Blast is a mediocre hero

Talk about a controversial opinion! Well, I intend to defend it! With thanks to Eldrich_Void, who heard my rantings out.

This is not an opinion I rushed to. However, it has bothered me a lot that Blast seems to have a real track record for fucking things up. Almost all his endeavours seem to end up cursed in some way.

His evil partner, the ninja village horror he set up, and the way he seems intent on protecting the guy. His estranged son. The two heroes he saved both having serious complexes as a result. The monster he couldn't subdue.

Now that we get to see how he saw the situation on the ground, I think that Flashy Flash's accusing him of being unconscionably hesitant is right.

Under the circumstances, if I were Flash, I'd not trust that pressing that button would summon Blast in a manner timely enough to matter to me.

So, shall we see below the cut?

Before...

So, let's wind back all the way to chapter 165, back when Cosmic Garou landed. Remember then? He had time to pose for the benefit of the heroes gathered...

…then to look at himself, look at the heavens, and thank God for this gift of power.

Then Bang crawled up to Garou to try calling him back to his senses.

It took a while for the situation to ripen.

It's only in the next chapter, with Bang continuing to plead futilely with Garou, that Blast showed up.

Looks like he showed up as soon as he could.

So far, so good. It seemed that Blast came as soon as he could, given whatever else he was busy with. In the current timeline, Saitama came back from the future and punched Garou right when the latter looked up to thank God, so we thought, reasonably, that Blast never had a chance to appear. Case closed.

And looks like he didn't have an opportunity to show up.

But now we see more...

Several chapters have come and gone, and now we have a fuller picture of the event. And now we know that Blast was aware and on scene when Garou unleashed his gamma-ray burst:

Oh, so you were here.

We know too that Blast was on scene when Saitama appeared to punch out Cosmic Garou, before Bang even had a chance to crawl to Garou.

And there!

So Blast had had an opportunity to intervene earlier but did not take any action until after everyone was dropping dead and Bang was using the last of his energy to plead with Garou to come to his senses.

Okay, there's a place for observing the scene before you wade in so as not to make matters worse. As Drive Knight points out, rushing into things without proper analysis is a foolish thing. However, there's one thing I can't overlook. Even if Blast did not want to carelessly jump into a fight, the fact that he was able to reroute Garou's cosmic rays away from the heroes on the ground -- but had not done so originally... that is borderline unforgiveable.

Damn, if you could always do that, you should have done it earlier!

Let me be extremely clear. I don't hold Blast wholly responsible for restoring Empty Void. Yes, his rerouting the now free-floating 'God' powers as well as the cosmic rays to another dimension accidentally fed Void. That was careless, but not incomprehensible: thinking that one's evil ex-partner whom you left more dead than alive 15 years ago might be camping his nasty half-starved body on the other side of the dimensional hole you opened up in order to receive God's powers is not at the top of anyone's mind. What I am holding him responsible for is failing in the first duty of a hero: HELP PEOPLE!!

Now, let's go back to the original timeline. Even before he stepped up to support Bang, he could have rerouted those cosmic rays and saved most of the heroes. But he did not. I don't think he thought of it. Not a good hero instinct. But it gets worse.

Once it was clear that Garou had no intention of leaving the planet or ceasing to kill with his very presence, Genos stepped up, risking his life to buy Blast an opening.

Being a hero to the core. When people are in need, he is there.

However, when he was in danger and it was clear that Garou was fixing to kill him, did Blast step up? No. He just stood there, opened his mouth and bleated 'No.' [1]

And it gets worse still. It's not like Garou ripped Genos's head off to kill him instantly. Garou punched Genos through his center of mass. That was really bad: his upper torso is heavily protected for a reason, but that is not what killed him. We find out afterwards that Genos remembers seeing Garou pull his core out. Even that did not kill him: we've seen from back with the Giant Meteor that while losing his core's functionality will stop him being able to move his body, Genos's life support systems run independently of it. No, what killed him was Garou smashing him down so hard that his head and armor shattered and his blood splattered and ran into the ground, some of it being washed into long runnels by the fallout rain. So Blast stood there and watched while Garou not only struck Genos critically, but mutilated and maimed him to death. It was as if Garou was taunting him to try something heroic. And when Saitama finally arrived on the scene, Blast was just standing there. Uselessly.

Blast does not have the instincts of a hero.

Saitama rightly criticised himself for losing sight of what a hero's true duty was. I remember back when Sonic asked him who he was, he defined himself as the person who helps people when they are in trouble. [2] And he knows he fell short.

Blast appears to have totally lost sight of this fact. That's why his work is cursed.

