Taking your first breath of fresh air in what feels like forever, you look around the gray stone landscape. Your heart bleeds for the beautifully blossoming lives they have destroyed to make this horrid thing. There’s a large number of metal flying machines sitting on the ground while sky people run around doing something. The sound is so loud it hurts your ears, but the demon is leading Spider and you to one of them, their big circular wings turning quickly around and around.
“Wo-ho, hold on there, hotshot,” The demon calls when Spiderjumps up into the metal flying machine, aiming one of its big weapons around. In one long step, the demon is pulling your son away from the weapon, sitting him down on a thin metal bench going through the middle of the machine.
“Now you listen up, sweetheart. There’s a tracker built into your bracelet, into your son’s mask,” The demon shouts over the loud noise as he taps a long finger against Spider’s air mask.
“When we hit the ground,” He starts, moving his stern gaze to you before continuing,” and you take off,” The demon almost smirks before looking at your son again, his big hand dwarfing Spider’s bicep. “I’ll have you back in two minutes and I’ll give you an old-school ass whipping, understood? Understood?!”
“Yes, Sir,” Spider answers, rolling his eyes just as you snarl at the demon for once again threatening your son.
“Alright, alright…” He lets go of Spider immediately, ears flat against his skull as he holds his hands up again before stepping away.
Following his movements, you watch as the demon slaps his hand against the see-through metal of the flying machine, giving the sky person behind it some kind of command with his hands, before squatting down before you. His long arm is holding onto the side as the metal flying machine lifts from the ground, its noise increasing, making your sensitive ears ring. Almost immediately after leaving the barren circle, you can hear Hawnu call for you, his big wings flapping in the distance as he follows. Seeing the warrior behind the weapon twitch before aiming it at Hawnu, you reach out to put your hand on his shoulder, shaking your head as he turns to look at you.
“He is Hawnu, he will not hurt you,” You offer him, hoping it will be enough for him to stop. Fighting them all so far above the ground, with Spider in the small open space, was not optimal, but if they hurt Hawnu, you would show them just how far a bond between an Ikran and a Na’vi went.
“Colonel,” The warrior by the weapon turns to look at the demon, but the demon’s eyes are pierced on Hawnu.
Waving his warrior away, the demon watches as Hawnu’s powerful wings spread wider to follow their speed. He makes a beautiful figure where he flies in the distance, his dark green frame imposing on the bright skies, his golden spots glittering as his wings take him forward. You can’t help but share the demon’s fascination as you watch him, feeling your heart soar with happiness as you silently thank him once more for having chosen you.
“Hawnu,” The demon mutters, as if tasting the name on his lips, “It’s like a dragon, ain’t it sweetheart?”
“I do not know what this dragon is. He is Ikran, a mighty predator,” You say proudly, smiling as you look back at Hawnu.
“Wait, wait, hold on,” His small eyes are staring back at you this time, his brows furrowing before continuing, “Is it a Haw-noy or an I-kan?”
“His name is Hawnu,” You say slowly, hoping that the demon could follow your words, “Hawnu is Ikran,”
Humming, the demon nods slowly, his furrowed brows softening again before he turns his head to stare at Hawnu once more.
“How uh - How does one come by one of these Ik-ans?” The demon has fully turned to you, his back against the opening, only holding onto the side.
It would be so easy to just kick him out of the flying metal machine they were in. Hawnu would catch you mid-air, you were confident about that. Avoiding the deadly weapons would be the biggest challenge though. You had already witnessed how fast the small balls were, how they shattered on impact to deal the biggest possible damage. Still, when you looked at the demon you could see something deep within him, something that made you hesitate. His small eyes were blown wide, his lips slightly parted, his tail swishing excitedly, and his ears… The demon’s ears were trained on you, wide and pointed straight up towards you. His curiosity was all but dripping off of him, oozing like the warriors on a particularly humid and hot day.
“Ikran,” You sigh, before slowly pronouncing the word for him.
“Ik-ran,” He eventually landed on, the word slow and chopped, but you deemed it well enough.
“To become Ikran Makto is - What is the word… Iknimaya, ” You fumble, trying to remember the English phrasing. In the end, you end up looking at your son, silently asking for help with translating what Iknimaya was.
“It’s a rite of passage for Na’vi warriors,” Spider offers, smiling up at you once the demon falls silent, deep in thought.
“To become warrior, you have tests you must pass. To choose Ikran, you walk among them until you find the one. If it is the right one, it will try to kill you,” You immediately notice how the demon’s face lights up. His entire body seems to buzz with energy as a smirk slowly spreads across his face.
“Outstanding…” The demon drawls, the smirk on his face electrifying as his eyes stare deep within you. It makes your tail thrash wildly behind you, accidentally smacking the female warrior behind you.
You can hear her chuckle behind you before whispering something to the warrior beside her, making him turn his head before joining her chuckling. Had it not been for the captivating yellow eyes staring at you would have turned around and smacked them both. But as it were, you couldn’t look away from the demon, watching as the smirk slowly slipped from his face, replaced with an expression of confusion instead.
“You ain’t a warrior, sweetcheeks. How come you have an Ik-ran?” The demon is spot on and it annoys you to no extent.
“It is different,” You offer, not wanting to remember how you had met Hawnu or how you had created tsaheylu all those years ago. Pinning your ears to your skull, you break eye contact with the demon, feeling how your beautiful, caring son sat closer to you, his small hand holding onto your arm in an attempt at comforting you.
“Alright, alright - I won’t pry,” He surprises you by backing away, his ears twitching, giving away his burning curiosity.
You can still see he wants to ask, the need to know almost crippling him, but in a show of great restraint, he turns around again, looking out at the beautiful world the Great Mother had created. You rode for a short while longer until the metal flying machine started to drop, the forest coming closer and closer. The warriors threw thick ropes down to the ground, checking their weapons before looking at the demon expectantly.
“Listen up, buttercup,” The demon starts, addressing you as he takes a hold of the rope he had just thrown over the side of the machine. “To get down, you need to do exactly what I tell you to.”
He then went into a long explanation of how to hold your feet and hands, talking about burns or falling too fast. You didn’t understand the point of the rope when you were so close to the ground. Sighing deeply, you looked at your son, watching as he got ready to climb on your back like you had done so many times before. Crouching to the opening of the machine, you watched as the demon lifted the rope for you to take, but you stepped past him and jumped off of the hovering machine. It wasn’t that high anyway.
From above you could hear shouts and cursing, a commotion happening in the small space. Landing gracefully, you take a step back, expecting the warrior to follow you. Instead, you see them scramble ungracefully over the opening before lowering themselves on the rope with their feet. The bafflement you felt was unlike anything. You knew that sky people had a thing for impractical choices, but this…
“Whatcha think you’re doing?” The demon steps up to you, grabbing your arm hard as he growls, anger rolling off of him.
Hissing at him, you move to slap his arm away, but in mid-air he grabs that one too, holding painfully hard over your white cloth bindings. The way he holds you burns as the cloth turns rough against your skin. It’s a reflex when you do it, one you’re completely helpless to stop yourself from executing when your son hisses in fear from your back. Before you know it’s happening your knee shoots up hard, connecting between the demon’s thighs audibly. There’s a loud ‘oof’ before the demon goes down, crumbling to the ground with his hands between his thighs.
The warriors around him wince sympathetically, but no one approaches. For long moments the demon lays crumbled on the ground, rocking back and forth, until he suddenly stops. Groaning and hissing loudly, he unsteadily gets to his long legs once more, taking a step back before glowering at you. He doesn’t approach, however, just stands there, breathing hard. His hands are still cupped between his legs, but if looks could kill, you were certain that you already would be dead.
“Explain,” He growls, trying his best to straighten up, but failing miserably.
“What do I explain?” You ask, not really getting what he’s so mad about.
“Explain,” The demon raises his voice angrily before visibly taking a deep breath to calm down again, “why you jumped out of a hovering helicopter with Spider on your back when I specifically told you how to safely lower yourself with the rope?”
“It was not very far over the ground,” The nonchalant way you gave your reply seemed to annoy him even more, but before he could continue, Spider stood up behind your shoulder.
“We’ve jumped from higher places plenty of times before, asshole” Spider sneers behind your shoulder, his arms around your neck tightening, revealing his bravado.
“Na’vi jumps high every day, not short like sky people,”  It comes out a bit more aggressive than you wanted to, but when the demon sucks on his teeth, something inside of you flips with delight.
“Well, alright then, sweetheart.” The demon drawls, resting his long hands on his hips, “Teach us,”
Huffing at the ridiculous prospect of teaching these people anything, you roll your eyes before crossing your arms over your chest. Cocking your hip out, you stare at the demon, challenging him to make the first move. Looking into his small yellow eyes, you stand there, letting the sound of Eywa’s children give you strength to withstand the demon’s silent threats. You don’t buckle when he spreads his legs and crosses his own long arms across his too-wide chest, and you don’t buckle when he growls angrily, face furrowed in annoyance. Eventually, Spider jumps down from your back, too bored to hold on any longer. You direct your ears in his direction, keeping an eye on him as he moves around before finally settling on a fallen tree just behind the demon.
“Fine!” You’re actually surprised that the demon gave up. Shooting his arms up in the air again, he growls something under his breath as he turns to his warriors.
Smirking to yourself, you lift your head defiantly when the demon looks back at you. Looking at the warrior beside him, you notice how he grins at you, as if proud that you dared challenge him.
“Lyle,” The demon snaps his fingers, getting the man’s attention before he leans in to whisper something to him. The man nods before taking out a device, much like one of the ones your Olo’eyktan uses before and after raids.
“The deal was to teach us the Na’vi way, buttercup,” He starts, turning towards you with that deadly smile of his. It doesn’t reach his eyes. “I can’t protect you if you don’t cooperate.”
“And I can not teach when you do not want to learn,” Flattening your ears against your skull, you hiss angrily back at him.
“I want to learn, sweetcheeks,” The demon slowly walks toward you, long hands still resting on his hips, “In fact, we all want to learn. Don’t we guys and girls?”
You listen to the group grumble and mumble something similar to an agreement, but the lack of soul is deafening in the busy forest. There’s life flying around you, plants opening and closing. There’s just so much happening at once, yet, when you look at the warriors surrounding the demon, you see no recognition of any kind for the Great Mother’s children.
“Remove your weapons, you will not need them,” You start, rolling your eyes as you’re immediately met with resistance.
“Now listen here, sweetcheeks, that ain’t gonna happen,” The demon steps forward to tell you.
“They will hurt your balance,” You cross your arms, raising an eyebrow at him.
“Not gonna happen,” He crosses his own arms over his chest, leveling you with a harsh stare.
“Do as you please, skxawng,” You sneer back at him before reaching your hand out to Spider, waiting for him to take it.
“Where do you think you’re going, missy,” The demon calls after you, growling with annoyance as you just keep on walking, “Lyle,”
Smiling down at Spider, you notice the way he looks up at you. You both share a knowing look when the warrior, Lyle, walks up behind you. Turning your head, you smile at him, noticing how he halts for just a moment before continuing to follow after you. The demon’s frustration can be felt through the distance between you as he angrily follows, although a bit stiffly, behind the group. Walking a bit further into the forest, you find what you’re looking for.
In the distance, you can smell the sweet, thick scent of forest water, and sure enough, as you walk through a small clearing, a small area with a waterfall opens up. Grinning down at your son, you can see his eyes lighting up with joy, his smile bright as he looks up at you. Behind you, a collection of awe and whistles sounds, and for once, the demon keeps quiet. Turning around, you notice how his eyes have grown big, his ears twitching in attention, and his tail swishing lazily behind him. He wears his emotions for all to see, unable to hide his curiosity or the way he finds beauty in the Great Mother’s creations. Like before, you find that small sliver of hope that there’s something deep within him that wants to break out.
“You need to learn balance,” You state, watching as they look at each other before chuckling.
“Sweetheart, we already know how to keep our balance,” The demon drawls, his grin loose and charming.
“Of course, you do,” You smile sweetly back at him before turning, looking around the water's edges for a fallen tree.
Finding one almost immediately, you’re pleased to find that it has some thickness to its trunk. Walking over to it, you run your fingers over the weary life of the old tree, silently thanking it for its hard work and wishing it well in its new journey. Although the tree had fallen a long time ago, you were always taught to send a prayer for what might help you, before using it. Rolling the tree over, you were even happier to see that the bottom was slick. It would be perfect.
“Let me help you out, darling,” The demon drawls from behind you.
Snapping your head around, you notice how he flinches, his hands shooting to cup between his thighs. Raising an eyebrow, you step closer, watching with delight how he takes a step back. Thrilled at the new discovery, you step aside.
“You need to say prayer, to thank the tree for its help,” The demon frowns down at you, his hands going to his hips once more.
“It’s dead,” He drawls lazily, looking as unimpressed as he sounded.
“It has given life to many through its years, made shelter and food for more. Show gratitude, demon,” You can’t help the anger that leaves you.
“Alright, calm down, sweetcheeks,” He’s holding his hands up again in that annoying manner of his, his ears flat against his skull again, “I’ll pray to your dead forest friend, so ease down,”
You scowl as he walks over to the tree, looking around at his warriors before sighing and going down to his knees. He looks over at you, waiting for instructions. A part of you wants to let him sit and wait, test his patience and willingness to learn, but a bigger part of you wants to see what teaching him the way of Eywa will lead to. The Great Mother would not have sent your son to you, nor let you cross paths with his father if she didn’t have a plan. You had to trust that Eywa had sent this Miles Quaritch of planet Earth to you for a reason - and hopefully, for the future of Pandora, despite his heinous actions against the Great Mother’s children.
