"plaything"
james potter x reader
Tumblr media
masterlist (requests open)
summary: you started dating james who was 3 years above you when you were in hogwarts, tensions rise when he re-introduces you to his friendship group that includes his ex girlfriend lily evans
no cws this is just pure angst/fluff
lmk what you guys think!
-
"You'll be fine, princess." James presses a soft kiss to your temple as you walk up to his friends flat.
Your cheeks blushed as he could clearly tell you were nervous. Of course you knew of his friendship group when you were in school, everybody did. But being 3 years younger meant that they definitely had no idea who you were.
James hadn't so much as looked at you twice at Hogwarts, but you always had a crush on him. When your paths crossed again a few months ago, it was him who had eyes for you.
"I know." You smile up at him, trying to shake your nerves. "Just promise they're not gonna hate me."
"Of course they won't hate you." He chuckles. "They have to love you because I love you."
"I love you too." You sigh, reaching up to press a kiss to his lips.
You make your way inside and into the kitchen, James quickly starts to introduce you.
"This is Sirius and Remus." He smirks, pointing at the two boys who are leaning against the kitchen counter. "And this is y/n"
Sirius immediately comes forward and gives you a tight hug, Remus soon copied his actions.
"Merlin, James how've you managed to bag that!" Sirius poked at James, causing James to swiftly shove his shoulder.
"It's nice to finally meet you, y/n." Remus smiles. "We've heard lots about you."
James guides you through to the lounge where Mary and Lily sat.
"You must be y/n!" Mary gushed, standing to her feet to give you a hug. "I'm Mary, and this is Lily." She gestured toward Lily who sat on the sofa with a smug grin.
"I'll leave you here to get to know the girls, baby."
"Baby?" Lily scoffed, making fun of James' choice of pet names.
"Oh shut up, Lil. Just because you're not getting any." James poked back, rolling his eyes. Lily sticks her middle finger up at James as he walks away.
You take a seat on the sofa and take a big gulp of the wine Sirius poured for you. Lily and Mary sat opposite and Mary quickly started quizzing you about your life.
"I can't believe we never met in school!" Mary gushes. "You were a Gryffindor too right?"
You nod, trying to hide the nervous blush reaching your cheeks.
"And you never spoke to James in school either?" Mary's eyebrows furrowed.
"Nope." You laugh softly.
"Thats kind of sweet." She smiles.
"So how young are you again?" Lily butts in.
"I'm 21."
"Godric, that's even younger than the last one." Lily scoffs, making your breath hitch in your throat. Lily had been the one you were most nervous to meet, every one knew they were an item in school.
All you did was smile in response, Mary elbowed Lily in the ribs to shut her up.
"What? It's not like he won't have a new plaything in a few months anyway." Lily whispered to Mary, but something to you she wanted to make sure you could still hear her.
You glanced over at James, he was leaning against the counter with a bottle of beer in his hands. You desperately wanted him to get you out of this conversation.
"So have you met James' parents yet?" Lily continued to quiz you.
"I-uh, not yet." You try to act interested in the conversation.
"They're so nice." She smirks. "I have lunch dates with Euphemia all the time."
Merlin she's irritating you thought to yourself as Lily stared at you with a smug look. All you could do was smile in response, unsure of what she was expecting you to say.
You take a big swig of your drink, finishing off the glass.
"I'm just gonna grab another drink." You excuse yourself, making your way over to James in the kitchen.
His eyes light up as he sees you walking towards him.
"Hi, baby." James smiles, turning away from Sirius and Remus to kiss your forehead. "How you getting on with the girls?"
"Fine." You say bluntly, not wanting to cause a scene but his eyebrows furrow instantly, he knew something was up.
"Wanna come with me outside for a smoke?" He asks and you nod.
He grabs your hand and guides you to the balcony attached to the flat, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it swiftly.
"What's up, princess?" He questions you.
"It's nothing." You sigh, trying to avoid his gaze.
"I don't care if it's nothing." James grabs your chin and turns your head so you're looking at him. "It's clearly bothering you."
"Lily has just said some... interesting things." You mumble and he immediatly rolls his eyes, taking a long drag from his cigarette.
"I should have warned you about her." He laughs. "She's just a bit weird with new people joining the group... she did the same thing when Sirius brought a girl round a few weeks ago."
"But that's different." You pout. "She's your ex girlfriend."
"Yeah, from when we were 16." He chuckles. "Is my baby jealous?"
"No!" You huff, crossing your arms over your chest. "She called me your plaything"
He was laughing now, making your cheeks grow red as you realised how silly it was that you were upset.
"It's not funny, Jamie." You whine. He takes one last drag of his cigarette before throwing it to the ground and taking a step towards you.
"I know, I know." He grabs your face again as you lean against the wall. "You're not my plaything, you're my princess."
"Promise?" You look up at him with wide eyes.
"Promise." He presses a soft kiss to your lips and you can feel his smirk as he still clearly finds the situation amusing.

thanks for requesting lovie!!
poly!marauders x fem slytherin!reader CW: hurt/comfort, insecurity & slight jealousy, fluff
You felt ridiculous. How could you have been so naïve? How could you have thought this would leave you feeling any other way than you were feeling right now?
You watched as Sirius threw his head back and let out a boisterous laugh, his neck on full display as his hair fell behind his shoulders. He looked beautiful like this – completely serene in his joy. James was laughing too; his eyes scrunched closed as he leaned into Remus’ side, teeth shining so bright against his beautifully tanned skin. Remus had a wonderfully mischievous smirk on his face as he looked on at Sirius, pulling James further into his side before firing off some no doubt witty remark that you couldn’t hear from where you were standing. It was met with another round of laughter.
You don’t know what the joke was, you don’t know what was so funny. You’re not sure you want to know anyway; feeling sick at the sight of the boys surrounded by Gryffindor girls.
It wasn’t the girls that bothered you; you liked them – a lot - and you hated that you liked them. They were sweet and funny and easy going and so not you.
It was the easy familiarity that the boys had with them – the inside jokes, the years of having lived in the same tower, the friendships that fully preceded your relationship with the boys.
You could never manage Lily’s quick-witted comebacks. You could never compare to Marlene’s boisterous and colourful storytelling. You could never be Mary’s easy confidence in the group.
You’d never feel that comfortable, that casual, that at ease.
You felt like nothing.
Perhaps you were nothing...at least up here. You were all but royalty in the dungeons, but your notoriety didn’t follow you up to the Gryffindor tower.
You were such a fool.
You quickly turned on your heel and headed back the way you came. You’d only been to Gryffindor tower once before – and it was in the middle of the night after a party in the room of requirement. The boys had said they would leave the portrait open for you to join them after you finished tutoring the first years in Transfiguration. Perhaps you should have known better.
Perhaps you should have known better.
Things were different in the light of day. You were different in the light of day. Certainly, they’d see that – they’d all see it. You were a fraud, getting by on borrowed time.
You should have known better.
You were waiting for the moving staircase when you heard your name being called.
“Hey Princess! Where’re ya headed?” James greeted as he caught up to you.
Your shoulders began to migrate up to your ears, embarrassed at getting caught sneaking off.
“Erm, I was just headed to my dorm, actually.” You admitted shyly. You felt even more guilty when you saw James’ face fall slightly.
“You didn’t want to hang out with us?” He teased, but you couldn’t help but notice the slight anxiety in his voice, looking like he was trying to stop himself from reaching out to you.
“There you are, gorgeous!” Sirius called from down the hall as he approached with Remus – no doubt having chased after you more slowly than James had on Remus’ account.
“Well? Come on then.” Remus said plainly as he held his hand out – for you to take or for you to hand him your book bag, you weren’t sure.
“Uhm, I-”
“She said she was heading back to her dorm.” James interjected.
Sirius scoffed. “Fat chance babe, you promised us a date! Come on, the girls are waiting for you.”
“For me?” You asked incredulously.
Remus seemed tired of holding his hand out for you, so he moved to take your bag from your grasp and pushed you into Sirius’ side who quickly hooked his arm in yours.
“’Course! They love hanging out with you. We told them they could hang with us for five minutes only though – then we get you all to ourselves.” He said shoving his nose into your jaw before finishing his sentence with a kiss to your cheek.
“I didn’t know they cared for me at all.” You admitted, more to yourself than to anyone else.
Remus hummed as he moved to walk on your other side, his hand not currently holding your book bag safely enveloped in James’. “Is that why you were running away before?”
You felt like you were going to melt into the stone floor out of pure shame “I wasn’t running...” You huffed.
Sirius scoffed at you again. “Sure; you never run, and James doesn’t strut. Come on dollface, why were you running from us?”
“I... I wasn’t running from you.”
Remus nudged his shoulder gently against yours, forcing you to sway listlessly further into Sirius’ side. “Did you get a little too caught up in your own head again?”
Honestly, the ground could swallow you up at this point, thank you very much – you both loved and hated that these boys could read you like the back of a potions textbook.
“I guess.”
“Sweetheart.” James cooed at you before he stepped out in front of you, forcing everyone to come to a stop. “We talked about this, yeah? You’re supposed to tell us when you’re feeling like this.” He punctuated his words by rubbing your upper arms and bending down to force you to make eye contact with him.
“I’m sorry.” You admitted, feeling embarrassingly close to tears.
“We don’t want you to be sorry, love. We want you to talk to us, that’s all. We care about you an awful lot – and so do the girls. We want you to feel comfortable with us.” Remus added softly. You groaned in response.
“But I can’t!” You stated perhaps more sharply than the moment called for. “I can’t.” You amended more softly.
“Can’t what, babes?” Sirius encouraged.
“I can’t be like you guys. Or your friends. I can’t be quick and funny, or loud and exciting, or confident and mellow. You are all the same, and I’m just...” you trailed off pathetically at the feeling of a tear fall from your lash line.
“Oh, my love.” James cooed softly as he moved to wipe the offending tear from your face with his thumb.
“We don’t want you to be like us or them, dolly. Did you ever think about that?” Sirius questioned. You moved your dejected gaze to him. “Maybe we like you because you’re not like us; simply because you are the way you are.”
“I love how calm and collected you are all the time. Whenever the room feels too loud – I look for you.” James admitted.
“And I love how you’re always listening, even if you’re not actively participating in the conversation. I know you have smarter things to add to the conversation than the rest of us do, but you’re just as happy to let us flounder before one of us relents and asks you for your opinion.” Sirius said with a smirk.
“And I love how you’ve never once let your anger dictate how you behave. I’d go as far as to say you’ve never been angry, but I know everyone gets angry. So that just tells me that you are incredibly introspective, and face things with a clear mind.” Remus added.
“None of us are like that – none of us could ever be you.” James concluded with a gentle squeeze of your shoulder.
You allowed their words to sink in before taking a shuddering breath and returning your gaze to them. “I’m sorry for running earlier.”
James offered you a lopsided smile. “Don’t be – just tell us next time, yeah?”
You quickly agreed with a nod of your head, and he moved in to press his lips to yours.
“We better hurry.” Sirius said, squeezing your hand twice in his. “Marlene’s dying to hear your stories about the silly little first years from your tutoring group. She couldn’t stop talking about how funny your stories were last time.”
Perhaps you had no reason to feel insecure at all.

