do u have any horror recs for other mediums? tv, podcasts, books, youtube shorts, etc
I'm really gonna show my ass in this regard because most of my recommendations are going to be TV shows or short stories because I haven't branched out much beyond that if I'm honest.
I love The Haunting of Hill House (Nell Crain is my favourite horror character full stop) and The Fall of the House of Usher from Mike Flanagan (most of his shows are incredible but these two are my favourite).
THOHH: Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.
TFOTHOU: To secure their fortune (and future) two ruthless siblings build a family dynasty that begins to crumble when their heirs mysteriously die, one by one.
The Exorcist (2016) was great!
The Exorcist follows two very different priests tackling one family's case of horrifying demonic possession. Father Tomas Ortega is the new face of the Catholic Church: progressive, ambitious and compassionate. He runs a small, but loyal, parish in the suburbs of Chicago. Father Marcus Keane is an orphan raised since childhood by the Vatican to wage war against its enemies. He is everything Father Tomas is not: relentless, abrasive and utterly consumed by his mission.
I really liked American Horror Story: Asylum, can't say the same for the other seasons.
AHS: Asylum takes place in 1964 and follows the stories of the staff and inmates who occupy the fictional mental institution Briarcliff Manor, and intercuts with events in the past and present.
I also liked a few South Korean shows I saw on Netflix.
Kingdom (2019): While strange rumors about their ill King grip a kingdom, the crown prince becomes their only hope against a mysterious plague overtaking the land.
All of Us Are Dead (2022): A high school becomes ground zero for a zombie virus outbreak. Trapped students must fight their way out or turn into one of the rabid infected.
Hellbound (2021): People hear predictions on when they will die. When that time comes, a death angel appears in front of them and kills them.
I loved Interview with a Vampire (especially because it does everything the movie didn't, which is why I didn't like the movie). it's very gay, it plays heavily into the themes of vampirism and sexuality, and I love Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson as Lestat and Louis.
In terms of other media, I really like the Dead Meat channel (if I haven't said it enough already), I also like the Scream Dreams Podcast with Catherine Corcoran (from Terrifier), James A. Janisse (from Dead Meat) and Barbara Crampton (prolific and stunning horror actor).
I know it's a little over done now, but that original series of 'The Backrooms' by KanePixels was great.
Some other horror channels/channels that explore horror as well as other topics are SpookyRice, MistaGG, Wendigoon, ElvisTheAlien, BionicPIG, Trin Lovell, KennieJD, MertKayKay, and AmandaTheJedi.
With books, I'm such a basic bitch, so I've really only read Stephen King's horror books. I'm not sure of this is horror or just very bleak and depressing but I'm Thinking of Ending Things was an incredible reading experience. And at this point it goes without saying House of Leaves is so fucking mindblowing!
H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe were terrible people, but their short stories are truly so dark and well-written, the cosmic horror Lovecraft is known translates best in his writing. Ambrose Bierce is the father of psychological horror as we know it, his short stories are great. My favourite short horror story is The Yellow Wallpaper. If you are interested in an audio version of it, listen to Chelsea from the Dead Meat channel with headphones (headphones are vital to that experience).
That's all I can think of off the top of my head for now! I'm sure others will give their own recommendations.

You hit the nail on the head with Proshippers and Lolita. Nobody’s jacking off while reading Lolita. The same cannot be said about their fanfics.
Hard disagree on Flowers in the Attic though. The books are fundamentally about the cycle of abuse. The siblings getting together is not portrayed in a positive light, and leads to the cycle of abuse continuing in their family.
While stories about overcoming abuse are important, it is also important to have stories about failing to overcome abuse.
Absolutely. I think Flowers struggles the more it tries to add more twists and drama, like the grandma coming back over and over. It's a narrative consequence of being a pulp fiction at a time where mental illness and abuse was not quite understood. I just would have preferred if the siblings didn't end up in a romantic relationship as adults. It doesn't make the series devoid of value as a whole.
I really appreciated MertKayKay's analysis of The Suicide of Rachel Foster. It draws comparisons to Lolita in how perpetrators are portrayed based on the narrative framing.
Being anti-proship isn't wanting to eliminate content that covers the taboo. If we did that, societal progress would come to a standstill. Anti-proship is questioning WHY proshippers use free speech absolutism, specifically as an excuse to make harmful forms of pornography.
I'm not going to shame the person making content about what it's like to be with an abusive partner, what it's like to survive incest or pedophilia. I shame those who hide behind the former to inject fetishistic abuse content into that community, whk use it to groom children or traumatized adults. I cannot be like "not all proshippers" when the ideology is made to protect these bad faith actors--like Lily.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you! get to know your mutuals and followers (ू•‧̫•ू⑅)♡
Here we go again! (Like I ever get bored of these).
The deep ocean. I'm so sorry to anyone who is thalassaphobic, but I just think the sea is the most fascinating place on the planet. Look at this phantom jellyfish. Look at the lights on this baby! LOOK AT THIS FLOATING FIREWORK (can you tell I like jellyfish?). Look at this goofy mf looking ass. Need I SAY more.
I'm equally also obsessed with trash animals such as opossums and racoons. If you send me an opossum, you have made my day.
Gothic anything. Specifically more Victorian Era gothic, but I think memento mori are some of the coolest things on the planet. Crimson Peak altered my brain chemistry. I specifically picked Worgen for the pre-industrial/victorian era vibe. I fuck with Ishgardian lore on a day-to-day basis. I! Love! Gothic! Things!
I love a good video essay. If you enjoy watching analysis on horror, please give MertKayKay a look. Not only do I find her topics of exploration fascinating, but the video I linked specifically calls out XIV players watching her stuff while they farm tomes and it gave me a giggle. I think she is highly underrated and deserves more subscribers.
My mum knits. I have a blanket and a poncho that she's lovingly made for me. Whenever I feel lonely or sad, I like to put the poncho on. It feels like a hug.

