Heyyyy! Can I request 2, 6, and 21 for the excerpt ask? 😌 Thanks!
Hiya f-oighear! Of course you may, and one of these is pretty long, but I hope you enjoy 🥰~!
2 that makes me laugh
There’s quite a few that make me laugh, but this particular scene from COTF Chapter 23 always makes me giggle:
The children blinked at Yami’s words. A versus battle? They looked at each other with a mixture of excitement, confusion, and a bit of fear.
“ Alright! This is awesome!” Hikari and Brielle shouted excitedly, their eyes lit up as though it were christmas morning. Josslyn snorted slightly.
“ This is going to be a bloodbath,” Josslyn said with a shake of her head, then she turned to look at Ezio. “ Rest in Peace Pinky.” Ezio suddenly looked at her eyes wide in disbelief.
“ ‘P-Pinky’?! Your hair’s pink too, Joss!” Ezio shouted, his voice slightly high pitched. Josslyn couldn’t help but laugh a bit.
“ Alright then, the first person is; Hikari and,” Charlotte pulled out another lot. “ Ezio.”
“ I repeat. Rest in Peace Pinky.” Josslyn said, turning towards the pink haired boy, this time putting her hands together in mock prayer. Ezio could do nothing as he gaped like a fish out of water, but Hikari smiled brightly at him.
“ This’ll be fun! Do your best out there Ezio!” Hikari said, Ezio just stared at her as his face paled. As Charlotte began to draw more lots Ezio muttered under his breath how he was too young to die.
6 that i struggled with, but triumphed over
Oof I’ve had a lot, they were mainly pregnancy and birth fics, but there was one scene in particular that I really struggled with, and it wasn’t a pregnancy or birth fic; it was actually a fight between Yuno and his OC daughter Miku in COTF: Shadows!
“ Is something wrong?” Miku asked as she gently closed her book and set it aside, worry etched into her eyes that something had happened to Kya again.
“ No, nothing's wrong,” Yuno quickly said, but her father’s eyes betrayed him. “ I just wanted to ask you something.” Miku nodded slowly.
“ Can we push your training back again?” She blinked in surprise at her father’s question, before the surprise turned into exasperation and annoyance.
“ But it’s already been pushed back twice!” Miku said as she sat up straighter, and her voice slightly exasperated. She had been looking forward to training with her dad again, his smile turned sad and regrettable.
“ I know, and I’m sorry, but-,” Yuno tried, but he heard his eldest child sigh in irritation as her fists clenched the edge of the couch tightly.
“ ‘But something came up’, that’s what you were going to say, right?” Miku muttered, her tone becoming very annoyed. “ Something always seems to come up whenever you and I try to train.”
“ I’m sorry, Miku, I promise we’ll train tomorrow. I’ll clear my entire afternoon, how does that sound?” Yuno bargained, but he watched his daughter roll her eyes before she stood up, which made his eyes narrow a bit.
“ Yeah, right,” She grumbled as she walked towards the door. “ You’ll clear your afternoon, some nobles will come to visit or something else will come up, and you’ll push it back again. If I were Kya or Kito this wouldn’t happen.”
“ Hey,” Yuno called after her, his tone soft but holding a serious sternness to it. “ You know this is my job Miku, and it’s a 24 hour 7 day a week one that doesn’t give me time off or a chance to rest. I know it’s hard, but you just have to be patient-.”
Miku stopped walking and spun around when she heard those words leave her father's mouth, her purple eyes held a fiery anger in them. Her fists clenched at her sides, and she stomped her foot down onto the wooden floor with such force that it made a loud ‘boom’ echo though the room.
“ Patient?! I’m tired of being patient, dad, I’m tired of waiting while everyone else gets a turn or a moment with you! I’m tired of always having to be the grown up and waiting my turn!” Miku shouted angrily. “ I’m starting to think you and mom are pushing my training back on purpose!”
“ I asked Miku if it was alright that we push back her training to tomorrow, and she…got upset.” Yuno muttered with a shrug, and Miku glared icily at her father.
“ I’m not upset,” She exclaimed angrily as she stomped her foot against the ground. “ I’m just mad because you’re being a jerk and aren’t keeping your promise to spend time with me!”
“ Hey, don’t call your father a jerk,” Neva warned seriously as she looked at her daughter. “ Apologize. Now.”
“ No, I won’t!” Miku said angrily at her mother. “ Why should I when he’s a liar and keeps breaking his promise to train with me? He always says he’s too busy and can’t drop everything, but when Kya went missing he was able too!”
“ So it’s just that you don’t trust me to take care of her? Or is it that you don’t want to give her to me? Or did you already promise her to Kya?!” Neva quickly shook her head at her daughter.
“ That isn’t it either Miku, your father’s only saying that taking on Sylph is a big responsibility, and that he wants you to mature a little more before he-.” She tried to tell her, but instead of cooling her daughter's temper, she seemed to fan the flames instead.
“ You two just don’t want me to inherit Sylph and always want me to be dependent on you!” Miku shouted as she backed away from her parents.
“ That isn’t true-!” Neva began, but Miku’s gaze shot towards her mother.
“ Yes it is! You just want me to stay weak, like you!”
“ Miku Vega!” Yuno shouted, his voice raising for the first time during the entire disagreement. He could handle any insult their eldest daughter threw at him, but he wouldn’t allow her to insult and be disrespectful to her mother.
“ I hate you both,” The girl muttered. “ And I never want to see either of you again!” She shouted before running out of the library, leaving her parents standing there irritated and somewhat dumbfounded.
21 that i liked, but had to cut
Actually…I don’t have any 😅. The reason I don’t have any? Because I usually end up deleting what doesn’t work, even if I like it, and I either use it somewhere else or it just gets lost in the void. But, i did find two different excerpts for “Dandelions”! One is an “alternate” way that the beginning could have gone, and the other is when the two break up!
William frowned, he remembered there being papers on his desk about a person smuggling in goods without the proper documents a while back. They hadn’t been able to locate the person, but they did know they went by the name ‘Cinnamon’.
Wait, ‘Cinnamon’?
He looked at the shop's sign again before looking at the woman. No way, this couldn’t be.
“ Is the owner around?” William asked suddenly as he walked away from the bench and towards some other plants.
“ Did…I do something wrong?” He asked softly as he came to stand beside her.
“ No, you didn’t.”
“ Then…is the date not to your liking?”
“ No, it’s been perfect.”
“ Is it because of my scar?”
“ Of course it’s not because of your scar.”
“ Then please tell me what it is so that I can fix it!”
“ You can’t fix it William. You can’t.” Zera said defeatedly as she turned to look at him, her eyes held tears in them that she tried to desperately blink away.
William watched as she slowly pulled her engagement ring off her finger, grabbed his hand gently, and placed the ring in the center of his palm.
“ I’m sorry.”

book posters → mostly ghostly

In 1995, Josslyn Kahuanui’s biggest dream was for her band to play at the infamous Orpheum. It was the kind of venue that granted musicians their dreams through exposure to talent agents and producers, and it was all Joss had ever wanted. For Pink Slip, getting a gig at the Orpheum was meant be their ticket to stardom, the way to finally be more than just a dive bar band.

In 2020, Josslyn had absolutely no idea what her dreams were, mainly because death had a funny way of sabotaging all of them. What she did know, though, was that she was so not a fan of the fact that she seemed to be stuck with three guys from her former rival band.

This is a collaboration piece I made with Lyra @lyranova in which we follow the nightly adventures of Ezio Roulacase, Alistair Vangeance and Leonidas Vermillion, all 2nd generation magic knights. Yami does pop up as well, and there’s a couple of mentions of other 2nd generation OCs.
Treat is as a spin-off to Lyra’s Chidren of the Future -series, in case you wish to read of course ^_^

A night out and a mixer
It was a nice warm summer evening in the Clover Kingdom, couples were out shopping and having dinner, children were running around playing. It was a typical evening for most citizens. Except for 3 young Magic Knights, all in their early to mid 20’s, normally they would all be back at their respective bases. But tonight, one of the young men decided it would be a good idea to go to a mixer and ‘meet a few lovely ladies’ as he put it. Ezio Roulacase was a flirt and everyone knew it, he partially did it just to try and get the attention of a beautiful pink haired woman, but he also did it because he enjoyed having fun and socializing.
The other two Magic Knights, Leonidas Vermillion and Alistar Vangeance weren’t quite as ecstatic as Ezio about this whole ‘mixer’.
“ Oh lighten up you two! You’re supposed to be my wingmen just like I’m supposed to be both of your wingman!” Ezio exclaimed as he saw the sour looks on his friends' faces.
Alistair and Leon looked at each other, as if mirroring the expressions on the other's face.
"Remind me again," Leon began. "Why are we doing this?"
"Because..." Alistair sighed with a heavy tone that fell from him as if it was a boulder. "He is our friend."
Leon answered with another sigh, knowing that the friend -card was very much the reason they were there. But still feeling reluctance, much like Alistair.
"You make this sound like a chore," Ezio remarked as they entered the tavern where the mixer was to be held.
The tavern itself was decorated in a minimalistic fashion, but the wooden surfaces and soft lighting made it seem cozy and comforting. And the young men had visited it often times before, because of which they knew it to be one with good food.
As they entered the warm tavern Ezio quickly turned in the doorway and looked at the two with a half stern half pleading look, both Alistar and Leon knew exactly what that look meant; he was about to ask them for a favor.
“ Listen, I know you two like puns. I constantly hear Hikari complain about it all the time. But can you two please not make any tonight? I don’t need you two scaring off any of the girls with your bad jokes!” He said in a low tone of voice. Alistar and Leon shared another glance, of course it would be about the puns.
“ Fine, I swear on my role as Captain, that I will not make any puntastic puns this evening.” Asliatr said with a mock salute, Leon snorted and tried to suppress a chuckle.
“ I swear on my family’s name that I not make any punny puns as well!” Leon said, causing Alistar to snort as well.
“ You’re both unbelievable.” Ezio muttered as he walked inside and towards a table where three young women sat.
“ He does realize we can’t exactly control when we make puns right?” Leon whispered in Alistar’s ear, the white haired boy shook his head.
“ No, I don’t think he realizes that.” Alistar said with a small sigh. “ The thing about it is that it’s spontaneous and in the moment, and if there just so happens to be the right opportunity to make a pun tonight then we will.” Alistar added with a small chuckle as he sat down at the table.
"Indeed," Leon agreed while taking his own seat.
"Oh? What are you talking about?" One of the girls on the opposite side of the table asked, making Ezio glance at them from the corner of his eye.
"We were discussing..." Leon began, pausing for a split second, "how having to demonstrate quick wits while on duty, can reflect onto one's everyday life," he explained.
"Oh?" the girl uttered. "I imagine that is really useful," she continued, making Ezio let out a faint sigh of relief.
"It is," Alistair agreed taking part into the conversation.
"Well isn't the conversation flowing smoothly already?" Ezio smiled with a playful tone in his voice. "How about we make proper introductions, before moving forward? That'll make it easier for us to address each other. I'm Ezio and more than happy to meet every single one of you gorgeous, beautifully brilliant ladies," he began.
The conversation continued by them going around the table, making brief introductions and ordering themselves some food and drinks while making small talk in the process.
