If I rewrote the last part of Honkai (with the self-imposed rule of keeping the lore/endgoal relatively intact, my thoughts would be different if I’m allowed to do anything tbh) I would add an arc between ER/EE and the moon arc.

We deserved a proper WS arc. Instead of Suddenly, Stigma Is Done, we could’ve had a build up to make us suspect not everything is at it seems. Get Mei to breathe, cope with losing THIRTEEN friends to a Herrscher, and re-evaluate what she’s doing in WS— her leaving in the epilogue and Kevin going yeah you can go xoxo was anti-climactic as hell, I feel so blueballed 💀.

So basically (and keep in mind I’m making this up as I go, it’s a first draft type of idea)

First off I hate the last two acts of EE so I’m throwing those out. Reconstructing Elysia doesn’t magically revive anyone, it basically just gives Mei admin power over ER as its heir (you know? what they intended for her. No because of you the player bullshit. It’s all because of Mei, it’s always been HER arc.)

Mei fights HoC herself, complete with the FCs fighting by her sides as signet hallucinations and symbolism of “they finally were allowed to fight all together through her”. Mei pins down HoC, sees the FC hallucinations all smiling at her, telling her to do it, they were happy to have met her, they bless her etc… and Mei deletes ER herself. Her enemy and her friends melt away, destroyed permanently. The epilogue is Mei finding passed out but intact Klein and picking her up, and Kevin showing up at the exit but remains stoic (taking Klein from her?). We can even keep the bit of why he didn’t step in, but nothing about STIGMA or quitting.

After that we get to see some Mei downtime in WS, she gets a visit— Raven learns what happened with ER from her, they get to mourn and reminisce about the people they both knew properly before moving on with the plot.

WS hides its plans from Mei, which she starts suspecting, and she gets sent in a mission that lets her actually CLASH with the good guys— maybe with Fu Hua, to give her some much needed screentime? It could be interesting as well to have them ACTUALLY TALK, and to show how things have or haven’t changed after Mei got to hang out with a much younger Hua. Hua tries to get her to defect but Mei refuses, saying she still needs answers— and Hua admits her memory has too many holes for her to give her what she wants. Only WS, MOTH’s heir, has the answers.

Also, Mei mentions the Realm, confusing Hua, and Mei realizes she forgot that. It hurts. She shuts up because it’s gone, and she feels guilty for taking Hua’s chance to meet her dead friends again away. Kevin doing it was such an an afterthought in canon it was dumb.

We get some scenes of the main gang as well, Kiana keeping up with Durandal’s training, since I don’t have the CCP to worry about have Bronya and Seele secretly wonder if Durandal has a crush on Kiana because she’s acting so weird. (the truth is stranger than fiction, girls). Some clashes between SS and AE now that they have to work together, which Theresa tries to manage. Since I said I’m keeping the lore mostly intact, have Bronya and Seele bring up Bronya’s harsh childhood and talk about what they know of their biological parents. Dark Seele admits she only started waking up regularly when Seele was at the orphanage so she actually has zero idea. They talk about Cocolia and Sin a bit as well, where they stand with them etc.

Meanwhile! After that mission, Mei gets called out for not doing her job right because she was soft on her old friends, and she starts thinking about leaving for good soon. She interacts with a Gray Serpent, who is cryptic as usual but commands her for being their most promising agent despite her soft heart. She briefly bumps into Hare (the real one) and gets a weird feeling from her, thinking she looks a bit like Kiana, and she basically exudes depression. I want her to also have a talk with Jackal, and mentioning Mobius (maybe she assumed Klein would try to find work in a familiar setting but she’s not there, she’s already on the moon preparing things) just so we can close ER ch2’s plot thread of Jackal causing Mobius to go stir-crazy by saying they never found the real Mobius in reality.

Some time passes, more regular gang shenanigans that starts foreshadowing the moon plot and AE’s plans to deal with Finality (like Kiana asking about the battleship onscreen instead of just telling us she did later). The events for them can be jumbled around a bit, it’s just to avoid them getting completely sidelined and get the more secondary characters some scenes to shine in.

Back to Mei. She’s already gone through the database, ER is a bust, she’s missing her final answer because of HoC’s bullshit— but Hua was right, there’s still someone at WS who can give her answers. She’s been mulling it over and she’s going to do it today.

