100 follower special event✨✨
Tumblr media
Hello babies🌸🌸( tis the name I have dubbed thee)!
First and foremost I would like to thank you for liking my content enough to actually follow, let alone having me reach 100 followers. I hope you keep enjoying my content in the future and keep on supporting me. I make it my mission to make sure that everyone reading my work feels loved, included and happy. That is one of the main reasons I always try to write gender neutral stories and refrain from describing physical features unless requested. I hope that in the future I am able to write for female characters as well to broaden my demographic. I hope you know that I love each an every one of guys very much.
This is the post for my 100 follower special. It took some time to figure out exactly what I wanted to do since I really wanted to something special for you all. I hope you guys enjoy this special event and bear with me since this is my first time doing this. When the event is over I’ll upload a google form that I’d appreciate if you filled out so that I know what to change when I hopefully hit another milestone.
The event will be held from the day this is posted and will continue for the whole month. Which means 4th - 31st August 2020 according to the CEST time zone. I will no longer take request starting from 11:30 pm on the 31st, seeing as I most likely won’t be able to produce something I’m proud of while on a time crunch. I probably will close it early if there aren’t that many requests since I start school in a week and have many important exams. That’s why my requests are currently closed. Everything that has to do with the special will be tagged with #100 special. My guidelines still apply during the event.
If you would like to be added to a taglist for a specific group, person, anime, character, for questions only, prompts only or everything just send me an ask or a dm :)
BTW I started writing this post at like 5:30 pm and finished at 2:12 am. ngl I wasn’t writing between 8 and 10 pm since I was busy helping my parents. That’s still a long time tho...
When the event is done:
I will link this in my masterlist.
Every prompt that is written will have a list of names next to it. Every name will be a link to the post.
I will edit the layout of this post so that my legend, that I add to every masterlist to symbolize what kind of post it is, will be there.
n e wayz😗
For my 100 special I will be making a Prompt list, a Q&A and redraws + art

Turtleneck Sweaters
Here’s a fanfic of the pairing between my builder, Victor; @dads-typo‘s builder, Alex; and Arlo! We call it Varlex because it sounds cool but they’re all dorks
This work is also on ao3 -----
Victor had stayed the night over at Alex’s workshop after a particularly wonderful night, and he was woken up by Alex shifting.
“Victor,” Alex called out. “You gotta let me up. I’ve got work.”
“But you’re so warm!” Victor protested, huddling himself closer to Alex. “Five more minutes? Please?”
“I guess since you said please…”
Victor made a happy sound, and Alex appreciated the next few minutes of warmth and comfort before sighing.
“Alright, Victor, come on. I gotta get to the Commerce Center before Higgins gets there.”
Victor whined, but he let go of Alex, and Alex got out of the bed and started to get dressed.
“I guess I gotta get to work too…” Victor frowned, sitting up and brushing his hair back.
Victor started to get dressed in the clothing he had worn the night before, and he had just gotten on his button-down shirt before Alex stopped him.
“You can’t possibly be thinking about going out like that, right?”
“Like what?” Victor questioned.
“Like <i>that</i>,” Alex gestured towards Victor’s neck, and Victor brought a hand up to it and grinned.
“I mean, I can always unbutton my shirt more,” Victor teased. “Show off more of those lovely marks you left on me.”
Alex flushed brightly and turned away from Victor to grab a turtleneck from his closet and shoved it towards Victor.
“Just wear this,” Alex ordered.
“I’m probably going to end up stretching it, you know,” Victor pointed out.
“Doesn’t matter,” Alex said, still flushing furiously. “Just put it on.”
“Fine, fine,” Victor removed his button-down and put on the beige turtleneck. “It’s a little tight, but it fits. And Gust will appreciate me dressing a little nicer than usual.”
Victor grabbed his leather jacket and put it on overtop the sweater.
“Am I looking good, babe?” Victor asked, doing a dramatic twirl while Alex basically devoured him with his eyes.
“Yeah…” Alex said, though he blushed and looked away once Victor made eye contact with him.
“Well, I like that reaction~,” Victor commented. “Shame we’ve got to get to work, otherwise I’d suggest a round three. And also I don’t wanna get yelled at by Gust for being late again.”
That coaxed a laugh out of Alex.
“You’d stop getting yelled at if you arrived on time.”
“I don’t need your logic,” Victor joked, and he rolled his eyes when Alex chuckled. “I just need you to kiss me before we got to go to work.”
Alex obliged, and Vice smiled into the kiss.
“Thanks for the turtleneck!” Victor said once they parted from the kiss. “You’ll probably never get it back.”
“As long as you wear it…” Alex sighed, and, when Victor left, he wondered if it was really worth hiding the hickeys if Victor was still going to be that insufferably hot.
Victor made it to A&G Construction, and he was, in fact, on time. He was going about his normal workday when Arlo entered into the store.
“Oh! Arlo!” Victor grinned. “Welcome to A&G Construction! What can I do for you?”
“I, uh,” Arlo did a once over of Victor. “W-where’d you get that turtleneck?”
“It’s one of Alex’s,” Victor answered. “I think he was embarrassed by the number of marks that he left on me last night.”
Victor demonstrated by pulling down the collar of the turtleneck to show off just a few of the hickeys had been piled on his neck.
Arlo swallowed, and he followed Victor’s movement as he pulled the turtleneck back up.
“But surely you didn’t come in here to ask me about the turtleneck. So, what can I help you with?” Victor asked, and Arlo racked his brain for what he had come into the building for before he got distracted by Victor.
“I’m here to check on the development of something,” Arlo said, not really remembering what that something was.