Chapter 35: Chill of Desire
Tuesday, December, 14th, 1976
“It’s snowing!” you heard Mary squeal, her excited tone waking you up instantly, and causing you to smile as you looked through the window. Mary had propped the window open and extended her hand as she stared outside.
It wasn’t only snowing then, in fact, it had been snowing all night, all the towers, the fields and the valley were covered by a thick layer of snow. The trees stood tall, their branches delicately coated, creating a magical-looking scene, more magical than Hogwarts already was, anyway.
You had the view of the forest from your window, and you could see the Whomping Willow shaking off the layers of snow that had fallen over him at night, which made you smile, the memory of the devious night having been replaced by so many cuddles with the boys that the looking at the Willow was not as stressful as it had been at some point, you didn’t think of how Remus had gotten hurt by it, but rather you thought of how you had kissed Sirius under it. And how you might be going to meet Moony later that month, as Vixen this time around.
The courtyards and pathways were like winding paths through a snowy maze, and the usually bustling grounds were hushed under the soft blanket of snow, you could see a few students outside enjoying the white fields –especially the younger ones– you still had hours before you had to get to class, you realised when you eyed the small cuckoo clock your mom had given you at the beginning of the year.  It wasn’t even time for you to go on your morning flight yet, but you thought perhaps it would be a good idea to skip flying in favour of playing in the snow, even if it was just for a day, you were sure you’d be able to convince James if you managed to recruit Remus and Sirius first.
The world outside seemed to have taken a pause, wrapped in the serene beauty of winter, with barely a few students playing in the snow and trying to get from one spot of the castle to the other without making much noise. Of course, that wouldn’t last long, not as long as you could help it. You stood up and changed into something warm, putting on Remus’ sweater. You had taken the habit of wearing a lot more often since you wanted to test a theory that had cemented itself in your brain since the day of the Slytherin sweater incident.
Once you were ready you turned to the girls “Come outside in like…” You pondered for a second, 5 minutes to wake up Sirius, another 5 for the two of you to convince Remus to join your shenanigans. Like 10 minutes to convince Prongs and about 4 for them all to get ready. Peter would be coming the minute you convinced Potter, so you didn’t worry much about that, “30 minutes,” you said, adding a few minutes to spare  “It’ll be fun.”
“How fun?” Lily asked, a look of worry on her face that made you laugh.
“It’s a snow day Lils, it’ll be brilliant, I promise!” you said with a smile plastered on your face as you put on a pair of boots and disappeared from their sight. Returning just a second later to take the invisibility cloak you had borrowed from James the previous night. You had it on a ball, and neither of the girls asked about it since they had assumed it was just a blanket you borrowed from Sirius or something. The minute you stepped out, you turned over a corner and put it on, walking straight towards the boy’s dormitories.
Once outside their door you took a deep breath and leaned your ear close to the door, just wanting to make sure they were all still asleep. Which, as you predicted, they had been. You smiled and used your wand to open their door with a tweak on the classic “alohomora” that Remus has taught you.
They had charmed their door, obviously, they had, but Remus –who often left his keys since he rushed in the mornings– had found a way around their own charm and taught it to you since you had been sneaking in to cuddle him and Padfoot, as Vixen of course. It hadn’t been every day, but you had all agreed that you’d have to do it a lot more often closer to the moon, to make sure the smell of the pack was well rubbed.
You thought you already smelled like them enough, but neither of them seemed convinced. Or rather, neither of them wanted to stop cuddling each other, and you didn’t either. Padfoot was fluffy and Remus was always warm, which was especially nice on colder nights, the kind that were already much more common because of the time of the year you were in. And, sometimes, rather often, Sirius would turn back into himself and cuddle both you and Remus, only to turn back into Pads in the morning. If either Pete or James knew, they didn’t say a thing. Remus had always been asleep, or at least pretended, so neither you nor Sirius noticed, and you, who would lay half a top of Remus half a top of Sirius who had now learned exactly how to pet you, weren’t about to complain either.
Once inside you looked at the boys and opened one of the windows with a swish of your wand, bringing a small blizzard inside the room and leaning in over Sirius’ bed, letting the snow fall slowly over his delicate features. He had his mouth slightly parted, and his hair sprawled all around him. He was the loveliest thing to look at; he looked like a princess, like Snow White, you thought, especially when a small snowflake got stuck on his thick black lashes. No wonder Prince Charming wanted to kiss the girl awake. You too felt tempted to kiss him.
“Sirius,” you whispered.
He groaned, and you whispered his name again, giving in and giving him the kiss you wanted, a quick peck over one of his eyes, feeling how the snowflake over his lash melted away with the warmth of your mouth. He opened his eyes and looked at you, and then around, there was snow all over, coating you, himself and his bed as you leaned over him with a sneaky little smile on your face. The smile that oh so clearly stated, you were up to something.
You were looking at him in such a way that he forced himself to clear his throat, trying to think of anything other than his morning discomfort. On days like this, he would get a shower and release himself of those thoughts, and something else. But clearly, that wasn’t an option at that particular moment, let alone with you leaning on top of him like that. You licked your lips and he almost cursed.
“Sirius,” you said again “It’s snowing!”
“I can tell Starshine,” he said as he picked a small snowflake that had gotten stuck in your hair, watching it dissolve in his fingers before he turned back to you. Well done, Sirius, she hasn’t noticed, he applauded for himself.
You smiled and leaned in closer to him, his breath hitched in his throat, you had no fucking idea what you were doing to him. You leaned enough to whisper in his ear. “Help me convince Prongs to play in the snow instead of practice.”
He almost frowned, turning to get a better look at you. “You’ve never had a snow day?”
“I’ve had…” you said, “but never with you.”
He sighed at your words but turned to you with a warm smile. “Fine, let’s go,” He said as he sat on the bed, still thinking of ways to get rid of his problem, his covers falling discreetly over it. If only there was a spell for that.
“No, first we must convince Remus.”
“Remus, why?”
“If Remus is in, there’s no way Prongs will  say no, even if we’re skipping practice.”
Sirius seemed to be processing what you said but nodded. “Go ahead, I’ll go change,” he said, motioning for you to move as he leaned over to find his shirt “bet he’ll like it if you wake him up with snow too,” he said with a devious smile and you rolled your eyes, giving him a soft peck in the mouth before walking over to Remus, bringing the small blizzard along with you.
Had it been a few weeks ago, you might have been hesitant to do exactly what you were about to do, but you had climbed onto Remus’ bed so often in the past few days, either for cuddling as Vixen or just for chilling, that it was almost more natural than it was to climb onto your own. It was like climbing onto Sirius’ bed even, although, lately the two of you spend a lot more time on Remus’ bed than his own, because of the scent thing.
You leaned over and watched the small snowflakes fall over Remus’ face, he looked just as handsome as Sirius had. Or perhaps, the way to describe Sirius correctly would be ethereal, Remus was handsome.
“Hey Rem,” you said softly, placing his hand over his shoulder. This time around, you decided to be softer, and more careful, not forgetting that one time he had pinned you on his bed. He stirred, brows furrowed lightly and nose almost imperceptibly scrunched up.
“Sirius?”  he asked, not opening his eyes, you smelled like Sirius, and you and him. Your scents had been so mixed at this point, he just assumed it was Sirius since it would make more sense for it to be him, especially to be bothering him so early in the morning, not that he minded, not as long as it was him.
“Try again,” you said with a smile.
Remus hummed content, “Little Witch.”
You eyed him cautiously, his eyes were still closed and you leaned a little closer, shaking his shoulder lightly. Then he all but grabbed you by the waist and pushed you to him, Remus was still way too asleep to process what he was doing, and you fell over his torso as he tightened his grip. When Sirius walked out of the bathroom he spotted the two of you and thought it was the most adorable thing he’d seen, even if you had a small frown as you tried to fight your way out of the werewolf’s grip. But Remus was way too fucking strong.
You huffed and turned to Sirius “Mind a little help?” you mouthed, he smirked in response. In seconds he turned into Padfoot and walked over to the two of you, leaning his head into yours for a second before jumping so his paws were on the bed and then, he leaned over and started licking Remus’ face.
You barely managed to see Remus scrunch his face before he opened his eyes, looking rather startled. First, there was snow; second, Sirius had woken him by licking his fucking face; and third, you were laying horizontally across his torso, your head tilting slightly to the side with a rather amused expression, and he was holding you there.
“What the fuck?”
“You’re very grabby in the mornings,” Sirius said, now back in his human form and staring at Remus with his face laid over his crossed arms, which were leaning on the same spot Padfoot’s paws had been on, smile plastered on his lips.
Fucking hell he looks adorable, Remus thought.
And so did you, calmly lying there as you waited for him to loosen his grip. You didn’t mind waiting all that much either, Remus was comfortable. And then Sirius turned to you, placing one of his hands over your hair and letting it gently slide out, causing your head to turn towards the two of them in his action “Look at the poor thing, waiting there patiently for you to let her go Moony.”
You frowned, condescending. You were about to argue, but there was something about the way both boys looked at you that also made you want to shut up, as if you didn’t want to break whatever spell had been cast over the three. And it wasn’t the first time either. You blinked a couple of times. “Poor thing my ass,” you managed to say to Sirius, even if you let him play with your hair still.
Remus almost reached to do the same, his hand twitched, but you didn’t notice, you had closed your eyes as Sirius continued to play with your hair. Looking rather content in the position. A small spark of rage came to Remus and he tightened his grip around you, only for a second until he realised that he was way out of line and let you go. You didn’t move, just enjoyed Sirius’ hand for a few more seconds and Remus wished he could be the one to make you feel like that. Eventually, you took a deep breath and opened your eyes again, biting your lip as you looked at Remus “It’s snowing.”
He looked around and raised his eyebrows at you, his face clearly stating “no shit Sherlock”.
“Starshine here wants to go play out there in the snow with us,” Sirius said.
You were about to swat him for being so haughty with you, but you realised by the way the corner in his mouth lifted forward, he was just doing it to piss you off. You didn’t even realise the way Remus had gulped with how intensely you were glaring at Sirius.
“Or we could just stay and cuddle,” you said with a sneaky little smile, you knew Sirius was already eager to go out there and play with the snow. Two people could play his little game. But both boys liked the idea just as much as the prospect of going out in the snow with you.
“Let’s go,” Remus said as he patted you on the leg casually, a signal for you to get off him. If Sirius noticed his gesture, he didn’t seem to care much that he had done it, and you didn’t seem to notice either. It was almost as if the three of you had special concessions with each other that wouldn’t be allowed to many others. For example, Sirius would surely be pissed if you had been cuddling Tom, or even Peter, but with Remus, he didn’t seem to mind, heck he even encouraged it sometimes. Not that any of the three noticed these little things, but some people did.
“Get changed,” You told Rem with a bit of a smile, “We’ll go wake James.”
Remus nodded and both you and Sirius stood up. You walked over to James’ bed, and Sirius was about to jump over him to wake him up with a thud, but you stopped him, bringing in your small blizzard over his friend. Sirius smiled and took his wand out, making more snow come inside, and having relatively strong –and cold– winds blow over Prongs.
Neither of you was being half as gentle as you had been with Remus, was it because you knew Moony’s short temper or… something else? Perhaps it was part of those special concessions you allowed one another.