Mei confronts Kevin one on one (yes she booked a formal meeting). Mei knows him well now; she has his signet too, she spent time together with his sim, and she realizes that after everything she can try and force the answers out of him, since she’s now proven herself. What is Honkai? What is the Will? What really happened to Elysia? What is he hiding?

Kevin is reminded of Dr.MEI, contemplating how utterly different they are despite looking alike— and he actually starts talking. I’m gonna think harder about the exact content but for now here’s what I think he says.

First he tells Mei about the samsara they’re in, and how she’s got Dr.MEI’s spot in this samsara, emphasizing that each iteration is different but starts on the same basis, much like how Mei and MEI’s lives took radically different turns and they became extremely different people, despite being born with the same face under similar circumstances.

Mei shook (1) but she remembers that one eyes closed photo she saw of MEI, and how they indeed looked alike.

After Kevin reveals how Finality turns back time, he broaches that this is their last cycle, their last chance, because Elysia broke Fate and they traded passing down extra knowledge and strength to the embers of the new civilisation against Humanity getting more tries to survive Honkai, so they’re not going to be able to bunker down and try again with their civilisation revived.

Mei asks how Elysia managed it, and I’m gonna change her death back to what it was built up to be because I don’t like what we got. Elysia was a Herrscher the entire time, infiltrated MOTH and revealed herself as the 13th, becoming the common enemy of Humanity. Five of her closest friends came to fight her off— Kevin, Eden, Vill-V, Aponia and Mobius.

(I’m confident they only removed Mobius because they couldn’t give her a green flower, which is stupid. She was stated to have been there in earlier ER convos.)

From this point on, the tale becomes Kevin’s memory projection, so Mei gets to watch it play out.

Elysia ran away from the base after a very public “eruption”, and they believed maybe it was a sliver of sanity left in her before she completely lost it— but soon she would come back because after the three last cities got nuked there was virtually no human left to kill besides MOTH staff. So they had to strike first.

There’s an epic fight where Elysia seems to have completely lost her mind and they finally manage to pin her down— and Mobius reveals to Elysia they came to capture her alive, claiming it’s for her experiments on a live Herrscher but it’s pretty obvious it’s because they’re all completely worn out emotionally and they just want their friend back.

Elysia is shocked, because she has been acting this whole time hoping that she would be able to restore Humanity’s confidence and unity when they beat her without horribly cruel collateral, in preparation for HoFin who she can feel is going to descend extremely soon— and she was also going to use this to return to the Cocoon to give the humans a chance to survive.

This makes her break character and they realize she’s ACTUALLY for good conscious and has been acting and they’re not too happy about that, feeling she’s betrayed them, and she spills the beans.

She reveals she’s not the 13th, but the Herrscher of Origin who has been walking among humans before the Herrscher of Reason even descended. She joined MOTH so Humanity wouldn’t lose too early, hoping that, given some extra help and time from her, they’d surpass Finality.

Elysia apologizes for picking RIN as a Herrscher, wondering if Sakura would forgive her, expressing grief about finding someone compatible enough with Honkai not to go crazy, only for her to die and then take Sakura and so many humans with her. It turns out she’s been sporadically intentionally influencing the Cocoon, hoping that it would bring a more optimal outcome— but picking a MOTH Soldier didn’t work, splitting the core into 1000 pieces to make it easier on the human mind to utilize didn’t work, making the Herrscher an anti-energy type was a complete and utter disaster…Despite the relative success of the MANTIS program, the Honkai’s embrace never led to coexistence.

In her eyes, every Herrscher’s violence is a “choice” of humanity, instincts amplified by Honkai’s embrace (so like what happened to RIN in the end), as much as the response to fight them was… and here they are.

This little italics conversation that they changed occurs.

They question whether everything about Elysia was a lie, but she denies it, saying that she (and by extension, the Honkai) loves each and every one of them sincerely, and that she always wanted to create a paradise for Humanity, even if she never really was worthy of being called a human.

Mobius is big mad— telling her that she’s just as human as any of them, she laughs and hides her pain and plays pranks and loves others, and all she did was betray both herself and them by “letting nature take its course”.

