Summary:Ekko has never been so happy! His former childhood best friend is back in his life and they finally reunited! Jinx is happy too! She has something to show her appreciation to him.
Authors Note: Big thanks to my friend @a-hams-art for beta-reading! Go check out their art! It's fucking adorable and amazing!🥺💖
Ekko was in his private study; his desk sat behind a window, and the afternoon sunlight shone in the room.
He could hear the usual commotion of his base: People chatting, and kids were laughing as they played together. Others were hollering as they rode their hoverboards.
Him and his group were going to be headed out to the markets today.
He was writing down supplies everyone needed when the door swung open and banged against the wall.
"Hey-o, Ekko!" Jinx exclaimed.
Ekko flinched and accidentally scribbled on the list, "Jinx! Why didn't you knock?"
She shrugged, "Because I didn't want to." She kicked the door closed.
"You're supposed to knock before you enter."He chided lightly.
She scoffed, "You may be the leader of The Firelights but you don't tell me what to do."
Ekko rolled his eyes while shaking his head, "What did you come in here for, anyway?"
"To annoy and bother."
Ekko huffed, "You definitely got those two parts down."
She giggled happily. "Thanks. I'll make sure to come by more often.” She smirked.
Ekko rolled his eyes again with a small smile.
It's been nearly a week since Jinx joined the Firelight Base.
His announcement to keep her in their base camp was met with resounding pushback.
His best friend, Scar, was hesitant to vote for her to stay but he eventually-maybe begrudgingly- agreed.
Ultimately, they trusted their leader. If anything did happen, they knew he and Scar wouldn't hesitate to protect their community.
He didn't miss the glares Scar gave the woman whenever he spotted her; Jinx would return the look with just as much malice.
Most of his people kept their distance away from her. He understood their wariness and expected it.
To Heimerdinger's credit, he was polite to her when she arrived. He would try to start a friendly conversation with her but his efforts were met with blank stares.
Even if nobody wanted to involve themselves with her, he wanted her. He was happy to finally be able to reunite with his childhood friend.
He noticed that she was holding two sheets of paper. "What you got there?"
She followed to where his gaze was, and her eyes momentarily widened. "Oh! It's-" She held the papers behind her.
She cleared her throat, "I need to ask you something first before I do."
"Okay," He shrugged nonchalantly. "What is it?"
"You said you would be happy that I stayed," She stroked her braid. "And you like me for me. Right?"
"Of course, you're my friend." He answered.
She raised an eyebrow, she slightly narrowed her eyes at him, "And you still wanna be my friend?"
"Of course, I do. I'll always be."He assured.
She dimly nodded with a small smile. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I made you something," she said softly.
A smile peeked from his mouth, "Really?"
"Yeah, you know. Since we're friends now or whatever." She muttered, she placed the two sheets on his desk.
It was a crayon drawing. The tree in their base stood in the background and Firelights surrounded the base in the night.
Ekko was drawn as a stick figure. He was on his hoverboard and holding his stopwatch with his signature smug grin.
What else could he do but show her a wide grin? She made something just for him and it happened to be a cute little drawing of himself.
"This is great, I really like it! Thank you!" He chirped.
Jinx hummed quietly, "It's a picture of you. I knew you would." She smiled weakly in return.
His features contorted into a frown and his eyebrows furrowed.
Something didn't feel right.
Why is she acting so sullen?
He moved the drawing behind the second sheet of paper.
Dead enforcers and Sevika lay in a pool of their blood. They all had Xs drawn over their eyes. Their heads were bashed in,had crooked necks, or were filled with bullet holes.
The drawing that caught his attention the most was Caitlyn's dead body lying in front of them.
There was blood splattered across them.
Jinx and Ekko smiling and high-fiving each other with Pow-Pow strapped to her chest and Ekko holding his bloody bat.
Horns were sticking out from Caitlyn's head, fangs and a forked tongue stuck out of her mouth. Jinx was holding her hair, it was raised proudly like a trophy she won.
He didn't care about the enforcers of Sevika being depicted in the pile of corpses. It was Caitlyn that surprised him.
He didn't know her that well. She was a Piltie and an Enforcer.
Of course, she was stupid to believe that Enforcers were benevolent beings that uphold the law and treated everyone fairly.
They already harassed or killed Zaunites. The money Silco paid them simply gave them more incentive to do so.
But she seemed nice enough and she was Vi's friend. He wouldn't have wanted her killed.
A chill had settled into the room. The hairs on his neck raised and goosebumps appeared on his arms.
She was sitting on top of his desk. Her searing pink eyes observed his, gauging and calculating, she was cornering him without even needing to touch him.
She tilted her head to the side. She spoke to him low and slowly, "I thought you would like it,"
She placed her boots on the side of his armrest and the wheels on his chair brought him closer to her.
"Or, you can give me that one," She held out her hand for the second drawing. "That's your choice, really."
In other circumstances, he would have found this amusing. But Jinx was being very strange.
There were no hints of playfulness, her cold stare was dead set on him. She was being entirely serious.
What the hell?
This is ridiculous. She wants me to make a decision. Over drawings of all things.
So, I have to choose. One or the other.
Which one did I like more?
Which one do I favor?
Recognition flashed in his eyes.
Where should she sit?
He re-examined the drawings.
'-JINX' was written in the bottom corner of the second drawing.
'Powder' was written in the same place on the other one.
She's really doing this.This is a test.
Her expression had remained neutral throughout the ordeal but her eye and mouth twitched. Her pink eyes blazed as an indication of her growing anger.
Ekko was the one to unleash this prolonged silence. It was ripping her flesh with its claws and teeth yet he was doing nothing about it.
It shouldn't have to take this long. If he meant what he said then the decision should have been obvious.
"Well," She snarled. "What's it going to be,sunny?" She flicked his forehead as hard as she can.
Ekko clenched his jaw and shot her a glare.
She thought she was intimidating him but really? He already knew his answer. He was trying to come up with the right way to phrase his words.
He momentarily closed his eyes and breathed evenly to temper his irritation before he talked.
He didn't want to lose her again. He couldn't.
He couldn't bare having her return only for him to fuck everything up with her.
He was sure that would have made him snapped; punching a wall until his knuckles were bloody and broken and screaming until he lost his voice.
He was fucking sick and tired of repeatedly failing her.
He regained his patience and quickly licked his lips.
"So you think that I have a favorite? That I'm just going to throw it away?" He was able to speak to her calmly. "But honestly? They're both amazing and unique. I love both."
The sincerity and conviction in his voice rattled her entire body.
What did he say? He didn't just- no. He did though. I heard him. He said it.
"You-" She swallowed an enormous lump in her throat. "You seriously mean that?" She asked softly.
He nodded firmly, "You thought about me and took time and effort to make me something. I really appreciate it. One isn't better than the other, you know?
Sure, they're different but they were made by the same person. And I happen to like that person very much. " His smile was genuinely happy.
"But there's one thing you did wrong."
Her hold on his chair slackened with her shoulders easing from their tension. "And what's that?"
He grabbed his pen and made a quick correction. He held it up to show her.
She gingerly took the drawing and stared in disbelief at the bottom corner. He crossed out Powder and had written Jinx instead.
She met Ekko's kind and gentle smile when she looked at him. "It's Jinx. J-I-N-X."
He stood up. His warm gaze fixed on her. He placed his hand on top of her head and then cradled the back of it.
The soft rays of sunlight through the window seemed to glow brightly around him. The dust particles in the air looked like glitter at that moment.
It was nearly angelic. All Jinx could do was marvel in awe at the sight she was beholding.
The words he wanted to directly say were transferred into how tenderly he held her.
He used to just want Powder back.
That night on the bridge, he finally realized that Jinx was Powder. Powder was Jinx. They were both one in the same.
It was sad that she hated her old self so much that she disassociated with being Powder. She was one of his best friends and they had so much fun together.
But he didn't bring her to the Firelight base in hopes of changing or fixing her.
He just missed her. He'll take the good and the bad all in stride. He wanted every last bit of her. They had all the time in the world to create new memories together.
His words put a strange spell on her that left her transfixed in a trance. Her hands dangled uselessly at her sides as she processed everything.
She didn't know how she was able to breathe with the number of Cupid's arrows Ekko impaled into her heart.
Her eyes sparkled with the emotion she didn't dare to speak of aloud.
He reignited a fuse in her. It electrocuted her like being struck by lightning. She was surprised she didn't die from her injuries.
She felt it. She felt it so fucking much.
After they finished, she was going to write his name in her diary and write so many Xs and Os and hearts.
Love.
That's a strong word.
What's he trying to say to me?
Does that mean something? Should I say something back? What would I even say?
Love.
He says he loves both.
Did he just say he-
She minutely shook her head and rapidly blinked out of her stupor.
She needed to get in touch with reality again. She was eighteen. She knew better than to believe such childish things.
No. Don't be fucking stupid. Ekko is just a genuinely good guy.
You're thinking too deeply about this. Gods, you're so desperate. It's disgusting how pathetic you are.
He's not talking about you, you fucking idiot. He's talking about the drawings.
Tears pooled in her eyes and slid down her face.
She was incredibly selfish.
She knew her presence will inevitably cause him more problems yet she came back to him to stay.
But she missed him. And he told her he missed her too.
She wanted him more than anything. She wanted to be happy with him.
He still liked her.
He valued her as his friend who still cared for her after everything she's done. But that was good enough for her.
She threw her arms around him and clutched him tightly. He leaned into the hug, his strength matching hers.
Jinx leaned forward, her hand rubbing his back. His thumb stroked the back of her hair.
Even though I'm not worthy of his love, Ekko is still perfect. He is absolutely and utterly perfect.
If hugs healed, she’d clasped onto him until their bodies withered and their rotting corpses remained.
He was too good for her. She'll never be good enough for him.
She'll only taint him. She'll ruin this one good thing just like everything else in her life.