James started to shiver, pulling his covers higher up only for Sirius to slide them down again with a swish of your wand. Only then did you realise Prongs had been shirtless under the covers. You gasped silently at the sight, covering your mouth and staring. Prongs was fucking ripped, not as much as Remus but certainly ripped. You did not remember him being so fit back when you had been him.
Sirius nudged you with his shoulder when he noticed you were staring “Stop ogling him, will you?” he said slightly annoyed, he tried to hide it, and it slipped pass you.
You shook your head, still amazed. “Do you have a camera? Lily should know.”
Ah… so that’s why she’s staring at Prongs, fair enough, Sirius thought. He stared too, also thinking that while Prongs was ripped, Remus was much better. The snow became thicker around Prongs as Sirius’ thoughts focused on his other friend, the wind became even stronger, blowing on James’ hair, and making it even messier than usual. You were about to tell Sirius to hold back a little when James woke up, sitting on his bed fast and in panic.
“Wakey-wakey Rudolf!” You said with a smile.
Remus, who was just stepping out of the bedroom, looked at the two of you, wicked smiles on your faces while James stared, almost horrified, and he smiled. His two naughty little crushes. He wondered if you’d reach in to cuddle him and Sirius tonight, he wanted you to do it, he wanted you to do it really bad.
“What in the bIoody–“
You were about to speak, but Sirius stole your line “It’s snowing!”
“It’s freezing, that's what is!” he said as he pulled the covers, but you took them from him and dangled them in the air.
“No-uh Prongs, it’s time to get up!” He gave you a reproachful look, “Come on! It’s a snow day, we must play in the snow a little before it melts away… and class starts.”
The blizzard you and Sirius had caused was already dissipating, leaving the beds of the boys, and their floor, just a little slippery. But James peered to the window. “I highly doubt the snow’s gonna melt away anytime soon, luv… Besides, what about flying?”
“No flying today mate,” Remus intervened from behind the two, gently placing his hands on both yours and Sirius’ shoulders, “It’s snow day, and the first one of the season.”
“But…”
You sighed. “Lily will be there,” you added.
James’ eyes pretty much beamed after you said that and he ran up to his trunk, throwing a pillow towards Peter’s bed who woke up completely confused, “Why am I being attacked?” he asked with a frown.
“It’s a snow day Pete, we’re all coming out to play!” You said excitedly, Peter blinked as if wondering why the hell you were in his room before remembering you had been over more often than not lately, and because of his idea, that is.
“Morning Vix,” he said politely. “Fancy seeing you here,” he added as a joke.
“Oh.. piss off and change before you start teasing us all over again,” Sirius responded.
And he had been teasing you rather often. Since you started cuddling Remus together, he wouldn’t stop with the canine jokes. Either Puppy cuddles, lovable howlers, or whatever the hell came into his mind at that moment. He found it hilarious that the three of you were so close and that the three of you were a variant of the canine family. Something about being meant to be or whatever.
Peter just snickered and walked into the bathroom with clothes in hand, James didn’t even care, he straight up turned around and took off his pants right there in front of you, which had Sirius pull you to look at him and Remus cover your eyes with his hands. You laughed at their silly reactions. “Yo, Rem, when I said I would let you blindfold me, I didn’t think you’d actually go through with it.”
“Sly little fox, promising things without meaning them, are we?” He teased.
You laughed again, letting your head shake. Remus was eyeing Sirius then, and Sirius returned the stare, the two of them stayed like that, almost frozen as they looked at each other, your laughter almost fading into the background as Sirius turned his gaze towards Remus’ diverted smile. Remus has a pretty smile, pretty like Starshine’s, he thought.
“Is he done?” You asked, pulling on Moony’s hand to try and see a little bit better. That broke their trance and the two of them turned back to look at you, Sirius’ eyes flickering to your lips for a second, thinking he might actually be going insane.
“Yeah, I’m done,” James said as he leaned over and placed an arm around your shoulders. “Why are we hogging Vixen?”
“She came to wake us up with a fucking snowfall, now she must suffer,” Remus said as if it were the most natural thing. You nudged him lightly, about to say something when Peter stepped out, several layers of sweaters over him.
You smiled “You get cold easy, Wormy?”
“He’s got no tolerance,” James said, “and he always forgets the warming spell.”
“I could help you with it,” you offered.
“Thanks,” he said with a genuine smile, “but I’ve come prepared,” he added as he pulled a small piece of parchment from the pocket of his coat, showing it off in between his index and ring finger. “Annie gave it to me and charmed it so I wouldn’t lose it,” he explained, “It always reappears in my pockets now.”
“What? That’s brilliant!” you said reaching for the parchment and taking it from Peter’s hand for a second, looking at the symbols in the back. Remus approached you from behind to take a look.
 “It’s complicated magic,” he said.
“It looks like an altered version of Homunculus,” Sirius said, he too had approached you and stared at the back of the small paper.
“Mixed with a clinging spell and a respawn one,” you added perplexed, “It’s incredible…” you said breathily, disbelief lacing your tone.
“Indeed.” Peter proudly raised his head. “Annie is insanely clever.”
You smiled and gave the paper back to him, before frowning and turning to the boys. “Do you guys think the Homunculus charm could help with the map?” you asked with a frown.
Remus bit his lip as he thought about it and then turned to you, “Vixen, that’s it! If we take the homunculus cham and somehow connect it to Hogwarts Magic–”
“And then bind it to the core of the map then… we could have absolutely every single student, teacher and visitor to the castle tagged at once!”
Remus nodded, “No more sneaking charms in their robes and backpacks! Fucking hell, we’ve cracked it!”
You and Remus were staring at each other with such sheer excitement over it, so hyped up that the boy almost reached out to kiss you, managing to stop, and clenched his fist by his side.
“Nerds,” Peter teased, dragging out the e slightly.
“But hot ones,” Sirius added inadvertently, giving a small shrug as he did.
Remus turned to Sirius with a frown, but you just placed your hand over one of his shoulders and nodded. “Indeed we are,” you said and sent a wink his way. You then spun on your heel back to the rest of the marauders “Shall we? The girls must be waiting for us by now,” you said, standing on your toes to look over Sirius’ shoulders, at the clock.
A few seconds later, and due to James’ idea, you were all running down the stairs and through the halls, in an attempt to get to the orchards as fast as possible.
“Do not run in the halls!” you heard a couple of scandalised paintings scream, and you just giggled as Sirius threw a silencing spell their way. The portraits looking at him enraged as you all kept running. By the time you reached the doors to the grounds, you were all panting, cheeks burning and grinning like fools.
You were bent down trying to catch your breath when you felt a snowball that came from the outside straight to your face. The boys gasped and started laughing as you dusted off the remnants of snow and looked up and tried to spot where it had come from. You continued to scan the field, only to find Lily Evans, smiling and waving at you with the most guilty expression you had ever seen in a person.
Now it was your turn to gasp. “That’s what you get for waking us all up early,” She shouted from a few metres in the distance.
“Mary woke us up!” You argued, “I only made arrangements.”
“No, no,” James said, a wicked smile on his face. “You did wake us up early,” he added as he pointed at all the marauders. “And with a fucking blizzard,” the boy was already walking towards the redhead, “I say it’s time for payback.”
You were about to say something when you received another snowball in the face, you looked at the boy with an expression of absolute betrayal as the leftover snow fell over your coat. “James Potter you little shit!” you said. He gave you a daring look in return. And you scoffed amused. Then you leaned down and made a small ball, packing the snow gently before throwing it his way. James easily veered out of the way, which you should have expected, since he was so used to dodging bludgers.
“That all you got? You’d make a terrible beater, luv!” he teased, taking the ball Lily gave him and launching it your way, this time around you managed to dodge, but the ball fell right on the side of Sirius’ head.
“Prongs, my hair!” he whined. Both you and Remus snickered, the taller boy was now the one passing you a snowball, allowing his hand to linger just for a second too long, as he did, not that anyone noticed, Sirius was too busy taking snow out of his hair and Peter had run off somewhere earlier. You smiled and brought the ball up to your face.
Using what you learned from charms to perform a small, wandless spell, over the projectile, you smiled wickedly and threw it his way again. James dodged to the side but the snowball turned with him and landed square on his face. You laughed as James looked at you with absolute shock, trying to remember if you had –at any point– taken your wand out. When he realised you hadn’t, he was half impressed, and just as he was pushing his glasses back on his face, he received another ball on the side of his head, his hair getting filled with snow as he gasped.
Sirius –who had thrown the ball– was waving at him with a smile. Until seconds later he too received a snowball on his face, a laugh from Marlene as she nudged Mary echoed in the distance.
Remus was about to pass you another snowball when he too got hit, square on his chest –the lucky bastard– by none other than Beth Doxon. She smiled, her bright red hair being covered by a warm Gryffindor cap. “Come on Professor Lupin! Stop passing balls and start throwing them!” she taunted, Remus took the ball in his hands and threw it her way.
“Kind of fits you,” you said with a smile as you leaned down for another ball and moved it to your mouth to charm it again, “Professor Lupin, it’s got a ring to it.”
“I much prefer the sound of Professor Moony,” Sirius teased from behind, “encapsulates his personality better.”
“Sod off, Pads!” Remus said, also crouching down to get more snowballs, when he stood up, and another ball came your way, you quickly moved behind him. He turned to you in disbelief. “What am I? Your human shield?” he asked, just as a snowball fell on the side of his face.
“And an effective one, isn’t he Kit?”
“Very,” you responded with a light giggle. “It’s about his broad shoulders,” you said as you placed both hands on them, Remus tensed, looking at Sirius, thinking he might be angry, or jealous, or something. But neither of those things happened, instead, he joined your praising.
“And he’s tall too,” Sirius added, walking right behind you, and placing his hands over your shoulders, really close to your neck, in fact, close enough so his cold fingers crashed against your warm skin, which caused you to hiss and step away from him, crashing onto Remus.
“Shit Sirius!” You complained as you attempted to tighten the scarf around your neck “You’re cold as fuck.”
“But you warm my heart baby,” he teased, an overly gooey tone in his voice as he extended his hands towards you again, you knew exactly what he was about to do and you scurried out of his grasp and ran towards the snow, even if you got a few snowballs thrown your way as you tried to cross the field. You found a statue and with a quick confringo, melted the snow at the top to make a dent and take cover.
You quickly made a ball from the snow at your side and threw it on Sirius’ hair, leaning your head just enough time for him to notice it had been you. He eyed you, diverted and then you felt a snowball hit the back of your head, you turned around just enough to find Remus with another snowball in his hand.
“Scoot over, will you?” He said as he leaned down, as if ready to enter your improvised trench.
“No, you threw a snowball in my head,” you responded, feigning annoyance.
Remus chuckled and placed one of his legs inside your trench either way, “And you used me as your shield, we’re even.”
You shook your head in amusement but scooted over either way. Remus swished his wand and suddenly a pile of snowballs appeared behind you. You smiled and took your own wand out, whispering the same locating spell over all of them. Remus raised his eyebrow at you as if he was impressed, and you shot him a wink as you took a ball and leaned over to throw it towards Lily, meanwhile, Remus was throwing some Beth’s way.
“You’ve abandoned me for a sexy werewolf I see,” Sirius whispered in your ear, he had apparated just behind the two of you. He had been practising since your last class when Professor Dumbledore allowed you all to try doing it for the first time by yourselves, and he was insufferably good at it.