Surprisingly Elysia says she’s right. The Honkai is arrogant to play with Humanity’s fate like this, even out of love, and as an extension of it she made the same choice… but it was never fair. Humanity should write its own story, and evolve in the ways they like, not the ways the Honkai wants.

And so Elysia tells them she’ll do what she should have done a long time ago, and returns to the cocoon, rearranging the stars and breaking Fate.

It’s the end of the memory, and Mei is stunned and a bit emotional (even here you can’t escape watching Elysia die multiple times, sorry). She asks Kevin what exactly, then, is Honkai.

“You heard her didn’t you? You got to know her. You already know.”

“It’s that love of hers. What we know as “Honkai” is her embrace.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you all know (or probably not), the TeRiRi's Magical Quest event is a Captainverse event, which means that this event is part of an ongoing story told through these CapVerse events [3/22] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was later confirmed in Version 6.8's Before the Endless Dream event, that the Seele from Version 5.0's Estival Seaside Amusement Park event is indeed connected to Vollerei. Coincidence? I think not. [4/22] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let’s look back at the Dance of Life and Death arc, more specifically CH39-7 When talking about the possibility of making a herrscher through Sa’s system, “Seele” immediately excluded Seele as one of the possible candidates [11/22] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Of course we know that she’s very overprotective of her, but with the vision she got back at CH38-14, she became even MORE desperate to keep her safe Even going to great lengths such as ‘hurting’ Seele just to save her, also telling her that she should forget about her [12/22] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the end, she chose to go alone, leaving Seele inside a ‘bubble’s space. She doesn’t care if she gets hurt, if she would be alone, if she would get killed As long as Seele’s safe, she’ll do anything. I wish the final Evangelion movie had been satisfying, but it wasn't. Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 should have made me feel great; it was the ending of new Evangelion movies, a conclusion to an epic retelling. And yet, beyond the initial adrenaline, it fell flat for me.

The rebuild series was ultimately disappointing and lacklustre beyond having great action scenes. The more I think about the films (especially the last two), the more I think of small ways they could have easily been improved. Removing the pandering sexualization of girls and women, adding context for scenes, and proper backstories would have gone a long way. I missed the psychological elements that endeared me to the original Neon Genesis Evangelion and the characterization of women as flawed and capable people. The Angels and Evas felt more like they sprinkled in flavour in the Rebuilds, and Seele and Yui could have easily been omitted altogether. Yui could have been replaced with almost anything; she was stripped down to "my wife is dead." Rei and Asuka were hollow echoes of their former selves; their identities were reduced to love interests there to help Shinji advance and not much else. Maybe the point was to reduce the female characters of Evangelion to plastic replicas without personality and life to induce self-awareness in the fanbase, but if that was the case pandering to the fans with overtly sexualized merchandise and queerbaiting muddle the messaging.

Evangelion is and always will be a messy series of contradictions. But the flaws of the rebuilds and the absence of the" we need to improve and work with the world we have" messaging of NGE stood out for me. The biggest disappointment was the ending. It was very "and everything is fine now" without a proper resolution. It was too tidy and a magical fix. It played into the idea in Neon Genesis Evangelion that "getting rid of the Evangelion is just another form of running away."

The End of Evangelion was about hope, everything seemed lost and done, and yet humans still existed and had the potential to return and try again if they so chose. Rebuild if Evangelion was more of a "so if we just magically get rid of the problem, everything is fine," which was ultimately disappointing.

I mean, just looking at a few scenes, I feel moved; it feels natural to me. Hurt and pain, disappointment and failure, battered and broken, and yet... There is hope to try again. We still have epic battles, but we also get characterization and can connect strongly with the characters. The End of Evangelion was not afraid to get intense, to go over the line (sometimes to a detriment), but it wasn't afraid to show us the lowest of the low before explaining we could always choose to come back. Never forget “Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy. As long as the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth exist, everything will be all right.”

Ultimately, we are all looking for connection, even at the risk of rejection.

It's that time! I try fitting more of the holy quintet into honkai star rail till either a crossover comes out officially or I've gone insane enough to start drawing it

Today I've decided who of the holy quintet would get along with Honkai star rail characters.

( spoilers for madoka magica )

OKAY so I'm starting first with Sayaka because she's gonna be the easiest.