Hey, about the suicide of Rachel Foster. A youtuber called MertKayKay did a brilliant video essay of her own playthrough of the game and talked in depth about the themes that were handled very very badly. It's an hour long but I'd suggest giving it a watch if you can't pick the game back up or are just curious.
Here's the link: https://youtu.be/2ZhWWcxlJdA
thank you!
I think I had that video in my youtube recommendations at one point, but I decided to play the game before watching the video (like how I watched The Snowman before watching Folding Ideas' video about The Snowman)
but as frustrating as the graphics have been, we'll see what I have energy for xD maybe the video will be a better experience
anyway, followers! it's probably a better idea to watch the video than play the game, if it's something you're curious about! because like autumn-not-fall says, I've heard that the sensitive topics in the game were handled very badly!

i love mertkaykay's videos she does such a good job of analysing how work (usually horror) screws up serious themes in a very constructive way that doesn’t just get mad at them for using those themes (which are completely fine and in fact very important to explore in a sensitive way) but breaks down why they were written in a way that doesn’t work.

hey I have a suggestion for your female gaming YouTubers list: MertKayKay. She has both a YouTube and a twitch channel, in her YouTube she does video essays on games and she does achievement hunting stuff on twitch, she's really cool <3
!! I think I've seen her before, her thumbnails look really familiar but I'm not sure why I didn't add her then. Will check out more of her stuff and add her to the list but I probably won't reblog the list for a bit since I just did. Thanks!

introducing u to my fav commentary youtubers and why they are worth 100% of ur time:
Tumblr media
MertKayKay: OMG MY ABSOLUTE FAV. she analyzes video games, she's very funny and quickwitted, and there's never a dull moment when you're watching her :) i enjoy the way she picks apart games that she loves, and also ones she dislikes (she always remains respectful whilst giving insight into why she dislikes certain games, idk how to describe it but she's so amazing)
fav video of theirs: trapped in a hell that we made (soma)
Tumblr media
Worm Girl: discusses indie video games (such as her awesome video on fear and hunger!!). my friend recommended her to me and i could not be more grateful.
Tumblr media
wiredusagi: discusses video games and the themes in them, right now they only have 3 videos up (two of them being my favourites, they are apart of the "comfort in horror" series they've got going on). i found the Being Alone video very interesting, they're very well spoken.
Tumblr media
tamgomushi: I ADORE THEM SO MUCH. i can't count how many times i've rewatched their silent hill 3 video on exploring womanhood in horror. they are so smart and i learn so much when i watch their videos, they open me up to new things i would've never thought about before.
fav video: (obvi) Silent Hill 3: Exploring Womanhood through Horror
Tumblr media
Dev Limes: !!!! She analyzes music and trends (that relate to the music industry and artists and such), also a member of the band Queef Jerky (yes silly name but her vocals go crazy hard). i love the way she just talks about what's she's passionate about and interested in. if she had a podcast i'd be her number one listener fr.
fav video: the most polarizing song on tiktok
Tumblr media
eurothug4000: u can probably see a theme here, i love watching videos exploring horror in video games (and like the thought process that could've gone behind the creation of them, exploring themes within the video games, how it affected them, etc). they give new refreshing takes on games such as Silent Hill, and they're sooooo interesting to listen to.
fav video: How Shattered Memories Changed Silent Hill
please go check them out they're super awesome👍👍👍👍 (i also love nakey jakey, joseph anderson, and strange aeons, but they're popular so i didn't include them) :)))