The atmosphere for tonight seems fitting for what’s about to happen. Lightning strikes the air while thick, black clouds block the moonlight from showing through. It was also rapidly cooling down with winter approaching, so there was a deep chill out on the water. You knew that Janna was angry from what she heard, and it seems like even she was joining the mission. Huge waves were hitting the island Stillwater was on and you pitied any ships out on the water. They’d be begging for Janna’s mercy.
“That’s the target.” Heather puts a hand on her hip, “That stupid old rock.”
“You ready to have some real fun, Magpie?” You smirk underneath your mask, nudging her, “With no more shimmer refineries and Silco goons to beat up, you must be bored.”
“Definitely.” Heather giggles, “I know everyone else is feeling the same way. Being able to get back into the action is exciting.” She motions to the group waiting for Ekko’s cue. They’re all talking and moving around with jitters. The Firelights and Furies were teaming up to do this takedown properly since your brother was very good with time. He demanded to come with you, and you had planned on dragging him along anyway. But, it was nice to have him with you on his own. Your friends in the Firelights all requested to join, and who were you to tell them no?
“Fishbones can’t wait to make that building go BOOM!” Jinx laughs, skipping over to you, “I definitely feel the same way! What about you, My Lady?” She throws her arms around you.
“I can’t wait to watch it crumble into the sea.” You smile darkly.
“I’m feeling good about this. We’ve got twenty minutes before the next ship is due to pass the building.” Ekko looks up from his watch, “It’s time to start.” The group's energy immediately sparks up, excited muttering filling the air as you all approach the edge of the Sun Gate. This was the first official act to prepare for the war. People who’ve been locked up unjustly will be getting their freedom and the Hold will be no more.
“Would you like to do the honors, Owl?” You ask your brother.
“Lady Janna, please bring in the fog so we may approach undercover.” Ekko requests. A harsh wind kicks up as a thick fog glides in over the water. Your visibility of the place disappears as the fog becomes as thick as The Gray. No Enforcers on patrol will be able to see you coming. You snap your fingers and a little blue light appears in front of everyone. You had already told them about the plan, but you’ll remind them on the way in. That way everyone has it fresh in their minds.
“Five seconds.” Ekko holds his stopwatch, “Four, three, two, one. GO!” You launch yourself off the edge of the Gate, picking up momentum from the fall, before the chemtech kicks in. You rocket forward into the fog, losing visibility except for the lights that everyone is following. You could feel your anger bubbling beneath your skin ready to burst forth, and the loud screeching of the wings felt like it was expressing your feelings for you. The cry of death Jinx so lovingly calls it.
“Remember, there are forty floors. Take control of the alarm room. Then, we’ll move through the building and kill every Enforcer in sight. Once the people are evacuated from your floor, plant the explosives and continue forward. As long as you keep the time in mind, you should be done in time.” You explain the plan once more, getting confirmation calls back.
“It’s night so all of the inmates are sleeping in their cells.” Heather continues, “Kill the ones that need to be killed first, then wake the others. You must give the all-clear for your floors.”
“I’ll be blowing that baby sky-high once I’m given the all-clear! So, you better make sure your butts are out of there by the end of the twenty minutes if you don’t want to end up in pieces!” Jinx laughs. You see the building coming into view so you straighten up, the wings folding in before your feet hit the ground and you duck into a roll. You spring up onto your feet and you’re sprinting to the large doors with Sevika and Jinx in front of you. They smirk at each other, Jinx’s eyes flashing pink as they whip her Chompers out and yank the pins out with their teeth. ‘The two of them have been bonding very well.’ You think in amusement. The chompers go flying and you signal a warning for the impending explosions, but don’t stop running. Multicolored smoke fills the air as the doors are blown off their hinges, not built to withstand the corrosive chemicals Jinx used in these bombs.
Surprised exclamations come from inside and you use the smoke screen to your advantage. An unsuspecting Enforcer gets his throat sliced with your fans as you dash past him. The others would be taking care of the ones on this level so you didn’t bother going out of your way to take any down. If they were on the way to your destination, then you gleefully sliced into them. Your personal target is the Warden, a man Vi and Caitlyn had told you about when they first arrived at the Grotto. You whistle to get Jinx’s attention and she follows you down the hall to the Warden’s sleeping quarters. More Enforcers are sliced or shot to death, except for the one Jinx stuck a Chomper on. The two of you pause outside his door, listening to see if the commotion had woken him up. The sound of snoring is the only thing you hear and you motion to the door with your head. Jinx smirks, taking a few steps back before lifting her leg and kicking the door in.
“What the fuck?!” The Warden shouts in alarm, scrambling out of his bed in a deliriously tired state.
“Surprise!” You hear Jinx cackle as she rushes toward him with a bundle of rope in her hands. You observe the room as the Warden fights to get Jinx away from him. A pile of letters sits on the desk and you take the time to go through them, raising an eyebrow at some of the illegal correspondence. ‘Is this stuff you can use against Piltover?’ Umbra questions curiously. ‘It should be. Only the Warden has access to this room. This would be where he’d hide the things he doesn’t want anyone to see.’ You drop those letters into a rift and something in the corner of your eyes catches your attention. The silver figure at the top had been glinting in the light coming in from the hallway. ‘This is his staff.’ You casually pick it up, rolling it in your hand and noting that the top of it matches some old marks on Vi’s body. A growl leaves your lips and you whirl around to face the Warden.
“Hello, Warden.” You take slow, measured steps toward him, “A lovely night, isn’t it? The perfect night to blow up a building.” Jinx had tied him up quite skillfully, making sure he couldn’t move any part but his head. You were itching to drive your fans into his stomach but you couldn’t. He wasn’t going to die by your hands.
“Who are you?! How’d you get in here?!” He shouts, struggling in his restraints, “Take off those stupid masks!”
“We’re no one special.” You shrug, resting the end of the staff against his chest, “Well, actually… we’re the nightmares that will torture you for the rest of your short life. You see, we’re here on behalf of a friend. You’ve made a very bad decision, Warden. We’d like to have a chat with you.” You tap the staff against his chest, taking a step back and handing it to Jinx. She had begged to be involved in this. You had said no at first, too blinded by your rage to realize that it would only make sense for her to do it. That changed after you calmed down and you decided to give her the first go.
“Don’t cha worry, this’ll only hurt ya a lot, toots!” Jinx chirps darkly, letting go of the death grip she had on her mind, “This is for my sister!” She snarls and brings the metal end of the staff down on him. You lean against the wall and watch as Jinx hits him. The occasional call from the others comes in through the comms and you keep track of the progress. It seems like everyone is doing really well and you’re not needed for any assistance. Five minutes pass before you call Jinx, and she has to force herself to stop. Her hands tremble with the staff clutched so tightly you’re surprised it hasn’t snapped.
“Can I cut in, Crow?” You hold your hand out for the staff and she gives it to you after a pause.
“Be my guest.” Jinx hums, “He’s still conscious.” You stare at him, hearing Vi's words repeat over and over in your head. You were going to make sure it hurt him to even breathe. With an angry yell, you slam it into his ribs. Your mind went hazy as you repeatedly hit him, knowing that he had caused your love so much pain. Umbra had to warn you to stop right as Jinx grabbed your wrist. The Warden was barely conscious at this point, face swollen and bloody, as you angrily took ragged breaths.
“Ten-minute warning!” Ekko’s voice sounds, “You should be starting your final floor now!”
“He deserves what’s coming to him.” Jinx hisses, “Letting him live is not a mercy.” You nod in agreement, too upset to say anything as the two of you grab him and push him into a rift. You knew that she wanted to kill him as much as you did, but that would allow him to get away with what he’s done. And, as angry as you were, neither of you could allow that.
“Every second of it.” You agree, finally finding your voice, “I’m going to start rigging the floor. You’ve got this, Crow?” You put a hand on her shoulder.
“I’d rather do this alone.” She looks at you, cracking her knuckles, “I want to get artistic with it.”
“Have fun.” You chuckle, watching her step into the rift, “See ya in ten for the grand finale!” You call right before it closes. You hum to yourself trying to ease the tumultuous mix of anger and glee that was in you. You carefully place the bombs in place, making sure to stick them in the weak points of the structure. Chrissy had given you a copy of the blueprints for Stillwater Hold a week ago. Thanks to Zara breaking it down and explaining it properly, everyone knows where all of the support beams are for each floor. This place was going to crumble like a piece of wet paper and you were looking forward to it.
Time passed a lot faster than you thought it would and soon the official all-clear came through. You knew they would be moving away from the building so you continued where you were going. Instead of using a rift, you took the elevator down, watching as the counter rolled up to forty. You take a deep breath as the gate opens and you walk down the hallway, taking in the line painted on the floor. You pause in front of the last cell and hold your hand out, the metal of the bars warps and bends, ripping open to give you a view of the inside.
“Solitary?” You pause in the middle of braiding her hair.
“Yeah. The cell is on the bottom floor. Forty. I was in there more than my original cell, so it ended up being my assigned place in solitary. They even carved my inmate number into the bars.” Vi chuckles, leaning her head back to look up at you, “One of the walls has a dent in it because I was always punching it. There are doodles in the concrete after that one time I managed to sneak a pen down there… then, there are the bloodstains…” She sighs.
Your hands tremble as your firelight illuminates the cell, showing everything Vi mentioned to you. You swallow hard, crouching down at a large bloodstain in the cement, and run your fingertips over it. A sharp gasp leaves your lips as a wave of pain and grief washes over you. The sound of Vi’s scream rattles in your ears and you fall over in shock. You grit your teeth and your fists clench so tightly that you think you might break your fingers. You stand up and place the last of your bombs right in the middle of the room.
‘The rage you’re feeling right now would be enough to ignite these bombs.’ Umbra says dryly. You chuckle, feeling anything but amused as you step out of the cell and straight into a rift. She was right. All you can feel right now is rage. You knew what Vi was talking about was horrible, but to see it? To see the cell that she spent the majority of the last six years in? To feel the emotions stuck to the room like a bad odor. ‘I’m going to burn Piltover to the ground.’ You growl. You drop through the sky, seeing the glow of the other wings hanging around a safe distance from Stillwater. Your wings activate, slowly descending until you’re in line with the others and you greet them.
“My surveillance is done.” You say to Jinx who does a little dance.
“Alright, everyone! You have ten seconds!” Jinx shouts, slamming her hand down on a glowing button, “Get ready for the fireworks!” She throws her arms up. Not even a second later, there’s a loud boom and the building gets blown apart. You all shout in joy as more explosions sound and then the fireworks go off in the sky to signify the war starting. Various colors of smoke fill the air and you watch as Stillwater Hold crumbles into the ground.
“Piltover will no longer be able to imprison our people.” Sevika says and even though her voice modifier makes her sound emotionless, you all knew how liberating this felt. Zaun was able to handle its own. Always has been. The fact that Piltover didn’t allow that and shoehorned everyone into Stillwater Prison regardless of a petty crime or not was disgusting. With the Dredge being cleared through, there’d be more than enough space for any new residents.
“I used to wish I could use my winds to knock it down. I couldn’t. Not with Zaunites inside.” Janna’s voice sounds out around you, “Thank you for freeing our people from Piltover’s grasp. I can now breathe a little easier.”
“This is only the beginning.” You say, watching the smoke mix in a beautiful display of anarchy, “We’re going to do what they did to us. Put them in a hole they can’t get out of without our help.”
Tumblr media
The current weather is perfectly describing the way Vi is feeling. A harsh wind is blowing, whistling through the breezeway of the Sun Gate, and complimenting the crashing waves. Vi had seated herself on the railing with her back to the support and let her legs dangle over each side as she watched the water. Cassandra had her sit down yesterday and create a schedule that included etiquette lessons, her Enforcer duties, and meetings with the Council. Vi hadn’t said much, not wanting her mouth to get her in trouble. Then she’d be stuck with more etiquette lessons and it would've been more trouble than it was worth. After that, Vi went up to her room and thought through everything that happened with Y/n. There was something that was bothering her, but she couldn’t place her finger on it. She was angry and upset, but it didn’t feel like it was entirely her emotions.
“Hey, Vi!” Kevin comes over, waving enthusiastically, “I didn’t expect to see you out here this late at night! Are you in the doghouse with the Sheriff?” She frowns slightly, not really in the mood to talk but the kid was always nice to her despite her prickly demeanor. He liked to hang around her when he knew she was on duty, and she never questioned why.
“No, I came out here on my own. I find it easier to think during this time, and I didn’t want to go to sleep.” Vi shrugs, “So, here I am.”
“You know, that’s why I prefer the night shift. Nothing really happens at night, and it’s just a time I can enjoy the relatively quiet evening.” He leans against the support across from her, “The other Enforcers like that they can just goof around with each other.”
“Yeah. The past few nights I’ve been out here, I’ve overheard them cracking jokes and playing some stupid game.” Vi glances down the breezeway, seeing vacant spots where the others are supposed to be, “You all seem content.” Kevin lets out a heavy sigh that catches Vi’s attention. The guy was always very cheerful around her. It was unusual to hear him be so upset.
“Sometimes I think being an Enforcer is too easy for what we’re supposed to be doing.” He raps his knuckles against the railing, clearly agitated. ‘I guess I’m not the only one in a contemplative mood.’ Vi observes him as he fidgets. The Enforcers were too relaxed around her since she was supposed to be in Caitlyn’s pocket. She found it interesting, considering the fact that a vast majority of people in Zaun are terrified of her. ‘Piltovens don’t know when they’re in danger, do they?’
“And what’s that?” Vi spits, glaring out at the distant figure of Stillwater Hold in the distance. She wished that building would disappear. Every time she was forced to patrol this gate, it taunted her about all of her failures. The marks on her body from that place could fade, but the painful memories wouldn’t.
“Maintaining the order and safety of the people, enforcing the laws, and preventing, detecting, and investigating criminal activities.” Comes his robotic answer, “But… there’s been nothing since I joined. You’d think there’d be issues in the night but there’s nothing.”
“You want there to be conflict?” Vi narrows her eyes at him.
“No, but it’s so annoying seeing the others act like it’s not even a job. They do whatever they want and don’t even patrol or do their other assignments. I just wish there was something that made them realize it’s not some cushy free time.”
“Careful what you wish for.” Vi snorts, watching as thick fog rolls in and hides Stillwater from her vision, “You never know if that one is the one to come true.” A loud, eerie screeching noise fills the air that makes Vi’s adrenaline spike. She snaps into awareness, looking around her for the source of the sound but she can’t see anything. ‘The fog is too thick. All I can see is the damned light coming from the Hold.’ She scoffs but her body doesn’t relax. There could be a threat out here and without being able to see it makes her extremely uncomfortable.
“What the fuck was that?!” Kevin shouts and Vi shushes him. She listens intently, trying to find out if she can hear something else or if that noise repeats itself. The crashing of the waves and occasional lightning strike is all her ears can pick up. ‘That’s unsettling.’ Vi frowns. ‘I haven’t heard anything like that before. Maybe it’s a bird call?’
“Whatever it was, it’s gone now.” Vi shrugs, “So, you were complaining?”
“I’m not complaining. I’m just frustrated.” Kevin huffs, turning to look at her, “Besides, what made you join the Enforcers? Someone mentioned you’re supposed to be helping with the Jinx problem, but you’re never with the squads that go into Zaun.” Vi bites her tongue to keep herself from snapping at him. ‘He doesn’t know that he’s talking about my sister. Relax, Vi. Don’t let your temper get the better of you.’ She takes a deep breath and looks back out to the fog.
“Sorry, kid. That’s something way above your rank.” Vi snorts at the irony of her words, “But if you must know, I’m here to protect someone. Not for any heroic shit or whatnot.”
“From Jinx?” Kevin presses.
“Keep asking questions and we’ll find out how long it takes before you hit the water.” Vi says dully and Kevin’s jaw drops. They fall into silence for a while and Vi didn’t care that he was there as long as he was quiet. Her mind wanders to the conversation she had with Tobias in the evening. He made it a point to bring her a cup of coffee when he didn’t see her in the library. The first time he did it, he asked that she keep it a secret because he wasn’t supposed to be drinking coffee. It gave him too much energy. It has slowly become something she looked forward to, especially when she found out that his favorite brand was her mother’s favorite. Vi had cried when she realized it, the loss of her mother stinging harder now that she needed a nurturing hand. Yesterday evening, he told her how he had come to appreciate her presence. It made him feel less lonely, and he had earnestly told her that her sister was more than welcome to stay with them. Vi didn’t know how to take it. He had no clue who he was inviting over, but his words were genuine. That was an appalling thing to Vi. Tobias was so kind and Cassandra was… not. She couldn’t wrap her head around it.
An explosion sounds, jolting Vi out of her thoughts and she nearly falls onto the breezeway with how fast she jumps up onto the railing. The fog had been thinned out by whatever exploded and was rapidly fading away as more explosions went off. They were clearly at a distance from how muted it was, but the fact that she can hear it meant it was a big one. It wasn’t long before the fog had given away to show her a view of the bay and Stillwater Hold. Or, where Stillwater used to be. The bright light that used to be there was gone and although it was nighttime, she was supposed to be able to see the building clearly from the Sun Gate. It wasn’t there.