“Oh! You mean the development of the Civil Corps outpost in Southblock, right?” Victor reminded, and Arlo nodded.
Victor brought out the documentation of the outpost and started explaining a lot of jargon that Arlo didn’t really understand, but he did his best to listen regardless.
“And we’ll probably need some carbon steel bars for the supports. Alex isn’t going to like that too much. Remember his rant about it? Unfortunately for him, it’s the best reinforcement material, so he’s gonna have to head to the mines to grab more iron if he takes on this project.”
“There’s no one I would trust more to do it,” Arlo stated, and Victor nodded in agreement.
“Well, care to take the commission over to him?” Victor asked. “Afterall, we’ve finished the blueprints for the assignment.”
“No problem.”
“Great! One more thing,” Victor grabbed onto Arlo’s harness straps and pulled him down into a kiss. “There we go! Now, off you go!”
Arlo wordlessly left with the commission in hand and went off to search for Alex, both to give him the commission and complain/praise about the turtleneck he’d given Victor to wear.
Arlo eventually found Alex and gave him the commission after Alex accepted it. After going over what the commission entailed, Arlo changed the subject.
“So, uh,” Arlo started. “About that turtleneck Victor was wearing…”
“I know,”’ Alex said. “But it was that or have him walk around town with half of his hickeys on display.”
“The hickeys might have been better,” Arlo admitted. “Alex, he <i>pulled down</i> the collar to show me some the hickeys you gave him and then pulled it back up.”
“Oh god.”
“I think he was trying to murder me.”
“Well, at least he probably won’t wear it again after today,” Alex said. “And he’ll go back to his regular attire.”
That seemed to be the case for the next week or so, but, one day, Victor wore the turtleneck again. Alex and Arlo just about died when seeing Victor wear it again, and it may have led to more...intimate actions.
And then Victor continued to wear it, almost always at the times his boyfriends least expected, and it was starting to take its toll on them.
“The sweater has to go,” Arlo prompted after he and Alex suffered through too many near-deaths at seeing Victor in the sweater. There was even one point where Victor had worn a <i>blazer</i> with it, and that was just too much.
“Agreed,” Alex nodded. “He’s too hot for his own good.”
With the two of them in agreement, they developed a plan to get the sweater back from Victor.
They invited Victor on a date, and Victor met up with them in front of Alex’s workshop wearing the accursed sweater along with some black jeans with various tears in them paired with combat boots.
"So, what were you two planning?" Victor asked with a grin. "Going to the Round Table? Hanging around town?"
"We were thinking of going down to the docks," Alex said.
"The sunset is supposed to look beautiful from down there," Arlo added, and Victor went a little pink.
"What are we waiting for then? We don't want to miss the sunset!" Victor declared, grabbing Arlo and Alex's hands and starting to walk towards the docks. "So, how has work been going for the two of you?"
"Good," Arlo answered first. "Or, at least, there haven't been any major threats recently, and, while it makes my job kind of boring, I'm glad that Portia is safe."
"And you, Alex?"
"I'm finishing up on that Civil Corps outpost. I'm guessing Arlo's going to be getting busier after it's installed though," Alex admitted.
"Probably," Arlo agreed. "But that's why we're going on a date now. I don't really know when I'll be able to accompany the two of you like this again."
"You need to hire more members," Victor recommended. "You've got to give yourself time for breaks."
"That's pretty rich coming from you, Victor," Arlo countered. "You're just as bad."
"Worry about yourself first, babe," Victor advised. "Alex, I'm glad you, at least, know how to take care of yourself."
"You only say that because you haven't seen him passed out next to fishing spots at three in the morning," Arlo said.
"I'm trying to get king fish for the museum..." Arlo defended.
"You can do that without staying up until you pass out."
"Anyway, Victor," Alex promptly changed the subject. "How has your work been going?"
"Gust has made me redo this one blueprint, like, eight times, and I swear to god if he makes me redraw the entire thing again because a line wasn't straight, I'm going to lose my shit," Victor complained.
"Same as always then," Alex joked, and Victor laughed.
"At least QQ is supportive of my efforts."
"What about Albert?" Arlo questioned.
"He's technically my boss, but he's a lot more chill than Gust is," Victor answered. "He's usually the one going out and about doing errands, so I don't actually see him as much as you would expect."
There was a moment of comfortable silence before Victor spoke up again.
"Hey, Alex, think you could give me a couple of finishing tips when we reach the docks?"
"Course. Do you have your fishing rod with you?"
"Who do you think I am? Of course, I do," Victor answered. "Also, race you two there!"
"Wha-?" Alex began to say, but Victor had already let go of their hands and was sprinting the short distance towards the beach.
Arlo and Alex followed after him, reaching the beach not that long after Victor reached it. Victor grinned at them, and he laughed good-naturedly.
"I win!"
"You got a head start," Arlo countered.
"Can I still get a kiss though?" Victor asked, directing his puppy eyes in his boyfriends' direction.
Arlo sighed in an exasperated manner, but he smiled lovingly.
"Sure," Arlo agreed, and Victor received a soft kiss from Arlo, and Victor giggled almost mischievously once he received the kiss, his cheeks tinting pink.
"You two, Alex?" Victor asked, going over towards his other boyfriend in the hopes of getting yet another kiss, and, of course, Alex obliged.
Victor grinned victoriously once the kiss was over, like he had won the best prizes in the world. He was completely ridiculous.
They reached the dock, and, since it was about an hour before sunset, they fished for a while, Alex delivering on his promise to teach Victor a couple tricks when it came to fishing, and Arlo appreciating the way the activity allowed him to relax since, well, there wasn't that much trouble Victor and Alex could get up to just by <i>fishing</i>.
