night. Your eyes are still screwed shut, refusing to flutter open as your head throbs uncontrollably. Usually you would have been awake by now since you’re dumb enough to have white curtains instead of colored ones which helps the sunlight goes right through your apartment.
But something seems off today because there’s nothing that’s bothering your eyes. And you would definitely sleep in if it wasn’t for the strange feeling beneath your skin. Wait a second… A worrisome feeling runs down your spine, causing your eyes to open. You look down and check your clothes properly, everything stays the same except for… hold on, since when did you have a silky black sheet ?
“You woke up, finally. Be grateful that you’re on time for breakfast.” Someone’s voice booms in the distance when your eyes adjust themselves on the foreign surroundings. The studio apartment in front of you has your jaw dropped to the floor. Minimal yet modern pieces of furniture, a fully equipped kitchenette and an enormous window that gives you a breathtaking view of the whole city. This isn’t your apartment, is it ?
You groan loudly before pushing yourself off the bed and shiver slightly when your feet come in contact with the cold floor. “Tylenol’s on the table, you’re welcome.” Minho says nonchalantly as he has his back against you. You drag yourself to the dining table and pop the pills into your mouth before downing the glass of water beside them.
Yeah, no, you’re not drinking ever again.
“What are you doing ?” You ask him in a raspy tone and sniff your nose continuously at the aroma that’s filling the entirety of the apartment. Minho stays silent, deciding to fully concentrate on his current task. When you suddenly approach him from behind and place your head lazily on his shoulder, he almost drops the pot of freshly made soup. His chest swells a bit whenever you get close to his body, whether it is because it’s all in his head or just you having that kind of effect on him, he dares not to know.
“Tsk, you’re in my way, shoo.” He sneers, motioning for you to move so that he can transfer the pot over to the table in peace. Minho quickly scoops the thick liquid into a smaller bowl and gives you a look. You just stare at the hearty soup in complete awe, mouth slightly watered. No one has ever cooked for you before, much less a pot full of hangover soup. And you would be lying if you said that you’re not touched right now because you feel like it’s been forever since you’ve had homemade food.
Lee Minho never changes, still ever so caring.
He sits down at the table and pushes the bowl towards you. “Eat this and write me a 1000 words essay for instant feedback later.” Without a word, you automatically take a spoonful into your mouth, almost choking because of how hot it is. “Dude, it’s not 1945 anymore. If this goes on, you’re not gonna die from anything other than choking yourself.” He purses his lips at your eagerness, dabbing the excess soup away with a napkin on the corner of your lips.
After coughing furiously, you figure that your voice can finally function normally. “I didn’t know that you can cook, god this soup is everything.” In the next ten minutes, you finish inhaling the whole bowl as if you’ve walked through the desert, searching for an oasis for a week straight.
You’ve never let anyone cook for you other than your parents because one, none of your friends can cook, Changbin almost burnt your apartment down while Jisung came up with the idea to crack eggs with a knife; and two, you still remember a creepy story you once heard on a podcast vividly. Basically, there’s this girl who allowed her date to make her a meal on their very first encounter. She was hospitalized a week later, suspecting food poisoning but the test results came out as cannibalism. Yikes.
“Demons eat souls, not human flesh you paranoid bitch.” Minho reads your thoughts in a matter of seconds before taking his wooden spoon and smack you on the head. He looks unimpressed right now, he really does because he’s so over your delusional ass from binge-watching way too many investigation related shows at three a.m. “They’re not even that tasty, I’d rather have a boring sandwich.”
You scoff at him, rubbing the spot where he hit previously. “You can’t have mine then, it’s too dark for you.”
“A ‘thank you’ would be nice.” He almost grit, lips pressed into a thin line.
You stand up from the wooden stool and carry the dishes over to the newly renovated silver sink. “This is your place ?” You ask while turning on the faucet to spray water all over the dirty bowl. “It’s really nice, not gonna lie. Just not as nice as mine.”
When you’re having your back against him, Minho looks somewhat guilty. What would Hyunjin say if he found out that his roommate brought a mundane mortal home and even made her a bowl of hangover soup ? “For the time being, it is.” Whatever, Hyunjin’s staying in Italy for a good two weeks anyway. With a little bit more effort of ridding off your human scent and reorganize some stuff, Minho can pretty much pass without being suspected. “And what do you expect ? That I’m gonna leave you at the bar where sketchy people are getting wasted ? FYI, a demon doesn’t necessarily have to own a place where it’s just full of miserable souls swimming around. I take my beauty sleep very seriously, actually, all of us do. Even Satan.”
You carefully line the dishes up on the white rack next to the sink and sighs. “Beauty sleep ? I don’t know her.” When you turn around to face Minho, his lips are slightly curled upwards. “What, Minho ?” You ask, slightly annoyed.
He props his head onto his palms and cocks his head to the side. “What will you do now ? Going home is a no-no, obviously, and I believe that your coworkers/best friends are flipping the whole city upside down looking for you so your apartment isn’t really an option anymore. What’s next Y/N ?”
You think for a bit and hum. “Technically I’m running away ...so…why not make the best out of it ?” Then, something clicks and your eyes lit up in mischief. “I have an idea. It’s genius, a fucking genius idea.”
Minho immediately shakes his head furiously, looking like he’s encountering a panic attack. “Hate it.”
“You love it, don’t even lie to yourself.”
“It’s humiliating.”
You reach your hands inside your pocket to look for your keys. “Too late.” That’s when Minho knows that he doesn’t have a say in this.
Tumblr media
three.
“You know what’s more fun than this ?” Minho supports himself on his knees as his breaths come in short, he feels like he’s gonna throw up. Being on a rollercoaster is most definitely scarier than attending a meeting with the Underworld Authority. He still doesn’t get why humans enjoy torturing themselves as a form of pure entertainment when they can do something like educate themselves by reading more books. “Hearing Lucifer play the fiddle, the Devil plays it damn good and a fun demon to hang around. He’s a real entertainer, trust me. Just hire a lawyer beforehand if you’re signing any contract with him.”
Minho’s making it sound like you’re planning on having ‘a thing’ with Lucifer meanwhile he practically follows you everywhere, watches your every move and you think that’s close enough for an example of the infamous slavery contract.
You run a hand through your hair and exhale in satisfaction. Since middle school, you haven’t really got a chance to come to amusement parks before. You’re far too caught up with the new tempo to life these days. “Come on, it’s not that bad. It ain’t my fault when you can’t teleport us both to somewhere further.” You almost laugh at his current state; disheveled hair, beads of sweat rolling down on his forehead, and he looks as pale as a ghost like he just saw one. Not like he’s terrified of ghosts or anything, actually, he might be scared of heights.
“You can’t teleport with me for fuck’s sake, even when I want to, you’ll end up disintegrating into dusts forever because your mortal body doesn’t have enough energy to recollect itself piece by piece.” Minho grits and shakes his head slightly to adjust the messy mop of hair on his head. He looks really cute, you think. Like a cat that’s trying to clean itself but can’t quite reach the itchy spot.
Upon your stubbornness because he knows too well that you just wanna see him being drowned in misery, Minho can’t help but roll his eyes. “And can you get any dumber ? You have a fucking Range Rover and a valid license. Technically, there’s no law against driving with a demon sitting in your vehicle. Ugh, I really should have left you at the bar last night.”
Right when you’re about to snap back at him with a witty comment, your phone buzzes loudly. And your eyes are about to jump out of their sockets the moment you open up the device. There are more than thirty missed calls, from your family and friends along with countless texts filled with nothing but concern. Changbin and Jisung both work under the same label as you so you assume that your family already knew everything. Now you feel guilty for running away so spontaneously because after all, you do have people who are always willing to be there for you.
[ 3:25pm ]
jisung | dude, I’m outside, open up
jisung | we know everything already
changbin | Y/N I’m bringing food over, you’re gonna binge-watch Netflix with us whether you want to or not
[ 3:27pm ]
jisung | uhm, hello ? Y/N ?
changbin | we’re breaking in if you’re not coming out, FYI
[ 3:35pm ]
jisung | you know I have the keys right, we’re gonna go in
changbin | this isn’t fucking funny
jisung | stop being such a stubborn piece of shit
[ 3:36pm ]
jisung | Y/N where the fuck are you ?!
changbin | …. look, just go home, your family are worried sick
[ 3:45pm ]
jisung | at least call me back ?
changbin | whatever you’re planning on doing, don’t do it
[ 9:23pm ]
chan | call me, I’m not going anywhere
Sensing your racing thoughts and seeing your tense posture, Minho swiftly takes your phone away from your hand and drops it into his pocket. The last thing he wants to see is you curled up into a ball and cry alone in the bathroom. “You’re so rude ? What kind of human are you, Y/N ? This is how you’re treating your date ?” He huffs, arms crossed in front of his chest like a little kid. But wait, a date ?
“This is not a date, Lee Minho, stop flirting with me.” You knit your brows together in confusion when his eyes twinkle. What’s with his demon nature being on steroids right now ? “Give me my phone.” You order.
“It’s a date when I say that it’s a date.” Minho reaches his hand outwards and links his fingers with yours. He quickly narrows the proximity between the two of you, backing you up against a wall. Utterly speechless, you find yourself dumbfoundedly melting into his touch. How can a demon possess such radiant warmth and tenderness ? Is it all just a facade or does he seem more human when he’s around you, you can’t tell either way. But what you do know is that when you relax a bit and let him hold your hand properly, it fits like a glove.