“HOLY SHIT! SOUND THE ALARM!” Kevin screams and Vi can hear him running to the others, “STILLWATER HAS BEEN BLOWN UP! GUYS! GUYS!”
Vi is frozen where she is. Multicolored smoke rises into the night sky in a mixture of yellow, green, pink, and blue. It was so vibrant it was hard to miss, especially as fireworks burst in a silent display. ‘The prison is… gone.’ She thinks in disbelief. The colored smoke could only point to the one person she knew that used it. ‘Powder… What have you… Why would you…?’ Vi’s feet carry her down and away from the railing in her haze. She starts running, sprinting down the breezeway, down the stairs, and towards the launch point that was used for Stillwater. Her gaze kept leading back to the smoke in the sky whenever she could see it. It was like a message from her sister. But why?
Vi stops suddenly when she reaches the launch point. She can clearly see the smoke in the distance, undeniable proof that it’s coming from Stillwater. But, on the end of the dock is a sight she never expected to see. A group of Enforcers is standing there in shock as they gaze up at the Warden of Stillwater, tied up and dangling from some poles. She slowly moves closer, taking note of the familiar oil pastel doodles that depict the man as a monster. Words were written all around, calling out the man as corrupt and an abuser of power. Vi can feel too many emotions flood her body, forcing her to sink her nails into the palm of her hand to ground herself. Seeing the man who abused her like this, who allowed others to beat her until she was unconscious… she was completely and utterly gleeful about it.
She chuckles as she stops at the front of the crowd, her lips twisting into a feral smirk. A flash of white in the corner of her eye has her turning to see a piece of paper falling toward her. She almost wrote it off as trash before she remembered that it’s not common in Piltover. Vi catches it and sees her Hellhound symbol on the front which prompts her to open it. ‘To my slug-eating crab, I hope you like this gift!’ Her heart constricts in her chest and she hurriedly stuffs it into her pocket before anyone notices. ‘I’ll finish reading this when I get somewhere private.’
“Yeah, I’ll leave this one to you guys…” Vi laughs, backing away from her little sister’s masterpiece, “That’s some amazing rigging work though. So, good luck getting him down!” She waves and starts walking back up the dock. None of them even acknowledge her, too appalled by the sight to do more than stare. Vi can hear shouting and the pounding of boots as more Enforcers rush this way. ‘Did she… blow up Stillwater for… me?’ Vi thinks in surprise, glancing at the pocket the note was shoved into. ‘There’s only one way to find out.’
“Vi!” Caitlyn’s voice makes her stop in her tracks. Vi sighs heavily, not wanting Caitlyn to ruin the joyous mood she’s in, before plastering a smile on her face. She whirls around to see Caitlyn marching over to her with a sight frown on her face. The normally put-together woman was hurriedly tying her hair up, most likely woken up by the news. Vi was impressed with how quickly she made it down here, considering she’d have to run all the way from her mansion.
“Cupcake!” Vi says cheerfully, “What can I do for you?” Caitlyn grabs Vi by her bicep and yanks her onto a secluded area of the docks.
“If you wanted to kiss me in private, you could have just asked.” Vi teases her, making Caitlyn quickly let her arm go.
“We need to chat.” Caitlyn says sternly, crossing her hands over her chest. Vi’s hand twitches slightly before an amused smile flicks onto her face. That was another word that had a different meaning in Zaun than in Piltover.
“You don’t have the hands for stabbing.” Vi pats her shoulder in fake sympathy.
“...What?” Caitlyn’s voice goes up in pitch as her face twists in confusion.
“No worries, I won’t get in your way.” Vi puts her hands up in surrender and slowly backs away, “I’ll see you when the boats get here, Cupcake!” She hurriedly walks away as Caitlyn shouts out her name. By this point, she should understand Vi’s tactics to get away from her, but it continued to work every time. ‘Sorry, Cait, but I have a note from my sister to read before we go to see the damage done. Normally I wouldn’t want to go back there, but… Powder did this.’ Vi finds a quiet area and gets comfortable, tugging the note from her pocket. Her Hellhound symbol was something she hadn’t seen in a long time. The sight of the demon dog made something in her ache.
To my slug-eating crab, I hope you like this gift! We weren’t going to do it so soon, but you know how convincing anger can be! Don’t worry, no innocent people were harmed in the explosion. But, are you proud of me?! It’s my biggest BOOM, yet! Hahaha! This is my way of telling you that… no monster is going to get you as long as I’m here. That’s my job! With Love, Your Slug Monster!
Vi flinches when a tear hits the paper. She hurriedly wipes her tears away, but more start falling as she does. The few times she’s seen her sister since being released from Stillwater Hold have been… not so great. To see that Powder still cares about her after everything that has happened is some good news she desperately needed.
Tumblr media
The sound of laughter and happy chatter greets you and your team as you approach the Temple. A group of children is playing with a bouncy ball out front while some acolytes watch them and talk. After blowing up Stillwater Hold, your group broke apart and got to work. Half went back to Zaun to talk with the people freed from the Hold and the others waited for the ships to come in. You had returned to Zaun and addressed the people you freed. You were direct about why they had been released but told them that they had a choice. They could remain in Zaun and prepare for war or they could leave for another country. They all chose to stay. Fue had come back in high spirits, rambling about how fun the raids were. It was challenging yet fun to sneak around the Enforcers out on the water. Landon had remained as a lookout - making you feel nostalgic about that role - while everyone else rushed the ships. The haul this time around was much greater than the last and everyone was feeling very proud of it.
“Lady Hexxit! Ekko!” One of the acolytes grins widely when she sees you, “Welcome to the Temple!” The children gasp when they realize who you are and excitedly run over to greet you. You laugh, place your box on the ground, and crouch down to hug the children. They zip around, giving hugs to everyone and asking what you’ve brought them this time. It warmed your heart to hear them cheer when Ekko said it was more food and clothes.
“Good morning.” You greet the acolytes as the children run back to their games, “We’re here to drop off some gifts. Is the Priestess in today?”
“Yes, she’s in the middle of a blessing so please be respectful if you’d like to go in during this time.” Another acolyte responds, “Lady Janna has granted us her presence as well.”
“We will be respectful, as always. Thank you, ladies.” You nod your head and they bow, opening the doors with welcoming smiles. You’re immediately greeted by another acolyte who leads your group through the temple. Although this wasn’t your first time coming through, this was just how they treated their guests. No guest was to feel unwelcomed as long as they weren’t there to cause harm. You’re being led past the blessing chamber when you pause by the door. Laying across an altar table is a teenager no older than sixteen, dozens of black candles surrounding him as the Priestess waves her staff over him. Off to the side is Janna, her staff clenched in her hand as a frown darkens her face.
“He has Lung Blight.” The acolyte says softly, “He’s an orphan we’ve been looking after. Parents died of the same sickness recently. Lady Janna tries to guide the air through his lungs, but they are weak and failing him.”
“Just like Ty.” Heather mutters. You glance behind you to see everyone gazing into the chamber with sad expressions. People were still dying, and although you were making progress on cleaning the air, it felt like it was going too slow.
“He doesn’t have long left, I’m afraid. This blessing is for his safe passage into the afterlife.” The acolyte sighs, shaking his head, “It never gets easy.”
“Could you save him?” Jinx steps forward, nudging you, “You brought me back to life. Maybe you can… heal his lungs?” She questions.
“I-I don’t know. I don’t even know how I brought you back, flower. I don’t know if I can heal him.” You frown and turn back to the sight. You gasp softly when Janna suddenly appears in front of you, grabbing your wrist with a pleading gaze.
“Please, my sweet breeze. Please, try to save him. I cannot watch another one of my people die.” Janna begs you, her eyes shining with unshed tears.
“Lady Janna, I-”
“I shall assist you with my magic. Please. I witnessed you bring Jinx back to life. I believe that you can do this.” Janna says passionately, making your heart clench.
“Okay. I’ll give it a try.” You nod. With those words, Sevika takes your box and Janna leads you into the chamber. The Priestess looks up, giving you a curious look and you give her a soft smile. You can hear the boy’s raspy breathing as you get closer and it makes your heart clench with sadness. The memories of Ty flash into your mind.
“Hello there.” You greet him, his eyes widening when he sees you, “I may be able to help you breathe again, but I will only attempt to do so with your permission.”
“H-How- can you- do- that?” He struggles to speak.
“I have magic.” You whisper, letting a flame flicker to life at your fingertips, “Do you wish to have a chance at life once more? I can’t guarantee you won’t get sick again, but-”
“Yes!” He gasps out, grabbing your hand, “Pl- ease!” You squeeze his hand and nod.
“You don’t mind, Priestess?” You double-check with her.
“Please.” She motions to the teenager, “Do whatever you can.” Janna walks around to the other side of the altar and grabs your other hand. There’s a quiet understanding between the two of you as she places her hand on his chest.
“Close your eyes and do your best to relax.” You instruct him. He stares at you for a moment before closing his eyes and allowing his body to relax. You take a deep breath and allow your eyes to slip shut as well. ‘Dig deep, Y/n. You’ve got this. You can do this. Whatever you did before… do it again.’ You feel your mind sink deeper, focusing on your heartbeat and then the feeling of their hands in yours. A cool energy washes over you from your left hand, like a refreshing breeze on a hot day. It travels through you and feeds your magic, soothing it and allowing you to focus on pushing it into the teenager. Another wave of energy flows into you, making you gasp as it burns your nerves like electricity. You’ve got this. Somewhere deep inside of you recognizes it as the Arcane. As your magic enters his body, an image of it appears in your mind and you can see that his lungs are almost dead. A stream of your magic fills his lungs and you watch in awe as it begins to heal the damage. Your eyes flutter open, the low candlelight stinging your eyes for a moment before you gaze at the boy. His chest was rising steadily with no signs of a struggle and you realize that he is asleep.
“You did it!” The Priestess gasps, her hands flying up to her mouth. Janna grins widely, appearing next to you and sweeping you into a tight hug. You can hear the others cheering in the background as your mind starts to process what you did. ‘I did it… I… did it.’ You feel tears sting your eyes as Janna puts you down. ‘Thank you for your belief in me.’ You think, hoping the Arcane heard you. You glance at your friends, catching sight of your guest nervously fidgeting in the back. ‘Right, one last thing before we start sorting through the supplies.’ You hold your hand out towards the group and beckon the man forward. His eyes widen as the group steps aside for him, revealing him to the other women in the room.
“Dad?” You hear the Priestess whisper in disbelief.
“Marigold...” The old man breathes out, walking into the chamber in awe, “Look at you… you’re- you’ve… grown.”
“Dad!” The Priestess shouts, running forward to embrace her father, “But, how are you here? Y-You were sent to Stillwater for life!” She wipes her tears away, glancing around the area at all of you. A wide grin crosses your face as the others do the same, happy to reunite the loving woman with her only parent. She shared her heartbreaking story about her father working hard to raise her on his own when she had gotten into some trouble. At the time, she wasn’t a fighter but her friends had begged her to join them as a scout in case something went wrong. They were jumped early in the morning by a group of Pilties who had thought it would be fun to rough up some Zaunites. She pleaded with them that she didn’t want to fight, but they didn’t care. Her father had saved their lives, but it ended with him being sent away to Stillwater for the crippling injuries he gave the Piltoven teenagers.
“Your friends surprised us in the middle of the night, telling us that they were freeing us and the dead Enforcers were quite convincing.” He chuckles.
“I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have snuck out that night-!”
“-Don’t apologize. I’m your father. I would do it all over again if it meant that you survived to see another day.” He shakes his head, “I’m here now, and I’d love to hear about how you got into such a prestigious position.”
“Of course!” She nods, then turns to you, “Thank you. Thank you for bringing my father home. I-I could never repay you for this.”
“How about helping us distribute more food and clothing?” You smile sweetly, “There’s suddenly more people who will need assistance.”
“Let’s get to work then.” She nods. You all leave the room while some acolytes tend to the teenager. You were still in shock that you managed to do that. Both times you’ve done magic like that you were either guided or in a very distressed state. You had thought those two times might’ve been a stroke of luck or even something you couldn’t do on your own. You even tried to redo something like that when Auvern had broken her wrist, but nothing happened. To know that you can still do it brings you some relief.
After a few hours of work, Ekko grabs you and the two of you change before heading up to Piltover. You had quietly discussed the progress on cleaning up the pollution in the Undercity and learned that they had run into a snag with the systems they were trying to create. With the two of you being so busy with other projects, there was no way you’d be able to assist with it. That’s when Zara suggested approaching Viktor and Sky once more. They hadn’t taken you up on your invitation to live at the Grotto or the Rapids, but you continuously kept in touch. You planned to go and see them in their lab today as Y/n and Ekko Pyre as a way to have free access to them… without scaring them every time.
So, you and your brother went for a stroll through Piltover. There was a bit of an issue getting into the city since Enforcers were guarding the entrance, but you got through without killing anyone. The IDs your uncle had given you proved extremely useful in that circumstance. You and Ekko tried hard not to smile when you heard people talking about the tragic explosion of Stillwater Hold. You hadn’t heard anyone mention Jinx’s name, so you assume that they were still keeping her a secret from the citizens. Their excuse for the explosion at the Councilor’s Building was that an experimental device had gone wrong. You found it ridiculous that the people accepted that, but you had to give credit for the quick thinking. It wasn’t hard to find the location of Jayce and Viktor’s shared lab. Their lab was in the heart of the city, so you picked up some fruit smoothies - then had to fight your brother over getting to drink your OWN - and headed inside.
“Good afternoon!” You’re greeted by Sky whose eyes widen when she looks up from her desk, “Oh! Y/n, Ekko, you’re here!” She gets up from the desk and rushes over to hug you.
“Hey, Sky!” Ekko chuckles, “We’ve brought food and drinks for our hardworking friends.” He lifts the bag which has sandwiches from Molina's, the butcher cafe in Zaun that you knew they loved.
“Thank you.” Sky smiles, accepting the two drinks from you, “Vik’s in his lab, so I can take you there.” She leads you down the hall and into an elevator.
“How are the two of you?” You playfully nudge her, “Any new relationship information we should know?”
“Not yet.” Sky laughs, stepping out of the elevator. The rest of the journey is quiet, as you don’t want to talk about anything too sensitive where it can be heard. Sky knocks on the door to Viktor’s lab and it slides open with a soft woosh. Viktor brightens up when he sees his fiancee and then grins when he sees you and Ekko.
“If it isn’t two of my favorite inventors!” Viktor says happily, accepting the drink from Sky, “Impressive work on Stillwater by the way. I overheard Jayce muttering about how it’s irreparable and I thought he was going to pop a blood vessel.”
“We had some inside help.” Ekko smiles slyly, “Now, we brought some food to eat, so take a break from whatever you’re doing.” He reaches into the bag and tosses a sandwich to him. Viktor catches it, smiling at the sticker on it that said Molina’s when he sees it. The four of you take a seat on the floor away from his work and enjoy a nice lunch. You talk about what happened with Stillwater and the process that you went through. They tell you that no official statement has been reached, but Jayce has been running around all morning. It won’t be long before they’re releasing a detailed statement on what happened.
“So, Viktor. Sky. I wanted to extend another invitation to you two about staying with us in Zaun. We’d love to have you back home, especially because we need someone with your expertise.” You state, tucking your trash back into the paper bag.
“What do you mean you need our expertise?” Viktor furrows his brow.
“We’ve run into a snag with the purification process on a machine being created to assist in cleaning up Zaun. The only person we know who can help is you.” Ekko responds, “We need you.”
“Can I… we… get back to you on that?” Viktor hesitates, sharing a glance with Sky, “We’re trying to get things settled here without causing any issues.”
“Of course. You could just show up at our front door if need be.” You shrug.
“Thank you.” Sky says sincerely, “We really appreciate how welcoming you’ve been.”
“Sky, you’re-” Ekko gets cut off as the door opens. You all look up to see the Man of Progress himself walking into the room. He gives you and your brother a curious look before turning to Viktor.
“The Council needs you to sit in on this meeting about Stillwater.” Jayce says, “And, who are your friends?”
“Jayce, this is Heiress and Heir Pyre. They’re friends of mine that I met a while ago during Progress Day.” Viktor introduces you to him. Jayce’s eyes nearly pop out of his head at that and you can see how fast he’s thinking.
“It’s nice to meet you, Heiress and Heir Pyre.” He reaches out to shake your hands and you begrudgingly do, “Actually, would you like to come to the Council meeting? We could use your expertise and perspective.” You blink in surprise. ‘Did someone talk to him about me? Either way, this is not something I should be passing up.’ You and Ekko share a glance and he nods at you. He signals to you that you should be the one to go while he hangs back to talk with Sky. You nod at him before addressing Jayce.
“If the Council would be okay with that, but my brother has a prior meeting with Sky.” You answer, making Jayce nod.
“Meet me in the lobby in five minutes.” Jayce says before exiting the room.
“Does he talk to you like that all the time?” Ekko questions, appalled.
“Yes.” Viktor and Sky chorus.
“Can I strangle him?” Ekko asks seriously.
“Only after I do it.” Sky huffs, crossing her arms.
“Please don’t strangle him. He, unfortunately, writes my checks.” Viktor sighs, standing up and stretching. You do the same and clean up the mess of the food wrappers on the floor. You weren’t expecting to waltz into a Council meeting but here you were. It looks like your new identity is already getting you into places you’ve never been before.