It was actually peaceful, and Victor managed to catch a fish or two in the hour they waited for the sun to start to set, going to sit at the edge of the dock once the sun had begun to reach the horizon.
The sunset was beautiful. The sky stained itself with red and pink hues and the colors bounced off the water of the ocean in a way that made the ocean seem like it was glowing. Victor was leaning against Arlo's shoulder while holding Alex's hand.
Victor brought Alex's hand up to his lips and kissed the back of it, prompting a blush from Alex.
"What was that for?" Alex asked, and Victor smiled in a way that could be construed as shy.
"Wanted to," Victor answered, and he brought Alex's hand back down into his lap.
It was so sweet that Alex almost felt bad about what he was going to do next. Just almost.
Once the sun had set, Alex stood up, letting go of Victor's hand in the process.
"Well, that was nice~" Alex announced, turning around and then promptly 'slipping' wherein he fell off the dock and into the water.
Alex's head popped up just a moment later, not really giving Arlo or Victor time to worry about him.
"I'm fine!" Alex announced. "Just a little wet..."
"Soaked more like," Arlo responded, helping Alex out of the water.
"Are you okay?" Victor fretted.
"I said I was fine..."
"Yeah, but you're gonna need to get out of those clothes," Victor said, already bringing his hands to the hem of Alex's shirt and pushing it up. "Though I do like the look~"
Alex blushed at the comment as well as Victor's careful removal of his shirt.
"Here, have a towel," Victor said, wrapping the towel around Alex and gently rubbing his skin dry.
"Why do you have a towel?" Alex questioned, getting a little bit caught up in the intimacy of Victor drying him off.
"Well, sometimes you've got to clean up spills, right? Water, some juice, and, well, cum, of course, but you didn't hear that from me," Victor winked, and Alex rolled his eyes. Yeah, that would be why Victor would carry around a towel, wouldn't it?
"We literally just heard it from you," Arlo pointed out, and Victor laughed.
"I mean, we can always spill some stuff here," Victor teased. "I've got condoms and lube with me as well~"
"When don't you have that stuff on you?" Alex asked.
"I've got to be prepared," Victor answered. "Never know when I'm gonna get down and dirty with someone."
"You only have sex with Arlo and me," Alex said.
"You think I haven't pulled Arlo into some back alleys to have some fun?" Victor mentioned, and the flush on Arlo's face said that Victor was absolutely telling the truth. "You can always join in if you want to~"
"Though, some of the places have been a little too cramped for three people," Arlo said.
"That's true," Victor pondered, and he took off his sweater. "Guess we're gonna have to find some new places."
"W-we shouldn't have sex <i>here</i>!" Alex protested, flushing brightly at Victor suddenly taking off his sweater.
"I mean, probably not, but you still need a change of clothes, yeah?" Victor commented. "And, I don't exactly have a change of clothes on me, and I doubt either you or Arlo do, but you've got to get in some dry clothing."
Alex took Victor's sweater as he handed it to him, putting it on. It had definitely stretched out since Alex had given the sweater to Victor, but now it was big in a comforting way, fitting like a boyfriend sweater.
Alex glanced over to Arlo and nodded. They had completed their mission. They were free of Victor wearing the turtleneck sweater. And Alex had gotten his sweater back.
The next day, Alex got a cold. Really, what else did he expect to happen when he purposefully made himself fall into the water in a scheme to get Victor to return his sweater?
It was a weekend though, so Alex didn't have to worry about work at all, so he refilled his water bottle, ate what he could, and went straight the fuck to sleep.
He woke up eventually, feeling marginally better than he had that morning, and there was a knock at the door.
He should probably answer that, but comfy...
Alex started to gather the courage to get out of bed, but, apparently, he didn't need to as the person let themselves in. So it was someone with a key, which meant it was one of Alex's friends.
Or his boyfriends, as the case may be, as Alex could hear Victor's loud exclamation of his name resounding through the house.
"He might not even be here," Alex heard the voice of Arlo.
"Yeah, but I haven't seen him all day! He always does the inspection on weekends. I went into the Commerce Guild today, and even Antoine was wondering where Alex was."
"I'm over here," Alex called out, his voice pretty weak both from the sickness and having not used his voice all day.
"Oh, you're sick," Arlo pointed out the obvious.
"Hm-mm," Alex hummed.
"We didn't wake you up, did we?"
"It's fine," Alex croaked out. "Needed to eat soon anyway."
"We can get you some food!" Victor proclaimed. "What do you want? I'll head over to the Round Table and grab something for you."
"Anything is fine..." Alex said.
"Even steamed potato fruit?" Victor joked, and he laughed at the grossed out face Alex made.
"Anything but that."
"Alright, alright, alright, I'll come back with food you actually like," Victor stated. "Arlo will look after you while I'm gone, won't you, darling?"
"Of course," Arlo agreed.
Victor left to grab some food, and so Arlo was left alone with Alex.
"Your water bottle is getting pretty empty," Arlo mentioned. "I'll refill it for you."
Arlo refilled the bottle and returned back to Alex.
"Do you need anything? More blankets? Pillows? I can head to the Clinic to get some medicine if you'd like."
"Arlo, I'm fine," Alex insisted. "It's just a cold."
"I know, I just want to take care of you."
Alex buried himself further into the covers, his face going pink from the statement.
"Thanks..." Alex mumbled.
"It's no problem at all," Arlo responded with a soft smile.
"Don't you have work or something though?" Alex asked.
"What, I can't take my break to take care of my sick boyfriend?"
"There's probably better things to be doing..."
