Many reasons why I chose to make the way it is are cause hehehehe

-I didn't like Roxy at first because off that funko leak being a reused model of Foxy. So I made her a hyena recolor using his model because I think they're cool, yet I still kept the fact she's the shortest because of Foxy in fnaf 1 being the shortest!!! And it did sorta happen with her being his replacement 😭She has short hair because I think one of her main appeals would be she would change up her hair every other week.

-Freddy is a moon bear because I miss Lefty. Also cuz I thought Fazbear Ent developed enough technology so that they could change colors during the night/dark like in the posters making them blacklight/neon. Also once again I miss Lefty and Also Nightmare. He had blue eyes freaky like that because I think FazEnt was developing new technologies to recognize guests by having their main stars test them out. And it did happen in the game so yay!!!

-I genuinely didn't think Bonnie would show up because off the leaks but at the time everyone designed their own version off him and so did I!!! I made him white and brown as a homage to Vannys help wanted mask. The blue streaks in his hair also relates to my Vanessa design. Reasons for this is because with how advanced the AI it was to trick them into thinking they were eachother friends. Why because the heartbreak would've been catastrophic.

-Chica didn't change much but I added brown because I love the color brown it is my top 1 color with purple following behind. Also because I love gradients I fucking love gradients you bet your ass if I add gradients I could <333 She has feather hair like that because off Big Bird I saw in a short fnaf sesame street horror yt video and that scared and gave me nightmares because of this one scene of a lady giving birth to his kid??? Idk it scared me alot. She's my favorite tho <3333

-Monty didn't change except he had circular glasses because I wanted him to match with Roxy as the newest additions to the Fazbear brand!!! Also man I wish one of them was a drummer but I couldn't decide between if Roxy or Monty would get it. I also didn't know Roxanne would be racing and gave her rock climbing. Reasons cause imagining her chasing you being able to climb walls would be scary. My only wish Is that I made his snout longer I want you to be able to hold it like a weapon

-They all have eyelashes because I think that is epic!!!

-Freddy is the tallest. Bonnie and Chica are the same height and Roxanne is the shortest

Might redraw them in my oc world version (if anyone would be interested it's basically also a robot story with my old fnaf oc's now turned rivals to Fazbear Entertainment) and not simplified but my other wips need me they are calling for me they are telling me to finish them and I must!!! Probably

They would've fought with my pink yellow blue Vanny design!!! Which is the only one I redesigned because I love Vanny to much... You can see her pre-design here and oughh Pink Vanny <3333

-If you look closely Vanny has a Dino looking tail!!! And that's because I thought hey imagine each time we defeated an animatronic she'd sew a piece off their body onto her suit! So when we killed Monty she'd scavenged and get his tail!!! With Chica she got her chicken feet!! And with Roxanne she gets her teeth!!!

-Why because I associate her with Pinkamena cupcakes so much. Also to add onto my previous statement with Bonnie looking like her old mask. She changed her suit in the final act to solidify herself as the bad guy (final boss) who had been using the animatronics for his own gain.

-Man I never draw Chica with her head bow now that I think abt it same with Vanny's whiskers god what was I thinking!!!

Hey I saw some Macaque fanart that looked eerily similar to yours and just wanted to let you know (I might be making a deal of nothing but yeah I'll include a screenshot of the art):

Alright so.

1: This is likely someone who is doing screenshot redraws from the same images I did that came from a published show that is accessible to millions.

2: Tracing is actually a great way to learn.

Now, credit should be given obviously but there is a huge stigma from folks online about tracing. I can almost promise you that some of your favorite artists out there will look at a work they like and go 'how did they do this?'

Best way to get into the head of another artist? Trace it.

I've done traces of other artists that I admired and honestly I learned a lot from doing so. Did I post these or ever claim them as my own? Absolutely not, that is when you're stealing.

Thousands of professional comic artists, or almost every skilled artist you can think of has traced. This little waltz is like a baby bird taking its first haphazardly drunk steps across a ice pit. We call them screenshot redraws today, but in the fine arts spectrum, they're called Master Studies.

Because you're looking at someone who has already accomplished something and you want to see how they did it, how you can apply it, and how you as an artist can grow.

