Smile!
In Magia Record's re-run of the Nagisa's Wish event, Yuu has at long last been given a canon design, and she's adorable.
In the past, I drew a design for her myself (here, and here) based on the old silhouette they used and I talked a bit then about the similarities I saw between her and Nagisa's appearances. Have a look at those for context if you'd like, because I'm going to revisit that again here with her new look. Below the cut ↓
To start with, some of the things I pointed out on Yuu's silhouette as being shared with Nagisa's magical girl outfit did not survive to her final appearance, such as the fuzz around the edge of her neck frill, the shorts she wears, and the bows along her tails and across her frill.
Though the tails themselves which I compared to the pompoms hanging from Nagisa's hat did survive, that alone isn't enough to draw a connection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it seems unlikely that when Nagisa made her wish, her appearance was influenced by Yuu being the first and only magical girl she'd met up to that point.
We can scrap that idea.
However, the parts of Yuu that I noted as resembling Nagisa's witch form, Charlotte... those do still hold up. When you look closely at Yuu, she has rings in her eyes which aren't present when she isn't transformed, and we now know that she uses her horn as her weapon.
Charlotte has a pure white face and a split open mouth, like Nagisa's mother described her killer. This is the strongest piece of evidence which the rest of it is built upon.
Charlotte attacks with her face as well.
And admittedly, perhaps reaching a little here, Charlotte as a worm has a cone-shaped pointy nose that might resemble Yuu's horn.
They also just both have clown energy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Huh. Looking at these pictures I'm now wondering if I could draw a comparison between Charlotte's head wings and the bundles of cloth hanging from either side of Yuu's head.
...
Yuu was instrumental in Nagisa's transformation over the course of the story, from someone accepting of the abuse she experienced every day into a person seeking to cut ties with her family and create her own freedom, and then Yuu played the part of the person who mistakenly took Nagisa's agency away from her at the end which is what tipped Nagisa over the edge, so I like the idea a lot that Nagisa's grief made manifest from that event took a form that recognises the significance of the Sleepwalking Ghost.

None of you will understand how much this line means to me the raw energy of this line now that we KNOW what Yuu looks like...
the fucking ETHOS. Do you see that smile, next to Nagisas dull eyes, you can clearly tell, Yuu has no idea what she has done is wrong, in fact she things throught the entire rerun that she is in the RIGHT. It feels so different now that Yuu has...a face? You can almost feel her cheerfulness, her joy sharing that she will lways support nagisa, always being by her side, Despite us knowing this only makes Nagisa witch out Nagisa says before, she wants her mom to die, because she didn't wish her illness away, And Yuu took that, Without realizing what she did, Only to say shes by her side Its pain staking to see! But thats what i love about Yuu! The cheerful pain, because we know what happens next, It makes me think of beachside bonds too, Yuu saying she will be by Nagisa side, only for Nagisa to witch out... making Yus statement false. How many times has this happened? How many times has Yu unknowingly said this lie?

[Twisted Wonderland x Puella Magi Madoka Magica] - What to do when you reload in the wrong universe? - [HEARTSLAYBUL] - PART 2

Note: For some reason, formatting on tumblr is indeed a pain in the butt. Other than that here's an update
-----
It’s LUNCHTIME. The time when everyone would fistfight each other for the special meal of the day. Tbh NRC has nice lunches; it’s a freaking buffet, for goodness sake.
The group goes to get lunch, and things seem relatively peaceful. So of course, Grim starts a touch of chaos the moment Homura thinks it’s safe to let him go. Should’ve just kept Grim in a death grip until you got lunch, Homura.
By a touch of chaos, I mean Grim breaks someone’s (an upperclassman) carbonara spaghetti egg. And because NRC students don’t know when to pick their battles, they attempt to start a battle in the cafeteria (an awful decision, really).
Is Homura going to intervene? Am I going to make her intervene?
Yeah but not exactly in the way you’re guessing
She’s going to try, in her own way, to defuse the situation. This means as per tradition she’s going to actually make it escalate because Homura and persuasive speaking are like oil and water. Or maybe even like a grease fire and water.
Homura tries to bring up how stupid it is to, you know, fight with underclassmen over slightly damaged egg carbonara, of all things. An appeal to common sense (and a poke to their egos). Besides, weren’t they going to break the yolk anyways, since they were going to eat it? It’s a small, paltry thing to get so worked up about, in her all too blunt opinion.
