Modern AU, angst with comfort, bronseele, made for @homurasbiggestkinnie . TW: Emotional abuse, child abuse, manipulation, drunk driver/ hit and run

Synopsis: Bronya grew up with what could only be described as an emotionally abusive mom, Cocolia, who is not biologically her mom but the closest thing she has ever had to a mom. Despite the abuse, Bronya loves her mom and couldn't bear the thought of her getting hurt. But one day, that nightmare becomes a reality. Left inconsolable, it's up to Seele to comfort Bronya. But Bronya can't hide her love for Seele for much longer, especially when she's so considerate to her.

It should have been her, not Cocolia. Despite the pain her mother put her through she didn't deserve to die, but no, now as she sat in the hospital, watching the heart monitor with fear, a tinge of guilt crept up her spine like a snake. While driving to the store, Cocolia had gotten hit by a drunk driver who had then attempted a hit and run. Her mom wasn't a bad person, just severely mentally unstable, that's what Bronya had told herself growing up.

Now she sat next to her mother's hospital bed, incapable of doing anything to help. She felt useless, what could she do. Frantic footsteps approaching the room snapped her out of her mindset and she looked at the door just in time to spot Seele. She looked down at Bronya, then over to the door, letting out a pained sigh Bronya couldn't face Seele as she turned her head to the side. Was everyone she loved distanced to get hurt? No that was silly, she thought again, what on earth had gotten into her? She thought yet again.

Seele walked to Bronya's side and slipped into the chair next to her, 'I got your text. ' Breaking the silence, Bronya looked down, she shouldn't be burdening Seele with her problems, she thought yet again, this was her problem and she didn't want to inflict it on others. She felt warm soft hands on her own hands, 'Thank you Seele. ' She mumbled, thanking her best friend for being here even though she felt like she wasn't deserving of this kindness.

'Bronya,' she said, a tone of worry in her voice, 'this isn't your fault. ' How on earth did she know, Bronya asked herself, no reply, she felt the hand on her reassuringly pat her hands. Seele wasn't good with showing affection, safe to say for the few occurrences when Bronya had done something that would worry her, then she'd show a burst of anger, worry, sadness, regret. Bronya never understood why Seele chose to care, but deep down she was thankful, the other's harsh demeanor had a soft spot for Bronya.

Seele had been there with her when Cocolia had degraded Bronya over her grades, a simple B wasn't good enough for her. Seele was there for everything. It was on the end of her tongue, I love you, she thought, whenever Seele would be there for her. I love you, whenever the two would have sleepovers. I love you, when Bronya would tutor Seele on things she didn't understand and sometimes vice versa. The words were urging to escape her mouth. But was confessing in her mom's hospital room the most appropriate thing?

Her mother wasn't the most approving, she knew that for sure. She looked at Seele, finally making eye contact, the worry was prominent in Steele's face. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to defy her mother once. She pulled the curtain back so if her mother woke up from her sleep the two wouldn't be seen, she looked at Seele, smiling. 'I love you. '