Alistar rolled his eyes slightly at Ezio and shook his head, he truly was his fathers son, except better at flirting. He gently took a sip of the water he had ordered as the girls began to speak and make light conversation with them.
“ So what made you two come to this mixer?” The blonde haired girl that sat across from Alistar asked, he frowned as he tried to remember her name, he shrugged internally. It would come back to him eventually. He smiled warmly at her.
“ Ezio.” He half joked, the pink haired man cut him a look as Leon chuckled softly, the vermillion haired man knew he wasn’t quite joking as Ezio was the whole reason they were even here in the first place. Otherwise the two would probably be back at their respective homes. “ But in all honesty, I came out here to support my friend and maybe meet someone in the process.” He added, his charming smile remaining in place.
Leon frowned at his words as he looked over at his white haired friend. Obviously he knew that wasn’t the truth, but he noticed something very odd in his friend's eye; disinterest. He tilted his head curiously, not just anyone would notice that look since it was a very rare look his friend would have, you had to really know Alistar, and know him well, to be able to see it. He placed a hand under his chin. ’ Well this is very interesting.’
“ W-What about you? Why did you come to the mixer?” The dark haired girl in front of Leon asked, she appeared to be very timid, and it almost looked like she wanted to be anywhere but here in this moment, her friends probably dragged her here just like Ezio dragged him.
"Hmm..." Leon hummed out in thought. "Well, unfortunately I must admit that I too am here to support a friend," he gave her an apologetic smile. "Though meeting new people is intriguing, mixers and events such as that can make people feel... forced, by which I mean that there seems to be a given set of expectations, rather than it being about people meeting people and getting to know each other without pressure."
"There's always pressure on a date," the brunette commented with a mumble.
"Hmm.. I suppose you're right," he agreed. "Especially if the parties on the date haven't known for long, because one tries to give the best possible image of oneself. But I think it's best to meet a potential spouse as who you are. Chances are that they'll fall who you really are, rather than the image you're trying to portray."
"M-mmm..." the girl seemed to agree with a blush while averting her gaze.
"So I take it that you're the one 'being supported'," the red-head in front of Ezio commented.
"Well..." Ezio chuckled with a nervous tone, scratching his cheek with his index finger. "I am a romantic at heart," he explained.
"Oh~...." the girl uttered while leaning closer. "So not just a flirt?" She smirked.
"I prefer calling it as a 'language of love'," Ezio continued.
"Mhm. Very much of a sweet-talker," the girl grinned.
Alistar rolled his eyes at Ezio, he was really laying it on thick tonight. He must’ve been rejected by Josslyn again, he sighed internally, everytime she rejected him he always went out and flirted with women. He silently wondered if Ezio went out on these dates when he was rejected to boost his own ego or to try and make Josslyn jealous? Probably a bit of both Alistar concluded with a nod.
“ So Alistar,” the blonde started as she pulled him out of his thoughts. “ I hear you’re into plants.” She added awkwardly, Alistar shrugged.
“ I am yes.” He answered shortly, Leon glanced over at him for a brief moment before looking back at the brunette in front of him.
“ Care to elaborate?” She asked with a small laugh, Alistar bit his tongue as he wanted to respond with a ‘not really’, but he decided to keep quiet. He leaned forward a bit and put on his most charming smile.
“ Well flowers are a lot like people; they need food, water, and sun in order to grow and,” he took her hand in his and rubbed the top of her hand with his thumb. “ Some are more beautiful than others.” He added in a soft voice, the girl in front of him looked away but her face told him everything he needed to know; she liked the really cheesy line. He almost sighed, that was the worst pick up line he ever used and she liked it.
Leon rolled his eyes at Alistar and Ezio; Ezio and the red haired girl in front of him might as well be kissing at this point, while Alistar, well, he was genuinely curious about what Alistar was doing. It was as though he were an actor playing a part on stage, his eyes still held that disinterested look and his smile was very forced, and yet he was still somehow ‘whooing’ the woman in front of him.
As Alistar was trying his best to ‘flirt’ with the blonde in front of him he looked up when he saw a flash a pink out of the corner of his eye, at first he thought it was Ezio, but when he saw who it actually was Alistar was shocked.
“ Oh snapdragon, is that Josslyn?”
Ezio's head shot towards Alistair, staring at him with wide-eyes before turning to look to the same direction to see, none other than Josslyn herself. She was wearing a dress that highlighted her features and complimented her hair; her jewelry, though modest enough, made her eyes pop.
Ezio couldn't help but swallow as he stared at her, while everyone else around the table stared at him in turn. Leon quirking an eyebrow, and Alistair letting out a faint sigh.
The red-head tugged her hand away from Ezio's. And it was only then that he realized how hard he had been squeezing it at the sight of Josslyn.
"'A romantic at heart' huh?" The girl scoffed.
"Well I-," he began, trying to collect himself. "I saw a familiar face and I... didn't expect to see her that's all," he tried, without success.
"Riiight... and I suppose you don't really know her either, and you're not here to look for something 'on the side'?" The girl continued while standing up.
Meanwhile all Alistair and Leon could think was "oh no...."
Ezio gaped like a fish out of water, he and Josslyn weren’t dating and yet here he was acting as though he had just gotten caught cheating on his girlfriend. He looked over at Leon and Alistar, who both shook their heads, there was no way they were helping him out of this.
“ N-No it isn’t like that at all! S-She’s honestly just a friend-.” He stammered and the red head’s eyes looked at him with irritation.
“ Riiight, I’m sure you’re ‘just friends’ and if that were true you wouldn’t be staring at her while I’m talking to you!” She said as her voice grew louder and more irritated. Ezio swallowed, he had noticed that. “ I think it’s time we take our leave. C’mon girls, we don’t need these guys.” She added with a huff before standing and walking away, the other two looked apologetically at Alistar and Leon.
“ Sorry, it was nice to meet you!” They both said before leaving the tavern. Ezio jumped up, his eyes wide in disbelief.
“ Excuse me.” He said before walking over to where Josslyn was sitting and grabbed her hand and led her to one of the empty party rooms, the door slammed behind them and Alistar sighed again.
“ Well, that went well.” He chuckled, he suddenly sunk down into his chair as he held his drink in his hand. He was mentally exhausted after the entire exchange with the women and with Ezio as well.
"Yeah..." Leon sighed, taking a sip of his drink. "But then again what did we expect?"
Alistair shrugged as a reply while staring ahead of himself.
"But... um," Leon began. "Tell me."
"Mhm?" Alistair uttered while taking a sip of his drink.
"What-, um," the vermillion haired man hesitated, trying to think of how to formulate his question. "What was going on between you and your date?" He asked while a hooded figure at a nearby table turned their head in an effort to hear better.
"What do you mean?" Alistair asked with a hushed tone. "It's a mixer. Showing interest is... courteous."
"You took her hand and called her beautiful, making her blush," Leon stated. "But ..." he drifted in thought, his voice growing more silent as a result. "You seemed... disinterested in the conversation? So... why go to that extent if you're not interested."
"But the thing is that I am interested," Alistair replied with a clear tone of voice, pausing for a moment. "But the person I'm interested in wouldn't be taken by such cheesy lines," he muttered.
Leon tilted his head curiously at Alistar’s words, so there was someone he was interested in. Leon swirled his drink around in his cup as he contemplated his next question.
“ Who are you interested in?” He asked, he watched the white haired man’s face turn a slight shade of pink, Leon smirked a bit. “ I never thought I’d see the day that Alistar Vangeance blushes over someone he likes.” He teased lightheartedly.
Alistar grumbled before leaning over and grabbing his drink, he really wanted to change the conversation. But sadly it seemed Leon wasn’t going to let this go, not until he got some kind of answer.
“ N-No one.” He tried to lie, Leon cut him a look that said ‘try again’. Alistar sat there for a moment as the wheels spun in his mind.
“ She’s, hm, she’s…” he swallowed the sudden lump in his throat, why couldn’t he just come out and say it? It was as though he were afraid to say it out loud to someone else. His eyes softened slightly as he glanced over at his Vermillion haired friend, who sat there and waited patiently.
“ It’s Hikari.” Alistar’s voice was so soft and so quiet he wasn’t sure if anyone heard him other than himself.
Leon's brows shot up and his lips parted in slight shock as, for a split second, he wondered if he had heard correctly. But it was as if, with that admission, it all just clicked. The whole bodyguard -thing, going both ways. The slight, admiring glances, that meant so much more than it might seem.
"I see," Leon chuckled.
Alistair slouched further forward, gripping his mug tighter as the tint over his cheeks grew more intense.
"You should tell her," Leon finally stated, taking a sip from his drink.
"I-," Alistair began. "I can't..." he muttered.
"Why?" Leon shrugged. "What's the worst that could happen? You'd still be you. You'd still be the captain of Golden Dawn, and then you could move on. In better or worse. Either you'd get to build a relationship with her, or then you'd get closure and be able to move on."
"You talk as if you'd know," Alistair replied with a hint of meek amusement.
"Yeah.. True," Leon admitted. "I haven't had feelings like that for anyone, especially not for years, so I can't know just how scary it is."
"I didn't say that it would have been for years," Alistair replied, taking a sip from his drink.
"And yet, you're not exactly denying it either," Leon smirked. "But. You're still right on not having first-hand experience. Most of this is second-hand from listening mom talk with Cyra," he shrugged.
Alistar glanced over at his friend as he continued to slouch over his drink, when he finished speaking, he looked away and just stared into his drink. Sure, his friend had some valid points, and they were almost the same points that Mrs. Sukehiro had made when she found out about his crush on her daughter. So, if two different people were telling him almost the same thing, then what was the harm in telling Hikari about his feelings? If he did, and she rejected him, he could move on with his life, but: “ I don’t want to lose her.” He finally admitted as his eyes moved from the glass and over to his friend. “ I don’t want to lose her, she’s been the only other constant person in my life. Sure, now I have you and the others, but she’s always been there, you know? Yeah, we’re not in the same squad, but still, somehow she’s always there when I need her the most.” He continued softly and with a small smile on his face.
“ I wouldn’t think,” Leon started cautiously. “ that telling her how you feel would change anything between you two. I mean, sure it can, but with as much history as the two of you have together, I would think it would take a lot more than that to cause you both to split apart.” He took a sip of his drink and watched his friend's eyes move back to his glass.
“ I’m not willing to take that chance.” Alistar added softly, he heard Leon sigh in exasperation.
"Then what will you do?" He asked. The very same question he had heard his mom ask Cyra so many times over and over whenever she was pondering about what to do with her feelings; wallowing over if they'd be requited or not.
"Hm?" Alistair hummed while glancing over to his friend. "What will I do when?"
"I mean, will you just keep everything as it is? And keep watching her from the distance?" Leon asked, looking over to the white haired man next to him.
"Yes..." Alistair admitted while averting his gaze again, swirling his drink in his mug.
"Fair enough," Leon commented, catching Alistair off guard.
A brief silence lingered between them as Alistair's gaze shot to his friend, wondering why such a quick change of attitude. "Just like that?"
"Yes, just like that," Leon agreed. "I can't force you to do anything, so if your 'doing something about it' is just watching her from a distance, then... that's what you'll do." He stated looking ahead of him. "But," he continued, "if it was me, and I'd then have to watch, who just might be the love of my life, fall in love with someone else, right before my eyes... I don't know what I'd do." He explained, pausing for a moment. "Or, I mean," he corrected himself, "of course I'd let her go. I'd let her live a life with someone else. Love someone else. But I'd probably keep kicking myself over the chance I didn't take."