A Hero Is More Than Mere Works

Without any doubt, Blast is strong. He is righteous but he's not looking at situations the way a hero should. He looks at things more as a warrior -- and it's not really helpful. He's forgotten the need to actually *be* a hero.

If I think about it a bit more, Blast was concerned for the health of the heroes on the field. Yet he did not protect them, even though he could have. He did not move them out of the way, even though he could have. He did not call on the rest of his compatriots to help him accomplish these goals, even though he could have and they would have helped.

I don't think that Blast is in danger of being deposed as the number 1 hero any time soon but man, it's as Flashy Flash says, his conduct is disappointing.

It's an insult to the heroes we've seen. I can't begin to imagine how bitterly Tatsumaki would be if she could have seen him. As the narrator said, she puts him on too high a pedestal. When I think of how hard she fought while never forgetting the helpless child, the civilians at risk, the rest of the strike team, and taking care of them even as it reduced her fighting efficiency, it's everything Blast ought to be. We saw so many heroes risk their lives to help others, even when they weren't of any strategic value.

Tatsumaki's determination to throw nobody under the bus, no matter how expedient, is the soul of heroism.

A hero is not merely their works. A hero is also what they symbolise. Amai Mask gets it: that's why he goes on and on about a hero being a beautiful symbol of peace. Saitama gets it: that's a big part of why he refused to out King because he symbolised being a hero so well. Mumen Rider lives it: even though he's not strong (by hero standards), he's greatly respected and people are inspired by him to do better in their lives.

What a hero is: someone who saves from danger, someone who reassures, someone who inspires.

Blast doesn't get it. When he had an opportunity to mitigate Garou's cosmic radiation and save lives, it did not occur to him. When he could have swallowed his pride and called back up to help him subdue Garou and save hero lives, it did not even cross his mind: he only saw a fight.

Since when was justice a matter of who can hit who harder?

And when he didn't prevail, he just stood there. When it was time for him to step up as a hero and actually take on some risk to try saving a life, he stood there, as hapless as any civilian. Even when it was hopeless, we didn't see the likes of Tank Top Master giving up. We didn't see Genos giving up on Tatsumaki, even when they were swarmed by Black Sperm. You don't give up on people.

No wonder his works are cursed.

How might the curse be lifted?

Some thoughts.

Never mind Tatsumaki: it's a rare hero who wouldn't be appalled. They all look up to Blast as the ultimate hero.

Fortunately, the only person who knows is Genos: it takes knowing how else things would have played out if Saitama hadn't arrived in the nick of time. Genos has no interest in trying to run down Blast: what little credibility he's got, he's used to tell Sicchi to ensure that Saitama got called up if Blast came up with anything.

Unfortunately, Sicchi hasn't passed on that message to Blast and Saitama's been allowed to go dawdling away. Even more unfortunately, what Sicchi has told Blast about Genos is that he's a terror who impedes access to Saitama. This may have terrible consequences down the line.

Talk about leaving out the important part. That 'is that so?' gives me chills.

You know how some readers are disappointed that the MA arc did not end with Saitama lecturing Garou about the importance of not compromising one's goals? It seems to me that Blast needs that lecture a lot more badly than Garou ever needed it in any version. He's forgotten that the point of heroism is the people you help *first* before it is about glorious fights. Important as it is to fight, losing sight of the human need in front of you is a hiding to nothing.

Or, if you want to put it differently: Saitama is likely to have a reason to confront Blast in the future.

Someone needs to hear this message and it's not the truculent teenage tearaways.

I am going to be there for it with a giant tub of ice cream!

[1] What was it that Awakened Garou said back in the WC: 'When facing an imminent threat against a monster, all you do is open your mouth and start babbling. It's an easy kind of job.'? (ch 85). It has applied very brutally to Blast here.

Scientists have long struggled to explain why bony fishes are so small: The heaviest—the ocean sunfish—is just 2.3 metric tons, but cartilaginous fishes like whale sharks can weigh up to 34 metric tons. Now, a new study of an ancient giant suggests this modern difference is merely an evolutionary accident. Bony fish, which make up some 95% of all fish species, might be constrained by their metabolism according to one argument. Larger animals generally have to make do with less oxygen per gram of tissue; because bony fish seem to have higher metabolic requirements than sharks, it might simply be impossible for them to grow much larger than the ocean sunfish. Enter Leedsichthys problematicus. The extinct fish—thought to be the largest on record—lived about 165 million years ago in Europe and South America. It grew to at least 16.5 meters in length and might have weighed 45 metric tons, which means it was larger even than today's whale shark...

Alright, I'm here to speak for my husband.

I'm new in Tumblr, so I don't exactly know what people think about Noa here, but as far as I have seen in other places, people generally say that he is the worst coach in NEL.

WHICH IS NOT TRUE AT ALL!

