okay im listening to my spotify playlist, and a song from the mania album came on. and gave me very strong luther vibes. so. i said fuck it. and decided to make a list of the hargreeves siblings and mania songs that remind me of them.
so, without further ado...
hargreeves siblings as songs from fall out boy's mania
luther: the last of the real ones.
'I was just an only child of the universe And then I found you, and then I found you You are the sun and I am just the planets Spinning around you, spinning around you You were too good to be true, gold plated But what's inside you? But what's inside you? I know this whole damn city thinks it needs you But not as much as I do, as much as I do, yeah'
'I am a collapsing star with tunnel vision But only for you, but only for you My head is stripped, just like a screw that's been tightened too many times When I think of you, when I think of you I will shield you from the waves if they find you I will protect you, I will protect you Just tell me, tell me, tell me I, I am the only one Even if it's not true, even if it's not true, yeah'
diego: sunshine riptide.
'She said, "I love you 'til I don't" I am just playing house, no idea what I'm doing now There are no atheists in foxholes The pressure's getting to me, it's time to throw in the towel'
'You are my truest feeling yet I love you so much, it's just like oxygen And it's going to my head A public meltdown, petulant, but irreverent
Take all your possibilities then take away the limits Take your ideas and throw away all the gimmicks I do the best with what I have The pills are kicking in, the pills are kicking in'
allison: bishops knife trick.
'I'm pedal to the metal, make no mistake This is my pity party, pity party And I'm living out of time, eternal heatstroke Spiritual revolt from the waist down, from the waist down'
'I got a feeling inside that I can't domesticate It doesn't wanna live in a cage, a feeling that I can't housebreak And I'm yours 'til the earth starts to crumble and the heavens roll Away, I'm struggling to exist with you and without you, yeah'
klaus: wilson (expensive mistakes).
'I was, I was, I was, I was Gonna say something that would solve all our problems But then I got drunk and I forgot what I was talking about I forgot what I was talking about'
'I hope the roof flies off and we get blown out into space I always make such expensive mistakes I know it's just a number, but you're the 8th wonder I'll stop wearing black when they make a darker color'
five: young and menace.
'We've gone way too fast for way too long And we were never supposed to make it half this far And I lived so much life, lived so much life I think that God is gonna have to kill me twice'
'Woke up on the wrong side of reality And there's a madness that's just coursing right through me And as far as the time, far as the time Not sure I'm there yet but I'm certain I've arrived'
sparrow ben: stay frosty royal milk tea.
'Some princes don't become kings Even at the best of times I'm out of my mind You only get what you grieve, are you smelling that shit? Are you smelling that shit? Eau de résistance'
'Seems like the whole damn world went and lost its mind And all my childhood heroes have fallen off or died Fake tears, real living, fake tears But the alcohol never lies, never lies'
viktor: hold me tight or don't
'I never really feel a thing, I'm just kinda too froze You were the only one, that even kinda came close I just pinch myself, no longer comatose I woke up, no luck, I woke up, no luck'
'An-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-nother day goes by So hold me tight, hold me tight, or don't Oh n-n-no, no, this isn't how our story ends So hold me tight, hold me tight, or don't'
lila: champion.
'I'm calling you from the future To let you know we've made a mistake And there's a fog from the past that's giving me, giving me Such a headache And I'm back with a madness, I'm a champion Of the people who don't believe in champions I got nothing but dreams inside I got nothing but dreams'
'I got rage every day, on the inside The only thing I do is sit around and kill the time I'm trying to blow out the pilot light I'm trying to blow out the light'

ALBUM REVIEW TIME 👹
Since it seems FOB will be releasing a new album/new music soon, why not do an album review for their recent release that I never got round to listening to. MANIA
This review is dedicated to @bambino1294 as it is her fave 🫶🏻
Tumblr media
Lets get started 🎆
Stay frosty royal milk tea - 7/10 - wow okay cool start right off the bat!! ARE YOU SMELLING THAT SHIT!! Different to what i’m used to hearing from FOB but its a welcomed difference!! Oh that bridge was so nice!! Yeah this slaps
Last of the real ones - 7/10 - this stating is giving coldplay 😭 its good tho!! When those guitars kick in 🤌🏻 it sort of looses its steam in the verses a little but it’s not enough to ruin anything!! Just makes that chorus hit. Strong final chorus. This is really good!!
HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON’T - 6/10 - a more tropical beat from FOB?? Kind of slays. Okay FOB x KARD performance when?? I am a sucker for when we just get a section of vocals without the instrumental!! It hits everytime!! I cant say this is a song I would choose to put on, but if it came on shuffle i would vibe so hard!! THE VOCALS IN THE BRIDGE??? heaven!!
Wilson (expensive mistakes) - 9/10 - oh this is good!! Yep that chorus!! Slays!! ILL STOP WEARING BLACK WHEN THEY MAKE A DARKER COLOUR!!!! I don’t even have much to say, this is just a whole vibe and i’m in love!! Gets a point deducted because the bridge didn’t hit like the rest of it. But still a huge slay!
Church - 8/10 - this one started out in a very imagine dragons way and i’m living for it!! I love his voice sm btw, i feel like i haven’t said that yet. There is just something about imperfect vocals that just hits so much better. Its the emotion 🤌🏻 yeah this one is groovy!! IF YOU WERE CHURCH I WOULD GET ON MY KNEES. so true!!
Heaven’s Gate - 10/10 - OMG THAT GUITAR IS THE PROGRESSION FROM EVERYBODY HURTS!!! I CAN PLAY THAT IN MY SLEEP!!! FUCK this is so good!! that chorus?!!!! Heaven’s gate?? More like i am actually in heaven!!! This would make a cracking TV drama song!! FUCKING HELL NO THIS IS RLLY GOOD
Champion - 6/10 - the guitars in this one 🤌🏻 IF I CAN LIVE THROUGH THIS!!! Literally my life motto atp. This feels like rock mixed with some classic hiphop in the verses. Its really good!! Yeah I like this one but again Idk if i would choose to listen to this one often. I would vibe if it ever came on randomly tho!!
Sunshine riptide - 6.5/10 - oh this is scratching my brain so well. oHH YEAH. The second verse??? Very different but not unwelcome. The instrumental for this one is so good tho. The bass 🫶🏻 the adlibs in the back 🤌🏻 yeah i think i like this one!
Young and Menace - 7/10 - that build up was so fucking good!! HOLY SHIT I was not expecting that Chorus!! This is so interesting!! It is definitely for a certain vibe, but I am on board!! This would have gone so hard on youtube fan edits back in the day!! This is real noise music!! Stray kids wish they could do this /j
Bishops Knife Trick - 8/10 - nice start!! Love the piano!! Solid drop to the chorus. Very much vibing with this one!! Has a nostalgic feel to it, would be amazon on a late night car ride!! Yep that bridge into final chorus really made the song!! A vibe 🫶🏻
This was a fun listen!! Its a really strong album. Heavens gate is now like one of my fave songs ever

Obey Me Boys as Fall Out Boy Songs
bc I love FOB and OM is my current hyperfixation so let’s gooooooo! Some of these were like perfect, but others not so much 🤷‍♀️
Lucifer- Miss Missing You
“Now you're gone But I'll be okay Your hot whiskey eyes Have fanned the flames Maybe I'll burn a little brighter tonight Let the fire breathe me back to life“
“Sometimes before it gets better The darkness gets bigger The person that you'd take a bullet for is behind the trigger“
(oh shit the angst. like I’ll leave that line up to your own interpretation but damn oof bc tbh it has several interpretations. Also Just One Yesterday is another angsty fit 😭 The Mighty Fall is also good and less angsty one I just love the line “I’m either fuckin or workin so the grind don’t stop” lmao)
Mammon- The Last Of The Real Ones
“You were too good to be true Gold plated But what's inside you But what's inside you I know this whole damn city thinks it needs you But not as much as I do“
“I will protect you Just tell me, tell me, tell me I, I am the only one Even if it's not true Even if it's not true, yeah“
(tbh this song just has like his vibes. Wilson is also good esp bc of that one Devilgram)
Leviathan- Save Rock and Roll
“You are what you love Not who loves you In a world full of the word 'Yes' I'm here to scream No, no”
(amazingly ended up with a song that doesn’t even have the word “jealous” in it even tho there are plenty of FOB songs that do, but this one just felt like a better overall fit. The Pros and Cons of Breathing is another good one for him with some angst)
Satan- Champion
“I got rage every day, on the inside The only thing I do is sit around and kill the time I'm trying to blow out the pilot light I'm trying to blow out the light
I'm just young enough to still believe, still believe But young enough not to know what to believe in Young enough not to know what to believe”
(l had I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me based on vibes, but this fits much better I think)
Asmodeus- Where Did the Party Go?