Alistair listened, watching into the depths of his drink. He swallowed the lump in his throat that had reformed at his friend's words. He had never considered the possibility of Hikari possibly falling for another person, why hadn’t he thought about that? He swallowed what remained of his drink in one gulp, he noticed Leon’s eyes widened slightly in surprise at the action.
“ For someone who considers all possibilities, that was the one thing you didn’t think of wasn’t it?” Leon asked in a lighthearted teasing manner, Alistar grumbled a bit and Leon tilted his head. “ So, I ask again; what will you do? Because, in my opinion, you never struck me as the type to just sit back and watch.”
Alistar nodded in agreement, he wasn’t the type to be that way, and even the thought of someone else possibly capturing Hikari’s heart made him feel a pang of hurt and a bit of jealousy in his chest. He poured himself another drink and swallowed that in one gulp as well before slamming it down with new determination.
“ What will I do, you ask?” He finally looked at his vermillion haired friend with a bright smile and a determined look in his eyes. “ Heh, well, I guess I’ll have to tell her how I feel, because I’ll either lose her as both a friend and possible lover, or my confession will make our relationship that much better and, possibly even greater, than it was before.”
“ Finally.” Leon said under his breath as his friend quickly stood from his seat. “ Where are you going?”
“ To get Ezio, we’re leaving. Come on.” He said quickly pulling his vermillion haired friend up as well and dragging him to the back room where Ezio and Josslyn were, when the white haired man opened the door he blinked in surprise.
They were gone?! Alistar sighed, he must’ve taken her back home, which meant they were currently stranded at the tavern.
"It seems that he has left us to our own devices," Leon commented stating the obvious. "But we should first cover our tab. And then we can go... or you can confess and I'll make sure you don't chicken out," he smirked. "Or was your plan to pull back and think of the perfect way to confess?"
Alistair paused to think about it, but only for a moment. 'No', he shook his head, because he knew that if he'd let this newfound determination slip from him, he might indeed end up losing Hikari. And, at that moment, letting his confidence fade from him, was the chance he couldn't take.  So, they paid and were on their way, making their way towards the Black Bull's base while Alistair tried to feverishly think of what to say to Hikari. But the more he thought about it, the more his train of thought seemed to flow into 'okay, I'll-, I'll just tell her, yeah, I'll just say it', as if it had always been that easy.
"You okay?" Leon asked after a while of flying, watching as the white haired man's flight patterns had become less streamline.
"Yeah! Never felt-," he paused to hick up, "better."
"How much did you drink?"
"Enough," Alistair replied. "But I'm good, I'm good. Trust me, I can do this," he tried to assure.
"Aha," Leon muttered to himself while quirking an eyebrow, thinking to himself about whether or not he should talk his friend out of the confession, for the evening. But. Hikari knew Alistair, far better and far longer than he had, so there was a good chance that she had seen him in a worse condition. And besides, maybe Alistair would manage to convince himself out of it, if let to sleep it off. Thus, Leon opted to say nothing, and tried to instead keep an eye on his friend.
Alistar frowned, he was fine when he left the tavern, but the more the alcohol started to set in, the less ok he became. Luckily the Black Bulls base wasn’t too far from the city, plus if Alistar happened to crash or anything Leon would be there to help.
The two landed outside and Alistar, half stumbled half walked towards the door. Leon rushed to aid his friend but Alistar shook his head quickly, which he realized was a mistake as the world spun slightly.
“ I’m good. Promise.” He slurred, Leon sighed and shook his head before he watched his drunken white haired friend knock on the door.
Alistar began to ponder what he would say to Hikari when she opened the door. Should he just blurt it out like he normally did? Yes that seemed best, rip it off like a bandage. He closed his eyes tightly as he heard the door open and he inhaled quickly.
“ Hikari, I have something to tell you; I’ve been in love with you since I was 12 years old, and I’ve been too afraid to say it until today because I didn’t want our friendship to change! But now I realized that our friendship is going to change either way, for better or worse I’m not sure yet. But if you don’t feel the same way then I’ll respect it even though it’d break my heart, I’ll respect your feelings. I just thought you should know just how much I love you and how I’d love to spend my life with you!” Alistar blurted out, some of his words came out slurred, but there was still determination in his voice.
When Alistar opened his eyes he instantly paled as he saw the face staring back at him wasn’t Hikari’s, but her fathers, Captain Yami Sukehiro.
Yami stared at him wide-eyed, his gaze piercing through Alistair's form, and still gathering intensity with each passing second. "What...?" Yami only asked with a low, slow, monotone voice that rose as a rumble from deep within his throat.
Alistair, couldn't bring himself to answer. He could feel whatever drunken confidence he might have had, drained into the ground under him. He wanted to answer, but even before he could bring himself to even open his mouth to try mumble out anything, Yami continued:
"Don't. Say. Another. Word. Or else I might actually kill you."
Alistair, remained quiet.
"And you," Yami continued, shifting his attention to Leon who was standing in the background.
"Hi," Leon greeted while giving Yami a slight wave.
"Are you here to confess to my wife?" He asked with a nearly mocking tone in his voice through his groggy state.
"No Sir, I can assure you that I have no such intentions," Leonidas began. "Instead I am here to ... aid a friend to conquer a maiden's heart."
Yami's already raised eyebrow rose even further up. "If you weren't the son of the King-of-hard-noses I'd swear that you're more drunk than this one here," Yami motioned towards Alistair.
The white haired young man opened his mouth to reply, but was shot down by Yami:
"I didn't give you permission to speak up."
Alistair, remained quiet.
‘Why me?’ Alistar thought as he stared into the ground beneath his feet, why couldn’t the other Captain Sukehiro have been the one to answer the door?! Oh wait, no that probably would have been much worse, especially if Captain Yami had only heard part of the conversation. Alistar didn’t even dare glance up, he could feel the taller man’s piercing gaze on him.
Yami studied the young man in front of him, he had known him since he was born and has somewhat watched as he grew up to become the person he was today. He frowned a bit.
“ What makes you think you deserve my daughter? Especially in the sorry state you're in now.” Yami asked harshly, which was what he intended. He was being tested. Whether the young man knew it or not was another question entirely.
Alistar visibly flinched at his words, he was right, what did make Alistar think he was good enough for Hikari. He bit his bottom lip in thought for a moment. “If we’re being honest, I probably don’t deserve your daughter,” He started, not noticing the surprise on Leon’s face or catching the surprise in Yami’s eyes. “ at least not in the drunken state I’m in now. But I do love your daughter Captain Sukehiro, and I believe Hikari should be the one to decide if I’m truly good enough for her.” He paused for a moment before continuing. “ Your opinion means a lot to her sir, and I know she’ll take your thoughts about me into account. So I apologize for showing up here like this and there’s no excuse good enough to explain my drunkenness. But,” Alistar paused for a moment before finally looking up to face Captain Yami. “ haven’t you ever just needed a little help to get through something that completely terrified you? Haven’t you ever been afraid of losing someone so close to you that it almost physically hurts to think about? That’s how it feels when I think about losing Hikari, that’s why I needed some ‘liquid courage’ tonight. It’s not an excuse, but it is an explanation.”
Yami continued to look at the hunched over shadow of a man, or a boy in man's shoes, in front of him. And. He could relate to the white haired suitor. He didn't feel worthy of his wife on most days, and certainly not on their wedding day, or any of their children's birthdays.
"And if I told her about what happened today, would you not talk about it with her?" Yami asked, still pushing, wanting to see how Alistair would react.
"I-," he uttered as his gaze fell to the side. "I... would need to apologize, her finding out that way... so... I would. At least that much," he spoke with a hushed tone.
His ki was sincere, and he meant every word even if he seemed unsure of himself. He was being honest about what he thought he would do.
"This is my daughter we're talking about," Yami still emphasized. "And she'll be more than I ever was, or will be. You're right on her making her own choices. That's all I will say."
Alistair's form slouched further down, as if the guilt of the heaven's above had been placed onto his shoulders. And Yami couldn't help but feel tiny bit sorry for the young man.
Tears started collecting behind Alistair's eyes as rejection and disapproval slapped him in the face. And yet, he glanced up, looking at the stern gaze of a father looking out for his daughter. "I-, understand," he spoke with broken syllables.
A brief pause lingered in the air, but it was ended by the sound of Yami letting out a sigh. "You did do two things right," he stated. "And if you want to make one more thing right today, you'll go home and sleep off your sorry state."
Alistar looked up quickly once again, he had never dreamed of Captain Yami actually saying he did one thing right let alone two, but the tall man didn’t elaborate further on what those things were.
Alistar nodded and muttered a quick ‘yes sir’ and turned toward Leon, who only stood there with a supportive smile, and the white haired man just shook his head. A lot of help Leon was. But as Alistar took one step forward the world began to spin again, he quickly lost his balance and face planted in the dirt. Right in front of Captain Yami and Leon.
Yami sighed as he walked over and grabbed the back of Alistar’s robes, when he pulled him up he noticed the boy was limp and he blinked.
“ He passed out?” Leon asked as he came over and grabbed Alistar’s arm and threw it over his shoulder. “ How can that be, he only had two drinks?!”
“ What tavern did you go to?” Yami asked, as Leon quickly explained Yami sighed, again. “ Yeah that place is known for their exceptionally strong drinks, wait a second, wasn’t Taxi Jr. with you two?” Yami suddenly asked as he looked around, Leon frowned at the nickname when suddenly a portal opened and out walked Ezio.
“ Ah there you are, where have you been?” Yami nearly shouted, causing Alistar to groan and making Ezio jump. The pink haired boy instantly ran over and began to apologize profusely. Leon shook his head, he was just as scared of the Captain as his father was. “ take these two idiots back home would ya?” He added, Ezio quickly nodded and saluted the Captain before rushing over and grabbing Alistar’s other arm.
“ ‘m sorry sir.” Alistar slurred softly, although Yami was able to hear him.
“ Just sleep it off kid, you’ll have one terrible headache in the morning, but you’ll be alright.” Yami said as he walked back towards the base.
"So... What happened?" Ezio asked while opening a portal, glancing over to make sure that Yami was already a small distance away.
"Nothing much," Leo shrugged as they started practically carrying Alistair through the portal and to the Golden Dawn's base.
"You can't expect me to really believe that after I find you to outside of Captain Sukehiro's door, with him," Ezio nodded towards the barely conscious white haired male they were more or less now dragging through the Golden Dawn's base, "looking like he faceplanted into the ground."
"He does like planting alright," Leon replied.
"Not again," Ezio groaned.
"Plantannan...." Alistair tried to mumble, but only let out incoherent grumbles.
"Fiiine," Leon shrugged. "We stayed to chat, and after downing a far too strong drink, Alistair ... found some courage and decided to ... spill something."
"Oh?" Ezio uttered, intrigued. "And what might that 'something' be?"
"I'll let Alistair answer that one," Leon replied with a frank tone, making it clear that he wouldn't say anything else to the matter.