“The werewolf doesn’t want to bury his freezing cold hands on my neck,” you said –if only you knew where he wanted to bury them– without even turning to look at your boyfriend, if you had, you’d probably go soft at the sight of his eyes. He often got what he wanted from you with just a look, and he fucking knew it all too well. Not that you didn’t have the same effect on him, hence, you two were absolutely chaotic together.
Your small trench was barely enough for the three of you to fit in together, and it’s not that either of you was a stranger to touching each other, but Remus was feeling the heat rise up to his cheeks as your shoulders brushed against his, but much more worse when his back brushed against Sirius’ smaller chest. It was like the Halloween party all over again, but this time Remus didn’t want to run away.
Well, perhaps a part of him did, but the rest of him, the part that had thoroughly enjoyed cuddling Vixen and Padfoot, wanted to do the exact same to you and Sirius. He wanted the two of you to be his, to slather you with his scent so much that the entire world knew who you belonged to.
Of course, that was ridiculous, Remus knew, but he was hungry, Moony was hungry, the problem is he didn’t want food, he wanted his two best friends.
A nudge in his stomach pulled him out of his thoughts. “Mind teaching me how to make so many balls at once Professor Lupin?”
“It’s Professor Moony,” Sirius insisted, he had to duck as a ball flew towards his head in that instant.
You rolled your eyes “Rem?”
He was still a little shaken by the thought, almost hazy with how thrilled being so close to the two of you made him feel. “Yeah sure, just… whisper pila nix,” he said as he showed you what he did. “It’s a simple swish and curl.”
You did as told and in seconds there was another pile of snowballs ready for you to use. Sirius looked at Remus surprised. “You’re a great teacher mate,” he said, “should try helping her with transfiguration.”
You groaned at that “You know I’m a lost cause,” you said as you ducked, the small ball falling straight on Sirius’ face. He tugged your hair lightly “Oi, what was that for?” you complained, turning to look up at him.
“So you warn me next time.”
You looked at him amused, and grabbed some snow from the side of your trench, “Hey Puppy, there’s a snowball coming your way,” he looked around, as if trying to find the offender, only to receive one right from where you were crouching.
He turned to look back at you shocked and smiled as he shook his head, “Oh you little Minx!” he said as he bit his lip, “I was letting you go scot-free earlier.”
“Not my fault you didn’t see the ball,” you said, unconsciously etching closer to Remus.
“Aww darling…” Sirius said as he crouched next to you, and pulled you into a hug.
“Sirius, what– what are you, fuck…” you said springing up from the spot you were on, his hand –his freezing cold hand– that he had slipped under both your shirt and sweater had landed on your bare back. You stood behind Remus again, using him to shield yourself from Sirius. “Treason!” you said dramatically.
“You don’t want another hug from your boyfriend?” he asked with a playful pout.
You shook your head, still feeling the cold of his hand. If the snow fight was still going, neither of you was paying too much attention to it. Let alone Remus, who was really struggling not to let the feeling of you pressed against his back get the best of him. Only made worse by the way Sirius’ wrapped his arms around him and pressed himself to the boy as he tried to reach you either way.
Do they not fucking know about personal space?, he thought. But of course, you didn’t, not when the two of you had been cuddling him every other night. Needless to say, it was different for him, he was just cuddling two fluffy animals when he fell asleep –except in those rare occasions Sirius would turn back– meanwhile, both you and Sirius were just cuddling good old Remus. This wasn’t any closer to him than you’d been already.
Remus didn’t speak, he was holding his breath. Sirius kept fucking pressing against him and you kept squirming behind his back. The golden specks of his eyes were so golden they looked like a different colour altogether, more like Moony’s than his own. The chocolaty brown shifting into dangerous and shimmering aureate.
“Moony! Moony help!” you called out in between laughs.
“Don’t you dare, Moons!” Sirius warned.
Sirius pressed harder as you tried to squirm away and it was enough for him to feel bIood run south. He had to stop this before either of you noticed what was happening to him, so he turned around and grabbed both of your shoulders, digging his hands in between your necks and the back of your heads, enough force to get your attention, but not enough to hurt either of the two.
Sirius seemed to be shocked at how much warmer Remus’ hands were in comparison to his, to yours. You were not, you knew Remus tended to run on the warmer side. Hence, cuddling him on cold nights was so useful. “Enough,” he said, flashing his golden eyes at the two of you, the colour slowly sinking back into brown as the two of you looked at him as if his eyes had been those of a basilisk instead of his own, frozen.
And then, you eyed Sirius, a small smirk playing on the corner of your lips as you sank your hands back in the snow. He smirked in return, sinking his hands as well. By the time Remus noticed your intentions, your hands –icy and freezing– were on his neck and Sirius had slid his hand under Remus’ shirt.
Merlin knew who had been more startled after that. You, who had tumbled as you pulled on Remus and had him fall on top of you. Remus who had been shocked at the way Sirius had gone straight for his stomach –which in truth, had been a lot more shocking than the cold– and had his breath hitch in his throat. Or Sirius Black, who was only now contemplating his actions, realizing how awkward it must have been for his friend, and having a mini panic attack over the fact that digging his hands under Remus’ sweater felt as fucking thrilling as it did.
Remus was a lot less soft and a lot more firm than you were. And he adored your softness, but fuck, Remus’ harder frame felt impious under his hands. It felt lurid, licentious, beguiling… and it placed some rather salacious thoughts in his head.
Thoughts that… would be worthy of a muggle rock star. Of Freddie and Bowie, and perhaps even Elton. But Sirius was not– he wasn’t because if he had been… he’d know, right?
As you still had Remus pulled by the neck, you received yet another ball on the head, the leftover even splashing onto Remus whose head was so close to you that you could smell his hair, and then, you started laughing. So hard that you weren’t even feeling the cold against your back, the snow slowly sinking in your robes and soaking them.
Sirius was the next one to laugh, taking his hands off of Remus’ stomach and letting himself fall next to the two of you as he continued to cackle. And lastly, Remus joined, you still hadn’t let go of his neck, almost using it as a personal heater at that point, he didn’t seem to mind, and eventually he just sort of relaxed into you, if you felt the shift in weight as he let go, you didn’t seem to mind at all either.
“Well, well, well, would you look at the love puppies all cosied up while we continue the snowball fight.”
Sirius grabbed a snowball from the side and threw it his way without even looking, and since they all had the missile spell it landed straight onto Peter’s face. “Shut it Wormtail,” he said, borderline rudely.
While Sirius had never minded being called “Love Puppy” or whatever other joke Peter came up with, that was before he started doubting himself about whatever the hell was happening to him whenever he spotted Remus. Especially after exactly what he was feeling after he placed his hands under the other boy’s shirt, especially because it had been so fucking similar to the feeling he got when he did it to you.
“We’re off for breakfast. You are not planning to stay all tangled in your little love trench, are you?” Peter asked again, whipping his face off the snow and paying no mind to Sirius and how rude he’d been.
“We might be,” you joked, your hands had unconsciously travelled to Remus’ head after he laid down and you were now toying with his hair. He had silky hair, a little thicker in comparison to Sirius’ curls. Remus hummed in agreement, closing his eyes as he enjoyed the way your hands felt on his scalp. If Sirius thought it was weird, it had been his fault he ended up on top of you anyway. A part of him was telling him how bad of an argument that was, but it was easy enough to ignore it when Sirius didn’t seem to mind, and your hands felt heavenly.
“Suit yourselves, I heard there was going to be an assortment of Christmas pies today,” he said with a shrug.
Your head snapped his way. “Christmas pies, you said?” you asked, eyes shining and mouth watering at the thought. Your soft touch on Remus’ head switched to an unintended pull of his hair as you turned.
“Ouch!” He complained.
You winced, “Sorry Rem,” you said, not even turning to him as you patted him on the shoulder and wriggled your way out of the sandwich he had trapped you in with the snow. He tried not to look disappointed as he stood back on the small trench. By then you were already standing outside of it, and looking at Peter as if you wanted him to elaborate.
“The elves mentioned something,” he said simply. “Apple, pecan, peach, chocolate, some savoury ones too I assume.”
If you were a cartoon, you’d be drooling. “Well boys, pleasure messing with you and all that, but it’s pie time,” you said as you turned to walk behind Peter and the rest.
“Who’s the traitor now?” Sirius shouted with a smile.
“I’ll save you boys a seat,” was your only reply as you started sprinting towards the Great Hall, determined to be among the first to arrive so you could choose from the assortment of pies available.
The boys caught up with you as you were taking a seat, already having walked through the length of the table and picked out the pies that you’d be eating. When they sat down, Remus at one side of you and Sirius purposely taking the other side to keep some distance from himself and the source of his thoughts. You picked two pies from your plate and placed them in front of each of the boys.
“What’s this?” Remus asked as he picked it up.
You were about to give a bite to one of the tarts you’d picked and said “Pie,” with a shrug, taking a bite right after and moaning at how good it was.
Sirius’ whose head had already been messy that day, had to adjust his pants uncomfortably. First, you woke him up and he couldn’t complete his morning routine, then there was the whole confusing thing whatever the hell was going on in his brain when he was close to Moony and lastly, you moaning shamelessly as you ate.
“No shit Sherlock,” Remus said as he pushed you lightly, shoving you against Sirius whose breath hitched as you laid your cheek on his shoulder and pressed a light kiss. “I mean, what’s it made of?” You sat straight and pushed Remus in return.
“Try it, I know you’ll like it!” you said with a smile and gave another bite to yours. He gave you a distrusting look. “Oh come on, Moony! I wouldn’t give you something you don’t like! You’d get all pissy and Pissy Moony is no fun.”
“Pissy Moony?” he asked, almost offended. “You have a term for that?”
You left your pie on the table and raised his up to his mouth. “Sirius told me about it,” you said, “Now eat up, I promise you’ll like it.”
He gave you one last side eye and then gave it a bite, missing your hands the moment you brought them back to your plate to take a bite of yours.
“Cherries and chocolate,” Remus said with a smile as he turned to you. “I love it. How did you know?”
You shrugged, “I’m just that brilliant.”
“Will you also mouth-feed your boyfriend or is that only reserved for dear Moony?” Sirius flirted, trying to regain some sort of control of the dire situation he found himself in.
Sirius didn’t mean anything by it, but the way he’d said “your boyfriend” straight up felt like a jab on Remus’ heart. Sirius was right, the two of you were dating and he seemed to be intruding more and more lately. But then again, the only times Sirius seemed upset about how close you all were, were when he was teasing.
You rolled your eyes, but decided to take his pie in your hands either way “Close your eyes,” you instructed. Sirius gave you a weary look but did as told. “Try and guess what it is, deal?” you asked as you leaned it closer to his mouth. He leaned enough to give it a bite and then turned to you surprised “Is that…? Does it have firewhiskey?”
You smiled and pulled out a small bottle from your pocket, “Thought you’d like something a little different,” you said with a smile “peaches and firewhiskey.” Sirius took the pie from your hands, his discomfort almost fading in the background as he took a look at the pie you’d given him.
“But how?”
