one of the most frustrating things i've come to notice about adulthood and specifically being in "the workforce" is that there's just very little time for anything else.
i missed out on lots of skills as a kid that i'd love to invest my time and money into learning. but then i spend 8 hrs a day working and get home just wanting to turn my brain off and vegetate.
maybe im in the minority in that i feel like all my energy is gone after work. but i strongly suspect im not, especially among people with disabilities that make the average workday harder to cope with.
i was learning to ride a bike last summer. but finding the time to do a task that, for me, was very nerve-wracking and intensive for my whole body became very difficult.
i was hoping to take an art class this summer, but no studios nearby offer classes that fit into my work schedule.
it just stinks, i guess. i just wanted to yell into the void about it.

It's Labor Day Weekend in the US here's your annual reminder that Labor Day is supposed to be a celebration of Labor Unions and our Labor Force.
So when all they're the only ones actually working on Labor Day maybe you should leave an extra big tip and say thank you.
Also SUPPORT UNIONS AND UNIONIZATION EFFORTS.

Did you know? 🤔
The average age of a construction worker today is 42 years old.
This is one year older than the average age of a worker in the general labor force. The ongoing shortage of construction workers and an aging workforce have contributed to the increase in the median age of construction workers.

Just saw a TikTok of someone upset that two different fast food restaurants in their are were closed due to staffing. This is the same type of people that tell those employees to get a real job, they deserve min wage cause it isn't a real job. Then when they do get a better job, they get mad cause they can't get their fast food. The irony is delicious.

Mexico's gender gap in the labor force persists, impacting the economy and social welfare. Despite progress, women face disparities in salaries, job types, and pensions. Claudia Goldin's Nobel Prize sheds light, urging comprehensive efforts for true gender equality.

The workers who say their migrant status has been ‘weaponized’ against them
“More than one million workers in California are undocumented, making up 6% of California’s workforce and contributing $3.7 bn towards the state’s tax revenue, according to a University of California, Merced, report released in March. They also play a crucial part in the labor force, filling one in 16 jobs, especially in manufacturing, food service, construction and agriculture. Yet these workers are not eligible for unemployment benefits, making it more likely that they’ll end up working in exploitative or high-risk environments.
“The UC Merced report found that undocumented migrants in California were eligible for $1,700 in state and federal assistance in the first year of the pandemic, compared with $35,000 for residents who were also US citizens. Immigrants made up 58% of pandemic-related deaths in California’s deadliest industries – agriculture, landscaping and food processing – between March and December 2020.
“The data is not broken down for undocumented migrants, but activists who work with them say they have been especially vulnerable – particularly women, whose Top 10 occupations in the US all involve in-person work, such as cleaning, childcare and hospitality work.”

anyone else have multiple traumatic memories associated specifically with holidays/family vacations? because that is a topic I never see discussed in all the So You Had A Shitty Childhood, Now What? self-help books i've been reading. but for me, it was a significant thing. and the more i think about it the more it seems like this would be an (unfortunately) common experience. would be grateful to hear if this matches other peoples' experiences...
#not a shitpost#serious post#ask to tag#tw trauma#cptsd#c-ptsd#and if so we should TALK about it#because it means there are a whole group of survivors out there whose mental health regularly worsens during holidays#like i know i am most certainly not the only person who feels an undefined Dread hanging over christmas/my birthday/july 4 etc#bc too many shitty things happened during those times and now my brain is hypervigilant bc traditionally these are the Danger Times#and this seems like it would be particularly common for survivors of abusive/dysfunctional households (aka most people with c-ptsd)#because holidays/vacations typically mean 1) the whole family is together/being forced to interact#2) and undergoing external stressors e.g. travel/relatives aka 'outsiders' visiting/routines & coping mechanisms being interrupted etc#3) there is social pressure for this to be a Fun Family Bonding Experience which only highlights the cracks in the foundation#and exposes the common Everything Is Fine/We Are A Happy Family lie#4) the cognitive dissonance of feeling tired/anxious/stressed/afraid during a time when you are 'supposed' to be Making Good Memories#and then everyone is angry/tired/anxious/triggered and things boil over and something or someone goes Very Wrong#weird that i'm posting this in october when halloween is...sort of the ONLY holiday i have only good and happy feelings towards#i got lucky there#also i have positive feelings towards Labor Day but that's for socialist reasons

The brief’s key findings are:
The labor force participation of prime-age workers has been declining steadily in recent decades.
One reason may be the growing concentration of employers in local labor markets, which can lower wages by reducing competition for workers.
The analysis finds that, indeed, markets with higher employer concentration are more likely to have lower labor force participation rates.
The results also show that when workers have their own bargaining power through unions to counteract employer concentration, this relationship is weaker.