"Nah, there's nothing I'd like more than to just take care of you," Arlo insisted. "I'm just glad you're not like Victor when you're sick."
They both remembered the last time Victor was sick. That was...rough, and for the sake of all of them, both Arlo and Alex hoped that Victor wouldn't get sick again for a good while. Or never get sick ever again, though that was a somewhat unrealistic wish.
It was around then when Victor returned from his trip.
"I got meat! And some fruit and vegetables if you're not up for eating anything super filling," Victor announced when he walked through the door. "And you probably shouldn't have coffee when you're sick, so I brought you some tea instead. It should help with the sore throat. Just let me know if you want something else or -"
"Victor," Alex interrupted because he knew Victor would keep going for ages unless someone stopped him. "Thanks."
Victor stopped, and he smiled brightly, practically glowing as he did so.
"It's no problem! Just say the word, and I'll do whatever you need."
"I think I just need to eat and then go back to sleep," Alex stated.
Alex ate what he could and then fell asleep to the sounds of Arlo and Victor having a conversation about something that Alex couldn't really keep track of, but the background noise was nice.
The next time Alex awoke, Arlo and Victor were gone, but there was a note that was clearly written by Arlo on his bedside table.
"Victor and I had to go back to work. We'll check up on you when we can. Take care of yourself! We love you."
There were a bunch of hearts all over the note that Victor almost certainly drew, and it filled Alex's chest with warmth.
Over the time Alex was sick, Arlo and Victor visited him frequently, but he also got visits from Nora and his other friends.
It was nice to be so pampered, Alex had to admit, and he quickly got better, going outside and heading over to the Commerce Guild to grab a commission.
“I haven’t seen you in a while,” Higgins snidely said. “Thought you had given up.”
“I was sick,” Alex responded.
“The competition was boring while you weren’t here,” Higgins stated before running into the Commerce Guild, and Alex was almost flattered that Higgins seemed to be concerned about him.
“Alex, it’s good to see you’re doing better,” Antoine greeted once Alex walked inside. “I was starting to get worried.”
“Yep, I’m all good now,” Alex confirmed. “Just here to pick up a commission.”
So everything went back to normal.
At least until a few weeks later when Alex walked into A&G Construction and almost died upon seeing Victor wearing a black turtleneck with red accents. That <i>definitely</i> wasn’t one of Alex’s.
“Hey, Alex~,” Victor greeted, his voice flirtatious to an almost over the top degree. “Anything I can help you with?”
“I’m...you...uh, you got a new sweater…” Alex pointed out, unable to keep his eyes from roaming up and down Victor’s torso and staring at the way the fabric clung to Victor’s arms.
“I did~. Do you like it?” Victor did a little twirl, showing off the sweater in all its glory, and it had Alex’s throat going dry.
“Victor, stop flirting with your boyfriend and get back to work,” Gust scolded, and Victor pouted.
“Fine, fine,” Victor pushed his hair back and soothed the folds of his sweater. “Welcome to A&G Construction! What can I help you with?”
Alex found himself thankful for Gust’s intervention, but, even without Victor’s relentless flirting, he still had to deal with the fact that Victor had apparently gotten himself his own turtleneck sweater, with absolutely no regard for the sanity of his boyfriend.
Actually, thinking about it, the destruction of his and Arlo’s sanity was probably exactly the reason Victor got that sweater.
“Arlo, I think Victor might be trying to kill us,” Alex said the next time he saw Arlo. Arlo looked confused, which meant he had almost certainly not seen Victor yet.
“What makes you say that?”
“He got his own sweater,” Alex informed, and Arlo’s eyes widened.
“Oh no.”
“And I don’t think the dock trick will work again.”

Clint and Steve were walking down the halls of the Stark tower as Steve was catching Clint up on their latest mission. Everything had worked out in the end, but that didn’t mean there haven’t been a few kinks along the way. A young Siberian man from the village they had been trying to save from invasion had recognized Bucky as the man that had tortured and killed his parents when he was a boy. He had attacked, before Steve and Bucky had gotten the chance to reason with him, resulting in his death as he was caught in the crossfire between the Avengers and the invaders.
Needless to say, Bucky hadn’t taken it well and honestly Steve was worried about him. He had been quiet all the way back and the instant they had reached the Stark Tower he had disappeared into his room. Steve had breathed a sigh of relief when Y/N had arrived. Bucky had been a different person ever since he met her. Well maybe not different, but more like the Bucky he had once known; the boy he had grown up with. Steve had hoped that her presence would help him somehow, but now that he heard the loud voices carrying from the Bucky’s room and towards the kitchen, he regretted being so stupid. Bucky wasn’t the same. Y/N had never seen him like this before and Steve should have known better. He should have stopped her or at the very least warned her what she was walking into.
It was too late now though as the door to Bucky’s room opened and closed with a loud bang and Y/N stormed right past Clint and Steve without as much as acknowledging their presence.
“Oh boy,” Clint mumbled looking after the fuming woman before his eyes met with Steve’s. “As much as I would love to send you after her, you’d probably have better luck with grumpy down there,” Clint nodded towards Bucky’s room with a smile. Clint turned around and followed Y/N before Steve had a chance to scold him, but Clint still felt the bitchface Steve gave him on the back of his neck. It’s only effect was the smile on Clint’s face widening.
Truth be told Clint has angered his own wife more than once as he brought the baggage of their job home with him. As pissed as she had gotten, her love and affection hadn’t wavered and Clint saw the way Y/N looked at Bucky. He knew hers hadn’t either. She just didn’t understand. She was a nurse and a damn good woman, but their jobs were something else. How could anyone understand what it was like to have someone rob you of yourself? Have you kill for them without hesitation or remorse. The truth was that no one could understand. Not unless they lived it.
