Hello! I saw you were doing match-ups for Hazbin Hotel and wanted to give it a whirl!

I'm AFAB, and use she/her pronouns. I do have a preference for males, but I wouldn't mind being paired with one of the female characters in the show.

Personality wise... I'm an introvert and do prefer time to myself, but I love hanging out with my friends and family immensely. I hold them very closely to my heart and would do A LOT for them. I'm a music lover and have a preference for rock/alternative music. I'm also a bit of a smart-ass and can't stand bs, lol. I will gently call people out for being hurtful or dumb, or both. I also have a soft spot for animals of all kinds. They literally deserve the world. 😫

My style is more casual and comfy?? Like leggings, sweatpants, fuzzy socks, a nice fitting tank top, with a hoodie or sweater on. I have been wanting to get into more styles like Y2K Grunge and Goth, but haven't found pieces that would fit me. (I'm a bit curvy and have a hard time finding stuff that won't suffocate me)

My main love languages are Quality Time and Acts of Service. I just love the idea of making food together or doing chores while listening to some music. Singing along, either seriously or goofily, lol.

My hobbies are mainly daydreaming, singing and dancing, and listening to music. I used to draw but haven't in YEARS. I have thought about getting back into it, but am kind of apprehensive about it. It just brings back a lot of anxiety.

Vox loves your introverted-ness, it’s a contrast to his life that’s mostly spent on set or through a screen, his time with you feels so much more real, cause more often than not it’s just you and him, also your comfy style makes him feel very safe and at home haha

it just two episodes so I’m not really too harsh. Animation looks really good, but man no wonder this took 4-5 years they had 4 animation studios working on it plus bentos joint company princess bento that’s operates Australia. So you got bento+SH+toon city and princess bento yeah their budget got fucked

the writing drag this show and it’s so confusing. there’s 6 fucking minutes of exposition dump and lore in the first episode. This is not welcoming to newcomers, especially adult animation you never exposition the shit out the audience with a bedtime story unless you’re target demographic are kids. Character spend so much sitting on couches and talking about nothing. Adam and Valentino are the absolute worse characters but I think Valentino is more egregious since he was hyped so much and he was the biggest letdown and he’s voice is awful I’m sorry to VA.

So what is Charlie’s goal again? Is to fix overpopulation by redeeming demons and sending them to heaven? Give demons a second chance? Or make her mom proud, and empower demons through song? All of the above? Why send demons to heaven when her mom was all about rising above heaven? She is kinda annoying, I hate how stupidly naive and childish she is but I guess that her flaw and her development will be that she has to grow up, but I don’t want to do the writers job where you’re given nothing and have to fill in the blanks.

So Angel moved out but he still works for Valentino, but the show is making it seem like he quit and is hiding out in the hotel but is gonna return to Valentino soon? Why is so easy for Angel to leave and ignore Valentino? Oh wait I forgot it’s because Valentino is a fucking idiot, literally just Stella 2.0. I just hate everything that come out of Angels mouth I forgot how annoying being sexual doesn’t mean witty or confident and just because he’s a porn star doesn’t mean he has to always sexual harass men, and it’s not even the good flirty, it’s bad flirty, but I know they’re gonna go hard on his musical scenes.

I miss pilot Vaggie she still supported Charlie but was also very cautious and a bit controlling but it made her more interesting and flawed and set up dynamics her instead of just being supportive gf aka Millie 2.0. Husk was barely in the episodes, nifty and that cat thing are just there to be cute.

Vox and Vel are really entertaining but they put up with Valentino when be’s the dumbest and least incompetent out the trio and Vox hates being around him. He’s duet with alastor is really fun and kinda wish he had a show on these two than Charlie.

The music is alright not something I’d listen to on Spotify but it’s alright. Overall it was ok, there’s just no charm to it

yeah i agree with most of these points.

animation- shifts a lot between good and bad for me and i think that's mostly due to the over-designed characters, there have been problems keeping them on-model ever since the pilot, but like you say about it being hot-potatoed between 4-5 studios juggling it, it'd be no surprise the budget got fucked, and to me the studio juggling also checks out with how varied the animation is.

writing- agree, i only ever saw the hazbin pilot and occasionally learned tidbits of lore from the critical community and i was still sitting there clueless, i can only imagine what it's like for newcomers who don't even know a *little* of the lore/history.

Charlie's goal- "Why send demons to heaven when her mom was all about rising above heaven" is such a great point. Charlie's goals and motives were so confusing to me bc i didn't really see a connection. i guess you could say this is Charlie's way of continuing her mom's goal of "protecting our people" even tho Lilith seemed to be against Heaven while Charlie is trying to work with Heaven--but as i said previously Charlie also doesn't really seem to "like" her people, as we see her repeatedly show disgust or awkwardly try to laugh off her discomfort and only shows an endearing adoration when they're showing specific change/potential. It seems like she's just extremely naively optimistic, but bc of her aversion it comes off kinda disingenuous or fake nice? she legit seems to act more like a disillusioned church-goer who thinks they're helping you than a kind princess of hell who loves her subjects despite their "depravity" ig? and like you said maybe that'll be part of her character arc, but it def feels weird so far.

