Slowly but surely going to be making the cast for yet another project on the Sims buuut here they are the terror twins themselves, Amaranth and Alder McCrae: the two protagonists of Crossroads Library.

Amaranth (she/her; cis; pan/poly) is the elder twin by about 10 minutes. Actually played on her high school football team, and is now in college for music production, dreaming of being a famous musician with her own label. She's got a temper and enough bark and bite to ward off people who don't have her or her family's best interest at heart. Pure scary dog privilege. However, she's incredibly skilled at reading people and their emotions, and can be truly kind and loving deep down.

Alder (he/him; trans; bicurious) always seems to have a good poker face and a dry sense of wit to cover the crippling depression. That poker face comes in handy because you wrong him or his sister, or just decide to be a douchebag, he will set up the most elaborate pranks to ruin your entire week. And knows how to get away with it. He's also in college; he's changed his major 5 times now and is currently going with philosophy.

They live right above the family owned bookstore, the aforementioned Crossroads Library, with their Mom and Godfather/Uncle. Their Dad hasn't been in the picture in...well, years. Since they were 8, after their brother Ash unexpectedly passed away. They also each have a cat; Amaranth has a black cat with a white spot over his eye named Bowie, and Alder has a white cat with a black spot over her eye named Freddie.

hey lovelies! i know that you're all waiting on an update for OSD 5, and i js wanted to let you know that it's on its way! i've been so backed up with school these last few months, and it is now officially exam szn so i am extra extra busy, which is mostly why i haven't been on tumblr at all recently. but i do write whenever i can.

Why hello, anon! Sorry I'm a bit late responding to this, but I've been busy and every free time I've had I've been wanting to listen to music. I actually get why ppl do it now. (I know that sounds weird so there's a little backstory under the cut below if you want to know more.) Backstory is under the cut but here's the bands I've been listening to! Long story short it turns out I'm a metalhead. Apparently there's tons of genres of metal too and I've fallen in love with quite a few! 😁

I've got general heavy metal on the list, nu metal, power metal, symphonic metal, gothic metal, alt metal, and a couple hard rock bands sprinkled in. (I got another ask about this so for specific song recs go look at the ask I answered above this one 😊)

Amaranthe, Disturbed, Halestorm, Avenged Sevenfold, Five Fingered Death Punch (5FDP), Beast In Black, Within Temptation, Black Veil Brides, Bullet for My Valentine, Bad Wolves, Breaking Benjamin, Egypt Central, In This Moment, Pain, Shinedown, Three Days Grace, My Darkest Days.

That's just a few days exploration. In the tags I'm going to write a little musical analysis bc I know metal can be hard to get into but the usual qualms ppl have with it don't apply to a lot in these genres. For specific song recs see above!

Okay so basically my nerve disease makes it painful to listen to music. It's aggravating, so I never really had any motive to listen to it. What's more up till now I'd really not found any music I liked enough for it to be worth the pain. I did however know I liked my dad's music more than anything else, and he's a metalhead. This is going to sound so fucking stupid but I never explored much more metal bc I didn't 100% like what he listened to and I blindly assumed all metal was like that, forgetting that all bands have different sound, and guess what, there's apparently other genre's of metal! My dad listen's pretty exclusively to Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Black Sabbath and...I don't really like them. They are older and more traditional metal.

I lacked incentive to explore much bc it wasn't worth the pain, and with that in mind it makes sense it took me so long to find any music I actually liked bc I could hardly explore. I do however have a friend on here who loves music, and the way they talk about it inspired me and gave me motivation to try more so I could understand, and well last weekend I had been flaring for weeks so I got high, got bored, and decided to organize my Spotify and somehow I ended up going on a music bender for two days and turns out I'm a right metalhead, my dad just listens to traditional metal. I liked my dad's music better than other music, but it still wasn't giving enough. It wasn't going hard enough. Oddly enough the music I find both physically soothing and /fun/ to listen to is heavy heavy metal. The more extreme the better. My dad's music wasn't going hard enough for me lmao.