The beauty of art is that we can take aspects of things we like and add onto our own work. Its an amalgamation of influences that compound together to create the concept we call an artist. I love seeing where people draw their inspiration from.

3: Personally, I think that it's good that this person is taking some steps into digital and learning. Looking at the line weight and the way they use their tools it seems that they're still learning how they want to navigate the digital platform. This is a great way for them to improve an if they had, allegedly, used my images at reference then I'm honored they saw something to admire in it!

The fact that they practiced at all is way more than I can say for others that say they want to improve but don't put the effort in.

4: Now, final point here.

In the future, please do not come to me like this.

I appreciate you trying to give me a heads up, but I'm not going to sit here and reprimand or police people. This kind of message to me feels like a rather deliberate attempt to stir up drama, which if it was not your intention and you genuinely were just looking out for me, I appreciate you trying. The way I see it though, reporting people like this or going after what may very well be kids trying to learn creates a toxic mentality that I don't want anything to do with. I've been there, done that, and been on the receiving end of that nastiness.

I've learned a lot through my time online and the big lesson sometimes is just to let people do what they're gonna do.

Seriously though, who ever did this has a very cute style. I like the smile headshot there in the middle.

BOBA AU - CHAPTER 1 EXTRAS

I had actually drawn a few more things than could fit within the 30-image-per-post limit. Here are the ones that didn't make the cut, with commentary!

(tw: mild animal abuse, n*zi mention, suggestive themes)

Zilch's animal companions. I named Carmina Burana and Tortellini, Gucci and Bosch were named by my friends - though Bosch was supposed to be called Hieronymus, it just didn't fit on the nametag lol

I wanted to illustrate some examples of Zilch casually mistreating/neglecting the animals but this was as far as I got. I don't think he would be a full on animal abuser, just... the type of person who likes having a bunch of pets to show off but doesn't really think about properly caring for them. He likes the aesthetics of animals much more than the logistics.

This was gonna be the chapter cover and I forgot. Oops.

This was just practice drawing the church characters from their sprites.

Zilch: I must say, it's an unexpected pleasure to run into another kindred spirit around here. I'm Zilch~

This scene was actually cut deliberately. I drew it before I decided exactly what the Nun's issue with Zilch would be and then once I did, I felt like it didn't fit anymore. Zilch is still excited to see someone else with ears and tail like him, but in the final version, he's a lot more derisive about it.

I imagine the Nun is, like, an actual animal-human hybrid whereas Zilch is a furry with a wallet that can afford bioengineered bodymods. (One day, my friends... one day...)

Zilch being flippant and Halara being dismissive/tsundere. Couldn't really find a place to put it but I still like the drawing - even if I did accidentally give Zilch human ears.

By the way, you might notice Zilch hasn't been wearing his cap. There are two reasons. One is to show off that his ears aren't actually connected to it. If I had the time to go back and redraw the prologue with him wearing it - so Halara's "holy fuck" reaction makes more sense here - I would. (Not really worth trying to fix though, not until the rest of the story is done.)

But the other reason is that upon looking closer at Zilch's original design, I thought it was a little too evocative of Nazi imagery and wasn't really comfortable with it. It's not really the same style of hat, sure, but combined with the swastikas in his eyes??? yeah no way is that not intentional. (I redesigned his eye symbols to be catlike slit pupils instead.)

I get he (or, the hitman, I guess) is supposed to be a villain, and a minor one, in the original game... but here I'm gonna flesh him out a bit more. So I guess in that sense the removal of the hat symbolizes his growth as a character beyond his terrible awful fascist upbringing lol (more on that in the Gumshoe Gabs soon)

If I were making this an actual game it would be fun to have Yuma get a fun little added gameplay element of using Zilch's Forte like he does with Halara's. He gets some little animal friends!!!

I imagined Zilch would ask to be carried, but Halara won't do it without getting paid an exorbitant amount. And then Zilch forks over the cash on the spot. Yuma screams internally. If he had that the whole time why were they even trying to negotiate over the coat???!? Why does he still have his own debt to pay if Zilch could just cover the whole thing up front????

Halara has to pretend not to be enthusiastic about this opportunity.

Was originally gonna have Seth say that out loud but then I remembered he doesn't want to lose his job. (It's okay, he loses it anyway.)