Sisters of Mine
Chapter 4
3rd POV
Ekko watches as Y/N finally tires herself out from crying and slumps against the boy. He sighs, sniffling wetly as he glances at Vander’s lifeless, hulking body. He sees the purple veins covering his exposed skin. Ekko winces slightly at the black eye that’s swollen shut before finally spotting the 3 stab wounds to his chest. While he wasn’t as close to Vander as the others were, Ekko certainly felt like Vander was another father figure for him and Vander had often told Ekko that he was his kid as well.
Ekko’s thoughts wander to Vi and Powder. Seeing Vi get taken by an Enforcer, Ekko’s almost certain Vi will be killed. And Powder….the man with her…the man with the eye. Silco. The one who ruined everything. Ekko remembers seeing how he embraced Powder. As if he connected with her on some level. He has to save Powder, Ekko thinks to himself. Ekko shifts Y/N so he stands while holding her against his body. She limply lays her head on his shoulder with her arms draped over his shoulders with his arms wrapped protectively around the little girl. Ekko glances around before deciding to go back to the Last Drop.
Ekko’s POV
As I hold Y/N in my arms, I glance around before deciding to head back to the Last Drop, assuming that Silco took Powder to wherever he must’ve been before confronting Benzo. The Last Drop would be empty now. I hurry back but stop and hide in an alleyway that faces the bar. I see some of the people Silco had with him out front as he walks through the front door with Powder in his arms.
“Guess that’s off-limits now,” I whisper to myself. All of Y/N’s stuff was in the bar. I guess I have to go back home. I’m greeted with Huck pacing outside the front door. He spots us and hurries over.
“There was an explosion-“ Huck tries telling me, but I nod, cutting him off.
“I know,” I say.
“What happened?” He asks nervously, but I shake my head sadly. He frowns.
“I’m…sorry,” Huck says, understanding what’s happened.
“But you should leave. Silco’s men have been scouring the place. It’s only a matter of time before he comes here,” Huck warns me. I nod in agreement.
“I just need a few things-“ I say, gently setting Y/N down.
“Where are you going to go?” Huck asks as I pack my canvas bag full of tools, the remaining food and money Benzo had, blankets, a change of clothes for Y/N, and my stopwatch.
“I’m…not sure. Are you leaving?” I ask.
“N-No…no, I think I’m going to see who else is left,” Huck responds.
“Take care of yourself Huck,” I tell him, offering a hand. We shake and Huck nods.
“You too,” he says, glancing at Y/N. He walks out, shutting the door behind us. I slip my arms through the straps of my bag before bending down to pick Y/N up. She mumbles and stirs in her sleep as I shift her in my arms before heading out.
Reader POV
I gasp awake, jolting up from being slumped against a wall. I look around and see I’m in an alleyway. I’m confused. Why am I outside? Did the others get Vander? Wait—I remember…fire. A building was on fire. I remember hearing Powder crying…Vi…Vi yelled at her and-and…hit her. Vi never hits us. Never—but..Vander…and the boys. Was that real or a nightmare? That’s when I hear a pounding sound. I get up and hurry around the corner. I see Ekko nailing up boards on the windows and across the doorway to the pawnshop.
“Ekko?” I ask timidly. He jumps slightly but when we make eye contact, he turns sad.
“Y/N—I…I’m so sorry,” Ekko says and I realize that everything that happened….really happened. It wasn’t a nightmare. I let the tears fall down my cheeks.
“I’ll take care of you, Y/N. I won’t let anything happen to you, I promise,” Ekko assures me, pulling me in a hug. I cry a bit before I’m able to take some shallow breaths.
“Don’t leave me..please,” I whimper.
“Never, I promise,” Ekko says before I pull back and he grabs his pack off the ground.
“C’mon, we should move before Silco finds us,” Ekko says, offering me a hand. I take it and we start walking through the maze of alleys.
“Silco…” I repeat the name as we walk.
“Was that the man with Pow-pow?” I ask and Ekko nods.
“He took her, just like Marcus took Vi,” Ekko says.
“How do we get them back?” I ask the older boy and at first, he doesn’t answer. Instead, he looks away.
“I…don’t know. First we need a safe place to regroup. Enforcers will be swarming the Lanes any second now with the Sheriff dead,” Ekko says.
It doesn’t take long for the Enforcers to show up. Ekko holds me back against the wall so a passing Enforcer doesn’t see me and I nod my thanks. We make it to a dead end.
“Where do we go?” I ask.
“Here,” Ekko says, opening a grate. I silently crawl inside and he follows me.
The space opens up and we move through pipes, alleys and rooftops until we get to a place I don’t recognize. I’ve hardly been outside the Lanes anyways so I haven’t seen much of the Undercity, not like the others.
“We’re almost there,” Ekko tells me as I start panting. His shirt and forehead is sweaty but he doesn’t seem tired.
“Do you know where we are?” I ask.
“I’ve been here a couple times with Benzo. He knows some thrifters around this part of the Undercity. But, he’d always take me to this particular spot,” Ekko explains.
We slip in between 2 buildings and that’s when the space opens up to a huge area with…something brown and green in the center. As we walk in, the air becomes sweeter, lighter…cleaner, compared to the rest of the Undercity. My eyes widen and I stare in awe at it.
“Ekko…what is that?” I ask, pointing up. The light looks spotty since the green things block it.
“It’s a tree. Benzo said it’s the last tree in the Undercity. Most people don’t really know about this place since most of the buildings around here are abandoned,” Ekko tells me. I squeeze his hand at the mention of Uncle Benzo.
“Is this our new home?” I ask.
“It needs some work, but this place is ours,” Ekko nods. I smile but it turns sad when I think about my old home. The Last Drop.
3rd POV
Ekko slips his arms out of the straps and puts the canvas pack on the ground.
“Here, you should eat,” Ekko tells Y/N, fishing through the bag before pulling out a cloth tied at the corners. He undoes the loose knot and Y/N sees 2 golden biscuits and her mouth waters. Y/N takes one and Ekko takes the other. The two find a large rock to sit on and they start eating the slightly old biscuits Benzo made. They’re just glad to eat. Ekko swallows his bite before tears form in his eyes. Y/N looks up and notices. Ekko sniffles wetly and wipes his wrist against his eyes.
“Ekko?” Y/N asks, concerned for her older brother.
“I just…he made these for breakfast 2 days ago…Now that Benzo’s gone…these biscuits were the last thing he made,” Ekko says and Y/N suddenly freezes, not taking another bite.
“O-Oh…here, you can have mine,” Y/N says, offering her biscuit to Ekko, despite the bite mark in it.
“No-No I just…I’m sorry. Besides I can’t eat alone…we’re sharing his last meal together,” Ekko tells Y/N, who smiles and nods.
Almost a month has passed since everything happened. The first few days for everyone felt like a dream…no…a nightmare. Only Ekko and Y/N seem to be doing relatively alright compared to Vi and Powder. Ekko and Y/N built a small enclosure inside the base of the tree, supporting the roots with wooden boards and scrap metal. Y/N still asks every day about Powder and Vi and sometimes, Ekko doesn’t know what to say. During the first night alone, Ekko left Y/N to go try and get Powder back, but he was spotted by one of Silco’s guys. A large, muscular, pale man with almost gray skin and covered in tattoos had caught Ekko trying to sneak in through a vent shaft on the side of the building. Ekko barely got away and decided he should be looking after Y/N instead. If anything happened to Ekko, Y/N would be all alone. And he promised the girl he wouldn’t leave, ever.
The kids are inside their makeshift hut. Y/N is coloring while Ekko lays on the pile of blankets they use as a bed.
“Ekko?” Y/N asks, getting the boy’s attention.
“Hm?”
“I know you said you were gonna wait to get Pow-pow, but what about Vi?” Y/N asks and Ekko looks uneasy.
Ekko’s POV
“But what about Vi?” Y/N asks me and I look uneasy. It’s not like Y/N hasn’t asked about Vi but Powder has been closer, and all I know about Vi is that she’s somewhere topside. If she’s even still alive. Maybe that Enforcer, Marcus, killed her and left her somewhere. I try to push that thought away.
“I..I know we have to get her too. But she got taken by Marcus, remember?” I ask Y/N, wondering if she remembers everything from that horrible night. She nods sadly and my heart breaks for her.
“I…was planning to see if anyone knows anything…you know, ask around,” I explain. Y/N gasps and a wide, excited smile spreads across her face.
“N-Now Y/N-I..I don’t wanna get your hopes up-“ I try to tell Y/N as gently as I can.
“Someone must’ve seen them leave-“ Y/N insists.
“Hopefully, but I can’t promise anything-“ I tell her and she nods.
“Let’s go right now-“ she says, tossing her colors down on the floor.
“I need you to stay here where it’s safe,” I tell her and that’s when I see her eyes widen and a far away look shines in her eyes.
“No! NOOO!!! You can’t leave me!! You promised!” She suddenly exclaims as tears start streaming down her face. A familiar memory of Powder suddenly freaking out makes me see the similarities between the two younger sisters.
“Y/N? Y/N! It’s ok! If you promise to do everything I say, no questions asked, I’ll let you come,” I insist.
“R-Really?” She asks, sniffling, wiping her nose. I nod.
“I promise,” she says seriously and holds out her pinky. I smile and lock my own with hers before taking my shirt and wiping away the tears still covering her cheeks.
“Ok, I know a couple people we can ask,” I tell her. She looks at me curiously.
“Jericho, and maybe Margot,” I explain and she nods. There are others but I’m sure they wouldn’t use the same level discretion. And we can’t have word going around.
“C’mon, stay with me,” I tell her and we head out. I lock the door with the padlock I found rummaging through the scrap heaps. I keep the key on a chain.
We walk through the streets until we pass the Last Drop. It’s a bit of a walk now but it’s safer for Y/N being farther away. Jericho’s isn’t far, just across the block. I’m holding Y/N’s hand until her smaller hand slips out of mine. I look back and feel slight anxiety rise until I see she’s just…standing…staring. I wonder for a moment what she’s looking at until I follow her gaze and see a familiar head of blue hair. I freeze in shock, just as Y/N is until I feel my legs running towards her. It’s her! Powder! And Silco is with her!
“Wait for me!” I hear Y/N call after me. I slow to a stop. Because they’re walking away, they don’t see us.
“Powder?” I ask. She freezes and stiffens. I hear Y/N catch up and feel her cling to my side. A silent moment passes as Powder slowly turns around. My eyes widen and sadness washes over me when I see tears forming in Powder’s muddy blue eyes.
“Jinx? What’s wrong?” Silco asks Powder.
Reader’s POV
“Jinx? What’s wrong?” The man with Powder asks her. I gasp and my eyes widen.
“J-Jinx?” I ask and it’s like she just now notices me. I let go of Ekko’s pant leg and hurry towards my older sister until Ekko puts a hand on my shoulder, stopping me.
“Who are they Jinx?” The man…Silco…asks. She looks at me, then at Ekko before shaking her head!
“I don’t know,” she replies, grabbing hold of the thin hand outstretched to her. My eyes widen and tears form in my eyes. I pull out of Ekko’s grip and take a few steps towards my older sister.
“Pow-pow-it’s me-“ I insist. “C’mon-“ I reach out my hand to her. I flinch when she immediately steps away, pulling her hand back. What? Why?! Why isn’t she coming?! I don’t understand! I feel the tears start to slip out of the corners of my eyes.
“Powder! It’s us! Tell her!” I cry to Ekko, pulling on his arm, but that’s when I see he has his own tears streaming down his face.
“I’ve never seen them before,” Powder says to Silco.
“Stay away from my daughter-“ Silco snaps at me and Ekko instinctively steps in front of me protectively.
I watch as the two walk towards the bar’s front door.
“Powder! Please! Come back!! Come BAAAACK!!!!” I plead, sobbing. I try racing after them, but Ekko grabs hold of me. I look back and see that he’s crying too.
“We have to go!” Ekko orders. I turn back and see that Powder and Silco are gone. The door opens and two people stare right at us, walking towards us.
“Now!” Ekko snaps, picking me up as I cry. Ekko eventually has to set me down and pulls me along as we run. I glance behind us every now and then, but I don’t see anyone following us.
We round a corner and hide in a small alley that’s basically all pipes and duck behind a giant rusted out pipe. The two following us run by and Ekko sighs with relief.
“C’mon, let’s go back,” Ekko tells me and I nod, still thinking about what Powder said. I follow him as we step out of our hiding spot and we hurry back to our hideout. I have to wipe my eyes every so often.
Once we get back inside, I look at Ekko.
“Why? Why did Powder say that? Why didn’t she come with us?” I ask, still crying.
“I…I don’t know,” Ekko admits, just as confused as I am.
“Powder doesn’t love me anymore!” I cry.
“No! No Y/N-Powder just…had to say that. Silco was with her. Who knows what he does to her…what he says to her,” Ekko assures me. I sniffle and pull back to look at my older brother.
“R-Really?” I ask timidly, hiccuping slightly.
“She’s your sister Y/N. Powder will always love you, no matter what,” Ekko tells me, squeezing me slightly as he says that.
“And I’m here. I won’t let anything happen to you. I’ll always be here for you,” Ekko adds, gently stroking the back of my head lovingly. Meanwhile…
Silco’s POV
“Stay away from my daughter,” I growl at the two kids after seeing how distressed my newly adopted daughter looks. Holding the blue-haired girl’s hand, I walk her inside the bar, hearing the cries of the younger kid as the door closes. I hear crying and look down. What started as quiet sniffling has evolved to a sobbing mess.
“Jinx? Jinx, it’s ok. I’m here for you,” I assure her, kneeling down and offering open arms. Powder, now calling herself Jinx, immediately wraps her scrawny arms around me tightly and cries. Knowing not to ask her anything, instead I think back on what happened. Those kids didn’t say any names or any useful information, but it’s clear they know Jinx. I’ll have to keep her away from them.
“You can always talk to me about anything child, if you want,” I offer. She pulls away and looks at me. I give her a gentle smile and a small nod. Ever since meeting Jinx in the alley, I’ve promised her…and myself, that I’d give her the life I wished I had. I had Vander, sure, but he left, just like Jinx’s sister, so I understand. She nods.
“Can you make my juice?” She asks me and I nod.
“Of course,” I say and head behind the bar while Jinx climbs up on a barstool. I look and see her cup on the lower shelf behind the bar. It’s covered with her drawings. I pull out the fruit juice before setting her cup in front of the girl. I pour until the cup is full before dropping in the metal straw.
As Jinx sips on her drink, I think about the two kids we saw. When Vander had told me that he took in a 5 children, I remember Benzo had agreed with him and said that he also took in a boy orphaned in the failed rebellion. I’m pretty sure that dark-skinned boy from earlier, was the one Benzo took in. That means…that younger girl with him…I vaguely remember Vander talking about a newborn when he told me about the children he took in. I wonder if that newborn was the little girl. I can’t be certain yet, not until Jinx wants to talk, but I’m almost sure that that little girl…is Jinx’s younger sister.
Vi’s POV
The last thing I remember is blacking out, trying to get to Powder. I groan, waking up in a cold, cement box. Once my vision comes to me, I look around and see a flat mattress, a metal toilet in the corner along with a rusted out sink. One of the walls is just metal bars and I realize I’m in prison!
“Ugh-“ I groan, shaking off the daze. My thoughts immediately go to Powder as I push myself up off the cold cement floor. I stagger over to the bars and grab hold to support myself. The blood from what happened still coats my knuckles. I shut my eyes when I remember how harshly I hit Powder and how she…looked at me. She was terrified of me. But she still cried for me, pleading for me to come back for her. I’m so sorry Powder. I’m so sorry.
“Lemme out-“ I order weakly before I start to really wake up and come to. I blink a few times before feeling my energy return.
“Hey! HEY!!! LEMME OUT OF HERE!! I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING!!!” I start yelling.
“Silence!” I hear a low, intimidating voice boom. I look and see a large man, larger than Vander, walk by in an Enforcer’s uniform, though with no helmet. His dark beady eyes glare down at me.
“You’ll learn quick that in here, you do as I say,” he growls at me, opening my cell. Now’s my chance! I rush forward and try jumping out of the way of his grip. I grab hold of one of the metal bars as I’m suddenly stopped. I’m yanked backward and tossed into the concrete wall.
“GAH!” I yelp, crumpling to the floor with a groan. Everything’s spinning and I feel weak again. He grabs his stick and strikes me hard and quick. I’m able to block with my forearms, but the power alone is enough to make my cry out in pain. After the 3rd hit, I black out.
3rd POV
After about a month passes, Vi learns quickly how to survive Stillwater Prison. The first few sleepless nights were the worst. All she could think of was Powder…and Silco standing over her, ready to kill her. She was going to get to her until—Marcus. Anger boiled in Vi at the thought of him. Sometimes, her thoughts drifted to Y/N, but remembered that Ekko was also in the area and hoped and prayed to anyone that would listen that the two kids stayed together.
During that month, word of the explosion in the Undercity has made it’s way topside. Most in Piltover, however, do not care. However, there is one man in particular, who has taken note of this news. Jayce Talis. Mr. Talis had been in possession of special blue glowing stones called Hexcrystals until he was robbed by Vi and her siblings, including Powder. During the robbery, an explosion destroyed his apartment. All but the one from his desk were lost. Jayce had assumed that the other Hexcrystals were destroyed in the explosion. He also briefly wondered if the Hexcrystals caused the explosion. Until he heard about the blue explosion in the Undercity, he assumed that either way, the other Hexcrystals were destroyed. But now…Jayce is faced with the possibility that others are still out there…in the Undercity. However, now partnered with Viktor, Professor Heimerdinger’s assistant, Jayce hardly has the time to follow up with the robbery case, especially now that Sheriff Greyson is dead. The new Sheriff of the Enforcers is Marcus, who still reports to Silco. Most Enforcers don’t know and think his crass personality is just who he is, not because he is working for Silco.
As Sheriff, Marcus is often cold towards the Enforcers under him and typically has unpleasant interactions with the rookie, Caitlyn Kiramman. Caitlyn’s been training since she was about 16 and despite being a good shot, she is still quite naive in certain regards. The Kiramman family is one of the wealthiest families in Piltover and the matriarch of the family, Cassandra, is even on the city Council.
Time Lapse—3yrs
3rd POV
3 long years have passed since Vander’s death and the explosion at the cannery. Vi’s first few months were rough. Nearing 20, Vi still gets nightmares about what happened and she can’t help but think the worst has happened to her little sisters. Powder has grown into a wild, but still emotionally damaged 13yr old. Thanks to Silco and his resources, he’s able to get her all sorts of books and materials to perfect her bombs. Ekko is 14 now and has also grown into an excellent inventor and tinkerer as well as an overprotective older brother for Y/N, who’s now a rambunctious but incredibly intelligent 7yr old. Ekko and Y/N also try to help out those affected by Shimmer and who oppose Silco and his growing empire. There is a small group of 5 people who now live in the hidden safe haven with Ekko and Y/N.
Because she’s older now, Ekko has to keep a closer eye on Y/N since she has a tendency to do what she wants and go head first into fights, something that reminds Ekko of Vi. She’s also wicked smart like Powder and he’s a bit jealous of how easily math and physics came to the little girl, but he’s happy for her all the same. She even helped Ekko come up with the idea of a hoverboard, for easier transportation. The two are still working on the physics and design but it’s a nice project to help keep Y/N’s mind off her sisters, who she asks Ekko about every day.
In the 3 years that have passed, Ekko’s seen Powder, now going by Jinx, 2 other times. He caught Jinx out with Sevika and she screamed at him to go away, threatening the boy with a homemade pistol. The other time Ekko had seen Jinx alone and ambushed her. Ekko tried to get through to her, but Jinx managed to get free and tackled Ekko, beating him into submission. She stopped after the 3rd or 4th hit when she saw him look at her in fear. In that moment, Jinx knew that Ekko saw her…the real her.
Despite those interactions, Ekko refused to tell Y/N, even though she constantly asked about her older sisters. He doesn’t want to…taint..the relationship Y/N still thinks she has. She’s only 7 and from what she’s told Ekko, she remembers seeing Vi slap Powder so hard the blue-haired girl fell to the ground and Y/N remembers hearing Vi call her a jinx. Protecting Y/N from the truth of what’s happened has been hard for Ekko and as he’s gotten older, he’s wondered if this was how Vi felt, shielding everyone as best she could. It doesn’t help that there are others now who also depend on him. Luckily, the others that have joined him and Y/N all help out around the sanctuary so he’s not doing everything. One of those is a male Vastaya named Scar. He’s one of the older ones, and he’s taken a sort of protector/teacher role to Ekko, being a few years older than the dark-skinned boy. He’s also become great friends and also another older brother figure to Y/N. He helped Ekko and Y/N build the storage room, medical room and even helped expand the main housing building and built upwards onto the tree’s thick, strong limbs.
In the passing years, Piltover has progressed and grown thanks to Jayce Talis and his partner, Viktor, leaving the Undercity of Zaun further behind. It doesn’t help since Vander is gone and Silco is left to fill the vacuum of power. He’s used his Shimmer production to control the citizens of Zaun and further his own empire. Thanks to Marcus, Silco’s Sheriff on the inside, the crime boss has gone unnoticed by the Councilors of Piltover.
Because of his success, Jayce has gotten the attention of Mel Medarda, an influential Councilor member. She hasn’t really made waves in her position, not until she met Jayce at his hearing 3 years ago. She’s taken an interest in the young inventor, much to Viktor’s annoyance. Viktor, a disabled young man from the Undercity, partnered with Jayce originally because they vowed to improve the lives of those in the Undercity. Now that politics have gotten involved, Viktor finds that particular part of his work tedious. In the Undercity…
Y/N’s POV
I’m with Ekko while the others are out salvaging in the junk heaps. I’m coloring while he listens to music on the record player we found and fixed up. I’m still looking for an extension chord so we can take it outside. I finish the picture I’m drawing. My family. Me, Ekko, Powder and Vi all together, here at our tree. I even drew Scar off to the side next to Ekko.
“Ekko, now that I’m older, can I go see Powder?” I ask him. He sighs and shuts his eyes.
“Y/N, I told you Powder doesn’t want to come with us,” Ekko tells me.
“I know that’s what you said, but if I talk with her, maybe-“ I try, but he gives me a look.
“No. She’s made her choice,” Ekko says curtly.
“That’s not fair! You won’t even let me try! She’s my sister!” I argue angrily.
“Powder’s gone Y/N—all that’s left is Jinx. She’s not who you remember,” Ekko snaps.
“No! No she’s Powder! Not Jinx! Please Ekko, let me try!” I beg.
“She’s not your sister anymore. She’s changed,” Ekko insists.
“I can talk to her. Please Ekko! I deserve to try!” I argue. He sighs.
“Y/N…remember when I came home beaten and bloody…I told you that it was a street fight?” Ekko tells me and I nod, remembering how he looked. His left eye was swollen and black, his nose was bloody and his lip was split and bleeding down his chin.
“Well…that wasn’t exactly what happened…I know I should’ve told you the truth, but I didn’t wanna hurt you-“
“What happened?” I ask, interrupting. He sighs and looks away.
“I…I tried talking with Powder but…she didn’t want to hear anything I had to say. She made it perfectly clear to me that she is Jinx before beating the shit outta me,” he explains. My eyes widen.
“N-No…No sh-she wouldn’t-“ I try defending Powder, but Ekko shakes his head.
“She’s not your sister anymore Y/N. I’m sorry but Jinx is all that’s left of her,” Ekko says as I start to cry. He walks over to me and gives me a gentle but affirming hug.
Ekko manages to calm me down just as the door opens. I pull back and we both turn to see Scar hurry inside.
“Little Man-there’s something you need to see-“ he says urgently. Ekko looks down at me.
“I’m sorry,” he says gently, “stay here until I get back ok?” Ekko says and I glance away before nodding once. I watch as he and Scar hurry out, leaving me alone.
Once I’m alone, I think on everything Ekko told me about Powder. She’s not your sister anymore. The name Jinx causes me to stop. I remember how Powder would tell me how she was afraid of being a jinx to Vi and the boys. Since she hates that name, I don’t like that name either. I know I could get through to Powder if I just talked with her. I know Ekko doesn’t want me to ‘cuz he thinks I’ll get hurt, but she’s my sister. I deserve the chance to try. He stopped me from trying to go to Vi and Powder 3 years ago…I can’t let him do that again. I grab my worn out boots and shove them on before hurrying out, slamming the door behind me.
I race through the streets. Now that we’ve been here for a little while, I’m more familiar with the area and I can easily navigate my way through alleys, pipes, streets, and even the sewers. In no time, I’m back at the Lanes…our old home. I hide in the shadows and peek out from a narrow alleyway to look for any of Silco’s goons. From what Ekko’s told me, they mostly hang around the bar but some do go out and walk around. I make sure it’s clear before hurrying out and moving towards another, closer alley. I hide behind some broken wooden crates before watching the front door to the Last Drop open. My eyes widen when I see it’s Huck! I’m about to call out to him when I suddenly catch sight of his face. He looks…different. His eyes are glowing a sickly pinkish purple color.
I stay silent and wait for Huck to pass before running past the front door to the side alley. I hide behind some trash as the side door to the bar opens! I gasp quietly and freeze when I see Powder walk out! Her clothes are different and her hair is longer and in 2 braids now.
“Pow-pow?” I ask. She stops and turns around so I step out into the open. Her eyes widen and tears start streaming down her face.
“Y/N?” She asks and a wide smile grows on my face as I run towards my older sister. I leap at her and cling to her waist. She doesn’t move at first until I feel her arms wrap around me and grip tight. I feel her shake before dropping to her knees, sobbing. I feel myself starting to cry as well. After all this time. Together again.
“I’m sorry-I’m sorry-I’m sorry-I’m sorry-“ She sobs, repeating over and over, each time her grip tightening.
“I-I left you..like—“ she suddenly says pausing. I pull away and see the terrified look in Powder’s eyes. But…it’s like she’s looking in the distance. She gasps suddenly and pulls away from me.
“No-NO!! I-It is you—you are real…aren’t you?” Powder suddenly asks me.
“W-What? Pow-pow it’s me-Y/N…c’mon I’m taking you home,” I tell her, offering a hand. She reaches out to me but stops and pulls back.
“I..I am home. I never left,” she tells me, looking at the door.
“Powder I need you-“ I beg, “please!” She shuts her eyes and backs away, covering her ears with her hands.
“No-stop! Stop it!” She says angrily, almost as if in pain.
“Powder please!-“ I plead.
“Stop calling me that! It’s Jinx now!!” She snaps at me.
“You’re not a jinx!! You never jinxed me!! Please Powder!” I beg, starting to cry as I feel my heart being ripped apart.
“Shut up! All of you!” Powder snaps and I flinch slightly.
“H-Huh?” I ask, confused.
“I hafta think!” She says.
“C’mon! Ekko is waiting for us-“ I insist. Her eyes widen at the mention of the boy, who I see as an older brother. I’m not sure how the two of them feel about each other.
“It’s ok, I’ll protect you now,” I tell her, reaching out and gently grabbing her hand. She gasps and looks down at our interlocked hands before looking down at me. She suddenly jerks away.
“Everyone shut up!” She snaps, seemingly talking to her side.
“Y/N!!” A familiar voice suddenly calls out. Our eyes widen and we turn to see Ekko staring at us. He looks between the both of us.
Ekko’s POV
“Y/N!!” I call out. The two girls turn to see me, their eyes wide and full of surprise and shock. I look between the both of them.
“Ekko! I-I was just-“ Y/N stutters slightly. I shake my head.
“We’ll talk later. Are you alright?” I ask. She nods.
“Of course, why wouldn’t I be?” She asks.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t she be?” Jinx growls at me. I steady myself before looking at Y/N and motion for her to come, not saying a word. She frowns and looks between me and Jinx. Jinx seems to realize the choice Y/N has to make. Jinx’s eyes widen and she takes a protective stance in front of Y/N, grabbing her shoulder.
“You will not take her from me!” Jinx snaps at me.
“Does that mean you’ll come with us?” Y/N asks, causing Jinx to pause.
“No-I…I mean-I-but…but…I can’t-“ Jinx stutters, shutting her eyes and shaking her head as her hands come up to squeeze the sides of her head, gripping her hair tightly.
“Yes you can! We’ll protect you,” Y/N insists. Jinx backs away from her and shakes her head. While Jinx looks distracted, I hurry over and pull Y/N back towards me.
“I..I want to stay with him,” Jinx says and our eyes widen. Y/N gasps.
“But Silco’s a bad man-how could you-?” Y/N asks, when Jinx suddenly screams and pulls out her pistol and points it right at Y/N’s head!
“SHUT UP! He was there for me! YOU DON’T KNOW!!” Jinx yells at Y/N, who flinches, hiding behind me. Despite the gun, I stand firmly as Jinx switches her aim to me.
“Stay away from me! Both of you!” She growls, glaring at me, then down at Y/N, who whimpers.
“B-But Powder-“ Y/N tries.
“Jinx! I am Jinx!! Go away!! GO AWAY!!” Jinx yells and that’s when I hear footsteps from inside. I grab hold of Y/N, despite her protesting and run as fast as I can, trying to keep hold of the squirming, wiggling girl.
We get to the junk heaps where we used to scavenge and I have to put Y/N down as she cries. I frown.
“I…I’m sorry Y/N…I didn’t want you to find out that way-“ I try telling her.
“W-Why? Why did Powder do that? We’re her family too-“ Y/N cries, clearly not understanding. I shake my head sadly.
“I don’t think she’s Powder anymore. All that’s left is Jinx and she belongs to Silco,” I tell her. As much as I hate to admit it, especially to a 7yr old, I don’t think Jinx will ever be Powder again. At least, not how I remember Powder. I hear Y/N sniffling so I turn around and kneel down.
“Here, hop on,” I offer. She climbs up onto my back and I loop my arms under her legs as she wraps her arms around my neck before starting to walk home.
End.