*screeches and rips out your wig*

Firstly, no coaches forced/pressurised anyone to choose their teams. It was one's own wish to go wherever the heck they want. Further, Ego explained everything about each stratum individually, so one knew what he was going in for.

So in no particular order, let's start.

1. Lavinho

I agree that the whole speech by Lavi was actually fantastic, and further when Bachira told him about his Monster, not so surprisingly, Lavi told him exactly what he needed to hear because dun dun dun! Who chose FC Barcha?

Bachira did, so obviously, it was the best for him and he improved.

Schizophrenia meets paranoia.

I mean, if he were to go in Ubers, Snuffy would've destroyed his 'originality'; if he were to go in PxG, he would've been outshined and pushed into being a midfielder, and in BM, he would've been depressed tbh. Manshine City is the only one which I think he could've improved physically.

All in all, my main focus about Lavi in this post is this panel:

In that same chapter (163) of the above panel, he calls out for Kunigami for the goals he missed, and then later (165) he asks him, "Now that you have seen it live, you think you can copy those movements?" If we consider his stoic personality, then it's his way of teaching.

Further, in chapter 164, when Lavi and Noa were going 1V1, and Isagi decided to jump in to steal the ball, Lavi used the blueberry boy as a way to get past Noa. Of course, Lavi was like, "Oh? Weaklings are just noise." LIKE HONEY STOP HE IS JUST A HIGH SCHOOL-ER!?

But yeah, Noa didn't chase Lavi further, and instead stopped to catch falling Isagi and explained him about the playstyle of Lavi.

BRO WHAT YOU WANT MORE!? HE IS NOT A BAD COACH!

2. Chris Prince

It's surprising, but his speech was hella good during the introduction.

And I don't mind that he strips and endorses stuffs. Like, do what you gotta do to get the bread in this economy. Besides, if I were a man and had a body like his, I'll be showing off too.

What, obviously, I'm going to show is this:

Like, the scores were 2-2, it was a PEAK moment, and he jumps in to take the spotlight?

Noa rightfully calls him out for it:

"This isn't your stage, Chris. Back off."

LOUDER FOR THE HATERS!

And you are telling me that Noa is a bad coach, huh?

Chris literally provoked Kaiser, made a near fool out off Yukimiya, and then started a beef with Isagi.

ACT YOUR AGE, CHRIS!

It's like someone throws me and you between Kindergartens, and then I start to write in beautiful cursive to prove that I'm so better than you.

3. Marc Snuffy

It's hypocritical, but the thing I called out Lavinho for, is the same reason why I wouldn't have gone to Ubers if I were a Blue Lock-er: telling the players what to do.

Starting from the start, we can see that Snuffy is one hell of a strategist, and was able to impress everyone.

However, it's been so long since NEL started that we have nearly forgotten that Blue Lock was made for strikers, and everyone selected were the forwards of their team. Like, fym Barou is the best suited to be a striker. Personally, I wouldn't have let it slide and would've started swinging fists.

Also, why are you trauma dumping into a 18 year old you met a few moments ago, just because he refused to play by your sayings.

Imagine someone tells you a story, and you go like, "Why are you telling me some loser's story?" And that someone replies, "Oh, actually, that was my best friend and he killed himself."

Are you getting me?

Further, I think Ubers got the better end of stick because:

Barou Shoei. No explanation needed.

Aryu Jyubei. He was literally the Top 3 during the second selection.

Niko Ikki. Bro is only 15 and hasn't even played for that long and was able to defend against Shidou and has meta vision.

Aiku Oliver. No explanation needed.

Sendou Shuto. Bro was literally the ace of (ex) U-20 team.

Don Lorenzo. Bro stopped Kaiser's impact

At this point, I'm getting my own emotions involved, but I didn't like how he just assigned everyone into positions. It felt like he molded them according to his own wants/needs that is, to win. I mean, he used data of the players to come up with a plan, right? Then why people think Noa is too reliant on numbers?

I'm not saying that Snuffy is a bad coach. Whatever he did, it turned out to work for the best. In fact, kudos for him to help Barou score by pushing Noa aside:

He is a good man and a good coach. Please don't think I hate Ubers.

4. Julian Loki

We haven't seen much of him, but if Shidou and Rin are in close quarters without trying to bust open eachother's skulls, then I think Loki is good at whatever he is cooking. Further, the fact that he is only 17, makes everything very impressive.

I know that we have already gotten a chapter focused on PxG, but it's not sufficient to precisely say how things got to be the way they are currently.

Also, ngl, I do think that PxG got the better end of the stick too:

Itoshi Rin. No explanation needed.

Shidou Ryusei. No explanation needed.