And then the mystery is solved!

Zilch feels indebted to Halara for saving him from the Nail Man, and wants to follow their example, turn it around, treat his animals better... his act of goodwill here is extremely performative, though. But, hey, everyone's gotta start somewhere!

Ultimately I cut this scene after coming up with the cat bed idea. (Was very tempted to have Halara cruelly taking the coat from the boy, but just decided to skip it instead.)

So Zilch kinda idolizes Halara now... which is fine... but then the morning after he really lets his simp flag fly.

Congrats on your furry boyfriend, I guess?????

I'm not dead!

Hey look here's a redraw of the really terrible bit of digital art I did for last year's Mar13 day as proof! Apparently I didn't even finish the first one on time! Yikes!

I'm well aware that it's been a minute or two since I last posted anything on here or on AO3 - to be more precise, it's been since Splatoon 1 died and I wrote that 8000 word depressing thing - I don't know why 8000 words always seems to be my sweet spot, but it's good to know that I have one. That being said, and with Side Order: Dark Side Mix currently MIA, I thought it'd be a good idea to to have what it is that I'm doing right now on-record in some capacity, for the one or two people who were wondering.

The next few weeks are exam season, so I don't think it's going to be smooth sailing per se, but Dark Side Mix will be completed. After running into a snag with the opening act - namely with the fact that it sucks - I started reworking the entire fic from top to bottom under a new name...and then I lost motivation to do that because perfectionism set in, and I haven't really touched it in a little while.

In the time that I've been away from it, I feel like I've become increasingly aware of how that perfectionism negatively effects me and my work - namely the fact that very little of it actually exists. I mean, sure, people seem to like the stuff that does exist, but there isn't much, and a lot of things are unfinished - usually because I placed too much value on the potential of "the idea", and spent so long labouring over the start of it that by the 10,000 word mark I had realised the flaws of the idea and lost interest in it.

I can't help thinking that's a bit lame. Every other writer has 100s and thousands of words of terrible amateur works they can go back to and laugh at, before they created the masterpieces they're known for now, and my story is that I just kinda show up every once in a while.

I think there's a real beauty to that - creating for the sake of creation, with no fucks given. Maybe this isn't the finest example, but I finally started listening to My Dad Wrote a Porno recently and...I mean... the sheer lack of fucks given is well and truly a gift that keeps on giving. Same goes for Philosophy of the World. Or SMG4 back in like 2014. Or old Eddsworld stuff. There's just a certain carefree joy (or existential dread in the case of the Shaggs) to it all that you never get anywhere else. It's like the difference between a 30 second gesture drawing and 6 hours of carefully-deliberated-over anatomy.

All that is to say - Dark Side Mix is a fundamentally flawed story. It is not high art, it never will be. I should probably just get it out there in it's entirety for the world to see in the time I have available to write, and then move on to the next "brilliant-idea"-that's-actually-just-ok. Nobody likes an "idea guy" - what good is it to spend one's entire life going around saying "I never finished this story, but it was great in my head, and the bit that you can actually read was alright too,"? Creativity should be about getting in there, making a mess, and having fun - let fanfiction be fanfiction, with that being addressed to nobody but myself, because nobody else needed to hear it.

Oh, also, another reason for my absence besides creative block and exams - I'm getting into comics! That, and practising my art fundamentals a whole bunch - I don't think my drawabox is particularly interesting to look at, so I haven't exactly been posting it. I've decided that I want to try giving an idea I had for what would've been another depressing Squid Sister 8000-worder the comic treatment, although you shouldn't expect to see that anytime soon, considering how long it's gonna take, and the fact that I would want to release something like that in no more than two parts.

2020 vs 2024

You might be wondering, why the weird coloring? Uhm, so bc the first piece is monochrome EXCEPT FOR THE SHOES i thought,

"Hey so the shoes colors are apparently important, Let's have it as an accent color to a monochromatic orange one in the redraw as well!"

And ngl it does look ok. hopefully not too weird.

So for those who have followed my account, you remember Lunar?

like- my Lunar from the AU where Eclipse is a demon thing named One?

It's that guy in the top right, yeah Lunar. Well back then, like a few months ago or something, I made my first little concept/art of this specific Lunar.