you were the one (but you were born to say goodbye)
summary:  The dead girl that he had mourned, not dead at all, just lingering here looking like death warmed up. He can see it in her ashen skin; in those wrong, bright magenta eyes. They look like shimmer and at the sight of them, he nearly balks.

Ekko’s heart is hammering in his chest. It feels so loud that it almost drowns out the ringing in his ears from the explosion.
It’s pure adrenaline that keeps him moving after the bomb went off. He scarcely managed to bat away it in time so it wouldn’t kill either of them.
Because Jinx pulled the pin. She…she tried to kill him.
Jinx tried to kill herself.
Why the fuck would she do that? He’s furious. At her for almost killing the both of them. And at himself for hesitating.
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
He wants to yell at her for it– wants to fight her. But the time for fighting is over, and Jinx– Jinx isn’t moving anymore.
Pure panic washes over him, so raw and intense that he feels like he might throw up. Ekko anxiously presses his fingers against her neck. It’s only when he feels the faint drum of her pulse against his fingers that he feels like he can breathe again.
They can’t stay here. Jinx is still breathing. But only barely. She needs medical help. But Ekko doesn’t know if they can get out of here in time. He doesn’t know how critical her injuries are. He doesn’t even know where to get medical help–
Alright, he needs to slow down.
Ekko takes a deep, steadying breath, trying to ignore how his mind is still moving too fast and his hands are shaking. There’s no time for mistakes or panic. He’s learned that the hard way by now.
He brushes one of his hands over her face – clearing some of the soot off her cheek – and moves to lift her off the ground. When he hears footsteps he freezes.
Shit. He has to hurry up. With his free arm, Ekko grabs his hoverboard, and curses under his breath when he sees the state it’s in because of the explosion.
To begin with, Ekko only designed these hoverboards to carry a single person. Maybe he could’ve carried Jinx along for at least a short period of time, but seeing its damaged stage it’s a miracle if he alone can get out with the hoverboard.
Maybe he can still leave with Jinx– carry her out of here. But as the footsteps grow closer, he runs out of options. Whoever it is can only be a foe because Ekko has no friends on this side of the bridge.
“Oh, look who it is? The boy savior!”
She always knew how to hit where it hurts. He couldn’t save her. Not back then, and not now either.
Because now he can only leave her here to die.
For a split second, he almost convinces himself to stay. It’s certain death if he does, but maybe that’s just how it was always meant to be. They’ve fought each other for years. And Ekko’s had a brush with death more times than he’d like to admit. Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad to go down alongside her.
But he can’t. There are people counting on him. Ekko has a community to take care of and a vision for the future of Zaun he has to see through.
So he lets her go. And instead, he turns on his barely-functioning hoverboard, grabs his broken stopwatch, and leaps off the bridge.
He doesn’t get farther than the docks before his hoverboard gives out. The adrenaline’s worn off and exhaustion inevitably washes over him. His leg is busted, his bones feel sore, and everything aches; His head, his body, his heart.
He wants to keep moving. He has to. He desperately wills his body to get back up, to find a way back home to his hideout. Because if he slows down now then he’s trapped with only his thoughts and this all-consuming hurt. But he’s not getting any farther with his leg like this.
So he cries. Because he’s feeling too much and it’s all spilling over now that his mind is no longer moving a mile per minute. He’s exhausted, he’s bitter, he’s remorseful, and he’s mourning the friend he lost permanently now.
Maybe he’d already lost her years ago. But for that one moment, when she looked up at him with those big sad eyes, he stupidly tricked himself into thinking that he hadn’t. But now it doesn’t matter anyway because she’s dead.
Ekko will pick himself back up and keep moving. He always does and he always will. But just for this one moment – trapped at the docks with only his broken inventions and a heart full of regrets – he lets himself grieve another friend that he’s lost.
There’s a chill in here that seeps right through his bones and into his leg. The fracture healed well enough, but weather conditions like these still send a dull ache through the healed bone.
He steps through rubble and broken glass into the abandoned hideout he hasn’t visited in years. It still stands here even now, damaged and ruined beyond recognition, but still standing. Ekko hasn’t been here in years. It was a risk since…Jinx frequently visited this place.
He’s heard the whispers – hell, he heard the explosion – that Jinx is still around. He can’t wrap his head around it. The last time he saw her, she was at death’s doorstep. And yet they say she’s alive, albeit different now. Maybe she’s like this old hideout she loved so much; damaged and ruined beyond recognition. Ekko’s not sure whether or not he wants to find out.
Everything here is in ruins, but his eyes are drawn to the boxing machine in particular. It’s been completely wrecked. Its metal parts are dented and the plastic cases of the pillows are cracked with their stuffing leaking through. As if someone punched so hard, they wrecked it. And the scoreboard – the one that used to be dominated by Vi – every single score says “Pow” now.
Ekko feels dread rising in the pit of his stomach. He has a bad feeling about this. He turns from the machine to observe the rest of the hideout and freezes when he sees her. Sitting atop one of the ceiling beams, he almost thought she was a ghost.
The dead girl that he had mourned, not dead at all, just lingering here looking like death warmed up. He can see it in her ashen skin; in those wrong, bright magenta eyes. They look like shimmer and at the sight of them, he nearly balks.
“Thought you were dead,” is what ends up spilling from his lips. He’s not sure why that’s the first thing he ends up saying, but he doesn’t know what else to say to her either when he can already tell this isn’t the Jinx he’s always known.
She survived, but as she looks down at him from her perch on the beam – with sunken cheeks and weary eyes – he thinks maybe something in her did die that night on the bridge.
She’s still looking down at him, but her eyes are distant as if she’s not really seeing him at all. She doesn't bother to deign him a response either. And it’s alarming. As if she might drown into nothingness if Ekko doesn’t pull her back to the surface right now. So despite his wariness and pent-up frustration, he keeps talking, if only to keep her present.
“You blew up the council building.” He stalks around the room as he talks, a nervous habit to maintain some sense of control.
For a split second, something in her gaze blazes, but then it’s gone again and her voice is dead as she responds, “They deserved it.”
“Never said they didn’t.” He takes two steps backward, before launching into a sprint and using the momentum to jump high enough to grab onto the ceiling beam. With a grunt, he pulls himself up and sits across from Jinx.
She doesn’t bother looking at him, her eyes still glued to the place he was previously standing. It’s only when he says, “And you nearly killed me. Did I deserve it too?” that her head snaps in his direction.
Her mouth opens and he waits, anticipating what she’ll say. But she closes her mouth again and simply shrugs before averting her gaze, not even bothering to deign him with a reply.
“Why’d you pull the pin, Jinx?” He scowls at her nonresponse, but keeps pushing, “Couldn’t stand losing unless you took me down with you?”
At that, she scoffs. “Don’t ask questions you don’t want answers to.”
“Try me.”
“What do you want?” she jeers. “An apology? I’m not sorry.” She bursts out into laughter, the sound harsh and strident. “I’m not! If I could go back I would do it again!” Her laughter eventually dies down and all emotion drains from her face again. “...I would do it again.”
He doesn’t respond to that, huffing a breath through his nose to keep his anger in check. She’s always known how to push his buttons. The silence is unnerving, but Ekko knows that if he says anything now it’ll just be out of spite.
But Jinx doesn’t give him a choice, as she asks, voice uncharacteristically quiet, “Would it have been so bad? To die with me?”
“Unlike you, I have things to live for,” he snaps.
As soon as it leaves his mouth and she tenses up, he regrets saying it. But then she just laughs again, short and humorless. “Why are you here, Ekko?”
At that, he doesn’t know what to say, so he simply shrugs as she did before. Jinx doesn’t seem bothered by his nonresponse. She makes a considerate noise before she averts her gaze, looking back at the floor as if she sees something – or someone – there.
For a moment, he just watches in fascination as her eyes flicker across the room as if tracking some unseen movement. Her eyes. Eyes that are the wrong color. Eyes that look like shimmer. But hers nonetheless. Eyes that belong to Jinx. Eyes that belong to Powder. Is there really a difference at the end of the day?
And why is he here, seeking her out? Maybe he doesn’t know either. When he got here, he wasn’t even sure if she would be too. Hell, he wasn’t even sure if she was actually alive. He thought he already mourned his friend Powder when Jinx chose Silco over him– Ekko thought that he was ready to kill Jinx when it came down to it.
Turns out he’s just a damn fool who realized too late that Powder and Jinx are one and the same.
“Silco’s dead…” Jinx abruptly says, startling him. Her eyes flicker back to him, that distant, dead look in them replaced by genuine, gut-wrenching sorrow. “Did you know I killed him?”
He bristles at that. Obviously, he’d known Silco was dead, but not that Jinx was the one who killed him.
“Why?” It’s not like he particularly cared that Silco died. In fact, if not for the power vacuum that his death had created, Ekko would be celebrating. But Jinx looks so distraught that he finds himself asking anyway.
“‘Cause I’m a jinx and I kill everything I touch, obviously.” She suddenly laughs again, as if it’s all some twisted joke he doesn’t get the punchline to. “Well, except for myself, apparently. Stupid shimmer makes me heal too fast.”
His stomach drops at that, and he grabs onto her arms, startling her. He hadn’t meant to. It was almost as if it was instinct. Some stupid, irrational way to remind himself that she was still there and to try and keep it that way.
He doesn’t know what to say. Perhaps there is nothing to say when the person you love as much as you hate them just confessed they wanted to die. Ekko struggles to find his voice for a moment.
“How–” he takes a steadying breath, hoping Jinx will ignore the way his voice cracked, “How do you know that?”
“Why do you think I pulled the pin on that bridge?” she asks, her voice shaky. “It was never about you. I’m the one who was supposed to die.” Ekko can see the tears welling up in her eyes and he can feel his own heart bleeding in his chest.
And like the absolute fool he always is when it comes to her, he selfishly ends up confessing, “I don’t want you to die.”
She looks startled at his admission. Of course she would be. He should want her to die. They were enemies who have fought countless times and caused each other so much grief. But despite everything that’s happened between them, when it really came down to it, Ekko was still crushed when he thought she died.
Her face almost imperceptibly softens and she raises her hand to his face. It’s only when she brushes her thumb across his cheekbone that Ekko realizes he's crying too. His breath catches at the touch; at its startling tenderness. And something passes between them, it’s tentative and fragile, yet he doesn’t quite know what to call it. But whatever that unnameable something is, it makes him want to lean forward and kiss her.
As soon as the thought crosses his mind, he thinks it's a terrible idea.
But he remembers her; On that bridge, beneath him, giving him a smile he didn't realize at the time meant goodbye; He remembers every jab and wound she's given him through all the bitter years that they've fought each other; He remembers putting her damn face up on that wall, trying to cope with the fact that something in the girl he loved was gone forever; And he remembers his best friend, grinning at him as they naively talked about their inventions and dreams together.
And then she almost died.
So screw it. It really is a terrible idea, but despite it all, he just wants to kiss her.
He's not sure how he expects her to react as his face moves closer and closer to hers, her eyes flickering from his own to his lips, piecing together what it is he's trying to do.
Ekko thinks his heart may be skipping a beat when, miraculously enough, she closes her eyes and leans forward too, closing the gap between them.
He moves a hand from her arm to the nape of her neck, his fingers tangling in her hair as he pulls her closer and moves his lips against hers. They taste salty and Ekko doesn’t know whether it’s from her tears or his own.
The kiss is soft and gentle, so at odds with everything about their relationship. Nothing about them has ever been soft or gentle. They grew up in Zaun and they had the scars and bitterness to show for it.
But just for this one moment in time, none of that matters. Ekko forgets about the world, about Piltover and Zaun, the Firelights, and those bloodthirsty chem-barons. It’s just him and her. Just like it was during a simpler, happier time of his life. So he focuses on her lips against his. A soft kiss from rough lips, the contradiction so fitting for them– for her.
But all good things must come to an end, and eventually, Jinx pulls back and breaks the kiss. He chases her mouth like he can’t help himself, and she lets him give her one last kiss before separating their mouths again.
He whispers into the space between them, his voice cracking, “I thought I lost you.”
She opens her eyes and there’s so much pain in them as she looks at him and responds, “You have.”
And Ekko feels like she ripped his heart straight out of his chest. It’s not the first time she’s made him feel that way and he doubts it’ll be the last. Because like an idiot, he always forgets that she was never his to keep. And she’ll always break his heart to remind him.
Jinx pulls away from him entirely. His body feels cold now that she’s no longer in his personal space, but he doesn’t stop her as she jumps off of the beam and leaves the hideout. His eyes are on her back the entire time. Waiting to see if just maybe she’ll at least turn around and look back at him.
She doesn’t.