This absolutely does not make the situation any better. In fact, it makes it worse, because now the seniors think they’re being condescended by a child.
Ace and Yuu think they have never seen someone so bad at defusing the situation they turn the fire up to eleven. Ace, however, is a shining example of a pot encountering a kettle and not realising it has shared traits. Perhaps this is also foreshadowing for Ace’s later unfortunate choice of language.
Due to plot convenience, these guys have about one brain cell rattling around in an abstract, collective shared mind space. They take one look at this kid and go “Freshman. Small. CAN TAKE ON IN A FIGHT.”
Actually, canon does kind of actively shove it in our faces how extraordinarily eager delinquent-type NRC students are to fight literally anyone. So maybe I am justified in making them try and fistfight a middle schooler.
They try to engage Homura in a fight. Aka they’re doing that thing where someone puffs out their chest and squares up (literally). Homura is trying to back out because:
She’s shown to be rather non-confrontational in canon.
In her experience, ignoring these people often works because they’re at least more bark than bite. (Or rather, Homura has sort of thought that by clamming herself up—metaphorically speaking—things won’t affect her as badly because before things…never really changed no matter how proactive she was (I am referring to both her past as a bullied child over something she had no control over, and her long-term experience with other volatile pubescent girls)
Homura would really like to not get punched in a cafeteria.
One of them attempts to get physical with Homura, who’s darting away as fast as possible. She’s not looking for a fight and would like to not show up to her next class looking like she just got in one.
Yuu is not having it. Deuce is not having it. Grim is not having it because while Homura scares him a little (read: a lot) he’s not gonna let these guys push around his #2 Henchman (henchwoman?). Ace is seemingly vibing in the background but actually, he high-key wants to see the guys get pummeled it’s a case of fire meets fire. Like, he’s a jerk himself but these guys were also jerks (also Homura is a little bit baby to him so it’s completely justified in his honest opinion.
Yuu is putting that swim training to good use by yoinking the offender’s arms and going “DO NOT.” Grim bites one of them. I don’t think he has magic rabies. Deuce wants to clock them but doesn’t because he’s in the public eye, so he just allows Yuu to go to town on them. Ace watches on the sidelines, noting Yuu’s great attachment to the girl with the magical equivalent of an automatic gun. He also thinks it’s hilarious that the mages are being bodied by the new non-magical student—conveniently ignoring the fact that Yuu most definitely never skipped arm, leg, and the rest of his body, day.
Homura is left wondering about the feeling one gets when people are willing to stand up for you. (She’s also left wondering if highschool would ever be as ridiculous as the one she was experiencing right now) Perhaps it’s a completely out-of-place feeling to be felt when watching someone body two people for you, but human emotions are irrational. To her, it’s a warm sort of feeling, even if she thinks she could’ve just dealt with it herself.
Mostly, I think Homura needs a few scenes to be protected, rather than constantly trying to be the strong one.
The fight is resolved, and everyone’s hungry. Yuu has an allowance for food and other necessities here because Crowley would get Mcmurdered Mcssasined in his sleep if the staff knew he basically dumped off a bunch of otherworlders into a large shack and called it a day. That and I ooc-ed him a little into someone that sees these kids/Homura and goes, ok maybe they need a little something, at least.
Just enough so that there are no additional PR problems. Or so he says to himself. Oh, he boasts about it for sure, but it sounds as phoney as always.
Elaborating on this: Crowley often boasts about his kindness/generosity when he’s…definitely not being generous. So I think when he is doing something because he actually cares, then he justifies it weirdly to himself. Of course, this is simply pure imagination, and not strictly in line with his canonically displayed personality.
I call it the “Homura sympathy effect”. When you see this emo little kid you just invite yourself in as her family/friend because it’s actually kind of depressing watching Homura if you observe carefully enough.
They finally buy lunch. Homura gets a plate of omurice. Yuu says it’s because Homura is a growing child. Homura is suddenly violently reminded that, yes, she can actually grow right now.
She does her best to not choke on her food. This means she instead stares blankly at her food as if she’s been confronted with a crisis of unimaginable proportions.
Oh god, Homura thinks, Madoka doesn’t exist. Oh god, she continues to monologue in her head, I can’t access my powers anymore.
(She can’t go back if something goes irreversibly wrong, wrong, wrong—)
The omurice, to her, tastes really good. The egg is fresh and creamy; the rice combined with the demi-glace sauce and the soft vegetables should be normal on her tongue but maybe it’s been years and years, and sometimes she’d find that food tasted like nothing at all.
