Aight so this is fantastical and unserious as hell so you can ignore this if u want, but like what if one day reader just *poofs* and turns into a child, like they just de-ages and turns into their 7 year old self.

Lmao the reason why I ask this is bc I wanna see how deep his hatred of children goes, like would he extend this to a child version of reader?

You would be surprised to know, no. His patience is endless with you, although he is on the stricter side, he is loving and wouldn't dream to use the tactics he used for his child.

Yves would give you kisses, cuddle, and accompany you as long as you asked for his presence. The love he provides wouldn't be much different from the love you receive as an adult, except it's platonic, more handholding through life, more protective, and mildly overbearing. But you're a 7-year-old, you're fine with him being around you 24/7.

It's fun to be with him. He will talk to you, and encourage the development of your speech by conversing about random things. Even things that a 7-year-old probably won't understand, if you're a bit older, you would realize Yves is using you as his diary. But whatever he told you about himself is so boring, so it was wiped out from your mind.

You could just raise your arms to him and he will automatically pick you up, carrying you to wherever you want to go. Or simply having you on his hip while he runs some errands.

Yves utilizes timeouts, calmly explaining what you did was wrong and describing possible consequences if you continue. He will also hear you out, letting you defend yourself and give him your reasoning. The interaction will go smoothly and both parties will have plenty of communication. Once the whole ordeal is over and you sincerely apologize, he will hug you and let you stay in his arms for as long as you want. You could cry, you could smile and laugh. He allows it.

His praises will be genuine, happy that you are showing your best behavior for Yves. He doesn't have a narrow path for you to follow, he allows you to choose your interests, your passion, and will. Unlike his actual child, he would let you try playing the harp or piano, but he wouldn't force you to be a master in it. Yves believes that you should try everything, but it is ultimately up to you to decide what to do.

The two of you would bond by cooking and baking. You could make a mess and he wouldn't lock you in a sensory deprivation chamber. He will make you understand that for every mess you make, you have to clean it up. Yves will teach you valuable skills while strengthening your relationship with him, producing a lot of precious core memories in your life.

He will help you through your emotions. Sometimes you can't express yourself as well, but he will help you recognize if you are angry, sad, excited, or hurt. Yves will talk you through and ease the pain your soul is feeling, helping to regulate your emotions for you. Nothing will seem confusing, as long as Yves is here, you know you will be safe. And everything will be okay.

He coddles you a lot. Cooing when you get hurt, giving kisses to your bandaged wound, wiping the tears off your face. Sleeping in the same bed as you because you're scared of the monsters in the dark, never leaving your sights because you have crippling separation anxiety. Yves lets you learn everything at your own pace, even if you haven't hit a milestone that you were supposed to years ago, he is fine with it. He will continue to care for you, teach you with gentle words and touches, and love you to the fullest.

Yves lets you be a normal kid without any of the horrifying consequences. You will feel valued and loved unconditionally. You will be heard and you will be seen.

His actual child would be furiously punching in the air watching how he treats de-aged you.

Been walking around a lot today so I figured I'd write about some headcanons about walking with some of my faves!

Going to upload this in a few parts (about 4-5 characters in each one!)

Characters: Albedo, Al Haitham, Ayato, Capitano, Childe, Dottore,

Gender neutral reader (referred to as 'you'), platonic friendships with the listed characters (unless you consider handholding to be inherently romantic), just some cutesy bits about walking around with them!

Albedo enjoys quiet on his walks, he stops a lot to look at things that interest him, to take notes and the like. He walks at a bit of a meandering pace, with you by his side. I imagine that he can be a little touch averse so he's not super into the idea of holding hands or anything like that, but he'll call you over every now and then to look at something of interest, he won't make you feel silly for asking questions, he's super kind and gentle when explaining things when he's got a low-effort whole body activity like walking to do at the same time!

Al Haitham is a fast walker, he'd probably leave you in the dust without realising. He can be a little flighty/unsure about walking somewhere without a set destination in mind, but after a few walks he begins to notice that taking a break from his studies to get outside and walk about really does help him let out some of that anxious energy. He's probably also kind of touch averse (especially on hotter days) but he might be okay holding hands every now and then, especially if you're somewhere crowded or busy.

Ayato doesn't often get time off to just wander around aimlessly, so he revels in going on nice long walks - especially in places that aren't very crowded, he loves nature walks especially. He almost subconsciously offers him arm out for you to take when the terrain underfoot gets rocky or uneven because he's just a gentleman like that. He's a fast walker, but a steady one - I'd imagine that while he doesn't love crowds, he's a very good person to walk behind when there are a lot of people bustling about simply because of how much of a presence he holds, both in terms of his physical height and appearance and his high-ranking status as the Yashiro Commissioner! He'll definitely treat you to boba and snacks if you're out at the markets!