Walking over to him, you kneel beside him, resting your hand on the trunk of the tree. Looking up at him, you wait for him to copy you, but instead, he just stares at you blankly. Rolling your eyes, you reach out to grab his hand, placing it on the trunk beside yours. Again, you notice how warm his skin is beneath your fingers, his wrist strong and solid where you hold onto it.
“Feel it,” You say, looking up at him again, “What do you feel?”
“Nothing?” He sounds as stupid as he looks.
With your fingers around his wrist, you felt the way his pulse jumped when you placed his long hand on the tree surface. You know he’s not telling you the truth when he denies feeling anything. Scowling at him, you push his hand away as if it had burned you, getting to your knees you start walking away when those long, strong fingers wrap around your wrist once more. Quickly turning around, you hiss at him while pulling your hand away. At the same time, he seems to remember what happened only a short while ago and lets go of you, sitting back down on his knees again, his stupid hands raised once more.
“Easy, easy, sweetness,” The demon drawls, his voice strained - frustrated, “We good?”
“You are impatient like baby,” You start, anger coursing through your body, “Afraid to show emotions as if you know you are lesser,”
“Now hold on, darling,” He gets to his feet again, stepping close enough to tower over you, “I don’t have a superiority complex,”
“Your blood jumped, yet you say you did not feel anything,” You deadpan, watching his eyes widen before narrowing.
“Pulse, mom,” You hear Spider mumble behind you.
You’re left scowling at each other for long moments, the demon clenching his jaws as his brows almost meet in the middle. He looks furious… until he doesn’t. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and suddenly, his anger melts away, as if it was never there to begin with. Opening his eyes, the sharpness in them pierced right through you. It takes your breath away.
“It felt like a small current - as if it was alive,” The demon admits in the end, eyes still staring straight into yours.
Nodding, you break eye contact, looking over to the other warriors, you gesture for them to do the same. Watching as they all gather around you, kneeling to the soft ground, laying their hands on the tree, you immediately notice their ears standing on attention, eyes wide, as they look down at their hand. The female and the one called Lyle lift their hand and try again, their tails stiff behind them at attention.
“Thank you,” You whisper to the demon, his head snapping to yours immediately in surprise.
“What do you feel?” You ask the group, watching as they all hesitate, looking at the demon and each other.
“It feels electric,” A warrior with black things in front of his face offers carefully, voice soft.
“Feels like someone’s stroking my palm,” Lyle continues, and just like that, the rest of the group follows.
It brings a bright smile to your lips. You knew the surprise would wear off, but for right now, you found joy in the way their faces lighted up with joy over something new. Looking over at Spider, you find that your son is smiling widely at the all. Nodding your head, you watch as he moves toward you, touching the tree with both hands.
“Why don’t you show them how it’s done, my son?” You cup his head, leaning in to give him a kiss on his temple before letting him start the prayer of gratitude.
Leaning back, you watch as he slowly walks them through it, pronouncing each word slowly, waiting for them all to parrot it back to him before continuing. Your heart soars as pride rushes through you. Spider had grown to become a fine young man. As they repeat the prayer, however, you notice that the demon struggles to follow the others, his pronunciation much slower and more staccato than the others. You take notice of it for another time. Maybe, if you could get him alone, you could help him out with the Na’vi language. For now, you watched as they finished up, eyes wide and smiles loose as they looked at their hands resting on the tree.
Getting up, you wait for the others before you instruct them to roll the fallen tree into the water. It would serve a great training purpose for the warriors and the demon, and when you had finished, the water creatures would find use for it still. It was the way of Eywa, where energy was only borrowed. Smiling to yourself you watched as the warriors’ tails flicked with confusion about what the tree was doing in the water. Instead of addressing their confusion, you walked forward and into the water before gracefully climbing up onto the tree.
“I’m not getting into that,” The female warrior huffed, crossing her strong arms over her chest.
“Try again,” The demon growled, not even sparing her a look.
“Fat chance,” She snorted back, before hastily adding a mumbled, “Sir,”
Sighing deeply, the demon stepped into the water, his weird clothing making obscene sounds before being submerged in water. Getting onto the log, however, proved to be a difficult task. As you balanced on the tree, the demon jumped ungracefully up and down, eventually hoisting himself up on the wet log. On shaky legs, he tried to stand, the weird foot armor and his heavy weapons throwing his balance off enough for him to plop straight back into the water once more.
Again and again, he tried his anger building each time he fell. Eventually, you took pity on him. Walking across the log to where he stood, you stepped into the water once more, a gentle hand on his solid back as you led him back to land. Once there, the demon sits down on the ground, his arms resting over his knees as he breathes deeply. Giving him time to catch his breath, you got down to a crouch before him and smiled.
“I told you the weapons would hurt your balance,” He does not look impressed when he looks up from the circle he’s created with his arms resting over his knees.
Huffing an annoyed sigh, he pulls the weapon over his head and unbuckles all the gear around his hips and thighs. Looking up at you in challenge, he dares you to comment on being right. Instead, you look at the others, watching as he waves his hand in their direction, and just like that, the rest of the weapons hit the ground too.
“Happy now?” He grounds out, meeting your eyes again.
“The feet armor needs to go too,” You grin at him, watching as his eyes go comically large. With his wet hair plastered to his forehead, he almost looks endearing where he sits.
“My boots?” He asks, voice hard, distrusting.
“Yes,” You counter, looking down at the weird armor. “You can not feel your ground,”
“Well, I don’t know if I wanna feel this shit,” He sneers back as if a scolded child, immature and unreasonable.
Rolling your eyes, you reach forward to pull at one of the huge boots off of the demon. You’re surprised when the boots don’t move. Instead, you get kicked back, and just like that you’re on top of the demon, locking him down once more, your foot under his chin, pressing his head down to the ground as you try to figure out how to remove the boots. The demon hisses and twists, struggling to get out of your hold. You get a knee to your face and although it hurts, you don’t stop. Getting one of the boots off, you throw it at his face. His head pops up as best as he can manage with your foot holding him down, his eyes finding yours as he sits threats about what he’s going to do with you.
Pulling the last boots off, you quickly get to your feet, crouching low as you hiss at him. It’s not a second too late as the demon quickly follows, his massive chest building the growl that escapes his clenched teeth. Straightening, he wipes the mud from the left side of his face before walking toward you. You throw the boots in your hand at his head, hitting his forehead and stopping him dead in his stalk toward you. His eyes are wide and his face blank for all of two seconds before the growl intensifies and he narrows his eyes. You can hear his heavy footsteps as they quickly follow behind you, splashing into the water as you jump back up on the log, quickly walking to the end of it before turning to face him, a smug look on your face as he moves closer.
“You are welcome,” You say, smiling at him when he’s in front of you, reaching for your arm once more.
“What?” The demon growls dangerously, but then it seems to dawn on him where he is.
Shouts from the bank have obviously penetrated his thick skull as his face mellows out. You watch as he looks down at his feet, instantly losing his balance. Reaching out to support him, you laugh as his sharp yellow finds yours. Waiting until he has his balance back, you let go of his big arms, watching as he slowly backs up on the log, arms spread out to keep his balance.
“Turn back,” You smile at his obvious pride.
The turn doesn’t happen, however. Once one of his feet left the log, the other slipped making him fall on his ass before slipping backward into the water, head first. Crouching down on the log, you wait for him to emerge before you slap the back of his head.
“Don’t slap me,” The demon hisses, but you ignore him and his childish antics.
“Again,” You demand of him, watching as he grumbles before hoisting himself back up, getting into position once more.
“You’re enjoying this too much,” He snarks back at you, the wet locks of his short hair plastered to his forehead.
“We are,” You smile at him, watching as his sour mood darkens when he looks around at his warriors grinning widely.
The eclipse nears by the time everyone has tried their luck on the log. It’s become a sort of game between them as they challenge each other, pulling and kicking each other’s legs out from under them while on the log. But with the eclipse nearing, you tell them to get ready to move back. Looking up, you gauge that you have enough time to clean Spider’s hair. Gathering some plants, you quickly mash them together into a fine paste before calling your son over.
Getting into the water, he lets you clean his soft, light hair. It’s one of your favorite things to do, though one that doesn’t happen as often as you would like it to, your son having grown too old, yet, not old enough. Taking as much time as you can allow yourself, you let your fingers run through the thick strands, gently massaging his head. Before you want to let him go, you have to ask him to rinse off in the waterfall.
Turning back toward the bank, you find sharp yellow eyes staring at you, a gentle expression on his hard face. Breaking eye contact with him, you walk out of the water, stopping in a spot of sunlight as you wait for Spider to finish up.
“He’s grown into a fine young man,” A deep raspy voice mumbles from behind you, sending chills down your spine and making your skin erupt with goosebumps.
It’s a praise. You know it is as you watch the demon walk past you to his unit, a pleased look on his face. The warriors are laughing and chatting idly, like young adults themselves. Although you know they’re not, you can’t help but compare them to children who had to grow up too fast, with no constant love and support from people who loved them. Feeling your heart ache, you look back in time to see Spider walk out of the water, the smile on his face slowly slipping as he takes notice of your worries. Your son hugs you tightly once he reaches you and you’re unable to hide your smile as you hug him back.
“Come on, mom,” Spider pulls at your arm, dragging you toward the unit and the demon.
You guess all good things had to come to an end, but as you look at your son’s arm dragging you with him, his excitement still burning hot from the day, you can’t help but follow willingly. The demon looks at you with sharp eyes as you approach them, no doubt wondering if you were going to try to run for it. Looking down at the bracelet on your wrist, you wonder how you would be able to get it off. It was the least of your problems if you couldn’t get Spider a new mask without this tracking thing in it.
Leading the group through the forest, you lead them back to where the helicopter dropped you off. You can already hear it closing in on your location. You notice that none of the warriors have put their boots on again, the offending things hanging from their shoulders. Mansk’s feet are pawing at the ground, no doubt taking with him the feeling of Eywa’s blessings for as long as he could. On the other side, Z-Dog is cutting her leg clothing above her knees, no doubt trying to feel more of Eywa. Smiling to yourself, you look up into sharp yellow eyes once more.
“Spider, get on your mama’s back,” The demon drawls gently just before the helicopter comes to a stop over you.
“Sweetheart, imma need you to hold on real tight,” He continues just as ropes are thrown down from the hovering helicopter. There are hooks of some kind that attach to the unit’s belts.
Spider crawls up on your back again, his wet hair cold against your back as he clings to you. The demon steps closer, a smirk on his lips as he bends to wrap his strong arms under your ass, effortlessly lifting your son and you up. Instinctively, your legs wrap around his waist to hold on, your arms wounding around his neck. It’s a very intimate position, to the demon this close to your body when not fighting, but your mind gets no time to worry about it as suddenly, you’re all being hoisted through the air, quickly approaching the helicopter opening. It’s the most horrid thing you have ever done in your life. Feeling yourself getting dragged up with a thin rope, you’re unable to help your body from clutching onto the demon, holding tight.
“You can let go now, sweetheart,” The demon drawls, his big hand spread on your bare back, supporting you against his body, “Not that I’m complaining,”
The unit chuckles and whistles, but it’s only Spider’s snapped “Hey!” that pulls you out of your headspace. You’re horrified to find that you’re sitting in the demon’s lap, clutching onto him as you fly over the forest on your way back to the base. Pushing yourself off of the demon’s lap, you stumble, falling hard on your ass. Had it not been for the demon’s firm grip around your wrist, you would have tumbled out of the helicopter opening. You had no doubt that Hawnu would come flying, snatching you up, but the fact that the demon didn’t let you fall astonished you.
“Careful there, buttercup,” The demon drawls, a charming grin spreading on his face as his eyes meet yours once more.
Groaning, Spider pulls you between his legs, scowling at his - scowling at the demon. His small hands around your neck ground you enough to snap free of those yellow eyes that have kept you prisoner for the past few minutes. Holding onto your son’s legs, you let the ouch surface of the helicopter pull your resolve together. You weren’t sure what was happening, but you knew one thing for sure, this thing between you, no matter what it was, would never happen as long as you lived. Feeling eyes on you, you turn to see Lyle grinning at you before looking up at the demon. Following his line of sight you notice how he’s staring at Spider, a soft almost unguarded look on his face. Closing your eyes, you prayed for what felt like the tenth time today, that Eywa was right about this guy.

Reactions to Tsunami Creator's Chapter 186
TL;DR - Cale orders GED ships to get out of the sea. Blood Demon scares Raon. Blood Demon's pseudo-Dragon Fear versus Cale's Dominating Aura.
Aipotu's Trap
Okay, so removing the core from the array formation activated some sort of trap prepared by the Aipotu dragons. What that trap is remains to be seen. The "crying" word was used again, but I'm slowly getting convinced that it was just something poetic, like "the sky is crying" and not the cries of some being.
Blood Demon's Pseudo-Dragon Fear
Cale headed back after entrusting the priestesses to Fist King. And the moment they met Blood Demon, Raon curls up with his wings in fear! 😮 Oh dear... Cale immediately hugs and strokes Raon to soothe him, feeling angry that something made Raon scared. Raon eventually recovers from it, but still hides behind Cale.