Clint took a deep breath as he spotted her in the small park behind the Tower. She was sitting on the grass with her legs pulled up under her as she watched the ebbs and flows of the fountain before her. She didn’t look angry. Just like Clint had expected the expression on her face was one of agony. Bucky’s pain hurt her because she loved him. She had gotten angry because he wouldn’t let her in. He wouldn’t let her help. Clint had seen the same reaction in Laura more than once when they first met. It had taken him years to let her in and even now somethings were still hard for him to share with her. He couldn't imagine what it was like for Bucky. Decades of torture and killing, of course, he was afraid to let her see the darkness.
“Hi? Mind if I sit?” Clint asked, with a small smile as she looked up at him. She didn’t say anything she just shook her head quietly. Clint felt bad for her, just like he did his own wife once in a while. He understood why Bucky tried to push her away even if he was making a mistake. He even knew that was the exact thing Steve was trying to make him see right now. Y/N wasn’t stupid she knew what kind of a man Bucky was and she knew who he had been in the past and who he had been forced to become. She knew all of it and she chose to stay. Clint knew the argument Steve would make because it was the only one Bucky would hear. Y/N had the right to make her own choice. She had the right to decide what she could and could not handle.
“I don’t need your pity,” she mumbled as Clint sat down and he couldn't help but smile.
“Good cause I don’t pity you,” he answered and her head snapped around to look at him in surprise. “You knew he was a mess when you met him and honestly I don’t think you are the kinda woman that wants to fix him either,” Clint gave her a small nudge with his shoulder and earned a smile.
“I’m not. All he has been through made him who he is now. I love who he is,” she answered truthfully before looking back to the rushing water. “I just wish he would let me in sometimes that’s all.”
“He will. In time,” Clint assured her. He couldn't be sure of course but he saw the way Bucky looked at her. He loved her and trusted her. Him redrawing at times didn’t have anything to do with her even if Clint knew Y/N probably didn’t see it like that.
“Y/N even if it wasn’t him some of the memories are still there. All of them are hiding deep down. It was still his hands that kill those people. He saw it all happen powerless to stop it,” Clint explained even if the memories pained him. If they could help Bucky and Y/N maybe they were good for something.
“Clint I’m sorry…” she began but he just shook his head with a sad smile.
“No pity. Not for you. Not for me. Not for Bucky. He’ll pull through. Listen this life messes us up in so many ways, messes all of us right the hell up but we’ll push through. Bucky too. We’ll focus on the silver linings,” Clint sent her a wink giving her hand a squeeze. He couldn’t help but feel relieved when she laughed.
“I’m a silver lining?” she laughed, causing Clint to shrug.
“To Bucky yes. Laura and the kids are mine,” he answered with a grin as he got up offering her his hand. She took it allowing him to pull her back onto her feet. “Just try and be patient with the schmuck,” Clint grinned wrapping his arm around her shoulder, leading her back to the Tower and a hopefully calmer Bucky.
Y/N tensed as they reached the kitchen and Clint sent her a reassuring smile, nudging her towards the hall and Bucky’s room. “It’ll be fine,” he assured her, praying he wasn’t lying.
She took a deep breath before knocking on the door, slowly pushing it open. Her heart broke at the sight that met her. Steve was sitting in one of the chairs, his elbows on his knees leaning against his best friend. Bucky was on the edge of the bed hiding his face in his hands not looking up until Steve greeted her.
The shock and pain in Bucky’s eyes, when they met hers, took her breath away. A part of him would always fear to lose her each time she walked out of his sight, but today he had been sure he had.
“Hi Y/N. I’ll give you two some privacy,” Steve stood up giving Bucky’s shoulder a squeeze and Y/N a grateful smile before pushing past her out the door.
“Y/N. I’m sorry I didn't mean to yell at you like that,” Bucky spoke the second Steve closed the door behind him. He didn’t move though. He sat completely frozen as if he was afraid the slightest movement would spook her. Y/N felt as if a knife was pushed through her chest. She hated he still thought she could be scared of him. She never had been and she never would be. She knew that telling him that wouldn't make a difference, not right now at least. She didn't run away because he had scared her. She ran because she was angry and hurt he wouldn't let her help him. That he wouldn’t let her even touch him when all she had needed was to feel his warmth, assuring them both he was home.
“It’s fine. Couples fight,” Y/N answered quietly as she crossed the room to sit down next to him. They didn't look at each other, as they sat in silence. His right side was pressed against her left and their eyes fixated on their hands slowly edging closer to each other. They gently started to intertwine and not until they were, did Bucky look at her. His courage fueled her and she looked up to met his gaze.
“I can’t talk about this with you doll. I’m sorry. You’re…” Bucky paused not knowing how to explain it but Y/N just smiled.
“Your silver lining,” she grinned and Bucky raised his eyebrows in confusion.
“You’re my what?” he chuckled lightly squeezing her hand and Y/N pulled a face at him, before looking down at her feet almost shyly.
“Can you do something for me?” she asked. Her voice so low it was barely audible and Bucky’s smile fell. He hated seeing her hurting or sad, especially over him.
“Anything doll. Anything,” he instantly assured her and her eyes met his again. Still looking nervous, she chewed her lip and Bucky wanted to lean in and kiss her to make her stop.
“Hold me?” she asked quietly, making Bucky smile. It had been all he had wanted to do from the moment she walked through the door. He had been so incredibly stupid, pushing her away when he needed her the most.