Tokimitsu Aoshi. He was literally Top 3 during the second selection. Like, even Barou couldn't defend against him (at that time).

Karasu Tabito. Bro is smart.

Tsurugi Zantetsu. Bro is speed.

Charles Chevalier. HE IS 15 AND ALREADY A PLAYMAKER.

Nanase Nijiro. Can't say much, but I think he is good.

The only problems are:

Itoshi Rin

Shidou Ryusei

Lol

To sum it up, Noa isn't a bad coach.

I do think it was a bit not-so considerate of him to just throw them into those physical tests because THEY ARE JAPANESE, NOA!? THEY CAN'T UNDERSTAND YOU!? If I were to be there, I would've been so lost like, Man, what you even want me to do?

Well, like I said earlier, everyone who chose the Germany stratum knew what they were getting into. Besides, Noa had made it crystal clear from the very start that if you want to play as regulars, prove it through your performance— what more do you want him to do!? Die or something?

Secondly, when Isagi came to his office/workspace whatever that is to ask for advice. He did give him one, in his own way. It was same like Lavi did to Bachi, and Chris did to Nagi, but each of them gave advices that reflected their own personalities.

Also, considering the environment in which he grew, one could expect him to be money hungry you know, yet, he was against of letting Isagi play in the match just because the sponsors wanted, and denied it till he forcefully agreed to let him play in, at least, one match. Even when he was subbing in him, he bluntly said, "It's fan service." This post isn't about Isagi, otherwise I would've mentioned how he proved his worth and THAT'S why Noa continued to let him play.

Further, I don't understand why people forget that in every match, Noa has explained stuffs to Isagi. For example:

Us Readers, take this as a narration about a character, and forget that in the BLLK universe, Isagi is the listener.

I don't think so that just because someone has an experience of doing something for long period of time, it also mean that they are capable of teaching others the same— Noa, I think, is doing his best; he literally, though for like a minute, let go of his striker position and did what was necessary for Isagi to score (chapter 201).

Just because Noa-Isagi interactions are highlighted more, doesn't mean Noa hasn't helped others too— he was watching over Kiyora and Igaguri practice, remember? Isagi is the protagonist after all, it makes sense for him to have the most spotlight.

To be completely honest, in the end, there is no definitive way of comparing all the coaches, it just boils down to what playstyle you have.

That's it, I guess.

Noa seems like someone who takes the meaning in the literal sense, like, someone be like, "He is such a Daddy material!" And he'd reply with a straight face, "I don't plan to have kids any time soon, but I appreciate that you think I'm worthy to be a Father." I just know he is dense.

(Quick note: I am a short girl, like not even 160 cm (5’3) so my perception of tall people may be different from yours. Also, I used metric system so if the feet and inches are wrong, do tell so I can correct it)

Bachelorettes

• Abigail

I actually like her to be so short that she made Sebastian look tall and Sam looked like a giant so maybe at most 160 cm (5’3) but I like her to be 155 cm (5’1). To me, she’s the youngest in the trio but not by much so maybe 21-22.

• Emily

She and Haley (and Leah) are the taller bachelorettes, definitely above 170 cm (5’7) not as tall as Haley but still pretty tall. I think she’s about 173 cm (5’8). She’s definitely one of the older bachelorettes and I like her a bit older than Leah so 31-32.

• Haley

The tallest bachelorette, she could be a model in the city due to her beauty and height. She’s at LEAST 175 cm (5’9) but she can be taller. A bit older than Abigail, so 23.

• Leah

One of the taller bachelorettes but still shorter than the sisters, 170 cm (5’7) is perfect to me. She’s a bit younger than Emily and Elliott but still one of the older marriageable character so 28-30 years old.

• Maru

Despite both Robin and Demetrius being tall, Maru is average at most. She’s not short but not as tall either, I think 165 cm (5’5) is perfect height for her. IMO she’s the youngest bachelorette and the youngest marriageable character overall, she’s a genius so I think she skipped grades and gets degree earlier. 19-20 years old.

• Penny

If Abigail is short, then Penny is tiny. Her and Pam are very short so they make many of the residents look tall, she’s no more than 152 cm (5’0). She’s slightly older than the ASS trio (+Alex and Haley) but she’s not part of the older marriageable characters so she’s about 24-25 years old.

Bachelors

• Alex

He’s a pretty tall and athletic guy, definitely above average so I think he’s about 183-185 cm (6’0-6’1). He’s the same age as Haley, Sebastian, and Sam (23 years old).

• Elliott

He’s built like those hunks in bodice ripper novel covers so he’s TALL, at the very least he’s 188 cm (6’2). He’s one of the older marriageable character and he’s definitely in his 30s, my hc is that he’s the youngest one in the trio of older bachelors so I think he’s about 32 years old.