Angel & Valentino- yeah the entire dynamic with them is just weird. they're supposed to be a pimp and his prostitute, but why is Val texting/voicemailing Angel like a mopey ex? Val is allegedly supposed to be this big abusive threat but he's just kind of there, and Vox just calms him down really easily? and showing the affect his verbal abuse has on Angel felt so sudden/forced in (yeah those of us "familiar" w/their dynamic know it's there--this is considering the media as a new watcher, that's stuff you're supposed to write into a show for new audiences.) i'm back-and-forth on Angel's hypersexuality/sexual harassments of other male characters bc it's true some victims can act as he does, and it makes him more believable as an asshole in hell moreso than the others, but i also don't trust Viv to handle the complicated subject of abuse with grace / respect knowing her history, and i'm already worried after she had him say his body was "made for exploiting"

Pilot Vaggie- again with the disclaimer i barely remember the pilot; in the first 2 eps Vaggie was weird. idk how to feel about it. i know you said she seemed like 100% supportive Millie 2.0--but to me i couldn't get a full grip on their dynamic. it felt like it kind of swayed back and forth between full support and skeptical support but it all went by so fast i can't make a clear distinction, so you may be right.

The VVVs- agreed that Vox and Vel were entertaining. Val was just kinda there and seemed like neither Vox or Vel wanted anything to do with him, what do they get out of Val being there? does he bring them money or power or anything?? Vox and Vel are stronger characters on their own w/o Val having to be there imo.

Music- i honestly have like...no real opinion of the music. it didn't "wow" me, but it didn't necessarily make me cringe either. it just kinda was there and was fine. i honestly might've like...unintentionally mentally checked-out for some of them. i think Vox & Al's was *probably* the best--and i say that loosely bc, again, everything went by so fast--but it also had me kind of tilting my head like why does Al even care about dishing out "the tea" about this guy?

i *guess* making your big debut "i'm back" speech after being gone for 7 years right when someone is shit-talking you is a good power move, but it just felt oddly petty or "beneath" someone like Alastor to me--i think it would've made more sense if there was a bit in the song where Alastor took some callers on the radio who asked him what he thought about Vox and *then* he makes some casual remark about how little he means to him. idk, just my impression.

Isaac Lahey Hcs

Hey gang! I started rewatching Teen Wolf again, and I want to write about one of my favourite werewolves (sorry Remus). Anyway, this ended up being kinda angsty, hope you enjoy!!

he can’t stand the taste of coffee. It’s way too bitter for him, even with milk and sugar in it

he drinks tea though. He gets a lot of headaches around the full moon, so drinking ginger tea helps sometimes, but he can’t drink too much of it. Because of that, his second favourite tea is green tea

while he didn’t love working at the graveyard, the peace and quiet was nice. It was an opportunity to just sit and listen to his music, away from anyone who wanted to judge or hurt him.

a literal heater. He’s that one guy who wears shorts and a thin coat in the dead of winter

despite this, he absolutely loves jumpers and sweaters. Especially oversized ones that he can hide in. He keeps certain ones for when he’s having a bad day, so he can just bury himself in all the soft material 

when he has a panic attack (which is often), he usually ends up grabbing one and curling up into a tight ball in the corner of his room

he makes sure that when he does, he keeps the door and window wide open. On one hand, he doesn’t want anyone to see, but his fear of being locked in far outweighs his embarrassment, and so the door stays open.

people think he’s this really sporty guy because he always takes the stairs, but it’s really because he can’t stand the idea of being trapped in the lift

after finding out about this, Scott takes it upon himself to challenge Isaac to race up the stairs. Stiles just takes the lift and meets them up/down there when they’re done

his favourite subjects in school are maths and French, because they just seem to make sense to him. For him, the numbers are easy to follow, it’s a bit like a puzzle, the logic behind it is fun

it’s for this reason he enjoys languages too. the similarities and differences between ones that have the same root language are fascinating to him, and he manages to pick them up really quickly. It was really useful when he moved to France, since he already knew a little and was more than willing to learn.

when he first met Boyd and Erica, his first thought was “oh fuck, they’re hot”, but he never said anything. He never really had the opportunity to explore his sexuality; between school, working at the graveyard, and hiding from his dad, he never really thought about it, and becoming a werewolf only added to the drama

it ended up being Erica who brought it up. It started off as a joke, just a light-hearted comment at Derek’s bus/den/hideout (literally what is that place?)

it was late, but close to the full moon. They were all way too antsy to sleep, which lead to an interesting round of late night confessions.

they cycled through the expected ones; Erica’s epilepsy, Boyd’s social anxiety, and before long they realised they all had a bit more in common than they had first realised.

that’s when Erica flippantly said “y’know, I think we would have made a pretty hot couple” “couple? Which one of us” Boyd questioned, looking between Isaac and Erica. “All three of us, duh” “oh.........oh”

and the rest is history

that was actually one of the only good parts of being with Derek, since it became kind of reminiscent of his time with his dad. He though life would get better once he left, but it was all pretty similar, what with the broken bones and emotional abuse

going with Scott was the best decision he ever made, although it’s not like he actually had much choice with Derek kicking him out the loft

for the first time ever, he actually felt like he had a home

I can’t help but feel like he was one of those kids that would just absolutely light up whenever something mundane happened

like, a bumble bee flying past him, or finding the park full of small daisies

when he was really young, his mum taught him how to make daisy chains, and he made one for everyone in his family

his dad ended up throwing his away, claiming “boys don’t play with flowers”, which resulted in an argument between him and his mum

whenever their parents would argue, Isaac’s older brother would distract him, either with a new video game, or the cool tree they could climb in the back garden

when their mum died, everything changed. Cam went to the army, and his dad...well, we know what his dad did