Back when Lunar was still on Eclipse's side, Eclipse would heavily experiment on Lunar in order to make Lunar a powerful fighter, someone to protect him if Moon ever resorted to violence. One of these experiments involved Eclipse using dark magic on Lunar to make him more powerful. It did, but at what cost?

Of course the story changed a bit by the time I started drawing this SAMS adjacent AU over and over again. Lunar is no longer the result of experiments, like in the SAMS Canon Lunar was just Bloodmoon's more stable replacement. But I kept the fact that Eclipse used dark magic on Lunar, that dark magic being a curse that turned Lunar into-... well... I will let the old and pretty badly drawn picture show you:

Oof, one day I might need to redraw it to look less... I dunno it just looks cringe.

But yeah, using a curse scroll from another world, Eclipse turned Lunar into a demon. Later on Eclipse would put this same curse on himself to make himself stronger, only for it to manifest in a different way. While the curse became a part of Lunar, the curse made another personality inside of Eclipse, that personality being One

Yeah I feel like this AU is more unexplained and "beginner artist cringe" than my old OCs when I first found out what Gacha Studio was, eugh.

Heya! Apologies if you've already been asked this, but how did you come up with the names for the OW chars? And in general what was the process like for creating the main ensemble? No pressure though! just interested! I hope you're having an amazing day!

hey!! actually no one has ever asked this before LOL

iggy: iggy is a name i have loved forever after being obsessed with iggy koopa from the mario series for a while as a child LOL both the iggy from the games and the iggy from the live-action movie. i've always wanted to use it for something since and somehow it felt very fitting for OW's iggy ig alkdjfads

genzou: genzou was a name i researched specifically for OW after starting to work out his character. it was mostly done through looking up kanji and names and figuring out a combo that i thought felt fitting for him

orlam: orlam was the name of a char in an MMO i localized back when i worked for a game company. for some reason i got very obsessed with the char (to the point that i downloaded and played the MMO on my own personal time so i could reach the part way late in the game and see the stuff i had localized/the chars). i guess i just wanted to use the name again and somehow in my head it fit

gidget: gidget was the name of my mom's dog growing up LOL the dog was oft-referenced amongst the fam and i always thought it was just such a cute name, so i decided to use it

bucks: actually i have no idea i just like the name buck/bucks and have used both before in some of my other various stories so i felt like using it again, and then made up buxley as the full name to go with it because i thought that might be nice lol

hunar: hunar was another name i came up with through research and finding a name i thought felt fitting for his char

as for the process it's hard to say as some of them went through a variety of iterations (since i tried to make this game many times in many different ways) and i don't really remember all the initial stuff because it was years ago but they all kinda gradually evolved into what they eventually became in the game (and kept evolving even as i was working on it, as you can probably tell by how inconsistent their designs are in some of the early artwork LMAO i want to eventually go back and redraw some of the worst stuff... guh)

first appearance of survivor and hunter, i did them in an aggie with my kismesis... although i drew on half of the canvas,, survivor looks very disasterous here because i was struggling to give them the most "neutral" clothes (the lines on their skirt is the the survivor karma/symbol) (ill get to it in the next image

concept ideas for all of the symbols for the scugs, originally was going to also include the karma theyre associated with, but i quickly dropped that realizing how "complex" it would be on their designs, especially rivulets. you can actually still see this in monks design! their necklace still has the monk karma on it x)

more survivor outfit failures... i think this would look too weird for me + unconventional in an environment where they have to run around the world (thats why i gave most of them shorts/clothes that make them move better. except for saint of course.) also, survivor with this outfit looks like toriel LOL

i reeeeaaaaally disliked spearmasters older design. it looks uncomfortable. there was another one where they wore long black gloves and thigh highs (again, i did not like it so i deleted it and kept redrawing it.) sm also appears more spiky here, but the texture was too rough for me if that makes sense. i did not like the scarf either...