Minho cocks his head and cracks a smile. For the longest time, you’ve never noticed anyone looking at you with so much sincerity and affection. Maybe it’s all in your head after all. “What now ? You wanna watch a movie and put our hands into the popcorn at the same time to see what’ll happen or nah ?” You question, but it feels more like a question towards yourself.
Minho chuckles lightheartedly. “You’re so damn predictable Y/N.”
The rest of the night is absolutely magical. You feel like you’re acting in one of those One Direction’s music videos that’s not the typical ‘too good to be true’ kind. It really does remind you a lot of ‘Night Changes’ when Minho almost slips while holding onto you like a cat that just came in contact with water. Meaning, if it weren’t for your mediocre ice-skating skills way back from middle school, everything would have been exactly like the music video itself, in which you don’t mind. Because it’s Lee Minho, because his warm presence is something you never knew you needed in your life, because you always have this sense of comfort and happiness even when he starts cursing so loudly that your ears bleed. Demon or not, him being him is truly a blessing already.
Minho says. “I told you it’s humiliating.” He links your hand into his before stuffing it inside his pocket and drags you away from the front entrance. His hand’s got a lot warmer from staying inside his coat for so long and that makes him more human than ever. In which, makes you feel fuzzy.
“You freaking loved it, you can’t tell me otherwise.” You shake your head in denial.
“Whatever.” He rolls his eyes for the tenth time. “Let’s go home.”
Tumblr media
four.
The next day, Minho somehow convinces you to drive back to your apartment for packing. Not for running away this time, he’s had enough of that shit. But for a trip back to your hometown instead ( you really should have gone deeper into his ‘let’s go home’ from last night ). The flight will take approximately ten hours or more so he only gives you two hours to pack before leaving. You basically spend half an hour picking out clothes from the messy walk-in closet and another ninety minutes to fit all of them into your suitcase while having a mental breakdown inside your head.
Because gosh, what would they think ?
You’ve scared them all shitless for the last two days and now you’re just gonna show up at the front door and go “Hey, I’m done being miserable now.” ? Sounds like a pretty solid plan but you doubt that your mom’s not planning to beat you up with her favorite broom that’s covered in nothing but dust and spiderwebs. Not to mention, your brother is definitely gonna grill your ass for causing such a commotion in your family. You can already imagine him waiting for you at the foyer with crossed arms, getting ready to lecture the heck out of you.
“Did you lose your favorite pair of shoes or something ?” Minho suddenly fades into your room, making you jump slightly. You’ve got used to his particular ways of intruding your personal space but the demon never seems to fail at surprising you.
You glare at him. “Look who’s being rude now.”
Minho purses his lips. “I didn’t know humans were notorious for being terribly indecisive when it comes to their belongings.” He almost sneers, leaning back against your bedroom wall.
“That’s not the problem.” Yeah, that’s not the problem because not every human takes pain in packing their stuff, it’s just a ‘you’ problem. “I’m coming home after scaring the shit out of my loved ones. I wouldn’t blame them if they hated me, it’s just that I don’t know what to say. What do I say in situations like this ? School didn’t teach me that.” A sigh escapes your lips as you kick your suitcase towards the door. And you’re kinda glad that Changbin and Jisung left your apartment last night, specifically when you called them at one a.m. because you were driving back with a demon right next to the shotgun window.
Minho politely grabs the doorknob and pushes the door open for you. Now that was a first. You almost smile at his out-of-nowhere kind gesture. Normally, he would have teleported to the front porch and complained about how you’re always taking so long. “Hurry up dumbass, we don’t have all day.” He raises his brow at your thoughts.
“Tsk, you’re not the one who’s driving.”
Minho can’t drive, sadly. Partially because he doesn’t see the point in moving around in a fucking box with four wheels when he’s fully capable of teleporting from one place to another within a snap of his fingers. And partially because he can’t afford erasing some cops’ memories because they might have some kind of innovative technology that’ll automatically record when things go down. Another reason is that he might or might not chug a whole bottle of whiskey while driving just because he feels like it.
“It’s cold, roll down the windows.” Minho reminds you when he enters your car because gosh, you always love to keep the temperature at a minimum of 71 degrees even when it’s freezing outside. His cold-hearted demon ass is quaking because another cold case remains another mystery for the entirety of humanity. “You’d be a badass demon, just saying. I’m surprised that you’re still alive at this point.” He shakes his head in disapproval and leans forward to turn off the AC. Not because he’s cold but he’s afraid that you’ll actually freeze to death before you two can even make it to the airport.
You kick the brake when the first red light occurs. “Just admit it, you’re cold. If anything, you can always hold my hand.”
“Okay,” He blinks numerous time at your reply. When did you become such a brat ? You’ve been acting like him these past few days and now he knows how it feels like. Woah, he does act like an old, bitchy cat. “Who taught you that ?”
You say, sparing him a slight smirk. “You know, only the best of the best.”
“Just don’t act like that in front of your parents, will you ?” Minho scrunches his nose at your particular way of having a civil conversation. “You did tell your parents right ?”
You nod. “Yeah, I told them that I was gonna go home sooner or later. I even texted Chan— OH MY GOD,” You let out the loudest gasp whilst trying to make sharp turn at an intersection.
“What the fuck is wrong with you ?” He gasps in disbelief at your sudden outburst, holding onto the side of your car for dear life.
“I can’t just bring a demon home !” You cry out. “You’d be considered safe if it weren’t for my brother. He just happens to be home for break. God, do you know how protective he is when it comes to bringing a guy home ?!” One time, you asked your desk mate from highschool to do a project at your house and Chan didn’t even hesitate to put him on trial. Luckily, they talked things out pretty smoothly and became friends later. Now Felix’s probably the only guy who wouldn’t be thrown off a cliff for breathing in the same room as you.
Minho stares at you weirdly for a full twenty seconds, and that makes you think he’s mentally judging you, which he totally is. “Wouldn’t me being your boyfriend the best option then ?”
“Are you dumb, or are you dumb ?” You haven’t dated anyone since elementary school and the relationship didn’t even last a week. And now out of nowhere you’re just gonna bring a ‘boyfriend’ home after running away ? That’s practically equivalent to adding fuel to the fire and you doubt that Minho’s comprehend the situation correctly. That’s it, you’re officially letting all hell break loose from here. “Yeah, go ahead and be my boyfriend if you wanna sleep with the fishes.”
He throws a look at you. “Is that a challenge ?”
“Better not dress like that in front of my family then.” You glance at his bold choice of a silky wine colored dress shirt along with leather pants and combat boots. Can’t have him walking around looking like a celebrity now, can you ? Although he does look good in them… so annoying.
“Trust me, I know what I’m doing.”
However, Minho’s outfit is most definitely the least of your worries.

five.
“Don’t tell me that you thought this through because-“
Minho says in a hushed tone. “I did think this through, baby. Loosen up a bit.” A devilish smirk blooms on his lips as he tucks some loose strands of hair behind your ear. He really needs to stop doing that because you’re already a blushing mess. He switched out his usual clothes and went for a comfortable hoodie with some jeans and sneakers. You hate him even more now because the demon easily pulled off the perfect boyfriend look.
Grimacing, you slap his hand away. “I’m not your fucking baby. And keep your hands to yourself, will you ?” And with that, you turn on your heels and make a beeline towards the kitchen where everyone’s busy setting up the table, leaving him in the living room alone.
Minho unconsciously plops himself onto the white faux leather couch and looks around in awe. Your house sort of symbolizes you because it’s minimal in the best way with a white color scheme and the occasional colorful tiny details on some of the decorative pieces. He starts pondering about how you never told him anything about your family in Australia. And although you grew up in a pretty well-off household, you didn’t flaunt your wealth. That makes you much more admirable in his eyes because not everyone can keep their mouth shut for more than two seconds when it comes to money.
Truth is, when your parents saw Minho for the very first time, they totally freaked out and drove to the nearest supermarket to shop for more ingredients. Now the house is filled with the aroma of a variety of grilled meat, vegetables, seafood and rice. He finally understands why you’re always homesick because gosh, who wouldn’t miss this kind of homemade food ? Minho props his head onto his hand as he watches your hard-working back figure from the living room, arranging the dishes onto the dining table with a smile on your face. And that stirs something inside him, he just doesn’t want to know it yet.
And Berry - your very much spoiled dog - is absolutely terrified by his dark presence. She keeps barking whenever he tries to pick her up, then ends up whimpering in the corner later. “Berry, don’t be rude ! He’s no stranger to us now.” Your mom nags while looking at Minho with an apologetic look. “Minho, honey, come join us. There’s no need to be so formal.” She offers him a seat at your family’s table warmly and he can already see where you got your smile from.
When he beams at her words and quickly takes the seat right beside you, you secretly roll your eyes at him. “I didn’t know dogs were supposed to be scared of demons. This is so obvious.” As you continue to complain about how he’s not acting naturally and all in a small tone, your hand automatically reaches for the chopsticks and picks out some lamb loin chops onto his plate. Minho simply brushes your words off, muttering a quick ‘thanks babe’ before pressing a kiss on your cheek.
Your eyes widen in surprise at his action, immediately darting towards your family members else whom have already gathered around. But before you can react properly, your dad cuts you off. “How sweet of you two.” He shows that signature ‘dad smile’ which never fails to melt your heart. “Don’t they remind you of us when we were young, dear ?” He tells your mom.
“Certainly, I still remember how—“
“Uhm, so, how did you two meet ?” Your brother - Chan - who’s sitting across the table tries his very best not to gag and changes the topic before things get out of hand. Your dad used to tell you about his first encounter with your mom, their first date and etc.. as an alternative version for the regular bedtime stories session. Chan has known too much already.