They do have Ekko’s stopwatch!
Pretty cool.
I remain broke but that stopwatch is the most tempting thing.

E: So…What are your plans for tonight?
J: Idk…World Domination. Most likely
E: Sounds nice (*jokes)
J:Hey, Ekko?! You are my world.
E: Awww, thanks baby, thats so swee-
*realisation hits
(Saw somebody use this dialogue and create it into a comic, like a year ago, but I cant find credits)

Pairing: Ekko x GN!Black!Reader
Genre: 3-Part Short Story ;; Part 1 ;; Part 2 ;; Part 3
Synopsis: A mission gone wrong brings to light some not-so hidden mutual emotions.
Warnings: Arcane 3rd Act Spoilers, some cursing,
A/N: Final Part!!! I hope you all enjoyed this series as much as I enjoyed writing it!!!
Tumblr media
Firelights lit up the clearing while the children of the hideaway played in the moonlight. Their laughter and cheers of play were the only semblance of content in the air tonight.
You handed Ekko a wooden cup of tea. He barely looked up as he took it, too into his own world.
You took a seat next to him on the platform below the mural, your feet dangling just above the ground. Your hand found its way onto his clothed back, rubbing soothing patterns into the coarse fabric of his shirt, in hopes of providing a bit of comfort after the events that had taken place earlier that day.
The mission today had gone wrong. What was supposed to be a simple intel gathering assignment became an outmatched struggle for the FireLights that went with Ekko. And to top it all off, a certain blue haired girl was in attendance as well.
Ekko always went on about how time was everything, that if even a second got away, a lifetime of change could be the result. It was why he always had that stopwatch with him, to keep track of the minutes and seconds that would pass, the constant click, click, click of the button to track progress of missions he mentally split into sections.
You had assumed that Ekko had caught sight of Jinx, that he froze for that one second, one second too long. And that was why a FireLight member was in the medbay this evening, resting to recover from the wounds he sustained. It was clear that Ekko felt responsible for it, the guilt he tried to hide displaying itself on his face anyway. The outline of his jaw pulled tight against his skin was another piece of evidence towards the disdain he felt towards himself.
You two stayed like that for a long time. At one point, Ekko began mumbling to himself, words in such a low whisper it was too quiet to hear. Some children left, more came out to enjoy the firelights that provided a soft glow to the clearing.
“I was right there,” were the first words Ekko says loud enough for you to hear.
You turn your head to your side to see the darker complexioned man, hunched over, eyes closed, brows knit together. The rim of the cup you had given him pressed firmly to his forehead.
“I was right. Fucking. There,” he repeats with the added profanity, “One. Fucking. Second.” with each pause, there was a thump from the cup on his forehead to match it.
It wasn’t often that Ekko would allow himself to feel his guilt around anyone, even you, despite how close the two of you were. He very much hated being vulnerable outside the role of ‘big brother’ to the children of the hideaway. Growing up in the streets of Zaun, being weak got you killed. He refused to show his weakness for the sake of those he cared about. Even if it was in front of the people he cared about.
Your hand, which had left his back shortly after it was placed there, hesitantly found its way to the nape of his neck. You could hear him going back to his muttering, questioning the time it took for him to react, wondering what would have happened if more than a second had passed before he reacted. He could hear you calling his name, trying to get him out of his head, but he was too deep into the guilt of ‘what if’ that everything sounded muddled and foggy, even the sound of his own voice.
It wasn’t until he felt the guide of your hand, lifting his head to face you, that he opened his eyes, deep brown irises glossing over. “You’re doing it again. Get out of your head, Ek,” You coaxed.
“I was right there, (Y/N),” he repeated.
“I know, Ek,” you replied, before Ekko succumbed to your pull, crumbling into the crook of your neck. The dampness that trickled down the side of your neck gave you an odd sense of relief; knowing that Ekko was allowing himself to release the overwhelming outrage he felt towards himself for allowing a trusted friend to get hurt, in a way that wasn't destructive, like he was taught to on the streets of the Lanes, but a way that was vulnerable.
You let his silent tears fall, one hand carding through the mess of locs atop his head, the other holding onto his abandoned cup. You weren’t sure how much time had passed before the male pulled his head from the crevice of your neck, a sniffle following close after. Setting the cup aside, both of your hands went to cup his face, thumbs swiping soothingly against his high cheekbones.
“They’re gonna be okay, Ekko,” you whispered. He nodded.

“You’re gonna be okay, Ekko,” You added on. He nodded again, and you dropped your hands, a soft ‘yeah’ leaving his lips as he wiped his eyes with his forearm like a child. Another sniffle and a wipe of his nose later, he chuckles. “I can’t smell anything but rose water now, thanks.”
“I will knock your ass out and make you cry again,” you retorted, evoking a much needed laugh out of the white haired boy, your own following soon after.
Your shared laughter died down, leaving just your eyes to talk. His deep, warm brown ones that shone in the moonlight bore into yours. It was silent, but those eyes spoke so much, yearning to do something but hesitant of a reaction. For a split second, your eyes darted towards his lips, face inching forward while doing so, then darted back as if to ask for confirmation on what was about to happen.
You felt a comforting hand, large on warm, rest its weight on your knee. In turn, you rested a hand on Ekko’s upper arm, toned with muscle and determination.
And in the next second, you both fell into the comfort of one another, connected at the lips while the firelights continued their dance underneath the moonlight.

Arcane framing / Anyone can die in this story, I swear
Tumblr media
I'm supposed to finish next part of CaitVi storyline, but I'm too tired - so just a funny post. Why is Mel the last person we see on council side before credits of Season 1 roll?
Because she's the first person to notice or be notified of incoming missile. With a chime - yes, like a mobile phone. Waaay before it hits the glass.
Lets look at all the options, so everyone can make up own mind if that's a reasonable conclusion to season 1 ending:
Possible items:
1. Zhonyas Hourglass - the chime resembles in game chime for Zhonyas
2. Locket of Iron Solari
3. Guardian Angel
(I'm going to give double points to writers if the item was given to her before leaving Noxus by her mother or her brother or 'her friends oversees [if that wasn't Kino]' - in that order)
4. She has magic abilities - imo. unlikely, since she doesn't seem to know much about magic
5. She will die - for drama and sadness.
No matter that several (I have a list) plot threads have not been explored around Mel and we just got her mother in last two episode to start building into her proper arc for next season. How could she survive the rocket - she's just a human. There's no get out of the jail free cards in this story.
In the following essay I will demonstrate that there's no plot armour in this show, just real armour.
Like with Ekko, Marcus doesn't even blink before he shoots him.
Tumblr media
Also Jinx almost explodes him with herself. But only damage Ekko sustains is a twisted ankle and his broken stop-watch.
With an added wink to the players at in-game rune / item that can grant you one 'get out of damage' free card but after is broken - the stopwatch. When it becomes broken stopwatch - it has a unique trait description "Shattered time - the stopwatch is broken but can still be upgraded". Funny, that Ekko is 'the boy who shattered time', and will probably built it into his Z-drive - aka his passive. It also now precisely only counts 2 and a bit seconds, just how much in game stopwatch grants you. Ekko in game can rewind 4 seconds, so just before red dial on his watch.
Why doesn't this feel like a Deus Ex machina - these kind of narrowly evaded deaths? Because stakes of this show are not in surviving. Every near brush with the death rewards the audience with pushing the story and the character forward. The death or possible death - especially violent - are never with a long, dramatic wind up.
Anyway, next in line is person who nearly got Ekko shot in the first place - Caitlyn. This time Marcus is just a bit too slow to shoot her, I mean he can explain shooting a trencher - he'd have hard time explaining why he shot a daughter of a councillor. Also Jinx's bomb which saves her - only gives her a leg gash - same as Jinx had after her fights with the firelights. But she stapled it herself.
Look at Cait for the first time seeing that well maybe Vi and Ekko had a point about the enforcers. What beauty - that's why Ekko doesn't need to die. The stakes of the scene are with her looking in the face at the reality of her world and her misconceptions, not in Ekko dying/not dying.
Tumblr media
And of course Jinx had opportunity to kill Caitlyn before and after family dinner. She's just soo crazy and irrational /s ... ugh
So next in line, the person who nearly succeeded in the quest to die on that bridge alongside Caitlyn & Ekko - Jinx. Don't worry baby girl, mob-dad and broken-doctor will drag you out of certain death even if you're going to be screaming while having wild shimmer ride. Because they're evil, evil people.
Tumblr media
And just next to her, is her big sister Vi - and her death quest. I mean revenge quest. Same difference.
No worries, Cupcake is on the case. She'll protecc, she'll attacc and most importantly she'll give up her weapon to get Vi shimmer... I mean medicine. So then she can give all the audience blue balls by not kissing Vi.
Tumblr media
And even if Vi leaves Cupcake behind for her not-brother, and doesn't come back to her and instead goes looking for Sevika again (I would do too, she's soo hot). Don't worry, her not-brother has her ass covered with a shield (I think - it must be Jayce's addition). Rightfully so Jayce sensed that alongside miners - Vi not coming back may spell actual death for him from Cupcake.
And she'll repay him by continuing to fight and then completely botching the family reunion. I mean he kind of deserved that but... anyway.
Onto the character that has audience, that knows the game and doesn't know the game, equally scared about him both dying and not dying - Viktor. Who the plot tries to both kill - in terms of terminal illness thanks to Piltover's amazing environmental policies and give all the ways out in terms of Hexcore and...
...lets start with the setup:
Tumblr media
Since Jayce doesn't answer it, we should actually infer it from the context of all dialogue of act 2. The answer is 'none, he's living on borrowed time atm', and for sure not until next Progress day.
But if - which is quite likely - Shimmer was developed thanks to Singed studying Rio's rare mutation and is incremental to him finding cure through hexcore - then the implication are pretty funny. Because every person Viktor befriended thanks to science - aside from Heimerdinger - will actually have helped to save his life. Then of course he'll become the evilest of people.
So including Rio, in the order:
Tumblr media
Rio - the friendly but dying dragon Viktor befriended, that may or may not be how Singed developed Shimmer (like it wasn't in text confirmed in the show). One knows Viktor and Rio are bffs forever now that Viktor has matching arm and leg to his favourite lizard, sorry Jayce and Sky - Rio was first.
Need more time to find cure working with hexcore, no worries Jayce will use - albeit unknowingly - his new found power of economic lobbying to make council throw out Viktor's and his 'mentor'. To buy more time - because btw. that's what Heimerdinger wanted to do in that council meeting, he just didn't have time to finish his speech to push for destroying the research on hexcore.
Viktor goes to the evilest of doctors and he'll offer Viktor a possible solution - Shimmer, also Viktor - dear boy, you don't have time to work on plants. If an infused with his blood hexcore would even ever work on plants.
Then once Viktor definitely knows - with a proof of his leg - that Singed was onto something with his advice and shimmer. What does he do? Oh yes, like a typical, reasonable scientist that follows scientific method, he goes against his empirical findings - because what's the worst that can happen, he's only danger to himself. Only thanks to Sky saving his life - literally - he's still alive.
And the take away from having his life saved by another person is this:
Tumblr media
Of course, also taking Sky's research with him in this scene. I'm sure Sky would approve of both decisions. Thank you Jayce, like save and pass on that poor girl's research at least Viktor. Then you can go do whatever you please, become evil machine villain.
And notable mentions:
Tumblr media
Jayce who like proper person just took his time in this scene, then stayed safe whole rest of Season 1. Thou he did put his own city on fire.
Tumblr media
Sevika who took Powder's mokey bomb like a Zaun's best girl she is to save it's next in line leader. And Singed who also took Shimmer explosion to the face.
I swear everyone can die in this story at any moment.
So why do characters evading death not feel cheap in Arcane?
Because the story is not centred on staying alive for the stakes, most characters actually willingly go out of their way to not stay alive. Looking at you Vi. More importantly every brush near death is a trade off. We as an audience learn more and usually characters learn more - we see them react - Caitlyn and Ekko / Ekko and Jinx on the bridge is a great example. The drama and sadness and guilt ifJinx died... would be a lot less interesting than her staying alive and having both Vi deal with Jinx being Jinx and Ekko probably next season with pre-judging her - still with sadness, guilt and drama. But now Jinx is an active participant. This plot will not stop for the characters being sad moping around. There's enough drama in action that was written. There will be no long bedside speeches and prolonged telegraphed goodbyes imo.. because that kind of drama is cheap and soo overdone. Characters live or die on snap of fingers - like Silco. And that is what keep everyone on edge watching this - the lack of telegraphed deaths, always playing the characters straight not 'disposable' like Mylo and Claggor.
And if real stakes come with characters living or dying, it'll be the finale of the PvZ series of Arcane.
Anyway, yes maybe everyone will die in the council, but how likely is it? Will the show really be more interesting if everyone dies? No, it won't. Prove me wrong Arcane.
Also sometimes staying alive is worse than dying.
This post is for fun.

hi, league player here. ekko doesnt have his time powers yet, but it was both symbolic and HEAVILY hinting at the fact he will acquire them later. i think his fight with jinx was just him remembering an old shot pattern from when they used to play fight at an earlier point in their lives
Ekko: Yeah I carry around this super cool stopwatch and paint an hourglass on my face but I don’t have time powers yet; I’m just super committed to the aesthetic.

