Ak!Jason is totally convinced that his “rescuer” is going to keep torturing him even worse than Joker… he’s fine with that as long as he doesn’t have to go back to Arkham

Og!Jason is in over his head with how to deal with Ak!Jason and consults several child psychology books on trauma and then decides to just… wing it (because there’s sadly no book on “what to do if your alternate self gets tortured by a psychopathic clown for months on end and your alternate family is seen gallivanting around town like nothing happened”)

Og!Jason draws many conclusions as to the forms of torture Ak!Jason had to go through, some of them wrong

Ak!Jason has a habit of suggesting torture methods to his “rescuer” (his one act of rebellion, because the methods he’s suggesting are less painful than the alternatives)

Bruh emotional support ghost kid? Well thats what they are calling him

Suicide cases in gothem are about to fucking plummet boiz cause this one weird blue eyes, black haired boy is now heading to your location.

How does he know where to be? Having a bad day and are all alone? No the fuck your not cause don’t turn around now but theres some shiny blue eyes coming at you from that dark ally. Oh shit hes here to drop some information about you and your lost loved ones that he should know. Oh god the closure. How could you have been afraid on this sweet, creepy, boy who just helped you find your way.

Meanwhile Danny is chillin in Gothem cause the GIW hate it there (none of they equipment actually functions in Gothem so it’s either super haunted or actually not haunted at all). Then all of a sudden he gets approached by a random ghost begging for his help because their sweet baby girl is about to do something horrible. Oops now all the ghosts are following their most loved ones around just to make sure they are there to rush to Danny for help when all else fails. Now hes getting to fulfil his protection obsession double time because one hes helping protect people from themselves and two hes protecting everyone in Gothem by stopping people from becoming villains for revenge. Plus he gets to see first hand how hes making a difference because all those people he saved are sending him some good vibes from all across Gothem.

Thank god he followed Jazz around so much to slightly absorb some of her phycology knowledge over the years. Plus it was actually pretty interesting so she gave him her old text books. Shes also helping him deal with the rare events where he can’t save someone. Just a moment too late or he stops them but they later succeeded in the hospital. Neither are his fault. Now only if he could convince his core of that.

Anyway why Gothem you ask? Amity Park would have been just as good tbh but imagine Batmans face when he finally gets to be face to face with the emotional support ghost boy. Why is he here? Bruce is fine. Batman is fine. Hes not gonna do anything crazy. It’s just a hard time of year. Around their death always gives him grief. But hes an adult and can manage it.

“You know they are so proud of you.” The boy states. As if it’s clear as day, even though it’s Gothem and never a clear day. Batman blinks at him, stunned for a moment. “What?” This boy can’t possibly know that. No one will ever know that, Bruce can only hope. “They see their home, full of such life. That big house that felt so empty, so cold, to them as well for years. Then you filled it with Family and Love like they had always wanted for you. They are so proud of what you have turned it into. Somewhere full of life and warmth.” A small smile graces his face as finally “you have made your parents so proud” and its all he can do to contain himself. Emotions are running high and sue him because he really did need to hear that ok. The boy suddenly looks to Bruces right with a confused face “aren’t all basements like that though?” Before Bruce can even get a word in hes gone. Just vanished before his eyes.

Somebody tell me if this is a bad take, or if my love for Bruce is causing my objective brain to glitch, but-- something about advertising Batman, a hero who's very popular for being good with children, for being NURTURING with children, a bad father kinda defeats the whole purpose of what he's supposed to represent.

Batman is a protector; He protects people the world (and especially law enforcement) does not care about. That's literally the point of him.

Something about marketing " you can be incredibly violent to people you care about! And Its fine, because you care about them even if you abuse them, and that's what matters!" towards people, but especially men and young boys, is REALLY fucked up to me.

