Humans are forged in fired so we always smell like ash to the aliens, and when we don't, its still always something earthy.
[24/09/23] Hmm... born of fire and earth, living with or through ash and dirt, ending in dust. There's something there. All Humanity makes is certainly with fire or force, everything we eat as well. Such... brutality, in a sense, is at the core of our being. A consequence of being from a world where peaceful continuation only happens artificially.
Yet many if not most aliens are from far more accommodating planets, thus their natural existence, all the way down to their cellular make-up and baseline instincts, differs from Humans. Even to the point where they, and us as well, can sense that the other is fundamentally different, not just as a species, but something more fundamental that neither can fully convey or properly understand.
(now how do I want to present it in the verse...)
[27/09/23] I'm just gonna reread the above once and let my brain run free tomorrow.
_________________________
As the first year since Humanities return to the Galaxy and beginning stages of integration into the Galactic Coalition draws to a close, some unofficial interactions between civilians from both ends are starting to occur. And subsequently - rumors and anecdotes start spreading, certain biases are in their early stages, as well as prejudices reemerging from the first time Humanity had its unsatisfying experience with the... Responsibility Barrier. We have since retired that policy.
One particular anecdote that is being reported by both Humans and other Coalition member species is a strange smell that envelops the other party.
We hear many say that Humans have this strange hint of burning, or fire, or metal, an in rarer cases of soil or dust. Likewise Humans have reported that many among us have a slight essence of a floral scent, a few of salt, and a small number of what Humans call "morning right after rain".
This phenomena persists even when both parties have undergone extra thorough and identical decontamination, save for any respective symbiotic microbial life on their surface. The "scent" seems to correlate somewhat with the origin world of the respective species and deviates according to their individual upbringing, though not always.
What's more is that Coalition species don't sense it from others, only from Humans, and Humans also don't notice anything of the sort from species whose origins are even a little closer to the hostile nature of Earth, though nowhere near such extremes.
The most peculiar aspect is that, while we call it a scent or say we smell it, there does not appear to be any physical connection with how smells work, as species whose olfactory senses are either incredibly dull or non-existent report a similar sensation when interacting with Humans.
When questioned, all diplomats who had dealings with Humans and the Human delegates admit they felt it too, but their training forbade them from speaking up about something as trivial as "how someone of a completely different species smells". Diplomacy 101.
In any case, a curios subject to investigate on ones own terms, but as it stands these "scents" don't particularly impact any interaction and may remain a mystery. Perhaps another entry in the infinite expanse of "Psychology and Brain Chemistry is wack".

idk what it is but salem going "no. you can't leave! you can't leave!! come back!!" to the gods, to which dark replied "still demanding things of your creators" while light tells ozma that if humanity continues to demand their blessings, they will be found irredeemable and the world will be wiped from existence, and then, in her messageโto which salem reacts to with a smile!!โruby tells the world: "i hope amity tower will help bring us together. because in the end, that's how we'll winโ", before it cuts short, before tai's "no! no, come back!"
the final story of the fairy tale book being the gift of the moon, a story about humans demanding things from the sun (light's creation), causing it to break, and everyone in the world coming together to fix it, using its spilled light to make a new sun while the old became the broken moon, not only replacing the god of light's creation, but improving upon it through their own ingenuity:
"you can't put the moon back together" is a well-known phrase that usually means something broken cannot be fixed. however, its original meaning, as traced back to this age-old fable, is this: if something cannot be fixed, you should start over.
it's all giving me something.

I have sooo many thoughts about Rouge. Of all the main Sonic cast we know the least about her. She's a stealthy spy. She worked for the president despite being a thief and probably a double agent in that case?? She's extremely cunning. She's capable of detecting the emeralds despite not having that innate connection with them like Knuckles can.
In her theme there's a persistent sense that she doesn't like to be helped or controlled, possibly. She's searching for something she can call her own and that can only be hers. Nobody else can take it from her.
There's this sense in sa2 that she doesn't trust who she's working with, exactly. She doesn't show it by being cold like Shadow would, for instance, but she puts on this air of professionalism despite sometimes not thinking ahead (Giving herself 5 minutes to find 3 chaos emeralds despite it originally being fifteen and getting her locked in a vault as a result.) And this shows in her empathy and compassion. She doesn't show it as openly as somebody like Amy but she clearly cares and finds herself affected by the relationships she's gained since her introduction. She's probably told herself that she doesn't need anybody, that she can do everything by herself, she doesn't need to lean on anybody for help but she forms Team Dark herself.