And then we get a battle between the pseudo Dragon Fear and DA. Of course, our DA easily wins! He even says "I haven't tried my best yet?" 🤣🤣🤣 Blood Demon experienced fear for the first time. It was also funny how she and DA were like having a bluffing competition. And Blood Demon's thought of "That skinny man is a monster." 😂
So why is it pseudo Dragon Fear? It was explained that Blood Demon had killed hundreds of thousands of people, and their life energy was what everyone felt scared of. And Blood Demon used that to imitate a dragon. The Blue Bloods owed the Purple Bloods because of that core, but she had plans to rebel and kill the dragons too. I guess she didn't like that the Blue Bloods were "subordinate" to the Purple Bloods?
Ending Remarks
It seems like the battle against Blood Demon will be concluded next chapter. CH and Sui looked exhausted, but they were still ready to fight. As for CJS, he got blasted away by Blood Demon. AGAIN. Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣
And RIDI released the ebooks of volumes 6-9 today, spanning chapters 118-200 of Part 1. It costs 12,960 won again like last time, of course, with the limited time discounts.
With this, the eBooks have already surpassed the physical books published years ago. There aren't any freebies this time like the exclusive author Q&A. Just wallpaper images of Cale and CH that you can download. Those images are the images in the posters that were released together with the physical books, so it's nothing new.
As for the next volumes, perhaps we can expect them next month. The first set of eBooks was released on August 21, and the second set was released today, September 15, with a 3 and a half weeks difference. So we can expect the third set around the 2nd to 3rd weeks of October.

“Levy?” Cana shook her head, her glassy eyes turning back to the barrel she had been clutching since she strolled into the guild just after dawn. “I haven’t seen her all day. I didn’t see her come back to Fairy Hills last night either.”
Gajeel leaned against the bar, steely eyes peering over the expanse of the guildhall. Only a week had passed since the news of Titania and Salamander’s deaths, along with that silly blue cat of his. Things were far from normal at the Fairy Tail guild, but slowly people were beginning to show up for meal times and try to make conversation.
Some people, like Gray and Lucy, hadn’t been seen since the funeral. Gajeel hadn’t been too concerned about them - they had lost their teammates after all - but Levy had always been present. So, it bothered him that she had suddenly disappeared.
Cana shrugged. “She’s been reading books pretty avidly lately, more so than usual anyways. Maybe check out the library?”
Gajeel grumbled a ‘thanks' before pushing off the bar and finding his way to the Fairy Tail library housed beneath the guild. He had never stepped foot inside the book repository. He never had a need to. So it took him a while to search through the maze of shelves.
He found Levy near the back of the library sitting on the floor with a dozen books spread around her. She sat with her knees tucked beneath her, wind-reader glasses resting on the bridge of her nose, and hair pulled back by a headband. It was hard to tell in the dim light, but with Gajeel’s sharpened sight, he could see the bags forming under her eyes. She wasn’t destroyed, but she was getting there.
“Hey, Shrimp,” he called out to grab her attention.
Her brown eyes continued to quickly shift over the words on the page, completely zoned in on whatever had captured her attention.
He crouched down, leaning his arms against his thighs. “Levy.”
She startled, shooting her tired gaze to his. When she realized who he was, she relaxed, a breath of relief passing her lips. “Gajeel. What are you doing down here?”
“Came lookin’ for ya. Cana said she didn’t see you come home last night.”
“Yeah, I was out late and I left pretty early this morning. Wanted to get some reading done.” She marked the page in her book and slipped off her glasses, rubbing her thumb and forefinger over tired eyes. Wisps of stray blue hair framed her face as she smiled up at him.
He watched her carefully, taking note of how lifeless her peppy personality had become. “Your smile isn’t as bright as it used to be,” he off-handedly commented.
Pink dusted her cheeks. “O-Oh, is it now?” She chuckled nervously before shrugging and tilting her head. “Just give me a little while to be said. Someday soon, I promise to come back brighter than ever!” She pumped her fist in the air to emphasize her words.
Nothing could ever scare Gajeel more than the look in her eyes right then - that false bravado, the courageous face she was putting on. But her eyes told it all. Levy was slowly dying inside from the grief, and it terrified him.
The iron-dragon slayer cleared his throat, glancing over the mountain of books she had surrounded herself with. Majority of them were in languages he couldn’t name, but the ones he could make out had the words ‘demons’ and ‘purgatory’ in them. “Uh, what’re you reading about?”
“Well,” she started sheepishly, poking her index fingers together and peering up at him with a hesitant expression - almost like a child waiting to be scolded. He raised a brow, prompting her to continue. “I, uh, I’m researching the demons that attacked Team Natsu.”
He narrowed his eyes. “You serious? Those demons are long gone.” He scoffed and stood up. “Whoever did this will still be out there after we get our feet back under us.”
Pursing her lips, Levy climbed to her feet beside him and shook her head. “I know that,” she murmured, clasping her hands in front of her and looking up at him with determination. “But if I stopped, if I gave up for now, I wouldn’t have anything left driving me forward and grief would consume me.” She released a shuddering breath, her eyes misty as she glanced away. “I-I can’t fix anyone’s pain. I can’t bring Natsu, Erza, or Happy back. I can’t piece together whatever happiness we have left. But this…” She turned and gestured to the towers of books. “Finding the people who did this, no matter how small of a chance - this is something I can do.”
He studied her closely. For as long as Gajeel had known her, Levy had never given up. Not when she fought to forgive him after he brutally attacked her. Not during the battle of Fairy Tail when she rewrote Freed’s spell and released him and Natsu to take on Laxus. Not when they battled Grimroire Heart on Tenrou. Not even during the battle of the dragons as she pushed all the townsfolk to safety. She had always been front and center, doing everything in her power to ensure victory, no matter the cost.
So, as he stared at her, petite yet fierce, he knew no matter what he said, she wasn’t going to let this one go. And part of him didn’t want to. Because the demons who had killed their guildmates were going to pay.
“Tartaros.”
Her brown eyes widened. “Wh-What?”
“It was Tartaros.” Gajeel had overhead Makarov that day in the guildhall, picked up easily with his sensitive hearing. Sleuthing was one of his strong suits. It’s why he was able to play a double-agent so well. However, Makarov’s caution regarding Tartaros was justified, and he wasn’t yet sure if he should question that decision. Makarov wasn’t exactly a man to doubt when it came to his motives. The other dragon slayers hadn’t been nearby, so Gajeel was sure he was the only one who knew.
Levy swallowed thickly, her surprise quickly snuffed out with new resolve. “I-I had a feeling they may have been involved. They’re the only dark guild left that could’ve done something like this. Just hadn’t found proof yet,” she murmured, her eyes sweeping over her research. “Not sure how the demons tie into them though.”
Gajeel smirked. Levy’s actions over the past couple of days and the books piled on the floor at their feet were evidence that she had figured it out. Of course she did. “Well, what did you find?”
They shared a look, one filled with unwavering conviction. The unknown of what laid ahead terrified them - the notion of going up against a dark guild known only as the Gates to the Underworld. But their pain and grief triumphed over everything. Their vengeance would remain strong and true until the bitter end, whenever that would come.
For now, Levy smiled and sat down on the floor again to share what she had learned. It wasn’t much, but it was a start.

After another unsettling night in the guildhall - quiet grieving masked by alcohol - Mirajane and Lisanna worked to clean up the aftermath. It had dawned on the elder Strauss sibling that they would run out of booze soon. They hadn’t yet recovered from their most recent celebration after Crocus, which had only been a week ago, but it felt as if a lifetime had passed since then.
Had it only been seven days? Seven days since the end of the Grand Magic Games, the dragon attack, and the parties that followed. Natsu had stolen the king’s crown, an embarrassing yet hilarious end to their time in the capital. He had jubilantly shouted for them to bow down to him, causing Erza to nearly punish him on the spot for mortifying Fairy Tail. Everyone had laughed, including the king and Hisui, the terrifying battle with mythical creatures now behind them. They had been victorious. And now-
A jarring crash stole Mirajane’s attention, the echoes of broken glass filling the empty guildhall. She quickly looked over to see that her younger sister had dropped a plate, causing it to shatter on the floor. “Oh, Lisanna! Are you all right? Here, let me help.”
She knelt down with a towel beside her, attempting to clean up the mess, but as they began picking up the broken pieces, Lisanna cut herself on a shard of glass. “Ouch,” she murmured while recoiling, wincing as a drop of blood appeared on her finger.
“You have to be careful,” Mirajane gently chastised, wrapping her towel around Lisanna’s injury.
Lisanna sighed, averting her gaze. She bit her lower lip until it was almost raw, the sisters remaining quiet as Mirajane put pressure on her finger to stop the blood flow. A few moments passed before Lisanna finally spoke up. “Is there something wrong with me?”
Mirajane was pulled from her thoughts and looked at the younger take-over mage. Ever since her youth, Lisanna had always had this upbeat and positive attitude. It was infectious and often kept Mirajane’s own worries at bay. But now, looking at the deep sadness that reflected in her eyes, Mirajane realized even the most positive people could have their world crushed.
She tilted her head and knitted her brows. “What do you mean?”
Lisanna wouldn’t meet her gaze. “I-I know Lucy is a good person. She’s beautiful, smart, and kind. But…” She paused, swallowing thickly, and curling her uninjured hand into a tight fist. “I-I’ve been jealous of her ever since I met her.”
Mirajane frowned. As far as she could tell, Lucy and Lisanna had been amicable since they met. She had seen no ire from either of them, and Lisanna had never confided in her with such feelings before. Yet, she had an inkling of where these emotions stemmed from.
“But,” Lisanna continued with guilt-ridden eyes. “She was also Natsu’s best friend. I know I shouldn’t be jealous. When I was away, Lucy came along and became a part of Natsu’s life. And part of me is happy about that, because when I was in Edolas, I had been so worried about him - about what would happen to him without me around. Yet..” She paused again, tears filling her eyes.
Shame was not an easy burden to carry. Mirajane rested a gentle hand on her sister’s shoulder. “What is it?”
Lisanna choked out a cry, hurrying to brush away the tears that fell down her cheeks. “I-I just can’t help feeling as if part of me holds Lucy responsible for Natsu and Happy’s deaths,” she confessed quietly, her sin finally out in the open. “She was there - right there - and didn’t save them! That somehow it’s all her fault that they’re gone.”
Realizing the cause of her sister’s affliction, Mirajane’s heart went out to her. “Oh, Lisanna,” she sighed.
“Is there s-something wrong with me?” she asked again, her words broken as whimpers escaped her lips.
Mirajane wrapped her hands around her sister’s, coaxing their gazes to meet. “Yes, but it’s the same thing that’s wrong with all of us. We’re looking for someone to blame - someone tangible right in front of us - because it’s easier than believing this had all been a terrible tragedy at the hands of demons we can’t find.”
Lisanna nodded her head, sniffling. “I just-” She paused, fruitlessly attempting to push away her tears. “I had so many things I wanted to tell him. I wanted to tell him how much I had missed him, and that I was proud of how strong he had become. Just so many unspoken thoughts and words, but I couldn’t say them to him. I couldn’t face him and admit to him that I was jealous, and how hurt I was when I came back and things weren’t the same. It’s because of that fear that I never got the chance to say the one that was important. I never had the chance-” *Hiccup* “To-To tell him I loved him.”
As she broke down crying, Mirajane pulled her to her chest, feeling her own eyes well up with tears. Long ago she had suspected the animal take-over mage had developed feelings for the dragon slayer. Their friendship ran deep and the two were rarely seen without the other. Even though Lisanna had her siblings, and Natsu had the rest of the rowdy bunch of young wizards, the two of them had always shared a special connection.
If she were being honest, Mirajane couldn’t remember Lisanna and Natsu actually sharing a moment alone after she returned from Edolas. The S-Class Trials began only weeks later, and they had all been swept up in the grandeur of friendly skirmishes. After their seven year stasis, they immediately began to train for the Grand Magic Games. Between being declared the victors and the battles with the dragons immediately following, it was amazing that Lisanna had adjusted as well as she did. They really hadn’t been granted the opportunity to immerse her back into their life. The sisters had shared conversations and talked late into the night on plenty of occasions, catching Lisanna up on what she had missed during her time away, but that didn’t account for the memories and emotional attachments she had missed.
Mirajane felt the weight of the world on her shoulders and the weight of Lisanna’s grief in her arms as she contemplated her sister’s predicament. “I know it’s difficult to keep going,” Mirajane soothed quietly, running a hand through her hair. “But just know that you have to.”
“How?” Lisanna cried out, her emotional vexation reminding Mirajane so much of her own when a certain red-head had come to her aid. “How can I, when I feel so bitter, as if I have no direction anymore?”
Mirajane smiled sadly. “I remember that feeling. You’re caught between all that was and all that must be. You feel lost.” She pulled away to look down at her sister, wiping away her tears. “But remember, things will weigh you down, but only if you let them. I get it. It’s hard to pretend that a boulder is a feather. It’s hard to pretend that something difficult is easy. So, just do what I’ve done for years. I just pretend that I’m strong, until I am.”
Lisanna sniffled, her sobs finally beginning to quiet.
The elder take-over mage sighed, memories turning back to when she thought Lisanna had died, and the guilt that nearly killed Elfman. “You may feel bitter toward Lucy, and angry over Natsu. But the truth is,” she said, gently resting her forehead against her sister’s. “Unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself for those feelings, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize the situation is over - you can’t move forward.”

Levy knocked on a familiar door she had walked through many times before. She played with a strand of her hair, brown eyes drawn to the floor boards beneath her feet. It had become her daily ritual when taking a break from the library to walk to the apartment complex not far from the guild hall, her heart aching for a smiling, blonde, celestial wizard to welcome her in. But that moment had yet to come. Not the day after the funeral, or the week that followed. Lucy Heartfilia had become a ghost, locking herself within the same four walls and refusing to see anyone.