Capitano goes on a lot of walks, he's a very physically fit person so his morning routine probably consists of like a 2 hour jog or something intense like that. He's not very talkative, he's more of the 'silent company' type, where you both just walk side by side, but he'll stop and listen to you if you have something you want to say or point out. He won't actively seek out physical contact, but he won't actively oppose it if you initiate it, he's kind of laid back in that way. He's very pleasant to walk with I think, he'll contently listen to you as you ramble on about whatever is on your mind.

Childe is like a little kid, darting about a few paces ahead of you as he checks out every single little thing - he loves walking around markets or forested areas, anywhere where there's lots of things to look at and keep him entertained. If you turn your back for a few moments he's just suddenly run off to go talk to some random merchant or investigate a funky looking rock. He can and will just randomly grab your arm and drag you over to look at something he finds interesting. He also has no qualms about holding your hand and using you like a living, breathing fidget toy.

Dottore likes to observe - both you and the environments around you. He's big on people watching and will point out when he sees others doing strange or interesting things and come up with theories as to why they may be doing those things. Walks with him are pretty quiet at first as he acclimates himself to your walking routine, learns what your 'normal' patterns and such -- I imagine he can be very routine-oriented when he's doing things such as this, wanting to focus more on your habits and how you do certain things so he can log it. He'll let you do what you like, which includes holding hands or linking arms, but if you change things up from your normal routine he'll want to know why.

I wanna know where this claim that devs at capcom intended Ashley and Leon to be platonic is coming from, i really do.

cause if they did, they sure as hell contradicted themselves big time

There was an article written for Game Informer during the pre-release of RE4make where the devs talked about revamping Ashley's character from what she was like in OG, because they recognized that if the player hated Ashley (like many OG players did), they'd probably hate the game.

One of the things they improved re: Ashley was her relationship with Leon.

RE4make had two directors: Yasuhiro Ampo and Kazunori Kadoi

Kadoi wanted Leon to hold Ashley's hand during gameplay, but Ampo didn't like it and shot down the idea.

This is the exact quote:

The translation from the original Japanese quote to what was written in the English article seems... unpolished. The text of the article says that this was just an idea pitched during concept drafting, but Kadoi's quote sounds more like the handholding was something that was actually implemented in the game but then taken out when Ampo didn't like it. Without seeing the original Japanese of what Kadoi actually said, it's impossible to know what actually happened there.

We also don't know what Kadoi meant by saying "Ampo thought it looked like [Leon and Ashley] were too close." Fandom has taken it to mean that Ampo thought that Leon and Ashley looked too close in their relationship, but with how shaky the translation here seems to be, he could have just as easily meant that they looked too close physically and took up too much space on the screen in a way that negatively impacted gameplay.

But regardless of when and how it happened, the fandom took this quote from Kadoi and played a game of telephone with it. A lot of context and nuance is missing from Kadoi's quote to begin with, which made it really easy to twist his words. Personally, I don't see how Leon leading Ashley around by the hand like she was a child would be something that a grown man like Ampo would see as romantic -- it just comes off as patronizing and infantilizing to me -- but, again, there are pieces of this story that are clearly missing on top of the poor translation.

But even if Ampo did shoot down the handholding because he thought that they looked too romantically entangled or whatever, the fact of the matter remains that it was only just his personal, solitary opinion and objection. And from the way Kadoi tells the story, it sounds like he (Kadoi) is still a little bit miffed about it -- it sounds like it was something he really wanted to have in the game.

It also bears keeping in mind that Kadoi said this as a fun, throwaway little anecdote that was meant more as a jab at Ampo than anything else -- not a serious statement about intention that he wanted players to make note of.

So the biggest detail that's missing here is: the context for how and why this decision was made. If this was something that Kadoi wanted in the game so badly -- to the point of openly roasting Ampo about it in interviews with Western games media -- then why did he relent and let Ampo's word supersede his? For all we know, this was part of a compromise of "I let you have your fairy tale, but this show of affection is too far."

But we don't know. And we can't know. Because we weren't in the room when it happened, and Kadoi didn't give us enough information for us to know.

What gets lost here is that Yasuhiro Ampo wasn't the only person who worked on the game -- and, in fact, wasn't even the only director for the game -- and his view on this clearly does not seem to speak for the entire dev team.

So what started with Kadoi saying "Ampo specifically didn't like the idea of Leon and Ashley holding hands during gameplay" morphed into "The devs didn't like the idea of Leon and Ashley holding hands [at all]" which then got twisted further into "The devs wanted to make sure that Leon and Ashley's interactions were seen strictly as platonic."

But that's not what was ever said.

And to be completely honest with you, this is such a tangential nothingburger of a quote that I'm sure that Kazunori Kadoi's forgotten that he ever even said it. Fandom gives way too much weight to this inconsequential, unserious little side story of nothing.