• Harvey

He’s like a Slenderman, very tall and lanky. To me, he’s the tallest bachelor and one of the tallest characters. He’s actually 195 cm (6’4ish) but he has terrible posture so he looks 190-191 cm (6’3). He’s the oldest canon marriageable character and he has MD so he’s at least 34 years old but I think he’s 37.

• Sam

He’s above average but has long limbs that made him look taller, he’s 180-182 cm (5’11) but sometimes likes to claim he’s 6’0. Despite acting like a teenager, he’s 23.

• Sebastian

Robin might be tall but he did not get her genes on that one, the rest? Sure, especially his face but not height, sadly. I think 173 cm (5’8) is the perfect height for him, but sometimes I like to make him 170 cm (5’7) for shits and giggles. 23 years old.

• Shane

SHORT KING, shortest bachelor and at most he’s 165 cm (5’5). He’s in his 30s (34-36 to be more specific).

Recently I was talking to a friend about vampire energy, which is the electricity used by many devices to maintain a standby condition. Many of these devices use small amounts of electricity even when sleeping or turned off. Devices with clocks and internal thermostats to maintain a specific temperature as well as many “smart” electronic products use vampire energy. My friend was interested in knowing how much power is used worldwide for this vampire energy, so I went looking for a number. According to the article below, “Studies from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) have found that more than 100 billion kilowatt-hours are wasted every year because of vampire energy, costing American consumers over $19—about $165 per US household on average—and 50 large (500-megawatt) power plants’ worth of electricity.” “Cutting vampire energy consumption in half, in the US alone, would be the equivalent of turning off the carbon emissions of a medium-sized country, like Jordan or Lebanon.” The article points out that “at the industrial level, 21 percent of all electricity consumed by buildings is wasted”. Most of us are not in charge of industrial facilities, but when at work we can at least turn lights off and unplug our phone chargers before we go home. Other things to consider:

Plug electronic devices into an easily-accessible power strip so that you can turn the power completely off at night or when you are not using the device. Choose settings that put the device into a low-power sleep mode after a short period of non-use.

Unplug devices such as digital clocks in a guest bedroom. You can plug them back in when guests are expected.

Don’t leave chargers plugged in when they’re not actively charging your device. All those smartphone, laptop, and personal care device chargers use electricity even when not connected to the item they are intended to charge.

Worldbuilding

For the purposes of this post, "base" lifespan is the average lifespan of one of these people, outside of the help and benefits of society, but also assuming nothing ends their lives prematurely (such as what disease or starvation would cause).

"Modern" lifespan, on the other hand, is an average that factors in what medicine, magic, and social networking can boost that lifespan further. "Maximum" lifespan is the oldest a given member of the race can get with optimal medical care and lifestyle.

Humans

Heartrate: 60 - 100bpm Base lifespan: 85 Modern lifespan: -

No data available. Humans went extinct centuries ago due to a plague.

Elves

Heartrate: 20 - 30bpm Base lifespan: 255 Modern lifespan: 510 (max: 612)

Elves, being very long-lived already, have a very intricate understanding of medical care, magic, and the local resources, the lattermost of which their society fought hard to lay claim to early on. They're by far the most widespread of the eight races, their lifespans and advancements creating a feedback loop into their spread across known society.

Faunlings

Heartrate: 90 - 120bpm Base lifespan: 60 Modern lifespan: 85 (max: 101)

Faunlings have a shorter base lifespan than most races, but have a solid community network to take care of their illnesses and elderly. Faunlings put a heavy emphasis on family duty, though "family" also extends to someone's immediate neighbors.

Halflings

Heartrate: 120 - 140bpm* Base lifespan: 50 Modern lifespan: 70 (max: 84)*

Halflings have a duty to one another that extends to those nearby on a similar level to faunlings, though it's hard to measure how much this truly impacts them given how readily they disperse into other societies in the modern age.

*A halfling's heartrate and lifespan are largely dependent on their surroundings. A given halfling will adapt to more closely match the society they take part in, slowing or speeding up accordingly and benefiting from the social nets and societal advances in place.

Below are the rough modern lifespan expectations of a halfling in a given setting:

Elvish halfling: 305 Faunish halfling: 75 Orcish halfling: 185 Dwarvish halfling: 135 Brounish halfling: 145 Gnomish halfling: 75

Orcs

Orcs both have a high understanding of magic and healthcare and have incredibly strong community ties. Ages and ages ago, they were the strongest ones to stand against the elves in the rush for resources, and alongside them, are the most widespread people.