Cam coming home every now and then was some of the only relief Isaac had from his father. His dad wouldn’t try anything when he knew Cam was there

when Cam then died too, Isaac spent more time in that tree in the garden, but he no longer picked daisies

I think it’s only when he’s older and living in France, that he walks past a flower stall, and stops to buy a small bunch of daisies to put in his window at home

almost like some kind of memorial. A monument to his survival despite everything

And I think I'll leave it there for now!! Sorry it got a bit angsty at the end there, but I hope you enjoyed it regardless. A worn-out musician ends up embroiled in inexplicable events in a small town, and also there's a murderous zebra and fossils that want to fuck. It's a musical cinematic podcast masterpiece, I'll always be sad there's only one season.

Apocrypals - nonfiction. Two non-believers read through the Bible and try not to be jerks about it. If you're interested in theology and apocryphal texts but have no idea where to start, this is such a good place. The hosts are delightful, and have a really nice way of taking you through all the various layers of Biblical scholarly nonsense. Considerable backlog of episodes, but worth listening through from the beginning. Weirdly, there's continuity.

Til Death Do Us Blart - five poor fools watch Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 every Thanksgiving from now until the end of eternity, and report back yearly on their mental state. You may think to yourself 'wow, that doesn't sound like a good time'. It isn't, to the hosts. To anyone listening along, it's fucking hilarious. Nine episodes so far, and it's a single episode per year, so plenty of time to catch up.

Web Series

The Monument Mythos - Several seasons. surreal analogue horror alternate history of America told through a series of videos of varying format. Brilliantly absurd, fucked up, and horrifying by turns (sometimes all at once).

No Evil - ongoing animated series, made mostly by a single person. Please don't immediately wave it off because of the colorful anthropormorphic animals. The mythology is amazing, the animation is sublime, and the music is haunting. The pacing is a bit strange at first, and you may be confused at the way the plot moves, but you have to understand that it's all part of its charm. I think about No Evil way too much.

Dances Moving - you may know Brian David Gilbert from his work at Polygon, and his more recent absurdist Youtube ventures. This is from way before that! It's a fun and gradually heartwrenching musical exploration of a local dance group and what it means to move away from home. Seven short episodes.

ENA - this one is a bit more mainstream, so you may know it already. Who knows what's going on in the world of ENA? Definitely not me. Absurdism at its finest. Bizarre architecture, strange characters, if it's a metaphor I don't know what it's about, but the vibes are immaculate. Three actual episodes of varying length, apparently there's a video game set to come out soon-ish?

An Unauthorized Fan Treatise - serialized story. If you're a fan of internet drama a la Msscribe, you're going to adore it. It's a fiction story about a fictional fandom, and one massively messed up person who decides that two of the lead actors in her favorite show are secretly dating and sets out to prove it with a cited multi-chapter essay. And then it gets wild.

Comics

The Property of Hate - a wonderfully dynamic and colorful webcomic about a young girl getting chosen to become a make-believe world's Hero. Puns and wordplay galore. Absolutely delightful characters and worldbuilding. Ongoing.

Eat the Rich - a young woman goes to meet her boyfriend's extremely rich family, and learns their horrifying secret. Warning: cannibalism. 5 issues, complete.

Beanworld - impossible to describe, but I'll try. An absurdist semiabstract musing on the nature of life and cycles and community, set in a world where the rules are weirdly two-dimensional and you as a reader get weirdly invested in the routines and cycles that the inhabitants follow. And all of the main characters are cute lil bean guys. If you read anything on this list, do this one. (Linked is the only online version I could find, and it's not up-to-date. I own all the omnibuses in print. If you liked what you read here, I recommend tracking them down too.)

Short Stories (in no particular order, and certainly not all my favorites - just the ones I had bookmarked and on hand)

Bride, Knife, Flaming Horse - a young Indian woman looks for marriage in the fantastical, and finds several suitors

Fish (in 13 sections) - an obsessive unpacks a bewildering insult. Just, really fun.

Fandom For Robots - a robot discovers anime, and definitely doesn't have big feelings about it

Informed Consent Logs From The Soul-Swap Clinic - two people decide to swap bodies, for somewhat murky reasons.

The Magician's Apprentice - a young girl learns magic from her mentor. This one's about grooming. But not like that. But also a lot like that. But also it's so much more fucked up than that. (This one is a MEGA favorite, it's by Tamsyn Muir. Who you may recognize as the author of the Locked Tomb series - I'd rec that too here, if it wasn't definitely too mainstream for what I'm going for. Read this. And also read the Locked Tomb.)

The Tale of the Foolish King Who Banished Music - it's a snippet of a longer Doctor Who audio drama, but stands so nicely on its own. Unnerving little fairy tale.

The Spider - 1908 horror story about a man trying to figure out why so many men have spontaneously committed suicide in a specific hotel room. It's basically a TMA statement, in more ways than one.

Video Games

What Did Veronica Dream Of? - strange little rpgmaker puzzle game. Obtuse and weird, and I adore it. I wish I could explain why.

Secret Little Haven - point-and-click about being a trans girl on the internet in 1999. Completely nails the tone it's going for. Period-typical homo- and transphobia.