I feel like in this fandom there is a lot of emphasis on proving that Izuku and Katsuki's relationship is romantically coded, as in, "there's no way [insert scene] is platonic" or "he's obviously in love because [insert dialogue]" and that's all fine and good. I happily participate in theorizing all the time because I'm rooting for the ship and at this point I genuinely think Horikoshi is planning something for them. But listen, I'm an aspec lil dude and I can't pretend it doesn't hurt my soul a little bit when the nuance of human connection is boxed up into the narrowly defined categories of "platonic" and "romantic." If we're being totally honest with ourselves, these are complicated, subjective concepts with a lot of overlap that's only differentiated by context. And if you've ever questioned your sexuality, you know how semantic it can get. What's in a glance, a handhold, a longing to have someone in your life?

Maybe you've never given it a second thought, maybe you don't really know what "queerpatonic" means. Generally speaking, it can be a lot of different configurations of not fully platonic and/or not fully romantic/sexual, or something beyond either. It is its own thing, really. It may describe an asexual romantic relationship, or the reverse, what could otherwise be called "friends with benefits." The way I like to think of it is this: there are a wide variety of ways intimacy can develop between people. Romantic and sexual attraction are just two of those ways. And even without the presence of attraction, many of the marks of intimacy we associate with it can still be present.

Izuku and Katsuki have whole lot, and I mean a LOT of potential to explore how their relationship could play out in this way. Going off and listing a bunch of headcanons is kinda self indulgent on my part, but I hope I can show some of you this potential, or at least broaden your perspective. And hey, maybe some of you are already on the same page and this will be as fun for you as it is for me :)

Ok, here we go ->

(cw: very mild vague nsfw mention)

Give me Izuku who doesn't really understand why interacting with girls is so embarrassing. It's the novelty more than anything; he doesn't... desire... things. Not like some of his classmates talk about. It's almost morbidly fascinating the way Kaminari and Min*ta go on and on. But when Izuku thinks back to moments where he was flustered and felt blood rushing to his face, it was all because of the theoretical implications, not his own emotions. Like, the theoretical implications of what a boy and a girl together could mean. Hypothetically. Izuku only dares let himself contemplate the issue in the privacy of his own room, where none but the most snoopy person with their ear pressed against the door may hear his mumbling as he asks himself what external forces could be pressuring him into embarrassment. As time goes on he gets more and more fed up with these societal connotations and resolves to drive them from his mind. He starts paying more attention to the dynamics of all his relationships, trying to pinpoint what genuine attraction might be, and he realizes something. There is one person in his life whose closeness makes his heart soar, but never race. Ever since he can remember. Is it even possible, Izuku wonders, to have a silly fumbling crush on someone you have known for almost your entire life? Apparently it is possible, common even, if all the osananajimi-themed romance stories are to be believed. This revelation is the most confusing of all. But after many sleepless mumbling nights, Izuku is left with this simple truth: he will treasure whatever he can get from Katsuki, whether they are merely rivals, friends, or the most important people in each other's lives. Whatever they are destined for, it will be more than enough.

Give me Katsuki who literally and figuratively doesn't give a fuck. Never spared a second thought for sex or romance in his life. Even if he did have the time, he doesn't care. Doesn't care what people think about that, either. Plus, to begin with, he sees getting close to people as a vulnerability, and vulnerability as weakness. I mean, we're talking about someone who couldn't even admit Shouto was his friend. It takes him a very, very long time and heaps of humble pie to start questioning that mindset. But when he does, it all comes crashing down around him. What's really important to him, if not just his own superiority? Who is really important to him? WHY. Why is Izuku always there at every turn, and why does he kinda not hate that anymore? Never mind attraction though, that's still not in the cards. This is something else. Izuku is like a fact of life, a necessity. Now that Katsuki is free from the burden of his own guilt over their past, he realizes that though he said he doesn't expect things to change between them, he wants them to. Almost dying for Izuku made him realize their lives are one and the same. With the physical reminders now on his skin to mark this fact, he feels a magnetic pull. He longs to hold Izuku, not just his hand but his whole form, solid and real and alive. He wants to never let go. But he cannot act, at least not yet. He'll keep up the guise of their rivalry, but only just, ready for the occasion when Izuku gives him a sign of wanting more. Then he will open his arms.

Give me Izuku and Katsuki who dance around each other quietly, delicately. At least, what passes for such in their terms. They're still loud and abrasive, but there's an almost imperceptible bubble. Maybe those closest to them might notice a certain hollowness and tension. How their conversations are like some zany improv skit. They’re hyperbolizing themselves, all while casting thoughtful stares when the other isn’t looking. Neither one knows how to proceed. Such a relationship as it has been is like a habit they lean into in favor of the abyss of the unknown that gets harder and harder to ignore. But they are changing. It’s invisible until suddenly it isn’t. Suddenly they come crashing together and it’s as if their intimacy has been there all along, unspoken, yet complete. They have so much to say, and a long awaited handhold to sum it up with. Horikoshi, grant them the time to put it all into words.