You shrugged “Added the firewhiskey and then did a small warming spell so it cooked a bit. I’m sure it would be better if they were cooked together from the start but I thought you’d appreciate a little spice…”
“I do, wanna taste it?” he asked as he passed it over, you gave it a small bite and all but moaned again, even closing your eyes and letting your head fall back just a little, exposing your neck to both boys, who could barely keep their eyes away from it, especially Remus. “Fuck I’m an incredible cook, Moons taste this out too!” you said as you, for the second time that day, shove a pie close to his face. When he gave a bite he couldn’t help but taste both you and Sirius in it. It really was fucking delicious.
He nodded as Sirius leaned over you to take the pie from Moony, their hands brushing against each other and giving both boys an electric-like feel, not because of actual electrical shock, but rather because of what they felt for each other. Sirius reclined back on his seat and placed his hand on your leg, seeking the hem of your skirt before sliding it over your skin.
Same fucking feeling.
You looked at his hand and nudged him lightly, he gave you a flirty wink in return that made you laugh and Remus tried to avert his gaze from both Sirius’ hand and the way your skirt had ridden up a good deal.
You gave another bite of your pie and turned to Remus, as casually as you could muster –even if you were a bit nervous to ask, which you shouldn’t be because he was your friend– “Wanna come to Slughorn’s Christmas Party with me?”  No better time than now, right?
Remus wasn’t so sure about that, he almost choked on his own pie, he wiped his mouth with the back of his sweater before turning to yours with a frown “I’m sorry, what?”
Sirius started drawing circles on your leg, the way your skirt moved with each of his strokes didn’t escape Remus’ nervous gaze on you. “The Christmas Party from the Slug Club, I’m supposed to bring someone with me” –you tilted your face with a smile– “Want to come?”
Remus turned to Sirius, giving him a look, the other boy just shrugged with a nod but that wasn’t enough. “What about Sirius? Your boyfriend?” The words almost hurt to say.
“He doesn't want to come,” you said. “Right, Siri?”
“That’s more your kind of nerd stuff,” he said after he nodded, and pointed at the two of you.
“Slughorn has never invited me, he doesn’t want me there,” he said, not sure if he was supposed to feel dejected because you were his second choice or fucking delighted because you’d want to take him and not Sirius, thought he had to remind himself that you probably did want to take Sirius.
Remus didn’t stop to think that you would have, had you actually wanted to, easily convinced Sirius to come along. Let alone, would he have imagined that you had asked Sirius if you could take him instead.
“That’s exactly why I want to take you”– you said as you placed his hands around his arm– “I want to show that old snake how freakin’ clever my best friend is. You deserved an invitation much more than I did anyway.” Remus gave you a reproachful look when he heard the last thing. “You’re coming, yeah? It’s always fun to prove the snakes how wrong they are with you.”
Sirius smiled. “Come on mate, don’t make her beg,” Sirius said, flicking his finger on your thigh and letting them rest closer to the inner side, still at a prudent distance, and while you did feel the shift, you played it cool and tried not to even look. “Girl might end up taking Pete if you reject her,” he teased.
You elbowed him softly, not because you didn’t want to take Peter, but because he was implying it would be such a terrible choice.  Of course, you’d much rather take Remus or even some of your other friends, like Tom or Minho (he was already invited) but that was because you were pretty certain Annie Doxon would hex you if you took her boyfriend. James was going with Lily, so he was completely out of the question.
“Okay,” Remus said with a shrug, trying to seem as natural as possible. “I’ll come but… what about the date though, you know near the end of December it’s the…”
“Moon’s on the 22nd, party is on the 21st. I know it’s just a day before and I’ll totally get it if you’re not feeling up for it by then. I wouldn’t want to make you into a Pissy Moony.”
He pushed you with his shoulder again, “Sod off!” he said jokingly and both you and Sirius started to laugh.

@jegulus-microfic | may 6 strawberry | words: 1k
part 1 | next part
tw: anxiety, self hatred, intrusive thoughts, mental breakdown, implied underage smoking
Regulus couldn’t believe what he just heard. He was aware that people hide their pain behind a smile—he was Barty’s friend after all—but to learn that James Potter was doing the exact same thing? He couldn’t quite comprehend it.
He kept staring at him for the next Merlin knows how long before doing something that surprised even him.
Regulus outstretched his hand for James to grab it, then pulled them both up. For a second, they just looked at each other, their fingers intertwined. Then, taking one big step closer, Reg was holding the other boy in a warm hug. He could feel James tensing in his arms before exhaling and relaxing a little. After a moment, his hands hesitantly moved up Regulus’ back, grabbing at his jumper and holding tight. Simultaneously, the younger boy was caressing his shoulders and neck in a soothing gesture. Regulus could feel a wet stain forming on his shoulder where James hid his face.
They stood there on the Astronomy Tower in the middle of the night, embracing and crying quietly together.
After what felt like forever, Regulus pulled the other boy closer, hiding his own face in his chest, and whispered, “If you ever need to talk, or—or anything, really, just find me, okay?” He could feel James nodding against his hair, mumbling a quiet ’okay’, then falling silent again. Not for long, though.
“You smell like strawberries and cigarettes,” he muttered, not sounding exactly happy but not sad either, so Regulus allowed himself to huff out a small laugh.
***
A few weeks have passed since that night. They kept meeting at the tower, sometimes talking, sometimes sitting in complete silence. James hasn’t come looking for him aside from those meetings, still pretending he’s never been better.
Until one afternoon in late April, when Regulus sat with Evan and Pandora at the library, revising before OWLs,.
The Gryffindor approached them then, a bright smile on his face yet so much pain and sadness in his eyes. Regulus wondered how he had never noticed before.
“Hi, um,” James started awkwardly, looking straight into his eyes, “McGonagall sent me to tell you she wanted to talk with you about—about your brother.”
Regulus straightened, trying to read the other’s eyes—there was something in them that looked like a plea of some sort. “Right now?” He asked after a moment. James just nodded once in response.
So Regulus gathered all his things, told his friends he'd see them at dinner, and left the library with the older boy.
As soon as they reached the corridor, James took his hand, pulling him into the nearest room. It looked like any other classroom at school, with aisles of double desks, a blackboard next to the teacher’s pulpit, and some old books put neatly on the shelves by the window—the only difference was that it was covered in a thick layer of dust.
The moment the door closed behind them, Regulus heard James collapse against it, a loud sob escaping him. Within seconds he was kneeling before the crying boy, cradling his face. Regulus quickly casted Muffliato wandlessly, just before James started talking.
“I’m so fed up with this,” he managed between breathless sobs. “I don’t want to feel like this anymore; I don’t want to feel at all.”
“James, breathe,” he whispered, looking into his eyes. They took the first deep inhale together, letting it out together as well. Even though James was shaking all over his body, he kept taking the air into his lungs to calm down a bit. After a few minutes, when the older boy wasn’t hyperventilating anymore, Regulus asked gently, “What happened?”
Letting out a humourless laugh, James started. “Nothing really—Moony and Pads went out on a date, Pete was doing homework with Mary and Lily, and Marlene went somewhere. And I was alone in the dormitory, cleaning a little, a-and then I started thinking,” Another dry chuckle. "I convinced myself they all found something to do so they wouldn’t have to spend time with me and that they were probably shit-talking me when I wasn’t around, and then I-I just kept coming up with this kind of shit, and I felt worse and worse. And I know it’s just my head; I’m fully aware of it; it’s just—I can’t tell the difference between the nonsense it creates and what is actually true.” At the end, his voice was barely above whisper, the sobs trying to make their way back out of him.
And Regulus never stopped looking at him, still holding his cheeks and whipping away the tears that kept spilling.
“Did they ever tell you that they don’t like you?” he asked softly. James shook his head as an answer. “So why do you think so?”
“I don’t even know; I doubt I’ve ever given them a reason to hate me. But I’m just—I'm always all over the place, trying to make everyone smile, and when I’m not doing it, I overthink it. And every time I end up being angry with myself, because what if it makes all of them feel uncomfortable? What if I make them feel uncomfortable? And after the anger come the thoughts that I’m too much and I exhaust everyone and—“ a deep, shaky inhale, “I wish I could just switch it all off somehow.”
James sounded exhausted, defeated even, and Regulus has never felt so sorry for anyone besides Sirius. He felt defeated himself because he wanted to help that boy so badly; he wanted to make him feel better, but he didn’t know how. He was no specialist; he couldn’t give him some potions to muffle those thoughts—he could just sit there with him and listen, trying to take some of this pain away by simply being there for him.
“Do you want me to hug you?” Regulus asked, not taking his eyes off of James’, waiting for the approving nod that comes almost immediately.
So just like at the Astronomy Tower, he pulls James up and takes him into his arms, holding him tight.

day twelve: james potter you encounter james at the bus stop | fluff, pre-relationship, flirty friends | 1.1k
Tumblr media
The dark clouds loom ominously as you wait for the bus. It’s the best way to get to the pub for the birthday party you’ve been invited to. You don’t know the birthday girl that well, but Lily invited you because she’s nice like that and you don’t have anything else to do tonight.
Your small gift — a bottle of wine — is in your bag and you’re glad you brought your umbrella because you are almost positive it’s going to start raining any second and you’ve got a nice outfit on.
A fall wind rips down the street and you pull your coat closer, eager to be at the pub already with a drink in your hand to warm you up. You wonder who else will be there. Frank, of course, and Lily and the girls. Sirius and Remus and…James. They’re all new friends, all people who seem to like you, and you can’t help but hope that one person in particular will be there.
And then the skies open. You fumble with your umbrella for just a second before it pops open and keeps you dry. It’s absurdly big — an old flatmate left it behind when she moved out so you took it. You could fit three people under here and you hope the wind dies down otherwise you might be like Mary Poppins flying down the street pretty soon.
You check your watch. The bus isn’t due for almost ten minutes.
There isn’t anyone else waiting for the bus though the street isn’t deserted, instead dotted with people pulling out their umbrellas and hurrying to wherever they’re headed. Heavy footsteps clomp to your right and you turn to see who is running in this weather. It’s someone rather tall who inspects the bus stop sign and then curses. He pulls off his wet glasses and runs a hand through dripping dark hair.
Oh shit, you think. You know this guy.
“James?” you call. You don’t know if he’ll recognize you, truly, even if you’re a bit infatuated with him, but you’ve met him a few times at dinners and parties and such, so surely he will? You think of him as Lily’s cutest ex-boyfriend in your head to stop yourself from calling him hot James.
He looks up at you, squints, then puts his glasses back on and grins.
He calls your name and waves but doesn’t move. Thank god he remembers it. “James, come here. You’re going to get soaked!”
Water splashes under his shoes as he jogs over and under your umbrella. It’s big, sure, but it feels much smaller with him hunched under it with you.
“Bit late for that,” he says. “Can I hold it?” He’s taller than any of your other friends so you hand over the handle and he shuffles a bit closer, raising the canopy to a better height for him. “Thank you,” he says with genuine warmth.
“Of course,” you reply automatically. You get a bit silly around him, which Lily has teased you about, but you can’t help it. He’s so handsome and quite flirty and very nice.
“Are you going to Alice’s birthday?”
You nod and he grins again.
“Brilliant,” he says. “I am too. Thought I’d miss the bus so I left without one of these.”
James strikes you as someone who does not carry an umbrella even when he knows it’s going to rain. You wonder if he lives around here. Maybe you’re neighbors.
“Lucky I’m here then.”
He turns his body a bit so he’s facing you more directly. “Yes, lucky indeed.”