The solid-script mage exhaled deeply, feeling terribly helpless during this time of grieving. Her research hadn’t turned up anything worthwhile at the Fairy Tail library, so in between musing over other means of gathering information, she filled her days of attempting to bring some semblance of normalcy back to the guild. She read books in the hall and tried to greet everyone with a cheerful smile. The awkward responses she received indicated she was trying too hard, but she didn’t know what else to do. They needed someone to spur them into action, a speech of hope and faith to give them the final push toward defeating their current adversary.
However, Makarov had said nothing on the subject, instead locking himself within his office for days on end, allowing only Mirajane and Laxus to speak with him on occasion. Levy didn’t know what the master was planning, but she had a sneaking suspicion he was doing his own digging into Tartaros, perhaps pulling strings she herself did not possess.
“Lucy,” she called out desperately for her friend, knocking again in the hopes this time she would let her in. The deep blues of night had descended on Magnolia, snuffing out the last bit of sunlight, and causing Levy to feel that more anxious about Lucy’s well-being. “Please, I just want to talk, make sure you’re okay.” Her eyes filled with frustrated tears, hands curling into fists at her sides. “I’m worried sick, Lu. Open the door.”
The tiny script mage’s voice was stern - demanding - so different from her carefree nature only weeks before. She was tired of fighting against Lucy’s absurd way of shutting out the world. They were a family, dammit, and they needed each other. Couldn’t she see that?
She pushed her blue hair out of her face, setting one last despondent look at Lucy’s apartment door before turning to leave. Just as she began making her way out of the front door, Loke appeared in a glitter of golden light, startling her. His suit was clean-pressed as usual, but his expression twisted into one of concern.
“Levy,” he greeted languidly, slipping his hands into the pockets of his slacks.
“How is she?” Levy asked, hands wrapping around themselves in worry. “Why-Why won’t she let me in?”
“She’s okay,” he soothed, dark circles under his eyes speaking of exhaustion. He readjusted his glasses. “Don’t worry. Her spirits are looking after her. Lucy suffered a terrible loss, and she’s taking it hard.” He sighed, looking over at her door as if he could see right through it. “From what Aquarius told me, when Lucy’s mother died, she tried to do the same thing. But she was young - easily distracted by her estate’s employees and the little attention her father gave her.”
Levy shook her head dismissively. “Then why won’t she let us help her now? Why won’t she come to the guild, or let us in?”
He shrugged. “She just lost her team, and one of her best friends - the person who gave her purpose in life again. Lucy spent years under her father’s thumb until she ran away to find happiness. Natsu gave that to her. He brought her to Fairy Tail. She’s going to need time to heal.”
That wasn’t the explanation Levy wanted to hear, but she could understand what Loke was saying. And seeing as how some of Lucy’s spirits had been with her for far longer than the guild had, she supposed they understood her grieving process better than she. Even so, Loke’s words did little to soothe her concern.
“If she becomes a real concern, I’ll make sure to come find you,” Loke said as a last attempt to pacify her apprehension. “I promise.”
Levy nodded, her gaze holding his. “I’m trusting you,” she murmured, before pushing past him and out the front door.
Loke stood for a moment, rubbing tired eyes, before slipping back into Lucy’s room. Virgo was in the process of running her a warm bath. Although Lucy always loved soaking in her tub, it had been hard to convince her to do so lately.
“Here you go, Princess,” he heard Virgo say from beyond the bathroom door, assisting their mage into the tub. Shortly after, Virgo stepped out into the room, exchanging a look of unease with him.
Lucy sank down into the water, the silver-gray stream curling and dancing through the air, filling the bathroom completely. After a while, a golden light shimmered in the air, and Aquarius appeared, arms crossed over her chest as she glared at Lucy’s indifferent expression.
“Lucy,” she tried, receiving not even a notion that she had been heard. She frowned, her usual bitter attitude and short-lipped responses falling to the wayside. Pathetic didn’t even begin to describe the blonde sitting before her. She sighed. “You can’t blame yourself,” she murmured, watching her carefully. “Not for this.”
The celestial mage turned her head away, eyes staring at moisture accumulating on the tile floor. “How can I not?” she asked quietly. “I survived and they didn’t.”
Aquarius had no real answer for that. Survivor’s guilt was not something that could be overcome easily. It was like the weight of the ocean’s walls were crushing a person, uncontrolled by levis. The mermaid spirit had been around long enough to have seen many of her former key holders experience such a thing. Being a wizard was not always a joyous job to yield.
“It’s okay that you survived,” she spoke softly, looking at Lucy with a pitied gaze. “I’m even happy about it.”
That made Lucy look up at her with a raised brow.
A deep blush settled on Aquarius’s cheeks. “Look, you may be a brat, but you’re Layla’s daughter. Of course I wouldn’t want anything really bad to happen to you.”
For the first time in a long time, Lucy’s lips tugged into a half-hearted smile. “Thanks, Aquarius.” Although their relationship had always been close to volatile, the mermaid spirit spoke her care discreetly.
Aquarius folded her arms over her chest, blue eyes continuing to study Lucy. Her grief this time had upended her life much like Layla’s death had, but this time, Lucy wasn’t an easily distractible child. The celestial mage understood very well what had happened to her friends, and had witnessed the trauma first hand. It wouldn’t be something that she would be able to overcome anytime soon.
“You should talk about it,” Aquarius urged gently.
Lucy’s reaction was instantaneous. She wrapped her arms tighter around her knees and hid her face between them. Aquarius could feel the anxiety coming off the girl in waves. “I-I can’t,” Lucy’s muffled, shaky voice came from the protection of her self-made sheath.
A deep exhale slipped from her lips. With a hand more gentle than ever before, Aquarius ran her fingers through Lucy’s golden tresses before coming to rest comfortably on top. “You’ll have to eventually. When you’re ready.”
Coruscating golden light filled the room and Lucy felt Aquarius’s hand disappear along with her presence. She was left alone in a lukewarm bath. Aquarius always hated bath time. The fact that she had decided to show up now soothed Lucy’s heart.
Moments later, Virgo assisted Lucy into her pajamas and then to the couch, where Virgo set about brushing Lucy’s hair. Silence filled the apartment, Virgo being careful not to pull at Lucy’s tresses. Loke stood by the window, looking down at the street below, stealing glances behind him at his mage.
Loke had lived for a very long time. He had seen the blackest moments grief and tragedy could offer. They could bury a person alive simply by the sheer weight of it all. The darkness would swallow people whole without mercy, even bringing about death. Yet, he had also seen the other side of that coin - the light that shined brightly despite the wickedness life would bring. He witnessed euphoria and triumph, the gleeful laughter of happiness too much to contain.
More than anything, Loke wanted to show Lucy that world - the brilliant sun and the skies. Happiness lived outside of these four walls she had cocooned herself within. It existed all around - in the ice creams that melted quickly; the sandy beaches and waves that tickled ankles; in the little white shells hidden under the sand, their insides still grainy with remnants of sand and iridescence. There was happiness in the fiery red and orange hues that filled the sky when the sun bid farewell; and happiness even in the pale calm of the night with the stars that shone above, reminders of all the things that were greater than the world.
There was so much more to this life than her grief, and he only wished he could help her see past this moment.
“All finished,” Virgo said quietly as she ran her fingers through Lucy’s tresses a final time.
“Thank you.” The mage’s mumbled gratitude was more conversation than the spirits had hoped she would have offered. She hadn’t been up for much talking.
Virgo exchanged a look with Loke before disappearing back to the celestial realm. Still, Lucy didn’t move. Her gaze fixated on a spot on the wall, her fingers fidgeting with the blanket on her lap, her mind obviously elsewhere.
“Are you okay?” Loke asked, quickly chastising himself for asking the question as Lucy scoffed. The blonde didn’t spare him a glance, but did pull her gaze to her lap. He closed the distance between them and stood in front of her so he could meet her eyes. His expression let her know he wasn’t going to leave until she answered him.
She wasn’t able to hold his stare long before she looked away. “I’m just tired, all right?” she finally said to pacify him. It seemed to be her answer every time he asked. And he asked a lot. Over and over and over again, day in and day out, as if waiting for her answer to change. He was sure he was beginning to annoy her, but to be frank, any emotion that Lucy exhibited other than overwhelming sadness was a win in his book.
“Get up.” It was more of a demand than a request, which only seemed to anger Lucy further.
She frowned and ignored him, not even entertaining him with a response. If she had her way, he was sure she would fall asleep on the couch just to spite him.
Loke sighed and knelt down so he was eye-level with her. “Please, Lucy. Do it for me.”
His pleading gaze nearly broke her conviction. He could see it. They had been through so much in such a short time together, he knew she would have a hard time denying his request. Was he playing dirty by waving their trust in her face? Probably. But he was desperate.
The lion spirit reached out a hand and covered hers. “If you do, I promise I’ll give you some space.”
Well, that compromise seemed to peak her interest. “Why?” she asked warily.
He chuckled, picking up on her guarded expression. “We aren’t going far. You’ll like it. Trust me.”
And he knew that was something Lucy could never deny. The trust between them was iron-clad and something she would never dispute. “Fine,” she ultimately conceded with a deep sigh. “Where to?”
“Follow me.”
The Leader of the Zodiac took her hand in his, guiding her carefully to her apartment door. She hesitated as he attempted to direct her into the hallway, panicking about venturing back into the world that still turned without half of Team Natsu. But Loke encouraged her with a gentle tug.
Lucy took a deep breath and followed him up the stairs to the third floor, and then up further still until they happened upon the hatch to the roof. Loke opened it before reaching behind him and helping Lucy out. “What are we doing out here?” she asked once she was standing beside him.
He stayed silent, pulled her with him toward the front end, and sat down near the edge where the shingles began slanting downward. He patted the ground beside him invitingly and she cautiously joined him. Once she settled in he pointed out toward the Magnolia, past the river the boatmen always drifted down.
“Look, Lucy.”
She followed his finger to where the sky met the horizon far beyond the town. The outline of the Fairy Tail guild, shrouded in darkness, could be seen, and just beyond that sat Lake Sciliora. A shimmering of stars lit up the night sky, becoming more visible as the midnight hour approached. The city quietly began to fall asleep as lights faded from windows and people emptied the streets.
Folding her knees and wrapping her arms around them, Lucy wistfully gazed at the heavens. “I wish I was a star,” she said aloud.
Loke reached over and tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. “But don’t you see,” he murmured, her eyes pulling to his. “You’re already a galaxy. You have universes trapped beneath your skin and stardust shining in your eyes. You are so much more than a star.”
Tears welled in her eyes. “What-What if I don’t want to be more than a star?” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
“Oh, Lucy,” Loke soothed, brushing away a tear that slid down her cheek.
“Loke,” she cried out, no longer able to hold back her sobs. “I-I don’t want to feel like this anymore.”
He frowned as she began to cry, her shoulders shaking. “This isn’t the end,” he tried, wanting her to understand that she wouldn’t always feel this way.
“But what if I-I want it to be?”
Her words tore through Loke; the very thought of Lucy feeling so broken as to even consider the idea of no longer existing made his stomach drop. Had she truly fallen so far? Had the beautiful, shining blonde who always smiled become so grief-stricken as to even consider taking her life? The very idea nearly made him snap.
Loke reached out and pulled Lucy into his arms, wrapping her tightly in his embrace as if he could hold her together. She wept into his chest, folding herself within him and hiding from the world. “It’s going to be okay,” he murmured, his repetition glaring, but he wasn’t sure what the right words were to say.
“I-I wish I didn’t need y-you to tell me-e that,” she sputtered through her tears.
He pulled away then, needing to look at her, needing her to understand how serious he was being. Her confession terrified him. “You have me,” he promised sharply, wiping away her tears as quickly as they fell, holding her head between his hands. Her lips wobbled and her eyes were glassy. She reached up and held his hands, leaning into his touch. “You have me,” he repeated in a gentler tone. “Until every last star in the galaxy dies, you have me.”
Loke pulled her back into his arms and closed his eyes, listening to the sound of her ragged breathing. He knew no matter what he said to her, nothing would lessen the impact of her pain. He could only sit there and hold her, offer her whatever she required of him, anything to help her smile again. Because ever since that day, the heavenly bodies didn’t shine as brightly.
Lucy’s cries soon lessened to whimpers, her tears drying up, and she finally settled down to shaky sighs. After a long moment, he pulled away and allowed space between them. He didn’t say anything, allowing her this moment of quiet.
The blonde tucked her hair behind her ears, smoothing it out as if to make herself more presentable. He didn’t know why. She had always been beautiful to him. He reached out and ran his thumb across her jaw, his eyes searching hers. “I’m here with you.”
She nodded silently, her eyes leaving him and searching the horizon again. Darkness had fully descended over Magnolia, and the sky was alight with the stars she loved so much.
Loke followed her gaze and then pointed into the sky. “Which constellation is that?”
Lucy easily found which stars he pointed to. “Saggitarius,” she murmured.
“And that one?” he asked, indicating another point in the sky.
She allowed a small smile. “Capricorn.”
He took her hand. “Every time you start to feel down, every time you begin to think of the end, I want you to look to the stars,” he said. “Name the constellations. Know that this world is so great and beautiful - and would be less-so if you were gone.”
Brown eyes met his, and for the first time since everything went to hell, Loke saw life flicker behind her gaze. Lucy was still there - no longer drowning, but still swimming, trying to get to shore.

