BALLAD OF THE PRINCES THREE is a tabletop game set within the classic Filipino story Ibong Adarna. Play as the three brothers Pedro, Diego, and Juan, as well as the sorceress Maria, and go through the different timelines! This module also has the mechanics for Saints, higher beings commenting on the story (they first appear in my other work, When the Crocodiles Weep). Hope you can check it out!

Character designs for the three princes in my Ibong Adarna rewrite.
To summarize, Pedro is the heir to the throne, but his mother (the queen) was poisoned by a concubine - the mother of Diego. With Diego's mother being executed shortly after, Diego grew up plotting against Pedro. Juan is the king's son with a commoner, doted upon by his father and earning his two brothers' animosity.
Design notes under the cut:
These designs are far from finished. I feel I took the easy way out by using the language of shapes (square for Pedro, triangle for Diego, circle for Juan) to convey their personalities and temperaments.
Pedro has red for a typically heroic role (or at least, he tries to be one). Diego has yellow to convey his ostentation, while Juan has a humble blue.
In my head, Berbania specifically has the aesthetic of Moor-occupied Spain (thus justifying the brothers' Spanish names while also changing things up a bit).
Juan in particular has colors from both his brothers on his outfit to show how he admires them.

close your eyes
and let me fly you to the clouds
a calm white ocean
and gentle, cool breeze
to chase away your worries
close your eyes
and let me take you to a forest
a haven of lush greens
and trickling waterfalls
to soothe your weary soul
close your eyes
and let me lead you to a garden
a field of vivid colors
and fragrant blooms
to lift up your long aimless day
close your eyes
and listen …
i may heal you
I may endanger you
I am the Adarna

Ibong Adarna ttrpg is coming soon. And I mean real soon. Just adding some finishing touches + getting off my ass to do illustrations.
Just like WTCW, it'll have saints - Swellbloom Kids' equivalent of Umineko witches. Plata Panata is an OC I came up with, riffing off the rhyming in the expression "Oro, plata, mata" (gold, silver, death). Panata means "vow", so fitting for a Saint of Devotion.
Nining Matsing in the monkey in Rizal's Monkey and Turtle story, while Lerong Sinta is from the song "Leron, Leron Sinta".
It's fun to come up with saints. The pun potential is endless.

the ballad of the three princes.
(This is an expansion of the Ibong Adarna rewrite originally conceptualized by Tumblr user mondeeznuts.)
The kingdom of Berbania is ruled by King Fernando. He had a wife, Queen Valeriana with whom he had a son, Pedro. He also had a concubine, Leonora. Leonora wanted her son Diego to be the heir rather than Pedro, so she tried to kill both Valeriana and Pedro.
Valeriana was successfully poisoned, but Pedro survived the assassination attempt and ratted Leonora out to the King, who then had Leonora executed. There’s been a lot of tension between Pedro and Diego since then.
Several years after, King Fernando got married again, this time to a peasant girl named Juana, to everyone’s shock. Juana died in childbirth, leaving behind their son Juan. Seeing Juan as a memento of his deceased third wife, King Fernando doted on him, much to the ire of both Pedro and Diego.
The story begins with King Fernando falling sick after receiving a dream that two traitors would beat Juan up and leave him for dead. With no one able to cure him, Pedro is sent to seek out the fabled Adarna bird, whose song is said to cure any illness. Don Pedro sets out, eager to please his father and get back in his good graces. However, he falls victim to the bird’s song and is turned to stone.
With Pedro missing, Diego sets out as well, ostensibly to seek out both him the Adarna bird, but really to kill Pedro once and for all in the forest where no one can see them. On the way, he meets a poor hermit that asks for help, but in his arrogance he turns him away. Diego then comes upon Pedro turned to stone and tries to destroy the statue, only for the hermit to intervene and cast a spell that puts Diego to sleep, leading him to be petrified as well.
Several more months pass and King Fernando is on his deathbed. Juan is desperate and sets out as well to find the bird and also rescue his missing brothers - he encounters the same hermit before and acts kind to him. The hermit tells him to wound himself and then pour calamansi juice on it so as not to fall asleep, then gives him a golden rope to catch the bird with. He also instructs him to gather water from a nearby well and pour it over his petrified brothers to turn them back to normal.
Juan does as he is told, and successfully captures the bird and restores his brothers. Envious, Diego tells Pedro they should just steal the bird from Juan and leave him for dead so they can both claim credit - he decides he can kill Pedro later when he’s gotten his help in neutralizing Juan. The two brothers beat up Juan and leave him for dead, fulfilling King Fernando’s vision.
The brothers return with the Adarna bird in tow, but the bird refuses to sing without the presence of Juan, whom it considers to be its master.
The hermit from before comes upon Juan - she’s really a disguised princess, Maria Blanca, who has magical powers. She heals Juan with a spell and returns with him to the kingdom after he pleads for her help.
Just as Fernando is about to die, Juan and Maria burst in, allowing the Adarna bird to sing. Maria also uses a spell to make Pedro and Diego admit to their crimes. Pedro is exiled and Diego is slated to be executed.
Juan tries to plead with King Fernando to simply have Diego imprisoned, but Diego says he’d rather die with dignity than accept Juan’s pity.
On Diego’s execution day, Juan attends and says goodbye to his brother, telling him that he’s engaged to Maria. Diego laughs, and says Juan really has too much good in him. He says he’d rather have Juan as heir, saying he’s finally avenged his mother by removing Pedro as heir and having him exiled. Diego dies with a smile while Juan weeps.
As an epilogue, Juan receives a letter from the exiled Pedro, who says he’s so much happier now that the weight of being heir is off his shoulders.

My take on Poppy Partridge ^^
My second favorite character in welcome home and my first favourite when it comes to their designs. The voice acting for her is wonderfully done. Everytime I think about her I just feel all warm and fuzzy and I wanted to showcase that fluffy motherly feeling for the way that I design her!
Hope nothing bad happens to her haha...