oh, yeah. i kept the artificer pose from this because it was too cool to let go !!! amazing considering i drew it with my finger on ibis paint haha

this is the sketch for the second bundle of the designs, again i borrowed the artificers pose from the previous one x)) nothing to say much other than this is where i redrew the spearmaster (i still did not keep their long cape still, you can still see it in this sketch though)

heres the third bundle... i changed the rivulets pose because they looked like they were holding in a pee........... saint looked too dramatic so i changed it too

speaking of saint, this is their older design, i didnt keep the long hair because i thought it looked a bit too silly. i still prefer the one with short hair! also rivulet has way more frills in this than their current design

and hey! speaking of rivulet, coming back to this. i kept changing their colors because something was bothering me and i couldnt figure it out! was satisified enough with the current one though

going back to saint again, i was going to make them have a pink robe but it blended in with the tongue too much so i made it orange instead! strawberry saint would be... very interesting though!

gourmand = "cool uncle" energy (i dont know how to explain it), silly, round shapes

artificer = dangerous, rough, unhinged, spiky shape

spearmaster = mysterious, elegant but still dangerous, agile, sharp shapes

rivulet = the "athletic dude" (gender neutral), bubbly (get it?), very long shape (i also made them the tallest scug due to how tall swimmers are the fastest)

saint = smirky, calm, quiet, cozy shape

id also like to mention this- the reason why hunters clothes are purple is because they are associated with nsh! not a detail that many people notice. also another thing that i put thd detail in, since monk and survivor are siblings i made their clothing styles similar to each other!!! the brainrot goes so hard!!!! i think thats enough rambling,, as i have many things to do..

I have been working on this for quite a while! It's a mass redraw of the cast portraits from my fanfic universe "Alt Marauders" that I did in 2021. I think I made a pretty big improvement for two years! I learned facial proportions, stopped with my massive noses (I was overcompensating for years of tiny anime noses, I'd found once I started drawing proper big noses they were SUPER FUN) and started drawing with thicker lines and line variation. Tried with some uptilted facial angles on the twins too! Didn't do so well with that but hey, future redraw material! While all the characters have dynamics with each other, I picked specific pairings to focus on for the portraits. Details under the cut if you're interested!

Shaw & Haven - The 'official' leaders of the group as appointed by X.avier, their extremely conflicting perspectives provide a lot of room for exploring different opinions between each other and the other cast members. Despite, or perhaps because of this, they develop a relationship focused around philosophical discussion, and Shaw does protect her---only because, of course, it would look terribly bad if the human liaison died on HIS watch! Shin & Pyro - The "fun" of the crew! Their lackadaisical ways and love of carousing bring them together, but there's a deeper element to it as well. Pyro hints he had a lonely childhood in the canon Marauders, and we know that Shin did, and both came from single-parent households---Shin raised by his mom, Pyro by his grandma---and probably have some issues feeling rejected by one (Shin) or both (Pyro) parents. And Pyro def dislikes Shaw in our version, so he's on Shin's side against him immediately despite not knowing all the details for some time. M.adelyne P.ryor and C.laudine R.enko/Miss S.inister: Maddie and Claudine have a complicated and evolving dynamic. Both are victims of S.inister, both have had their agency under assault, and both have been villains in their own right because of it. But while M.addie's was done under demonic influence, Claudine's was a choice made in full control of herself, and it involved children. Claudine was ready to take over the body of L.aura K.inney to save herself from being taken over by S.inister, and as someone who has struggled with agency and identity and having that taken from her, M.addie can't abide this when she finds out. As for Claudine's feelings on this...honestly, I'm still figuring that out. Alice, M.anon, and M.axime - In the aforementioned story with Laura, C.laudine is cloning a young girl named Alice over and over. Alice seems to have the memories of her previous clones who have died, so likely this was part of her developing the process by which she would take over Laura. We never see Alice again so I thought I'd bring her back. . .or a new her. M.anon and M.axime are another pair of kids I wish we'd seen more of, and have some serious issues of their own. These three aren't regular cast members but would show up in the story enough I wanted to draw them, if only because, hey, no one else will! Alice finds them sus, which, uh, well, they are. But it's also not really their fault and they do need help. I switched her sideeye from M.axime in the first to M.anon in the redraw since she seems the more deliberate of the two in her behaviors.

easy questions first: for digital art i use a wacom intuos tablet and paint tool sai, which is the only setup i've ever used. i've been trying to get into clip studio paint but something about it just doesn't stick with me. i think i need more practice.