Wesley: I don't understand. Buffy: Well, I don't think I can talk any slower, Wes. I want to leave. Wesley: What? Now? Buffy: No, not now. After I graduate, you know, college? Wesley: But, you're a Slayer. Buffy: Yeah, I'm also a person. You can't just define me by my Slayer-ness. That's ... something-ism. Giles: Buffy, I know we've talked about you going away... Buffy: I got into Northwestern. Giles: That's wonderful news. Good for you. Wesley: All right, everyone. Monsters, demons, world in peril? Buffy: I bet you they have all that stuff in Illinois. Wesley: You cannot leave Sunnydale. By the power invested in me by the Council, I forbid it. Giles: Ah yes, that should settle it.

Fusion Revived - CH 6 (Family)
➤ This story is actually complete (finished Sep 2021) over on my Ao3 already; I'm just publishing it here on tumblr too for archival purposes. I hope any and all curious readers enjoy if they haven't checked it out yet!
SUMMARY: Majin Buu has been destroyed, and the Earth has known peace for close to a year now. Life hasn't been too peaceful for the person responsible for saving the world and the entire universe however, but when an ordinary woman meets him one day, things start to change.
RATING: Teen and Up. PAIRING(S): Vegito x OC/Reader, alluded Gochi, alluded Vegebul CONTENT: Canon Divergence, Slow Burn, Friends to Lovers, Family Drama CW(s) THIS CHAPTER: None.
Tumblr media
It’s funny how different things feel now. It’s like Vegito is an entirely new person to her, having gone from a friendly stranger to someone she truly does consider a friend. A dear friend, even.
He told her all sorts of stories about the adventures he’s had, or rather, what Goku and Vegeta had. While possessing his own mind, he does have their memories, and he was able to talk about them like he himself had been there.
How Goku and Vegeta met one another sounded like something that came right out of a movie. Actually, everything both Saiyans went through sounded so out-of-this-world that you would only see it in fiction. But Vegito had no reason to lie, and she got no impression he was, so she ate up every word. There were some parts that were…awful, namely every heinous act Vegeta committed in the early years of him knowing Goku and his friends, and how he gave his soul to Babidi just for more power, but he finally tried to at least do one good thing. His sacrifice to Majin Buu, though it didn’t work, showed just how far he’s come.
Vegito told her more about the demon, and that they used objects called dragon balls to fix the messes he caused, along with erasing the memories people on Earth had of him. The existence of a magical, wish-granting dragon that emerged from little orbs that you had to gather from around the world was probably the most ridiculous thing out of them all, but she accepted it. She accepted everything, having already come to grips with how Vegito flipped her understanding of the world onto its head.
Nothing would ever be the same again, and she was ok with that.
Vegito went into a little more detail regarding the Saiyans, only divulging that they were a warrior race containing members that were physically stronger than any typical earthling, and that they were virtually extinct now due to their homeworld Planet Vegeta getting destroyed. He seemed to not want to go into what they did on the planet or how the Saiyans lived, but he did go over how Vegeta was their prince and would have eventually become their king.
He touched more upon his relationship between the two Saiyans’ wives, explaining that he didn’t feel comfortable trying to be a husband to either one of them. Goku is Chi Chi’s husband, Vegeta was Bulma’s, and he didn’t want to step anywhere in that kind of territory. She interpreted this as him saying that he was single, which she may or may not have grown especially happy about…
The last thing she was told that her attention clung to, was Vegito’s level of strength. Being a potara fusion, he had Vegeta and Goku’s power combined, and multiplied. He was the strongest person on Earth, and in the entire universe, which makes him the perfect guardian for both. If anything like Majin Buu appeared again, he would be ready.
A consequence to his power however, was that there was no one around who could give him a challenging fight.
He trained his sons Goten and Trunks, and sparred with someone he called Piccolo every now and then, but he couldn’t use his full strength or even a substantial amount because they or anyone else can’t handle it. Unable to experience any thrill in fighting, and demotivated from training regularly since he was already at the top of the universal pyramid, he was left stricken with boredom the majority of the time this past year.
That must’ve been part of the reason why he became so motivated to pester her. She made him feel entertained, more often than he’s felt since he destroyed Buu.
She doubted she has the heart to ever grow genuinely mad at him again. She’s grateful he’s allowed her in like this.
                                                                                                             ༻ ❁ ༺
A day has passed. As the weather was fair, the two of them were outside yards away from her home, getting fresh air.
She was catching up on a novel she was hooked onto, while Vegito sat next to her, resting against the tree with his legs crossed and eyes closed. The tip of his tail was in the grasp of one of her hands, held gingerly as her fingers stroked its fur. He remained still and quiet, but the blush on his face spoke enough on its own.
He trusting her enough to let her touch his tail tickled the woman pink. He did warn her to not squeeze it as it was sensitive, which is why he usually kept it wrapped around his waist, but he was content to let her pet it as much as she pleased. Either he was willing to indulge her, or it must have felt good. Or both.
She managed to go through two chapters of her book before Vegito’s tail twitched abruptly. He was sitting up straighter now, posture stiffened, and eyes open.
“Something up?”
“Goten and Trunks are approaching us.”
He answered, staring to his side, up at the sky.
“…Is that a bad thing?” He looked vigilant, so she couldn’t help but wonder.
“Not inherently.” He popped his neck, rubbing it with a hand before he moved to stand up. She let go of his tail so she wouldn’t accidently pull it, and got up onto her feet as well.
Looking ahead, she could see two blurs of aura steadily growing larger, as the two boys that gave them off drew nearer. They landed smoothly before their father, and for a second, she was envious that two kids were such expert fliers. She has still been thinking about taking that lesson from Vegito…
“What is it boys?” He crossed his arms.
Goten’s eyes were downcast and he was frowning, clearly upset about something. Trunks took the initiative to answer the adult. He too didn’t appear to be thrilled, but unlike Goten, he was more calm overall.
“Our moms need to talk to you. They’re waiting at Capsule Corp.”
He wasn’t even speaking to her, but she flinched. She couldn’t see Vegito’s face from where she was, but she caught how rigid his stance became.
“…Fine.” He answered after a pause, and he placed two of his fingers against his forehead, preparing to use Instant Transmission. The boys took the cue and grasped the fabric of his trousers. He didn’t vanish right away though.
His head rotated until he was looking at her. His expression was neutral, but his eyes told a different story.
“I’ll…see you later, _____.”
“O-Ok…”
He and the boys were gone then. She was left with a sickening feeling of dread, that made her stomach twist and turn.
                                                                                                             ༻ ❁ ༺
When they arrived inside Capsule Corporation’s headquarters and home of the Brief family, Vegito already sensed something was amiss. Goten and Trunks’ moods hinted as such, but he was hoping whatever the women needed him for wasn’t serious.
He noticed them standing before him with similar disgruntled looks, and he steeled himself for another argument that was surely on the horizon.
“Thank you, kids. Go off and play, the adults need to have a discussion.” Chi Chi addressed the two without taking her eyes off of Vegito. They nodded and ran out posthaste…but they did hide in a close room, far too apprehensive to not eavesdrop. They knew what their mothers were going to tell him.
“Let’s not beat around the bush. Bulma and I have come to a decision regarding you, that we hope will repair things for us all.” Chi Chi begun, and immediately, anxiousness made his fists clench. Annoyance also seeped up, as they decided on something involving him without asking him about it first. Of course.
“The boys want their fathers back. We want our husbands back. So…” Bulma’s head tilted upwards, gazing down her nose at him. Like he was someone beneath her.
“Whenever they become active sometime in the next few days, we’ll be gathering the dragon balls and wishing for you to be unfused.”
… … …
It took him a moment to understand.
And the second he did, he was outraged.
“Unfuse? ME? Did I not tell you both that this fusion was PERMANENT?” Vegito snarled, composure utterly gone. The warrior was aware that level-headedness with a key trait to have for one’s character, but…they were technically threatening him with erasure here.
For his state as a fused being, that might as well be death.
“We have faith that won’t stop Shenron.” Neither of the women were deterred by his anger. Which, frankly made him more mad.
“Faith? So you aren’t even sure that the dragon will be capable of granting it?!”
“We won’t know unless we try. Vegito, we’re both TIRED of living like this. Living with you…being here. It isn’t right!” Chi Chi’s temper was also starting to rise.
But, her demeanor had nothing on his. Like in his unpleasant encounter with Bulma before, sparks shot off of Vegito’s form, but with more ferocity now. Faint vibrations passed through the ground. He glowered, and his black irises turned a muted cyan.
“Did you two forget that your husbands created me for you? For you, your children, and this planet you live on? You’re disrespecting them and their sacrifice, for what?”
“We can undo their sacrifice, and bring them back to us. Everything can go back to being truly normal, how it should be.” Bulma disregarded the meat of his questions, solely focusing on their plan.
Their plan to kill him.
“Do I have ANY say in this? Does what I think and feel not matter to either of you?!”
“You can’t change our minds Vegito. We’re not backing away from this. Stop being selfish. Accept your fate.”
Bulma tossed a variation of what he told her before, right back into his face. And, did he feel it burn. His aura intensified, and the vibrations strengthened to the point that the contents in the room they were in trembled. His muscles were tightened, as if he was ready to jump forward to combat the threat before him.
He didn’t. He couldn’t. He couldn’t ever harm them, even if he wanted to.
“FINE! Collect the dragon balls, wish for whatever you like. It won’t work. But if it does…I will never forgive you for taking my life away from me.”
The enraged Saiyan used Instant Transmission and disappeared, with the chaos in the room following.
Chi Chi and Bulma shared a sigh, and spoke with lowered voices with one another. Until the dragon radar was able to detect the signals the dragon balls emitted when active, they had to wait a little longer. In the nearby room, their sons shook off the nerves troubling them. They both can sense ki, and Vegito’s was spiking to overwhelming heights before he left.
“Trunks…do you think this is a good idea?” Goten meekly questioned.
“…Kind of. I miss Dad, and Mom’s been so sad lately. If Shenron can bring him back, that should make her happy again. It’s why I reminded her about the dragon balls.” Trunks appeared sure, but the unsure tone under his words was a strong contrast.
“I dunno…this feels wrong. Did you hear how mad Vegito was?”
“Of course he’d be mad. But it’s whatever. The most important thing is that our dads will be back.” He nodded, dispelling his fears. Goten wasn’t so convinced.
He desired to see his own father again greatly, having the memories of overhearing his mother crying during multiple nights over he being stuck with Vegeta as one person, but the boy wrestled with himself mentally to forget how Vegito felt about all this. He wanted his mother to be happy again too.
This was for the best. It had to be…
                                                                                                             ༻ ❁ ༺
The fusion appeared on the painfully familiar beach that had Kame House upon it, but he wasn’t planning on entering to say hello to Master Roshi and Turtle. He wasted no time in blasting away, flying above the speed of sound through the air. His destination was merely a remote island, devoid of other people on it.
As he touched down, his pent up energy and fury became too strenuous to bare.
“Damn it! DAMN IT!!!”
Vegito screamed, and a column of light surged from his body and enveloped him, blasting away everything around him. The earth shook with the force of a staggering earthquake, and a fierce gale blew up a dirt cloud mixed with smoke. When it faded, he was in a massive crater that sunk down almost a mile into the earth’s crust. He didn’t release all of his energy, as that would’ve blown a hole right down to the planet’s core like a hot knife through butter.
That vent did help him steady himself, but the curbed fury allowed a tidal wave of fear to wash over him. He fell to his knees, and his hands slid up to his golden hair, gripping it tightly.
In his mind, over and over again, did the plea repeat.
‘I don’t want to disappear.’
He honestly didn’t know if Shenron actually could unfuse him, but the possibility being there and the women taking it was enough for his shell to crumble. He knew not what the unfusion process was like, but there would be no question that with Goku and Vegeta separated and regaining their own consciousnesses, his own would cease to exist.
There isn’t an Other World for him. There isn’t a second life waiting. There is only a void, where for all he knew, he would be trapped in for the rest of his creator’s lives in this world and the other. This would be it. The end.
He thought that Bulma and Chi Chi would eventually learn to accept him, some day. The thought of being intimate with either one of them, especially BOTH of them, made him extremely uncomfortable. The Goku in him cared little for Bulma and wanted only Chi Chi, but Vegeta’s essence leaned towards Bulma and coiled in disgust at the image of laying in bed with Chi Chi. There was such a high degree of disharmony in his core over the topic that gave him a migraine if he thought about it for too long, so it felt immensely better to keep away from them both. The women themselves constantly acted as if he repulsed them anyway.
He did still carry love for them regardless, and he used that for fueling himself to be a supportive figure, rather than a husband. And it wasn’t good enough.
Goten and Trunks… The boys were very young and didn’t completely understand just how complicated things were, but they wanted their true fathers back, plain and simple. The same went for Gohan, the fusion knew. He would never suffice. Never be enough.
Would his creators ever need to fuse again? He knew better than anyone else that they probably would refuse to, even if it was necessary. Just like him, they were both prideful and valued their individual strength too much to rely heavily upon another. He was a special occurrence, one born out of adrenaline and desperation. A one-hit wonder. Whenever the dragon balls reactivate, which the women said would be soon, he could leave this universe for good and there was nothing he could do about it.
Everything HE wanted, everything HE was devoted towards and strived towards…
None of it mattered after all.
One of his hands came free to slam into the ground as a punch, creating another but smaller crater. His eyes stung, but he would not let himself cry. He was a warrior, and he would face whatever happens with his dignity upheld.
There was a flash in the pit of his mind. The appearance and voice of a lovely woman he became attached to…
‘_____...’