“We met at a dinner through a mutual friend during her business trip to Paris. I knew she didn’t come from Europe so if I didn’t ask for her number then, we would never meet again.” Minho has already made up a story during the dreadfully long flight, now all he has to do is read outloud. Easy mode. “We kept in touch and eventually, I moved back to Korea to meet her and stayed with her since then.”
Chan hums as a response, he doesn’t hate Minho yet, you can tell. “Why didn’t you tell me about him, Y/N ? Dad was so close to talking to Felix’s parents about setting you two up.”
You gulp slightly to hide your nervousness. Under the table, Minho squeezes your hand in reassurance, and that gives you enough courage to explain slowly. “I didn’t want to freak you out with our long distance relationship. You might go nuts knowing that I’m dating a guy who I’ve only met once and he’s nearly six thousand miles away.” And setting you up with Felix ? You would never let that happen. Not in a million years. It makes you shiver just thinking about holding your highschool deskmate’s hand while walking down the aisle. “And dad, Lee Felix ? Really ? I would rather be single.”
Your dad laughs. “Come on, he’s a pretty decent boy. Too bad he’s traveling overseas right now or I might invite him over.”
“So, Minho,” Chan sips on his drink. “What do you do for a living ?” When you two arrived at the front door, he finds such little amount that Minho’s luggage holds a bit skeptical, as if your relationship and the idea of coming home happens overnight. And how he wears clothes pretty casual too for a first time meeting the parents but Chan knows better than to judge a book by its cover. However, he wants to make sure that your ‘boyfriend’ doesn’t do drugs of any kind.
Minho doesn’t even hesitate. “I’m a dancer and owns a dance studio with my friend after when I flew back to Korea. I was in Paris for an internship over the summer.” You just sit there, blinking at him in disbelief like a total dumbass. Now you’re starting to wonder how it feels like to dance with the Devil. And if it weren’t for him kicking your leg under the table, your face would have given it away.
“Hmm, interesting.” Chan nods in acknowledgement. Well, at least he’s not unemployed… could have been worse.
Your mom advises thoughtfully as she walks over to the kitchen aisle and refills the plate of beef. “Oh, and be careful with the sauce for the lamb, it’s quite hot. If you’re not good with spicy food, just leave it out.”
“No, it’s fine. Actually, I can handle spicy stuff pretty well.. unlike someone over here.” Minho glances over at you. You immediately gut him with your elbow, earning a low grunt followed by a lighthearted chuckle of your family members.
“Minho can handle spicy things only because he’s getting old. His taste buds are losing their senses.” Your comment is partially true because he once told you that he’s been around for quite awhile. Definitely a lot older than the new batch of demons. He stopped counting at some point but ensured you that it’s somewhere from fifteen thousand and twenty thousand.
Minho looks at your sternly as the corners of his lips curled up. You’re already low-key mortified of what he’s going to say. “If you’re gonna act like a brat for the rest of the night, I’ll have to make sure that your legs will lose their sense by tomorrow morning.” Yep, there it is. You’re so used to his flirtatious remarks to the point that they don’t faze you anymore but having your family witness this is another level of torture. Minho’s definitely the type of guy ( if he were an actual human being ) who can’t be bothered about publicity and would straight up kiss you in the middle of the street.
And it doesn’t help either when Chan just doesn’t laugh loudly at your ‘boyfriend’s’ less than appropriate joke, he’s also on his side. Along with your parents. “I like you, not everyone can make her shut up like that.” Your brother nods in approval, clapping happily like a seal. Your parents even supply unhelpfully. “Try to keep it down and use protection, okay kids ?” Is this what betrayal feels like ?
You feel so adopted at that moment.
Tumblr media
six.
“What the hell are you doing here ?” You try to groan as quietly as possible when you find Minho creeping up to you in the living room. “What part of ‘you can take my bed and I’ll sleep on the couch, wake up before everyone else then come back to my room later on’ couldn’t you understand ?” A compromise was almost made, and he fucking blew it.
He chuckles and looks at you dreamily. For a second there, you really thought that he was sleep-walking. His brown hair is in a bird nest, accommodated by a pair of plaid pants and white t-shirt. This prick never fails to make your heart skip a beat. You’re glad that at least he doesn’t sleep shirtless like your brother. It gives you major nightmares since middle school just by waking him up every morning.
“I can’t sleep on a foreign bed..” Minho pouts. He really can’t, especially when you’re not around. And he’s not risking the chance of one of your folks or Chan accidentally. barging into the room when he’s doing some voodoo shit either.
You huff tiredly and walk over to him, grabbing the pillow from his arms before throwing it on the couch along with your blanket. Well, lucky him, your parents just happen to love ginormous couches and you’re far too lazy to drag him back to your bedroom. “Come here.” You order after plopping yourself onto the soft surface, letting out a prolonged yawn. Minho takes a good ten seconds to look at you again. He can’t help but keep staring like a creep when you’re in an oversized t-shirt with shorts underneath, exposing your bare thighs. You’re too cute for your own good.
You say when he remains silent. “Hurry up before I change my mind.”
He obediently nods, quickly settling down under the blanket. You two shuffle around for a bit until no one’s uncomfortable with less than a few inches away from each other. And when you decide to flip yourself over to face the wall, Minho gently pulls your back flush against his chest. Your eyes fly open at the sudden contact. “What-the-fuck-do-you-think-you’re-doing ?” You turn around and stare at him square in the eye.
Even in the dark, his eyes are gleaming with a demonic glint of silver. He beams innocently at your threatening tone. “Get comfortable ?”
“I mean…” You hesitate for a few seconds. Because you’d hate to admit but it does feel kinda nice having his warmth radiating off from underneath his thin shirt. It makes you feel fuzzy inside, more secure, more like you’re finally home. “If you don’t mind then…” You gather up every last bit of courage and energy to scoot yourself towards him, your arms snaking around on either side and hug his torso closer, your face buried in his chest.
And it takes every single strand of willpower for Minho to not jump and teleport to the nowhere. His breath starts to quicken when your body is practically attached to his. He didn’t expect this at all. It might be because you’re exhausted from the flight so you’re just far too sleepy to be conscious of your own actions. But anyhow, he’s not against the idea of having you in his arms like this. It makes him more relaxed knowing that you’re safe in his sound right here.
So Minho drapes one of his arms around your waist to hold you in place and the other underneath his head, straddling his legs with yours to keep them warm since you’re only wearing shorts. “Thanks for dinner, by the way.” He murmurs into your hair, taking in the scent of your familiar shampoo.
“If anything, you should be thanking my parents. They looked like they just saw Jesus when you first arrived.” You say and snuggle closer to him.
He chuckles, sending vibrations to the tip of your nose. “Admit it, your family’s in love with me. Even your brother isn’t half as bad as you made it sound. I think he would actually have nothing against our wedding.”
You make a face and lift your head upwards to look at him. “Dude, it’s just really good acting. Such a shame how the other Lee Minho gets the title of an actor when you’re over here stuck with being a demon.” If you’re being completely honest, you’re kinda scared right now. Because one, all of this is just a big play and when you fly back to Korea, it may seem like nothing has ever happened. And two, if this goes way too far, your family might disown you for ‘breaking up’ with Minho when he wasn’t even your boyfriend in the first place.
“Actually, I’d be glad to take the title of being your boyfriend instead.” And the thumping force inside your chest picks up the pace as you can feel your cheeks heating up. His simple acknowledgement makes you flustered, absolutely moonstruck. No one has ever said that to you before, well, partially because you’re super single but you can’t help but let those words affect you tremendously. “Where do you want to go for our honey—“
“We’re not getting married.” You hiss at him like a snake.
Minho draws a cat-like grin on his lips, mischief glistening in his eyes. “Nuh uh too late. I’ll consider you as my own from now on, Mrs. Lee.”
You reply flatly. “You talk a lot for a demon who treasures their beauty sleep. You’re not vampires and you don’t watch people in their sleep, do you ?” The only person Minho watches in their sleep is you, but he’s not saying that to your face. And that was one time, one-time.
Upon his silence, you raise a brow. “Wait, you do ?”
“Who I watch in their sleep is none of your business, Y/N.” He replies with flaming cheeks.
You giggle. “I knew it, you’re related to Edward Cullen.”
“No, not that bitch Edward !” Minho makes a disgusted face but can’t contain his laughter for long. God, what are you doing to him ?
Tumblr media
seven.
You wake up with a cold sensation wrapping around your feet. With body shivering slightly, you instinctively nuzzle your head into the nearest heat source, retreating your legs deeper into the fuzzy blanket. Groaning, you shake your head slightly to shake the weariness away. This is why you hate long flights with a passion because you’re never not gonna be jet lagged for the rest of your life.
“Why do you always wake up so fucking early ?” Your eyes shoot open at the hoarse voice only to find Minho squinting his eyes at you sleepily with his bedhead and wrinkled shirt. He looks so human right now you can care less about the fact that you’ve just spent an entire night on your parents’ favorite couch with a creature from Hell. Definitely boyfriend material.
“My feet get cold easily in the morning, and that wakes me up.” You pout and hold his torso closer. Minho tries his best not to flinch when your arm brushes over his as the strangest warm feeling bubbles up inside his stomach. And you’re glad that he doesn’t snore and isn’t a messy sleeper. Just sleeps like the death, which makes sense. Unlike your best friend, Seo Changbin who sleeps like a fucking starfish with his four limbs wide open. Give him a king sized bed and he can still manage to have his blanket on the floor by the time the sun rises.