“C'mere darling,” Bucky laid back on the bed gently pulling her into his arms. He relaxed, closing his eyes as he felt her fingers tender patterns in his chest. She was right. She was his silver lining and just one moment like this with her was worth all the pain he had gone through to get to this day in time.

Missed Classic: Asylum – (Almost) Lost (My Mind)
by Will Moczarski
Med Systems Marathon Overview: (a) 1980 Summary (b) Reality Ends (1980) (c) Rat’s Revenge / Deathmaze 5000 (1980) (d) Labyrinth (1980)
Map of the World
My next session is devoted almost exclusively to mapping. I try the silver key, the brass key and the inmate with all of the doors and get caught several times because only guards are allowed in the offices, I leave too many doors open or I walk into a trap. The offices are not even recognizable – whenever I go to the northeast (I assume) corridor, that’s apparently where they are. I soon figure out that wearing the guard’s uniform lets me walk that corridor unharmed but I don’t find anything new apart from four more doors I cannot seem to open. The inmate can pick one of the locks there but it’s only a trap: “Come in! Lobotomy time!” says a voice from the inside, ending my game once more, telling me: “You are now very calm.”
Am I really? I wish! There’s another obstacle posed by my friend, the lock-picking inmate. Whenever I start feeding him cigarettes at varying rates, he will turn on me and call the guards, that little traitor. After a while I notice that the building is somewhat asymmetrical, consisting of five corridors in the main part and a small loop in the east (I assume). The five corridors link into one another, making it impossible to map the construction by using generic tiles. I painfully redraw the whole map and try to make it fit somehow but maybe it’s just for the best to let the corridors coexist without linking them to some kind of non-functional structure. Or could it be…a pentagram? That seems likely but so far I cannot really get it to work. I’m not the cartographer I thought I was, obviously. At least I find a new room with another inmate. An ugly face appears at the grate and when I let the other inmate (my chain-smoking friend) pick the lock, he tells me that I sure am ugly and offers me his glasses. The glasses, however, turn out to be a novelty nose. I imagine something along the lines of the nose glasses from Zak McKracken and a hundred thousand junk stores.
As I don’t seem to be able to discover anything else, I set out to mapping the maze. This poses a problem as I’ve already hit the inventory limit (although the screen doesn’t look like I should have) and need to decide what I want to take with me. Because I get pushed into the maze with no means to go back, I need to carry everything I might need. I decide to leave everything that I’ve used at least once already – the hand grenade, the newspaper, the coat – but still cannot carry all of the keys. I’ll have to gamble a little more, but maybe I’ll see what I would have needed once I’ll need it.
What I get for being nosey.
Horrible Mazes
And it’s back to mazes. While Deathmaze 5000 and Labyrinth consisted only of those, Asylum has so far provided a more attractive framework. The maze proper is endowed with all of the niceties of its predecessors, as I will soon discover. Mapping this beast is nothing short of frustrating, and it doesn’t take long until I feel that maybe I belong in an asylum after all. The starting section is not too bad. I can map a small area but then I hit an invisible wall in the middle of a corridor. SPLAT! At least it’s not an invisible guillotine this time, and I get a chance to work on this puzzle. As my inventory is rather empty at this point of the game, it’s simply a matter of trial and error. And pretty soon I attempt to wear the novelty nose, as I still remember distinctly how the inmate described it as glasses. Maybe the mix-up is really down to a bug and the glasses will allow me to see something I otherwise wouldn’t be able to see? And that’s exactly what happens. Wearing the nose makes me see a small keyhole of sorts. It appears in the middle of nowhere but I won’t complain. Unfortunately, none of my keys seem to fit. Should I have brought the pin from the grenade? I resort to some more trial and error before restoring again, and I get lucky although I’m none the wiser for it. PUT PEG IN HOLE makes the invisible wall disappear and a box containing a bucket appears in front of me. The game also tells me that the mirror disappeared and that the water can flow freely now. What mirror? What water? Is it inside the bucket? Was it…oh right, the vanishing cream. Despite all these twisty little passages looking alike, I didn’t even think that the invisible wall might in fact be a mirror. Did I shove the peg up my own novelty nose then? If so, why did it accomplish anything? Am I doomed to be an invisible ageless, faceless, gender-neutral, culturally ambiguous adventure person forever?
The next part of the maze is much more challenging. I find a spot that feels like a teleporter but I can’t put my finger on the point where it actually begins to drop me elsewhere. Also, I don’t know anything about the dimensions of this maze – Labyrinth and Deathmaze 5000 were more outspoken about the features of their levels, if I remember correctly. Another obstacle is a revolving door. This one at least notifies me of its presence, and it seems to take me both ways which is a relief. Still it makes me erase and redraw more often than I’d like to. The only item I come across (apart from the bucket) is a bat. I assume that there will be monsters in the asylum, too.
Beyond the revolving door
After some more careful mapping, I come across a note. When I read it, it tells me to LOOK UP! If I try to do that, a piano comes falling out of nowhere and I’m dead. This is one of the many slapstick elements that the previous two games also contained – they appear to be part of the Med Systems corporate identity, or maybe William Denman was just a huge Laurel & Hardy fan in the 80’s. Not too far from the note I find some flies. My hands are full although I don’t seem to have reached the inventory limit yet which is odd. Looking at the inventory screen, I notice that there are three types of items: I carry the BAT in my hands, almost everything else in my pockets, and I can wear the coat and the nose (“being worn”). If I drop the bat, pick up the flies and then pick up the bat again, I can get around this little problem. Maybe it’s even supposed to be realistic: While my hands are full, (carrying the bat) I cannot pick up anything else.