Ezio frowned but he would let it go for now, and he sighed as they half carried half dragged Alistar towards his room. He was a lot heavier than he looked, Ezio knew Leon was carrying most of his weight, and he felt partially bad for that, but Leon didn’t even seem to notice the weight.
“ We need to hurry and get him to his room before someone sees. I’m pretty sure the Captain of the Golden Dawn isn’t supposed to be drunk.” Ezio whispered hurriedly as he looked around, Leon nodded and they quickly made their way to Alistar’s room.
Once there, Ezio shut the bedroom door softly behind them before they walked over to his bed and dropped him gently onto it. Alistar groaned and rolled over so his face was buried into the mattress.
“ ‘m sorry.” Alistar slurred again, this time it was muffled by the mattress, but it also had a hint of sleepiness in it as well. Leon sighed and shook his head, Alistar was something else tonight. He walked over and took off his friends boots, placed them at the foot of the bed, and threw a blanket over the white haired man.
“ Goodnight Alistar.” He said before walking towards Ezio, who already had a portal open and waiting. Alistar muttered an almost incoherent ‘goodnight’.
“ I bet he’s not going to remember any of this tomorrow.” Ezio said with a sigh, Leon shrugged.
“ If not, then one of us will just have to remind him.” Leon chuckled before walking through the portal with Ezio.
"Oh that we will certainly do," Ezio agreed with a smirk which let Leon know that Ezio wouldn't let Alistair live this down easily.
"So," Leon continued while making his way closer to home. "Did you make up with the missus?"
Ezio halted his steps with a blush over his cheeks. "I-, she's-, we aren't together!" He insisted, but the blush hinted of him not minding such a thing to be implied.
"Hmm... You sure seemed confident when you took her by the hand and pulled her to have a private conversation," Leon grinned.
"Well I-, I needed to clear things up... So it was necessary."
"I see," the vermillion haired boy continued with a smirk.
"We really need to get you a girlfriend so that we can tease you about these things," Ezio continued, trying to shift the conversation elsewhere. "We need to take you on more mixers and get you someone to call your own," Ezio started planning. "So, what's your type?"
Leon let out a groan. "That seems like a hassle, more than anything. And besides, if I say that I only like something specific or 'have a type', I would be excluding a lot of wonderful people I'm sure."
"Love is a battlefield and it shouldn't be taken lightly!" Ezio insisted.
Leon groaned at the pink haired man as he seemed to be walking Leon to his room. He could practically see the wheels turning in his head.
“ Hm, well I know quite a few people from all walks of life. So I’ll go through my long list of contacts and old flames and ses if there’s anyone that might pique your interest.” Ezio said with a chuckle, Leon was a good-looking guy so he couldn’t understand why he hadn’t found someone yet.
“ Or are you picky like Alistar is?” He asked, Leon chuckled and shook his head, although Ezio frowned at the sound. It was as though he knew something that Ezio didn’t.
“ Ah no no I’m not ‘picky’ like Alistar, I just don’t want to limit my pool of potential partners that’s all.” Leon answered simply. “ How many ‘old flames’ do you have anyway?” He asked the pink haired man curiously, he watched as a blush crept onto his cheeks.
“ A couple, but none lasted longer than a month.” Ezio answered with a nervous laugh. “ I don’t know why, but for some reason I just can’t seem to stay in a relationship for very long.”
“ Maybe,” Leon started as they reached his bedroom door. “ maybe it’s because none of them are the woman you want.”
Ezio muttered something as a reply, but the words didn't leave his mouth and thus, nothing could be deciphered of it.
"Look..." Leon continued. "I don't know anything about this relationship stuff, or the 'game of it', but... if there's someone you want to have a relationship with, you probably need to get closure on that front."
Ezio stayed silent glancing at Leon as they reached his room's door.
"How?  I have no clue. I'm not you, and I don't know anything about it all, and what it's like, but something is keeping you from moving forward."
"It's easy for you to say," Ezio remarked while looking away, hunching over himself slightly.
"True, it is. Because I've only seen Cyra grimace over it," Leon shrugged. "But from what I can tell, she's had her share of broken hearts, she has gotten closure and moved on. Though I'm not sure just how ... attached she was in those cases, but she was hurt, and I get it."
"Mmmm...." Ezio mumbled, still looking away.
"But. It's late and I don't need you tugging me in, I'm not that drunk," Leon joked while opening the door. "Good night," he still wished waving Ezio off.
"Night," the pink haired man replied casting a portal to take him home as well.

———
Yami watched as all the kids had a mixture of responses, but his eyes landed on Alistar. The white haired man continued to have a calm look on his face, but when he looked at his Ki he noticed a slight nervousness in it. Yami almost laughed, the kid was probably afraid he’d have to go up against Yami.
“ Captain, I think you need to go into further explanation before the kids get too ahead of themselves.” Vanessa said with a small giggle, Yami sighed and rubbed the back of his head.
“ Yeah you’re right. Listen up!” Yami suddenly shouted, causing everyone to stand at attention. “ You’re not fighting against us.”
“ Aw really? That sucks!” Hikari and Brielle said in unison, both looking disappointed. Ezio let out a sigh of relief.
“ Well I did suggest that, but your ‘parents’ all felt it would be unfair to have you guys fight against us. Especially since most of you are kids.” Yami said as he looked at the ‘parents’ behind him, he felt that they were maybe underestimating the kids a little bit, but he did agree that having them fight against 3 Captains plus some other really strong mages was a bit unfair.
“ So, pretty much it’s just us fighting against each other?” Alistar asked as he placed a thoughtful hand under his chin, Charlotte nodded in confirmation.
The kids all looked at each other, they would be fighting against each other? That didn’t seem too bad, but considering they were all at various levels, was this really fair either?
“ Since there’s an odd number of you, someone will have to go twice.” William said as he pulled out what appeared to be lots. “ I’m sure you know how this goes but just in case we’ll all explain. Each lot has a name on it, we’ll pull out two names from the bag, and whoevers names are on them will be fighting against one another. Alright?” William asked, the kids nodded.
“ Actually,” Ace suddenly said with a raised hand. “ I’d actually like to take myself out of the mock battles if that’s okay?”
“ Why? You did really well when we were training yesterday.” Zora asked with a raised brow, Ace just shrugged.
“ There’s an uneven amount of us, which means someone would have to go twice, and to be honest I don’t think I’m ready to do a versus battle. I want to train a little more before I try this.” Ace said softly, Josslyn sighed before walking over to her brother and ruffling his red hair.
“ Let him watch for now, then he can participate next time.” Josslyn said, Zora frowned but nodded. He would try and talk to Ace later and see why he decided to back out of it.
“ Next will be; Maelie and Aloys.” Charlotte announced as she looked at the lots in her hands, Aloys immediately stepped forward.
“ No way. I’m not fighting against my sister.” Aloys said, Maelie walked over to Aloys and gently grabbed his hand.
“ It’ll be okay big brother,” She told him softly. “ I promise!” She added with a small smile, Aloys’s face turned a bright red.
“ F-Fine, I guess.” He muttered softly, but there was a very apprehensive look on his face.
Charlotte continued through the lots; Miku and Kaiyo, Mizuki and Brielle, then finally.
“ Alistar and Josslyn will be our final battle for the day.” Charlotte announced, Josslyn smirked and pumped her fist into the air excitedly.
“ Alright! I hope you’re ready to get your ass kicked Pretty Boy!” Alistar nearly snorted but he smirked as well.
“ I don’t think I’ll need to worry about that. Instead I’ll make sure your grave is right next to Ezio’s.” Alistar said in a light hearted manner, Josslyn glared.
“ What did you say-?!” Josslyn started but Yami cut her off.
“ Alright enough with the chit chat. Let’s get started!” He announced.
All the kids and their ‘parents’ began to move and create a border around a small area in the front of the house. The adults looked at each other, this wasn’t just to see how strong each child was, but they also wanted to see how they would strategize and how they’d handle fighting against different power types.
Hikari and Ezio walked into the center of the circle. Hikari was still smiling brightly, while Ezio looked so nervous that everyone was waiting for him to just port himself somewhere else. He looked over at his ‘parents’, Finral looked almost as nervous as Ezio while Vanessa just cheered him on.
“ Begin!” Yami suddenly shouted, signaling the beginning of the match.
Hikari pulled out her katana and began to use her Dark Spatial magic to attack Ezio, who used his Spatial magic to try and block or send her attacks somewhere else.
“ Ezio isn’t really an attack mage,” Aloys explained to Finral and Vanessa. “ he’s better for transportation or for defensive stuff like this. Luckily he’s pretty fast so he’ll be able to keep up with Hikari’s attacks for a little bit, but he’s pretty outmatched. She’s the strongest in the group.” Aloys finished and as he did, Ezio was suddenly knocked back and landed on the ground with a loud ‘thud’.
“ He lasted longer than I expected.” Josslyn said as she watched Finral and Vanessa walk over to their ‘son’ and gently pick him up off the ground. Yami and Charlotte walked over to Hikari.
“ That’s my girl! You did pretty good out there kid!” Yami said with a cheerful laugh as he placed a gentle hand on her head. Hikari felt her cheeks turn a bright red but she smiled at her ‘fathers’ praise.
“ Thanks, but is Ezio okay?” She asked as she looked towards where the pink haired boy was lying.
“ He’ll be alright, don't worry!” Vanessa said as she helped Finral pick their ‘son’ up and they carried him over to the side.
Yami, Charlotte, and Hikari walked out of the center. Charlotte couldn’t help but chuckle as Yami walked with his chest slightly puffed out, he was a proud papa that was for sure. They stood around the circle and watched as Maelie walked into the center.
“ Big brother? Aren’t you coming?” Maelie asked softly as she waited for Aloys.
Aloys stood off to the side, he really didn’t want to go in there and fight his sister. He knew how it would end and he wasn’t looking forward to it at all. He looked over as he saw Gauche and Grey approach him.
“ Aren’t you going in there?” Grey asked softly, the young boy nodded as his face turned slightly red, Gauche scoffed a bit.
“ What? You don’t want to fight against your sister in front of everyone?” Gauche asked, Aloys glared.
“ Would you want to fight against Marie old man?” Aloys asked, Gauche rubbed the back of his head. “ Yeah I didn’t think so. Besides, it’s not just because she’s my little sister that I don’t want to fight against her.” Aloys muttered before walking out into the center, Gauche and Grey looked at each other with a confused frown.
Shortly after that, everyone found out why he didn’t want to fight Maelie.
As the siblings battled the sweet, shy, and innocent Maelie that everyone came to know and love seemed to completely change. Her eyes grew cold and harsh, she mercilessly attacked her older brother.
“ Pathetic.” She muttered, her voice and mannerisms almost mirroring Gauches. Meanwhile Aloys’s began to mirror Grey as he transformed himself and items around him into various things to try and deflect his sisters attacks.
“ N-Now I see why Aloys didn’t want to fight her,” Finral said with a nervous laugh. “ She’s just like Gauche when she’s fighting, but when she isn’t she’s like Grey and vice versa with Aloys.” He added as they all watched the older Adlai sibling steadily try to dodge his sister's attacks.
Until finally Maelie had her brother surrounded by mirrors and effectively ended the battle.
“ Aloys! I’m sorry, are you okay?” Maelie asked as she rushed to her brother with Gauche and Grey, Aloys nodded as he sat up.