Minho runs a hand through the messy bird nest on his head which takes the breath right out of your lungs because it looks like those too good to be true shampoo commercials with people who have shiny, luminous hair. But those models spend hours on a wooden stool for their stylists to make it look like they didn’t even try but they’re not even close to Minho’s league because he needs none of that in order to look attractive.
Finally, he sighs. “Go back to sleep then.” He pulls the blanket down slightly to cover your feet completely and hugs your waist closer so that your upper body won’t be bothered by the morning breeze. “I’ll make breakfast later, what do your folks usually prefer ?”
You look up at him in awe. No one has ever offered such a sweet thing to do when they come over to your house. Not even your relatives ‘cause they’re far too busy bombarding you and Chan with questions about your personal lives rather than helping your parents out with washing the dishes after a meal is done. Minho might look cold and all but it’s all really just the typical demon facade that he’s trying to maintain. He’s actually really caring and thoughtful, you’ve found more sense of morality whenever you look into his eyes deeply than when you look at other people.
“Lee Minho is making breakfast for my family ? What’s this ? Is World War III coming ? Is the world hanging on the verge of ending ?”
He shakes his head at you in disapproval. “I just wanted to do something nice in return to last night’s dinner. Your parents really didn’t have to go all the way to the supermarket just because of me.” And he secretly enjoys seeing you munching happily on the food that he makes. How your cheeks are bunched up when you accidentally take too much of a bite, how your eyes light up in joy when you melt into the taste. He loves you for being you, for going all out without trying to act like a lady, eating quietly and shit.
You think for a bit. “They all have a big appetite, plus they’re not picky so anything will do. Just try to work with things in the fridge that you find promising ?”
“Oh okay.” Minho shrugs before leaning forward to press a kiss on your forehead. “Go back to sleep please, I beg. Jetlag is killing me, or else I’m gonna have to kiss you again and again until you get tired of me and doze off.”
With coral cheeks, you muster the calmest voice possible. “Is that a challenge ? Because if so, kiss me before I kick you off the couch.”
He smirks at you. “If you’re willing to.” As he leans in closer, you can feel your confidence level decreasing dramatically, your heart feels like it’s running on a treadmill endless. You’re no longer brave enough to keep eye contact so your eyes are screwed shut at some point, waiting for his lips to collide with yours.
Suddenly his phone buzzes obnoxiously on the coffee table, making you two pull away in a hassle. “Sorry, I gotta take this.” Minho says sheepishly as he sits straight up and grabs his phone. The apologetic smile on his face drops when he sees the caller’s ID. He swipes right to answer, placing the cool device close to his ear. “Yeah, Hyunjin ?”
“Hyung, you’re going too far. Come back.”
Tumblr media
eight.
It’s been a few weeks later, and your family can’t stop gushing over how lucky you are to find a boyfriend like Minho.
You start getting daily voice messages from your parents, asking if you’re taking good care of yourself, if Minho’s treating you well, if anything’s been hard lately. Oh boy you sure regret running away before because your parents keep checking up on you every two hours. If not for Minho, they would have made you move back to Australia for who knows how long.
With that being said, Minho is obligated to move in with you. But you’re not complaining at all because cuddling with him is naturally carved into you like second nature. Even Jisung and Changbin didn’t bother to question why you start to have two mugs by the sink, two pairs of slippers by the shoe rack and a foreign smell of cologne all over your couch. They’ve probably figured it out that you got yourself ‘a man’ since the night that you came back to the apartment in such a rush.
And from then, you wonder why you’ve never considered having a roommate before. There are always really shitty excuses inside your head like : what if your roommate has some kind of questionable habits, what if they’re secretly a part of some mafia organization ? But really, it’s because he’s Lee Minho, because you’re too utterly soft for him. Nonetheless, you did learn a few things from spending more time with him rather than locking yourself up with work.
The feeling of having someone waiting for you to come home is beyond heartwarming. And you’ve also learnt to use your time and effort on someone else rather than just yourself. It actually feels really nice because his presence brings more than just a sense of comfort and happiness to you. There’s something about him that’s irreplaceable. As if he’s your soulmate, that one person who adores you to the moon and back, who’s willing to bring out the best in you and deal with you when you’re at your lowest.
But the whole concept of soulmate is still debatable because life isn’t just peaches and cream, it’s roses and thorns.
“Something’s bothering you, tell me.” You make the sharpest of a turn to the left to snap Minho back to reality. You don’t like when people keep ignoring your questions.
“Nothing’s bothering me.” He answers flatly. Obviously, he’s lying because he’s only spoken to you seven words maximum since you started the car. “Follow-the-GPS-to-reach-the-destination.” That’s it. No more. No less.
You scoff. “Something’s clearly bothering you. I don’t need your mind reading crap to know what you’re thinking.” You’re trying so hard not to take an argument out on him, especially when you’re driving to somewhere you don’t even know. But Minho’s not dumb, you bet he already had everything planned out on his mind. There’s a reason for everything, so you don’t have anything against driving in the middle of the night, just because he insisted you to.
He voices. “I’m thinking about surprising you.” And when you glance at him sideways, there are those specks of playfulness glistening in his midnight orbs again. But there’s also something else, and it’s unfathomable. “Trust me, you’ll love it.” He reassures you with a somewhat forced smile, one that doesn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Fine.” You sigh in defeat, carefully pulling over not to hit the tree by the road.
Minho jumps out of the vehicle first. “We’re here.” You roll your eyes at him playfully and follows not long after.
And the sight in front of your eyes leaves you speechless. Even in the eerie darkness, your eyes can still make out the vibrant display of multicolored flowers all over the green field. The sweet scent soon fills your nostrils, making your eyes go wide in awe. “Come on, over here.” Minho links his hand into yours and drags you along the dirt road, trying his best not to step on any flower. Once he stops, you realize that you’re in the middle of the field, surrounded by the most surreal things that you thought could only happen in fairy tales.
The sky represents a black curtain being draped over your entire universe, with milky swirls and glitter specks dancing elegantly in various patterns. It’s transcendental, you think. How the sight have all of your worries and concerns disintegrate into dust, how you’re here with him as time seems to stop when he looks at you with nothing but pure devotion in his eyes. You’re hanging by this moment, waiting for him to say something. “Do you like it ?” He breathes out ever so softly.
You nod repeatedly. “I love it, thank you, thank you, thank you !” Mixed emotions burst inside your chest and you unconsciously fall into his embrace as if you were meant to be there all along. You bury your head into the crook of his neck, letting his more than familiar cologne hug you like a warm blanket.
Minho opens his mouth to say something but snaps it close later on. The bitterness inside is making him nauseous, burying every last bit of courage to the bottom pit of his stomach. He has so much, so much to tell you yet nothing comes out right.
He’s the first to pull away. “I’m glad that you like it, Y/N.” Take good care of yourself, okay ?
“Of course I like it, it’s everything !” You smile, not noticing how there are tears brimming in the corners of his eyes when it’s so dark outside.
Minho tries to hide the shakiness in his voice. “Close your eyes, the stars will grant a wish to whoever has enough sincerity and purity.” You’ll be fine without me, will you ?
“A wish ? I guess…” You close your eyes, tightening the grip on Minho’s hands, accidentally ignoring how his hands are getting colder, and colder by the second. “There, I made a wish !” Your eyes fly open as you giggle happily. “We should come here more often, don’t you think ? Promise me that we’ll be here every week.” You extend your pinky finger outwards.
Minho nods, intertwining his finger with yours. “I promise.” I’ll miss you.
As a silent tear rolls down on his cheek, his orbs flash a shade of crimson red.
Tumblr media
eight & ½.
Changbin cries out dramatically. “Y/N, a little help over here ? Hello ?” He’s struggling real hard to open the door while carrying the groceries all by himself.
You quickly snap out of it, running to help him with the whopping five paper bags in his arms. “Sorry, I just thought that I saw someone who looked familiar.”
He cranes his neck tiredly after stuffing the bags into the backseats of his Tesla. “Could be some guy who reached out to you before. You know how the industry works, if they want you, they gotta have you. So be careful, creepy people are literally everywhere.”
“Right..” You trail off and jump into his car, shutting the door close. Even when Changbin twists his key and drives away from the supermarket, you can’t help but turn your head constantly to see if there’s anyone. On the way out, you made eye contact with someone, who has an odd ray of red in their eyes. Normally, things like this would have crept you out but you found an unexpected sense of familiarity in those eyes. Perhaps you’ve met before ?
But why… red ?
“Hey Bin…” You start. “Do you believe in soulmates ?”
Changbin snickers. “What the fuck is wrong with you today ? Are you sick ?”
You wave your hand to brush the topic off. “You’re right, I stayed up until three last night, can really use a nap right now.” Maybe everything’s in your head after all.
But little did you know, from across the streets, the silhouette of a demon who once shared unforgettable memories with you is embedded onto the cold brick wall. Minho has his arms crossed in front of his chest, mind blank, eyes empty. He only dares to watch in silence as your friend drives you away, fighting back the voices inside his head that are yelling at him to just hug you, to see your smile, to hear your laughter.
Little did you know, he longs to be by your side again. Minho tried to force himself into hating you but he can’t. He can’t because you taught him how to love, because you mean far more than just the universe to him, because blaming hurts more than trying to forget you. But before things get out of hand, he managed to get a hold of himself and decided to cut ties with you for good.
This is for the better, he keeps telling himself.
People say that there’s no sorrow in the demons. Since joy and sorrow are like fire and ice, there’s no possibilities for them to exist in the same subject. Demons are believed to find joy in those who despise God’s commands, and rejoice over this kind of sinister power. Therefore, there’s no sorrow in the demons. Meaning, demons can never feel heartbroken because they simply don’t have one.