I think she would get along with argenti, and yinging primarily because the fact argenti is a knight she has knight theming in her magical girl outfit, and Yinging because of their chaotic energy.

Not to mention, I feel like argenti would be kinda like a father figure to her, or at least a supportive figure in her life, giving romance advice and confidence to the girl.

Also because ( fun fact, Sayaka always becomes a witch if she's a magical girl in that timeline ) the pure tragedy for argenti and yinging seeing her turn or as a witch, or wondering why she stopped showing up. Not to even mention the possibility of having to kill her witch form is the angst I fucking love.

Mami is next, and I feel like she would get along with himeko, natasha, Primairly because of her love of tea and caring nature. and babysit sometimes for Clara and Hook because of her relationship with Bebe in the rebellion.

I don't have any angst for Mami because I can't think of any ( if you have any ideas, tell me ) but I think she's one of the few that can drink himeko's coffee.

Madoka I think, would be friends with sushang, HuoHuo, and Asta, and there's no illogical reason this time. I just think they would get along.

But I do think once she became a God and all memories of her were erased, I do think HuoHuo would always feel a pleasant feeling of someone nearby at times, even if she's alone, like someone is watching over her..

Homura, well I don't think she really cares for any honkai star rail characters, but at times would hang out with the stelleron hunters, primarily because of elio's scripts, and because she finds witches easier.

But she does have a soft spot for March 7th because of how She reminds her of madoka. Even at times wondering if it was possible that she was another version of madoka from a different timeline.

Finally kyoko! She was the hardest because I could not for the life of me figure out who she liked, but I decided she would probably admires seele and hang out with quinque and Natasha. Due to the fact she's seen playing games during certain scenes, and I don't have one for seele but it's her ideals and strength.

I have no idea for angst, but maybe for a period of time, she hanged around Natasha's orphanage due to the fact she didn't have anywhere else to go at the time. So she's gotten familiar with her and the depleting resources.

And that is it! I hope I was somewhat accurate to the characters and lore, and if you have any ideas I'd love to hear them!

DHIP | The feast and day 3!

"Well well well, the Cornucopia's back up. Let's see what the contestants will do now~"

"Kaboom? Yes, guys-- KABOOM~! Cygnus' chief Blaze Wizard Oz just denotated an explosion that took out Seele! Rest in peace gurl, hopefully you'll see Bronya soon-- or the other you!"

"That definitely isn't something that would make anyone happy-- no wonder her icon is looking so sad..."

"A magical dragon girl teaming up with Goku to defeat them? No wonder they'll win so easy!"

"Another team up! This time the boys are with the gurls teaming up to get their stuff. This is starting to become rather interesting!"

"And then there's the party pooper."

DAY 3

"...Why do I get the feeling that Aqua doesn't have much time left?"

"Speaking of water-- Goku's looking for a water source...? Unlucky rubber ducky?"

"Ah yes, a pit...Everyone's worst enemy...With everything that has happened I'm surprised she manages to last this long... Let's see what else is happening."

"If this had been the skyrim edition I'd say he took an arrow to the knee...Wait how did Hanaka get a bow-- or wait, it's from that feast wasn't it?"

"Oz the merciful Blaze Wizard...God I really want to call her Blaze Mage, it rolls off the tongue so well!"

"And thus we're down to our last seven contestants."

ANYWAY now that ive gotten my firefly rant off my chest and on a more positive note about the story overall; i Really liked it!!!! and character-wise specifically the biggest surprise for me in a huge W way was actually acheron??

& given i was actually somewhat committed to pulling her anyway (well. initially as kafka replacement to pull my first lightning carry after losing 50-50 but. Well. she had mercy on me at the v last moment thank goodness 😭😭) so actually ending up liking her character this much just cemented that resolve for good too. cant wait for her!!! like i am still meh on her base design not bc its that bad by itself but simply bc seeles existence just cheapens it so much like. Why are they so similar. but its not bad lmao

anyway to her actual characterization. first of all. the VAs delivery omg yall beidous english voice is already one of my all time favorites in genshin and shes doing an amazing job as acheron like. she started talking and im just INSTANTLY warmed up to her just from that KDJSKDKJK i love love love her attitude and energy!!!!!