Linelith - a short (1-hour) puzzle game with no plot and no characters, and yet it contains one of the greatest plot-twists of all time. I'm begging you to play it immediately.

Lingo - puzzle game about linguistics, words, non-Euclidean goemetry, and figuring out an endless series of rules in a constantly expanding world. RIDICULOUSLY clever and good, and I've been playing it almost continuously for the last few months. It's got so much content for such a reasonable price, and the community-made maps add even more content (and are also excellent). If English isn't your first language, you may struggle, but otherwise - grab a bunch of friends and stream it. It's better with friends helping you out, I can guarantee it.

For A Change - a 1999 interactive fiction game about raising the sun in a world where words do not mean what you think they mean. If you're familiar with old text-based games, go ahead and play it - otherwise, you may want to read this transcript of a group of people playing it together instead.

Other Things

Carmilla - the classic 1800s lesbian vampire novella. I read it very recently, and it's extremely good. Absolutely delivers on the lesbian vampire premise in full gory detail, although do be aware that it was written in the context of homophobic fear.

Alberio - very fun light musical about two siren brothers reconnecting under less-than-ideal circumstances.

Mosquitoes - stage play about life and families and physics (theoretical and practical both). Very heavy topics, pulls no punches. The Boson's final monologue always wrecks me.

Ghost Quartet - musical/song cycle/experience about love, death, alcohol, and (of course) ghosts. Lots of cyclical stories and time travel weirdness. All of the songs are incredible.

Yankee and the Foreigners - music group that performs delightful upbeat covers of songs in animal onesies. Their Bare Necessities cover is a favorite of mine.

I'm sure there's lots more things I could rec (not a lot of books or movies here, huh? sorry about that. I immediately forgot everything I've ever read and watched) but these were the things that came to mind when I sat down and wrote this list, so hopefully there's something new and good for you in here!

I so rarely share my OC lore (mainly because I think it sucks) but here's what I got on my fave Bhaal-babe, Roux the Murderbard.

NB: it's probably not DnD-lore-friendly but I don't care - we're here to have fun not good grades, right?

The Dark Urge, apparently.

He's a Wood Half-Elf. How? Why? Not a clue.

In his early 30s (I debated whether to include Blood in BG events and yes)

Roux is not his name, it's the nickname one of his foster siblings gave him.

Was raised by many foster families. The one he remembered when Shadowheart healed him a little too hard what not the first or the only one. Some died by The Urge, some threw him out for being a creepy kid.

He was not as much creepy as hugely developmentally delayed due to the lack of consistent care and education. Which made even Sceleritas concerned - the Father needed a healthy, strong and smart spawn, not this.

He ended up with a family of Lathander worshippers for the longest time. He had a home, he had siblings, he was if not loved but cared for and educated. He learned to smile, laugh, hug, sing, love.

He never got higher than INT 10 mentally, but showed a knack for music and was taught instruments. Gameplay-wise he passed a lot of History and Religion checks - he learned most of those things through folk songs and prayers.

Lathander worship was not forced on him, he was free to choose. Everything felt wrong, but since he's half-elf he addressed Corellon when he had to. (it's the first thing he does on the Nautiloid in the game, so...)

Sceleritas took him away the day he came of age. There was the first murder spree after that. It was mostly The Urge, he couldn't remember half of it even before the lobotomy.

Orin hated him before she met him. She hated him even more when she met him. She was groomed to be the Chosen since childhood. Now that sorry fucker who couldn't murder shit without his butler guiding him or The Urge directly controlling him is suddenly her superior. (And constantly humming some stupid folk songs, urghhh!) Outrageous, even I agree.

Sceleritas never let Roux stay out of the Temple too long because it made The Urge weaker and let him resist it. One of the things that kept Roux out of a Temple for extended periods of time is when he started consorting with Lord Gortash. The Urge was getting weaker, Orin was getting stronger, you know the rest.

As for my Durgetash - well, I love and support all the dark and disturbing takes on that! - but in Roux's case it was whatever was left of the ginger fluffball behind The Dark Urge and whatever was left of the real Enver behind Lord Gortash desperately falling for each other. Roux fell for a passionate inventor and a visionary - brilliant mind, dubious ethics as they come - he saw in those rare moments Gortash forgot about politics and focused on the purely creative aspects of his work. Their mutual dynamic being "I could fall in love with you. - Don't you fucking dare!" They pretended it was mostly sexual, but that's a story for another post.

Now I can bring up my beloved Vault-Tec Rep. Him in the Death Shroud? Perfect. Beautiful. Stunning. I no longer have to call him Paul Eiding as a very direct nod to his VO. Our Beloved David Dwecker is married to Sheffield and they have a house in Sanctuary filled with Nuka-Cola memorabilia (for Sheffield) and collectable plates (the kind grandmothers display for our lovely Rep). They have a little sitting area set up in the carport where they hangout, smoke, and dance together to Diamond City Radio. I need this for my mental health okay?

Shaun being Autistic is something I really want to explore. I truly forget who I first saw say this but it is not an original idea by any means. I also think the poor thing would have some level of trauma from everything so exploring that is gonna be fun! (no it will not oh my god I'm going to dredge up all my childhood issues.)