“What did you get her?” you ask. How do you make small talk, again? You’re not terribly sure how to speak to James. All you know about him is that he and Lily dated at school, he’s tall and handsome, and he plays some sort of sport. And you’ve certainly got a small, tiny, totally manageable crush on him.
“What?”
“Alice,” you clarify. “For her birthday.”
“Oh,” he says. He looks sheepish. “I forgot, actually. Bit classic of me, I’m afraid. What did you get?”
“Wine.”
“Clever girl,” he says. You feel warm down to your toes. “She loves wine.” He sounds genuine in his praise. “I’ll just buy her some shots when we get there.”
You like how quickly this has turned into we, even if you’re just taking the same bus to the same party. It feels nice to be going with him. There’s something about him that’s…magnetic.
“When is your birthday?” you ask.
James looks a bit surprised. You’ve surprised yourself. Water runs down his nose as he studies you. “March,” he says. “The 27th.”
“Aries,” you say softly.
He winks, so quick you might have imagined it. “Well done. When’s yours?”
You tell him and he nods. “I’m no good with star signs, I’m afraid, so I’ve no idea which one you are.”
He sounds so genuinely put out that you laugh. James chuckles with you.
“Why do you ask?” Great question.
You shrug. “I just like to know. Maybe I’ll get you a present.”
James looks delighted. “Really? Well, now I’m absolutely getting you one.” Is this flirting? Are you flirting with James Potter under your own umbrella while waiting for the bus?
“I guess you’ll have to find out,” you say, nose turned up. Your face feels a bit hot despite the chill. You’re about to make another quip when James moves very quickly and suddenly his arm is around you, tugging you away from the curb moments before a car rushes by and sprays water all over where you were standing.
“Sorry,” he says. He releases you and situates himself so that the umbrella handle is between you once more. “Saw that coming. And those are nice shoes.”
“Thank you,” you say, a bit shy. You would like him to touch you again.
“In fact, all of you looks quite lovely despite the fact that it’s raining absolute buckets.”
Yeah, definetly flirting. “James,” you chastise, but he looks downright pleased that he’s flustered you.
The bus rounds the corner.
“And we were just starting to have fun.” He fumbles for his bus pass in his pocket. “Will you sit with me?” A silly question.
“Of course,” you say through a smile. “You can hold this, though.” You point to the umbrella. “Don’t let it drip on my shoes.”
He gasps as the bus pulls to a stop. “I’d never.” His palm is firm on your back for just a second before you get on the bus. Maybe tonight’s birthday party will be more fun than you’d hoped.

hi laurie <3 i, too, am all aboard the bartylily train. that said, would you possibly spare some of your bartylily hcs?
hi han beloved <333 I LOVE TO TALK ABOUT THEM SO I'D LOVE TO SHARE SOME HCS i already posted some of them a while ago and u can read them here !! but that being said . here are some more
lily's friends completely despise barty and they never manage to get along with him, while barty's friends accept lily and hang out with her quite often !!
bc of this, i really think that there would exist some distance between lily and the marauders once she starts dating barty.. i feel like she's still very close to mary and marlene despite them not being fond of barty but . it'd be more difficult with james and the rest . for obvious reasons (until james starts dating reg and he also has to suffer barty on a regular basis)
barty is fucking obsessed with her.. he teases her and they bicker a lot but his cool act is just that: an act. he's screaming inside his head the whole time
they fuck a lot and they're real nasty about it. lily lovessss to let go and allow barty to take control, she becomes vvvv submissive and needy when she's horny and barty lives to make her feel good and fucking worship her
barty drives with one hand, cigarette twisted between his fingers, while the other stays on lily's thigh, always way too high to be considered respectable
he tries to be Better just for her bc barty believes lily deserves the very best and he's not That he's never been but lily loves him in all his trashy lame dirty glory
they have study dates and make out sloppy style during their smoke breaks
barty's mum absolutely adores lily and nothing brings barty more joy than seeing them getting along and spending time with each other
barty loves seeing lily get angry or be mean
and lily loves when barty is violent (especially if it's for her) and gets into fights
she always patches him up afterwards and kisses every single one of his injuries
they look like they don't belong together bc she's so princess-like, with her cardigans and her skirts and her gloss and her long red hair, and he's the guy your parents always warned you about, with his band shirts and his ripped jeans and his dirty untied converse and his piercings
and yet . they're Perfect . they balance each other out, and i genuinely feel that this is the relationship in which barty is his Sanest
don't get me wrong he's still a fucking weirdo and kind of unhinged but i feel like lily calms him down in the sense that he feels safe and seen enough to be able to drop some of his devil may care + nothing can touch me attitude
i've talked about this a hundred times but the whole point of their dynamic is that . they can leave their respective masks behind around each other . they're not Lily Evans The Saint or Barty Crouch Jr The Failure . they're just lily and barty!!! you know??
they always smoke after sex
barty bakes with his mum and brings every new thing they make to lily when he goes to pick her up from work
holding hands at all times!!! and she always sits on his lap when they're out!!!!

Marauders Micro-Fics based on Sherlock Holmes Quotes
Quote 1: "My name is Sherlock Holmes, it is my business to know what other people don't know."
Lily was engrossed in her book when her girlfriend suddenly flopped down onto her lap with a small sigh. Startled, Lily set her book down and redirected her attention to her partner. "What's up?" she asked, concerned.
"I know it's not my business, but I'm desperate to know," Mary said, giving Lily a pout.
"What did you hear this time?" Lily asked, already anticipating some juicy gossip.
"James is dating someone, and I can't figure out who it is," her girlfriend said with a sigh.
Before Lily could respond, Sirius spoke up from his spot on the floor, where he was painting Marlene's nails. "He's dating Regulus," he said nonchalantly.
Both girls whipped around to look at him, surprised. They hadn't even realized he was in the room with them. "Did they tell you?" Mary asked, not quite believing Sirius.
Sirius looked up from his painting. "No, they didn't. And yet I still know. After all, my name is Sirius Black, and it is my business to know what other people don't know."
Mary and Lily exchanged a look of disbelief, wondering how Sirius had managed to find out about James and Regulus's relationship. Meanwhile, Sirius finished his task, painting the last nail on Marlene's hand.

dorcas' relationship with every friend she's had:
pandora- best friends. each other's closest person before marlene/xenophilius came along. understand each other on a deep level and tell each other everything. hang out a lot outside school, which is also a little hard with my hc of pandora being from republic of ireland and dorcas from northern ireland (but i assume there would be a floo system or something in place). dorcas was luna's godparent (well, for about 5 months)
regulus- best friends (neither would ever admit that to each other). they mostly sit in silence whilst doing their own thing. the introverts ever. very different people with very different backgrounds and experiences and social views but they bond over hating talking to people and quidditch and books and studying hard
evan- they bond over being two of the only slytherins that smoke weed and also trying to talk to regulus and getting shut down. they're more friend by association than anything (even being regulus' roommate and dorcas becoming friends with regulus). evan is the least tight with his money, so dorcas gets free stuff from him a lot
barty- also become friends by association (but more through pandora). they fall out every other week then barty tells his mum and his mum makes him apologise to cas everytime. colours their hair together (although barty dyes his back before the holidays). both their love languages are mocking/being mean to their crush
lily- bond over school work (the other slytherins in dorcas' year don't like her and lily and remus are the only gryffindors willing to work with her in class). study together a lot. bond over their rivals to lovers relationships and hate for the english (scottish lily <3). they also snog sometimes for fun. so so so competitive. also both football fans which they bond over even though they support different teams
mary- become friends only once dorcas and marlene start dating (but dorcas did know mary by going to mary to get their hair done- hc that mary would do cut/style other student's hair for money). mary gives them 'the talk' and then they get drunk and bitch about marlene to each other. very different people with very different hobbies but they still manage to connect.

Sirius Black, one of the most famous actors of the 20th Century. A womanizer of sorts. The media loves him, his family? not so much.
Wherever he goes, tragedy and drama follow. He's smart, he's cunning, he's charming, he's manipulative. He goes after what he wants and he always gets it.
He's had seven wives, or at least that's how the story goes. Everytime, he's pictured with some different woman. He never really manages to stay with the same one for very long.
He's never been one for subtlety. Always loud and obnoxious and transparent.
At least that's what the media thought of him.
An old Hollywood legend, friends- with the likes of James Potter, Lily Evans, the directors Mary McDonald and of course his own brother he rescued from their abusive parents, Regulus Black.
They're like a galaxy by themselves. Always revolving around one another. All of them stars, but Sirius burns the brightest.
Near the end of his life, he hires his godson to write his memoir. And so Harry Potter, son of James Potter and Lily Evans, writes the story of Sirius Black, his seven wives, James Potter and his "marriage" to Lily Evans and the peculiar case of Regulus Black.
The public goes crazy, naturally.
The book goes through Sirius' life. At first, how his parents were abusive, how Sirius learned the traits he mastered later to be a good liar, mostly as a survival tactic.
Harry has written about how eventually it got so bad, Sirius had to run away to his best friend's house. Fleamont and Euphemia Potter, both being in the film industry had no problem introducing James and Sirius as new talents. Nepotism gets you everywhere.
The book goes onto how Sirius starred in his first movie with James, something about two young boys during the World War. Sirius had finally found his calling. He loved it, the cameras, the attention, the articles. He absolutely loved it and he used his fame for everything.
After the release of his first movie, he gets a letter, just two words. Sirius, help. And so he does. Regulus was an adult by then, and yet unable to escape the grasp their parents had on him. So Sirius did what his baby brother asked. He helped.
The papers went crazy with that one. "FILM STAR SIRIUS BLACK KIDNAPS BROTHER FROM FAMILY HOUSE" It only makes Sirius laugh harder. Because the papers have always been wrong. There hasn't been a single thing in his life the Papers have been right about and if there was, it was because Sirius had laid all the answers in front of them, waiting for them to piece things together.
In any case, he continued his rise to fame. James' second movie was with an actress their age with flaming red hair and just as fierce a personality. James had been in love since the moment he laid his eyes on her.
Lily Evans had come from a poor background, with none of the connections Sirius and James had. And yet she'd proved herself multiple times.
They dated for a while in their early twenties, but it didn't seem to work out so they stayed friends.
Sirius' third movie, Regulus' first, was directed by a woman Sirius was first tongue tied around. Not in the romantic sense, Sirius had just never met a female director until then.
Mary McDonald was a force to be reckoned with. If Lily had been fierce, Mary was a whole different story.
As unprofessional as it was, they dated for a while. The papers had a field day with that as well. "MARY MCDONALD, DIRECTOR SLEEPS WITH ACTOR FOR CONNECTIONS"
Sirius never paid them much mind. He got what he wanted from Mary and so did she. When they eventually stopped dating because they figured out neither liked the other romantically, they continued to stay friends.
When Lily won her first well deserved award, they went out to celebrate. Just them. James drove, Sirius in the passenger seat, Regulus suffering in the backseat grumbling about how he'd rather be anywhere but there.
That's not to say the others weren't successful. James had girls wrapped around his finger, millions would literally throw themselves at him. And yet he never reciprocated, never went out with anyone after Lily.
He was a successful actor in his own right, films after films after films. He was a diverse actor, anything from biopics and romance to tragedy and comedy.
Regulus acted in plays mostly, though he did his own share of films. The public loved him, word on the street was- men mainly.
