Louise Bourgeois
I am looking into this artist for her work with sculpture, I am planning on creating some sort of spider sculpture in the future based on a nightmare I had and I thought that this artists work could help me with how to go about doing so.
Louise was a french-american artist. she was known for working with her large scale sculptures and installation pieces but she was also a painter and a printmaker. She explored a variety of themes over her years which included family, sexuality and death. these themes connected to events from her childhood, she considered the process of creating her artwork a therapeutic process. Her work has much in common with surrealism and feminist art even though she was not formally affiliated with a particular artistic movement.
Spider is a giant sculpture of an arachnid that stands on the floor. The artwork is made of bronze and granite and was created in 1994 by the French-born American artist Louise Bourgeois. One of the first of many sculptures of spiders made by the artist, Spider measures 2743 x 4572 x 3785 mm, such that it is large enough to occupy the entire space of a room

Dreams & Nightmares: The Virtual Reality Game
A diary of my strangest dreams and nightmares turned into a short story format. I started writing down my dreams and nightmares as soon as I woke up to get every detail. That’s when I decided to write a blog diary because they were so vivid. Names have changed to protect the personal information of family members or friends, or I did not know who they were in real life. You can interact at the end of each story with your thoughts or your dreams and nightmares.
The Virtual Reality Game
I asked my husband if I could have a go on the game he was playing. He was having way too much fun to let me on, so I put on the virtual reality headset. Once in the game, I could be any character I wanted to be. I chose an R2D2, the character from star wars; only it was a vacuum cleaner.
The Mall
I looked around the room, and I was in a mall. I could see an ample open space with stores that were closed and a winding staircase. The mall was empty except for the players. To my right, one player drove by in a tiny small car and past the far side of the staircase. To my left were two humans, one female and the other male; they were casually talking. They looked like regular human beings wearing casual clothing, jeans and t-shirts. They walked towards a small set of stairs that led down to the next level leading out of the building. I heard strange noises, a roaring, grunting sound, and as I looked behind me, down the far side of the mall, that’s when I saw it. A giant T-Rex is heading my way, teeth showing and swaying its head. Ready for the attack. I screamed out to the couple, ‘can I tag along with you guys.’ 'Sure,’ the male replied. 'Great! Let’s get out of here,’ I shouted as I tried to aim the gun at the dinosaur. I managed to fire the weapon, but I could not aim for some reason, and by the time I worked it out, I was out of bullets. We ran towards the small stairs and at the bottom was two dark hallways, to the left and right. We took the hallway route to the right, and it led us out of the building. 'We need ammo. We need to find a police station.’ I gasped.
The Police Station
Outside was derelict buildings and heaps of bricks and rubble everywhere. It looked like the end of the world. I ran towards a small alleyway to the left, and I thought the couple was following me. I gazed around cautiously, hoping the dinosaur wasn’t following me; the couple was nowhere; they must have gone in another direction. I saw movement down the alleyway and a small open building with lights on. A police officer, an older man with grey hair and a grey moustache, was sitting outside the building. He had two kids playing around and climbing all over him. I guessed they were his grandkids. I thought, how weird is that? It’s dangerous out here, and he is playing with these kids. I walked over to him and asked if I could have some weapons and big ones at that. The police officer laughed at me and replied, 'No, sorry, we can’t give weapons to civilians.’ I told him that it was perilous out there and needed some protection. 'All I have,’ he said, getting up from his chair, 'is this.’
Robocop and Ammo
I peered over him to see where he was pointing. It was a Robocop fully armed, and was another player controlling it. Thanking the police officer as he attached me onto the back of the Robocop, I could see the gutter I was so high up. In the guttering was a row of glowing round objects. On passing these objects on the way out of the alleyway, I quickly grabbed a couple. 'Robocop, what are these? If I open them, they are not going to explode on me, are they?’ curiously asking as I tried to open one. 'No,’ he replied. I opened up the round object, kind of like when you get a kinder egg, but it was clear plastic. Inside was a jelly formed substance, not sticky at all. The longer I held it, the more it began to take shape. It opened up into a flat Frisbee. 'Whoa,’ I thought to myself, 'this could come in handy.’ 'What does it do?’ I asked. 'It genetically attaches to you, so it knows where to return to when in use,’ he answered.
