His fixation became a coping mechanism–an escapism, if you must. And even though this sounds unhealthy, it was also one of the reasons why he, at such a young age, became so accomplished as a musician. And perhaps what infuriates him more than anything, is that he’s not lacking self-awareness, he knows that he does that. He knows that it’s somewhat of a problem. It’s just… It’s just–sometimes he wishes he could break the pattern once, just once and then automatically reprogram his brain not to fall back into complacency, into its comfort zone only to restart the loop all over again. Fixation is indulgence, and no one’s ever accused Izuku of being a strong person.

I am alive! This chapter features a lot of Izuku angst. When I was coming up with this story, I always knew that Izuku would have an antagonist–in this case, it’s Katsuki’s girlfriend. But one thing I knew for sure was that I didn’t want to go down the bashing route. As I’m closer to my thirties now, I’ve gone through a lot and met many people who were amazing, lovely, but got in their own way in matters of their personal relationships. (And I’m raising my hand here as being one of them). So I always wanted to portray all relationships in this fic as being rather realistic, as opposed to cartoonish for the purpose of driving plot, you know? There’s a lot of subtlety to be found between the lines in this chapter. And for the love of god, please remember, IZUKU IS NOT THE MOST RELIABLE NARRATOR. hahahaha. Trust Melissa, she knows the things.

In retrospect, he really wished he had seen her first through Melissa’s phone.

Because nothing, absolutely nothing could have prepared him for Kacchan’s girlfriend opening the door to Kacchan’s parents’ house on Wednesday at 6pm.

We’re introduced to new characters–not only Katsuki’s !girlfriend! But also my beloved Momo–we also get to learn* a little bit more about Izuku’s and Melissa’s past (their friendship). This edit came out with some dekumomo vibes LOL but it’s not the intention! 

Since my fic is multiple-POV, these edits will feature relevant characters to the current chapter :3

Izuku’s quick thinking and over analytical nerdy brain is one of my favorite things about him and I’m glad to see this shine. I know BNHA is the origin story of hero Deku and how he became “the best hero”, yet it’s nice to see that although we are heading in the direction of immeasurable strength, his brains are not to be overlooked nor taken for granted.