So they drove and drove to the middle of nowhere. Just Sirius, James, Regulus, Lily and Mary. Until they stopped at some shitty diner surrounded by nothingness as far as the eye could see.
That's where Sirius met Remus for the first time. Just a waiter, a snarky one that seemed to have no idea who they were and was downright rude to Sirius at times.
And still, they all came back. Again and again and again. When Mary won her first award for one of her films, when Regulus won awards for the musicals he starred in, when Regulus ditched theatre entirely and moved to music, when Sirius won his first golden globe- again and again and again. Somehow they always ended up in that diner.
Which is how Sirius found himself visiting the diner alone sometimes, just to get to talk to Remus in that small town where no one knew him. Which in turn is how he found himself in bed with Remus more times than just once.
So when Sirius won his first Oscar, he dedicated it to his Moony of course. And the public went wild as they had a reputation of. "ACTOR SIRIUS BLACK'S NEW SWEETHEART?"
It's not that Sirius hadn't dated before Remus. Hell, he'd even had a Vegas wedding with a fellow actress, a small wild fling with a famous singer and he'd lost track of all the women who wanted him. But this was different. As the times were, he knew the two of them would never be able to live as they wanted. Fame had given Sirius everything he wanted and yet it couldn't give him Remus.
They broke up, they made up, they got back together. Again and again and again.
Later, Sirius wondered why they wasted so much time.
Sirius caught James and Regulus in the bathrooms at the Grammys once. He'd groaned in disgust and made a huge deal out of it, teasing the two endlessly.
Regulus had been beetroot red even as he got on stage to collect his award. James had just hung his head in shame in the audience, only looking up during Regulus' speech where he thanked Sirius and "the sun" whatever that meant.
They were always in each other's orbit. Whether it was because James, Regulus, Lily and Mary wanted a child they decided to coparent, or simply because they were all just best of friends.
Remus didn't like the fame part much, but he tolerated it for Sirius' sake.
As always, rumors arose and so Sirius had to deal with them. He went in public, flirted with a few women, got into pr relationships and a few pr marriages over the following years.
His last marriage was to Mary, or rather his last legal marriage. Because in his heart, he'd been married to Remus as long as they'd been dating.
Fame trickled away, as it usually does. But they were immortalized for their works.
And now, after all of them had gone, Sirius would immortalize them for the right reasons. He wanted to tell the public their real story, not the one they had been acting in for decades.
And so Harry Potter wrote his book.

Not me thinking of how hinny (harry x ginny) in the books would have gone if Jegulus and Marlily raised harry!!
Like Harry def told Mary and Lily first. Cause hes tryna attract a girl. WTF DO REGULUS AND JAMES know about getting a girl? Also, he wld def ask Mary how she got Lily cause Ginny looks like Lily. I think Marlene wld pull out Mary’s old diary and show Harry a page titled “PLANS TO GET RED”!! I think Mary wouldn’t be much help but Marlene definitely had a “HOW TO GET THE CUTE SLYTHERIN” and she would cancel the word slytherin and replace it with Chaser (Ginny).
I feel like he would only really involve his dads after he gets tgt with Ginny and realises he’s broken 1918827828 friendship codes by dating his best mate’s little sister (something James knows a thing or two abt). Obviously, James would pretend he’s above it all and say “just tell Ron. I mean at worst you get beat up. Padfoot chewed all of my red converses and ate my autographed quaffle. I’m sure Ron is wayyyyyy nicer.” Of course, Harry will tune that out the same way James tuned out Arthur’s same advice. Instead, he’ll look for the diabolical slytherin aka SLYTHERIN SKITTLES for help.
Big mistake: Barty and Dorcas are laughing so hard they fall down. Pandora who already knows how this is gonna end (cause she is a seer) is sighing. Evan is trying to help but can’t because AGAIN what does he know about girls? And also he’s engaged to an only child!! Regulus AKA Professor BLACK to the rest of the students is sighing and questioning how Harry not only managed to find but also date someone who is a mix of both himself and Lily (the two great loves of James’ life).
Unable to help, Regulus will probably refer him to Sirius (consult the enemy). Sirius is probably the last one to know about Hinny (naturally, Reg and Remus found out first cause they work at Hogwarts). He is definitely very salty about it (EVEN PETE knew before him). So, Sirius wouldn’t help his godson. He’d just say something about karma after Harry sasses him for the thirtieth that day.
Eventually, Harry gives up and comes clean to Ron. He braces himself but Ron just goes “oh ok. Sorry I already knew.” He was completely fine with it cause urm Ginny is her own person? And he respects her? So, Harry relaxes. He doesn’t have to sleep in the room of requirements for fear that Ron will send a rat to him. That is until he feels two identical hands on both sides of his shoulders. Fred and George Weasley are looking down at him with matching mischievous grins. “So you’re dating our little Ginny eh?”

they also have a picnic with food they made themselves
they give each other little kisses all the time
nobleflower
narcissa pretends to hate valentine's too, but she can't help herself when alice is her valentine
alice gives her sappy cards throughout the day, and narcissa writes her love letters and gives her jewelry
they spend most of the day in their dorm, giving each other makeover and trying on each other's clothes
alice makes the fudgiest brownie ever and she makes both of them two of them and they get eaten immediately
they're even more affectionate with each other tha usually
emmary
give each other (handmade) jewelry
talk about their crushes

Dorcas was working the night shift at the bar, and, as usual, a fight broke out. Dorcas was never the one who got involved in these fights, but all she could see was five men crowding two women in the corner. They were holding each other and looked scared.
"Bruno, take over for me." The boy nodded and took her place behind the bar.
As she walked over to the fight, she heard slurs. Gay slurs. Dorcas scoffs. "Boys!" They turn around to face her. "What is going on here?"
One man narrows his eyes at her. "No one asked black bitch."
Dorcas' eyes go wide and her eyebrows fly up. "What the fuck did you just say to me?"
She feels hands on her from behind. "Cas, it's not worth it."
"James, let me go."
"Cas,"
"Their homophobic and racist."
Dorcas hears James chuckle from behind her, and he lets go. "Boys, what are we doing?"
In the club lighting, James does look white, which is probably why the men talk to him. "These <girls> were making out in the corner."
"What's wrong with that?"
"Their both <girls>."
"So?"
All five men look at each other. "Girls can't date each other."
"Why not?"
"It's not right."
"I don't get why. You love who you love."
"White boys are supposed to stick together."
James laughs and looks back at Dorcas. "Are they serious?" He looks back at them. "I'm not white. I'm Hispanic."
The men's faces morph into disbelief. "What?"
"Oh, and this girl, right here. My best friend is her girlfriend, and her best friend is my boyfriend."
Then their faces morph into disgust. "Fags!"
James laughs. "Hey, Cas. Call Marls. Better yet, call everyone."
"Everyone, everyone?"
"Everyone."
"James,"
"Do it."
She pulls out her phone quickly and calls the group chat labeled <Gays>. "Cas! What's up!" Sirius' voice comes from the other end.
"Just waiting for everyone else."
Remus comes into view from Sirius' Phone. "Oh, hey Cas." As he says that, Marlene joins, followed by Mary with Emmeline, Lily with Pandora, Barty with Evan, Peter with Sybil, Alice with Frank, and Emma with Regulus.
"James is about to get involved in a fight."
"Turn the camera, Cas." Regulus responds. As she does, James threw the first fist. "James Fleamont Potter!"
James stops in his tracks. "You weren't supposed to show them!"
"How was I supposed to not! Its Reg!"
"So?"
"You can't even say no!" At that, the man who was in front of him punches him in the face. James staggers back.
"Not the point." James grits out.
"James,"
"Just get the girls out of the corner, Cas."
Dorcas can barely hear Sirius wooping over the phone in all the chaos. Dorcas did manage to get the two girls out of the bar without a single hit on either of them, but one of the men threw a punch at her.
When she looked back at her phone, Marlene was gone. She hung up.
<Oh no. She saw the punch.>
Reg and Emma were gone, too. She's assuming they left when one man threw a punch at James. Everyone else is still on the call, but their all in a car.
"James! Reg, Marls, and Emma hung up!"
"Fuck!" Dorcas looks at James. He didn't say fuck because of what she said, it was because women were now joining in and James doesn't hut women.
"Damn it." Dorcas was never one to get in a fight, ever. But she will for her friends. Dorcas runs at one of the women and punches her straight in the nose. The woman staggers back and looks at her in disbelief.
"What'd you do that for!?"
"You hit my friend, I hit you."
Dorcas hears a man groan from behind her and an unmistakable laugh. She turns around, and there her girlfriend is, laughing her ass off after what she assumes is kicking him in the nuts.
Dorcas chuckles and smiles at her girlfriend. Next, she hears a battle cry and then a thud. She turns back around and sees a woman on the ground and Emma standing over her.
"Don't mess with my friends, bitch!"
She looks around her and Regulus is throwing a punch at the man that hit James. "Don't touch my Fiancé."
The doors open, and all their friends come running in and start throwing punches. Dorcas smiles and throws a fist right at a woman's breast. In return, she throws a fist at hers.
The woman doubles over, Marlene standing behind her. "That's my Fiancé, you little cunt! Don't touch her!"
Ten minutes go by before the fight ceases down, and everyone is outside on the curb, getting scolded by Effie and Monty, James' parents, who own the bar.
"What did we tell you about starting fight?" Effie asks.
"That we shouldn't?" Alice says.
"Correct, and what did you do?"
"Technically, we didn't start the fight." Sirius responds.
"No, but James and Dorcas did."
"It wasn't our fault!" James yells.
"You still started it, Jamie." Marlene replies.
"She's right, James."
James whips his head around to her. "You can't say anything. You were the one who was going to start it in the first place, and you never disagree with Marls."
"You never do either!"
"Yes, I do!"
"Yes, he does." Marlene says at the same time as James.
"Ok, stop." Monty says. "Explain to us exactly what happened."
"Well, I was at the bar, and I saw two girls getting surrounded by those men. I told Bruno to take over the bar like I always do but when I went up to them and asked what was wrong, they called me a black bitch."
"I didn't hear what they said to Cas but I tried to stop her and she told me they were homophobic and racist so I told them about Marls and Reg, and that I was Hispanic. I told Cas to call everyone, and they started saying mean things to me, so I threw the first punch."
"All we saw was James throwing the first punch." Lily said.
"So, you all hot in this fight because of them being racist and homophobic?" Effie asks.
They all look at each other and nod. "Yeah, basically." Mary says.
"Emmeline,"
"What? I did it for them."
"Remus,"
"I tried to stop Sirius, but then someone punched me."
"Frank?"
"Alice drove."
"Evan?"
"Reg had already hung up."
"Barty?"
"Evan was already leaving."
"Peter?"
"I just followed everyone."
"Sybil?"
"I might be peaceful, but I wasn't going to stand for that."
"Pandora?"
"My friends were in trouble, and they got called fags."
"Ok, no more fight. Kick them out before a fight starts. Got it?" Monty says.
"Yes." They all say simultaneously.
They all smile and walk back in the bar to get some drinks. Leaving Effie and Monty outside for them to go back home.

@jilychallenge2023 @jilychallenge | September: Back To School | Partner : @ginemrys | Prompt: Hogsmeade/Three Broomsticks, “Here, there’s only one sugar quill left, but we can share.” Read it on AO3 or below the cut.
