you knocked on the window softly. your heart beat harder in your chest as you waited for the glass to be lifted by the boy on the other side, the boy you so intensely longed for.

jaehyun looked up at you as he pulled the blinds away, bringing his bright face into full view. you smiled small and he lifted the screen, crawling out of the window, standing in front of you.

"what are you doing?" he asked, voice quiet. "it's so late, you can't—"

"i was missing you. i always miss you."

jaehyun sighed, grabbing your hand. "we can't keep doing this. it's not...it's not right."

your parents hated jaehyun since the day they met. they found him too low for their standards of who you were supposed to be with—which to you, was complete bullshit. ever since, you had to keep your distance from jaehyun, only being able to see him in the late hours of the night.

you put your head on his shoulder. "i know i promised to stay away. but i can't keep my word—not when you're involved.

jaehyun put a hand on your head, carding his fingers through your hair. you leaned into his touch, savoring the moment, as you weren't sure if it'd be the last.

A/n: I’m sad and I’m making that everyone else’s problem. Enjoy, I guess.

You weren’t like this.

You didn’t do attachments. You didn’t catch feelings.

So why was he so different?

Was it the way his eyes softened when he looked at you? The way his smile made your stomach turn? The way he did all the little things you never knew you wanted done?

You weren’t like this.

You didn’t get happy when your phone buzzed. You didn’t look forward to seeing people.

Was it because he was just so easy to talk to? Because whatever he said made you feel like a middle schooler having their first crush? Or how his voice sounded like your favorite song?

This wasn’t you.

For fucks sake, he’s never even said that he had feelings for you. How did you end up like this?

This wasn’t you and you’d be damned if let yourself get hurt like this.

You weren’t going to stay vulnerable. You weren’t going to fall.

You picked up your phone, your finger hovering over his contact name as you second guessed yourself.

You didn’t want to, honestly, but somewhere inside you, you were too scared to face what would happen if you didn’t.

You sighed as you sent it, your chest feeling heavy at how fast he answered.

You bit the inside of your cheek as you typed your response.

You were outside his apartment, your fingers fiddling with your phone as you waited for him to come down.

This was you.

Running away from your emotions. Not letting anyone get too close. Refusing to let yourself get too comfortable with someone.

So why were you so nervous? Why were you unsure of going through with this? Why were you scared?

“Why wait down here? You could’ve come up.” He smiled as he walked up to you.

You straightened up and sighed.

“Uhm, I just felt it’d be easier to talk outside.” You cleared your throat.

“Why? Is something up?” His eyes widened slightly and your chest tightened up.

He deserved better.

“I think,” You started, your gaze falling to the floor as you couldn’t find it in you to look at him. “I think we should stop whatever it is this is.”

It was quiet and you weren’t sure if you should continue or wait for him to say something. After a few minutes you chose the former.

“I just don’t think I can keep seeing someone like you.” You started. “Not that we’re actually seeing each other or anything.” You clarified. “I just look back at everything between us and I don’t think we’re good for each other.”

You finally looked up at him and his face held an expression you’d never seen.

“Was it something I did?” His voice came out softer than usual and you cleared your throat, trying to come up with something to say.

“I just-” You sighed, deciding to lie your way out of this. “You’re too much for me.”

You watched the way his eyes fell and you bit the inside of your lip to ground yourself.

“It was fun while it lasted bu-“

“Fun? Was that all I was to you?” He cut you off with a scoff.

You were taken aback, not used to seeing this side of him. Hell, you didn’t even know it existed.

“Yes. Fun.” You shot back. “Neither of us ever expressed that it was anything different.”

“Did you regret it?”

“No," You started, the look on your face turning into a mix of pain and disbelief. "But I'm starting to.” 

“You don’t mean that.” He shook his head and you scoffed. 

“How would you know?” You looked up at him. “You’re the one who asked.” 

You paused. 

“This is why I regret it.” Your voice came out exhausted. “I can’t deal with you anymore. You’re so full of yourself, you don’t care about what others want.” 

He didn’t say anything, his eyes focusing on reading your face, looking for any sign that you could be lying.

“Then what exactly do you regret?” He spoke out, his eyes staring directly into yours. His face contradicted his actions. The way his eyes desperately looked between yours showed he was scared of the answer.

“I regret the time I wasted on you.” You started. “The memories we made. The laughs we shared. The songs we sang along to.” You kept listing before licking your lips, debating on saying the next part.

“I regret ever meeting you.”

Neither of you could even remember what the fight was about, it started with one thing and suddenly a ton of other sensitive subjects came to the surface. It was just the two of you shouting at each other about things that maybe didn’t even occur, but the fight came too far to stop.

“Let’s break up” You said loudly once he slung another insult at your head, about you never supporting the things he did in life like being in N.flying or drumming. The fight had lasted long enough, you had ended it with just three words.