OHHHH CHRISTMAS. YULETIDE. FEAST OF ST. NICHOLAS. I find the "Seth Patrick" bit SO funny in Death Shroud so that is staying but also I feel like the feast of St. Nicholas got jokingly flipped into a celebration of Nick Valentine (Same with Valentine's Day) and people are beginning to forget the correct version. Nick tolerates it with an eye roll and a wry joke about people needing to read their history books but secretly finds the whole thing funny. Ellie has a santa suit for Nick to don during "his" holiday. Also the school children in Diamond City send Nick "Valentines" on valentines day and he displays them on his corkboard.

Music. My god the Johnny Guitar bit had me by the throat during Death Shroud. Expand those music libraries! Before you know it I'm gonna give Travis a rolling ladder attached to bookcases upon bookcases of records and holotapes. I want to hear people complain about how many Andrews Sisters records survived and God why won't Travis stop playing them!

The Flavor of Goodneighbor needs to be so complex. Like a good pasta sauce. I better be so overcome by the layers and smells and textures. Better Goodneighbor and Better Third Rail are really good starts but I'm expanding the shit out of both of them I think. I want to feel like Goodneighbor truly is dangerous to be in. Being able to cross most of the town in one sprint burst isn't cutting it Bethany Esda! Make it truly baffling how Hancock knows so much about the happenings in his town.

- 8. are about the BoS and I stand by them. You will get to meet my Lone Wanderer and learn about the hierarchies a little better. I redesigned the Orders and added one I think? I have to re-sort those notes lmao. Also the piloting thing is like MAJORLY important to me because the frequency of vertibird crashes in game pissed me off to no end.

Some new Misc HCs

Diamond City is bigger and more populated, kind of in the same vein as the Goodneighbor HC. I haven't found a mod layout I like so I might end up redesigning it (Please kill me)

This is an old one from an ask! Hancock will help work the bar at the Third Rail occasionally. He's a notorious show off and his cocktails are mainly just straight liquor but he entertains the hell out of people when he dives over the bar to take orders and bother Whitechapel Charlie. There are major losses on nights he bartends due to the fact he forgets (sometimes purposefully) to take payment. Regulars know to put the cash in the tip jar so Whitechapel can collect it at the end of the night.

Another thing I'm keeping from an ancient ask, Danse wants kids. Badly. And the crushing blow of being sterile really fucks with him for a while. but he eventually comes to terms with it. He's also still touchy (as in he's always touching his partner) per that ask because I think that's cute.

I'm just going through old asks now lmao. Nick and Ellie dance together like the true father-daughter pair they are

If tpfy characters were from America, which state would represent them the best? For example, I see Hermione as a New Yorker, and I'm torn between Florida, Arizona, and Texas for Draco, Harry would be from California or Hawaii, Luna would be from Oregon, Pansy would be from Utah, Neville is from Washington, and I'm confused about the Weasley's... I want to say Texas, but they don't fit Texas. I don't really know much about Theo, so let's throw him into Alaska.

Harry: Colorado. laid back, a little bit of everything. it's got mountains, and farms, and desert. it's got big cities and small towns, which speaks to his adaptability and his overall lack of self sometimes. there's harsh landscape but made it's beautiful because of it's severity.

Ginny: Nevada. don't let the red rock mountains and the dessert fool you, this is a lush environment if you look beyond the surface which is a bit like ginny's front that she puts up for everyone else. at first glance she's vegas, but get to know her and she's the spring mountains. also wild horses live here

Hermione: I like New York for her! but a borough? maybe brooklyn? she's the lifetime new yorker who is a bit desensitized to all the batshit things going on in her own head. like the bodega rats and the guy dancing on the street corners to no music. that's just new york! she's got a crazy schedule, and she never sleeps, but that's only because there's so much that she needs to get DONE!

Draco: Connecticut. full stop. but like the blue blood, children of the revolution, ivy league legacy, kind of connecticut. He's got a yacht and a beach house and he actively talks shit about the families from Massachusetts who infiltrate the town in the summer time.

Ron: North Carolina. traditional with lots of history, but also up for anything. He can go big city without losing his rural roots. family is always a priority. the best fucking beaches around.

Padma: Virginia. actually a commonwealth, the state belongs to the people, not the state government (that's a very simplistic definition but this is a very silly game so i'm not getting into it) virginia is supposed to value democracy (their ideals) above all else. also richmond is a v cool town.

Neville: Nebraska. quiet and unassuming, minds his own business but sticks to his principles when it matters. hard working, and agriculture based, seems pretty boring until you get to know him and realize all that boring is actually *really* admirable.

Pansy: Illinois. the glitz and glam and cool factor of chicago is fun, but it's also a little morally bankrupt (lol). She's learning to appreciate the quiet, more steady parts of her.

Luna: I went back and forth on this one for a while, but i think you are right. i have to go with Oregon. Keep Portland Weird and all that. she definitely brings the special brownies to the potluck.

Theo: Montana. quiet and bit of a leave me the fuck alone attitude. appreciates solitary walks through the mountains. likes animals more than people. so sick of the grind. let him lay in a field of wildflowers and think about the universe for a few days.

i think the weasleys as a whole would be Iowa. hardworking, rural, they have enough money to get by, they're willing to try new things (like wind energy), they always try to stand up for what is right, but at the same time they value their tight knit communities.

Are you named after anyone? Nope. All I know about my naming is that my dad wanted to call me Brooke but my mom kiboshed it for the association with “babbling”.