“ I-I’m fine Maelie.” Aloys assured as he stood up with a little help from Gauche. As the Adlai ‘family’ walked out of the center the others stood there shocked that Maelie, a 9 year old, had beaten her 16 year old brother.
——
The other battles went on smoothly, Miku was able to defeat Kaiyo with slight ease. Kaiyo had gotten better at controlling her Mercury Magic but still wasn’t a match for Miku’s wind magic, the next battle between Mizuki and Brielle was a little more challenging. But Brielle, with the help of her devil Herz, was able to counter Mizuki’s water magic and send it back twice as strong. Which ensured her victory.
Now, it was time for the final battle between Josslyn and Alistar.
“ How do you think this is going to go?” Yami asked William curiously, who only shrugged in response.
“ I’m not sure. Alistar’s plant magic is pretty strong, and Josslyn is pretty strong as well. So it’ll be interesting. But the problem is, Josslyn seems to be a bit hot headed, as opposed to Alistar which could either be her greatest strength, or her eventual downfall.” He said thoughtfully, Yami nodded in agreement.
Josslyn and Alistar both walked to the center of the circle. She held her head up high, she knew Alistar was strong, but she was stronger. She was even close to being the Captain of the Purple Orcas, there was only one thing holding her back from achieving that dream, but that was a thought for another time.
“ Don’t go crying to your daddy when you lose Pretty boy.” Josslyn taunted with a smirk, Alistar laughed softly, his calm smile still in place. Josslyn couldn’t help but feel slightly annoyed by it.
“ Oh I don’t plan too, because I’m not going to lose.” Alistar said simply, Josslyn rolled her eyes at him. She really had no idea how Hikari could be friends with him, especially with how arrogant he was.
“ Whatever.” Josslyn didn’t even wait for Yami to yell ‘begin’ before she began to use her steam magic.
“ Ah, so we’re starting this battle off by cheating,” Alistar said with a nod before using his magic to block her spell. “ How very ‘on brand’ of you.” He added, Josslyn rolled her eyes.
“ All’s fair in war.” She pointed out, which Alistar nodded in agreement.
“ You’re right. So, I don’t think you’ll mind if I just do this real quick.” Alistar then snapped his fingers and vines popped up from the ground into sharp spikes, suddenly a bunch of runes appeared on the grounds. Josslyn growled, he had set off her traps.
“ Did you really think I wouldn’t be able to sense your traps?” Alistar said, his same smile in place.
Josslyn began to run quickly in the circle, curse words flying out of her mouth as she quickly tried to think of another plan. Alistar hadn’t moved an inch from where he had been standing, he used multiple plants and vines to either chase Josslyn or block her spells. She stopped for a moment as she tried to think of how to get around him.
“ Let’s try this!” She shouted before creating multiple illusions of herself, just like Nebra would. She then began to use them to help her attack him.
“ Really? I thought you were smarter than this Josslyn.” Alistar tsked as he blocked her attacks again and immediately dispatched all her illusions, Josslyn tried to move out of the way but felt something wrap tightly around her ankle. She swore again as she looked down. One of Alistar’s vines had wrapped itself around her leg and was beginning to wrap around the other.
“ Seriously?!” She shouted as she tried to use her magic to kill the plant, she frowned as it appeared to do nothing. She looked up, Alistar’s smile seemed to have widened slightly.
“ That is an Air Plant. They’re resistant to steam, humidity, and mist. So your magic won’t be able to do anything to it.” He stated matter of factly. “ This is why your Captain won’t promote you to Vice Captain, you could have easily dodged the plant, and while you did have some good ideas and traps, you got a little ahead of yourself by underestimating me. You need to control your ego and your temper, otherwise you’ll stay stuck forever.”
As the white haired man spoke, all Josslyn could do was glare. These were words she had heard from everyone; Hikari, Her Captain, members of her squad. All it did was annoy her, and right now she wanted to wipe that irritatingly calm smile off his face. A smirk grew onto her face, since she couldn’t beat him in ‘actual’ warfare she decided to give ‘psychological’ warfare a shot.
“ Seriously? You’re going to lecture me?” Josslyn then laughed humorlessly before continuing. “ The man who's only been Captain of the Golden Dawn for a few months is going to lecture me?!” She shouted loud enough for everyone to hear. She couldn’t help but smirk in slight satisfaction as Alistar’s eyes widened.
The adults all looked at Alistar, he was the Captain of the Golden Dawn? Then why didn’t he say anything? Suddenly things began to click into place with all of them. Him knowing the reason the kids were sent back, the scouts, him keeping all those secrets. It was because he was a Captain, and was probably well informed of everything because of the meetings he had attended.
“ Josslyn!” Hikari shouted, she had been trying to keep Alistar’s secret up until this point. He hadn’t wanted the adults to know, because it would lead to nothing but questions, and currently his title was a touchy subject for him.
“ We all know how you earned your title Pretty boy!” Josslyn continued, ignoring Hikari. “ whereas everyone else earned their Captain or Vice Captain titles through hard work and dedication. Meanwhile, the only reason you earned yours is because of your dear sweet daddy and his favoritism towards you!” She added and suddenly, she felt two more vines wrap around her arms and bind them to her body.
As Josslyn finished shouting she noticed Alistar kept his head down, she watched as he shoulders shook. Was he…laughing?
“ You really are hot headed,” Alistar said, his voice eerily calm. “ You just shoot off at the mouth without thinking. Like everyone else you’d rather assume it was favoritism instead of actually thinking it could be because of my abilities.” He said, his voice becoming colder as he spoke.
“ I guess I did bring this on myself, I’ve been going easy on you all day. How about I show you what a real Captain’s abilities are?” He suggested, suddenly raising his head. As Alistar did, everyone noticed he no longer had a calm smile on his face, it was replaced by a serious one, and he had an almost wild look in his eyes.
As Josslyn began to ask what he was talking about she felt the vines on her arms and legs tighten and watched the sky above them darken. She saw a slight green tint appear and suddenly vines and plants began to rain down like rain drops. The adults and children tried to block and dodge the best they could, but as they did, the ground also began to turn a similar shade of green. More vines popped up from the ground and began to capture everyone one by one. The only ones that had managed to evade them were Yami, William, and Hikari.
“ Alistar stop!” Hikari shouted as she, Yami, and William began to hack and slash at the plants. A very faint sense of deja vú struck her at that moment, but she shook it away. She ran towards the white haired boy, but as she did more vines and plants tried to stop her.
“ Do you finally get it?” He asked Josslyn, his voice still eerily calm. “ I got to where I am today because of me, not my father! It isn’t favoritism, it’s because I’m strong enough to do this job!” He added, Josslyn just stared at him, her eyes wide in fear as she barely recognized the person before her.
“ Hikari! You need to get Golden Boy before he covers the whole area in freaking plants!” Yami shouted, him and William still hacking away at Alistars magic. Hikari nodded and ran towards him again. But suddenly more and more plants began to pop up, she had seen this once before years ago, and as she looked at Alistar she noticed he suddenly frowned.
“ It isn’t favoritism right? It’s because I’m one of the strongest in the squad, not because I’m his son.” He began to insist, more to himself than anyone else.
‘Are you sure about that?’ A little voice suddenly spoke in Alistar’s head. ‘I mean think about it; you’re a 19 year old kid who loses control of his powers on a whim, just like right now, when there are lots of other qualified people to take control of the squad. Who in their right mind would make such a decision? Ah but that’s right, your father isn’t in his right mind is he? I mean, he is dying after all right?’
Alistar suddenly snapped.
“ No! Nono it wasn’t favoritism! It’s because my father believed in me when no one else did, it’s not because he’s dying! That’s not the reason why!” Alistar suddenly screamed, falling to his knees while clutching his head. That wasn’t it…that couldn’t be it!
Suddenly, a katana made of dark spatial magic was pointed towards him.
“ Alistar! You need to get a hold of yourself or you’re going to kill everyone!” Hikari shouted, this scene was all too familiar. A memory that had been buried began to creep to the surface. A memory where Alistar was in this exact same position, losing control of his powers and muttering to himself, she shook her head again.
“ I-It wasn’t favoritism! I earned my place, it wasn’t a decision he made just because he was dying…that’s not it!” Alistar muttered to himself, his hands shaking. Hikari put her katana away and grabbed him roughly by the shoulders.
“ Alistar! Snap out of it please! You’re hurting everyone!” She shouted as she shook him, Alistar suddenly blinked before looking up at her.
“ You’re a Captain right? You’re supposed to help people, not hurt them. So please pull yourself together Alistar!” Hikari begged, Alistar blinked a few more times as he processed her words. His eyes became clearer and clearer, as the plants began to stop and slowly disappear is when she realized she had brought him back.
“ H-Hikari…?” Alistar asked softly, he began to look around and saw the destruction he had caused. Yami began to release Josslyn from the vines that trapped her, while William began to try and release the others.
“ W-What did I do?”

Should’ve Been There
Just a quick warning, this little scenario takes place a little while after Infinity War! As far as I know, there aren’t any spoilers in this, but if there are then let me know and I’ll change it! Hope you guys like it, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I own nothing but my OC, Josslyn! Everything else goes to its rightful owners!
"I should've been there with him." Strong arms wrapped themselves around the brunette as warm lips were pressed to the side of her head in a comforting way. "You didn't know, Josslyn. There was nothing that could have been done anyway, you know that." She shook her head. "I'm his big sister, Steve... I was supposed to be there telling him he was gonna be okay..." Heartbroken sobs left her lips as she leaned into the blonde haired male's embrace, her entire body shaking as grief completely consumed her. All Steve could do was hold her and run a hand over her thick curls. "I should've been there..." "Shh..." More sobs and cries escaped the black woman's lips, the pain in her heart worsening by the minute. Her cries rang all throughout the room until she eventually fell asleep in the early hours of the next day. He laid her down, being careful not to wake her up, then laid beside her and continued to hold her. As he closed his baby blue eyes, he grew a resolve of determination. 'Thanos will pay dearly for this, I'll make sure of that... Even if it's the last thing I ever do...'

Finral and Vanessa slowly made their way to the Wizard Kings office, the two of them had been pretty surprised when the Wizard Kings assistant Marx had contacted them directly and told them that the Wizard King would like to see them. The two had been confused at first, especially since Captain Yami wasn’t there, but they knew better than to refuse an order such as this. So, the two followed the guard silently as they made their way to the Wizard King's office.
“ Hey Vanessa,” Finral started sheepishly. “ Why do you think the Wizard King asked to see us instead of asking for Captain Yami?” Finral had a gut feeling he knew why, but he didn’t want to say it out loud and jinx it.
“ Hm, I’m not 100% sure but I have a feeling it has to do with the kids suddenly appearing and, if I were to go off what's been happening the past week, then I would guess that what’s behind that door is our future child.” Vanessa explained in a hushed voice, as though she didn’t want to say it too loudly. Finral frowned a bit.
“ Scared if you say it too loudly it’ll come true?” He asked her with a sheepish laugh, Vanessa turned to look at him and gave a small laugh.
“ Yeah a little bit.” She admitted, Finral laughed a bit as well.
“ Same here.”
Soon the two were standing in front of the Wizard Kings office, neither one could remember ever being here before so they were very nervous. Finral let out an audible gulp, not only was he nervous about who was beyond that door but he was also nervous as to what Captain Yami would say when he found out. Just the thought of it made Finral pale.