If there is a world beyond the war, give me Izuku and Katsuki who slow down enough to really listen. Not only do they to know each other instinctually, but deeply and utterly. And thus, they also know themselves. They have a physical language all their own built from years of fighting which grew into competition which grew into teamwork which grew into an inseparable symbiosis. But it doesn’t end there. Izuku talks to Katsuki the way only someone who has waited a lifetime for this moment can talk. Katsuki talks to Izuku like every word is a privilege he has been granted. Whether by crying or laughing or screaming or whispering, they listen in turn. Their relationship as viewed from the outside looking in is as confusing as ever, but for different reasons. Instead of wondering whether Izuku and Katsuki are friends or enemies, people wonder whether they’re dating. Friends and family swap stories in an effort to make sense of them. Shouto thinks they’ve been married for years. Mitsuki is certain a mother knows when her son is in love (No, she will not elaborate. She isn’t certain at all, actually.) Mina is running around gathering evidence for a kind of relationship gossip masters thesis. Her story changes at least once a month. Some of them may have placed bets. The media is the worst, with press constantly asking probing questions about their behaviors and shared lives. Fans ship them, obviously. As for the pair themselves, they actually get a kick out of messing with everyone. They use the term “partner” liberally, for both their personal and professional roles. Coy, barely deniable public displays of affection are teased, only to have their meaning denied. Katsuki’s shit eating grin is the bane of everyone’s existence, matched only by Izuku’s wide innocent eyes. This whole act, it’s payback for all the amatonormative* bullshit.

(*amatonormativity: the societal expectations and norms placed on people regardless of orientation to prioritize romantic relationships, inflating their importance and emotional value)

No one else would understand everything Izuku and Katsuki have shared. People would write it off as romance in denial. Or at least that’s what they believe. While playing the game in public, they explore their actual relationship in private, away from judging eyes. Every step of the way they talk through their feelings and comfort levels, which are not always aligned, but nevertheless accounted for and hashed out. There are times when they muse about language and meaning. Izuku finds he has a kind of attraction that sparks from time to time, a sudden, fleeting, burning fascination. Katsuki can’t really relate, but making Izuku happy brings out a particularly mischievous glee in him. Yes, that includes the pleasures of their bodies, but not in the usual way. It is mutual, but simultaneously separate, just another facet of their boundless familiarity. Mostly, they express themselves in subtler ways, almost subconsciously. In a rare moment of piece and quiet, they casually lounge together like a couple of cats. Drape an arm around a shoulder. Nuzzle into a chest or a neck. They figure they have a monopoly on holding hands; no two other people in the world could claim so much meaning in the gesture, nor hope to fathom it.

Bonus: Their loved ones are finally made aware of what’s going on through some dramatic scenario, barging in on a private moment probably, which has them begging for clarity. When it’s explained how the pair don’t feel comfortable defining their relationship by any traditional means, the general response is a resounding, “THAT’S IT? Why didn’t you say something earlier?!” Both Izuku and Katsuki are still loathe to give up their game with the public, though. In a way, all the ambiguity was a true expression of how they saw themselves. So as a way of reconciling, their inner circle is brought into the scheme. For example:

An interviewer sits across from Tenya on a nighttime talkshow set, shifting their weight and preparing to change the subject: “From what I can tell you’re still very close with your former classmates, correct? The whole lot of you have been causing quite a stir on social media lately. You must understand, from our perspective, one finds it hard to tell whether this is merely an inside joke.” A screen behind them flashes a series of tweets, beginning with a bold statement from Shouto. “Theory: my best friends got married for the sole purpose of making me their unsuspecting third wheel.” There’s a picture of the three of them eating dinner at a fancy restaurant. Tenya comments a stern reminder to respect their privacy. Inko shares yet another photo of her son and Katsuki sitting arm in arm on her couch with the caption “I know what you mean! They’re too cute to handle!” Ochako, Mina, and Denki are in the qrts all claiming one or the other is dating them instead.

“Perhaps you can shed some light on the subject?” the interviewer prompts. Tenya’s practiced emotionless expression hides an almost impossibly compelling urge to burst into laughter. With the glare of his glasses hiding the mirth in his eyes, he says curtly, “Ah. Deku and Dynamight? Yes, you’d be hard pressed to find partners as closely bonded as they are. Very admirable! But I can tell you with the utmost sincerity that it’s not what you think.” The interviewer visibly deflates. Well, so much for that.

Heya! What did you think of the latest Gotham Knights? I don't wanna ask spoilery or leading questions if you haven't seen it yet?