When was the last time you cried? I was going to say last week when I had to tell my kiddos that their auntie had to put her sweet 14yo dog down. (RIP Rufus, you were a good boy and we all miss you. ☹ ) BUT then Raen mentioned crying at the premiere episode of The Last of Us and I think maybe I did too!

Do you have kids? I do indeed, a pair of boyos, 4 and 7.

Do you use sarcasm a lot? Oh god, so much. Cue me having to explain to my kids why I keep saying "great" when the thing I'm talking about most certainly is NOT great.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?  I truly don’t know how to answer this… Probably just their general vibe and whether I vibe with it?

What’s your eye color? Blue.

Scary movies or happy ending? Happy ending, but man I love a scary movie too. But if I’m just by myself picking whatever I want I would go happy ending.

Any special talents? Define special… Um, I am able to touch the tip of my nose with my tongue. I’m a really good Googler. I can type at 72 WPM. I’m super fucking good at Excel. (Somehow, I turned this into a job application to be someone’s secretary...)

Where were you born?  Northern Ontario, Canada.

What are your hobbies? Apart from fandom stuff, which is currently my biggest hobby right now, maybe home improvement/DIY and gardening. I’m pretty good at plumbing and electrical, though I used to do that stuff a lot more before having kids. For several years I ran a fashion line with a couple friends, which I’m classifying as a hobby because we never made any real money at it, but it was fun and now I have a closet full of clothes I helped design. I also take ballet lessons once a week and play in a few sports leagues in the summers.

 Do you have any pets?  Nope, none. I used to have hamsters and fish growing up. My entire family have become dog people, so I have lots of pets in my extended family (5 – now 4 – dogs, and 4 cats).

 What sports do you play/have you played? The only sport I still play with any regularity is beach volleyball, but up until a few years ago I played fastpitch (softball) which I started playing as a tween. Going all the way back, I’ve played basketball, court volleyball, badminton, field hockey and I’ve run track as well.

 How tall are you? 5'4"

 Favorite subject at school? I think the answer would have to be music for this, because I went to a performing arts high school and took music with a specialization in vocal all the way through. For the general subjects, probably Physics and Math? But I also really liked English and History.  My favourite subject in university was Astrophysics (specifically cosmology), which was one of the things I majored in.

 Dream job? I think my dream would be to live in a society where we don’t need to have “dream jobs” and just having a fair and equitable balance of doing the things we need to do to survive and the things we love to do is the goal. In this dream we all work together to achieve this goal and nobody has to feel like they've failed somehow if they aren't doing what they love to earn a living... That said, I’m really fortunate in my career to have a great work-life balance and to work with great people, so I think I am sort of living the dream in a way. My ACTUAL dream when I was younger was to be a successful musician, a performing vocalist or even a songwriter. I did try a bit, in my early twenties, but in the end took the practical path. Then for a while I dreamed of being a scientific journalist. Most recently, I considered a career switch into AI/ML and got myself certified in machine learning but in the end, I decided not to give up the sweet gig I have.

How many record players does Aziraphale own? Yessssss, I love it when people let Tenannt use his actual accent.

I can't tell if it's just the context of the opening of the season, but Crowley's love of humanity just comes through so hard in the Victorian scenes. That he helps Elspeth pull the body around, the way he smiles at her and Morag.

Oh, that reminds me that in the second ep when the angels came, he's like "you can use two books as a fly swatter, but don't worry, it doesn't work"! The fly!!!

Crowley's romance plan hinging on shelter from rain - right, the first time he met Aziraphale he wasn't thinking romantically at all, and then the second time was post-fall, he started giving Aziraphale the soppy look, then Aziraphale sheltered him from the rain. Presumably for him that was The Thing, and so he thinks (perhaps with just a subconscious connection) that they need to replicate that moment. What a dork (affectionate).

I am unconvinced by Dalrymple's rationale that his time is better spent learning more about anatomy than hunting his own cadavers. On one very Aziraphalian level, yes. On another, okay, do you pay the body hunters what the bodies are actually worth to your practice? Do you take on any of their risk or vouch for them if they get caught?

And he does get condemned for a resurrectionist per the back of the sign on the pub. Can't help but draw a parallel to Crowley - he asked innocent questions to help humanity (cut up cadavers to improve his understanding of medicine) and fell (went down in history as a criminal with blood on his hands) because of a judge, presumably, who didn't care about what he was doing, just the unfeeling law.

Um, I'm not so sure wee Morag would want to be hacked up by Dalrymple? She was just describing it as stopping people from getting into Heaven? Hang on, is this a selfish!Aziraphale parallel? In line with Dalrymple selfishly driving a bargain for her corpse rather than paying the going rate ... And what's the point of selling Morag's body to get wine so Elspeth can go out in style? She's letting Elspeth be cut up so she can have a grave herself? I am perhaps overthinking this but the flashbacks/minisodes are all taking up time that could be spent on the actual plotline of the show so I can't help but be critical of what they do with those precious minutes. There are dozens of easy ways to kill yourself in Victorian Britain. Poison is everywhere and safety regulations are practically nonexistent. You don't need to make a complicated plan to swipe laudanum and buy wine to drink with it. Crowley being drunk on laudanum: hilarious but also kind of a timewaster. We could really have just had Elspeth be like "we might as well kill ourselves" after Aziraphale fucked up her sale and then Crowley could guilt Aziraphale into giving them both money.