n personality wise too??? like ive seen others mention a similar sentiment but its just the way how. even after getting the warnings from now Two separate characters that shes up to no good. im just like. "nah id win" abt it SHSKDKSI like throughout the story she comes off as so damn likeable and grounded and realistically friendly (as in not like. too open n aligned w the player from the get-go to feel believable for the character as opposed to a plot contrivance) that i just. even if shes bad news im team acheron truly.

she has genuinely funny one liners too ??? like not necessarily jokes outright but the kinda comments she says are just . very realistic in that dry witty way that comes off as natural and entertaining shes so charming!!! i love her. the more contemplative stuff she says too

but also like. girl whats up w the ominous red text ily but are we cool 😭😭 and the whole shredding us into thin slices on first encounter in the dreamscape like. Ok uhhhhhhhh ik i said nah id win and team acheron forever but this is kinda. worrisome

BUT that just means im so fucking excited to see her go apeshit too lmao like. oh shes an emanator here to do murder and spread death? COOL i hope she has fun!!

(and ik i said firefly rant over but. what the actual hell is that post firefly merk dialogue option where the games like very heavy handedly implying ur supposed to be blaming ACHERON for "letting it happen" in some emotional frenzy???? bro what 💀💀 0/5 moment i would never. n even if she plausibly did im just. dude her being cold towards firefly is just a plus for me when the narrative has just railroaded the TB into being sooo charmed by her magical presence lmao i Liked that acheron was suspicious n cold)

overall Definitely wasnt expecting acheron to establish herself as such an instant favorite for sure but. shes here now and im v happy abt it im super looking forward to seeing those more dubious goals of her come to the forefront in the future like. im so curious about whats up w her and her memory and that red text and everything

One More Moondance - Honkai Star Rail fanfic✨

summary: Bronya decides to throw a party in Belobog's old ballroom, so she teaches Seele to waltz (or at least tries to).

warning: Again, it's set after the Express crew leave Belobog, so there's spoilers for the Jarilo-VI storyline

Bronya's heart still ached a little when she thought of Cocolia.

It was to be expected, really. Considering Cocolia was the person Bronya fully believed to be her birth mother for most of her life, the hole she left was palpable. It pained her to watch the dull shadows of her memory run wild around Qilpoth Fort. To tell the truth, they never stopped pushing themselves to the front of her mind. During meetings, she would swear she saw her mother sitting at the other end of the table for a moment. When she focused on paperwork, there was her mother approaching her. But it never was. It was just the guilt coming back to haunt her.

This pattern was no different when she entered Belobog's signature ballroom for the first time since... the incident. It hadn't been used in a long time, and she wasn't entirely sure if the room had even been cleaned. Sunlight streamed through the grand windows that were lining the wall in front of her, illuminating the hard floor like a magic spell, and again the memories flooded back to her, as clear as if they were playing out right that second. This was where Cocolia taught her to waltz. Her hands holding Bronya's hand and waist. Her voice calmly talking through the steps. Her feet demonstrating where Bronya should put hers. A few months ago, this was a good memory. Now it was sour and almost too painful to dwell on.

The Supreme Guardian almost had to shake her head to physically dislodge her thoughts. She had to repurpose this room. It was beautiful, after all, and going to waste. Bronya's memory shouldn't diminish the place's importance for anyone else.

As she wandered further in, she started to picture what holding another party in here would look like. Belobog citizens dressed in their finery, eating specially-cooked delicacies and listening to joyful music. Perhaps it could be an attempt to unite the people from the Overworld and the Underworld.

Seele would like that idea.

The thought of Seele made the sudden image of her appear in the centre of the room. In Bronya's fantasy, she was slow dancing with her, and the shock at her own imagination made her cheeks glow scarlet. She didn't consciously choose to imagine this- But the heart wants what the heart wants.

No, what was she thinking? She couldn't be fantasising about someone that way. She never had in the past. It was... distracting, it was useless, and most of all it was unbecoming of the young Supreme Guardian.

But, even after telling herself all of this, she couldn't deny the way the thought of the other girl lit up the room even more. It warmed those dark, shadowy corners where dark remnants of her mother lay.

That's what gave Bronya the idea.