Distraction
As we walked past the derelict buildings and rubble, we could see a sandy ground with more derelict buildings that had collapsed to the size of an average wall. There was a lot of commotion going on over there. It looked like gangs of people who were being verbally aggressive towards us. I think they wanted to hurt us. It was an opportunity to use one of my new weaponised toys. I opened up the other round object and threw it towards them, and it just started making a tune from a Walt Disney movie. It was so funny I had to laugh. All these tough guys were in a trance and dancing around it. We had the opportunity to escape, which we took. Robocop abruptly walked over to another derelict building to the right, I remember thinking hurry up, but Robocop couldn’t run for some strange reason. This building was fully closed in and no longer used anymore. We slammed the doors shut and began to look around for any dangers. We rested there for a while.
Tunnel to The Tower
When we felt safe enough to leave the building, we came across a tunnel. It looked like corrugated iron and was full of old food wrappers and bottles, just laying there strewn across the tunnel floor. It was small but big enough for us to crawl inside the tunnel. Robocop lifted me off his back, and we dragged ourselves through the long dark tunnel. The end of the tunnel opened up into an enclosed garden. A few steps away was another building, a tower. We walked over towards the entrance and saw two people—one man sitting on a wooden dining chair and the other, a woman leaning against the wall. As we approached them, I looked over the edge of a broken part of the wall, it was a massive drop to the bottom, and I saw large groups of beings in square formations. Carefully, trying not to be noticed, I got out my round weaponised toy and threw it down the huge cliff. It took out the whole army guarding the building like a game of skittles. The man stood up from the chair and asked, 'how did you get past all of our stationed posts?’ We just stared at him. He walked over to Robocop, grabbed him, and shouted, 'Tell me.’ Robocop by the man who held a weapon at him and put a noose around his neck. Fearing for our lives, I looked for a way to escape, and my new toy had gone too far and couldn’t find its way back to me. On the building itself was a small square opening. I peered down to see men in long black capes with shiny black helmets, again kind of like they were something out of a Star Wars movie. It was too far to jump. We would fall and break into tiny pieces. But it was too late, and the man hurled Robocop over the edge of the broken wall. I panicked; there’s no way I could save him now.
Suddenly, I was distracted when I heard a crackling sound over by the tunnel entrance. I looked over and saw a colourful plastic-looking caterpillar, and it was almost as though something was moving inside it. The girl who wanted no part in this killing of Robocop grabbed my arm. Startled, I leapt backwards to hear her saying,’ Let’s go, let’s get out of here.’ We both headed towards the tunnel. I remembered how frightened I was of enclosed spaces, and it suddenly looked much smaller than before. The rubble was now blocking the entrance. We fought to get through the trash and entered the tunnel.
T-Rex
We must have taken a wrong turn somewhere in the tunnel because when we reached the other end, we had entered into a small room with lifts that were not working. The only way out was to go through the automated door that opened with sensors. I looked through the automatic doors. That’s when I noticed the T-Rex in a rectangle-shaped garden through the large glass windows. Somehow they were working, I got too close, and they opened. Quietly I went into the hallway, trying to get to the other doors ahead. I was crouching down, trying to be as small as I could. But by this time, it was too late. The doors were way too noisy for that and alerted the T-Rex. It came out of the garden through another set of automated doors. As I turned to escape, its fierce jaws grabbed me. I was doomed, or at least I thought.
Check Point
The next minute I was back at the building where Robocop had just died. Almost as though it was a saving point of the game. I was still on Robocop’s back. To the right, a lift appeared, just a square floor, no doors. As we entered, a man greeted us, and I noticed he had daggers for feet—a golden patterned handle with a blade leading off it. The feet were both turned outwards so he wouldn’t cut us. He smiled and greeted us. Then I woke up from the dream.
Ending Thoughts
It looks like the dream was about to get friendly, but for some reason, it ended abruptly. Maybe I was disturbed by a sound or the temperature, too hot or too cold. I would like to have gone straight back into this dream, it was scary at times, but the dream didn’t faze me. I was more curious. What happened to the virtual world? Why was some movie characters there? What about the man with the sword feet? How weird. Where did all these details and characters get into my head? How come the mind is so much more creative when we sleep or is it just me? I doubt that very much, but I’m not this creative in the real world. Do you ever have vivid dreams that you can remember every detail? Any other questions are welcomed or your experiences?
Until next time
Sweet dreams