Dwarves

Heartrate: 30 - 50bpm Base lifespan: 165 Modern lifespan: 205 underground, 290 surface (max 247, sun max 347)

There's a big discrepancy between underground dwarves and surface dwarves. Rather than being a result of culture, however, this is a factor of biology—when dwarves go into torpor state due to sunlight, while petrified, their ageing effectively pauses. A dwarf that lives their whole life with the sun sending them into stone hibernation for a third of their existence is going to have more than a few years in change.

Brounies

Heartrate: 40 - 60bpm Base lifespan: 130 Modern lifespan: 210 (max 250)

Brounies have tight community ties, to the point where it's something of a joke that one brounie can name all the others in the area by heart. This means that, even where healthcare is poor, one falling ill has almost an entire population pitching in to help them out. Brounish history involves a lot of their needs and struggles being swept under the rug in favor of the other people of the world, so they very much have a culture of "if we don't look out for each other, nobody's going to look out for us."

Gnomes

Heartrate: 120 - 160bpm Base lifespan: 45 Modern lifespan: 70 (max 86)

Gnomes live in small pocket communities where they share responsibility for one another. They specialize in their own medicine, not because the advancements of modern society are lackluster, but because many of their biological problems involve a level of toxicology most other races don't know how to manage. Gnomes are poisonous.

The story takes place 165 years after the original story, with a completely different world building than Legend of Korra. (Yes, this comic is a sequel to AtLA and not LoK.)

Life in Shun Fei is a little bit different than how things used to be.

As for the main character of the story, it is Sena, a 12 year-old, non-bender boy. He is a bookworm and mostly annoyed with his life.

Now, please let me tell you a little bit about how this comic came to be!

I was a die-hard fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender as a kid, and that love has never died. I've always felt that Avatar's world was so lush and alive, that so many unique stories could be born from it. And even the most simple and humble ones would be infinitely interesting.

You definitely don't have to agree with me, but I was personally disappointed with how things went after the first series, meaning with both LoK and the comics (which I must admit I've never watched or read in entirety). For one thing, I couldn't come to terms with how Avatar's world had changed so much and became a lot more like our own world. So I asked, "If it were me, how would I write it?" And that's how this comic came to be.

( Despite this, I really hope that LoK fans will still enjoy my story as an AU! )

Sena's Adventures, at its core, is meant to be a story which examines the complex spiritual problems that arise from modernization. AtLA did something very similar, but through the framework of imperialism and war. Sena's Adventures on the other hand, takes place in a peaceful time. And even though its world is technologically far less advanced than that of LoK, it still carries the seed of a conflict between "reason and magic".

I wanted this story to feel simple and naive, like a children’s story. I really like that about AtLA and I believe many others do too, despite our biological ages.

Saguaro National Park

An instantly recognizable Arizona icon is the massive saguaro cactus. These giants are 125 years old on average (they grow arms once they’re around 60), can reach 50ft and weigh eight tons. The best place to see this protected species, which only grows in the Sonoran desert, is at Saguaro National Park. It’s divided into Rincon Mountain District (Saguaro East) and Tucson Mountain District (Saguaro West), and the city of Tucson sits smack in between.

Interesting facts:

Saguaro National Park was the very first national park created specifically to protect a plant species, the Saguaro – a large cactus that is native to the Sonoran Desert and that does not grow naturally elsewhere.

The park contains 523 known archeological sites – spanning more than 8,000 years of human occupation during prehistoric and historic times. It is a delight to see items of human history remaining in the park.

Saguaro National Park is located in the most biologically diverse desert in North America, the Sonoran Desert, which has more than 2000 plant species and over 550 animal species.

The Saguaros, known as the “The Sentinels of the Desert”, may live as long as 200 years and are considered mature at about age 125. A mature saguaro can grow up to 60 feet (18 m) tall and weigh up to 4,800 pounds (2,200 kg) when fully hydrated. The total number of saguaros in the park is estimated at 1.8 million, and 24 other species of cactus are abundant.

More than 165 miles (266 km) of hiking trails wind through the park, where perils may include extreme heat, dehydration, flash floods, cactus spines, snakes, cougars, bears, and Africanized bees.

These “desert islands” support 6000 plant species, second only in biodiversity to the Amazon rainforest.

Marius rescuing Amadeo from certain death, caring for him, loving him, cherishing him, and making the boy smile for the first time in a long time.

Amadeo is sick with a fever and he pushes his cheek to Marius' cheek to cool off (TVA pg 51)

Marius hires four new chefs after Amadeo tells him the Arabian food he ate for three days in the brothel was better than the food he was served at home (TVA pg 65)

Marius and Armand drink from the same victim, and sometimes Marius holds the victim just for Armand to drink from (TVA pg 165)

Armand goes to sit and write after Marius punishes him. Marius approaches him and Armand knows it's to kiss him. Despite having just been punished, he lifts his head for the kiss even before Marius bends down. Marius confessing later he hates punishing Amadeo (TVA pg 206)

Marius hates punishing Amadeo, and always gives him kisses or pleasure afterwards. Amadeo always lavishes it.