It grew painfully quiet between you two, nothing was said for a few seconds, the tension replaced by sadness and maybe disbelief. Neither of you said something anymore, though it was Jaehyun who took the first step towards you, his hands extending to take yours.

Jaehyun was able to take your hands in his and hold them, it could be the last time for all that he knew. “Dance with me.” he requested, he started to lead you to dance to the silence that filled the room. The dance was slow, somewhat uncoordinated, others would have clearly seen how gloomy the movements appeared to be.

“I’m never letting you go” He whispered, the time of avoiding your eyes had been over, he directly looked into them. Instead of guilt, it was regret, the regret of ever making you think breaking up was the only option, regret as he completely buried your confidence with the words that he said. “I should apologize but I know it will never be enough, I’ll gain your trust again and help you to love me again”

You listened to every single word that left his lips, the apology which at the same time wasn’t one made you feel as if he was genuine about the promise he just made to you. “Kiss me” You whispered, in need to feel the love he promised to bring back from your side. He did as he was told, and you realized he didn’t need to learn you how to love him because you had never stopped loving him.

you bite your tongue as you try not to cry while jaehyun holds you close. you squeeze him tight, savoring the feeling of his arms around you.

"i'll miss you, dummy," you say quietly as he lets you out of his embrace. you quickly wipe the tears from your eyes, for you know if he were to see them, he'd make fun of you for crying and never let you live it down. you smile as you look up at him, and he tilts his head, looking at you admirably. you loved jaehyun, he was your best friend, and you were going off to college for the year, which was always a hard departure to make. he was your rock; you grew up together, you had become closer than ever.

"i have to tell you something before you go," jaehyun said softly, grabbing your hands. you guys held hands before, but never like the way he held yours in that moment. you wanted to cry again. "i really like you. more than a friend. and i'm sorry if that ruins things, but you deserve to know. it's not something i wanna keep to myself anymore."

your mouth opened slightly as if you were about to speak, but no words came out. you bit your lip, and jaehyun dropped your hands. "you don't have to say anything. just know that i love you, a lot."

you hugged him tight again. he slowly but surely hugged you back, and you kissed the area of his neck that you could reach. you felt his cheek swell against your head as he smiled to himself.

After a long day at work, three weeks of poorly repressed stress, and leaving the house late and on the brink of an argument with your fiancé, what you expected was a cold, empty house with a lonely, regretful feeling.

What you got, however, was said fiancé—the one and only Kim Jaehyun—waiting anxiously by the door for you, biting his nails while he leaned against the wall outside your apartment. 

You furrowed your brows. “Did you get locked out, or—?” you started, already reaching for your keys.

He held up a hand. “Before you say anything!” he said quickly, cutting you off. He dug around in his pocket, pulling out a lavender envelope with cute stickers plastered all over it, sealed with a heart blowing a kiss. “Please read this.” 

He looked almost a little shy, handing over the folded paper; a massive change from his usual bubbly personality. You couldn’t help but think you must’ve really hurt him this morning. 

You’d grumbled a lot of things you didn’t mean and you wouldn’t liked to apologize to him for it, but you knew he wouldn’t let you until you’d read whatever was in the envelope. 

You pried the flap open with your thumb, your palms getting a little sweaty. 

Inside, there was a letter. You felt silly for getting so nervous, as most envelopes contained letters, but things that had to do with Jaehyun always made your heart flutter, so you supposed it wasn’t that odd. 

You gave him a look before he urged you to read it. You sighed, going straight into it. 

“Hey, sweetheart,

it read.

Maybe you don’t want me to call you that right now, and that’s okay. I didn’t say it out loud, so I hope you can forgive me. I think you must be working pretty hard. You look tired.”

Instinctively, you went to rub your under-eyes, positive that there must’ve been dark-circles there, maybe some wrinkles tossed in. 

You heard him stifle a laugh. You looked up at him, but he just gestured for you to keep reading, trying to force his smile back down and swallow his addictive chuckles.

“Knew you’d do that.”

You rolled your eyes at his cheekiness that he managed to sneak in, even in writing. 

“I just wanna let you know, if you were lashing out because you’re really stressed or something, I understand. I don’t blame you. If it’s because of me, I also don’t blame you. In that situation, I would only blame myself.”

You wanted to rip up the paper and tell him that it wasn’t him at all, but you kept on reading. That small bit of pride that kept pulsating in your stomach forced you not to forgive him so easily, even though he totally deserved it.

It wasn’t his fault that you argued that morning, and you didn’t want him to feel like that. Yet, the mean part of you did. The selfish part. How you wished you could murder that bit of yourself. 