If so, then why can Minho hear something shattering into pieces inside his chest ? That’s because he’s experienced something other demons aren’t supposed to. He finally knows what it feels like to actually be ‘someone’ to someone, what it feels like to think of them all day and smile stupidly about it.
And that’s something other demons are fortunate enough to not get themselves into. Because they wouldn’t want to know how painful it is to not being able to be with their loved one. Demons attract other demons by their scents so if a demon fell in love with a mortal being, that one human will live in constant danger.
Not to mention, it’s going against God to fall in love with someone who’s so different, so out of reach. And Minho could never risk losing you to anything but he can risk it all to protect you.
“I just feel so fucking broken.”
“You’ll be fine.” Hyunjin gently places a hand on his friend’s shoulder.
But it is love after all… what can he do ?

Virgil’s Guide To Avoid Accidentally Falling In Love With Your Boss’ Boss: Step Five
Virgil’s just trying to fake his way through life, but when he finds it hard to shake his hot boss’ boss’s attention- on account of their adopted sons being twins- things get complicated. Ao3
~~~~
Step Five: Do Not Go On A Date
I was right,” Dee nodded pleased with himself. “You look great in my suits.”
Virgil blushed more than he wanted to, “Are you sure it’s okay that I wear this?”
“Completely,” Dee nodded circling him. “It’s actually a bit small for me anyway.”
Virgil nodded and glanced at the crisp dark grey suit in the mirror. It fit perfectly, and he had to admit he was a fan of the purple shirt Dee had picked out to go underneath. But with Dee’s style there’s no surprise he’d know what he was doing. His gaze shifted to Dee’s face in the mirror only to find Dee’s eyes were focused on his rear.
Virgil’s face heated up as memories from the night previously surfaced.
“Um... can I ask you something?” Virgil asked awkwardly.
Dee’s eyes met his in the mirror, “Let’s hold that thought until we drop the boys off, okay?”
“Okay...”
~~~~
“I think you’re attractive, adorable, kind, and overall an amazing guy. I’ve liked you for a while Virgil. And quite frankly something in me is telling me it’s mutual. Maybe it’s just what I hope, or maybe it’s the way you stared at me when I intentionally came into your room shirtless to wake you up. Regardless, I want to take you out. So, will you go out with me?”
Virgil was thankful Dee was driving, because he was pretty sure he would’ve driven them both into a tree in shock.
Instead his mouth opened and closed a few times, before he nodded. “Um, yeah. I’ve liked you a lot too, but I um... well...” Virgil trailed off trying to figure out exactly how to explain thoughts that didn’t even make sense to him, but Dee only smiled in response.
“Perfect. What are you doing Saturday?”
“Um, I was going to take Roman out to have a ‘Roman Day’. What about Sunday?”
“Sunday works for me. You could meet me at my place with Roman and I can be there ready to go with a babysitter?”
Virgil nodded in agreement. “Did you have something in mind?”
His boss’ eyes lit up as if he had been waiting for Virgil to ask, “It’s a surprise.”
~~~~
“Virgil? Can I say something?”
Virgil blinked as the meeting stopped abruptly, but nodded as Mike stood.
“I know we’re in the middle of a meeting, but I think this needs to be addressed... I apologize for accusing you to getting to know Ekans. I know some of us gave you grief thinking you were trying to steal the promotion- congrats to David by the way.”
A few other coworker murmured in agreement but Jeff spoke, “Why are you guys close anyway?”
“The same thing I always said,” Virgil stated. “Our adopted sons are brothers.”
“There has to be more than that,” Cheryl urged. “The man gave you rides.”
Virgil shook his head, they didn’t need to know about the small detail that he was going on a date with their boss this weekend. “That’s all it is.”
~~~~
“Somehow Dee looked better than usual tonight.
He was dressed casually in dark jeans and a nice button up, and yet it still managed to be perfect in a way Virgil couldn’t quite understand.
“You look nice,” Dee smiled- no that was a smirk- as Virgil entered the home.
“You too,” Virgil nodded stepping inside. Inside Roman had already sat down beside Remus and Logan, so Virgil was left to do nothing but stand beside Dee anxiously.
“The babysitter should be here soon, and then we can go,” Dee informed him going to sit on the couch to watch the boys. Virgil followed.
“Oh! Mr. Dee we got you a present too!” Roman told the man holding up a plastic bag. Virgil blinked in surprise, right he had gotten the three of them souvenirs yesterday.
“We went to the zoo!” Roman told him happily. “So we got Logan an animal book, Remus a stuffed animal, and you a funny shirt!”
Dee opened the shirt- a forced smile on his face.
He hated it.
 Virgil knew he shouldn’t have gotten him a stupid pun shirt. The man could get anything he wanted. The man had expensive clothing, what would he do with such a tacky shirt. He’d just donate it wouldn’t he? He’d toss it out like the nothing it-
“Right Dad?”
Virgil blinked listening back into the conversation. “Hm?”
“I told Mr. Dee that we saw the entire zoo! It was so big that we got tired and took breaks.”
Virgil chuckled, “Very true. I got a lot of pictures too.”
“Can I see?” Remus asked coming closer, and behind him Logan’s eyes peeked up from behind his book.
Virgil pulled up the pictures on his phone for the boys to see as the doorbell rang.
The babysitter was a girl in her early twenties, Virgil couldn’t help but feel a tad skeptical but Dee had used her before so he couldn’t argue.
Not to mention, Dee seemed... upset.
“So where are we going?” Virgil asked cautiously after they had driven for a few minutes in silence.
Dee flexed his fingers around the steering wheel as he gave a slight frown, “Surprise.”
“Oh, okay...” He took a deep breath and tried for conversation again. “The whole time we were at the zoo, Roman kept going on about how much Remus and Logan would enjoy it. And how next time they have to come with. So we should probably add that to the eternally long list of things the boys want then?”
Dee’s answer was curt as he glared out at the road, “Yeah.”
That shirt had really been the wrong move.
The silence which had occurred persisted until Dee eventually pulled into a parking space.
“A carnival?” Virgil asked in surprise.
“Do you like carnivals?” Was Dee’s worried reply.
“Well yeah, but I’m not sure the last time I went without Roman.”
“That’s the point,” Dee replied shortly getting out of the car. “Let’s go.”
They had started with carnival games where Dee’s anger seemed to begin dissipate as he watched and laughed at Virgil fail horribly at every single one.
“Are there any games you're even decent at?” Dee chuckled.
Virgil gave a huff which was more immature than he’d like to admit. “I’m sorry you come here a lot so you’re great at everything.”
“I don’t actually,” he laughed. “I haven’t been here since- since the divorce...”
Shit Virgil had just made things worse hadn’t he?
“How about we get on some rides?” Dee asked starting to walk away. “Unless you want to lose some more?” The attempt at humor was appreciated but nothing more came from it as they headed towards the rides.
~~~~
The conversation inside the ferris wheel had lapsed briefly and in the moment’s silence Virgil couldn’t help but give a slight chuckle as he thought on how the evening had begun. He was so sure this date would be a disaster after the way Dee had seemed so upset when they left, but now he would certainly agree to a second date if asked.
“What did I do that’s funny?”
Virgil refocused on Dee’s face as the man popped a bit of cotton candy in his mouth, “I was just thinking that everyone at work would laugh if they saw you right now.”
Dee rolled his eyes, “I can have fun. It’s not like I live at work.”
“I know that.”
“Good... And I wanted to apologize too,” Dee said awkwardly looking out the side of the ferris wheel at the rest of the carnival. “I was kind of angry at myself at the start, and I didn’t mean to upset you at all.
“Angry at yourself?” Virgil repeated confused.
“My plan for this date was actually to go to the zoo, they have really nice lights and things at night. But um, apparently you took Roman yesterday so I had to come up with something on the spot. So uh, glad you don't hate carnivals?”
“So... you weren’t upset because I got you a tacky shirt?”
Dee looked back to Virgil and stared at him blankly before a laugh escaped, “You thought I was mad over a shirt?”
Virgil blushed involuntarily as he gave a shrug, “Maybe...”
Dee only laughed harder and after a moment of watching him, Virgil couldn’t help but laugh too.
They must have looked like a couple of idiots sitting at the top of the ferris wheel laughing their asses off, but quite frankly Virgil couldn’t have had it any other way.
“Thank you Virgil,” Dee smiled as they calmed down he must have seen Virgil’s confused look as he stood and moved to sit beside Virgil instead of across from him. “It's been awhile since I laughed like that at absolutely nothing... A long while.”
Virgil smiled back, “Well I'm glad my freaking out was useful.”
Dee didn’t say anything, but it's not like he had to. Virgil was just grateful for how close they were to one another. For once he didn’t need to stress about the boundaries between boss and employee or the boundaries between friends. Dee was here, and Virgil could just enjoy that.
He didn’t even realize what he was doing as he reached out and touched Dee’s face. He ran his fingers lightly over the scars, as he traced them with his eyes. Whatever had happened must have been painful, but now in some strange way they seemed to add to the unusual beauty that was Dante Ekans- that was Dee.
Virgil continued tracing his finger close to Dee’s yellow-green eye and Virgil didn’t miss how his eyebrow raised in something like amusement.
“Sorry,” Virgil replied pulling his hand away.
Dee opened his mouth to speak, but it was then Virgil noticed their surroundings and he pulled farther away, “We’re next to get out.”
Dee closed his mouth and looked behind him with a short nod, “So we are.”