“ Y-Y’know what? I think I left the stove on back at the Hideout. I'll just go back home and check.” Finral said as he opened up a portal to led back to the Hideout, but before he could even think of walking through it Vanessa grabbed the back of his cloak.
“ Yeah you’re not getting out of this one that easily, besides I’m with you so there’s nothing to be afraid of or nervous about.” Vanessa told him with a warm and confident smile, Finral groaned and reluctantly closed the portal. He had to admit whenever he was with Vanessa it did make him a bit braver and more confident.
The guard opened the Wizard Kings office doors and announced the Black Bulls had arrived before exiting the room. Vanessa and Finral looked at each other briefly before turning to look at the Wizard King, his Aide Marx, and a pink haired boy who stood slightly off to the side.
“ Finral, Vanessa, welcome! I apologize we called you here without Captain Yami but we figured he would like a small break from all of this.” Julius said with a small laugh, Finral and Vanessa nodded almost robotically as they just stared at the pink haired boy. He couldn’t be any older then 15, his pink hair was shoulder length and partially tied into a ponytail, he wore a Black Bulls robe and underneath was a wine red suit and boots with a black shirt. He also wore a pair of dark red earrings. His purple eyes finally looked to meet theirs.
“ A-Are you,” Finral stammered slightly, he looked as white as a sheet as he turned to face Julius and Marx. “ Are you sure he isn’t just Vanessa’s kid? I-I mean, he looks almost identical to her.” Finral added, maybe they had the wrong guy for his father?
“ Oh no he’s definitely your son.” Julius said with a small laugh, causing Finral to frown. What did that mean? Suddenly Finral and Vanessa felt themselves being hugged tightly by the young man.
“ Mom, dad, thank the gods you came to rescue me!” The boy cried as he held them tightly. “ I don’t know what they would have done to me if you hadn’t shown up! I think I even saw my life flash before my eyes!” He continued to cry before pulling back to look his ‘parents’ in the face.
“ W-Wait,” he said suddenly as his eyes widened in surprise, he looked back and forth between Vanessa and Finral. “ What the hell?!” He shouted as he sprang back and landed flat on his butt, he pointed a finger as he looked at them.
“ W-Who the heck are you?! You look like my parents but you’re way too young to actually be my parents!” Ezio said, his voice steadily getting higher. Finral looked over at Vanessa and he could see the complete surprise on her face.
“ I thought you had a feeling this is why we were brought here?!” Finral asked her incredulously, his voice suddenly being high pitched as well, Vanessa blinked and looked over at him.
“ I did. But it’s one thing to think it and another to actually see it.” Vanessa pointed out as she shook her head, trying to clear the surprised look off her face. Finral opened his mouth to argue but quickly closed it as he realized she was right, there was a difference.
“ As we already explained to you,” Marx said, addressing the pink haired boy. “ you are in the past so your parents are younger now than they were in your original time. Didn’t they explain this to you already?” He asked with a raised eyebrow.
“ Not really. They pretty much told me to just go through the portal, that they didn’t have much time to explain.” He said as he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. Julius placed a thoughtful hand under his chin, that was another common theme between the children, that their parents were rushing to send them through a portal and didn’t have time to explain. As he thought about it he noticed the boy had stood up and Vanessa had walked over to him.
“ Y’know, you really are a cutie.” She said with a small laugh, causing the boy to blush a deep shade of red.
“ C-C-Cutie?!” He stammered in surprise before she continued and wrapped an arm around his shoulders and pulled him close, you could tell by the look in her eyes that she was teasing him.
“ I bet you’re a real hit with the ladies, and maybe some of the guys too.” She told him before she thought about it for a moment. “ Unless you inherited your flirting skills from your father.”
“ What’s that supposed to mean?!” Finral shouted before Vanessa turned to look at him.
“ That means your flirting sucks.” She told him deadpan, causing an almost outrageously surprised look to appear of Finral’s face.
“ Excuse me?! I’ll have you know I’m an absolute hit with the ladies!” Finral began shouting in a high pitched and almost disbelieving voice, as Julius watched the interactions between them he noticed the pink haired boy began to relax and saw the slow realization that these were in fact his parents, just younger.
“ Don’t you think it’s about time you introduced yourself?” Julius asked the boy after a few minutes, the pink haired boy blushed a bit in embarrassment as he realized he hadn’t told them his name.
“ Ah yes, sorry about that.” He laughed before clearing his throat. “ My name’s Ezio Roulacase, it’s nice to meet you!” He added, giving a bit of a dramatic bow. Vanessa and Finral frowned a bit before placing thoughtful hands under their chins as they looked at him.
“ Hm, I think Ezio fits you perfectly, don’t you think Finral?” Vanessa asked as she turned to look at him, who nodded in agreement.
“ Yeah it really does fit him I think. Well, it’s nice to officially meet you, Ezio!” Finral said with a cheerful smile.
“ Now that introductions are out of the way, here are the directions to the temporary house you’ll be staying at with the others.” Marx told them before he began to explain where the house was that the others were staying at.
———
Yami pinched the bridge of his nose as he watched all the ‘families’ talk, mingle, and get to know each other outside. He had been a bit surprised when Noelle and Asta showed up with three kids and a devil, he had a small feeling that Noelle had a crush on Asta but he figured the kid was too dense to ever realize it. But as he watched Asta talking and doing a workout with his eldest daughter, while Noelle sat and talked with the two younger ones, he realized that they actually made a cute family. But then again, as he looked around at the other Black Bulls, he realized they all made cute families. Except for Zora, he and Nebra still couldn’t seem to get along. Not even for their kids sake.
“ What are you thinking about?” Yami turned at the sound of a familiar voice and smirked a bit when he saw it was Charlotte.
“ Eh nothing much, just thinking about how weird it is to see all of these kids with kids of their own.” He told her, nodding towards the younger squad members. Charlotte nodded in agreement.
“ True, it is a bit jarring to see kids with, well, kids of their own. Especially considering how some of the kids are around the same age as them.” Charlotte said, Yami nodded in agreement before the two fell into a comfortable silence for a moment.
“ Y’know,” Yami said suddenly, causing Charlotte to look at him. “ As weird as it is to see them with kids of their own and seeing how happy the mini knuckleheads are, it kind of makes me feel like I must’ve done something right as their Captain.” Yami finished as he rubbed the back of his head.
“ You’ve done a lot right as their Captain,” Charlotte told him firmly. “ I may not always agree with your methods, but I think you’re an excellent Captain. You gave those kids someone to look up too and admire, you gave them a home when they needed one, you gave them a family and friends that they can lean on and support. That’s my honest opinion.” Charlotte finished with a firm nod and a bit of a blush on her face, she couldn’t believe she said all of that too Yami!
“ Aw the Prickly Princess does have a soft side.” Yami joked, causing her to turn an even deeper shade of red.
“ O-Of course I do! Just because I don’t tend to show it very often doesn’t mean I don’t have a softer side!” She told him as she glared at him slightly.
“ Sheesh sorry I was just teasing you.” Yami said as he held his hands up in surrender, he smiled a bit before bringing one of his hands down and placing it gently onto her shoulder. “ But thank you for the compliment Princess, you’re not a bad Captain yourself.”
Charlotte blinked in surprise at Yami’s compliment, she smiled a bit as she looked down at her lap somewhat shyly. She wasn’t used to compliments let alone ones from Yami, but she had to admit it made her heart skip a beat when he acknowledged she was a good Captain too.
“ By the way,” Charlotte said after they fell into silence once again. “ you’ve been sitting here watching Alistar and Hikari for a while. What do you think of Alistar?” She added curiously as she noticed the two talking by the side of the house. She heard Yami make a disapproving grunt and she couldn’t help but chuckle.
“ I think he’s hiding something, his Ki and body language prove that. He’s been trying his best to hide, or at least mask, it from me and Hikari. But I can still tell.” Yami said as he pulled out a cigarette, Charlotte tilted her head.
“ Do you think Hikari’s noticed?”
“ Probably,” Yami said with a small nod before taking a drag of his cigarette. “ whether she’s acknowledging it or not is a different story. But I’m sure she’s noticed.” He added as he let the smoke from the cigarette out of his mouth, she noticed a protective look on his face and began to laugh softly.
“ You’re very protective of her,” she said as her soft laughter began to stop. “ but I think she’ll be fine Yami, I trust her and her judgement.” She began to laugh again when Yami blushed a bit and just grumbled under his breath.
“ It’s not just him I’m suspicious of though, I’m also suspicious of Princess Brooding Pants over there.” Yami said as he nodded towards the dark haired girl, Miku Charlotte believed her name was, and she frowned a bit as well.
The girl had completely separated herself from everyone else, even her ‘parents’. She sat underneath a tree with a book and just kept to herself. Charlotte wasn’t too surprised seeing as her parents could be the same way, but it was still a bit odd, especially when the other kids had asked her to play or train with them and she outright refused without even looking up from her book.
“ Do you think she’s hiding something as well?”
“ Oh I know she is, but it’s not like Golden Boy, while he’s actively trying to hide his Ki, she isn’t.” Yami said as he took another drag of his cigarette, Charlotte went to open her mouth when Gauche suddenly yelled.
“ Hey heads up! Incoming!” When the Captains turned and saw three people on brooms flying towards them. As they began to get into a defensive position Yami realized he recognized at least two of them.
“ It’s alright, it’s just Vanessa and Finral.” Yami said with a sigh of relief as the three people landed safely on the ground and began to walk towards them.
“ Hey Captain Yami!” Vanessa shouted happily as she waved at him and the others. “ Looks like this is where everyone ran off too huh?” She added as she looked around at all the familiar, and some unfamiliar, faces.
“ Who’s the kid?” Yami asked as he pointed at Ezio, who almost instantly paled as Yami directed his attention his way.
“ Oh, well, this is our son Ezio. Apparently he came from the future as well.” Finral explained sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“ You all need to stop having kids.” Yami muttered as he seemed to age instantly at Finral’s words. Charlotte smiled sympathetically as she patted him on the back in a vain attempt to comfort him.
“ Josslyn! My love!” Ezio suddenly shouted as his eyes landed on the pink haired girl that came walking towards him, without hesitation he ran and tried to capture her in his arms. Without missing a beat she dodged him easily, causing him to land flat on his face.
“ And here I thought I would finally get a break from you.” Josslyn said with a disappointed sigh and a shake of her head.
“ You’re so mean Joss.” Ezio cried dramatically before he turned to see Hikari walking towards him. “ Hikari! You’re here too!”
“ Hey Ezio,” She said as the pink haired boy wrapped her in a hug.
“ At least someone’s happy to see me.” He muttered as he glared at Josslyn, who only ‘hmphed’ in response.
Alistar looked around at the group of people that had gathered from his spot by the house. He began to count the children one by one, there was only meant to be 10 total but Miku suddenly showing up gave them a total of 11. He still couldn’t quite figure out how, or why, she was here. Even after speaking with her privately he didn’t get a clear answer. He let out a soft sigh before pushing himself off the side of the house and began walking towards the others. Since everyone was gathered now, it was finally time to tell them everything. As he opened his mouth suddenly a small portal opened up, a portal he recognized to be Marx’s.
