Love and fucking thunder.
3) korg and Dwayne.
4)giving Zeus an Italian accent.
3) it's not lady Thor!!!!! ITS THE MIGHTY THOR!!!!!
4)JANE FOSTER SPINNING MJOLNIR!!!!
5) VALKYRIE DOING THAT DRAMATIC POSE UNDER A SHOWER OF BLOOD!!!!!!!
6)the damn goats and their incessant screaming
7) that scene? With Valkyrie and Jane with the speakers and the music and the head bopping. Fucking adorable
Edit:
Okay some of you mentioned these in the reblogs i can't believe i forgot about them but.
8) the insanely superpowered army of literal children. The laser eyed teddy bear. That was. Peak cinema. I love this movie :')
9) OH!!!!stormbreaker and mjolnir and their personalities. It's VERY magnus chase and the gods of Asgard.
10) okay and of course, that little hand smooch val gives the Greek lady in omnipotent city
Edit 2:
Thank you to the 20 something people telling me it's a Greek accent. If 20 more do the same in the comments I might consider continuing to do absolutely nothing about it.

The conventional description of the Nine Realms. Each is a different branch of Yggdrasil, separate from the others.
Watching the newest Overly Sarcastic Production video on the mythological Nine Realms (here) has motivated me to return to writing a proper myth stuff entry. This is going to be on a single topic and a widespread misconception.
We in the modern world have a bit of a handicap when it comes to understanding the old world. The culmination of science and historical knowledge makes it difficult to understand people who don’t have that same basis of information informing their own beliefs. The most important widely known fact for our purposes here is astronomical. When most people today hear the word ‘world’, the next mental connection is often ‘planet’. We know we live on a planet which itself is one of many in a great celestial system of stars. This is the reason why there’s such a mental disconnect between us and the concept of the mythological ‘realm’.
This cosmological bias is evident in adaptations of Norse mythology: in Marvel the Nine Realms are different planets and in both God of War and Magnus Chase the Nine Realms are different dimensions. The other eight are connected to our own planet or dimension. It goes without saying that the medieval Norse and their ancestors did not know what planets or dimensions were. If they couldn’t understand the Nine Realms as dimensions or planets, what did they imagine them as?
Let’s look at the language. ‘Realm’ is but one translation for the word ‘heimr’. When we say Nine Realms in English, the Norse said Niu Heimar (heimar being the plural of heimr). The same word is used as a suffix for most of the commonly listed ‘realms’: Vanaheimr, Alfheimr, Niflheimr, etc. This word was not exclusive to mythology, however. One of Norway’s largest cities, Trondheim, bears this as well. “The Realm of Trond” doesn’t quite ring though. The more direct translation is “the home of the Trønd”, which makes more sense when you know that the trønder (þrǿndr in Old Norse) were a people who founded the city which bore their name. Applying this to the mythological names we get ‘home of the Vanir’, ‘home of the Elves/Alfar’, and ‘home of Mist’. When you read it outloud and abandon the astronomical point of view for a medieval geographic one, these names read less like planets and dimensions and more like countries or territories.
Tumblr media
A rough attempt at combining the disparate geographic elements in the Eddas into a single plane. Jormungandr not included. Although, his presence makes one wonder if the Norse had an idea like the Greek Oceanus, where the mortal world was surrounded completely by a continuous river.
In this context, the confusing geography of the mythological heimar makes (a little) more sense. The Norse understood the mythological races not as living in a magical otherworld, but as living in far-off lands and territories. Jotunheimr’s frequent pluralization makes more sense in this regard: the jotnar are not a monolith, so of course there are multiple territories controlled by different populations of giants. The multiple ‘realms’ of the gods in Asgard are recontextualized as separate counties or neighborhoods controlled by the head gods. The Old Norse, after all, were a feudal society where farmers controlled large plots of land. The second suffix found in the mythological realms adds to this: ‘gardr’ means a fence or wall, which is what farmers would encircle their land with to demarcate boundaries.
The surprising amount of physical geography that pops up also makes more sense. Skirnir, the vassal of Freyr (note the medieval feudal term), must pass “wet mountains” to reach Gerth in Gymir’s abode. Griminsmal mentions many, many rivers that cross the lands of the gods
It isn’t all peachy-keen. The names we like to focus on so much are still poetic inventions. It’s doubtful that the skalds and priests who recited and/or believed in them put as much thought as anyone today into their mechanics. There are also still supernatural elements surrounding them, as can be found in other myths and legends: the home of the dead cannot just be crossed like any old border, and all the Jotunheimar are East of Asgardr and Midgardr regardless of position. Hel itself is a conundrum as it is said to be both beneath the earth and accessible by crossing the earth. The primordial Niflheimr and Muspelheimr are said to be north and south respectively, but that’s it.
Still, the idea of these mythological polities as planets or dimensions continually hinders modern understanding and writing concerning them. Looking at things from the medieval point of view rather than the modern one can shake up the preconceptions we continually apply to these fantastical lands.