He shouldn’t have done that. It was a bad idea. A super bad idea. He crossed a line. A giant line. It wasn’t like he was touching the other side of Dee’s face. He was touching Dee’s scars. Scars. He had no business messing in things he knew nothing about. So what if Dee didn’t seem bothered and he had carried on like nothing had happened? It was a crossed line. One which shouldn’t have been crossed.
God, why was he such a screw up at life?
Roman was half asleep by the time they were back. Virgil chuckled as he picked up his son- Jesus he had gotten big.
“I’m not tired,” Roman yawned into Virgil’s side.
“I know,” Virgil replied moving towards the door where Dee was standing watching him with a smile. “Thank you for tonight... And I’m sorry again, I shouldn’t have... Not without permission...”
Dee rolled his eyes, “Stop it. It's actually refreshing to find a person who doesn’t hate them.”
“Still I shouldn’t have-”
Virgil’s words were cut off as Dee leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, “It’s fine Virgil. Have a good night.”
It took Virgil three tries to respond and even then his voice came out softly, “Night.”
Pieces of You - Part 3
Tumblr media
Mayor Damien x reader
| Part One |  | Part Two |
Warnings: alcohol consumption, mentions of death
Word Count: 1,750
Series Summary: Damien is your world, and you are his light. One night, just shy of the long-awaited evening on which he’s planned to ask for your hand in marriage, he goes out for a poker night reunion with old friends at the Markiplier manor. He doesn’t come back.
a/n: Damien isn’t REALLY in this one because...well, you know. But there’s a cute little bit in there to make up for the pain. A couple more parts left to this one so stay tuned! Comment or message me if you’d like to be added to the tag list. x
Damien was missing.
The morning following the party, you woke up to find Damien’s half of the bed still cold. You had expected as much, though, knowing that he would wait to sleep off whatever he’d drank that night before attempting to come home. You didn’t think much of it as you went about your day, running a couple errands before coming home to relax and read for the remainder of your day off.
  When the late afternoon rolled around, you began to wonder where he might be. Perhaps the boys had decided on spending the day together at the manor, as well? You looked up Mark’s number in Damien’s contact book, but there was no answer when you called. None the second or third time, either.
You began to get worried. Night had begun to fall, and still no sign of him. You were temped to try to head out to the manor yourself to check in on them, but you didn’t want to pry. That, and a tug somewhere deep in the back of your mind told you that it was the wrong decision to make. You went to bed alone again that night, after another call, but you didn’t fall asleep.
When the light of the next morning disturbed you from the small phase of rest you had finally fallen into, you were alone again. And now, you were concerned. You showed up to work with your eyelids heavy and shoulders tight, almost frantic in your requests for the situation to be addressed immediately.
It turned out, Mark himself had also gone missing, as well as those staffed at the manor. The DA and the detective, too. Even the Colonel. Everyone who had been at the party that night had disappeared without a trace. Everyone went straight to work in the hunt for them, but there wasn’t much to go on.
You weren’t the biggest fan of Damien’s sister, Celine. Your relationship had always been a bit tense, at best. You knew that most of your disagreements stemmed for her deep love for her twin brother, her desire to protect him; nevertheless, despite your hesitancies toward each other, you tolerated one  another for Damien’s sake.
She was perhaps the last hope in finding out what had happened, if her abilities were to be believed, so you gave her a call. When she didn’t answer, you drove out to confront her, face-to-face.
She wasn’t home. And you had the creeping suspicion that she hadn’t been for some time.
Gone. They were all just…gone.
And you were left to pick up the pieces.
Your eyelids were heavy as you sifted through ever-growing piles of paperwork at your desk. With the absence of the DA, positions had changed, work had been redistributed, and you were busier than ever. Not that you minded. The extra work was a distraction, a reason to spend a couple extra hours in your office instead of spending yet another long night at home alone.
Friends had reached out, of course; a couple of your closest had let you know there was always an open bed or couch at their place on the nights that sleeping in your house alone was too much. You had yet to take any of them up on their offer.
Coworkers, too, and those who worked with Damien had all tried their best to band together in light of his, as well as the DA’s, absence. You acknowledged that you weren’t the only one hurting by the disappearances, that you couldn’t simply shut down and give up on the responsibilities now on your shoulders, that you needed to be there for others just as much as you needed them…
But Damien was gone. Damien. The man who had somehow wrestled his way into your heart, who had become your absolute everything. And, so far, there wasn’t a sign of him ever coming back.
A light knock at your door finally registered in your mind, and you slowly lifted your head and peered to see one of the young interns standing outside your door. You waved her in with a heavy hand, and the door opened with a soft click.
  “Afternoon.” She nodded her head slightly in greeting, her hands grasping a cream-colored folder. “How are you?”
It was a question you hated more than anything now, but you knew she meant well. “I’m just fine.” You reached a hand out toward her as she neared your desk, and muttered thanks as you took the folder from her.
“That’s good,” the girl answered, her voice slightly higher with the uncertainty peeking through her voice. She gestured toward the file that you now held in your hands. “I hope this is what you were looking for.”
You flicked through the papers contained inside the file with an affirming nod. “Yes, this will be helpful.” You looked back up to the girl, an intern who had been with the DA’s office for a little over a year now. She was one of the top of her class and in her final year of university, which meant she only had a few more weeks left in the office. You felt a pang of guilt that you had just remembered the fact; these last couple months, you’d hardly spoken to her at all, and you had realized how quiet she’d grown around you.
You nodded with a forced smile. “Thank you.”
She reached to straighten her glasses on one side, a faint blush creeping across her cheeks and her eyes shifting down toward your desk as she somewhat stuttered through her next words. “I, um…I know there’s really nothing that I can do to help…but I just, wanted you to know—”
“I know.” You politely stopped her, laying down the file and laying a hand flat across your desk. “I appreciate it. Thank you.”
It was always like this. No one quite knew what to say. Your relationship with Damien was no secret; he couldn’t have kept quiet about it if he tried. Your friendships with the DA and the detective were well-known in the office, as well, and to lose them all at once had been more than you’d thought you could handle.
Somehow, you were still hanging on, taking things a day at a time. Only because you held on to the hope that someday, they would come back. One day Damien would come home.
He had to.
“What do you think of this one?”
Damien stepped out from behind the door of the private fitting room in the back of the shop, revealing the deep blue suit jacket and pants he’d chosen to try on next, his crisp white shirt underneath. He was still straightening the lapels of the jacket as he emerged, eagerly anticipating your thoughts.
You fanned yourself, only half-jokingly. “Why, Mayor. You’re looking exceptionally handsome.”
Damien couldn’t have hidden the sudden rush of faintest pink to his cheeks even if he’d tried. After all this time, you still made him feel as flushed with overwhelming affection as you had when you’d first, and finally, agreed to date him.
“You said that about the last two,” he replied with a teasing roll of his eyes, an effort to recover himself as he turned toward the mirror that occupied one entire wall in the room. “This dinner is a big deal, you know.”
You stepped over, throwing your arms around his middle and lightly resting your head on his shoulder as you looked into the mirror with him. “Well, I meant it all three times. But I think this is the one.”
Damien’s uncertain smile widened to match yours, knowing you were right. “Alright then.”
He turned to press a light kiss to the top of your head. “But I still won’t come anywhere close to looking as stunning as you, my love.”
You smiled down at the photo you’d used as a bookmark for ages; a Polaroid picture of you and Damien, in the very suit you’d picked out for him, standing at the foot of a spiral staircase at some event you couldn’t even recall the purpose of. But you could remember the Friday night itself as if it were just last week.
And yet another Friday night had come.
Some others in the office had invited you to come out for some drinks; the week had been long and loaded down with work, and everyone was in need of a much-deserved break. You politely declined, instead insisting you just needed go home and rest your eyes for a while.
Besides, if you were going to drink, you could drink at home just fine.
You were well into a bottle of wine, curled up on your couch in the living room as you blankly stared at the mindless sitcom playing on your tv. It had originally only been background noise for you as you prepared to dive back into a novel you’d been trying to finish for weeks, but it wasn’t lock before your eyes were crossing and the words became hazy, both from the alcohol in your system and the seemingly never-ending weight of exhaustion that pulled you down deeper underneath the bundle of blankets you’d thrown over yourself.
You had leaned forward to the coffee table in front of you, preparing to pour yourself another glass of the dark liquid you heard the distinct rumble of a car engine just outside the house. You froze as you listened, then quickly sat down the bottle and threw the blankets off of your body when the sound abruptly stopped. Someone was out there.
You didn’t want to get your hopes up, didn’t want to assume, but your heart was regardless beating almost faster than your body could keep up with as you scrambled toward the door, barefoot and hair disheveled with the distinct red eyes of someone who had been crying, looking an absolute mess…
But however you must have appeared, the man at your door looked at least twice as rough.
You could hardly choke out his name.
“Abe?”
You had a hundred, a thousand questions. But you couldn’t bring yourself to utter a single word further, bile suddenly thick and burning in your throat.
Where’s Damien. Where is he.
The detective sniffed, his eyes wired and pleading as he took off his hat and slowly wrung it between his hands as you stared numbly back at him.
“We need to talk.”
I'm home
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It’s been a while I hope you like it😫)
Drinking your freshly brewed coffee as you sat in your office while observing the outside scenery from the window. It’s been exactly five years since you have been married to Chris or formally known as Bang Chan from Stray Kids. What started as a random encounter turned into blissful romance.