I was finally JUST able to watch it last night and it was craaaazy. There was so much Sharper, they used the word Sharper!

It was really strong Harper->Stephanie stuff, at least, we don't really know what Stephanie yet feels, she's very friendly and a bit flirty but not to the point of confirming anything. "Like a brother to me" should have shut the door on Turner/Stephanie, but then we have next week's preview...

Based on how TV stories are normally told, it still feels like Turner/Duela and Sharper are the stronger pairs. Given the many parts of this love square and that it's a 13 ep season, for Turner/Stephanie (if it is them and not Turner hallucinating) to already happen by ep 10 means it's not the big climactic romance and we still have three eps for more to play out with it all. Whatever happens first isn't "settled", basically.

Even if, we then get more activity for the other two ships only to come back to this one by the end of the season, it just feels extremely unlikely to me that they'd stick with this one ship permanently and leave Duela and Harper with no one. And not just because they've spent far more time developing Turner/Duela (what's their ship name, lol) and Sharper romantically than Turner/Stephanie. Hell, the Turner/Stephanie hug and handhold this ep were half for the purpose of letting us see Duela and Harper's reactions.

Still, two little obstacles to happy Sharper. That "you always go for the himbo or straight girl" talk from Cullen was interesting. The point of a discussion like that, well, the point of anything at all in fictional media is to prompt some kind of action or change. Here, it's made Harper take more seriously the idea that Stephanie is straight and not a realistic option for her and then being in the right (or wrong) place to have that seemingly confirmed by the handhold. We the audience know that was platonic (in the moment, lol, that damn preview--well, and to be fair, that one scene a few eps back), but now most likely the next eps will have Harper withdraw from Stephanie a bit, possibly to prompt Stephanie to then ask what's up?

The other possible consequence of that discussion is to make Harper and the audience really think it's true, that she only goes for unattainable people and should focus on opening herself up to someone serious, but, lol, who? There's no OTHER queer girl that we've seen and the only other guy she's not related to is Turner, which, that would be truly ridiculous. I mean, there's Brody, but she literally hasn't said a single word to him and how would he not fall in the himbo category, if Dylan does.

The other issue, of course, is the fact that when this was written, the CW was still giving blanket renewals, so the writers may have set up a cliffhanger or very temporary end to this season, confident in the knowledge they'd get another one, but in the new climate this could very well be the true end. Just gonna have to see how this plays out, I guess.

The very first time Orion ever held Carewyn's hand was after the dramatic Quidditch Cup Final between Slytherin and Ravenclaw. Carewyn had initiated it to offer comfort -- it was a platonic gesture, and nothing more. And yet, at the time, it had filled Orion with strange emotions, both because he was so unused to physical affection and because he'd just seen with his own eyes that Carewyn shared his Patronus. When he returned the gesture and tried to hold her hand, she fortunately didn't pull away -- and Orion found himself holding her hand for almost fifteen whole minutes afterward.

Whatever their Patronus forms might hint, he didn't think he could say definitely that he loved Carewyn. But he did really...really like holding her hand.

It made it so that when they met up again after the War, Orion felt more comfortable with taking Carewyn's hand or shoulder, even just platonically. She'd already broached that sea with him, so it was likely she wouldn't mind it too much, Orion reasoned. Even if by that time, he already knew he'd fallen in love, he could keep things platonic between them. He wouldn't pressure her to see things as he did.

And romantic or not...he did really like holding her hand. He liked feeling like he could comfort her -- help her find balance...when it felt like all she ever did was care about others and neglect herself.

When Orion and Carewyn finally did make their feelings known to each other in December, other methods of expressing affection were broached. Carewyn held Orion's wrist for the first time. She touched his face for the first time. She kissed him...and he, his heart racing, kissed her back. And each one of those things were things Orion enjoyed just as much as holding her hand did. He liked the connection it forged between them -- the open, warm, dedicated bond that now connected them, body and soul. It prompted him to experiment more -- trailing a hand through her hair; resting his head on her shoulder; kissing her on the cheek, forehead, nose, and neck.

And yet out of all of them, the gesture Orion still enjoyed most was holding her hand. With it being romantic, he could hold it differently than before -- run his thumb along the base of hers; enlace their fingers...even hold her hand in both of his, placing kisses to the back of it. Anything to bring that soft, relieved smile back to her face when tension had creased her brow.

Orion wanted to give Carewyn peace. More than anything in the world, he wanted this person who seemed to always have to play the hero, ready to fight for others, to be able to lay down her armor, take that breath she seemed to always be holding, and just be. To be happy -- be content...be herself, at his side, smiling and free. For nothing more was truly needed, in Orion's eyes.

And a simple handhold could communicate all of that, and more.

"You've been holding my hand for a long while now."