One Word Prompt (Ekko's POV)
I told Vi and Caitlyn to meet me at The Last Drop at 2 AM.
I checked my stopwatch. It was 1:50 AM.
I've been hoping to avoid bumping into them again but I couldn't ignore them forever.
They were becoming suspicious of me. I have to at least try to ward them off.
I cracked a grin and chuckled at myself.
I was sitting in an abandoned bar going to be questioned by two enforcers about Jinx's whereabouts.
It's crazy what lengths you'll go through to protect the person you love.
To think if I ever saw her again, I would have helped Vi and Caitlyn take her down.
Back then I was confident that I would murder her and Silco with my bare hands.
Instead, I let Jinx make my sanctuary her home.
After seven years, I thought she could never experience it. But I witnessed firsthand that her smiles were able to show genuine joy.
Her eyes lit up when she did something as benign as blowing bubbles. Showing me her latest crayon drawing or watching firelights fly around the base.
She had a stash of candy hidden in her room that she'll sometimes share with me.
She loves plush animals and cuddling with me. She was ice cold yet I found comfort in her gentle touches.
I failed her so many times in the past.
I can't let them take her away.
I won't.

Book Two of Hexed - The Fury of Zaun (Vi/POC!Reader) - Ch. 3
Next Upload Date: June 30th
Act 1: Chapter Three - It Begins
Tumblr media
Warnings: Anxiety, Flashbacks
Summary: Vi ruminates one what happened last night, while you start to bring your team together.
Tumblr media
Vi’s leg is practically vibrating from the amount of anxiety flooding through her entire being like electricity. She’s been sitting in the guest room at Caitlyn’s estate since they got back last night. Caitlyn was rushed to the hospital with her father while their butler showed Vi to her room. After everything that happened last night, her stomach was twisted in knots and she had no appetite. The breakfast they had given her sat untouched on the table. The food was proof of the difference in their lifestyles. The only thing she recognized on the tray was the waffles. Even the fruits were foreign to her.
Vi lets out a long sigh as she fidgets with her fingers anxiously. The memories have been playing over and over in her head like a film on replay. She was tired. She hadn’t slept a wink since last night. All she has been doing is sitting here, thinking. Thinking about what exactly happened last night. Things took a sudden turn on the bridge yesterday morning, and Vi didn’t know how to handle it. After her fight with Sevika, she was knocked out and woke up tied to a chair. Vi frowns and looks at the tattoo on her wrist. ‘What even happened last night? Everything went by so quickly. Silco’s dead, Y/n thinks Ekko is dead… Y/n.’
“Ekko.” Y/n chuckles darkly and shakes her head. “You want to go there?” Her voice comes out low and threatening as she pins her gaze on Caitlyn, “You. We shouldn’t have trusted you.” Y/n stalks over to her, dragging her claws along the table, leaving deep gouges in the wood. Vi watches helplessly as she lashes out with her hand, grips Caitlyn’s hair, and presses her claws to her throat. “You got my brother killed!” Y/n snarls, “You come into our home talking about healing the Undercity and walk my brother right into a trap?! I will tear your throat out, you Enforcer bitch!” Caitlyn’s screams are muffled by the muzzle, and that makes her heart pound harder. Vi can see Y/n’s hands are shaking, but the claws she wears pierces Caitlyn’s skin.
‘Her eyes were glowing gold. There was nothing there. No pupil, no whites… No soul showed through her eyes. Nothing. It was like she was a demon, a monster. Like the ones we were told about in stories as a child. I know she told me that something changed about her but… I didn’t expect that.’ Vi ruffles her hair. She was surprised at how quickly Y/n turned on Caitlyn. She was convinced that Caitlyn got Ekko killed, and Vi knew Y/n would have killed her if she hadn’t stopped her. But, the fury in her eyes and in her voice was like a shot to the heart to Vi.
“Princess, no! You can’t kill her!” Vi shouts, “Ekko isn’t dead! He wasn’t killed! They were going to kill her too!” She yells desperately. Y/n’s glare gets turned to Vi who recoils in shock. ‘What the hell? W-What happened to her eyes?!’ Enraged, Y/n tears herself away from Caitlyn, and Vi doesn’t miss how her claws rip through her skin and leaves thin cuts behind. Blood quickly wells up and trickles down her neck. Vi’s attention is grabbed by Y/n who storms over to Vi and gets into her face, “You’re sticking up for her? Her?! Do you hear yourself right now?!” She whispers furiously, “She got my brother killed, Vi! There wasn’t even a body! All that was left was his stopwatch!”
“Y/n, I was there!” Vi insists, “Ekko is okay! After the gunshot, he-!”
“-Drop the gun!” Caitlyn shouts.
‘Maybe if Caitlyn hadn’t interrupted, I could have gotten through to her. She would have believed me if I told her that Ekko is alive. But, I didn’t get that chance.’ Vi thinks miserably. After that, things went to hell and that brought her to where she is now.
“You can’t start a war!” Vi shakes her head, “People will get hurt!” The words that Vander said to her years ago resurface in her mind.
“People have already gotten hurt and will continue to get hurt. Especially if WE DON’T do anything.” Powder scoffs, “You wouldn’t be spewing shit like that if you never met Caitlyn.”
“They threw you in prison for six years, Vi! Why are you defending them now?! Why are you defending HER?!” Y/n yells in frustration, “You - out of everyone - wanted to fight all those years ago!”
“Vander…” Vi chokes, “Things are different now. Things have changed. I just want to be with you guys. As I said, we can go somewhere else. You too, Y/n. We can go somewhere no one knows us.”
“Go somewhere else?” Y/n says in disbelief, “This is our home. Our people. You want to leave them all to suffer?” She frowns. Vi searches her eyes before she sighs and shakes her head, “No, but I want a new start with you guys.”
“Then, are you with us?” Powder stands up, “Will you fight with us?”
“I-” Vi’s eyes wander over to Caitlyn. ‘I can’t leave her behind like this. A war… a war will affect her family too.’ Powder shakes her head with a bitter chuckle and walks away from the two of you.
“That’s your answer then.” Y/n sighs sadly, “I should have known.”
Vi clenches her hands into a fist and sighs again. ‘I don’t want anyone to be affected by the war. I lost my mother to a stupid revolt. Vander said that a war wouldn’t be good for anyone… Why can’t they realize that?’ A knock sounds on the door and Vi practically jumps out of her seat.
“Vi?” Caitlyn’s voice sounds through the door. Vi bolts to the door and rips it open. Almost ripping the door from its hinges with the force. Caitlyn stands before her in the same clothes from last night, except there are bandages around her neck.
“Hey… How’s… everything?” Vi questions hesitantly. Caitlyn sighs heavily and walks into the room. Vi shuts the door as Caitlyn takes a seat at the table.
“My mother is no longer in critical condition. They say that she’ll pull through and should wake up today. The same thing is said for some of the other councilors they pulled from the wreckage.” Caitlyn fidgets with the teacup on the tray, “Three of the councilors are dead. They were… Two were crushed by falling debris and a third was blown up.” Vi closes her eyes as a sick feeling of satisfaction flows through her.
“They don’t know how any of the remaining councilors survived… Viktor, too, but everyone is still grateful for it. I mean we can’t look a gift horse in the mouth can we?” Caitlyn rhetorically asks before making eye contact with her, “They’re… on the hunt for Jinx. They won’t stop until they find her, Vi. She killed three councilors and destroyed a whole building. She’s dangerous.”
“She’s my sister!” Vi protests, “I’ve got to get through to her. No one knows how she looks except for you. They won’t find her unless you give her up.”
“Vi, my mother could have been killed!” Caitlyn shouts, “They’re dangerous! Both of them! Your ex-girlfriend is psychotic and nearly killed me for something I didn’t do!”
“Please, Caitlyn. You’ve got to let me get through to them, at least! You missed the whole conversation. I can get through to them, but you have to give me the chance.” Vi begs, “Please.”
“…Alright.” Caitlyn sighs, “We have some time to figure out what we’re going to do before the council is back at it.”
“We?” Vi pauses.
“Yes, we. If you think I’m going to let you do this by yourself and get yourself killed, you’re sorely mistaken.” Caitlyn says firmly, “As I said, they’re dangerous. I don’t care if you think you know them, they obviously proved you wrong, and I don’t want you to get killed.”
“Killed?” Vi snaps her head in her direction, “What makes you think they’d kill me? They wouldn’t do that!”
“They tried to kill me, Vi! Jinx tried to get you to kill me! Your ex tried to kill me with her own hands!” Caitlyn shouts, “So excuse me for thinking they would have no second thoughts about killing you!”
“You don’t know them like I do.” Vi snarls as her hand clenches into a fist.

You watch as the two Zaunites disappear into the rift and you nod to yourself. The last stop you needed to make is at Auvern’s tattoo parlor. When you went into the city this morning, you left a note with each of the girls to get ready to move. They’ll be living with you in the Rapids so it’s easier to coordinate and keep things secret.
You open the door to the parlor, the little bell at the top jingling as you do. Your eyes immediately find the woman you’re looking for at the counter. ‘She’s not hard to miss with her yellow hair.’ You think in amusement. Auvern’s eyes go wide when she sees you. You smile at her which turns into a shocked look when the customer in front of her turns and you see a very familiar tattoo on their arm. Said customer gasps when they see you and glances down at their new tattoo.
“Lady Hexxit.” They grin and nod at you.
“Um… Hello.” You nod back, raising an eyebrow as they squeal at your greeting.
“It’s an honor to meet you.” They grin, “Have a blessed day!” They slightly bow to you as they pass.
“Remember to leave the wrap on for the time I told you!” Auvern calls to the customer as they leave. ‘That was… strange.’
‘Lady Hexxit, hm?’ Umbra chuckles. ‘It has a nice ring to it.’
“My Goddess.” Auvern breathes out, “I didn’t expect you so soon.”
“I decided to come for you earlier than planned. You’re all packed to go?” You lean against the counter.
“Yes. My loft is upstairs, so we can head up there. I had a few tattoo appointments this afternoon which were made last night when I couldn’t fit them in.” Auvern beckons you to the back.
“Was that person just now one of them?” You raise an eyebrow. It was a bit odd seeing a tattoo that was made in your image on someone you don’t know.
“Yes. Word has spread a lot faster than we expected. Dozens of people are coming to me for the tattoo. We created it as a way of knowing who is part of the main group. So, these ones are altered for new people. They’re changed enough to see the difference, but similar enough to know they’re affiliated. A lot of people are pledging themselves to you and your cause.” Auvern grins, “People are saying that you’re a real goddess after dying and coming back to life. It doesn’t help that our oldest deity is siding with you and treating you as an equal.”
“Wait- What?” You blink and look at her in confusion, “People are… what?!” You shout in shock. ‘Me? A Goddess?! How?!’
“People are realizing who you are. No one has died and come back to life before, My Goddess.” Auvern giggles, “And your show with Janna only makes you seem more ethereal in their minds. Not only did she appear for you, but she pledged her support, too. Janna hasn’t been seen in centuries, and some people lost faith in her because of it. So, don’t be surprised if more and more people start referring to you as Zaun’s Goddess.” Auvern gives you a smile before disappearing into her room. It’s not long before she returns with a few bags.
“I… don’t know how to feel about that.” You sigh and rub the back of your neck, feeling a little embarrassed. ‘I didn’t plan for this…’
“Well, it’s out of your hands. But, things are going better than we thought.” Auvern grins, “And to think the girls and I only wanted to have sex with you. What have we gotten ourselves into?”
“You did that of your own volition. I guess the sex was just that mind-blowing.” You wink and take one of her bags, “Were you surprised to realize that I was the one you tattooed?” You smile teasingly as a rift opens. Your acquaintance doesn’t even bat an eye as it does.
“I nearly fainted if I’m honest.” Auvern eyes your tattoo, “That work is one of the best I’ve done. I’m honored it’s on you.” You chuckle and walk through with her to see Jinx sitting by the edge of the cliff. Jinx lazily raises her head and waves before staring back out.
“Welcome to the Rapids. As you can see, I call it that because of the waterfall.” You say to Auvern as she stops next to you. You hear her gasp and you smile to yourself. The surprised responses you’ve been getting from people brings you some joy. Zaun is a rough place, and to be able to ease some of the stress on others makes you happy.
“All of the others went to go choose their rooms.” Jinx says as she stands up, “Sevika decided to cook lunch for everyone and I can take Auvern down and show her around. I know you’ve been dying to get to your lab, so go run off!” She winks at you.
“Thanks, Jinxy!” You grin at her, “I owe you one for this.” You kiss her cheek.
“The girls and I will greet you later.” Auvern smiles, “Go enjoy yourself.” She and Jinx wave you off as you rush to your lab.
‘You seem eager to work on a new project, my child. I’m glad you seem to be doing better. The cracks in your psyche worries me, but I’m glad to see you are managing very well.’
“I have an idea for weapons that we can use. You know how the Firelights have their hoverboards? I want to do something similar, but something that can also be used as a weapon. Without my rifts, I want them to be the only way in and out of the Rapids.” You hum happily. You wade into the water, swimming until you get to the center of the roots and take a deep breath. You dive under, the cold water stinging your eyes as you swim down to a sunken building. It only takes thirty seconds for you to reach the hatch and drop in.
“Woah! I need to finish making the attachment to the tree!” You laugh as the water evaporates from your clothes, “It’s not feasible to swim down every time.”
‘I wonder who decided to put it underwater.’ Umbra comments dryly. You pout as you walk into the main area of your lab. Various vials of chemicals bubble in their racks as the lights flicker on.
“I wanted to try something new.” You shrug, “Besides, the water keeps the inside cool enough when I’m using the furnaces. It’ll also keep nosy people - mainly Jinx - away from my things!” You sit down in your chair and spin to your desk with a giggle. You pull out the blueprints that you’ve been working on and pin them down to the desk.
‘So, what exactly are you planning?’ Umbra hums in interest.
“Wings!” You chirp as you pull out a pencil and ruler, “I’ve been studying Spear Hunter’s wings every visit. See?” You pull a diagram of the hawk’s wings out. You ramble as you point out certain parts of the wings. Umbra listens closely, only commenting when something you say confuses her. Tension in your shoulders that you didn’t know you had, slowly starts to evaporate as you focus on your work.
‘What are you going to make it from?’
“Mm, that’s the hard part. It has to be some kind of metal that’ll handle high velocities, can fold and shift like fabric, and is compatible with chemtech.” You bite your lip, “I don’t know of any metal with all of those properties, but I have a resident chemist now.” You grin. You jot down a few more properties you need for the metal.
‘Hm… what if you created the metal? You can manipulate existing materials and you change their properties unintentionally. What if you did it on purpose?’ Umbra muses. You freeze, the tip of your pencil hovers over the line you were in the process of creating.
“I… didn’t think of that.” You blink.
‘Hexxit.’ You hear Umbra’s disappointed sigh, ‘For Arcane’s sake, use your magic. If I have to tell you another time, I’m going to cry! You created Sevika’s arm using the base metal and manipulated it. Try creating something out of nothing this time.’
“Try creating something out of nothing?” You mumble and place your pencil down. You hold your hands out and close your eyes. You take a deep breath and let yourself fall into a meditative state. A smile forms on your face as you feel the magic in you crackle just beneath your skin. You focus on the thought of creating metal, pulling it into the space in front of you, and it just being there. A soft clunk in front of you forces you to open your eyes and you tilt your head. On your desk is the gemstone you took from the tea party with Jinx. Your eyes flit up to the jar it was in. You stand up and take it off the shelf, raising an eyebrow when you realize that it’s still sealed shut.
You pick up the gemstone and look at it closely. It sparkles innocently at you. ‘I pulled the crystal instead of creating a metal… Wait.’ You grin and close your eyes again, focusing on creating a crystal instead of a metal. Magic bursts from your fingertips and you snap your eyes open. A large pale blue crystal cluster glitters on your desk.
“YES!” You scream in excitement, “HA HA, I KNEW MEMORIZING THE PERIODIC TABLE WOULD PAY OFF, VIOLET!” You cheer at your success before pausing at your words. You frown as sadness rolls through you and you slump in your chair.
‘Hexxit?’ Umbra mumbles.
“Violet…” You play with your pencil, “Violet is… She’s gone, Umbra. I can’t share this success with her.”
‘I understand your pain. It’s important for you to feel it, but don’t let it hold you back. You’ve done something amazing, my child! Enjoy it. Share it with those you can share it with. Maybe one day you’ll be able to share it with your mate.’
You nod your head in determination and flex your fingers, “You’re right. Let’s do this. I can cry about it after the project is done.” The crystal glitters on the desk like it’s waiting for you to pick it up. You pick up the gemstone and place it back into the jar. ‘I’ll look into this sometime later.’ You hold your hands over the crystal and it glows softly. ‘Let’s see what I can do with this.’
~
“Testing. Testing. This is Jinx. Do you copy, bird brain?” Jinx’s voice sounds making you jump.
“Jinx?!” You shout in surprise. You flinch at the loud clang that sounds from the sheet of metal that was balancing on your lap. Your eyes flicker down to see it on the floor, thankfully still in one piece.
“Hexxit! You responded!” Jinx giggles, making you blink.
“Where did you get the comm from?” You ask slowly. ‘Please don’t tell me she did what I think she did.’ You pinch the bridge of your nose in frustration. The line is silent for a moment.
“From the drawer in your bedroom. I got bored and these babies were conveniently labeled! My name was engraved on one so I popped it in!” Jinx explains, “I remember how you activated it once, and here we are! By the way, it’s nighttime and everyone’s complaining that you missed lunch and dinner. I didn't even miss it! Come and hang out with us!” You slam your face into the table. ‘I knew I forgot something in my room.’ You groan but lift your head. ‘Leave it to Jinx to find something I don’t want her to.’ You chuckle and glance at the schematic and the metal currently cooling. ‘I guess I can take a break.’
“I’ll be there in a few seconds, Blue.” You respond and stand up from your chair. With a soft groan, you stretch and sigh as your muscles relax. You happily skip through the rift and grin when you see everyone sitting outside in the nook. It gave the perfect view of the stars at night and that’s why you put it there.
“Hey everyone! I didn’t realize that I was so missed!” You tease them as you plop into the cushion next to Zara. Sevika raises an eyebrow at you and you grin cheekily at her.
“You disappear for hours and missed two meals.” Jinx crosses her arms with a pout, “Of course, we're going to miss you!”
“What were you doing, My Goddess?” Zara raises an eyebrow at you.
“You’ll find out very soon.” You wink with a secretive smile before turning to the others, “I’m happy to have you all here, girls. I wouldn’t be able to do this without you.” A gentle breeze blows through making the fire flicker in their torches.
“We’re glad to be here, My Goddess.” Fue smiles at you as she cuddles closer to Landon. The other girls nod in agreement.
“That warms my heart, but please, we’re not at the brothel. You can call me Hexxit.” You blush, glad that it’s not noticeable, “I don’t mind the title but it’s a reminder that I’ve been intimate with all of you.”
“Not me!” Jinx pouts playfully, “I’m the only one! That’s not fair!” Everyone laughs except Sevika who rolls her eyes. ‘She doesn’t show much emotion, does she?’ Umbra hums. ‘She does. She’s just getting comfortable. She was very expressive when I was younger but only in friendly company.’
“With all due respect,” Landon grins, “addressing you by your name will feel strange for us.”
“Why don’t we call you “My Lady” instead?” Torx taps her chin, “It’s not as extravagant, but it does show that you’re the leader.”
“I don’t think that’s-” You get cut off.
“-That’s perfect!” Jinx grins.
“I-!” They cut you off again.
“-It’s settled then!” Zara grins happily, “We’ll refer to you as “My Lady” instead!”
“Girls-!” You try one last time but Zara covers your mouth.
“Nice job, Torx!” Landon high-fives her.
“Jinx was the one who ran with it!” Torx points to her, “So really, all of the credit goes to Blue!”  ‘They seem to be very comfortable with each other already. They’re even using Jinx’s nickname… What did I miss?’ You blink.
“Yup! But, it was a team effort!” Jinx winks. You deflate and pout when you realize that they won’t let you protest the title. Sevika snickers and you kick her leg from your position on the deck. ‘At least everyone is getting along. I wasn’t nervous about it, but it’s nice to see that I don’t have to intervene with them.’
“Jinx, did you get the tattoo we were talking about earlier?” Fue questions as she shows hers.
“Yup! I can’t show you though because it’s between my boobs.” Jinx shrugs while playing with her braids.
“Wait, you got the tattoo between your breasts?!” Auvern’s eyes go wide, “Why there?!”
“My association with Hex was very secretive. I was under Silco’s care at the time, and there would have been questions.” Jinx explains.
“Well, you’re a part of the group. It doesn’t matter where you have it, but I’m glad you do.” Zara winks.
“Zara’s the one who started the group before our Lady approached her. She said that she felt there was something special about her, and we agreed.” Landon joins the conversation.
“It wasn’t a hard decision either.” Torx’s acid green hair falls out of its bun when she nudges Landon, “She’s quite convincing.”
“Can we… change the topic?” You clear your throat as a heavy blush settles on your face.
“What's the matter, my Lady?” Sevika teases you, “You’re looking a bit pink. Are you getting sick?”
“Shut up, Sevika! Not you too!” You groan and cover your face, “This is so humiliating.” You mumble into your hands. Laughter fills the air as they continue to talk about you. You sigh and lay back to stare up at the sky. The stars twinkle brightly and you smile.
“Hey, girls. Come join me.” You beckon them over. It goes quiet but you hear them moving across the deck to you. You lift your head up and watch as everyone spreads out and lays down. Jinx pokes you as she lays next to you and grabs your hand.
“I haven’t seen the stars in a while.” Jinx says softly, “They’re prettier than I remember.” You hum in response.
“The pollution in Zaun doesn’t let you see them like this.” You respond just as softly.
“I can’t wait for the day that we can.” Zara whispers, “That’ll be a glorious day.”