You both fought hard to keep your relationship going from the company, parents, and of course the fans. But successfully, everyone saw how much your love for one other is and eventually let it be. This is what you wanted right, to finally be with Chan without second-guessing yourself. So why are you unhappy. The public thinks you guys are living the happy married life together, but in private, you guys were struggling. To start it off, Bang Chan still works for JYP. Meaning, he lives in Seoul while he also lives in Australia which is where you live. You’ve been pushing about wanting to start a family with him ever since you guys got married but the long-distance is becoming a real issue.
You knew how much he loved his career and you support him fully without a doubt. But you couldn’t take it. Because to be honest, you were just lonely. It’s been 8 months since the last time you guys saw each other, felt each other, and kiss each other. You longed for him physically but you knew it wasn’t you say so. You accepted the long distance while you guys were dating but now being married, it was a different story.
Last night, you decided to call him up but that was a horrible idea. You just wanted to check up on him, but it escalated to an intense argument. The last thing you remember is him saying to you, “why the fuck am I still with you!” You never felt so broken that you barely got sleep last night.
Now you're in your office, trying your best to get through the day. On cue, that’s when your coworkers, Lia, Beth, and Maxine came in.
“Y/N did you not see my text messages I sent you!” said Lia
“Oh I’m sorry I haven’t been on my phone” you replied quietly
The girls were always used to your uplifting spirit but notice a sad tone in your voice
“Hey honey you ok?” Beth asked walked closer to you
That’s when finally last night’s emotion hit you. You started brawling in front of your friends while they immediately comfort you. You began to tell them everything that has happened.
“Oh my goodness, I never knew you were dealing with this sweetie,” Maxine says as she hugs you
“I don’t know what to do anymore, does he even love me or are we just staying together because of how hard we fought to be together, “ you say as more tears begin to fall down your cheek
“Don’t say that girl, you know he loves you melanin and all! You guys fought because of how much you love each other. That’s what matters” Maxine states
“But I can’t believe he said that to you, he knows I will literally go to Seoul to beat his ass up!” Lia replied which made you guys giggle
“Exactly go book a flight now and a hotel too” Beth added
“Oh guys stop,” you say now laughing as the tears start to dry
”You know what we can do to cheer you up!” Lia gasped
The girls looked at each other unsure
”THE CLUB” Lia yelled excitedly
”oh my goodness yasss, we can go to the one that just opened!” Beth added
” Uhh guys I'm not sure going to the club will help my problem,” y/n said
”Trust us y/n, the more you stress, the more you will become depressed. So let just let go for one night. ” Maxine says sweetly
You did want to forget about what happened last night so you agreed
”yayyy we gonna party!” Lia jumped up and down
”umm guys, is it ok if I invite Susie, you know she's new to town and I want to show her around,” Beth asked
”of course, she can come” you answered unaware of the butterfly effect you just created
After two hours of getting ready, you examined your self in the mirror. Your hair was up in a high ponytail, smokey face look, a strapless burgundy dress that hugged your curves and lace heels.
”Your gonna have a fun night,” you tell yourself as you hear beeping outside
As you guys were at the club, the girls literally on cloud nine. But you were still in your mood because of what Chan said. That's when Susie, the coworker came over to you
”Hey I heard what happened to you,” Susie said
”of course you did, Beth has a big mouth,” you said rubbing your forehead
”Heyy you need a drink, I'll go get one for you ” She winked and left before you can decline her suggestion
As Susie received your drink, she turned around (with her back facing you ) and dropped a small pill inside of it. When the pill dissolved she walked right toward you
”Here this will help you to let loose” Susie says as she hands you your drink
Your mind was screaming at you don't do it. But you just want to let go of all this hurt you were feeling.As you finished the drink, a rush of adrenaline took over your body in an instant.
After at least ten minutes, you were dancing on top of the bar table while the crowd cheers you on too. Your friends taking videos of you while hyping you up. That when you saw a man from across the room looking at you. The way he stared at you made you dance sexier. He began to smirk and lick his lips at you. Enjoying the effect you had on him, you got off the bar table.
”Girl what was that, you were killin it,” Lia said chapping her hands
” You said get loose so I'm doing exactly that. ” you said flipping your ponytail as you walk toward the mysterious man
As you walked toward him, he stands up from his seat. You got a good look at him, muscles trying their best out hold inside his button-up shirt, hair perfectly styled, and a smile that can light up the room.
”What's your name, handsome?” you asked
”B/W (your bias wrecker) ” he said with a smile
” mmm, you wanna dance,” you said stretch your arm out to him
He took it as you brought him to the center of the dance floor. You two began dancing for quite a while until the DJ started to play slow R&B aka sexual music. (B/W) held your waist and brought you closer to him. You felt everything as his body and your body closed the gap between you too. The feeling was addicting as you feel his lips shadow your neck and bulge on your thigh. You look up at him slowly to meet his eyes. Once both of your eyes met, all you saw was darkness and lust
As you open your eyes, you began stretching. But that's when you felt immediately nauseous, jumped out of bed, and sprinted to the bathroom. After throwing up for the fourth time. You tried reaching for the toilet paper where you usually put it but all you felt was a wall. That when your senses hit you, this wasn't your house.
As you look around your surroundings., you realized. This was a hotel! Maybe the girls and I crashed her because we were so drunk. So you washed up and left the bathroom. As you were walking toward the bedroom, you halt your action immediately. You looked on the floor and saw clothes. But not only yours, male clothes too. So many thoughts filled your head as it pounds. You finally reached the bed and saw him, (B/W) sleeping peacefully yet naked. That when you started to remember everything last night. You felt can not be described. Guilt layer 1 You quickly put on your clothes, grabbed your phone and bolted out of the building.
As you reached home you hopped into the shower. You began to break down letting all last night's mistakes and your latest fight with Chan flood the shower. You cheated on your husband replied over and over in your brain. As guilt flood the atmosphere. You felt extremely horrible but you knew you had to tell him. Guilt layer 2
As you got changed and decided to empty the trash, as you were organizing from the recyclables to the trash, you found a pregnancy box. That’s when you felt a cold chill rise. You forgot to check if you wore a condom, but you rushed out of the hotel room without asking the man. What you were about to do felt sick but you wanted to make sure
After waiting the exact time, you finally saw your results...you never wanted to jump out of a window so badly but you couldn’t since there was not another human inside you. You called up Maxine, telling her everything while balling your eyes out. Guilt layer part 3
” I'm a horrible wife, Maxine. I got so sad that I drank my feelings out because my husband said he doesn't know why he's with me. A-and I made an m-mistake and slept with (B/W) and now I'm giving pregnant. Pregnant from someone who isn't my husband! ” you cried out in pain while lying down in the floor
” y/n how did you even get this drunk in the first place?” Maxine asked
”Well Susie gave a drink, it tasted very fizzy for a drink. ” you said as you sniffed
”Oh my fucking gosh that bitch drugged you. I knew there was something wrong with her I just couldn't put my finger in it. One of my coworkers says they were there last night as saw her in the act but was too drunk to remember until this morning. I'm so sorry I should if stood by you” Maxine explain sadly
”So I'm a cheating worthless wife, who got pregnant over a one night stand because j was drugged by my co worker..” you say blankly analyzing how broken you felt. Your emotions are now numb, realizing everything was your fault. If you would have just said no all of these events would not have taken place. But the only person you can blame is yourself. Guilt layer 4
”y/n don't do anything stupid, we're coming over there right now,” Maxine says but you hung up the phone without giving her an answer
You got up from the floor and loom in the mirror. Your hair was a mess, your face, and a bit swelled from all the crying. You took a deep breath and try telling your self you will be ok. You grabbed the pregnancy test and walked out of the bathroom. Once you enter the living room, you halt your movements as your eyes couldn't believe what you were seeing.
Your one-night stand (B/W) standing with your purse that you probably left at the hotel in his hands while displaying shook expression. But that's not what you shocked about. It was because your husband was also standing in your shared living room with your favorite flowers in his hands looking at you with an expression you can't identify.
Both men are looking at you, while you looking at them thinking this was a dream. But somehow you were still missing something. Your eyes turned traveled to the living table where all you guys family photos we're placed. But there was one photo that stood out the most. It was a photo of your husband and (B/w) in a picture together, a high school picture together. Now all the puzzles pieces are now connected. B/w was chan childhood friend he has mentions you about but you never really met him until now well last night. As the final cherry on top, the guilt cake was completed of worse wife ever. It like Chan knew your realization, he heard everything you said from the bathroom since you were practically yelling and especially (B/W) too.
That when Chan began to speak
”I'm home”
In Your Dreams
Steve Harrington x Reader
Summary: The reader has a dream about Steve. Angst/fluff.
Warnings: cursing and a brief/insinuated conversation of sex.
Word Count: 2.4K
Y/N looked into the mirror, putting on one final swipe of mascara. She smiled lightly to herself, pleased with how she looked. She felt antsy and nervous for some reason, but she couldn’t quite tell what. A honk outside of her home, jolted her back to reality. She grabbed the bag that was laying on her bed and rushed out the door. upon seeing the maroon BMW idling in her driveway, a rush of butterflies swarmed her stomach and her hands got a bit more clammy. She walked slowly to the car, only to have the sweet boy fun to the passenger door and open it for her. Flush lined her cheeks, and she coyly thanked him for being so sweet.
“Y/N/N, you look absolutely beautiful.”
“Thanks Stevie. You don’t look too bad yourself.”
Time seemed to fly by as the she was having the time of her life on the date of her dreams. Steve pulled the car into her driveway and he reached over to lay a hand on top of hers.
“Y/N/N, I...think i might be in love with you.” Her smile spread across her face, beaming with joy at the declaration of love laid forth to her.