Maybe if she could physically get Seele in here, if she could somehow replace the memory with a stronger, positive one, then she wouldn't be so afraid to step into this room. She would teach Seele to dance the way Cocolia taught her all those years ago. Who knew, maybe Seele would enjoy it?

Bronya's fantasy could be real. Even if she told herself it didn't mean anything.

"So, what's this thing you wanted to show me?" Seele was there a few hours later, curiously following Bronya down the corridors of the Fort.

"It's a surprise. But I promise you, it will be worth it." Bronya replied, not slowing down for a second.

Just as she'd theorised, just being here with Seele made these almost empty corridors a little less scary. The purple-haired girl's presence was big enough to silence the memories rushing through Bronya's mind for even just a moment. And it was certainly a welcome relief. It made Bronya want to reach over and grab Seele's hand for support. She didn't, of course. She just carried on walking.

"Hey, I don't think I've actually been round back here yet." Seele commented as they approached the grand doorways to the ballroom.

"I haven't had much chance recently. But, I looked this morning, and remembered we had this room at our disposal."

With this, Bronya reached forward and pushed the double doors open a little eccentrically to add to the effect.

"Oh shit Bronya, this place is amazing! What was it used for?" She exclaimed, raising her eyebrows as she looked the room over, taking in the view from outside and the decorated walls.

"There was a time we would throw the most lavish parties here." Bronya explained, walking forward as she spoke. "But we haven't had the chance in years."

"And... you're showing me this because... you wanna throw another party here?" Seele suggested casually, secretly hoping she'd guessed correctly.

Her plan worked, because the other girl looked taken aback.

"Yes, actually. I thought that it might be a good idea to hold an event here to encourage people from the Underworld and Overworld to become better acquainted."

Something in Seele's expression changed; the perfect blend of surprised and absolutely delighted. It made Bronya's heart soar.

"Shit Bron, that's a surprisingly good idea coming from someone who didn't care about the Underworld yesterday." Despite her happiness, she didn't hold back when it came to teasing the Guardian a little.

"I didn't- I never- That's not true, Seele-"

"Hey, hey, I know." She came to stand in front of Bronya, smiling reassuringly.

"It's a great idea. I'm all for it, if you wanted my permission or anything."

"I'm just happy to have it." The silence that followed that was surprisingly charged, with the two just standing in front of the windows... looking at each other.

"Hey, um, as I was going to be throwing the party, I was thinking..." Bronya started, avoiding eye contact. This was not something she did often. "Did you want me to teach you how to ballroom dance?"

Seele probably would've made fun of Bronya for her sudden shy demeanour, had she not immediately mirrored it. Admittedly, the question caught her extremely off guard. She didn't know much about ballroom dancing, mainly that it involved a couple sort of hugging each other and spinning about. And probably looking into each others' eyes.

Could she handle doing that with Bronya?

She realised with a start that she hadn't answered the question yet, fumbling for her reply,

"Uh, yeah sure. I don't... I don't mind. What's- Will it be easy to learn?" She internally congratulated herself for rediscovering words.

"It won't be too difficult. It just takes a little practice." Bronya explained, before holding out a hand. "May I?"

The question hung in the air between them like the moon in the sky. Undeniable and beautiful.

"Sure."

Seele took her hand and mustered a smile, ignoring the way her heart started working overtime.

Bronya gently moved their clasped hands to one side, then reached over and put her free hand on Seele's shoulder.

"Put your other hand on my waist." She said, trying not to overthink the words.

"Put my hand where? Why?"

"It's important." Seele sighed, covering her embarrassment with mock frustration.

"Okay, fine." She did so. It was an oddly comforting gesture.

"Okay, now pay attention to where my feet go." Bronya instructed, her voice all business. She wasn't prepared for a second to give away what was running through her head.

Seele just nodded and did what she asked, looking down and watching as Bronya stepped to the left and then put her feet together again.

"Copy me, okay?"

Seele stepped to the left with her, staying silent to focus on copying Bronya's position.

"And then I'm going to step forward, and you have to put your left foot back, okay?"

"Um, okay-" Seele mumbled back, fumbling a little when Bronya's foot came forward but managing to get her own leg out of the way as the other girl had instructed.

"There we go, that's great." Bronya looked up and smiled, and Seele had to fight to stop herself blushing. An immense feeling of pride bloomed in her stomach.