for comic panels and lettering i use adobe indesign, and export as png to before putting them in sai.

i've been drawing ever since i was a kid, but until middle school i mostly just drew animals or little notebook paper comics about animals. i grew up on a farm so there were lots around, and drawing from life is something i think really helped. like, there's a difference between knowing what a cat looks like and being able to pick one up and see how its bones and muscles fit together, being able to watch it change how it moves around depending on what it's doing, whether it's catching a mouse or playing with another cat or curled up asleep, and being able to break down that anatomy and movement into simple shapes. i'm a pretty visually oriented person so knowing how a thing functions or fits together as simple shapes helps me visualize it in my head and imagine how it would look in different poses or from different angles.

around middle school i moved onto drawing people, again from life while sitting in a cafe or at a park. actually being able to get what's in my head down onto paper in a way that satisfies me is something that i think just took practice. only recently (like, late last/this year) have i been consistently satisfied with the way i draw things.

sorry if that sounds weird or clinical--this is the first time i've been asked to explain how i learned to draw and this is the best way i can think to say it.

honestly, finding my own style has been looking at what i like about other artists' styles and trying to figure out how they achieved that. i did a lot of redraws of other peoples' art as a kid. for me, trying to replicate something makes me really think about why i like the way it looks. i try to lean towards a semi-realistic style--i don't like drawing super realistic all the time, i love cartoons and think they have a lot of character--but i also don't want to lose the underlying anatomy or structure because it helps my brain make sense of stuff. so i try to find the middle of the road, where things are simplified but still structured, if that makes sense.

brief tangent... that's why i draw pokémon the way i do. they're not on model, they're how i imagine they would look if they were real animals, based on the sort of animals they're... uh, based on. so like for this piece, because camerupt is a cow/camel hybrid, i looked at a bunch of pictures of cows laying on their sides, what their hooves and skulls looked like from certain angles, etc. and then i could draw what i wanted.

as for improvements, i need to get better at backgrounds and realistic coloring/lighting. color theory is one of those things that i understand... well, in theory, but when it comes to practice and paying attention to it when i color, i need work. and because i've mostly drawn animals and people my whole life--organic stuff--i find buildings and backgrounds difficult, so i tend to avoid them. and i need to not do that.

Octo and Anemone are two of the biggest goobs in all of Goonya Monster so I said hey let's draw them together. The Octo picture is actually a screenshot redraw as seen below:

I forgot how much I love Toad's spooked/freaked out face he makes in Goonya Monster to the point I said hey, I have to draw him freaked out. Gave me another shot at drawing Null's Yoohooed design for him as well.

Every Monster needs someone or something to look after or calm them down. In the case of Pirarucu, it's her stepbrother Clione. She always feels calm and controlled when he's around her since after all, she has fully warmed up to him and embraced his presence. I figure these two would have wholesome moments like this when she's Pirarukaiju and all, so this idea was born afterwards!

Clouded leopard Octo, corsac fox Pirarucu, and fennec fox Clione all belong to me(GaiaKoraidon); capuchin Toad and lemur Anemone belong to @dragoningachahell(@whentheorcinusbeorca)who also did the Pirarukaiju design too.

seems to me that the whole 'criticism of the gods' debate/discussion/argument is oversimplifying something that people wrestle with on the daily (both in D&D terms and in our real world). it's one thing to philosophically ask 'what have the gods done for me personally lately?' that is normal and healthy. it's even normal and healthy to be bitter, to an extent, about the gods: 'hey, my loved one was sick and i prayed for their healing and restoration to full health and my prayer was ignored; meanwhile Bernice down the street didn't pray for shit and got an inheritance of seventy platinum from her great-great-uncle. what the hell?!' i would even go so far as to say it is completely understandable for that bitterness to coalesce into full-on hatred for the gods, where one says 'all right, Pelor, i did all the rituals and said all the things and i did everything i was supposed to and i heard crickets. fuck you and fuck your brethren, i'm out.' and then you never visit a temple or pay homage again in your life.

but it is quite another to take your own bitterness and bile and make it everyone else's problem on such a level that it fucks up the fundamentals of magic, Ludinus.