How they nearly always greet each other with hugs and kisses, no matter the circumstances.

Armand mentioning that he avoids Marius because he is afraid he will fall completely back in love

Their mutual obsession with technology - While Armand is obsessing over blenders and microwaves, Marius is in awe over film and cameras.

"Marius stared at the distant house. My world trembles and I think of him, my Amadeo, my Armand." (QotD pg 242)

On the 133rd day of Israel's war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) committed 10 new massacres, resulting in the deaths of more than 112 civilians and wounding another 157 Palestinians over the previous 24-hours.

According to Gaza's Ministry of Health, large numbers of dead and wounded still remain under the rubble of homes and buildings, or strewn across local roads and streets as the IOF blocks ambulance and civil defense crews from reaching victims.

In the early morning hours, Israeli artillery, drone, missile and airstrikes targeting various areas of the Gaza Strip resulting in a number of dead and wounded.

In the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where the world awaits an immenent invasion by the IOF, occupation aircraft dropped several bombs targeting two civilian residences belonging to the Judeh and Zarub families in the central and northern areas of the city, resulting in the deaths of 11 Palestinians and wounding several others.

Yesterday, Israeli occupation forces raided the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, forcing out hundreds of civilians sheltering inside, along with medical staff and patients.

The Israeli occupation launched a large-scale ground invasion in the south of Gaza, in particular in Khan Yunis, where they raided Nasser Hospital, forcing the relocation of 95 healthcare personnel, along with 11 of their family members, 191 patients, and 165 displaced civilians sheltering inside. They were all forced out of the supplied units of the newer hospital building and into the old Nasser building under inhumane conditions.

In a mockingly horrifying twist of imaginary accusations made years ago against Iraq, accusing them of leaving babies to die on the floors of neonatal units of hospitals in Kuwait, the bodies of several infants were found dead in Nasser Hospital after occupation forces forcibly evacuated the hospital of staff and refused to arrange for proper care or movement of the infants, ignoring the babies and leaving them to die.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue to besiege the few functional sections of the old Nasser Medical building, with occupation snipers staging on nearby rooftops targeting anyone moving near the complex and its surrounds.

According to Gaza's Ministry of Health, the Israeli occupation's raid of the hospital resulted in a power outage which led to the deaths of three patients dependent on oxygen tanks.

The Ministry also added that two Palestinian women gave birth under "dire and inhumane conditions, without electricity, without water, without food, and without heating, in the Nasser Medical Complex.”

Southeast of Khan Yunis, in the south of Gaza, Israeli aircraft launched several air raids on civilian areas, while occupation artillery shelling targeted the east of Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip.

Occupation warplanes also bombarded two civilian residences belonging to the Sabbah and Afana families on Al-Sika Street, east of Jabalia, killing several civilians, including a pregnant woman, and wounding a number of others.

Meanwhile, as Israel's siege of the Gaza Strip continues indefinitely, it has been reported that several children died at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia as a result of disease, famine and a lack of potable water. Such easily preventable deaths are a direct result of Israel's unwillingness to allow humanitarian aid in to the Gaza Strip. More than 600'000 Palestinians are not receiving humanitarian aid in areas besieged by the IOF.

IOF warplanes are also targeting the Tal al-Zaatar neighborhood, as well as shelling the al-Mughraqa area in northern parts of the Central Governate and in the vicinity of the University college in the south of the al-Sabra neighborhood in Gaza City.

The Israeli occupation air forces also used warplanes to bomb the al-Sabra and al-Zaytoun neighborhoods of Gaza City, while artillery shelling by the IOF targeted the Sheikh Ajlin neighborhood in the west of the city.

Also in Gaza City, an Israeli airstrike bombed a civilian vehicle and group of civilians on al-Jala street, resulting in the deaths of three Palestinians and injuries to five other civilians, while also dealing significant damage to nearby properties and buildings.

According to local reports, medical staff, patients and the displaced trapped inside are without access to food, clean water or baby formula.

It has been reported that the Israeli occupation army has turned the main Nasser building into a military barracks for its troops as they continue bombing, shelling, and opening gunfire on civilians in nearby neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is reporting the return of two of its medical doctors, Dr. Jamal Ayad and Dr. Nadez Qerm, after being abducted by the Israeli occupation army during its raid of the Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis.

The two PRCS medical staff were kidnapped during the recent raid of the hospital. As of the time of publishing, 12 PRCS personnel, including 7 from Al-Amal Hospital, remain detained by the Israeli occupation.