Moving on, I spend some time figuring out how the revolving doors work. It seems that they are actually made up of four tiles and revolve both ways. If I enter from the left, I end up on the other side of them; I can also turn back which is unusually convenient for this game. Entering the doors in the same direction twice gives me access to a new area containing lots of corridors, nooks and crannies as well as a ball. As I already have the bat, this seems consistent. I really hope that there won’t be any Zork references like, say, a baseball maze. The section doesn’t contain anything else but the last part of the maze is packed with action. When I enter the revolving doors from the right I can reach the northeastern quadrant of my map which I was previously unable to enter or explore. Moving east, a “carpenter builds a wall” just behind me. Isn’t it enough to be shoved into the damn maze, game? Do you have to wall me in, too?
As if this wasn’t challenging enough, suddenly I’m being chased by a murderer. I can’t attack him, evade him, talk to him or bribe him. Because this is slapstick country, I find the solution quite easily: showing him the note (just giving it to him is not enough!) prompts him to look up, and he is crushed by a piano. How I manage to jump away without jumping away, I don’t know. At least the murderer is out of my hair. Also, he conveniently drops an axe in front of the newly built wall. Watch out, carpenter: Heeeeere’s Johnny!
A reference to The Shining makes sense in a 1981 game, as the film was released the previous year. However, the parser refuses to be my film buff companion: hitting the wall with the axe does not work, neither does hacking it. I have to BREAK the wall with the axe which seems a little odd but at least I’m not stuck anymore. Searching the section nets me a hat and a steel key. Could this be my ticket to freedom?
Indeed it is. After mapping the final sector (and not finding anything else), I go back to the entrance and unlock the door with my new key. I get back to the asylum proper but there may be some new doors I previously wasn’t able to unlock. As I’ve got way too many items at this point, I once again put the ones I’ve already used into my stash house. Let’s see where the steel key will take me!
We’re stealing the towels!
If all of this seems straightforward, just take a look at my session time after you’ve finished reading this blog post – this game is HARD and I have omitted much of my trial-and-error gaming. Also, my save feature did not work up to this point. Treading through the whole first maze every time I die slowly became unbearable, though, and trying another emulator finally gave me the opportunity to use the game’s original save feature.
The steel key lets me access seven new rooms. In the first one, there is a guru meditating. He uses the mantra “Omm!” which is nice and all but I’m trapped. I try to MEDITATE, SAY OMM(!), use my items, turn around, LEAVE ROOM, you name it. Nothing works, so I have to restore. The next room is empty. The third room has an inmate called Renfrow who mutters that he needs flies. Wow, what an easy puzzle! Giving Renfrow (is this an anagram? CAPs if someone finds out!) the flies works, too, but he just eats them and gives me nothing in return. How do I know that he eats them? Just wait! Instead of dropping an item, Renfrow gives me a hint: “The room next door…” Ahhh, the empty room? I know: something must have materialized over there, right? Is that my reward? I take a heartening (but shortish) stroll there and get pushed from behind (by Renfrow?), then that little traitor calls the guards. “Never trust one who eats flies!”, the game says. Right. As I was curious, I played through the whole scenario again, and figured out that if I lock Renfrow in his room before heading to the empty room, nothing happens. This is a very nice touch but I’m still not getting my flies back. Let’s take a look at those other rooms.
The fourth room has a fisherman called Blake who is wearing boots. That description is somewhat suspicious and I get the sudden urge to steal Blake’s footgear. If I politely ask Blake whether he might give it to me, to my surprise the parser understands me perfectly: “What may I have for them?”, drones the merry fisherman. Impressive! As I have no idea what a fisherman who’s locked up in an asylum might be in dire need of, I decide to brute-force it and simply offer everything I have to the man. And I will be really glad I did that, too. After my encounter with Renfrow (and the game’s snarky comment) I normally wouldn’t have given the flies to anyone else but that is actually the solution. Indoor fly-fishing, I suppose – am I correct, Blake? Whatever the reason, Blake drops his boots immediately, wraps them in a nice box for me to pick up and I can strut around in them for eternity. Well, at least for a few in-game minutes.
The fifth room has water pouring out but the boots provide a firm grip, saving me from being washed away. This was probably supposed to be a puzzle that I solved accidentally. My reasoning was that the inventory limit may be linked to the items’ categories (in hands, in pockets, being worn) and that wearing the boots might save a slot. I restore to see what happens if I enter the room with no boots on, and the water still comes pouring out but now I am being washed away. With the boots, I can safely enter and retrieve an “ancient key”. Could this be for the guru? Maybe it’s not a physical key but some kind of koan?
After leaving the room, I am instantly confronted by three figures – at least, that’s what the parser tells me. I am informed that Exodor, lantern and burro are seeking truth. Good for them, right? They follow me everywhere and at first I think that I can’t interact with them in any way. It seems that this is another set-piece situation and I have to solve this puzzle to progress. I get the first hint by examining the three of them. When I start with Exodor, the parser comes up with its standard “nothing special” reply. Examing the lantern and the burro is more informative, as the game tells me that I am not carrying either one of them. So they are actually items in search of the truth? That’s odd.
It takes quite some time for me to realize that I need to bring out my inner Ultima IV player to get through this one. The solution is to return the stolen boots, at least that’s what I think might be the reason behind this. If I give them to Exodor, he drops the burro and the lantern and vanishes in the air. I always like me a good lantern in an adventure game but what is this burro? I know that it’s the Spanish word for donkey but am I really picking up a donkey? Did I unwittingly stumble into the Bloody Lip on Woodtick? (I know, that was a monkey.)
Not a mirror. Can’t you see the difference?
