Chapter One is here!

And we finally meet our protagonist Oriolepaw! She and Linnetpaw were the first kits born after the formation of Duskclan by their mother, Haretail. She's got a thirst for knowledge and enough energy to last for days. I hope you all enjoy her as much as I do.

A lot of this chapter was me figuring out a workflow and the formatting I want to use for this project. If it isn't obvious already, a lot of my inspiration comes from Barrenclan (Which you should absolutely read if you haven't)

As most first chapters are, this is mainly setup and character establishing. But it won't be long until we start moving this story along! Feel free to send any asks my way if you've got any questions :)

My own little ThunderClan based on cats I generated.

This is a ThunderClan from several generations into the future where the clan is slowly dying due to lack of genetic diversity. All the senior warriors should have long since gone to the elders den but the lack of new blood has made them wary of retiring.

I don’t really intend to actually do anything with these guys, they’re here for the fun of making a whole clan.

Rainstar is by far the oldest cat not just in ThunderClan, but all the clans. He multiple lives keep her chugging on but they’re slowly dwindling. She’s the mother of Breezeseed and Haretail and the mentor of several of her own warriors due to lack of options.

Deputy Weedheart is Rainstar’s longtime friend and her first apprentice. She’s quite old and been through a lot in her life from serious illness to battles but she keeps on chugging, which is how she got her warrior name.

Haretail is the senior medicine cat, someone who spends her days gazing up at the stars trying to talk to Starclan and find signs more than in reality. She’s very air-headed and does her duties with a distant sort of apathy as she’s worrying about other things constantly.

Slowclaw is Haretail’s apprentice, though she’s quite old at this point. She was trained as a warrior beside her brother but took up the life of a medicine cat after overhearing a particular fit from Haretail out of duty. She thinks about her clan first before her own needs or desires, and keeps both Haretail and Lightningsun down to earth. She received her warrior name for her cautious and detail oriented approach to life.

Specklethorn was a former kittypet befriended by Rainstar and Weedheart and convinced to join the clans after they rescued her from her burning twoleg nest. She was already quite old and had been to the cutter. She is quite spry for her age and has never been sick.

Breezeseed is a blind queen who takes everything in strides. She is the mother of Slowclaw and Lightningsun and has a bad habit of indulging her sun’s fantasies of grandeur as if he were still a kit. Though she wishes to retire she remains a warrior to support her mother and keep the younger warriors in line.

Owlfeather is the best hunter in the clan and Lightningsun’s best friend. He finds Lightningsun hilarious and encourages his delusions to see what he will do next. He is close to his older brother Mothear, after he was saved from a trap by him, and accompanied his brother to ShadowClan to save his nephew, Cloverkit.

Supposed future-hero Lightningsun is the youngest warrior, who thinks that he’s destined to save the clans due to some omens Haretail told him about when he was a kit that not even she remembers. He gets into quite a bit of antics in this quest, which are encouraged by his best friend Owlfeather and chastised over by his sister Slowclaw. 

The only nursery residents is Mothear and his son, Cloverkit. His mate died after giving birth, and the lack of queens in ThunderClan forced him to bring his son to ShadowClan for the first two moons of Cloverkit’s life. He is thankfully supported by his younger brother and the two recently returned.

I’m actually not even gonna bother with SkyClan cuz it’s kind of a lost cause anyway. So let’s do some RiverClan renames!

Podlight > Podleaf

I don’t even know exactly what “Pod” is referring to. AirPods? A juul pod? Anyway, I’m assuming it’s like a plant pod so -leaf just sounds better than light.

Shimmerpelt > Shimmerfin

Again, no problem with the original name, just the fact that the name was in CP. SO, I gave her a suffix seemingly unique to RiverClan! I was gonna name her Shimmerstream but that seems too sue-ish.

Softpelt > Softfern

-pelt is just way too trivial for this name and kinda like the equivalent of naming Sweetpaw “Sweetheart”. Softfern sounds pretty so

Harelight > Haretail

Aaah ugly ugly name! I’m giving him Haretail cuz I’m gonna headcanon that he’s a white American Bobtail. Also I just hate the “-light” suffix.

Dappletuft > Dapplefur

A mediocre name for a mediocre dude. Plus Duskfur is now the only -fur in the Clan so someone’s gotta take the fall.

BACKSTORY:

Wolfcoat grew up living in alleyways. With his mother Rain and his two littermates Piper and Cloud. He doesn’t remember very much from his kittypet days, he only knows that his mother told him that his kittypet name was Smoky. One night Cloud started coughing, becoming very sick. Cloud passed away and Wolf and Piper were the only ones left. His mother decided to move and travel to the forest because of better food. There was a huge blizzard while they were traveling. Sadly, Piper died from hypothermia, now it was only him left. They beat the storm and find the forest where they rest for the night. But his mother didn’t realize they were very close to a fox den. Two foxes came out and started to attack. Wolfcoat got his right ear bitten off by one of the foxes and then ran to hide in a bush. His mother fought the foxes the best she could but they killed her. So now it really was him left. He mourned for his mother and then ran away from there. He still remained in the forest but quickly learned how to hunt and fight by observing clan cats from a distance. When he was all grown up, one day, he saw Haretail fall into the rushing river and dove in and pulled her out. She thanked him and then they became friends. They met in secret with only Haretail’s sister knowing. As they started meeting more they quickly fell in love and Wolfcoat decided to join Fawnclan so that they could be together. Haretail brought him to Fawnclan so he could join but at first, they didn’t let him in. The next day there was an earthquake and the cats fled. Haretail was running when a huge crack opened and she hanged on the edge. Wolfcoat stayed with her and pulled her up. Suddenly the quakes stopped. Fawnclan thought that it was a sign from Starclan, telling them that they want him to join the clan. They thanked him for saving her and let him join. And he became Wolfcoat.

I probably need to update his story because some of it doesn’t make sense lol. Also when I first made Wolfcoat I subconsciously made him sort of like Crowfeather lol.