"And now, it's a similar movement with the right foot. Move it to the right with me, okay?" Seele nodded absentmindedly, too concentrated to give a proper answer. When Bronya moved her leg this time, Seele tried to move in sync with her, vaguely managing it.

Bronya appreciated how much she was trying.

"That's it, you'll get the hang of it in no time Seele, trust me. Now, try to move your right foot forward with me so we end up in the same position we started. Like a box, see?"

"Uh, yeah, got it-" The other girl mumbled. Bronya stepped back slowly. Seele moved forward with her, immediately going too fast and stepping on Bronya's foot. The both of them flinched.

"Shit, sorry- Er, this isn't even difficult, I'll get the hang of it-" Seele was already getting frustrated about not getting it right.

"No, it's fine, that happens. Those are the four basic steps, so there's not much else to learn."

"Oh, really?" The grin returned to Seele's face. "This'll be easy to master, then."

Bronya chuckled. "I'm sure it will be. We can try one more time, then I'll put music on."

"Bring it on."

Despite her confidence, Seele was far from perfect. The step order confused her, and she moved her left foot when she should've moved her right or vise versa many times before even remotely getting the hang of it. Once Bronya went and played some classical music for them, it only got worse, with her trying to keep up with the tempo but the slightly demanding speed challenging her.

"This is too difficult!" Seele practically growled after about ten minutes of practice. In a fit of frustration, she let go of Bronya's hand and waist and stepped back.

"I don't think I can do this, Bron. I'm just... not really cut out for this kind of elegant shit."

"Ah, um, that's okay. You don't have to learn, it's fine. No one will expect you to know."

"Yeah... sorry, Bronya." She folded her arms, guilty expression washing over her face.

"It's alright." Bronya smiled, even if disappointment tugged at her a little. "You'll still come to the ball though, won't you?"

"Yeah, course. I'd love to."

They both nodded at each other, standing a little stiffly. Bronya biting back disappointment. Guilt weighing on Seele's shoulders. It hadn't gone exactly as either of them expected.

After Seele left very shortly after, the failed dance steps didn't leave her mind. She found herself trying to practice them while she did other things. She hummed the music quietly to herself and slid her feet forwards in the correct order. Or tried to, anyway. She couldn't help but feel like she'd let Bronya down by giving up so quickly. She looked so hopeful when she asked her if she wanted to learn.

Maybe Seele should try harder.

But she couldn't ask Bronya for help, not after she'd given up earlier. Because if she gave up again it would just worsen her disappointment. Who else would be able to help me with something like this? Not many of the people she knew, that was for sure. Hook had better things to learn. Sampo would just piss her off. The only person remotely graceful enough for a dance like that was...

"Natasha?" Seele called, knocking on the pharmacy door a while later.

Natasha had managed to relocate her small hospital to the city, and was a lot better off for it. She could help more people at a time, and was even considering hiring people to help her out. Seele said she would, but she'd just been so busy recently that she hadn't had much time to do so.

"Seele?" Natasha opened the door with her signature warm smile, pulling her gloves off and setting them down on a nearby table, "It's nice to see you. Anything you needed?"

"Um, yeah, actually. I need... some help with something."

The woman just waited for her to continue.

"Do you know how to ballroom dance? Like- Waltzing with a partner and all of that?"

Natasha laughed when the question was asked. Actually laughed.

"Yes, I can. But I haven't tried in a long time now. And I certainly wasn't expecting you of all people to be asking me."

Seele crossed her arms, a little annoyed at this response, "Yeah well, here I am. I need some help about the whole thing. Bronya, um... she tried to teach me how earlier. And I was shit."

"Maybe I should've taught you when you were younger."

"Are you kidding? I would've had none of it."

The two of them laughed together this time. "I can try to help you. It would be a nice break from my work today."

Natasha moved a few chairs and put some music on, just as Bronya had done.

"Okay, how much do you know?" She asked, holding her hands out.

Seele thought back to her lesson with Bronya, taking Natasha's hand and putting her hand on her waist. It felt a lot more natural and less awkward than it did at first with Bronya.

Natasha smiled kindly.

"Very good! Now, did you also learn the box method?"

"Yeah, think so. It's... like this, right?"