How was he supposed to tell her this? Could he? Would it be worth it? If the wish was beyond Shenron’s power, then he’d worry her for nothing. But if he kept it secret and found his two halves becoming their original selves, she would be left in the dark, wondering where he was. Unaware of the fact that he left this realm, likely forever.
Why exactly did that make his heart twist? Why was he so…smitten with her…?
The Saiyan was at a lost. He’d much rather be placed in the life-or-death situation of fighting Majin Buu again than deal with any of this.
He fell in a heap to sit, powering down from his Super Saiyan state, exhausted more than he’s ever been.

Surprise
Idc if this gif isn’t a lmk one it’s too perfect for the chapter and Toffee is an icon
Mei was practically vibrating as she told her friends of her plan. They stood together on the deck of Sandy's boat, huddled around the dragon descendent as she showed them the image on her phone. All of her companions were there, save for one.
"This is gonna be great, Mei! Lian will be so happy." MK beamed, energized by Mei's enthusiasm.
Pigsy and Tang shared a worried look. While they also agreed that the idea was great, it was the execution that concerned them. Ever since her visit to the Flaming Foundry, Lian had been put on edge. She explained to them what the Demon Bull Family had told her, that they were seemingly allies before she lost her memory.
She had no intention of taking the family's side, though the experience had left her uneasy. Mei's gift would definitely be a nice way to cheer her up, the only issue was the way Mei was presenting it...
"You sure you want this to be a surprise, Mei?" Pigsy crossed his arms. "You know how Lian gets when you try to hide things from her."
The girl crossed her arms. "Lian won't get here for another hour. She won't know if nobody tells her, MK." The Monkie Kid shrunk a bit under her gaze, chuckling nervously to himself.
Sandy frowned, looking between Mei and Pigsy. "Wait, why is it a bad idea to throw a surprise for Lian?"
"You know Lian, Sandy. She doesn't like surprises." Pigsy shook his head, looking down before pointing back at the girl. "And she'll know if you're throwing one so all this planning is just gonna be pointless!"
"How could she know?" Sandy turned to Tang, who was in the midst of cleaning his glasses.
"She always knows." Tang sighed as he put them back on. The group looked between one another, then looked out to the docks and surrounding area. "Why don't we take this talk in the elevator? We know Lian won't go in there with how small it is."
~~~~
Damn it, they're getting smarter.
I knew something was off today. During breakfast earlier this morning, MK was texting Mei when he began fidgeting. His leg started bobbing up and down, a tell that he was getting excited over something. If it wasn't a secret, he would've outright shared whatever the news was with me.
They were hiding something, so I would have to get to the bottom of it. Before he had left, I told MK I had some errands to run and wouldn't be able to hang out much so I could tag him without suspicion. Part of me felt bad for snooping, but I couldn't help it!
It wasn't like I didn't trust MK or anything, I loved the kid. What bothered me was not knowing whatever he and Mei were trying to hide. After all, what if they didn't realize what they were hiding could be a devastating secret that might tear apart our relationship, should it continue to be kept a secret.
Was it a paranoid idea to have? Yes. Would that stop me? No.
I couldn't do nothing, I physically couldn't. If I knew something was up, that awful aching in my chest would grow and burrow itself into my lungs and make each of my breaths shallow. It was like I could keel over from its pain. I had to get to the bottom of this, for peace of mind.
After a little while, the group came back out of the elevator, Mei whistled for her motorbike that zoomed down the docks to meet her at the boat. Waving goodbye to the others, she took off. If I wanted to figure out what was going on with the group, I'd have to go to the source.
Following her on the Find My Friends app MK, Mei and I shared, I noticed she was going to our workshop. It had been a while since I visited the building, what could she be doing there?
I still remembered when I first invited her into the workshop. It was back when her and MK were still in school. I was fixing up the delivery cart and she approached with a bolt I hadn't realized I dropped.
She seemed interested in my work. The girl offered to help me by passing the tools I needed, which then turned into me explaining what I was doing as she became curious on how I was able to fix the old engine of the cart.
That curiosity led to me showing her my workshop where I kept all my more interesting vehicles. The way her eyes lit up was still crystal clear in my mind, that look of wonder told me what I needed to know about her, she'd love mechanics.
So I offered to show her a few things, the basics with some tips and tricks. I even helped her build the bike she used today. The way her face lit up when she revved it's engine that first time, I was glad she found something she could be so passionate about.
It didn't take much longer before I approached the large garage door of the workshop, which was closed. Mei usually worked with it open. Going around to the door proved to be pointless as it was locked. Very suspicious.
My keys for the workshop were at home so I knocked on the door. "Mei, it's Lian. I know you're in there." At the sound of my voice, I heard a yelp followed by several crashes and metal scratching.
The door yanked open, Mei stepping out with a grin before closing the door behind her. "Lian! What're you doing here? I thought you had stuff to do."
"Let's cut to the chase, Mei-Mei." I smiled, her face dropping as I did. "I know you're hiding something."
The girl glanced away. "Dang it, MK." She grumbled, making me stifle a laugh.
"Don't blame the boy, he's not at fault for my powers of deduction." I crossed my arms as I spoke. "But you should know that unless you tell me what's going on, I will get to the bottom of it myself."
Mei furrowed her brows at my words, her stare softening before letting out a sigh. "Fine. I'm planning a surprise for you, okay?"
"Yes?" I leaned forward a bit, waiting for her to continue the sentence.
She laughed as I awaited her continuation. "I'm not telling you what it is! That'd ruin the surprise."
I frowned. "Come on, Mei! You know how I feel about surprises." I groaned, though the girl just rolled her eyes.
"It's a good one, I promise." She put a hand over her heart and rested her other on my shoulder. Despite her assurance, it couldn't stop the twisting of my chest as the ache intensified.
Mei noticed my frown and sighed. "Please, Lian, let me do this for you. Just this once." Her eyes were pleading, and I felt my heart being torn two separate directions. I know Mei, she wouldn't do something like this if it was bad. But the other half of my heart refused to listen to rational thought. There were too many 'what if's.
"... Fine. I'll let it go for now." Mei's grin stretched wide at my words, and she engulfed me in a tight hug. I could barely breathe with how tight the hug was.
She squealed a little as she let go. "Thank you! I promise, you're going to love it. Just sit back and relax, I'll get you once everything's ready."
"Relax... I will bring you once everything's ready."
The ache gripped onto my heart, crushing it under a pressure so intense I had to fight to keep myself standing. I did my best to conceal the sharp intake of breath I took with a crooked smile. I nodded to my friend. "Sounds... sounds good."
"I'll see you in a bit, okay?" The girl wrapped me in a hug before running back into the workshop. I stood there for a moment, unable to move.
This was okay. This was fine. All I have to do is wait. I can wait until whatever Mei is doing... is ready. Super easy. Really easy.
...I need some tea.
Turning on my heel, I began to walk back to my apartment. Sandy let me keep some of his anti-stress tea at home now, there were some times I'd need it at ungodly hours of the night, so to prevent anymore late night withdrawals, he gave me a box of his special brew.
When I got back, MK had taken the cart out to make some deliveries. Pigsy was working back in the kitchen while Tang was scarfing down a bowl of noodles. I quickly nodded to the scholar. "Hi, Tang. Bye, Tang."
The man barely had time to say a word before I headed up to the apartment. Switching on the kettle, I scrambled to find the box and a clean mug. The ache was persistent, beating like a drum that vibrated in my chest and through my entire being.
"This is fine. Yup, all good." I smiled to myself, closing my eyes and taking in deep breaths to stop the pang from growing. Something banged against the door and I jumped with a yelp, unprepared for the noise and dropping the mug.
It shattered on impact with the ground, making my skin prickle at the sound as I cussed under my breath. I tried my best not to scream out in frustration. "Lian?" Tang's voice was on the other side of the door. "Are you okay in there?" I shook my head, as if to release these bundles and tangles of anxiously-charged energies building up in my body.
"Just a second!" I called back, rushing for the broom to sweep up the mess. Once it was clean and I felt ready enough, I opened the door with a smile. "Hey, Tang. Is everything okay?"
The man looked at me with a frown, looking over me with concern. "Are you?" I felt my eye twitch at the question, and it didn't go unnoticed.
"We should sit." Tang sighed, and I let him in right as the kettle began to whistle. The scholar blinked a little as he looked around the apartment. MK and I weren't the most organized people, that was obvious to anyone. However, more recently I may have been letting the apartment get a bit too messy.
Ignoring the mess, Tang moved towards the kettle. "Sit, I'll pour the tea for you." I nodded, not wanting to speak in case my voice decided to fail me. Why was I such a ball of nerves?
My friend set the mug in front of me once I sat at the counter. Blowing on the drink gently, I took a sip. It's warmth entered my stomach and seeped into my skin. With a shudder, I closed my eyes and released a long breath. "Feel better?" I nodded, and Tang took off his glasses to clean them.
"Listen, I get you've been a little worried since that sleepover, but you really don't have to worry about Mei's surprise." He smiled, my eyes wandering over the counter as he spoke. "You always end up stressing yourself out over nothing."
I sighed, looking down at my tea. "I know, it's just hard."
"I can guarantee you'll feel better once you see it." I looked back up to see him smile, and I took a sip of my tea. The ache was slowing, growing faint.
Placing the mug back down, I sighed. "Okay, I'll drop it."
Tang nodded. "Good, now how about a free bowl for my services?"
I quickly helped Tang find the door.
I leaned against the apartment door, my arms crossed and fingers thrumming against my forearm. He was right, they were all right. I've heard it all before. It was just the paranoia, all I needed was to relax.
My eyes glanced to where MK and I kept our keys. My gaze fixed on a specific one. "Nope. I don't need it. I can just sit in here and relax. No need to go anywhere else today."
I chuckled, picking back up my tea mug and drinking some more. It was fading, but the ache was present. "Tang is right... he's right." My eyes fell back onto the set of keys. Tang is right.
I'll feel better once I see it.
~~~~
Mei was gone, the app showed that she was on her way back to Pigsy's so I just had to take a longer route to avoid bumping into her. She wouldn't even know I was there. In and out, easy.
My hands fumbled a bit as I unlocked the door, quickly scanning my surrounding area to make sure nobody could see me. As soon as I peeked at whatever this thing was, my stupid heart can stop trying to die and I'll finally be able to relax.
I made sure the door closed quietly behind me, even though I was the only one here, and quickly turned on the lights. It had really been quite some time since I was here. Mei kept things pretty well-organized. Our two work tables were side-by-side against the far wall, hers had some blueprints for something scribbled on there. The wall adjacent to our desks held some lockers along with cabinets for where we kept some of our tools.
What was different, however, was the motorbike in the centre of the workshop.
It was sleek in design, a lustrous black with white markings that streaked across the bike. I approached it slowly, taking in each of its details. "Wow... did she build this all on her own?"
Between the handlebars, there was an engraved message. "'World's coolest grandma'? What a little..." I chuckled, shaking my head lightly. A warmth filled my chest at the sight of it.
"I can't believe she did this." Pride tugged at the corners of my lips. It felt as though my smile had permanently attached itself to my face. Her work was so impressive! To think that a few years ago, Mei was only just beginning to learn and here she is now, building full-on motorcycles all on her own.
I wanted to ask her how long this took before looking down at myself. Mei hasn't shown me yet, I'll have to ask her after acting surprised to see it. My nose scrunched up at my actions. Why couldn't I have just waited?
"Don't tell me this is yours." I spun around at the sound of a new voice. Red Son approached the motorbike, crouching down to inspect the engine.
I jumped back, surprised by his sudden appearance. "What are you doing here?!"
"I'll admit, it's well-built." He ignored me, more interested in the motorcycle. "Considering you must have had to work with whatever pathetic shoddy materials peasants use." He eyed the workshop in seeming disgust.
With a frown, I crossed my arms. "I didn't build that, my friend did. Now what are you doing here, Red Son?"
Standing back to full height, the prince rested his hands on his sides. "I thought that would be obvious. My family needs your answer, Sword Lady."
I don't even have a sword, why does he keep— Ugh, whatever. "Sorry to disappoint, but I've decided to decline your parents 'generous' offer."
"What?!" He sputtered, not expecting the answer. "This is a joke, right? You're refusing the Demon Bull Family? Do you know how far back your connection to my mother and father go?!" He really looked shocked, though I did my best to keep my composure.
"I don't, and I couldn't care less." My frown hardened. "You ask me to choose between my friends that have shown how much they care for me and supposed allies from a time I can't recall, I will choose my current family every time."
"...You're kidding, right?"
I scoffed at his disbelief. "Just get out of here, junior, before I make you."
"You think you can?!" His hair burst into flames, his eyes igniting in anger. I huffed at his tone, this wouldn't end well.
Red Son sprinted at me and I was quick to go on the defence. The demon was swift, swinging with his left before sending rapid punches at my person. I just dodged them, blocking a few with my arms before he landed one that sent me flying back.
I left a dent in the lockers when I flew into them, my teeth gritting as my False Staff formed in my hands. I jumped into the air, slamming the weapon down onto the boy. Red Son blocked with his arms and I jumped back.
Using the staff as a vault, I propelled myself towards the villain and kicked him in the gut. He fell back but was quick to flip back onto his feet and come at me with a flaming fist. He shouted as I knocked his outstretched arm away with my False Weapon but he was quick to pivot, raising a leg that sent a kick hard into my side.
I fell back with a grunt, crashing into the motorcycle and knocking it over. The sound of scraping metal stabbed my heart, and I looked back to see the bike on its side. Ohhhhh, I am so dead. The damage wasn't too bad but Mei was definitely gonna know I was here now.