How Arcane Should Introduce Its Other League of Legends Champions
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Half of Arcane’s audience couldn’t care less about seeing more established characters from League of Legends enter the story in season 2. They’ve never played the game and are content to follow Vi, Jinx, and others they’ve already met, and characters like Viktor and Ekko still have plenty of origin story left to tell. But it’s inevitable that Riot Games will want to introduce new champions and that players will want to see them, and how they are integrated into the existing narrative will be a crucial factor in the show’s continued success among both gamers and non-gamers alike.
The good news is that Arcane has already excelled at pacing itself when it comes to revealing champions in their full power, allowing its main characters to be featured using recognizable in-game weapons while keeping its supporting cast in earlier stages of backstory development. The show has also localized its narrative to the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun with only hints of the expansionist nation of Noxus, and as such, only League of Legends champions from these locations have been explored (with the exception of that initial glimpse of Ryze, the mage who saved Jayce and his mother).
Arcane season 2 should probably continue this trend before widening its scope, and certain hints indicate it probably will. League of Legends players spotted the silhouette of a wolf creature known as Warwick in the shimmer laboratory run by the shrouded character known to gamers (but only called “doctor” in the show) as Singed, who created the beast in the lore of the game. There’s even speculation that Warwick is Vander, Vi and Jinx’s adoptive father, transformed further rather than killed by his sacrifice in the opening chapter.
Singed himself might even invite further development, given that he was seen gazing longingly at a woman’s portrait inside a locket. Based solely on her hairdo, some have guessed this woman might be Orianna, a champion of Zaun made entirely of clockwork that Arcane may choose to introduce, but more importantly, it hints at a deeper, more emotional motivation for the alchemist’s single-minded, somewhat amoral experimentation. Since the Vander-as-Warwick angle ties more into the season 1 arc, that storyline might be the safer bet.
Then there are characters like Caitlyn and Ekko, who deserve their time in the limelight before too many new champions show up. Sure, we saw a sharpshooting drill from Caitlyn, and Ekko had a stopwatch in his showdown with Jinx; but they haven’t become the master sniper and the time manipulater from the game yet. It’s almost as though Arcane has been staggering the development of champions so that they each have their own moment, alone or in pairs. Not a bad way to operate!
After all, if Arcane goes too far with the introduction of new champions, it could dilute its existing story. For example, let’s say Viktor is fully transformed in season 2 and starts following his “glorious evolution” storyline from the games, in which he seeks to help the downtrodden of Zaun by replacing their damaged parts with cybernetic prosthetics. This would be much more preferable than, say, introducing Janna, a wind spirit champion from League of Legends who also protects the less fortunate of the undercity, before finishing with Viktor.
Supernatural creatures like Janna don’t yet fit into Arcane, which has had its magic tempered somewhat by the steampunk setting, and non-gaming fans may be unwilling to embrace the more fantasy-oriented champions League of Legends has to offer, even those located in Piltover such as Ezreal with his magical gauntlet. And that’s not even considering heroes associated with Noxus, another Runeterra location added to the show, which could further muddy the waters.
The fearsome champions of Noxus may someday make their way to Piltover in order to appear in Arcane, but they would likely be reserved for a season 3 and beyond. And before Katarina the Noxian assassin or Draven the pompous gladiator make their debut, viewers will be more interested to see who fills the power vacuum left by Silko’s death and who survives Jinx’s attack on the council chamber. In this respect, the fewer new champions the better until the current conflict plays out.
So how many champions should Arcane introduce each season to please League of Legends fans while avoiding the alienation of non-gaming viewers? Is two enough? Three too many? Do new heroes and villains have to wait until the conflict expands beyond the social divisions between Piltover and Zaun, if it ever does? Will viewers be content to stick with the current central characters, and is there room to shift focus as needed?
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
It’s easy to envision a path by which Arcane could navigate its own lore separate from League of Legends, using the existing worldbuilding as a guide rather than a bible. Knowing that it couldn’t possibly include even half of the champion lineup (nor would it want to), the show may choose to have them flit along the periphery in a series of recurring guest spots season to season. Given its excellent track record so far, confidence is high that the Netflix series can achieve the balance required even though season 1 set the bar very high, leaving the final verdict in the hands of the fans.

Whenever Jinx fought the Firelights she didn't want to hurt Ekko. She especially didn't want to kill him.
Instead, she made a doll of him in his Firelight get-up. She would throw the doll, stomp on it, stab it, or even shoot it to let her anger and frustration out.
Now that they've reconciled and are friends again, she remade the Ekko doll.
His hair is made from thick, white wools of yarn. His hourglass symbol was etched onto a bullet casing for his dreadlock cuff.
She sewed brown buttons for his eyes. She painted his face paint and used a marker for his smile. She drew his symbol on his apron with two blue and pink hearts.
It sits on her bed and she likes snuggling with it at night while she goes to sleep. She also has some polaroids on her dresser where she drew hearts around him.
----
Rock music lightly played on her record player.
Jinx sat on her bed and leaned against the headboard and ate fruit chews. She held the doll up while she admires her handy work.
"You're so cute. It's nice to finally say that to you." Her finger twirled around its hair.
"Although, the real guy is better. His eyes are beautiful. You're just a mini version of him. A mini Ekko...little man..." She gasped softly. "A mini man!" She beamed and then giggled.
"He's really cool. He's so smart and nice to me." She simpered at the thought of her best friend.
"He's also pretty and dreamy and handsome. I want us to be boyfriend-girlfriend type of friends. But he's my friend-friend. So, I can't really tell him all this." She repeatedly tossed the doll in the air and caught it.
"Mylo keeps teasing me, Claggor and Vander hardly say anything," She stopped tossing the doll.
"Silco hates Ekko. He loves me but he thinks I'm wasting my time..." A frown appeared as she stared at her lap.
I made the right choice, right? Coming here. He asked me to stay. He wanted me to.
I was just tired of being alone. I just wanted a friend and I missed him a whole lot.
"Things can be different."
"We won't know if things can turn out better if we don't try,"
That's what he said. Everything's been going great so far. I want to believe him but-
She scoffed softly and shook her head. This wasn't about them now. She was having a little fun before her downer thoughts crept into her brain.
"Sorry about that," She smiled sheepishly. "But anyway, you're nice. You're like the regular Ekko only that you don't talk. Your likeness is almost the same but not quite,"
She cracked a grin and held its stubby arm. "For starters, I can't replicate those biceps. Regular Ekko is a total hunk. I mean, hubba hubba!" She giggled, tossing the toy in the air.
She nearly dropped it when she heard a knock. "Hey, Jinx. You got a minute?"
Ekko.
Her heart wanted to sprout wings and flutter out of her chest. It wanted to meet face-to-face with the person responsible for causing it to feel this way.
Even though it was perfectly fine, she smoothed her hand over her hair. She wanted to make it neat just in case.
"I got hours!" She called. "I gotta go, mini man. The real one is here." She whispered. She adjusted the orange scarf around its neck and then kissed its cheek.
She hid the doll in the closet and then hid the polaroids in her nightstand drawer. She scanned her room to double-check for any missed Ekko-related memorabilia.
If that bomb didn't kill her, the embarrassment of him ever finding out about these things will surely finish her off.
She curtly nodded to herself when everything was cleared then opened the door.
"Got hours?" He chuckled heartily. "I like that. That's really good."
"Hm. Well, when you hang around a loser who has a magic stopwatch and makes time puns then it starts to rub off on ya." She smirked.

Metal lightly played in the early morning. Ekko was laying on her bed while he was reading a book.
Jinx sat at her desk painting her nails. The tip of the butterfly knife's blade was between her teeth like a toothpick.
"Shouldn't you leave before everyone knows their leader is a harlot?"Jinx teased, inspecting her nails.
Ekko grabbed his stopwatch from her nightstand "It's only 6:07 AM. I still have enough time."
Jinx waved her hand then turned around. "Ekko, come here. I gotta tell you something."
Ekko looked up from his book. "What is it?"
"Just come here."
"What are you bothering me for this time?"
"Nooooo! I said come here. It's important, Little man. Honest!" She whined, she reached out for him and opened and closed her hands.
Ekko rolled his eyes with a small smile.
She's so cute.
Ekko decided to relent and got up to hold her hands. He could have kept standing but mischief twinkled in his eyes, so he plopped on her lap.
"Damn, your ass is big." She groaned. "And that's a compliment. Don't ever feel bad about it." She grinned wryly with a wink.
Ekko shook his head and chuckled. "Alright. What do you have to tell me?"
"Sooo," She rubbed his leg then squeezed his outer thigh lovingly. "How's my baby girl doing?"
Ekko stared at blankly her before standing up.
Jinx laughed and quickly grabbed his arm. "Awww! Is the baby cranky?" She cooed.
"I changed my mind. I'm going to my room and I want my shirt."
She made a show of considering it by humming loudly while tapping the knife to her cheek. "No. It's mine."
"Yours?
"Yeah, it's the girlfriend rule. What's yours is mine. Therefore this shirt is mine."She explained. "Besides, you can't make me anyway." She challenged.
Ekko scoffed, "Is that so?"
She leaned back, her leg crossed, her teeth over her lower lip couldn't restrain her chesire grin.
Jinx yelped, her knife clattered to the floor when he picked her up and slung her over his shoulder,
"Put me down!"She said while hitting his back.
He glanced at her then and smirks wickedly, "Okay."
She exclaimed in surprise when he threw her on the bed and giggled as she bounced on it.
He straddled her waist and grabbed the shirt. "I just want my shirt, Jinx!"
"No! It's mine now you big baby!" She attempted to tug the shirt from his grip.
After two minutes of struggling, he ripped the shirt off her.
"Ha!" Ekko jeered and grinned triumphantly. He raised the shirt above his head when she tried to snatch it back.
He got off her and took a camisole out of her drawer. "Here. You have your own."
She snatched the aforementioned article of clothing and hit him with it.
"You're the worst! I thought you liked me in your things!" She groused while putting on her shirt.
"I do," He also put on his shirt.  "You look good. I just happen to look better in it."
Jinx gave him a pointed stare. "Oh my gods. Do you want to use my lipstick to kiss your ass?"
"Depends. How many shades you got?" He quipped. He guffawed after he narrowly dodged a pillow.
"I can't stand you sometimes, you cocky asshole." She laughed.
