Hollywood casting people too old to play people in their early twenties is something that can be so upsetting.

It Ends with Us. The main character is 23, being played by 35 year old Blake Lively. I’ve never read the book, but this seems drastic.

Red, White & Royal Blue. The main characters are between 22-24. Played by actors at least 6 years their senior.

(I could name a handful of other shows where this happens, but I’m currently in battle with my annoying neighbor and I can’t think straight.)

I get casting 18+ to play 16-18, it’s a legal work issue for minors and depending on the show (like Euphoria), a real young teen wouldn’t work. But there’s such a huge difference between 23 and 30. At the very least, if not casting around or at age, cast people who look like they could fit that age. Some people can’t pass for a younger age, that’s totally fine, but then they shouldn’t still be forced into a younger role when they wouldn’t be the best fit.

Sorry but I get very annoyed when actors are casted in an adaptation and suddenly everyone’s allowed to comment on how old someone looks, how dark someone looks or how they’re so not the idealized fantasy of a person they personally had in their head in the name of not “ruining a character.”

Even game/show/movie adaptations/reboots where people are like “but this isn’t exactly how they were before.”

Like that’s… boring????

If you want it to stay the same, go watch/read/play the original.

I’m not a fan of colleen hoover, have nothing against her just she’s EVERYWHERE.  I’m giving ‘It Ends With Us’ a 2nd try, didn’t read it the 1st time and gave it a way but after hearing Blake Lively staring in the movie which she’s my favorite wants me to watch it but first i’m pushing through to read the book.