Red Son glared at me, his eyes focused on the look on my face. "Touchy about our vehicles, are we?"
I glared at him for the insinuation. "Don't you even think about it." I growled, jumping back into action and attacking once more. It was his turn to be on the defence as I hit him rapidly with hit after hit.
Red Son jumped back a bit and I ran after him, slamming the demon with the staff and sending him flying into the wall. With a growl, he leapt forward, kicking the staff from my hands. It vanished into a plume of white smoke and as Red Son landed, I made sure to knock out his feet from under him, forcing him to fall back.
The prince just barely rolled away in time before I could land a hit on his fallen figure. Before I could pursue him, I halted to a stop, my eyes widening. Balls of fire formed in his hands, the boy leisurely tossing one into the air with a grin.
It was my turn to run as he began throwing flames at my person. "Come on, staff! Fan? Anything?!" I stressed under my breath as I tried my best to summon any sort of weapon.
The False Fan materialized and I smirked. Nothing like using the enemy's weapon against their son. Damn, that's a weird thing to think.
Turning back to face the demon, I saw another ball of flames hurdling towards me. Swiftly, I swung the fan in its direction, a powerful surge of wind erupting from the weapon and blasting the fire back.
The fire went flying towards the lockers before the gust of wind broke down a section of the wall. I blinked at the destruction, not intending for that to have happened. But before I could think or even gather my thoughts, I was blocking another fireball.
That immediately hit the bike.
My eyes went wide at the sight. "Shoot." The fan dissipated into cloud as I looked down in horror at the sight. The following bout of wind caused by my defence had thrown it against the wall where the desks sat. The impact broke the wall and destroyed the bike.
In my moment of distraction, Red Son managed to hit me with his next attack and I flew into the garage door. Then my heart stopped at the surprised shouts on the other side of the door. I stumbled forward in time for the door to be lifted up, revealing Mei and MK on the other side in the delivery cart.
We stared at each other with wide eyes, Mei in shock as her gaze flickered between me to Red Son to the totalled workshop. My chest twisted at the gasp that left her when she saw the bike. "What... What are you doing here?"
Before I could answer, Red Son cut in. "You don't want any part of the Demon Bull Family? Fine, then, be miserable and pathetic with the rest of these peasants!" He snarked before surrounding himself in flames that quickly vanished along with him.
It quickly grew quiet as he left. MK was quick to put out the flames that remained of the fight, but the damage was done. Mei went to her bike, though it was now melted and charred. The exhaust pipe was bent out of shape and part of the handlebar had broken off somewhere.
Slowly, I approached the girl, my hand outstretched to reach for her shoulder. "Mei, I'm so sorry..."
"Why couldn't you wait?!" She spun around to face me, her anger laced with tears that brimmed at her eyes. "I told you I'd come get you, why did you come back?!"
My hand retracted as I tried to say something, anything, but the words got caught in my throat. I hadn't seen Mei this furious before. "You always have to control everything, why can't you just trust that I was trying to do something nice for you?!"
Her words punctured my chest, like arrows they twisted and made my teeth clench in pain as my throat swelled shut. Glaring at me one last time, the girl ran off. I moved to follow her but MK held me back by my arm.
I frowned, understanding his action and stepping back. I'd make things worse if I tried following her right now. "...How long has she been working on the bike?"
"She's had it at her place for a couple months now, she told me about it this morning." MK looked down, his words another arrow that now hit me in the back, between my shoulder blades and made me tense. Months of work, and I just...
My fist clenched, I glared down at the ground. I really screwed up this time. That was blatantly obvious. I just hoped I could find a way to make it up to her.
~~~~
I hadn't heard much from Mei the next day, not like I expected to. Guilt pumped through my veins as I walked over to her house. Her parents were cool enough to let me in, though I don't think Mei told them what was going on. They did seem to know that their daughter was upset, and told me she was in her room.
Approaching the door, I knocked. "Mei? It's Lian, can I come in?" I waited for a response, but there was none.
With a sigh, I sat against the door. I wasn't really good at this. I could be straightforward, honest, but it was difficult when it came to talking about feelings. I can joke, be snarky about it, not a whole lot of things fazed me anymore so it was easy to not make a big deal out of them. But right now, that's what I needed.
"I don't understand why I did it. I know you wouldn't do anything to hurt me, but I just can't leave it alone." I looked down to my hands. "It's like knowing there's not a monster in the dark but still sprinting up the stairs when you turn the basement lights off."
My hand fell over my chest as I looked up to the ceiling. "I just get this ache. And it makes me afraid, but I don't understand why. It makes me feel this fear of what the people I'm closest with can do. I know you would never hurt me, but that doesn't stop the feeling from going away." I hated it so much, I wanted so badly to learn to stop it, but after years upon years of it's presence, I've grown to accept it wouldn't go away.
"But it's no excuse for ruining your surprise." I frowned, turning to glance at the door. "I'm sorry, Mei. I really am." I waited for a little while longer, but there was no answer.
With a sigh, I got to my feet and headed to leave. As I did, I passed the games room. Memories of our sleepover came back to me, and I exhaled. I'm supposed to be the one looking out for her, and I just made her hurt more.
Scanning over the room, my eyes landed on one of her dragon plushies. My brows furrowing, I took the toy into my arms. I had to make this up to her.
~~~~
The workshop was still pretty banged up when I got there. I definitely had my work cut out for me. That didn't matter at the moment, though. The next night, I spent hours hunched over my desk, running to and from the many cabinets and shelves that held our various tools and screws and materials, and occasionally petting the soft dragon plushie of Mei's.
I'm not exactly sure how long it took. Monkey King dropped off a plum or two... I think? MK came over once with some of Sandy's tea, but the next time he came over he brought some energy drinks. I was getting into the zone, my surroundings blurring into obscurity as I worked to complete the—
"Lian? Lian!" I jumped at the voice, startled by how close it was. Looking up, I saw Mei standing over my desk, her hands in her pockets as she looked at me with a frown. "...Why did you take my plushie?"
I blinked a few times, adjusting to what I was seeing. "Oh! Mei, sorry for not telling you. I was leaving your house the other day and saw it. Inspiration kind of hit and I thought..." I fumbled with my hands as I looked around for the little control I made earlier.
"Sorry, I haven't tested it yet." I mumbled, continuing my search until I found it on the floor with some papers I must've dropped at some point.
Mei watched me with a neutral look, albeit with some confusion as well. I grabbed the control off the floor, showing it to the girl the little trinket. It was a little charm of her dragon blade. Taking Mei's hand, I placed the charm in her hold. "Now, what's the opposite of down?"
"Up?" Mei furrowed her brows, her confusion growing until she heard the faint whirring on my desk. Her eyes went wide seeing the little dragon plush hovering in the air.
With a sigh, I leaned back on my chair. "...Y'know, I couldn't really say this before without giving away the whole 'immortal' thing, but you know I helped with the design for some of our first engines?"
Mei remained silent, looking instead at her plush that slowly hovered towards her. "I can tell you about it if you want, maybe we can fix up the bike while I do?"
Mei looked around my workspace, then back to me. "Maybe... you should get some rest, first."
I looked over my space with an amused huff. There was litter everywhere, a small hill of energy drinks stacked over one another on my desk that had started dropping onto the floor. "Yeah, maybe I should." I stretched, an involuntary yawn breaking through as I did.
A frown settled over my features. "I'm really sorry, Mei."
"I know you are." She responded, holding her plush in her arms now. She looked away, her eyes on the ground. "...There was a second part to the gift. It's a—"
"No, don't tell me." I cut her off. "You can surprise me later." I smiled, the girl giving me a surprised look.
Her shock only lasted a few moments before she smiled as well. "Hmph, if you're okay with it."
Standing up, I wrapped the girl in a hug. She reciprocated, her arms wrapping tight around me as she rested her head on my shoulder while I did the same.
"But seriously. You should really talk to someone about what you told me, it was concerning."
"Heh... yeah, I probably should."

dungeon meshi ch 89 blathering
Y’all. He found a fucking way to eat the demon. Many chapters ago Laios had that whole revelation about the demon being a force of nature and there is no real way to “defeat” something like that. Something that has come up at least three times in this series is digestion stopping reformation. 1) the dragon meat being reclaimed by the dungeon vs the meat that was consumed, 2) Falin’s reincarnation being botched due to her being digested to such a degree, and 3) the phoenix meal. There may be others but that is what I can recall from the top of my head. And then he went and said this last chapter
Tumblr media
Human desires. He really went and got the demon to turn him into a nonhuman and now he’s free of the demon’s influence and has possibly trapped the demon in his human body: something defeatable and consumable..

The GunShip
Sand-Punk Survivor Ch. 6
January 21, 2023
Ch. 6 Ruins of Hell
I now realize why it was so hot in ruin. In the final battle, there were several other legions of troops that had gathered outside ruin for an all-out assault on the capital. My GrandParent fought a large Black Dragon with red eyes, who released a large spew of ghostly spirits when it was slain! Demons literally started fires in the middle of the town square to get cozy on a less than a sweltering day. Basically, anything less than 100 degrees is too hot for a demon of any kind. Their gardens consist of large thorny bramble and lava flowing around them. Mummified corpses lie everywhere. Lizard people work as police and Bureaucrats in this hellish oblivion.
In the city square, there was a large Fountain of Blood that when we turned it off turned into a deep complex of underground tunnels which ultimately led to a cave of ants who were the aliens from the beast jungle. Their exo-skeletal bodies looked like they were made of moonstone crystals and seemed to glisten in the light. The Human-sized Ant lit up a Supernatural size joint with a piece of candle wick. What brings your kind down here. Have you come to take this ancient vessel and blow up this sacred temple? No! but if it is a ship I would love to get off this crazy planet!!!
"Instresting..." said the ant pondering it in Buddhist-like meditation. "I have been meditating here guarding this ship for decades My ancestors guarding it here for millennia, but now it is time to move on for I am both the match and the flame!!! They said in a wise and mystical voice.
They Hopped into The Ancient Ship whose dusty engines powered by distilled demon blood started up in about 4 seconds, just like new. The other members of the crew contained crab guy who had lost an eye in the battle with the Golems at Black Onyx Temple, he did however make a damn good Vegan caviar sushi though. Hanuman had a broken heart from leaving his family in the beast jungle. Once he became prince Hanuman after the conflict he started making Goa trance techno and seemed to stop worrying about them. Ant-Mon was an expert Engineer/ Martial Arts expert and a huge help to our expedition after this point. Batman who served as the medic for our ship and served as our radar using their echo location at times. And just like that, we were off what became of Rayuba and the Rayuban Coast? Who Knows?

Little Red Fox (ft. Raikoo), Ch. II
The finale (Chapter 2) of "Little Red Fox," a fan fiction story.
Things proceed as normal for the fox friends… until one peaceful night…
Word count: 2,443 – Character count: 13,778 Drafted / Revised: October 2nd, 2022 –
I'd been wanting to write some sort of friendly, romantic, fun story, but I tend to get bored easily.  So, for now… this is all!
Raikoo and related characters and concepts created by © Joshua Gannon Joseph Lithius and related characters and concepts created by and © Jo Li
[ ← Prev. Chapter | Next Chapter → ]
    “You’ve entered the Hall of the Queen of the Demonweb Pits.  Her spider minions claw and click against the damp dirt in their tunnels while the demon goddess, herself, sits upon her throne of bones.  As you approach, she waves for her minions to hold.     “’What does this one want of the Demon Queen of Spiders?’ she asks.     “Her dark beauty has captivated man and woman alike while her reputation has terrified entire nations.  She is a betrayer of all and a primordial evil unto the world.  She can’t be reasoned with, bargained, or bought, yet you stand in her court… alone.  What do you do?”         It had been about two months or so since I first met Raikoo.  In that time, we’d ended up hanging out in real life several times as well as spending plenty of time chatting online.  For the most part, we just generally chatted about video games or movies, though the topic occasionally turned to books and even our day-to-day lives.  We were both pretty adamant about avoiding that last topic – though likely for different reasons.  Still… once-or-twice, we ended up confiding in and helping each other through a rough day.  We’d become a lot closer over that time, too.  This was both good and bad.  It was good because that meant we could do more stuff together, like hang out at each other’s places and play D&D.  But, it was also bad because…     “I… try to seduce her.”     It also made me more likely to be silly… or to flirt with her.
    “You… you try and…?”     Raikoo laughed from behind her Dungeon Master’s screen.  She put a hand over her face, shaking her head.  She almost couldn’t believe I’d suggested that.  Almost.     “Roll for Persuasion,” she chuckled.     I rolled a 20-sided die and…     “9.”     Raikoo flashed a wicked grin my way.     “Your seduction attempt… fails!” she told me.  “The Spider Queen laughs at your attempt to woo her before calling her spider minions to devour your flesh.”     “I’m guessing I can’t fight my way out of this one?”     “If you’d like?”  She smiled.  “The Spider Queen has minions unending, though, and you’re right in the heart of her lair.  It’s extremely unlikely that you’d make it out alive.”     “Deus ex DM?”     She giggled at my suggestion before telling me, “It’s game over, I’m afraid.”     “Can I shout something to the Spider Queen?”     Raikoo rolled her eyes.  “Roll for it, I guess?”     I rolled the die again.     “6?”     “Your words go unheard amidst the clicking mandibles and skittering claws of the spider minions.  Not to mention the squish of your flesh and clatter of your equipment as it hits the ground.  If it’s any consolation, though… the Queen does keep your war hammer as a memento of your time together, however brief it may have been!”     “The dice betray me,” I said as I poked my D20.     “That’s just how it is, sometimes, I’m afraid.”     I smiled at Raikoo.  She smiled back.  Then, that was that.