#it's not really 'wahhh think of the children' because the media you consume isn't a vessel of your character #but. gotham war is so incredibly shallow to me for pulling the 'no no its another personality bruce would never!' like. thats worse.#you get thats worse right?#because 1) dc loves demoninsing DID for some reason but it doesn’t add any substantial weight because bruce will be associated with #the actions of his 'alter' anyway. and dc knew that. 2) if you truly cannot write an interesting comic book where bruce is not abusive #and the batkids aren't being abused. you failed.#this isn't a reprouch or an attack to people who prefer that format. but the creator isn't doing it as genuine exploration of dark tropes #if that's the case -- dont cop out with the personality thing. let him be a bad dad. but its kinda fucked how dc STILL try to paint him #as a good person while doing so. its the collen hoover effect. No because Damian angst could be so much more interesting if it wasn’t “Oh, thank GOD, Damian’s white saviors took him away from that awful, cruel and wicked pseudo mom Talia, oh thank god that he has Selina Kyle now!” and instead talked about how Damian was proned to violence since the moment he could walk and make noises with his mouth and was taught never to feel emotions THEN it goes to oh, son, you’ve made the choice to be with me so let me show you how to cope with that… with more violence as a pattern of unhealthy coping mechanisms instilled in you and me at a young age and you can show emotions! buuuut you have to wear this suit and take on a whole other identity then when out of the suit you have to wear a facade so no one truly knows about the suit in the first place and this won’t be confusing for a child at all! … Bruce Wayne.. what? And oh, this guy who thinks you’re a responsibility and generally vexing is going to take you under his wing because he thinks no one else can deal with you otherwise and you get a little close but eventually he hurts and abandoneds you as well but now you’re on good terms because the narrative has decided that no one can wrong you except the only person who loved you at first (Talia, the only person who thought it’d be a good idea to take you out of their lives in order to keep you away from this exhausting path of violence and masking) but it’s fine! … Okay, Dick… and then you’re fighting with your brother because he’s jealous of you taking his place and he calls you worthless, unworthy of love and your mantle and unworthy of your fathers trust… Okay, Tim…? NO ONE REALIZES THAT ITS NOT ABOUT DAMIAN NOT BEING AN AL GHUL! BEING AN AL GHUL DOESNT MAKE HIM EVIL! ITS NOT ABOUT HOW HE’S TREATED BY HIS FAMILY. ITS THAT CHOICE!! Damian needs to make more choices for himself instead of living by some destiny and going by whatever everyone else expects of him! so I've just read the infamous green arrow issue that convinced the fandom that Ollie and Roy hate each other and that Ollie is a bad parent... and like that's not how it reads at all? like obviously Ollie was really shitty to Roy in these issues but like it's very clear throughout it that they have a strong bond and I'd say they very much make it clear that they'll make it past this? people need to start actually reading the comics they're referencing istg

When it comes to canon it's often hard to separate what is true and what is bad writing/writer's choice.

For example it's easy to say that batman & robin All-stars is a bad comic but how much of what is "parodying" (Millar shitty excuse for being a mediocre writer) is true?

I'm gonna admit that I haven't had a lot of experience with batman comics (I have read probably around 200 of them? For the affiliated heroes even less I think; 85% of Tim's robin run, Cass Batgirl run, Batgirls, an Azrael mini series, Dick's tenure as batman, Damian year of the blood, batman & robin 2011 I think, red robin and no man's land) but can you actually say that Bruce isn't a an abusive parent? Starting from the 80s up to today the character has had a significant change of personality and story from his earlier incarnations, I wouldn't call him abusive with earth 1-2 Dick Graysons and pre-crisis Jason todd. The characters have some bad habits and issues that they have picked up because of Bruce but they are completely fine, things started to change after the crisis and they have never really gone back have they?

And honestly what does that say on how a character is supposed to be? It's an uncomfortable thought to have about characters that have existed for so long, is the writer wrong for following in the footsteps of those who have done the same before him? Like Gotham war is no different from stories like Tim's 16 birthday or Bruce original parenting plan for Cass.

I can't get mad for how things are today without looking back on how they where, I can't say that batman is a good or bad parent without erasing his actions and the situation at hand (saying he's a "complicated" dad is racist, sexist and ableist because you are trying to justify his actions when he is a grown ass man).

Simply ignoring those stories won't change the fact that they still are there, the fact is that now that's who he is and it's not very fun to read about a superhero who is actually a supervillain.

Also this goes for any character who has existed for decades, writers grow up reading about them different and that's how we end up with stuff like modern day Spider-Man.

Is it weird to want as much as I desperately want Damian and Bruce to have a good father-son bond,I also want Bruce to have consequences for being a pretty shit dad since Damian has been in his custody?? Alfred has been a better father figure than him and HE RAISED Bruce. I need Talia on his ass like yesterday!!! I’m bias in a way where I feel like Damian’s relationship with Bruce is very important, it’s just we have been dealt a hand with shitty writers which is sad because writers have done so much to have it be established that Bruce would literally go to hell for his son but like so many writers are so much more interested in showing how Batman and Robin are a power fantasy like they’ve been for years and make Bruce out to be this awful, neglectful parent. I kind of ignore that the same way I do Talia’s morrison stories but I still take in account that I’ll have to assess it.

I understand its OOC but like how I understand Jason almost killing Damian is OOC and still consider it happened, I also do that for bad dad Bruce. Like those events were too important to Damian’s character to be ignored unfortunately.

I will always prioritize Damian’s relationship with Bruce and Talia over the batboys, including Dick. Dick’s a last resort if those two are not an option. Unfortunately Dick’s relationship with Damian didn’t have a lasting effect on his character like it did Bruce, Talia or even Jon. He’s really just kind of some guy if you really think about it. So, Bruce and Talia and the depiction of the Al Ghuls is my main concern.