And it's weird I talked to my PT like "how does it make sense the music genre everyone else largely finds aggravating is fucking soothing for me?" And just like how ppl with ADD can find opposite things to "normal" soothing it's the same for me, my system is just callibrated differently. If I found most music aggravating you likely would not then play screamo but it works lmao, AND I have so much fun! Like I actually understand what ppl mean, I got up and danced, and some of the songs made me happy stim 🥺 I found my new favorite band (Amaranthe), and I listened to the song Viral like 25 times in two days (I actually injured myself from head banging too hard for the tenth time in one day 😂)

So yeah at first I didn't answer for days bc I was Lost In The Sauce for two days straight and then I was busy. I was having too much fun exploring more bands there wasn't time to answer 😅 But yay, headbangers for the win 😈🤟

Bio: Born in Talisun, Zadith to Gladiolus and Chryssa Silva.  She has 3 older siblings: Mullein, Delphinia, and Aster.  Each of her siblings have an elemental affinity, hers being fire.  When she was a teenager, she and her sister created dance routines incorporating their elemental magic into their performance.  They were hired to perform at the masquerade each year.  After a few years, her sister quit, but she continued to perform on her own.  Her aunt, who was also her namesake, lived in Vesuvia and owned a magic shop.  This aunt had very powerful precognition and aura sensing abilities, and she and Amaranth were very close.  When Amaranth’s aunt died of the plague, she left the store to Amaranth.

LI/RP  au: Amaranth didn’t die of the plague, and rather than lovers, she and Asra are good friends.  She participated in the ritual and received a mark on her stomach corresponding with her solar plexus chakra.  It allows her to amplify her magic abilities past their usual limits in exchange for temporarily taking on what she refers to as “burn.”  When she uses her mark, her body, starting with her hands and working up, becomes coated in magical, painful burns that go away eventually after a certain time without using magic.  If she uses magic at all while having burn, she takes more.  She is still trying to discover her destiny.

Ooo what about cuisine for dark elves and Redguards? 😛

We talked about it a bit in the discord yesterday, so sure!

DUNMER

Dark elf cuisine probably has some pretty stark contrasts between Ashlanders and the city Dunmer, and each house probably varies considerably as well.

Much like the Orcs or Nords, an ashlander diet is likely largely utilitarian in nature. The ashlands are a harsh environment but they’re probably very skilled in.

I don’t imagine ash yams have much flavor, they’re likely very neutral tasting and in need of a lot of spices and other flavors to help them along - potato bread made from ash yams could be a thing, esp for ashlanders! Rice is grown in saltwater marshes (hence the name saltrice) so that’s likely infused with a salty flavor by nature. And they’re clearly no stranger to eating bugs, like nix-hound, so that meat is likely used just as often as guar and other meats (perhaps more popular with Ashlanders and Redorans than the other houses?)

@tonal-modulator mentioned a headcanon that lot of Dunmer cuisine being very spicy based on their affinity for fire, and I love that idea so I like to think that Dunmer peppers are known for being the hottest in Tamriel.

A lot of the ESO Dunmeri food recipes contain melon and pumpkin, and of course the dunmer have a wide variety of alcohols - matze (a beer made from saltrice), shein (comberry wine) and sujamma (I think it’s another type of beer or ale based on it containing barley?)

EDIT: I forgot to mention that a lot of Dunmer crops also would need to be drought-resistant, and a lot of what we see in-game are! Melons, pumpkins, and yams are all low-water need crops, and saltrice of course is grown in marshes.

REDGUARD

Living largely in a desert region means that much of Redguard farming must rely on drought-resistant crops for what little arable land exists. Plenty of greens are drought resistant, like asparagus, chard, and okra. Many beans are also drought-resistant, so I like to think those might be the staple vegetables. As for grains, I bet amaranth is probably the most popular - it’s the hardiest grain I know of, very drought-tolerant, and bread made from amaranth flour is nutty and earthy in flavor - and the greens of amaranth are edible as well, making it a dual-purpose crop.

We see a lot of goats as livestock, likely because they’re smaller and need less in terms of grazing, making it easier to keep a large flock and still not use up all the available pasture. Goat’s milk and cheese is likely the most widespread, and for that reason goat might be the most popular meat choice - economical given what is available.

We also see some local specifics - Stros M’kai Grilled Seagull for example (efficient way to deal with the pests I suppose...) and Craglorn Skavenger Stew. In the more arid parts of Hammerfell there’s probably not much in the way of game, but more inland areas like Craglorn might contain more light grazers like antelope.

The climate isn’t quite right for sugar cane in a lot of places in Tamriel, but the sugar beet is drought tolerant and therefore might be used as a substitute in a lot of places! The process for making beet sugar is essentially cutting the beet, putting it in very hot water to draw out the sugars, then evaporating that and allowing it to crystallize.