“ Sorry for the sudden intrusion, and I’m sure Finral, Vanessa, and Ezio just arrived there, but we need all of you to come back to the Castle for an urgent matter.” Marx explained quickly.
“ Why? What’s going on now? I swear if you tell me it’s another kid-.” Yami growled before Marx quickly cut him off.
“ It isn’t another child! But it is someone’s parent, well, I think it’s their parent.” Marx muttered before he was suddenly pushed out of frame by someone.
“ Hello Vanessa, it’s been a while.” The Witch Queen said with a small smirk as she watched the surprise flash across everyone’s faces.

The meeting room was shocked into silence. They had just witnessed a friend, a colleague, and arguably one of the most powerful mages in the country be cut down by an unknown enemy. No one knew what to say. Especially to Miku, his ‘daughter’ who was sobbing beside her ‘parents’ after having relived what was probably the worst night of her life. Everyone just either stared up to where the memory had been shown, or they looked down in thought.
After a few more minutes of silence Miku dashed out of the meeting room, her sobs echoing down the hallway as she ran.
“ Miku!” Brielle shouted as she went to give chase but her sister, Mizuki, grabbed her arm. The short silver haired girl just shook her head at her sister's confused look. Neva let out a soft sigh before turning to look out the doors.
“ Don’t worry, I’ll go see if she’s ok. Yuno,” Neva turned to look at her friend and let out a soft gasp.
Yuno was pale, his eyes wide and staring down at the ground. There was a bit of sweat on his forehead, he had his hands clenched as he stared down at the ground beneath his feet. Neva gently placed a hand on his shoulder, causing the dark haired boy to jump and look at her, it had been a while since she had seen this look on his face; Yuno was afraid. It had to be shocking seeing yourself die but at the same time absolutely terrifying.
“ I’m fine,” Yuno told her softly after the two just looked at each other, the dark haired boy shook his head as though to clear his thoughts. “ go make sure Miku’s ok. I’ll fill you in on the rest of the meeting later.” He added with a forced smile. Neva knew he was lying but she knew better than to call him out on it, she gave him a small nod before following Miku out the door.
After the door closed behind the platinum blonde haired girl, Alistar let out a somewhat aggravated sigh.
“ Well, that memory gave us absolutely nothing.” He muttered as he rested his chin atop his clasped hands, the others frowned at him while the Witch Queen stared at him curiously.
“ Why do you say that? Her memories gave us more information than what we had before, did it not?” Hikari asked with a small frown, Alistar nodded.
“ It did. But it didn’t give us the information we needed, such as who killed the King of Spade as well as wiped out the entire country, all it showed us was that they used a form of Shadow or Dark magic. If we go on that information alone it could be anyone,” Alistar said in aggravation. “ for all we know, from what little we saw it could easily have been anyone, including Captain Sukehiro, Vice Captain Nacht Faust, or even you Hikari.” Alistar added, his tone slightly sharper than he intended.
“ Hey Golden Boy, watch your tone.” Yami warned with a dangerous look in his eye, Alistar nodded before sighing again. He wasn’t accusing them of anything, he knew none of them would even think of doing something like that. But he was trying to make a point, he was trying to show that there was many suspects out there that could be the culprits.
“ So basically, you put a 12 year old girl through hell for no reason? Sheesh I heard you could be cruel but I didn’t know you were that cruel.” Josslyn said coldly as she cut him a look, Alistar looked at her as well, his stare as cold as ice.
“ Need I remind you who you’re speaking to Josslyn?” He asked her coldly, Josslyn smirked and tilted her head.
“ Do I look like I care?” She asked. “ You made her relive the worst night of her life for nothing, you didn’t see the person that took her family away, you didn’t find us a way to get back home, hell you didn’t even get us any closer to finding out why we were sent back!” The pink haired girl snapped.
“ I already know why we were sent back!” Alistar snapped back, standing up and staring the younger girl down. He noticed the surprised look on her face and that's when he realized what he had said, he looked around the room and saw everyone staring at him in shock and surprise.
“ You,” Hikari started softly, her brow furrowed in confusion. “ You knew why we were sent back this entire time, and you didn’t say anything?” Alistar sighed in defeat before sitting back down.
“ I told you Hikari, I would explain everything when everyone was together.” He muttered.
“ Well everyone’s ‘together’ now, so start spilling.” Yami almost demanded, causing the white haired boy to flinch at the harshness of his tone.
Alistar looked around and saw everyone staring at him expectantly. He looked down at the table in thought for a moment, he was debating how much he should tell them. There wasn’t really a reason to keep things from them now, as far as his mission and what he knew. He looked up again and leaned back in his seat.
“ The threat we saw in Miku’s memory, the Captains and Wizard King all knew about it. Well, they didn’t know about it, but they began to get a feeling something dangerous was coming when we lost touch with Spade and our scouts. So the Captain’s, fearing the worst, decided to create a sort of ‘safety measure’. A while back they found a Time Gate in the basement of the Clover Castle, and instead of destroying it they decided to keep it hidden just in case they would ever need to send someone back with it.”
“ Once the scouts confirmed that the Captains and Wizard Kings' worst fears were true, that some dangerous threat had wiped out the Kingdom and appeared to be heading to Clover, they enacted their safety plan. Which was to gather the strongest and smartest of the next generation and send them back in time, to a time before this ‘darkness’ appeared.” Alistar concluded softly with his eyes closed.
“ So our parents sent us back to stop this ‘darkness’ or whatever from happening in the first place, right?” Ezio asked nervously, Alistar shook his head.
“ Funnily enough, no that wasn’t the reason.” He laughed humorlessly before opening his eyes and looking around. “ They wanted to ensure our survival. If things were to go south and the entire Clover Kingdom were to be lost, they wanted to me sure we, their children, survived. That’s why they sent all of us, the strongest and smartest of the kids, because they knew we would all survive.”
The room fell into silence at the weight of Alistar’s words. The children's parents knew the threat was bad and that there was a good chance they wouldn’t survive, so they wanted to do whatever that had to in order to make sure their children were alive and safe. It was admirable. They all had only known their ‘children’ for a few days to a week at most, but they were all willing to do the same if they had to make a similar choice.
“ I’m curious Alistar,” Julius said calmly yet with a slightly curious tone after a few moments. “ why would the Captains and Wizard King trust you of all people with this information? Plus, some of this information seems slightly confidential.” He watched as the boys eyes widened slightly before Aloys Adlai, who had been silent during the entire meeting, let out a snort.
“ Isn’t it obvious? It’s because he’s-.” He started irritatedly before he was suddenly cut off.
“ How do we go back?” Hikari asked softly, surprising everyone.
“ I’m sorry? Did you not just hear him, or see what happened to Spade? Whatever it was scared our parents so bad that they literally sent us to a completely different time! Do you really think it’s a wise decision to go back there?” Ezio asked, his voice slightly going higher with each word. Hikari nodded.
“ Yes I do. If we can get back to our time, maybe we can stop this ‘darkness’ or whatever it is before it reaches Clover, maybe we can help our parents defeat it.” Hikari said hopefully, she knew deep down that it was probably too late for that, that her friends and family, her home were all gone. But she had to try!
“ Hikari-.”
“ No! I won’t have the people I love and care about sacrificing themselves trying to protect us and our home while I just sit here happy and safe in a completely different era when I can go back and help them!” She shouted, she clenched her hands into fists. She couldn’t just let them die, if she had known about all of this, if her parents or Alistar had told her then she would have refused to go without hesitation.
“ Hikari, your parents, as well as the others, did what they felt was the best option for all of you. You may not agree with it, but it was their decision and you have to know it was one they didn’t make lightly.” William said kindly.
“ Goldie Guts is right,” Yami pipped in before turning to look at his ‘daughter’. “ going back to the future now is only going to make their sacrifice in vain, I’m always up for a good fight, especially against a strong opponent, but I’m not going against something or someone I know nothing about.”
“ What if,” Charlotte said thoughtfully for a moment. “ what if we all go to the future, not to fight the enemy, but to figure out who or what it is? Like a scouting mission. We go there, gather information and identify our enemy, then we come back and defeat them here in the past.” She suggested.
“ Before they get the chance to become strong enough to wipe out entire kingdoms.” Alistar agreed with a small smirk. “ That's not a bad idea.” Everyone around the room smiled and nodded in agreement, all but one.
“ Are you sure you want to do that? For all you know it could be a trap, or the enemy could sense you before you even have a chance to get your bearings. You could be killed instantly. You’re really willing to take that risk even though the mission could easily fail and you could gain nothing?” The Witch Queen asked curiously, her head resting on her open palm. All the Magic Knights in the room nodded.
“ Whenever someone or something threatens our Kingdom, our home, the Magic Knights aren’t going to just sit back and let it happen. I know they won’t fail if they go on this mission, because they’ll train, they’ll get stronger in order to meet this enemy head on. They’ll do whatever they have to in order to protect this kingdom and its people.” Julius said proudly as he stared down the Witch Queen, who only smirked in response.
“ You sound awfully confident,” she remarked before her eyes turned dangerously dark. “ almost overconfident. That will easily be your doom if you’re not careful, Wizard King.” Julius just smiled at her in response.
“ Your enemy grows in strength every day, both now and in the future. You’ll all need to train and grow stronger if you even want to have a chance at beating your enemy. How long do you think it’ll take your people to figure out how to use the Time Gate?” The Witch Queen asked Julius.
“ Hm, I would say a week or two at the longest.” Julius said after a moment of thought.
“ Hm, I thought it would take a lot longer with your men.” The Witch Queen muttered under her breath. “ Alright then. You all, both adults and children, will train for one or two weeks and try to get stronger than you already are.” Everyone in the room looked at Julius, they only took their orders from him, and when he nodded in agreement everyone saluted him.
“ Now I suggest you all go home and get some rest, the next few weeks are going to be busy for everyone. So do your best!” Julius encouraged with a smile as everyone nodded in agreement.
Alistar was one of the last ones to stand, and as he began to follow his ‘father’ out the door the Witch Queen held up a hand to stop him.
“ You seem to be one of the, if not the most reasonable person in the room.” She started before looking up at him with serious eyes. “ So I’ll only say this once, and I’ll only say it to you.” She leaned in closer.
“ Not all of you are going to make it out of this alive.”
Alistar paled instantly before the Witch Queen stood from her seat and walked over to Vanessa and Ezio. He stood there stunned for a moment at this information, he recalled Ezio telling him at one point that his grandmother could see the future, so was she hinting at one of his friends' fates? No, he shook his head, he was going to make sure all of his friends and their parents made it out of this alive!
“ Are you alright?” William asked, his eyes concerned at the look on his ‘sons’ face. Alistar was pulled out of his thoughts and he nodded almost automatically. His warm smile appeared on his face again.
“ I’m fine.” He answered simply before walking out, William frowned as he watched him walk away. It was truly funny how much like him Alistar was, the mask that boy wore was just like, except William’s was visible while Alistar’s was not.

As the group walked out of the meeting room everyone talked softly amongst themselves about what they should do next and how they should start training. Yuno was the only one who remained silent as he stayed towards the back of the group, the image of himself dying, of watching as all the people he swore to protect attacked him and Miku, all of the memories played and replayed in his mind.