“I will get to you if you make yourself shake fast enough My old aches become new again My old friends become exes again“
“You know I only wanted fun then you got me all fucked up on love Oh I hoped for your name on the Ouija Board”
(another one based mostly on vibes, but also thought the ouija board line was interesting since the summon/gacha system is a ouija board lol)
Beelzebub- Super Fade
“You know I got a hole that I try to fill (Sorry) Hole that I try to fill with trophies and lights (I'm so sorry) A hole that I try to fill with trophies and lights (I'm so sorry) My love isn't lost, it's all I got”
(Ok look this post has been in my drafts for MONTHS all bc I couldn’t find a song for Beel bc I’m based lol so I guess I’ll just settle for this. My other choice was I guess The Kids Aren't Alright or maybe Sunshine Riptide? I just don’t think there’s really one just hits like a lot of the others have idk)
Belphegor- Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner
“Nothing comes as easy as you. Can I lay in your bed all day? I'll be your best kept secret And your biggest mistake.”
“So wear me like a locket around your throat. I'll weigh you down. I'll watch you choke. You look so good in blue.“
(aw yeah we all know what this is about and almost everything abt this song is perfect for him tbfh. Hold Me Tight or Don’t is also pretty good tho)
Diavolo- Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea
“Some princes don't become kings Even at the best of times I'm out of my mind You only get what you grieve“
“The only thing that's ever stopping me is me, hey“
(tbh picked this one mostly just for that top line 🤷‍♀️ I swear I had another pick for him, but I can’t figure it out anymore)
Barbatos- Bishops Knife Trick
“And I'm yours 'Til the earth starts to crumble and the heavens roll away I'm struggling to exist with you and without you, yeah“
“I'm sifting through the sand, sand, sand, sand Looking through pieces of broken hourglass Trying to get it all back Put it back together As if the time had never passed“
(Barb is hard to find a song for idk 🤷‍♀️)
Simeon- Fame < Infamy
“I am God's gift but why would he bless me with Such wit without a conscience equipped I'm addicted to the way I feel when I think of you, woah There's too much green to feel blue”
“Signing off ‘I'm alright in bed but I'm better with a pen’ The kid was alright but it went to his head“
(yeah like since he’s a writer lol idk I mean most of the side characters are hard to pick for y’know. Altho Church and Heaven’s Gate are also fun picks for him ofc)
Solomon- W.A.M.S
“My head's in heaven, my soles are in hell Let's meet in the purgatory of my hips and get well“
(at first was gonna go with Immortals, but come on that line is SO perfect like Purgatory Hall? hello)

MANIA Reaction
Okay, I’ve just sat in the dark and listened to all of MANIA for the first time, and probably ascended to another level of existence, so here’s my brief initial reaction to each song. Not really any deep analysis quite yet, and I may add to this once I’ve listened to it again, just my basic response.
Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea: I was not fucking prepared for this song. I don’t think I ever could have been prepared for this song, not to be dramatic. I was pretty much ready to like, get in a knife fight outside of a neon lit bar in a futuristic city with this in the background. Definitely going to be one of my favorites, holy shit
The Last of the Real Ones: This is another one of my favorites. It feels like such a love song to me, with just overwhelming devotion for the object of your affection. Very beautiful, and definitely one of the most purple songs on the album, in my opinion.
HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON’T: If Last of the Real Ones is perfect love, then this one’s real love. It’s still that devotion and that passion, but with, in my opinion, accepting all the flaws and even cherishing them, too. The relationship is definitely a complicated one, but you still can’t bear to be without it. Another absolute jammer.
Wilson (Expensive Mistakes): I don’t know about anyone else, but this is going to be a song that I listen to on bad days. This is partially because it really captures the feeling of just wanting to drop off the map and get away from every problem, and everyone, in your life. Definitely a good one.
Church: Once again, not fucking prepared. The choir, the church bells, Patrick’s voice, it was so much all at once, and it was perfect. So beautiful, so detailed, definitely lends itself to visuals. The “paging mr. Stump” or whatever was such a good little detail and just added another layer. But on the other hand, they must be expecting all the dick jokes, right? I thought people were exaggerating about the “get down on my knees” part, but nope. Seriously though, this is an incredible song, and I can’t wait to listen to it again. (I haven’t watched the video yet because I wanted it to be just as new when writing this as the others).
Heaven’s Gate: My soul literally floated out of my body and into a state of perfect tranquility listening to this song. Patrick’s voice, oh my god. Patrick’s voice!!! Yet another thing I wasn’t emotionally prepared for. This is a wonderful song, that seems to be somewhere between love and feeling inadequate and flawed, and maybe just all of it at once. But seriously though, Patrick’s voice!!!
Champion: Admittedly, this wasn’t really my favorite song at first. I’m not sure why, but it didn’t really click with me. Though I definitely appreciate it, and it’s a good song, I do think that it just doesn’t stand out to me personally as much as the rest of them. But if I ever want to run a marathon, or even just work out? You bet I’m going to Champion. Definitely very motivational, and I think it has the potential to mean more to me in the right situation.
Sunshine Riptide (feat. Burna Boy): This is, unsurprisingly, another great song. I’m definitely going to have to listen to it again to process it a little more, but my initial feeling is that it’s both about something perfect and good, and also getting so caught up in that that you ignore the small problems of your life. Again, I’ll have to listen to this one more.
Young and Menace: I know I’ve said this a few times now, but this is one of my absolute favorites. It wasn’t what I was expecting from Fall Out Boy, for sure, but it didn’t take me long to love it. There’s something about this song that seems both aware of everything that’s wrong and how far you still have to go, but still so much determination and energy to overcome it. Again, very purple, and it goes hard as hell.
Bishops Knife Trick: Definitely a good way to end the album. I really loved the part about letting the city lights lead the way home, that’s just such a cool visual to me!! Another one that’s just a little bit of a love song, with more of the feeling of not wanting to be apart that I got from HOLD ME TIGHT. It really feels like coming home, moving from a deep sadness back into comfort, but still remembering what you had to go through to get there, and that things are different now. :^)
Overall, I’m giving MANIA an 800,000,000/10. To me, there are no bad songs on this album, just a bunch of punches directly to my heart, over and over again. Probably more organized and analytical thoughts later, and I really hope I got the order of the songs right!