“Stevie, I know I’m in love with you.” Closing the distance between the two was her number one priority at the moment. She wanted nothing more than her lips to collide with his. She inched closer and closer and closer...
Y/N’s alarm blared through her room, seemingly louder than normal. She shot up straight in her bed.
“I’m so fucked.” She couldn’t stop thinking about the dream she just had about her best friend Steve Harrington. It had only been a few months since he started working at the video store with her, but just in that short time they, along with Robin, had become especially close. And sure, they playfully flirted and bantered, but that’s what it was, play, right? They were just best friends, right?
As she was getting ready for her shift, her thoughts were racing thinking about the dream she just had about him. She couldn’t stop thinking about what had happened in the dream. She had so much fun, and was super happy. She felt love sick in the dream, and that was starting to seep into her real life.
The drive to work was almost unbearable. She suddenly became hyper aware that she was going to have to see him for their shift in less than five minutes. She obviously couldn’t tell him about the dream, because that would make it seem like she liked him. Which maybe she does, she wasn’t sure what to think. Just as she pulled in, he pulled in from the opposite direction, Robin in his passenger seat. Y/N immediately put her car in park and ran in so she could get the stock job for the day, so she could be alone. She heard Robin and Steve both yelling for her, but ignored them. Her thoughts were starting to swallow her whole.
“Hey Y/N/N.”
“Hi Steve.” She replied back coldly.
“Steve? You never call me Steve, you always call me Stevie. Is something wrong?”
“Everything is fine Steve, now if you’d excuse me, i have to organize all of these or else my ass is grass.” She blankly said to him, turning to focus on her work instead of him. She was also turning away to hide the blush that was beginning to splay across her cheeks. She couldn’t help it. She had one of THOSE dreams about him.
Y/N worked as diligently as she could, with her mind always coming back to Steve. Steve and his perfect hair, and his dorky but lovable personality. Steve and his constant need to make sure everybody else is okay before himself. Steve and his cute voice, and perfect laugh. Steve and his chiseled, yet comfortable body. Steve, Steve, Steve was all she could think about.
“Damn Y/N, who’s the lucky guy you’re drooling over?” She was pulled from her daydream over the dumb boy working the front of store by her other best friend Robin.
“It’s no one.” She glanced to Steve, her heart beating a little faster. “It’s not a big deal.”
“What happened between yesterday and today that you finally know your feelings for Steve?”
“Robin, quiet down. I had one of THOSE dreams about him last night and it’s just kind of throwing me for a loop-Wait, did you say finally know them?”
“Yes, it’s obvious how you feel about him. It’s kinda gross how often you give him puppy eyes. Tell me about this dream you had.”
“Rob, you’re joking right?”
“No, I’m not. Let’s hear it, Y/N/N.” Robins voice was thick with mockery of Steve saying her nickname. Y/N struggled to decide if she should tell Robin about the dream or not, eventually deciding that if she didn’t tell her right now, Robin would get it out of her with constant pestering.
“It wasn’t that bad, okay? It was just one of those dreams where you go to bed thinking about someone one way and wake up feeling completely different.” Robin looked at her, and waved her hand to tell her to continue telling her what happened in the dream.
“Okay, so the dream started with me getting ready for what i assumed to be a date with some random guy. Little did i know, that it was actually a date with Steve. i got into his car, and he told me i was beautiful and i flirted back naturally. And then i had the best date i think i could ever ask for. Literally the date of my dreams. And then we came back to my house and we were sitting in my driveway, and he told me he was in love with me and i told him it back and just when we were gonna kiss my alarm went off. And now I’m royally fucked because i cant even look at him without getting butterflies.”
Robin stared at the girl for a few seconds not saying anything, before bursting into a fit of laughter. Thus causing everyone in the store, including Steve to look back at the two girls standing at the counter. And to those who saw it, was probably a treat. One girl was sitting there cracking up laughing and the other was staring at her mortified as to why she was laughing.
“Robin, calm down. Why are you laughing? People are staring.” Just as she said that, Steve and her made direct eye contact. She quickly looked away, heat spreading through her entire body.
“I’m sorry, like genuinely.But oh my god, I just can’t believe that you’re in love with that dingus.”
“What dingus?” Steve said approaching the two calmly. Y/N’s eyes grew to be as big as saucers.
“No one. I really don’t want to talk about it right now.” Y/N said before turning to Robin and saying, “If you say anything, I will actually murder you.” With that, she walked back to the storage room and continued to organize.
Her shift went agonizingly slow, especially since both her and Steve worked a double. Meaning, when it came time to close only the two of them were left. She finished the stack of movies in the back, and filled out the stock form. After leaving the storage room, she noticed that the drawer wasn’t done yet, and Steve was still cleaning up.
“Y/N/N, that’s technically my job today. You don’t have to do that.”
“If you finish cleaning and I do the drawer, we’ll be out of here a lot quicker than if you did both.”
“That’s true, if we get done quickly, we might be able to make it to old diner on Main Street before they close. Maybe get some food?” Chills raised to her spine and butterflies filled her stomach, yet before she could even think about it she vomited out the words,
“I would love that.” His lips pulled into a dopey grin that she had grown to love over the past few months. Never the less, they both finished up their aspects of the job. Y/N put the money in the safe and reassembled the drawer for tomorrow’s openers and Steve got out the key ready to lock up. The door’s lock was turned and pulled, and they knew it was safe to leave.
“I think we have about forty five minutes until they close if you want to go?” Steve nodded to her asking.
“I’m down, I’ll just meet you over there then.” Her smile shone bright as the sun looking towards Steve. The two got into their cars, and began the trek to the diner.
She was beyond scared. Sure, she had spent plenty of time alone with Steve. Hell, she spent more time alone with him than with Robin. But that was also before she had a dream where they both proclaimed their love for each other. She pulled into the worn down diner with partially shredded booths and faded wallpaper.
She took a deep breath, recalling the memory of the first time they had come here after a long boring shift at the store. The two sat at a corner booth, and were as awkward as two coworkers who had just met two days ago could be. Quickly though, they found their footing in conversations varying from what their plans for the future were to how many times Dustin has described Suzie as being hotter than Phoebe Cates. And even though they had only met a few days prior, Steve already felt comfortable enough to tell her about all of the crazy shit that had gone down over the past few years. All of these conversations happened over French Fries and pancakes.
Three knocks on her window snapped her out of her daze, and she reached over to unbuckle, Steve opening the door for her before she could reach the handle herself. When they went inside, they sat in their regular corner booth. The waitress knew who they were, so only asked for their drink order and told them she put their order in when she saw them walking in.
“Ya know, it feels really nice to be so well taken care of here. Doesn’t happen many other places.” Steve said, fiddling with the sugar packets on the end of the table.
“You can say that again, certainly doesn’t happen at Family Video. If i have to cover one more shift for Keith without getting paid for managerial time I’m gonna lose it.” The two kept light conversation for a bit until their food came out, to which they were silenced by the food they were rapidly consuming.
“Y/N/N.” Steve said, suddenly sporting a serious tone.
“Yes Stevie?”
“What happened today? I don’t know if i did something, but you really scared me this morning. Something was clearly wrong, and i understand that you didn’t want to tell me, but it hurt that you pretended you were fine. And then with the whole Robin thing and how you told her not to say anything. i understand wanting to keep secrets, but... I don’t know... It sucks that you were that upset about me knowing.”
Y/N’s heart dropped to the pit of her stomach. She never wanted to make him feel like that. She never wanted to make him feel pain. She had never meant for any of this to happen. The girl took a deep breath, still unclear as to what she was going to say to the obviously heartbroken boy in front of her.
“Stevie, I’m so sorry. i just am going through something right now and I don’t really know how to talk about it. Robin pried it out of me, and I didn’t mean to make you feel not included. It’s just a lot.”
“Apology accepted.” he said to her with a smile, before reaching over to lay a hand atop hers. “Just remember that I’m always here for you, okay? And whenever you’re ready to talk about it, I’m here right?” She nodded a yes to him smiling.
“Alright, now did i tell you about Dustin falling down my steps the other day?”
“No you absolutely didn’t.” The two talked lightheartedly until the check was paid and they walked out of the diner still laughing a bit. When they got over to their cars, Steve pulled Y/N into a huge hug. She didn’t let go for a bit, but eventually accepted defeat in staying there forever. She walked over to her car and got in. She let her head hit the steering wheel. A surge of confidence took over her body, causing her to fly out of her seat and get into the passenger side door of his car.
“Y/N/N, what is happening right now?”
“Stevie, I’m gonna try to get this out as quick as i can before going back to my car and leaving. Okay, so why I was so moody today was because last night i had a dream where we went on a date and you told me you were in love with me and we almost kissed but my alarm kinda ruined the moment. All of today i was super nervous around you, because i had never realized how much i really love you until that dream. And now i definitely made things awkward so I’ll see you Thursday for our shift.”
She reached over to get out of the car before feeling a hand grab her arm. She started to turn around, only for a hand to grasp her face and pull her into a long, passionate kiss. The two melded together perfectly, like puzzle pieces that were meant to fit together. The two pulled away after running out of oxygen, both panting as smiles grew on their faces.
“Kinda sucks your dream ended before that, huh?” Steve said jokingly.
“Ha-Ha-Ha.” Her words, dripping with sarcasm.
“In case you couldn’t tell. I’m in love with you too. It’s kinda funny. I had a dream just like that last week, except mine went a little bit further than kissing, if you know what I’m saying.”
“Steve! Slow your roll. We just confessed our love, we can at least wait until tomorrow damn.”
He laughed a little before pulling her in for one last goodnight kiss.