“ Hey Yuno, you ok?” Asta asked as he slowed to walk next to his friend and foster brother, Yuno was pulled out of his thoughts and he nodded.
“ I’m fine Asta.”
“ You don’t look fine. I can’t even imagine what you’re going through right now. I mean watching that and then watching your own kid go through all of that horror on top of it. Y’know, it’s alright to not be fine. I know for sure I wouldn’t be.” Asta told him kindly before he noticed his friend had stopped to look at something through the window. When Asta looked he noticed it was Miku and Neva sitting by a fountain. Neva was holding Miku, consoling her as it appeared the young girl was still crying. As Asta went to say something he noticed Yuno had a strange look on his face.
The dark haired boy had sadness in his eyes, but also something else, it was an emotion that Asta couldn’t quite figure out. It was a warm look, one that Yuno only ever had on his face when he went back to Hage and was with the people he loved and cared about the most.
“ Yuno, are you feeling alright?” Asta asked curiously, he watched as his friend's face suddenly turned a soft shade of pink before he looked away from the window.
“ I told you I’m fine.”
“ Well I don’t believe you!” Asta shouted loudly before the two friends began to bicker back and forth as they normally did.
Tomorrow they would have to start training again, just like they did when they confronted the Spade Kingdom and their devils. Except, instead of having six months, they only had two weeks.

William glanced over his shoulder at the two members of his squad, Yuno and Neva, and their ‘daughter’ Miku. This wasn’t what he had been expecting when Marx asked him to come up to the castle as there was something he needed to see, but Yami seemed to have an inkling because he had the smuggest grin on his face and was almost too happy about William getting a call from Marx. That should have been his first clue as to what was going on.
After Marx had met him at the doors and explained the situation William had been expecting the members to be either Klaus or even Alecdora, but insteadWilliam had been very surprised to see that it was in fact Yuno and Neva. Those were the last two he had thought of when Marx was telling him the details, but after seeing the young girl and seeing his two squad members there was no denying that she was their daughter. She looked like Neva but with black hair, her serious face was a perfect blend of Yuno’s and Neva’s, but she appeared to carry herself more like Yuno then Neva. This was interesting.
“ Is everyone alright?” William asked as he glanced over his shoulder, the three nodded but remained silent. Apparently they were all still trying to process this information, it was no secret that Yuno and Neva had a crush on each other, but it seemed the only ones who didn’t know about this, were the two in question. William let out a soft sigh before walking out the castle doors and walking towards the brooms.
“ Captain, where exactly are we going?” Neva asked as she grabbed one of the brooms, Yuno began to use his wind magic to make himself a transportation vessel. Miku looked between the two before walking towards Neva and her broom, apparently she wasn’t very comfortable flying using wind magic.
“ We have a house not too far from here that we’ve all been staying in the past few days, just until we’ve gotten things sorted out with the children and how to get them back home.” William explained simply before stepping onto his broom, Neva did the same as Miku sat behind her and wrapped her arms around the blonde haired woman's middle, and Yuno summoned his wind vessel.
“ ‘We’ve’?” Both Neva and Yuno said at the same time, just how many people were there?
———
They all landed softly outside the house a few moments later and walked up to the door, dread was steadily filling William. He knew Yami was going to enjoy this too much, especially since so far every child had been connected to the Black Bulls in some way. He opened the door slowly and looked inside, some of the kids appeared to be at the dining table while others were in the common room. Zora and Nebra were on two opposite ends of the common room, would there come a time those two could look past their differences? Even if it was only for Ace’s sake? William didn’t know at this point. Charlotte and Yami were sitting at the dining table with Alistar and Hikari, all of them appeared to be having a pleasant conversation. Except Yami continuously glared at Alistar, probably because of what Zora said yesterday.
“ Y’know Captain,” Neva started as she looked around the house. “ when you said ‘we’ I was kind of assuming there would be a few people but not-.”
“ Almost an entire squad.” Yuno finished as he looked around himself, William let out a soft chuckle before nodding in agreement.
“ Yes, I guess you could say we’re slowly becoming our own squad. But we make it work.” William shrugged before everyone finally seemed to take notice that there were new people in the house.
“ Hah! Finally, Goldie Guts is going through what I’ve been going through the past few days!” Yami said with a shout of laughter, William chuckled as he walked towards the dining table.
“ Yes the universe decided to finally take pity on you and give you a small reprieve from the future children.” William said, Yami grumbled something under his breath as Hikari and Charlotte also began to laugh softly. Alistar frowned and looked around his father to see who it was and his eyes widened slightly; it was his Auntie Neva and Yuno, which meant it was one of three possible children.
The white haired man stood up and tried his best to look around the two Golden Dawn members to see which child it was, but they were hiding behind their ‘parents’ legs all too well. From what he could see it was a girl, which left two options and he had a feeling he knew which of the two it was.
“ Miku? Is that you?” He called out softly, he watched as the girl poked her head between her parents to look and see who was calling her and she blinked when her eyes landed on the young man.
“ Oh, hi Alistar.” The girl said softly as she moved to stand in front of her parents.
Hikari turned to look at Alistar and frowned; he had relief in his eyes, but he also held confusion and genuine surprise. She turned to look back at the young 12 year old girl, Hikari had only interacted with her a few times so she didn’t know her that well, but she seemed surprised as well, except she was better at hiding it then Alistar.
The white haired man walked away from the dining table and moved to stand in front of Miku, he crouched down in front of her. The two just stared at each other silently as everyone else looked on curiously, it was as though the two were speaking telepathically.
“ What are you doing here?” They asked in unison, apparently neither one had expected to see the other here. Alistar frowned a bit before standing and holding out his hand, Miku looked at him with a frown.
“ I need to talk to you a bit outside if that's ok?” He asked politely and with a soft warm smile, Miku rolled her eyes and walked past him.
“ Of course it’s alright, but I’m not a kid anymore so I don’t need to hold your hand.” She grumbled, Alistar let out a small chuckle before following the girl out of the house.
Everyone just stood there in confusion, completely unsure of what just happened. The two seemed to know each other pretty well, but it still felt like everyone had missed out on some big piece of information that only those two seemed privy to.
“ Alistar and Miku are ‘cousins’ not by blood but more like by choice,” Hikari began to explain. “ since Captain Vangeance and Neva have a sibling-like relationship, Alistar and Miku, along with Miku’s siblings, have adopted a familial relationship as well. So they affectionately call each others ‘cousin’ as well as call Captain Vangeance ‘Uncle William’ and Alistar calls Neva ‘Auntie Neva’.” Hikari added with a shrug, everyone’s confusion seemed to clear slightly, but not completely.
“ Miku’s siblings?” Neva and Yuno once again asked at the same time before they both seemed to pale, this was beginning to be too much for them to handle. They could take down a devil and invade a kingdom set on destroying and taking over the continent and be perfectly ok, but finding out they had children together? Nope, that was the straw that broke the camel's back.
“ Erm, oops?” Hikari said with a nervous laugh, she had said more than she had meant too. Charlotte stood suddenly before looking at Yami and William.
“ I would actually like to speak with you two privately as well.” She said, The two Captains in question looked at each other before nodding and following behind Charlotte as she walked down one of the hallways of the house.
As the Captains left everyone just stood there awkwardly, not really sure of what to do now, since it appeared everyone was having secret conversations.
“ So, nice weather we’re having huh?”
———
Hikari frowned as she watched Alistar and Miku talk, she was watching them through the kitchen window as she assumed they would hear her if she stepped outside. She wondered what on earth they could be talking about, especially since it appeared to be a private conversation. Did it have to do with what Alistar told her a few days ago? About why they had been sent back? If so, then why was Miku sent back as well? It made no sense, especially since she wasn’t-.
“ Y’know,” Josslyn said suddenly, accidentally startling Hikari. She had been so lost in thought she hadn’t sensed the girls Ki or heard her approach. “ There’s something very strange going on with Pretty Boy and the little Princess.” She added.
“ Strange? What do you mean?” Hikari asked, feigning slight ignorance. The pink haired girl scoffed, clearly seeing through Hikari’s lie.
“ You know exactly what I mean, you and Pretty boy are having secret conversations late at night, he’s wearing a normal magic knight's robe instead of his Captain's one, he dodges every question about himself and why he’s here. He’s acting stranger than usual. As though he knows something.” Josslyn said with slight irritation, Hikari could understand the girl's frustration as she was feeling the same, But.
“ We need to trust him. I’m sure he knows what’s truly going on here and why we’re being sent back. But he can’t tell us, not yet. So for now, until he can tell us, we just have to trust him.” Hikari said softly, Josslyn scoffed again.
“ Well you can trust him all you want, but I won’t. The only one I trust here is you and myself, so I guess if you trust him then I’ll trust your judgment. But if anything seems even more suspicious then what it already is, than I’m going to make him talk, willingly or unwillingly.” Josslyn said seriously, Hikari let out a sigh but nodded. She already knew how a fight between the two would turn out, and she can’t say Josslyn would win.
“ Y’know, I could sneak outside and listen to their conversation? They wouldn’t even know I was there.” The pink haired girl said after a moment of quiet fell between the two, Hikari grabbed the girl's arm before she could run off and dragged her into the kitchen.
“ Oh no you’re not. You’re going to help me with dinner.”
———
Yami sighed as he closed the door behind him, Charlotte sat down on the bed as William and Yami leaned against the walls on either side of the door.
“ So what did you want to talk about Princess?” Yami asked as he crossed his arms.
“ I’ve been wondering recently, I don’t know why I didn’t think about it before, but did you ever wonder why Lord Julius gave us this house in particular? I mean, at first it was only three of us living here and the house was too big for just three people. He could have easily given us a smaller house to stay in, but instead he chose this one.” Charlotte started curiously, Yami tilted his head.
“ Maybe he felt like we needed the space?” Yami reasoned with a shrug.
“ As much as I would like to believe that, Lord Julius is a very smart man and he plans things out pretty meticulously. So I doubt he felt that we needed a big house just for the sake of it.” Charlotte argued, William crossed his arms as well.
“ What are you saying Charlotte? You think Julius knew that this was going to happen?” He asked her, the room went deadly silent for a moment before Charlotte spoke cautiously.
“ I...I’m not sure. But it seems all the signs are pointing to that conclusion. Otherwise, why else give us this house with a bunch of rooms and with a wide open field where we could all train if we needed too.” Charlotte said, none of them wanted to believe Julius knew this was going to happen, but considering he did have time magic, maybe it was possible he saw the future or otherwise somehow knew this would be happening?
Suddenly, there was a soft knock on the door.
“ C-Captain Roselei? We need you in the kitchen, Josslyn almost burned it down.” Ace called softly before they heard him walk away. Charlotte sighed before standing and walking towards the door.
“ We keep this between us, we don’t have the full story and I could easily be wrong, but for now, I think we should assume Julius knows more than what he’s letting on.” Charlotte said before walking out of the room, William and Yami shared a look between them. They wouldn’t be completely surprised if Julius was hiding something, but that didn’t mean they still wanted it to be true. The two Captains followed Charlotte out of the room and into the kitchen.
“ Honestly? As long as my squad doesn’t have any more kids coming back, I don’t care how many come from the future.” Yami said with a laugh.
But, the universe had a twisted sense of humor as well, and Yami would find that out the hard way the next morning.