“Now, I know that you’ll forever chastise me, saying: ‘Honeyed words don’t fix everything!’, but I think I’ll test my limits, if that’s okay with you. That’s why I have compiled a short list of ten things that make me fall head-over-heels for you all over again, every single day.  Ten is really isn’t enough, but I wanted to keep it short so if you forgive me, I can hug you sooner than if I wrote down ALL of the reasons.” 

You almost chuckled, but you decided to keep it to yourself. 

It was a nice atmosphere for silence, a warm spring breeze blowing gently at your back and ruffling your hair. You could feel how desperately he wanted to push that hair gently out of your face, behind your ear, but he refrained. 

You appreciated that. 

“Reason #1: Your sleepy face in the morning

It’s super freakin’ cute, and you don’t even notice it. In the mirror, I sometimes watch you while you’re brushing your teeth (not creepy, I swear), and you always look like you’re about to fall back asleep. It makes me want to protect you forever and ever, like a weird, tired burrito.

Reason #2: Your unique sense of humor

It’s not that you’re not funny, really! It’s just that- you’re such an original, sometimes I need you to explain the genius that goes on within your brain. (Please don’t hit me. T-T)”

You smiled at that last bit.

“Reason #3: Your courage

You’re literally the strongest person I’ve ever met, and I’m not just saying that to be cheesy. Remember when your family was going through that tough time, or when they totally didn’t approve of me? Lots of people would’ve just taken their opportunity to walk away from that, but you didn’t. Even though it was hard, you stuck around and you worked it out until the very end. I think that makes you really gorgeous, sweetheart. Probably why I asked you to marry me. 

Reason #4: The way you kiss my fingertips

I’ve gotta say, I thought it was really weird when you first did it, but as time passed, it became one of my favorite things. I craved it, and when I didn’t get it, I threw an internal hissy-fit. Like- GIVE ME MY FINGER KISSES, WOMAN. It’s really special and I feel like it’s only for you and me, so I should treasure it more.

Reason #5: You drove me to the ER at 3 AM

You remember that, right? It was before we were even dating! I confessed to you in the car while I was dizzy and almost passing out, but luckily, after I woke up in a hospital bed, strapped up with wires and IVs, I still remembered. And you did, too. You accepted me. Thank you for accepting my weird, unromantic confession. It means a lot.

Reason #6: Making my birthday special every year

You never fail to surprise me with something awesome and thoughtful. It makes me feel like someone truly pays attention to the things I say. The things I like, the things I don’t, and the things that slip out of my mouth when I’m not paying attention. I swear, you know me better than I know myself...  I’ve almost cried at so many parties because of you. Do you know how not-manly that is? Speaking of not-manly!

Reason #7: I can sob openly around you

I don’t think you’ve ever judged me, to be honest. I used to think when I first started dating you, ‘Be a shoulder for her to lean on. Don’t crumble and be the pants of the relationship’. Turns out, I was more like the socks. You’re always there for me when I’m not doing well. You force me to eat when I get too skinny, you make me sleep when I’m overworking, and you assure me that it’s okay to cry around you. It’s because of you that I’ve become a crybaby. Sad movie? The tears are coming out. Happy ending? Oh my gosh! I’m so relieved! I better cry. Bad day? It’s okay to let it out, ‘cause I know you’re here to comfort me and make me feel less emasculated.

Reason #8: How much you believe in me

Even when I don’t believe in myself, you tell me how well I’m doing or how much you think I’ve improved, or even how much you love it when I do the most trivial of tasks. You think me folding the laundry and putting it away for you is the coolest thing on the planet, and that makes me want to do it more often, ‘cause you make me feel like a superhero. Your superhero, so it’s even more special. 

Reason #9: Your beauty

And I’m not talking about that outward stuff (though... you have that too), I’m talking about what’s on the inside. It’s your soul. It’s your happy heart that’s sometimes a little blue, but it always perks up again. It’s your intriguing mind and thoughts, and it’s your individual charm that no one else could ever hope to live up to. It’s your passion for your dreams, it’s your patience for mine, it’s your generosity, and it’s your wisdom. It’s everything that is you, and it’s beautiful. 

Reason #10: When I catch you looking at me then you smile and look away~

This is probably the most important and meaningful thing to me, weirdly enough. It makes me feel like you love me as much as I love you. It feels like you have me on your mind and you can’t help but seek me out. It feels like you care about me to the extent that you’re just like, ‘Huh... Where’s Jaehyun?’, and then when you find me, you smile. Not because I smile at you and you return it, but just because I make you smile. At least, I think I do. It hurts my heart in a really good way. You look so shy, yet confident, and you make me feel adored. I don’t deserve you, I don’t think. Probably never will, but I’m still so glad that you put up with me.

So! With all that being said, do you still wanna marry me? ‘Cause I still love you, sweetheart.”

What a strange, curious thing. You were crying. 