Give me the fic about Crowley being punished by Hell for this and then coming back to get holy water from Aziraphale without telling him! THE ANGST!

Maggie says she's not that kind of person (to have an affair) - thinking about Crowley saying later that Aziraphale is too pure of heart to be anyone's bit on the side.

Gabriel prophesying about the dead rising ... in an episode with resurrection men. (I'm not making a point here, just connecting dots.)

Crowley keeps up the light banter with Shax after she says that Hell will declare war on Aziraphale specifically and then turns on the anger for Gabriel, who he still doesn't trust for obvious reasons. He just wants to keep Aziraphale safe and he knows he can't. He cares so much about this cheerfully selfish angel who loves the Earth along with him. As much as their screen time is equivalent, I really feel like this season is Crowley's story, in a sense.

4. What’s the most challenging part about posting new/updated work? Do you find posting stressful or invigorating? 

Posting is the fun part for me! I love getting to see the fruits of my labors finally pay off. The hard part is getting a fic to the point where I really feel like it's finished. That, and having to pick tags, write A/Ns, etc.

11. What songs best capture the aesthetic of this work? Did you listen to this song while writing?

I don't usually listen to music when I write, at least not as anything other than white noise, but I think Physical by Dua Lipa is a big vibe for this fic.

13. Are there any cut lines/scenes from this work? Why did you cut them?

There aren't lines or scenes I ended up cutting from this, so in leiu of that, I offer you a sample from the next installment in the series.

Their first date had been a rooftop picnic. It was actually supposed to be an outdoor concert at Robinson park, but that had gotten scrapped because, well - it was Gotham. Then they’d rescheduled for a lovely visit to the aquarium, which also got a raincheck because, once again, Gotham.  At that point, Tim figured they’d just have to pencil something in for the next calendar year.  But then Jason - smart, sweet, impatient Jason - had tracked him down on the tail end of patrol, sat him down several stories above 9th St., procured a basket full of breakfast foods and a thermos of fresh coffee, and said into his comm, “If anyone even thinks about interrupting in the next hour, I will personally fill all of your shoes with peanut butter.” They watched the sunrise while exchanging bites of chocolate croissant and it was the best date Tim had ever been on in his life. On their second date, Jason picked Tim up on his motorcycle and drove them to the Gotham History Museum where he let Tim curl a hand around his elbow and regurgitate all the Mesopotamian fun facts he’d learned in his childhood as they strolled through the gallery. It was tied for the best date he had ever been on in his life. And after Jason drove him back to his apartment, he laid a hand soft against Tim’s jaw and pressed a kiss featherlight to his mouth before fleeing the scene. But he couldn’t get his helmet on fast enough to keep Tim from seeing the adorable blush on his cheeks. The third date had been a slightly more traditional dinner and a movie, except instead of a movie it was a drag show on the east end that had Tim laughing until he wheezed, and for dinner Jason led him down the sketchiest alley he’d ever seen in his life (and Tim had seen a lot of sketchy alleys) to a hole-in-the-wall Filipino restaurant where he gorged himself on the best lumpia ever. And when a mugger stepped out of the shadows during their exit, Tim held Jason’s cup of halo-halo while he disarmed the guy. Jason held out the newly acquired knife as a joking gift to Tim. That knife sat in a box in his closet next to the visitor’s map from the museum and his ticket stub from the drag show. Jason walked Tim home after that and - because it was the third date after all - followed him inside and fucked him into the mattress until he saw stars.

I was tagged for fuck it friday by @rewritetheending (mwah 💕) but intentionally left it until saturday instead, because! Today my choir released a new EP and I am absolutely going to take the chance to brag about that!

The first and longest song is an epic piece written for our 75-year jubilee by American-Finn Alex Freeman. It uses Galileo's musings about the moon and its phases as the core text and plays a lot with staccatos (absolutely brutal to learn, let me tell you).

The other songs are rediscovered pieces that were written in the 1860's for the very first female voice choir in Finland! I will go into more detail about that under a read more, because there's a lot of really interesting history connected to them! But it's important to know that the women of this choir defied social conventions by performing together, because it was seen as unseemly for women to perform in public at the time.

A last fun fact before the read more: we recorded song #4 (En sommarafton) with our eyes closed the whole way through, just feeling the pulse and ebbs and flows around us.

So! Vårföreningen was a small group of women singing together in the 1860's. They were all of good social standing (and all had attended the school in Helsinki that was available for women at the time, Fruntimmersinstitutet), but despite them all apparently really liking singing together, they only ever had one public performance. The choir was pretty much completely forgotten until researcher DMA Sakari Ylivuori came across mentions of it and some music sheets while researching Thérèse Decker. She was the musical leader of the group (and also sang in it), and finding those notes lead Sakari down the path of learning more about Vårföreningen.

At the time, it was seen as very unseemly of women to perform in public. In letters the group's members wrote to each other there is mention of them having "many enemies but also many friends," and a side note sbout how a nasty story is being spread about the group's members not behaving as is proper in other situations as well. Sakari posits that it's possible the women also felt the societal pressure they had internalised during their upbringing, but be that as it may, Vårföreningen only had one public performance and then officially dissolved by the members' own agreement.