At the same time, PRCS is also reporting that Israeli tanks fired shells towards the second floor of Al-Amal Hospital, resulting in heavy damage to two nursing rooms, though luckily, no one was injured in the attack.

According to the Red Crescent, occupation tanks have been stationed outside Al-Amal Hospital's entrance gate for more than two weeks now, preventing aid or supplies from reaching the hospital.

PRCS also mentioned that the Israeli occupation has seized the funds of the Red Crescent Society, along with its personnel and even that of their patients and their companions in the hospital, along with their personal belongings. They also confiscated computers and wireless communication devices used by hospital staff and those of the Society.

PRCS again issued a statement calling on the international community to intervene on behalf of its personnel working to save lives in the Gaza Strip, asking that they protect its staff, patients, and the civilians sheltering inside and on the premises.

As a direct result of Israel's ongoing war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, in excess of 28'775 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, while another 68'552 civilians have been wounded since October 7th, 2023.

Ouhh,,, I'm so normal about this family bro I swear,,,

I tend to flip-flop between making Rome their father or their grandfather. I usually go with the father route, but I do have AUs and storylines where he's their Nonno :)

(In addition to the point above, a plus-side of Rome being their dad is Romano gets to call him "Babbo". I also like calling him "Babbo Roma")

Romano looks the most like Rome. It's more apparent when you compare him to Rome's younger self when he didn't have as much muscle or stubble. I like to think they have a bust of his head in their shared apartment and, upon first glance, other nations often mistake it for a statue of Romano.

I mentioned this in a previous post but Romano and Rome share the same name. For the sake of simplicity, however, people usually call him Romulus.

Rome is 165 cm, Romano is also 165 cm, Feliciano is 170 cm, and Seborga is 178 cm. Romulus is very impressed with Sebby's height, and always compliments him on it. One of his favorite compliments is telling him he would make a great centurion with the right training (at which point the twins have to cut in and say no their baby brother will NOT be a soldier of any kind, thank you)

Rome is definitely very protective over his boys, which I'm sure is something their partners enjoy dealing with. I have fun imagining what his reaction would be to various partners/ships.

In the case of GerIta/ItaGer, I wouldn't be surprised if Romulus demanded Feliciano break up with Ludwig as soon as he found out he was German (as if Feliciano would listen) kdhfkj

I talked about this headcanon on my main blog (in Italian, though), but I'll bring it up here too. Rome usually spoke to his boys in some form of Latin, but he began learning Italian when Seborga joined the family. The kid was probably around 3-4 years old when Rome first met him and obviously didn't speak a lick of Latin.

Now onto some more serious stuff:

Rome lived past 476 AD. The last time Romano and Feliciano saw him was around 546, when Romulus sent them out of the city at the tail-end of a devastating siege on Rome during the Gothic Wars. They were separated to increase the chance of one child surviving- one heading north and the other heading south to their respective territories. Whether he survived past that is unclear to many nations. Some claim they spotted him in various places throughout Europe, a husk of the man he once was. Others believe he lived in hiding in the Byzantine Empire. No one is certain about what happened to him, and his ghost has a difficult time remembering what happened after the Gothic Wars.

This is deserving of its own more analytical/detailed post, but here are my two cents on what their relationship/dynamic looks like (in my mind). Though Rome loved his boys deeply, and the brothers loved him in return, life was not always peachy. There were certainly a lot of expectations put on their shoulders from a very young age. Rome had spent his entire life building an empire and a legacy, something he wanted to live on through his descendants, namely Romano. The firstborn, the fighter, and the one who commanded attention easily. The one who looked and acted the most like Rome did in his own youth. Under the right guidance, he could be shaped into a leader. However, this meant the boy was often scrutinized heavily by those around him and judged more harshly than his twin. He wasn't respected as his own person and was merely seen as an extension of his father/grandfather. Feliciano, on the other hand, was on the "weaker" and "softer" side. Rome adored him and coddled him, treated him more gently than Romano, but he didn't really respect him, if that makes any sense? So Feliciano felt the need to compete and one-up his brother to prove his own worth, even if it caused the brothers to start fighting (physical altercations were not uncommon). Romulus didn't seem to notice these issues. How could he when he was often away from home? In his eyes, his family was doing just fine. They seemed like two happy kids whenever he was around, and any fight that broke out between the twins was often chalked up to "brothers will be brothers"/"boys will be boys". These familial issues went completely unchecked for most of the boys' lives, and it wasn't until more modern times that they started to reflect on their childhood and its impact. Not all was doom and gloom in their childhoods ofc, but there were certainly quite a few issues. Like I said, this probably needs its own post kjfdgk