Tears were slipping down your cheeks, chin and nose, all soaking the paper and making it crinkly and weak. You started choking back sobs. 

Jaehyun heard you—of course—but he still didn’t overstep the boundaries. He waited for your green-light, looking at you with those concerned puppy-eyes.

“Oh, for goodness sake,” you coughed out, rolling your teary eyes. You sniffled loudly and wiped your nose with your sleeve. You held your arms out widely, dropping the paper and envelope to the ground. “Hug me already!” 

Within seconds, he came rushing over to you, picking you up and wrapping your legs around his waist. He always held you like this; not to prove how strong he was, just to have you close as possible. 

“You still like me?” he asked softly, muffled by your collarbone.

You shook your head, leaning forward. “Nope,” you said. You pushed his bangs up, kissing his forehead. “I still love you.”

Masterlist

A/N: This is my new masterlist. I was going to just make a second masterlist but then I thought it would be a great idea to organize all my works and make tiny masterlists within this giant masterlist. So for example I have a masterlist linked in here just for my vav works titled “VAV Masterlist” depending on how much I’ve written for a certain group determines if they get their own masterlist. If there’s not a lot of pieces for a group or idol those pieces will be at the bottom. Also if I think I plan on writing for more of a certain group or idol they will get their own masterlist as well. The “Odds and Ends Masterlist” is for any edits I’ve made that aren’t moodboards or pieces that aren’t fanfics.

At the time I am putting this up unfortunately it is not complete as there are plenty of drafts that are not done. When I finish them they will be linked in the masterlist. Some things might change, I might decide  don’t want to continue to write on something so I will delete it from the list, the ones that don’t have links yet. Those I either have not started of have not finished. Another problem some links don’t exist when you click on them or they were there and then magically disappeared so I have to search for them again and reposted those :( I just checked my “odds and ends masterlist” and apparently that url does not exist so I will get it fixed it will just be awhile. I have to constantly go back and forth between desktop and mobile to find things and I’m just really so at trying to update the masterlist. Hoping I can get the links and things all fingered out and then I can just worry about writing the fics.

ten strummed the guitar listlessly, energy drained from all the tears he had shed.

he couldn't really differentiate anymore between being in pain and not being in pain.

it had consumed him greatly, to the extent he wanted to turn into dust.

his now dry eyes fell on the picture of the two of you, which had been taken just a few days back.

but it felt like eons ago.

everything had been so perfect, but what had gone wrong?

he tried to remember his life before he had met you but the alcohol in his system was making it difficult to think rationally.

his eyes flickered on to some even more older photos of both of you had taken.

his eyes began watering once more as the memories of his precious relationship with you flooded back into his mind.

yes. he remembered now how he had met you.

he was a nobody. he had lost everything. his family, his friends, his belongings.

there was only one solution to his problem.

dying.

besides, it wasn't like anyone would miss him.

in his alcohol-addled brain, that seemed to be the only option left.

but he still had some pride left. the little ego, that he was a fine man still didn't want to die with him that easily.

so he decided to go down with a bang.

what he didn't expect was for someone to call an ambulance, help him out of his car which had crashed on a deserted road, take him to the hospital and be with him till he opened his eyes.

and when he opened his eyes, he didn't see you.

no. ten lee saw an angel. a saviour. someone who finally cared about a wasted boy's existence.

and you nursed him back to health.

you nursed him with love and care. and you nursed his dreams and hopes too.

soon you were off on to your first date in a little art museum he had found.

it had been the best day of his life. his cheeks had been hurting from smiling.

but now his heart hurt from remembering your silly little joke and your pretty smile and the way you blushed when he leaned in for a peck.

and so it went on, your lives building up slowly on each other, made up of every emotion.

sometimes there was laughter, sometimes there were tears. but at the end of the day, there was love for each other.

he cherished you beyond words. you were after all the reason he was alive.

the love of his life.

the reason he could continue his dreams.

and he was the man anyone could wish for.

true, he was scarred but you were willing to heal him.

in your eyes, he was perfect in every way possible.

his flaws were his grace. his perfection was art.

to you, he was a fallen angel meant to be loved and to him, you were his saviour angel.

and together both of you were heaven, meant to be in each other's arms and love, lives entwined by the divine fate.

but fate cut the thread short when death decided it was time to go.

ten wished he had been there.

ten wished he wasn't in his art studio, miles away from your crash.

ten wished he was there for you when your car crashed, just like you had been when he crashed.

but he was too late.

and just as the fates had wished, you were gone.

away from his embrace, away from his love.

he felt the emptiness draw again as he looked at the song he had written.

it started out with his helplessness with the line, "i may lose my way and wander but in the end i found you."

and ended with the line where he had to let go, "fly away petals. don't let me think of you. bloom by the edge of the cliff and dance for me

and so he let you go, like a flower.
