omg " A Sword Laid Aside" I every often think about that scene where Draco finds the dried flower he braided into Harry's (sexy) hair in the book :( My chest phyically hurts thinking about this.. Do you also have individual scene that you remember like this? The "Do you understand? I loved all of you." scene from Away Childish Thing is also a big one for me.

My heart, those are such great scenes! I agree, some fic moments are so charged/emotionally devastating it feels like my heart is beating out of my chest. I swear they come out of nowhere just to ruin us for our next read. As my darlings @tackytigerfic and @shealwaysreads put it, it’s the heart kick factor! I’m listing below some of my own favourites. It was hard to keep it short - just 12 scenes - but I tried my best.

Curiously, one of the fics I quote here (By the Grace) describes perfectly the kind of feeling I’m talking about: “When Harry imagined heartbreak, he still imagined an old cartoon of a heart literally breaking in half. The strange thing was that he felt that way now, as though his ribcage was opening, like the muscles of his chest were slowly sliding apart to make more space within, and yet it didn’t hurt—it was a sweet feeling, growing thicker and bigger and warmer and kinder.” That’s exactly how I felt after reading these for the first time. Anyone who wants to join and add theirs is more than welcome, I’d love to see your picks!

James’ expression was… intense when Regulus looked back at him.  “Can this be a date?  We had a whole meet cute and everything.”  Regulus blinked, processing the wild swing the conversation just took.

 

“I’m sorry, did you just ask me out?”  He replied, waiting for the punchline.  Weren’t they just making fun of his brother two seconds ago?

 

“I did.  I am.  You haven’t answered yet though.”  James said, keeping his gaze fixed on Regulus's flushed face.  “You should say yes, this would make an excellent first date.”

 

Regulus was just… what?  He felt like his brain was frozen, unable to process anything.  “Okay” he said before he even knew he was speaking.  He opened his mouth to take it back and then… didn’t in the face of James’ beaming smile.