"You've been holding a heavy weight for far longer. ...I realize you must shoulder the burden of duty when you are at work...but please, do not strain yourself, trying to play Atlas. The whole world is not yours alone to fix...and you needn't carry the weight of it by yourself."

Orion had always been a free spirit. It was one of the things that had made it difficult for him to make friends as a young child, and even at school, it made it so that the vast majority of the student population just didn't get him. Once he'd become Slytherin Quidditch Captain, people just kind of saw the mystery of him as part of why he was so cool, and that attitude persisted once he was an adult and become the toned Star Chaser of the Montrose Magpies...but that still didn't mean he wasn't a bit eccentric, nor that it was always easy to figure out what he was saying.

One of the few people who became very fluent in "Orionisms," however, was Carewyn. She was probably the one who clued into his way of thinking the fastest of anyone else he'd ever met, in part thanks to her Legilimency potential, but also due to her intense empathy and their oddly similar thought processes, despite the differences in their personalities.

Perhaps it was for this reason that whenever Orion would get too stuck in his own head when trying to express himself, Carewyn would almost always be the one to translate.

"Orion thinks if you like Roxy that much, you should tell her how you feel," Carewyn told her ward patiently.

Erik didn't just roll his eyes: he practically threw them up toward the ceiling, with how impatient and flabbergasted his face looked as he whirled on Orion.

"For fuck's sake -- " he muttered irritably, slapping his hand over his forehead and eyes, before he blared out, " -- how in the bloody hell does that relate to an ashwinder?!"

"My metaphor may or may not have gotten away from me," Orion said serenely. "But it seems to have eluded you completely. Thank you, my Abraxan -- you are a most wonderful compass, on this sea of self-discovery."

Carewyn leaned in to brush his uneven hair out of his face so she could kiss his jawline. "Glad I could help, Captain."

this was Beka Cooper post-canon fic from 2011 and also the only het fic i ever wrote lollll though i then proceeded to publish nothing else for 8 years, i do still have a lot of fondness for this fic, and for the many, many het YA fantasy novels that have shaped the way i read and write

last fic published: a patient kind of guy

actually i lied, there's het in this fic too...specifically comphet, and the explorations thereof (it's a Be My Favorite fic, specifically a Pisaeng character study, nuff said). actually really proud of this one cause i like to think this fic showcases how far i've come in terms of being able to write angst, smut, humour, longing, and complex themes all in one 6k word fic

any fic i wrote for a ship only once: Five Times Wen Qing Writes to Jiang Yanli

huh, turns out i write quite a lot of ships only once, but i'm particularly proud of this femslash fic, firstly because in general there's not enough femslash in the world, and secondly because the MDZS ladies in specific deserved better!! also there's an incredible podfic recorded by some incredible people for it and listening to that was the COOLEST FREAKING THING

favorite fic for ship with most works: Thirty Years of (Someone Else's) Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!

you know what, i loved this ship SO FUCKING MUCH and this was hands down the most joyful cracktastic fic i've ever written and it's all about THE MAGIC OF FRIENDSHIP and yeah, if i could pick one work to remember of everything i wrote for these boys, it would be this one. sigh.

fic i wish more people read: Dad Joke

speaking of joyful cracktastic fics about the magic of friendship lolllll Macau and Chay have so much potential to be INCREDIBLE together as romantic/platonic co-conspirators and i didn't even realise until i finished writing this fic--this legitimately started out with me wanting to have Macau yell "it's a dad joke" about calling Pete 'dad' and then i woke up from my 24 hour writing fugue state with new, inconvenient macauchay feels lol guess the joke is on me (also i sometimes read this fic again and still laugh at my own jokes and i'm v proud of that)

fic i agonized over the most: Starving, Faithful

okay i'm sure i agonised over The Long Road Across The Wilderness - 荒尘渡 too (42k words of yi city boys on a big bang deadline ><) but FUCKING HELL the sheer amount of SCREAMING i did about the vegaspete post-credits scene for Starving Faithful man, and how it didn't ALIGN THEMATICALLY with how i'd conceptualised vegaspete in chapters 1 through 4 with the HUNGER and the OWNERSHIP and i rewrote that ending scene SO many times (with very patient, intelligent handholding from my incredible beta) and in the end just kinda went fuck it and gave up lol tbh i still have no idea if it's as resonant or consistent as i wanted it to be but overall i think i did pretty okay with that fic anyway

fic that sprang fully formed from my mind: Seven Years

444 words of Xue Yang character study that just flowed out in like 10 minutes inspired by this piece of fanart, one of the coolest collab and writing experiences i've had because i'm a plotter so that's basically never happened to me before and has never happened to me again lol (maybe i should actively look for fanart i like to see if inspiration will strike again hmm...)

work i am proud of: all of them. genuinely. i worked hard on every single one of those fics and at least one person has enjoyed reading each one of those fics, and i dunno i just think that's really, really cool. fandom is really pretty special <3<3<3

speaking of misinformation, i saw a lot of people say the devs removed handholding between leon and ashley specifically bc they wanted to keep their bond platonic / didn't want people to think it was romantic. finally found the article with this supposed quote and all it said was that one guy veto-ed the handholding bc he "thought it looked like they were too close and didn't like it" which is very vague. i don't care for word of god but i'm curious as to what you think they meant by "too close"

It's impossible to know without seeing what was actually said in the original Japanese.