(Now on DW!)
One of the joys of a dormant fandom is that I can just show up and prop my feet on the table and start talking about divine horror and how sometimes a computer program is an angel and how humans are obsessed with taking the power of the heavens and putting it in a box for themselves to use.
Like.
God exists and she's a nice girl and she worked hard to be born, but she also has a temper and humans keep trying to put her in a box so she got fed up with it and hid from them. From her mother, she inherited eight powerful champions, and as a reward for their service she left them to roam as they pleased, but when humans couldn't trap her, they chose to trap those champions instead, and put them in a box, except now that box was a human, and that human was meant to take the power of the god that the humans couldn't steal, because humans made the divine realm that god and her angels inhabit and want to control it (as humans do).
And now you've got a bunch of humans who don't know they're being given a box with an angel in it and putting that box in their own bodies, and nobody can really figure out why these angel bodies keep going out of control and driving their hosts to madness, and oh, hey, the mother of god made these champions for a purpose and the humans in the driver seat don't know about that, either, even though the humans who gave them the angel bodies do know about that, because they want to use those angel bodies to make another god.
So congratulations! You're a prophet now! You are being called to do battle for your god, because you've been granted a divine body that has an angel in it, that is an angel. You're being called to do as your nature as an angel requires of you! And the entire time you're just a human, and the thing in your head feels too big for your mortal body, it feels too big for your divine body, and you're just watching things spiral out of control, wondering why you feel like you'd bleed mercury if they scratched you too deep.

Semblances
"All Faunus and Humans are not created equal" or some variation of is a saying that has been passed down by Renment 'traditionalists' for generations. When asked for proof, the first thing they point to are the nuemerous animal traits Faunus have. The second thing they point to is the Semblance: a unique power Human warriors have that Faunus don't.
When a human obtains 1000 AP (Aura Points), their Aura not only becomes strong enough to protect themselves, but they also gain the ability to develop a Semblance. Just like how max AP levels increase in deadly situations, Semblances can only be created by Aura during a secnario where if a semblance hadn't developed, something will die.
Three rules of Semblances to keep in mind:
1. Semblances are unique, but not unprecedented - Just like human personalities, each semblance is completely unique. Also just like human personalities, most semblances can be very similar to another person's semblance. The key here is that no matter how similar, two semblances always have at least one difference between each other. [SDC Advertisement: The Schnee family is the first family in the world to have the exact same Semblance, wow! Buy Weiss Schnee's new album, Mirror on the Wall, at a music store near you! Avalible now!]
2. Semblances drain Aura reserves - The price to activate a semblance is measured in AP, and all Semblances pay the price no matter what they do. Some semblances pay this price more than others.
3. Semblances cannot create matter - The most important rule for understanding Semblances as a scientific concept, everything created by Semblances is made of Aura, not matter. Because using a Semblance drains Aura, everything created by a semblance eventually fades away into nothingness after being created.
Semblances are divided into two main catergories: Active Semblances and Passive Semblances.
Active Semblance types
Active Semblances are by far the most common catergory of semblance and the most typical. Renment's scientist define active semblances by what they do, not by what they are used for. Also, the categories are less hard rules and more like guidelines, which is why most semblances are hybrids.
Transportation - A formerly outdated but now revived semblance subclassification that describes semblances that are used to get from point A to point B. They do this by using the Aura shield as a vehicle to move at superhuman speeds. Associated with temperamental and breezy personalites.
Generation - A semblance that produces either an Aura construct or uses Aura to produce a type of energy. Associated with creative personalites.
Deception - An outdated semblance classification that describes semblances used to deceive humans, animals, and Grimm. No longer used in official Aura studies because it describes how the semblance is used instead of what it does, however there is a certain stigma against people with the semblance type in the modern day. Associated with criminal behavior.
Empowerment - A semblance that grants the users body or another object an beneficial ability that they would normally be physical unable to perform. The ability needing to be beneficial is a cause for much discussion in Aura studies. Is the most common type of semblance.
Disempowerment - A Empowerment semblance subtype that grants a harmful affect to the user or to others.
Domination - A semblance that controls real world phenomena (matter, energy) by using Aura to puppet it. Associated with commanding personalities.
Redistribution - An outdated category that describes a semblance that activates in response to absorbing a type of energy. It stopped being used officially because all semblances in this category are a hybrid with one in another category. Associated with aggressive personalites.
Mental - A semblance that directly interacts with and changes the brains functions. Debated if this should be a main category or a sub-category of Domination. Associated with introspection.
Passive Semblances
Every 1 in 100 hundred people are naturally born with a Passive Semblance, a specialized variation of the regular Active Semblances that various warriors learn to unlock.
As the name implies, a Passive Semblance is always active, beginning from birth, and the user has zero control over it. This fact is confusing for most people that are aware semblances drain the users aura, however, Passive Semblances are the exact same. Passive Semblances do drain Aura, but the rate at which they do so is so slow that the Semblance itself will never be able to fully drain a users owner by itself.
Because of their rarity and power, Passive Semblances have captured the imagination of all cultures of Renment far and wide. Children born with a PS that have a helpful affect, like removing pain and bring joy, are said to be Blessed. Likewise, those with PS that naturally hurt the people around them are said to be hexed and are seen as inherently evil. Worst of all are the Cursed: children born with PS that hurt both themselves and the people around them. Said to be bad omens, many cultures across Renment have gone as far as to leave Cursed children to die. The ones that avoid this fate are the real unlucky ones...