It was customary for the gryffindor seventh years to congregate together in The Three Broomsticks for a drink before making their way back up to the castle from Hogsmeade. The head boy had managed to arrive on time, but his counterpart was still nowhere to be seen. A fact that only slightly worried the collective, as it was most unlike Lily to be late, but she was a witch capable of holding her own against most. Mary and Marlene had parted ways with her outside Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop, knowing their friend could be lost to the shelves there for hours. She’d mentioned needing to also pop into Honeyduke’s, so if she hadn’t arrived in another fifteen minutes they’d start the search.
A cold wind swept into the pub when the front door opened, revealing a sour looking Lily in a pea green winter cloak. She stalked over to her friend’s table and plonked herself down into the booth beside James, letting out an exasperated huff.
“Alright, Evans?” He asked, pushing a butterbeer along the table and into her hands. The same one he’d been guarding from Sirius for the better part of the last thirty minutes, after he’d thrown back the first James had purchased and intended for Lily.
“Annoyed at myself more than anything. I thought if I left Honeyduke’s ‘til last I’d avoid the rush crowd of all the third years. But by the time I’d got there they were all out of the fudge I like, not to mention sugar quills,” she complained. “I mean really! How can they sell out of sugar quills? I’m gutted, they’re my favourite.”
“I warned you.” Marlene sing-songed, “You’ll just have to order them via owl.” then dropping her voice to barely above a whisper, “Or you get one of this lot of sneaks you some in at a later date when they smuggle in the firewhisky for the post-quidditch party.”
Sirius offered a cheeky wink and raised his pint in agreement. No one was certain how the boys got goods in and out of the castle as well as they did, but Lily would turn a blind eye if it meant she could get her hands on something sweet.
Beside her James shuffled and extracted a brown paper bag from Honeydukes out of his cloak pocket and laid it between them. “Here, there’s only one sugar quill left, but we can share.”
“Oh James! I could kiss you!” Lily exclaimed happily, diving into the bad and retrieving the promised treat and offering him a peck on the cheek.
James cheeks and the tips of his ears tinged pink, catching something Sirius had muttered under his breath to Remus. “You’re welcome, Evans.”
“You call that a kiss, Evans?” Sirius jeered playfully. “The guy buys you a pint and sacrifices his last sugar quill for you and that’s the thanks he gets.”
“Padfoot!” James hissed. “Cut the shit.”
But Lily didn’t seem to mind the teasing. “I’m more than happy to pay for the pint, Potter.”
“Completely unnecessary. Sirius is just being a dickhead, I bought the whole table a round.” James shook his head dismissively and sipped at his own glass.
“Oh, so now you’re telling me I’m not special?”
James nearly choked, spluttering butterbeer. “That is not what I said.”
“Then what’s the harm in letting me pay you back for your chivalry hmm?” She replied coyly, gripping his face under his chin, tilting it so she could place a chaste kiss on his lips.
His brain didn’t have a chance to catch up before she pulled aways, as it was too busy imploding. Her lips had been cold thanks to the weather outside, but they had still been soft and the taste tainted with traces of sugar quill. The table at large laughed at his dumbstruck smirk and Lily fixed Sirius with a pointed look. “Will that suffice for you Black?”
“Better.” The boy grinned. “You’ll have to ask the head boy when he recovers and returns to his senses.”
The head boy did come to his senses several hours after the fact, behind a tapestry on the third floor. With the head girl up against the wall, pressing kisses into the side of her neck. “What happened to keeping this on the downlow then, hmm? Kissing me for all the Three Broomsticks to see is distinctly not that.” He breathed against her bare skin.
“Couldn’t resist.” she giggled, tilting her head back to expose more of her neck. “Besides, I was testing the waters. We will have to tell our friends eventually, Mary’s getting suspicious.”
“By all means, Evans. I’m happy to shout it from the rooftops. You know they’d all approve.” He smiled, nipping gently at her pulse point.
“I know… I just really don’t want Sirius to win the bet.”

I never was the best to you
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sirius Black x Female!Reader, Subtle Remus Lupin x Female!Reader.
In which you and Sirius break up and you realise you were never the best to him.
1.6k
tw: angst, depression, not eating, suicidal thoughts (kind of), my shitty writting.
This imagine is based off of the song 'Best' by Gracie Abrams. I'm going to be honest 'Good Riddance' destroyed what was left of my mental health. Also this is my first attempt writting something so sorry if it sucks (because I'm pretty sure it does).
Tumblr media
The first week after things between me and him ended wasn't easy. I didn't have the energy to get out of bed, the thought only exhausted me. I skipped most of the day's meals, not only becasue I didn't have an appetite but I wanted to avoid him at all costs. Which meant avoiding the Great Hall and being absent from both breakfats and dinner.
Lily would offer bring food in my dorm for me after dinner.
I knew she was worried about me. Both her and the Marauders, minus Sirius of course, had made many fruitless attempts to get me to do something productive, or do anything at all. James went as far as saying I could borrow his invisibility cloak, which was his most prized possesion, so that I could walk around the castle without him noticing.
Remus offered to take me to 'The Three Broomsticks' on a Saturday afternoon, which was by far their busiest day, even though he hated crowded places. Lilly cancelled her date with James just so me and her, along with Marlene, Dorcas and Mary, who also ditched their plans for me, could hang out all day. "Think of it as an 'Only Girls’ day. No boys allowed" she had said.
I had turned every single one of their offers down.
I must really have sucked at being a friend back then.
They gave me many chances to move on and to forget, to feel alive again. But I felt like I couldn't let go of him just yet so I decided to stay dead, let the days pass without a meaning in them. It was too soon.
The one time Lily managed to get me out of bed that week was on a gloomy Thursday afternoon, when she walked with me to the Great Hall for dinner. I was relieved when I took notice of Sirius' absence. I wasn't sure I could face him yet.
But it wasn't ten minutes later when Sirius walked into the Great Hall with a dark haired Ravenclaw, who was laughing over something he had said moments ago, holding his hand. My heart only broke into tinier of pieces at the sight, ones that I thought I wouldn't be able to restore.
The boy stopped, kissing the girl on the lips before they parted her going to sit by her friends at the Ravenclaw table while he headed our way. Only when he turned his head to scan the table for the rest of the Marauders did he notice me.
His expression didn't flicker, that silly smile still lingering on his face. That silly smile I grew to love, only to hate later on. He walked over to us and sat next to Prongs, who happened to be sitting across from me.
He sighed and started filling his plate with food before eating. I stayed there frozen. How could he have gotten over us in such a short time. It was like I never meant anything to him. But even if I did back then, I clearly don't now.
So I sat there, looking at him casually conversing with Oliver, the Gryffindor boy in our year who happened to sit next to him. We were so close, yet so far apart.
I regretted not listening to Lily telling me not to fall in love with him back then, because it would end up with my heart broken. I regretted the memories I made with him, I regretted that he was most, if not all, of my firsts. I regretted him.
He was the worst of my crimes. The one that caused me such pain that if I could turn back time, I'd never commit.
Remus, who seemed to notice my discomfort, placed a hand on my thigh softly as if he wanted to tell me 'It's okay, I'm here for you, still'. The subtle move had me melting. Why couldn't Sirius be more like his friend?
Then the Ravenclaw girl from earlier came over. She took Oliver's seat next to Sirius and interlocked their hands. Valerie, she introduced herself. She was in the year below us and seemed to be completely oblivious to the fact that it hadn't even been a full week since me and Sirius had broken up.
I told her my name, for I didn't her to think I had anything against her. Anything at all. It didn't matter that the boy I loved most had left me just to get with her a few days later.
Deep down I wanted to scream.
Instead I sat silently, Remus' hand still on my thigh, watching the two interact. And at that moment I waved goodbye to all the versions of myself I was when he was still with me. 'Good Riddance'.
Looking back, I an see why things took such a turn. I was never good enough for him, let alone the best. And I would never be, no matter how much I tried.
I would lie to him constantly. I'd tell him I was alright, even when I was clearly struggling. I kept my problems to myself, not daring to let him completely in, fearing he would leave me if he saw how bad things actually were.
I felt like I had to make up a completely different version of my life, like I had to hide all my flaws and struggles. I felt like I had to create this perfect image for him to love me.
I knew I shouldn't but I couldn't help but keep lying to him. It was like a little strange addiction of mine.
Even when I completely isolated myself he'd try to stay, he'd try to help me. He might not have known what I was going through at the moment but he still tried to be supportive and made sure it was known to me that he cared.
And even though I knew he was there for me, I still passed him away and built countless of walls around me so I could keep my struggles secret. So I would still be perfect in his eyes, when in truth everything was falling apart.
He had every right to leave. He could have anyone he wanted, he of course wouldn't want to stay with someone who was drowning in their own thoughts. He could be with someone so much better than me, so much prettier than me, someone so much smarter. Someone like Valerie.
I never was the best to him.
So why would he stay with me?
We were so different; it is even surprising how we got together in the first place. He was loud and brave, and always voiced out his thoughts. I was quiet and shy, and afraid of almost everything. The dark, thunders, growing up, making decisions.
I feel terrible because I gave such gravity to so little things that didn't matter at all. He was struggling too, with his family and his brother but instead of helping him through his problems I neglected him. Focusing on my own demons.
That's what I regret, most of all. That I didn't care enough for him, or at least I didn't show it.
If I could, I would change every little thing about the way I handled it.
He let me in. He trusted me with his struggles and his fears, he let me see the sensitive side of him. He let himself break down in front of me, he let me see him in a vulnerable position. He gave me the best of himself, never hiding anything from me.
It wass my fault, it was all my fault and I'd never let myself forget this.
But he moved on. He healed and kept going like we never existed while I was still right where he had left me. I was losing every last bit of self control I had, my grip on reality slipping. I was building so many walls around me that it was suffocating.
But I deserved it. I deserved it all. For what I did to him.
Sometimes I wonder if everyone would be better off without me. Maybe if I wasn't there the Marauders and the girls wouldn't have to worry about me. My parents wouldn't have to be disappointed in their child. My teachers wouldn't worry about my well being, that seemed to have taken a toll on my grades. Sirius wouldn’t have felt neglected once again by a person he loved.
Sometimes I just wish I could end it.
It would be okay if I didn't exist in the first place. But if I left now, the only thing I would achieve was to wound the ones that still cared. And I couldn't bring myself to do that.
So I stayed.
And things eventually got better.
I still regret it.

marauders / skittles band au
okay so hear me out the marauders band au is already an established thing right?
my take is remus - bass, sirius - voice + guitar peter - drums, james - guitar
but here’s the twist the skittles are also a band who are on tour at the same time
so dorcas - bass, pandora - voice, evan - drums, barty - guitar, reg - voice, guitar
lily and mary are their own duo who open for the skittles often and marlene is the manager for the marauders
the marauders and the skittles are rival bands who compete since they both have huge fanbases, but their tour buses break down while they’re traveling and they’re forced to interact
no ships would be established yet at all since both bands had a no inter-band dating rule and then everything goes out the window yay
it would probably end in wolfstar, jegulily, dorlene, and rosekiller (or maybe jegulus and pandalily)
idk i’m not a writer but it’s kinda cool maybe i’ll draw it