Seele tried to recreate what she'd done earlier. Left foot left. Back. Right foot right. Forwards. Natasha moved with her, accomodating Seele's slight slipups or pauses with ease.

"You're almost there, Seele! It's a good thing you came to me for help, it would be a waste for you to give up now."

"Yeah... yeah, you're right."

"You need to keep in time and just remember; left left, right right. Stepping in time with your partner makes it a lot easier for both of you. Should we try while I count?"

Seele nodded, going over the steps in her head.

"Okay, here we go." Natasha started to move, gently without doing her steps too large to help Seele.

"One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four..." She counted, able to get Seele to pick up her rhythm again when she almost stepped on Natasha's foot.

"See? You're getting the hang of it even more!"

Practicing with Natasha definitely managed to take some of the pressure off Seele's shoulders. She had loved practicing with Bronya, but the pressure to get it right to impress her had been what got in her way. Which was... disappointing, to say the least. She really hoped the streak of trying too hard to impress her didn't continue. It wasn't helping anyone.

With Natasha, there was no need to prove herself. She just took it slowly, eventually getting a hang of the rhythm, and ingraining the steps into her mind. After a few songs, she had almost perfected it.

The first time she got it right, she was overjoyed.

"Nat, Nat! Hey, I did it! I actually managed it, wow. You're a pretty damn good teacher."

"Am I? Most of that was just you practicing. I'm sure Bronya is the one you should be thanking." Natasha deflected the thanks, humble as ever.

"Maybe so, but you've still been a massive help. Thanks!"

"No problem, Seele." Suddenly, the purple-haired girl wasn't the only one flushed with pride.

They continued until Seele had almost perfected it. Which was about when she decided she was sick of practicing and was ready to show Bronya right that second.

Natasha sent her off with a wave.

"See you later, Seele! Let me know how it goes with Bronya."

She was wearing a knowing smile when she said the second sentence that Seele didn't entirely understand. But, ignoring it, she just waved back, thanking Natasha a final time.

Now to find her dance partner.

"Bronya!" She called, bursting into one of Qilpoth Fort's rooms and, as per usual, not knocking beforehand.

"Oh, Seele-! You started me." The other girl replied, sitting at a desk in the back of a room. She had been alone in there until then.

"Bron, I have something to show you, you need to come with me to the ballroom again."

"Seele, I'm a little busy, I don't have the time to teach you to waltz again-"

"No, just- Just trust me, okay? You won't need to. Please follow me?"

Seele gave her a pleading look and they both just gazed at the other for a moment.

Bronya sighed, knowing she couldn't refuse.

"Okay. Okay, that's fine."

"Yesss, okay, you won't regret it."

Bronya followed Seele down the long corridors of the Fort, predominantly just confused about what the other girl wanted to show her.

"Okay, now stand in the middle of the room again. Er, hang on." Seele jogged to the corner of the room to put on the same piece as they'd tried to dance to earlier.

"I, um-"

She hadn't thought this part through. Time to wing it, she supposed. "May I have this dance?"

Undoubtedly taken aback, Bronya held her hand out like she would at any other ball.

"Of course." She replied after a few beats of confusion.

Seele took a breath and put her hand on Bronya's waist again, getting into the correct position. The Guardian just followed her lead this time.

When Seele started to dance, Bronya was admittedly surprised at the tempo and accuracy she managed. She performed the steps with a lot more elegancy and confidence than she had before, and for a moment, Bronya had no idea what had happened.

"Wow, Seele, you- How did you lea-"

"Shhh." Seele murmured. "I have my ways. Maybe I'm smarter than you thought, huh?"

The other girl had formed a brief inkling about how she might've improved while they were apart, but... she didn't want to ruin the moment.

They moved in sync with each other, their clasped hands sending waves of warmth straight to their hearts. The music kept them close together. Their emotions kept them in time.

"Okay, should we spin a little?" Bronya suggested, keeping her voice at a low volume out of fear of breaking the delicate soap bubble they were encased in, where the rest of the world didn't exist and they had no other problems.

"Go ahead." Seele nodded, their dynamic switching a little as Bronya took back the lead.

It was only them, the music, and the sun streaming through the windows. And just as Bronya had suspected, the magic this room could hold was reborn all over again.