MANIA is FOB’s retirement album!!!!!
yes I sound crazy but let me explain... each song corresponds with an FOB era
young and menace:
the title harkens back to their early era - “I’ll send a message I was young and a menace” back in the days of take this to your grave they were young and menace trying to send a message of angst that people could relate to. It also includes the line “i think that gods gonna have to kill me twice” this line refers to the two times FOB has died, once for the hiatus and once for when they retire
Champion:
This song is reminiscent of centuries in the am/ab era. it also contains the line “I’m calling you from the future, to let you know we’ve made a mistake” once again this could be  reference to the hiatus. Also notice the shift from singular to plural (I’m, you, we’ve) that line you have work just as well with you've but instead its we’ve this implies Patrick telling a group they made a mistake. Perhaps he’s telling the band not to do the hiatus
stay frosty royal milk tea:
I don't have much in the way of lyrics but by gut reaction its very reminiscent of out from under the cork tree
hold me tight or don't:
fuck idk
last of the real ones:
“you're the last of a dying breed” of the emo trinity fall out boy is only band still active with all its members its the last of its breed, and its dying cause fall out boy is ending. also very similar to save rock and roll
wilson (expensive mistakes):
the lyrics of this song seem almost cheesliy emo. This is the song they reflect on their emo days cringing while also enjoying the memories
Church:
could be considered to sound like the infinity of high era. Furthermore in infinity on high is hallelujah, a song sung in a church, implying they themselves are the church. Here fob is thanking the fans for their dedication
Heaven’s Gate:
Not only does it’s soulful sound call back to folie a deux but it has a similar sound to what a catch, donnie. the most iconic song off that album and perhaps one of the most iconic in fob’s career.
sunshine riptide:
not only does it sound like the album but the song has a upbeat and positive tone as did many of the tracks on save rock and roll
Bishop’s knife trick:
“these are the last blues we’re ever gonna have” need I say more?
other more crazy theory:
They delayed the album to represent the hiatus of FOB

HEY GUESS WHAT IT’S TIME FOR
WELCOME BACK TO LIGHTS REVIEWS MUSIC DESPITE HAVING NO MUSICAL TALENT OR KNOWLEDGE
On todays episode, M A N I A by Fall Out Boy
Also this is my opinion so if you disagree that’s fine and also not my problem
Young and Menace - I listened to this one on repeat for like three hours when it was first released. Lyrically, probably my favourite. The music video is pretty cool too.  Champion - Man if this comes on when I’m walking to school you know I’m gonna have a good day. Makes me want to fight everyone who’s ever wronged me. Music video is interesting, probably a commentary on society but I’m too dumb to comprehend it. Listen to it if you need motivation Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea - I like the drum beat in this one. Also well done Patrick for pronouncing the French good. I haven’t got much more to say about this one other than one of my favourite lyrics “the only thing that’s stopping me is me” because SAME HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON’T - Honestly the best part of this song is in the music video when Joe is dancing with those kids because it’s adorable. Also you can practically HEAR the shrug every time Patrick sings “hold me tight, or don’t”. I can click to the thing without screwing it up so that’s also good The Last of the Real Ones - MAAAAN THIS ONES MY FAVE! Possibly because of the lyrics about stars and stuff because I’m a sucker for space but I also really like the piano. kinda reminds me of one of my exes but THAT’S FINE Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) - Music video is so fucking funny, Pete getting hit in the nuts is hilarious and so is Joe doing literally anything. Also “I’ll stop wearing black when they make a darker colour” is ICONIC. Probably my second favourite on the album purely because of that line Church - Patrick does a real nice high note at the start. Trying to sing the main vocals and the bit in the background is impossible but that hasn't stopped me from trying. “If death is the last appointment then we’re all in the waiting room” is a brilliant line. I love the chorus too Heaven’s Gate - Haven't got much to say about this one. It has a nice sound and is generally a sweet slow song. Seems like it goes on forever but that’s fine  Sunshine Riptide - I Love this one so much. It’s mainly the chorus. I can’t help but smile when I sing it. beautiful song. probably my second favourite after The Last Of The Real Ones Bishops Knife Trick - I like this one. I’ve run out of original reasons. It’s just good okay
In conclusion,
Yes

FALL OUT BOY - MANIA (ALBUM REVIEW)
"M A N I A" is the seventh studio album to be released by this Alternative Pop Punk outfit from Illinois, United States. It's very clear that on this release, the four piece were wanting to make a dramatic departure from their earlier material in terms of musical direction. There's everything here from EDM (Electronic Dance Music), Ska/Reggae, R&B, Hip-hop, Electro-pop, Trap music and Alternative/Indie. Whilst for the most part this album is very bold and ambitious in its intentions, there are also moments where it sounds like a chaotic mess and feels very inconsistent.