i'm not saying anything what hasn't been said before (and by folks far more eloquent than i), especially in the past two weeks. but no matter how much criticism is levied at the gods, they are still being criticised and questioned through a very mortal lens, frameworks shaped by religion in the Exandrian understanding. religion wasn't created by the gods; it was created by mortals in an effort to understand something (someones) so vast and powerful that the mortal mind wibbled uncomfortably around the edges when looked at full-on. so folk set down 'rules' as they understood them, dogma and schema so their brains didn't quiver like custard when they went to sleep at night. and that's fair! the gods are older than time and earth and wind and mountains! mortal brains don't function too well when there are no limits, so we create them. consequently we criticise through those limits, and get fed up and cheesed off when the gods don't follow those statutes we set up for them.

i think that is one of the big sticking points that continually pops up in the 'gods: yea or nay?' debate, the real question of are we criticising a god, a pillar of physics and nature and reality, or are we getting pissy because said god is operating outside the box we so carefully drew for it? are we upset that we might have to redraw rituals and frameworks of worship, throwing thousands of years of 'understanding' into the bin? how much does that possibility scare us, the notion of having to amend or even start over?

because the fact of the matter is, what the Exandrian gods have shown us canonically is that, even when you do All the Things, Cross the T's and Dot the I's and do the Proper Hokey-Pokeys...sometimes the gods can't be arsed. sometimes they don't listen. is it because Melora has it out personally for you, a farmer whose crops didn't yield as expected? or is it because she doesn't play by your particular set of rules?

or maybe it's because you're not that special, Ludinus. maybe we are just batteries for them. maybe we aren't. maybe we'll understand all of this about seventeen years after the Matron has shuffled us through the veils of death to wherever we're supposed to go.

Hey Sea!! Happy New Year! I love the atmospheres you create in your art! The beautiful color palettes capture the mood so well 🥰 I’m still absolutely obsessed with your Oda Wanderer above the Sea of Fog artwork it’s so wonderful! What are your favorite pieces you created this year?

Hi Sable!! Happy New Year to you too, apologies for only just seeing this; this was so kind of you to send and really lovely to see in my inbox!!

I didn't manage to make a whole lot of art last year, but I am pleased with the ones I did manage to make. I think above all of them, my favourite would have to be the piece I did for Dazai's birthday! I really enjoyed creating this piece, I had been struggling to feel motivated and inspired as an artist for a short while prior to making it, but for some reason the process for that one flowed very organically for me and I'm still very pleased with the end result! I think it embodies a lot of my goals as an artist regarding emotion and atmosphere, and was a suitable homage to both the character and the writer.

Another that stands out for me is my art of Ranpo from the Untold Origins light novel. This piece is quite a dark and personal one, but I think the end result is very evocative and dips into the waters of abstraction which I have been rather keen to explore through my artwork. I believe I have improved technically quite a bit since sharing that art (almost exactly a year ago!) and I sometimes grimace at the messier aspects of it, but I think it conveys a raw and specific emotion that ended up speaking to not only me, but a lot of the people who saw it - which was certainly a pleasant surprise.

Also, seeing as you mentioned it, I feel really pleased with the piece I shared most recently of Oda! I really enjoy creating art that is referential to pieces from art history (and Sable, I really see you as a master of this in the bsd fandom asfdgsdfgs - I still haven't recovered from your Soukoku redraw of The Fall and I believe I'm behind on some of your recent works!!) - this was my first time really sharing one and drawing it was very fun and engaging. The Dark Era and similarly the relationship between Dazai and Oda are two of my favourite things about Bungou Stray Dogs, so I wanted to acknowledge this in a meaningful way, while also working on improving my handling of composition. I put a lot of symbolism into that illustration and it was also nice to pander to my interest in graphic design while doing so by making it look like a mock-up for a poster or book/movie cover. The direct reference to the Friedrich painting came rather naturally - it feels fitting for Oda's character, particularly during that specific arc. Similarly, the visual of Dazai's hand reaching out was a direct nod to the anime, and the instance of Dazai doing so not long before the culmination of the narrative. It's a moment that struck me personally when I watched it, and resonated with me enough to depict it like this; it perhaps adds another layer of meaning to the artwork when one considers it to be from the perspective of Dazai.