Two more rooms to go: the first one is pitch dark and I can’t light my lantern. The second one leads to a maze that seems identical to the first one. I start mapping and get stuck in front of the very same mirror, so I restore and bring my novelty nose. That trick does not work here, though, and I lost my peg in the first maze anyway. This is strange – why would they lock the same maze behind two different doors needing two different keys? Or does it turn into another maze after I have solved another puzzle? I decide to tackle the guru first. The game appears to unlock parts of its storyworld everytime I find a new key, so I should probably solve all of the open riddles before moving on. I also try the ancient key on the remaining doors, but that one doesn’t fit anywhere. As it’s so ancient, maybe I’ll need it for the endgame.
The next part takes a LOT of time. I go over all of my notes again and try anything that seems remotely reasonable. After taking a long break, I read it all once more with fresh eyes and one thing that previously eluded me suddenly appears in a different light. Time and again, I kept coming back to the strange phrasing of Exodor, the lantern and the burro all seeking truth. Surely the lantern is an inanimate object but what if the burro really is a donkey? Who could help him to seek the truth? The guru, naturally. Handing the burro over to the guru actually works and the wise man turns out to be a fakir, too, giving me “nails for a bed” in return. Better than the asylum bunks, I suppose. At first I think that I still cannot exit the room but I am just disoriented by the darkness, and after a few turns I can finally leave.
Any more puzzles inside the asylum proper? Renfrow, maybe, but honestly I don’t think so; it may be time to see whether the maze has changed.
At least it wasn’t a banana that made the mighty Donkey Kong fall.
The maze to end all mazes
Spoiler alert: it hasn’t. Hence, I try everything with that stupid second mirror. Wearing the hat doesn’t work. Hitting the MIRROR does not work. Hitting the WALL does not work. Hitting the GLASS does not work, either. I try the same thing with the bat but – you guessed it – does not work. I play guess-the-verb for quite a while, poke the mirror, break the mirror, kick the mirror, you name it. I try to brute-force it by using (almost) every verb from the vocabulary. I also try to hit the ball into the mirror, throw the ball at the mirror, throw the ball at the wall and so on. After a while, my half-hearted attempt to hit the BALL with the bat … succeeds. Just like that. I curse so loud that a neighbour rings me up to ask if I’m okay. Oh brother, I’m not sure – I may be ready for the actual asylum.
Behind the “glass wall” which now shatters (oh, that’s what it was!) there is more mapping goodness. I assume that the second maze is the same size as the first one, meaning 20 by 23 tiles, and plan the map accordingly. I soon stumble across an anomaly that makes me suspect another teleporter. Apart from that, I find some gold, another wall is built behind me, I find some marbles and I encounter a gorilla. Nothing too bad, right? Right. The gorilla is not impressed by my bat and simply ignores me if I hit it with it. The nerve of that primate! However, he does not really attack me either, he just won’t let me through to whatever it is he is guarding. Having finished both Deathmaze 5000 and Labyrinth, I still remember that throwing things at foes is almost always a good strategy, and this one is no exception. After trying some more reasonable items, I finally throw the marbles and the gorilla slips, making himself vulnerable to my cold-blooded attack. Eat my unforgiving bat, you beast! (It actually took me a lot more time to figure out that I could hit him now that he’s not on guard but the story just works better cut short.)
Beyond the gorilla, there’s a copper key, presumably so I can leave the maze. But there are still some sections I haven’t mapped yet. I find two more puzzles, and both are set in very long corridors. One of them is a corridor of 11 squares containing some 20 doors. Upon entering the corridor, another worksome carpenter builds a wall behind me. For now, I am trapped here. If I enter one of the doors, I emerge into a twisty little passage with another door at the end leading back to the corridor. However, the doors don’t match up – this is a mini-maze. I set about mapping the entry points and the exit points but soon get confused as the newly-built walls make the two ends of the corridor look exactly the same.
The Door can see into your mind! The Door can see into your soul!
Adventure game trick #71 helps me out, of course, as dropping an item will provide a visible clue which side of the corridor I’m at. I systematically go through every door and don’t really get a feel for the maze, however that proves to be unnecessary. Behind the final door, there’s a box of matches (literally) and I can light my lantern now. The door at the end of the passage now takes me back into the maze proper but what about my item?! Oh no, I messed up. I’ll have to do it all over again but at least now I know the right door. Right? As I have last saved upon entering the maze, that is kind of a pain. And it turns out that I have to pass through every door instead of just the right one – there is no right one. This time, I duly pick up the dropped item (it’s the gold, in case you were wondering) before entering the last of the 20 doors – it works and I get out of there, matches and gold in hand, er, pockets.
The other puzzle is where I’m currently stuck. There’s another long corridor on the south end of the maze. If I move along that corridor for too long, a roadster races towards me and runs me down. There is nothing I can do. Of course, the obvious solution is to drop the nails and hope that the roadster will drive right into them. However, if I drop them in the middle of the corridor and turn the other way, the roadster simply approaches from the other direction. If I stay at one end of the corridor and drop the nails in front of me, nothing happens – I have to move to get the roadster’s attention. Now where is the gorilla when you need him? At present, I’m out of ideas. I’ll try to solve this puzzle for a couple more hours and if I don’t happen upon the solution, I shall consult the official hint sheet for the game. This is not a request for assistance (yet) but if you want to give me hints in rot13, I shall look at them if it turns out to be necessary. As I already have the ancient key (which doesn’t fit anywhere so far and sounds endgamish but maybe I’m wrong) I feel that the ending may not be too far away. I could be wrong, though, and Asylum could, like Labyrinth and Deathmaze 5000, contain three more mazes.
Evel Knievel got the best of me.