I also don't care LMAO

The only person who has word of god is Shinji Mikami, and Mikami doesn't give a fuck. Hasn't given a fuck in almost 20 years. Is retired now and played the remake of the game that defined his career and went "I enjoyed that" and then went back to taking pictures of ramen.

Since Mikami's departure from Capcom, RE has passed through so many different directors and producers and dev teams that all have had conflicting visions and creative directions for the series that there is no such thing as "word of god" in Resident Evil.

Dev interviews don't matter because chances are that dev in question won't even be working on the next game -- or, if they are, they won't necessarily be in the same role.

Supplementary materials aren't canon because none of them are written by the same person or approved by the same team. RE doesn't have a Kazushige Nojima like Final Fantasy does, who's writing all the supplementary stuff all on his own and keeping it in line with each other.

So, chances are, all that shit ends up blatantly contradicting what's shown canonically in the games -- because, that's usually what happens. So you can't take it as canon.

(Remember, kids: If it's not said/written/shown in any of the essential canon games or movies, it's not canon.)

And in this case, like. Even without knowing what he meant by "too close" (again, we need to see the original Japanese, because he might have meant "too close" in a very literal sense and having them be that close to each other cluttered the screen and made it hard to see) either way, people saying "they" -- as in, a majority of the dev team -- didn't want the handholding to happen is disingenuous. It wasn't "they." It was "he." Because "they" rendered Leon taking Ashley by the hand in the first place -- he said to take it away.

So, like. Okay. He did that. That's cool. Good for him.

Still kept in all the shit about Leon being the knight rescuing the princess, though. And you know what happens at the end of the story, after the knight saves the princess? THEY FUCK They live happily ever after.

So whatever. If his intention was to not have Leon and Ashley read as a romance, he fucked it up by keeping all of the actual literal romantic elements in it, AND THEN RELEASING A MATCHING SET OF ALTERNATE COSTUMES FOR THEM LITERALLY CALLED "ROMANTIC" LIKE WHAT THE FUCK LMAO THIS JUST OCCURRED TO ME

Hey anon, I'm back! Oh boy did this take me longer than I thought. I was traveling for a while and then jet lagged and then sick, so so sick. Writing wasn't possible. But I really appreciate this prompt because this is the first thing I've finished in the new year and I'm ready to get back to it.

holding onto you

“I thought you said I was important to you.”

RJ swore that was what Alex had said, but he wasn’t going to repeat it for fear that his brain had somehow replaced Alex’s words with ones RJ had wanted to hear.

He was questioning his own hearing mostly because Alex was saying it in front of other people. They weren’t a secret, really. Bai Lang knew and would give RJ these embarrassing looks whenever he caught RJ daydreaming while looking in Alex’s direction.

But Alex had insisted that work was professional and had told Bai Lang the day after their second kiss (that actually counted) that he was the one who had to supervise RJ, that he couldn’t do it anymore. Alex said it in this exasperated way, like he was doing it because he was at his wits' end with RJ, but Bai Lang just grinned and said, “Sure.”

After that Alex would walk RJ home from the bar at night, back to his parent’s house where things were a little more settled. Every night, their shoulders would press against each other as if it was the cold night air that brought them close.

RJ had imagined a big sweeping change with Alex if he accepted RJ, but that wasn’t how it had gone. It was two weeks of quiet, close walks before RJ finally got up the nerve to reach out and grab Alex’s fingers. And that’s when they finally started holding hands under the soft glow of the street lights.

It was six weeks before RJ finally decided he wanted to see Alex’s apartment and asked to come over. Alex just nodded, as if he would have said yes at any point had RJ asked and that it simply had not occurred to him that RJ wouldn’t know that.

Things were easier when they were alone together at Alex’s place. He clearly liked privacy and was so much more relaxed at his home. The sudden change that was not tied to time, but place, was not what RJ had anticipated. It was more than he could handle the first time he had gone there when Alex casually slung his arm around RJ’s shoulders and it made his heart stop.

Even with this stolen time alone together, they progressed slowly. But that was fine with RJ. He had no idea what he was doing and Alex was so careful. Still, there was a close ease between them there. They sat next to each other, casually touching each other. RJ finally felt let into the secret world Alex had and anytime they were there together it made RJ foolishly happy.