The band selected quite a number of different producers for this record including Jesse Shatkin, D. Sardy, Butch Walker, Illangelo, Andrew Wells and Fall Out Boy themselves. MANIA was intended for a September 2017 release but got delayed several months as "The album just really isn't ready, and it felt very rushed," (Quote from Patrick Stump, wikipedia page). Overall, this album is very much a mixed bag but certainly has some quality tracks on it.
Here is my track-by-track review of MANIA...
1. Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea...This track begins with some overpowering electronic drum beats but unfortunately the first of many awkward lyrics threatens to ruin it entirely (Are you smelling that shit? Repeated 8 times!). Not the best way to open the album. 6/10
2. The Last of The Real Ones...By contrast, this track is much stronger both lyrically and musically with some groovy rhythmic keyboards and a rollicking guitar riff throughout. Vocalist Patrick Stump delivers some of the best lyrics of the album here (I wonder if your therapist knows everything about me). The song itself is about finding a genuine person to fall in love with. 9/10
3. Hold Me Tight or Don't...Here is the first taste of how experimental FOB have pushed themselves on this record with a catchy tropical reggae-pop beat throughout the track. Sadly the same can't be said for the lyrics which veer into WTF? territory (I want to sleep on every piece of fuzz and stuffing that comes out of you). But if you can get past that, it's a great track. 8/10
4. Wilson (Expensive Mistakes)...This track is probably the closest you're going to get to a "traditional" Fall Out Boy track. It's also got one of the best one-liners on the whole album as well (I'll stop wearing black when they make a darker colour). Musically, it just trudges along until it hits a catchy sing-a-long chorus which saves it from complete tedium. 8/10
5. Church...This is yet another bold and daring track complete with organs, bells and a sampled gospel backing choir which all feel very appropriate. Lyrically, there are metaphors abound particularly during the chorus (If you were church, I'd get on my knees). Definitely not subtle! 8.5/10
6. Heaven's Gate...Similar to the above track however this is where things begin to fall apart structurally with a painfully long held note from Patrick opening the song and some far from subtle references to getting high on drugs (Would you give me a boost over Heaven's gate...You're one habit I just can't kick). Not their best. 7/10
7. Champion...Another really strong track both musically and lyrically. The opening seems to be inspired by the Rocky theme song and the chorus is very punchy and intense. It's a very inspiring and empowering song hence why I probably like it so much (If I can live through this, I can do anything). 9.5/10
8. Sunshine Riptide...Now we go from the best song on the album to the worst. I have no idea what FOB were thinking. Adding autotune to Patrick's vocals during the verses was a terrible idea as was throwing guest rapper Burna Boy (God knows what the fuck he's rapping about). The only thing that slightly redeems the track is the punchy chorus probably as they remove the autotune from Patrick's vocals. 5/10
9. Young and Menace...When I first heard this track, I legitimately had mixed feelings about it as I really wanted to like it. However, the chorus nearly kills the entire vibe of the song with it's screechy, high-pitched vocals and chopped up beats. What's worse is that you have to endure it for near 30 seconds. The verses work much better with a neat reference to Britney Spears (Oops, I did it again, I forgot what I was losing my mind about). 7.5/10
10. Bishops Knife Trick...Thankfully the album finishes on a high note after some really average moments. It starts off really laid-back before it opens up to a soaring, powerful chorus. It also shows off Patrick's range as a vocalist (These are the last blues we're ever gonna have. Let's see how far we get). I just wish the whole album was as consistent as this track is. 8.5/10
OVERALL SCORE: 75/100
Standout Tracks: The Last of the Real Ones, Church, Champion, Bishops Knife Trick.