It's very curious how this choir has completely fallen into the shadows of history, because among the composers and songwriters for the choir you can find names like Fredrik Pacius and Zachris Topelius, both very highly regarded men in Finnish society at the time and still among the best-known Finnish composers (Pacius) and poets (Topelius). Topelius' daughter Aino was one of the members in the choir, and from her letters it's emerged that they performed at one of his (dinner?) parties. So it seems like the culture sphere in Finnish society at the time would've been ready to welcome an all-female choir, but society at large, maybe, were not.

Sakari has been able to find and restore 49 songs that Vårföreningen sang, and they are all set to be published both in a book and online for anyone to use as part of the Finnish cultural history database. By clues in letters and diary entries from the choir members, however, it seems like those are only part of a very large repertoire that Vårföreningen's members sang together, and it's quite incredible how such a large piece of cultural history may be lost forever (we're holding out hope that some more notes are found in old storages or something, you never know what some family archives may hold). One of Topelius' best known songs today, En sommardag i Kangasala (Kesäpäivä Kangasalla), turned out to be originally written for Vårföreningen. The score Sakari found was at least a year older than the arrangement for mixed choir that made the song famous, and that makes it even more interesting that nobody knew anything about them.

Being able to sing these songs again, and receiving whatever piece of information Sakari could find about them, has been so incredibly rewarding. Most of them are quite simple compared to some songs we perform today, but bringing a piece of history to life like this is both humbling and very important. Female voice choirs still often have to fight to be taken as seriously as mixed voice or male voice choirs, and women involved in creating art have much more often been forgotten or ignored when people (usually men) wrote about the history they were involved in. That we now can bring some of our own history back into the spotlight feels good. Maybe, like our chairwoman said at the release party today, somewhere a group of women are looking down upon us, smiling and proud of how far female voice choirs have come since they were around.

there's...a lot to unpack here and it makes me hurt/angry (not at you anon!), so let's see if i can even begin to respond to this coherently.

if anyone seriously thinks that this woman was brought up despising and ashamed of elvis and her family, there is something very very wrong with them, and they are willfully choosing to disrespect her and dismiss her as a person. this isn't only disturbed and upsetting in regards to her grandparents, but also her mother whom she and her grandmother and the rest of their loved ones are still grieving. (unfortunately i did see a couple of the addiction jokes...sometimes people online have no empathy whatsoever, and the illness that is addiction is SO mistreated/derided, it's horrific. do they think that's somehow a tribute to riley to weaponize a role she's playing against her grandfather, while simultaneously dismissing that it also affected her mother and her brother? what kind of inhumane outlook incites this? i just said this to a friend recently, but the fact that addiction is somehow tied to moralistic ideals and used to tear people down and shame them does nothing but cause further harm, and is an insidious and awful form of ableism. i know firsthand how badly our society treats illness/disability in and of itself - physical illness, chronic illness, mental illness, and that extends very much to addiction and the cruelty and blame that often accompanies it). i know there have been comments about her looks too (disguised as compliments, but ultimately belittling), which is just...despicable idek. the people who say things like that are so mired in their own cruelty and getting some power trip off of it that they lose touch with human emotion.

they also fall into the category of "they don't know what the fuck they're talking about and haven't bothered to learn anything real ever" that i mentioned before. 🙃

it is very strange growing up knowing about someone you never got the chance to know directly. i say this on the teeny tiny scale of not meeting one of my grandfathers because he passed before my parents even met. i've never even seen video or anything of him, just some still pictures and old stories, so there's a sense of sorrow there that is a missing connection rather than a tangible one (like i have with my other grandfather, whom i was blessed to know well). obviously riley's position is far more surreal and unfathomable because that history is potently famous and embedded in the fabric of america. she can see him in countless photographs and hours of footage (and home movies and things i'm sure the family has) and hundreds of recordings, and she could be told stories about him by all the people she grew up with who knew and loved him, but it's still not the same as getting the chance to know someone yourself. this doesn't mean you don't love them, though! this doesn't mean you don't want to honor and respect them! that's not only some nebulous legacy to her, that's her family!!!

in regards to graceland, i'm not comfortable discussing the legal aspect because it's a private family matter and it breaks my heart that it's been raked through the mud of the tabloids in the way that it has, and i have an intense dislike of the "source" choosing to exploit that family to the likes of tmz after the amount of tragedy they've already endured, but i will say this: graceland isn't just some museum, or even only a house. it's their home. the treasure that it is to the millions of people who've visited there, who treat it like something of a pilgrimage, has basically no analogue in pop culture/music history. there's no place quite like that, where the heart and soul of someone has been kept so vividly, where people gather to remember and honor that in the way that they do. the...nasty glee? what do we even call this? at the idea that she'd sell or destroy it is unconscionably messed up????? and completely disregarding her? thank goodness priscilla did what she did to protect and salvage it, we would not have that connection if she hadn't. lisa marie then dedicated a significant portion of her own life caring for and championing that as well. these women quite literally kept his legacy alive by honoring him and his music/artistry and that place they chose to share with the world. there is such value and beauty in that, and they gave what they gave for that because they love him and believe in its importance and that he deserves it. undermining that isn't about...mocking and hating e or whatever it is that drives that...it fundamentally is a kind of sacrilege to the meaning of it culturally, and an enormous sign of disrespect for these women and the countless other people who have dedicated so much love and soul and time in preserving it for the rest of us, and i hope the light of that is always carried forward.