    “Why in the world did you think you could seduce the Demon Queen, Joseph?”     “Oh, I didn’t,” I answered as we cleaned up the Dungeons & Dragons stuff.  “But, I like keeping you on your toes.”     She squeaked as I goosed her, then she turned around and lightly smacked my arm.     “You’re a naughty fox, Joe!” she shouted with a grin.     “You know it, Rai-Rai!”     Her grin melted into a smile and her tail wagged.  I think she appreciated that “naughty” side of me.  Or maybe she just liked being surprised.  Who could say?
    Once the campaign papers were sorted into a file folder and the game pieces placed into a game box, the two of us retired to the living room… where we already were.  My apartment was pretty small, honestly.  Regardless, I sat in my big chair while she flopped on the couch.     “So, now what?” she asked.     I tilted my head in thought while she looked on, expecting something profound.     “Wanna make out?”     She covered her mouth, giggling like crazy and kicking her feet against the couch cushions.  I loved that I could make her do that.     “We could snuggle up and watch a movie?” she suggested after she calmed down.  “I like snuggling with you.”     “I like snuggling with you, too,” I told her, getting back to my feet.  “You’re like a squishy hot water bottle that hugs back!”     “Thanks?” she said with a snicker and a smirk.     “What movie do you wanna watch?”     “Dragonheart?” she asked, sounding unsure.  “Yeah… yeah, Dragonheart!”     “Alright.  One second, then.”     I walked into my bedroom around the corner, looking for my laptop computer.  When I found it, I returned to the living room and sat next to Raikoo, who had gotten herself upright while I was gone.     “Do you wanna make some popcorn or something?” I asked as I loaded a streaming site on the computer.     “Mm.”  She shook her head.  “I just feel like chilling out, tonight.”     “Okay.”  I nodded.  “Then, let’s chill.”
    Within a few minutes, I had Dragonheart streaming from my laptop and onto my modestly-sized flatscreen television.  Raikoo quietly snuggled up against me and I wrapped my arm around her shoulder.  The two of us watched Dragonheart from start to finish without interruption.  Once the movie was over, I looked at Raikoo and noticed… she was looking up at me.     “What’s up, pup?” I playfully asked.     She softly shook her head before sitting up and snuggling in a little closer.     “Hm…  You’re in one of those moods, huh?”     She blushed under her fur, looking down and folding her ears.  She was so cute…     “Alright,” I answered.  “You know I’m always up for a nice cuddle with a good friend.”     Her tail wagged and she hid her face against my chest.  I guess she’d been looking forward to being cuddly.
    So, at this point, I should probably mention… Raikoo and I were just friends.  Like, despite my flirty behavior and how often we hugged and cuddled, neither of us pushed things any further.  She knew most of my flirtations were in jest and, now that I’m reminiscing… I don’t think she ever returned any of them.  Sure, there were occasions where I got her all squirmy and she was basically bubbling with a fondness for me…  And, honestly?  I’m not sure why I never took advantage of those situations.  I’m pretty sure she would’ve let me… to a point, I mean.  But, for whatever reason… we always let the temperature of the room cool before things got “too warm”… if you know what I mean.     Thinking back, we had come a long way since our first meeting.  I felt honored that the girl trusted me so much.  She even let me touch her tail!  Yeah, I know that doesn’t sound like much, but Raikoo seemed like a “traditional” kind of girl.  You know… the kind of girl who gets flustered by the thought of holding hands with a guy like me?  I guess that’s why I generally kept my hand above her waist.  Gotta be respectful of your friends…
    Anyway… once we had gotten settled, Raikoo rested her head against my chest and closed her eyes.  As usual, I let my hand run along her hair and down her back.  I liked petting her as much as she liked being petted.  It was nice… calming… and just a pleasant way for both of us to relax after any kind of day together.     “Today’s been a really good day…” I whispered.     Raikoo softly nodded.  Her arms were on my chest, her hands were on my shoulders, and her ear was pressed against my heart.  She liked listening to my heart beating.  I got flustered the first time she did it… but since then, It’s been kind of a staple of our downtime.     “I got to spend the day hanging out with an awesome friend…  Having lunch and playing D&D…  I can’t think of a better way to end today than with some friendly cuddles.  And maybe a little scritch.”     She giggled and gently battled at my hand as I tried to scratch her ear.  She usually liked it when I did that.  I guess she just wanted to lay there and reflect, though.
    “Today’s been such a great day…”     She murmured in response.  I softly yawned, my body relaxing underneath hers.     “I hope there’s more days like this…” I heard her whisper.     “Mm… yeah.”     I yawned again.  My eyes were getting heavy.     “You’re so warm, Rai-Rai…”     She made a small sound in response.  I think.  Honestly, I’m not sure.  I was getting a bit drowsy, all of a sudden.     “We should do this… more often…” –
    I awoke with a start.  It was pretty dim, wherever I was, and something warm was laying on top of me.  I removed my glasses and rubbed my eyes before trying to figure things out.     Okay… I thought.  I was in my apartment, laying on my couch…  I… nodded off?     I quietly hummed.  When I moved my hand, the thing on top of me shifted.     Raikoo was with me… I continued.  So that means…     I looked down.  There was just enough light for me to see the silhouette of a fox ear poking up.  I reached down, gently caressing what felt like a soft crown of hair.  When I heard Raikoo sigh in her sleep, I blushed.     Well.  This is new.     As odd as it seemed… I guess Raikoo and I had spent the night together.  We had… never actually done that, up to that point.  Huh.
    I know.  I know.  Some of you are probably calling “bushwa” on this one.  But remember: Raikoo can be a pretty shy girl.  During our first meeting, she was ready to leave two different times because she didn’t want to “overstay her welcome”.  Amusingly, once we’d warmed up to each other, I actually did offer to let her stay overnight.  She always thanked me before declining.  I don’t blame her, either.  Over those two months, she had gotten to know the real me… and, if I’m being honest?  I wasn’t exactly hiding my, uh… “true nature”… from her.  Yeah… I could be kind of a lech, at times.  I never pushed it too far with her, though.  No, I liked pushing it just far enough to get her giggling and flustered.  I think I’m just repeating myself at this point, though.     My point is: Raikoo and I had never occupied the same place together, overnight.  But there she was… peacefully sleeping on top of me without a care in the world.  I probably would’ve left her there, too… if I hadn’t been reminded of why I woke up so suddenly.
    I… gotta pee…
    It was a nightmare situation.  I knew… absolutely knew… that if I woke Raikoo up, she would try and leave.  I dunno if she had work or anything – I forgot to ask – but I knew she would find some excuse to leave.  I didn’t want to wake her… but I also didn’t want to pee my pants.  Doubly so with her laying on top of me.  I was pretty sure that would wake her up, besides.  So, against my selfish judgment… I gave her a little nudge.  And then, I froze.     My nudge… had gotten me a nuzzle.
    So… alright.  Once in a while, I’d be petting Raikoo and she would kind of nuzzle her head into my hand?  But that was it.  She had never actually nuzzled into me, like that.  It was enough to make me blush, again…
    “Raikoo…” I whispered, nudging again.     “Five more minutes…”     I blinked.  That was… a pretty clear response.     “Wh– are you awake?!” I sputtered.     There was a long… long… pause.  Then, she whimpered in a tiny voice…     “Y… y-yes…”     I didn’t have time to respond before she pushed herself up and off of me.
    “R-Raikoo…?”     I called her name in the darkness.  It sounded like she was going somewhere.     “Raikoo, where are you going…?”     I turned on a nearby lamp, flinching as the bright light hit my dilated eyes.     “Raikoo, wait!”     I looked over, my ears folded.  She had made it halfway to the door before I caught her.     “Raikoo…”     She was hugging herself with both arms and her tail.  Why did she look so guilty…?
    “Raikoo,” I said as I stood up.  “What’s wrong?”     “I’ve… I’ve overstayed my welcome,” she simply told me.  “I need to go.”     “I mean… if you need to be somewhere, tomorrow?”  I frowned.  “But, Raikoo…?”     I smiled, then I walked over to her, kneeling and looking at her face.     “If you’re just leaving because you’re afraid I’m bored of you, or something…”     “I wish you wouldn’t kneel like that…” she sighed.  “It makes me feel awkward.”     “How else am I going to look into your pretty, purple eyes and admire your cute little face up close?” I said, half-teasing.     “Could you not…?”     I blinked again.  The shortness of her answer caught me off guard.     “What’s wrong, Raikoo?” I pressed.  “Tell me.”     Her ears were folded and she wouldn’t look at me.     “Raikoo…?”     I reached to poke her… and she suddenly spun, taking my hand into both of hers.     “Alright,” she said, stiffly.  “You know the old cliché of two friends becoming closer and closer, then eventually becoming more than friends, right?”     I blinked yet again.  “Y… yeah?” I answered.     “Well…”  She bit her lower lip.  “I’ve been thinking about it a lot, lately… and about us.”     I stayed quiet, looking at her muzzle.  She had a serious look on her face.     “I… I…”     She whimpered, her face and ears growing visibly red.  Then, she blurted out…     “I want you to ask me out!  O-on a date!!  O-okay…?”     Guess what?  I blinked.  And then… I simply said one word: “Okay.”
    After I gave my answer, simple as it was, I watched Raikoo go through a bunch of emotions.  She looked stunned, then excited.  She looked happy, then confused.  She looked unsure, then angry.  Finally, after several more shifts in emotion… she let go of my hand… then she scooted over and wrapped her arms around my shoulders, hugging me tightly.     “H… huh…” she whispered, sounding amusing.  “S-sometimes… I guess it really is just that easy… isn’t it?”     “Emotions are never easy,” I whispered back, holding her.  “But sometimes?  They can lead to some pretty fun experiences.”     She smiled.  I did, too.  Then… we totally made out and had pancakes.
    I’m kidding, of course.  Though, we did have pancakes that morning…  Regardless, that’s the tale for this time.  Come back another time if you’d like to hear more!  Adios!

just poking some fun at myself because i realised that a lot of my favourite characters (if i had to pick ONE per series) have similar personalities.
i think it can be summarised quite succinctly by Jewel’s words “provoking wretch!” towards Sky (Towers of Illica, Ch 7)
extended quotes below the cut:
When he saw Lindal’s grim face and straining arms above him, he shrieked.
‘Be quiet!’ Lief whispered.
‘But the woman of Broome is lifting me!’ cried Rolf in horror. ‘How could you let her lift me? She and her kind are demons who dance on the bones of Capra! She is not worthy to—’
‘Shut your mouth, Rolf! hissed Lief.
But Lindal had heard. ‘I am happy to drop you if you wish, Capricon,’ she called.
Deltora Quest 3: Dragon’s Nest // Ch 17
... there was a tap on the door and Sky sidled into the cabin.
‘I have come with an urgent message for Britta the pearl thief,’ he drawled with a mocking smile. ‘Or should that be Britta the turtle witch, terror of the Silver sea?’
Star of Deltora: Towers of Illica // Ch 16
[Allun] dragged Rowan’s pack towards him. ‘You can spend your time usefully by holding the map for us while we look at it again.’
‘We have seen the way we must go,’ frowned Bronden. ‘We do not need the map.’
‘Ah, youth, youth! You must not forget that I am three years older than you, Bronden,’ smiled Allun. ‘And my poor memory is failing fast.’
Rowan of Rin // Ch 6
‘Rescuing your prisoners was not my main task, you know. The slays on the lower floor are all dead, Kyte—as dead as the real Vrett, whose name badge I used to make a fool of you.’
‘As dead as you are about to be!’ Kyte shrieked, her eyes blazing with rage.
‘Ah!’ Sholto raised one eyebrow. ‘Does this mean your kind invitation to breakfast no longer stands?’
The Three Doors: The Silver Door // Ch 26
One of the guards rode close to Gilan. He had lost three friends to the Rangers’ arrows during the attack that morning and he took every opportunity now to crack his spear shaft painfully across the Ranger’s shoulders and back. The fourth time he did so, Gilan turned and looked up at him with a peculiar smile.
‘What are you looking at, foreigner?’ the guard demanded roughly. The smile was a little unsettling. A prisoner shouldn’t smile at his captors like that, he thought.
‘I’m just making sure I can remember you,’ Gilan told him. ‘Never know when that might be useful.’
Ranger’s Apprentice: Erak’s Ransom // Ch 36
Tsukishima: *pulls off an insane block*
Hinata: Tsukishima :D!!! That one point was worth one hundred points!
Tsukishima: If you’re a middle blocker, you try it too :)
Haikyuu! // S03 E04
Cyber Controller: What is your name?
Ten: I’m The Doctor
Cyber Controller: A redundant title. Doctor’s need not exist. Cybermen never sick.
Ten: Yeah but that’s it! That’s exactly the point! Oh, you’re a clever man. I’d call you a genius, except I’m in the room—but everything you invented you did to fight your sickness, and that’s brilliant! That is so human!
Doctor Who // S02 E06
Viren: We are here to discuss some rather weighty matters. Will your regent be joining us soon?
Aanya: I speak for myself now, and for my people.
Viren: Yes... this is a very serious situation... I intend no offence, but these issues require an adult perspective.
Aanya: It seems I’m a crown without an adult, and you’re an adult without a crown.
The Dragon Prince // S02 E05
Obi-Wan, hanging on a ledge: *shoots Grievous until he dies*
Obi-Wan: So uncivilised.
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
