If Spider-Gwen is the Gwen Who Lived, Does That Mean Somewhere There Is An MJ Who Isn't Loved?

I was thinking about love and fate and Spiderverse and had an interesting idea. Gwen's life across the multiverse (with the exception of Spider-Gwen) is defined by her canon event where she falls in love with Spiderman and dies. Our Gwen is the only exception to this (as far as I know).

MJ (Mary Jane, Michelle Jones, doesn't matter) is defined by being Spiderman's endgame true love. That is her life defining canon event. Her and Peter's wedding is even shown in the web of canon events that Miguel shows Miles. So her being Spiderman's endgame love is definitely a big canon event and should be pretty damn consistent across the Spiderverse.

But Gwen dying is pretty consistent across the Spiderverse too. As far as we know, she's the only Gwen who lived. So does that mean, in every universe, Spiderman loves MJ, except for one. There's one universe where he doesn't love her. One MJ who isn't loved.

Imagine being that MJ. Imagine being so desperately in love with someone who is your soulmate in every world but yours. Every other universe, Spiderman loves you back. Except yours. Except you.

Here's your reminder that straight up trashing on lily evans because you prefer james in a mlm relationship is Not Okay and deeply rooted in misogynity. She is a fictional character whose only action was to protect her son with her life. She did nothing wrong; she just saved her son by loving him. That's literally it. That's all we know about her. That and the description made by remus later in the books: a loving and kind woman. Now if you don't like her character, that's fine, I don't care. I don't necessarily agree with you but I won't come at you either. But don't you dare shit on her just bc she's a woman getting 'in the way' or your favorite mlm ship because that's fucked up on so many levels. And don't get mad at people calling out your behavior, because it is misogynistic.

I think many people in the fandom aren't ready for this conversation, but it has to be said: This fandom is deeply, deeply misogynistic. It has a problem with female characters, not matter the era we're talking about. They are ignored, underestimated, left out in favour of male characters. It's not a mistake or an oversight: it's decision, a choice made by writers and artists to not focus on the girls.

Like, do you know how hard it is to find a fanfiction where a woman is the main character? And it's even worse if she's in a wlw relationship. I don't think i've ever read a 'marylily raising harry' fic, when we have dozens of fics where harry is raised by wolfstar or jegulus. No hate against those, they're great, but come on. Don't tell me you don't see a pattern here. It's the same as everywhere else: people just don't care about the girls. It's exhausting. It's fucking exhausting and I'm sick of seeing the same bullshit over and over again. Like. I am a queer teenage girl. I would like, too, to see myself represented by and in a fandom constituted (mostly) of queer individuals, just like me.

But no. It's like the world is not aware of the existence of lesbians. They exist! They are very much a real thing and would like fics where they are represented, for fuck's sake. The worst part is that I'm not even surprised; angry, yes, and disappointed, but bot surprised. It happens every time.

anyways can we take a moment and just appreciate how Good this interview was? speaking from a journalism student's point of view this was amazing to watch. jon was amazing, it’s great to see he has a domain of the subject and asked respectful questions viewing tobias work and actually invested with deep stuff and not the same ol’ questions we always hear people ask.

tho i’m super suspicious to talk about this as a journalism student, it’s RARE to see artists be treated like human beings during interviews let alone have good questions to be thrown at them.

i’m a firm believer that the best interviews are from people who somehow have a minimal to big knowledge about the person they’re about to spend at least an hour talking to. you’re a complete stranger, you must make that moment not feel uncomfortable both for the person and for the people watching. it was light, and fun and the questions were creative even if repetitive from all those years on the road. it’s inevitable not to ask the basics™

you could hear jons passion and the way he was truly engaged in it. i think we should see more interviews like that, we - as in people who study journalism, etc - should look up for that. even if you don’t know the person and never heard of them, do some research and try to find aspects to talk about. try to be sensitive and to be the best ever, because by making the person comfortable you get always the best answers and the best of them. it’s a natural state for us to simply spill out words when comfortable

i’ve seen many many tobias interviews as the years were passing by after the reveal and they were mostly horrible. they were treating him like a zoo animal. that’s not the goal

so to finish up my nerd journalist moment, it was truly amazing to watch that. love it. 10/10

I noticed that you were able to get the StoryMe game up and running! How do I?

I tried downloading StoryMe, but it'll simply show the menu of it ("Welcome, we can't wait to start your first story!"), but I'm not able to get past it. I tap the screen, or wait, but nothing changes

I know you're not a bug-fixer or anything, but did you have these issues? Am I not pressing in the correct place? I'm really hungry for some Mary and Maria love right now, since the switch game only has the normal route to serve my girl-aching heart

Hi! Unfortunately, I downloaded the story me app more than one year ago and uninstalled it like two months after that and I don't recall doing anything special in order to make it work.

I downloaded it again to see if it let me play and so far it doesn't (on a newer device so i don't think it's bc of obsolescence).

I think they pulled the plug on the app back in December 2023. Searched for it and while there's no official source for that that i've seen, or almost anybody talking about it (which tracks if they shut it down for lack of interest) i did see someone mention it.

If it helps, the game was really canon compliant and took place in season 1 of the anime so it probably doesn't have the romance you'd hoped for. Not much new content, just details and little scenes that, while nice, I wouldn't call great quality love (either platonic or romantic), the writing wasn't bad but not "woah!" either. The tone Catarina adopted was the same as always: glad to have you as my friends.

Does anyone else have more info?