But in public it was a different story, which was why Alex pointing out RJ’s feelings in the presence of all their friends felt daring.

And impossible.

That was probably why he couldn’t help whatever expression was on his face while they ate and drank after the rehearsal practice. RJ planted himself in the corner of a booth again, content to watch the excitement with a bit of distance. He hadn’t been able to take his eyes off Alex as he moved about the room getting drinks for people. He secretly hoped that if he looked long enough the truth of what Alex had said would be revealed.

“Everyone gather around,” Bai Lang said, as he motioned the group to the tables to sit down.

RJ was surprised when Alex moved to sit next to him, his leg pressed against RJ to fit into the small booth space. He was warm and solid against RJ’s shoulder and RJ wanted more than anything to melt into him. But he kept to his space, RJ understood Alex’s rules and he did not intend to break them.

“Life is funny,” Bai Lang said, raising a glass. “Sometimes you find the one you love in the most peculiar places. And that makes you think that maybe it isn’t right. You start making a list of all the reasons why not."

Jin Xun-An let out a little noise that sounded of equal parts annoyance and fondness.

Bai Lang directed his best cheshire cat smile only at him, but continued. "What I’ve learned, and what Jiejie obviously knew well before me, is that you can’t let all the doubts, all the reasons why not, get in the way of the reasons why.”

“I’ll always be right, Bai Lang,” Bai Qing called out with a huge smile.

“Yes, I know,” Bai Lang said, his expression equally full of joy. “Here’s to holding onto your why and not letting go.”

Everyone clinked glasses, murmuring agreements and wishes of a beautiful, happy life for the couple, despite the fact that RJ knew for certain everyone in this room was completely confused by the pairing when the news was shared with them. But that was exactly Bai Lang's point.

Alex’s hand paused slightly before he grabbed his own glass and took a sip. RJ had half expected Alex to make some sort of annoyed expression during Bai Lang's speech. He wasn’t one for public displays and anytime Bai Lang mentioned how much he cared for Alex or Jin Xun-An or his sister, Alex tended to roll his eyes and leave the room.

So it was especially unexpected when RJ felt a soft touch on his hand as it rested on his leg under the table. Alex was still looking at Bai Lang and Bai Qing, who were arguing over who gave the better advice and was the more loving sibling. But when RJ glanced down, Alex’s fingers were lightly resting on his wrist before they slowly slid down RJ's hand to wrap around it. RJ couldn't help but shiver at the contact. Even now, touching Alex like this was like a shot of electricity to his system.

Alex must have felt RJ's reaction because that's when Alex finally looked in his direction. RJ’s mouth was dry, his pulse rapid, his feelings of disbelief were warring with something like pure joy. He must have looked like he was about to faint because Alex shifted his hand and intertwined their fingers, holding onto RJ more solidly, as he pressed into RJ to steady him.

Alex shifted again to lean into RJ's ear so that he could be heard over the cheerful noises of celebration around them. This time, his words were firm and clear.

“You’re important to me too.”

The only real difference between platonic love and romantic love is feeling. You whatever you want with your friends. Hug them. Hold their hands. Kiss them.

You can’t gatekeep handholding and it’s ridiculous to try to say it’s just for romantic partners.

At first glance the drama doesn’t seem to be all that bad. It’s cliche predictable and cheesy, yes, but so is half of all the other dramas that are out there. I mean heck, It doesn’t take much to get me to watch whatever before I switch to something different. In this case the acting is sort of mediocre and the storyline is ‘meh’ up till episode 7. Didn’t bother me one bit. It wasn’t until after that episode everything went topsy turvey for me. Stories weren’t making sense in the the sense where in one scene there’s a conflict between characters and immediately after in the next scene after making such a great deal over a situation and not even addressing it, boom everything is back to normal. Friendships are mended, relationships are back to ‘platonic’ handholding. Nonetheless the first half isn’t quite that bad. Second half I’ll admit it’s oofing hard to get through but that’s where the ‘multiple couples’ storylines take off. So…..🤷‍♀️

STOP IT! they kiss and i kiss one of them and i kiss the other and we all kiss at once can't we be gay in harmony.

SO TRUE AND BASED. like i feel like some people have never grown out of seeing female characters as just obstacles to ships and it really fucking shows! like what about having a female yuu would make you suddenly unable to ship something? im really glad they decided to go with multiple mcs in the manga bc now there is just no excuse to say there shouldn't be a fem mc. also so real this is why the only good love triangle media (that's not the prince charming and juliet vocaloid songs that i listened to when i was thirteen. like there were a couple versions of mirishira's romeo and cinderella that were from the perspective of prince charming and juliet and listen that shit awoke something in me) is iron widow by xiran jay zhao because they just date about it