2020 Weekly Ficlet 44/52(? We’ll see?)
Blood and Bones (And Chocolate)
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard Halloween Ficlet.
---------------
To be honest, Magnus almost didn’t notice the decorations, at first. Hotel Valhalla had its own…unique…aesthetic, after all, and with all the torches, weapons, ravens, and wolves about, a little extra ‘spooky black and orange (with bonus bones and blood)’ didn’t immediately jump out at him.
It was the witch’s hat on a stuffed bear’s head in one of the dinging lounges that finally made things click.
“What’s the Norse afterlife doing with all the Halloween décor?” he asked the room in general.
Halfborn was only too happy to answer, taking on his ‘wise and knowing instructor’ tone. “Magnus, the various festivals and holy days that would eventually become what you know as Halloween are as ancient as they were widespread. And don’t forget, these halls are not limited to those who followed, venerated, or were descended from the Norse gods. Many of the fallen lived their lives steeped in traditions and cultures of their home—why should they not keep celebrating them? Sharing them? You’ll find nearly any holiday and celebration you can think of here—and quite a few you’ve never heard of before!”
Alex gave him a long, level look. “In other words, any excuse for drunken revelry is a good one?”
“You got it!” Halfborn roared, laughing. (He always sounded more like himself that way—‘Professor Gunderson’ had never stopped sounding wrong to Magnus’ ears, PHD or no.)
TJ finally spoke up, leaning back in his chair. “There’s the Costume Battle, too—that’s pretty fun. Never was a fan of the halls that did group or themed costumes, though. I personally prefer the individual creative approach.”
“I prefer Trick or Treat to the Death,” Mallory offered, fiddling with her ever-present knives, “Half the halls get assigned to ‘host’, the other half walk. Trick or Treaters fight the Hosts, and the survivors get the loser’s candy stash. And, of course, you can always ambush each other to get their shares, too. Last one standing pretty much gets it all.”
“Alliances made and broken faster than at an all-girl middle school,” Samirah muttered, half-grinning, “and twice as entertaining, I’m sure. I’m looking forward to the stories of your glorious triumphs…and bloody deaths.”
“Hey, you didn’t have to aim that last part at me!”
Sam feigned indifference, but she was smirking. “I don’t know what you mean, Magnus.”
“Yeah, not everything’s about you,” Alex cut in to continue the teasing.
As the five dead (and one living) teens all made fun of each other (well, Magnus), sitting in the impossible hotel that housed thousands upon thousands of the dead elite warriors of the gods, as the conversation drifted into a discussion of who planned to dress as what and how they panned to do so, it almost felt like something so everyday, so valuable in its taste of normalcy…
…until the discussion turned to the practical concerns of in-costume mobility and the ability to conceal (or not) weapons. This was Hotel Valhalla, after all.

Post-GoT Book Recs: Urban/”Realistic” Fantasy, Fantasy in the real world
1) The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden: The Winternight trilogy is so good! I’m not familiar with Russian history or stories so I can’t judge that part of it but gosh Vasya is a BAMF! That’s who I wanna be when I grow up. Oh and yeah I cried over the end of the series, not the first book the third one. Horse girls, fighting theocracy and gender norms.
2) My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows: HILARIOUS! Love historical revisionism and the way the narrator literally goes “Yeah we don’t care about this truth thing”.
3) The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler: Remember this series from middle school? Yeah it’s still good and there’s more books now.
4) Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley: What if dragons existed in the real world? A kind of depressing look at things but honest about human nature. Father of dragons gets bed sores.
5) Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan: Magnus is such a Soft Boy TM. I love him!

Ya'll
Y'know sometimes i think about a pjo movie reboot thats actually done right but then i think its too late for that
but how about a trials of apollo movie series???
or magnus chase and the gods of asgard???
Those are the most recent stuff and i know our hopes of a rick riordan book turning in to a nice movie is crushed but bear with and maybe it can be like the mcu where one story leads to another and every story mentions another (for ex: in iron man 2 agent coulsen says that nick fury needs him new Mexico a.k.a where the story of thor 1 was in) the trials of apollo or magnus chase dont really need pjo knowledge that much i mean yeah it would explain alot when yo read pjo first but you get what i mean and maybe in toa there's flashs of what happened to apollo and what he did in boo and then percy apearing in both toa and mcga i just desperately want a good movie (and hello rick riordan doing cameos like how stan lee does in the mcu??)
(p.s im pretty sure there's a text post about pjo being made into a movie franchise like mcu so its not really my idea)