(Distantly, Homura thinks that Madoka will never be able to eat something like this ever again. Distantly, Homura wonders when the taste of fresh food ever become so foreign to her.)
But I suppose any kind of actually fresh food would taste good if you’ve been sustaining yourself off determination and cup noodles.
Just the bare minimum so you don’t waste magic making up for hunger.
Yuu carefully watches her eat as he does so himself. Ace and Deuce are bickering in the background and Grim is tearing into his own food with gusto. Homura mechanically eats her meal with the precision of a surgeon and the speed of a machine. He hopes that Homura liked the meal. He wonders what Homura would normally eat, all alone by herself.
Yuu gets the feeling that Homura hasn’t really been eating well for quite some time.
And then Cater shows up.
Who is this guy? Homura has zero ideas. The rest of the group has many violent ideas. Oh, they tricked Yuu (and the others) into doing his work for him. Hm. (Down goes a couple of points for Homura’s opinion of Cater. While I’d say Homura does try her best to be not as judgemental as possible because goodness knows how much she herself has received, these are people she’s bonded with on some level, so a little bias (TM) comes into play. Even if Ace can be a jerk, and Grim's basically a bratty kid)
Ever the conversationalist, Homura’s as quiet as a church mouse. But that’s fine, since Cater’s deadlift the majority of the conversation anyways.
Cater is already evaluating the new member of the group aka Homura. He remembers Riddle complaining about certain people breaking school rules during the assembly. He is kind of surprised she's still here though, since knowing the headmaster Homura should've gone home by now. So there must be something…
She’s definitely a little…quieter, and more solemn and serious than he expected a fourteen-year-old to be. Cater definitely remembers his sisters never being like Homura. But it’s probably a personality variation thing. After all, everyone’s different, and Homura's no exception to the individuality of people in general.
Yet her eyes still unsettle him, ever so slightly. He's not sure if the freshmen and the other unsorted student(?) realize it, but Homura's eyes… There’s a hardness in them, and an emptiness that lingers. (He wonders if she was ever forced to grow up too quickly, forced to understand certain hard truths of reality too quickly.)
Although, maybe at least one of them realises it, seeing as Yuu’s practically hovering over her like an oversized mother hen. Well, it’s not really his problem to deal with anyways.
Cater laughs and smiles, acting casual and playing the perfect role of a relaxed upperclassman. He’s pretty sure it does nothing to ease their earlier grudges (which, well, fair enough—most NRC students aren’t really the forgive and forget type anyways)
And just in time for him (Cater’s one-hundred percent sure they’re all starting to get annoyed with him), Trey enters the scene, wielding his nonchalance like a well-sharpened sword. He’s polite, calm and collected—acting as a voice of reason even though he’s just slid to their table knowing full well their…colourful reputations in this school. (She had heart problems, not hearing problems)
Homura’s sorely reminded of Mami with this third-year, and his verbal slip regarding his less-than-stellar opinion of Ramshackle dorm (even if arguably justified) is one that has her also putting her opinion of him on the fence.
Cater brings up getting their numbers
The numbers are incompatible rip Cater (Homura simply didn’t bring up the fact that data roaming wouldn’t even apply in another world—he’d figure it out on his own later anyways. Or hear it from someone else. Whichever comes first.)
It’s not like isekai (aka inter-universal/inter-universal/inter-whatever) services are included in standard sims provided in Japan—no matter how prevalent the isekai genre is
But also I ask you all to imagine Cater looking at Homura’s utter desert of a contact list.
There’s like maybe three tumbleweeds and it’s:
The hospital she lived in for years on end
Her uncle(‘s secretary) — anyone who hasn’t read ANAI aka “As N Approaches Infinity” is missing out also screw Homura’s uncle in that fic he sucks
Mitakihara Middle School’s front desk
Yuu, in comparison, has like a bajillion phone numbers. All with their own little nicknames such as “Core day every day”, “Down bad for pixels”, “(Putting) The L in LGBT”, or “Mission control centre” (That actually refers to his family phone’s number)
Very awkward for Cater, and Yuu, who are either starting to get or are getting more information on how socially disconnected Homura might’ve actually been
Briefly, Cater wonders if Homura was homeschooled
Trey is having ✨flashbacks✨ to Riddle’s own upbringing and wondering if there’s any connection to the few phone numbers and an implication of a lack of friends. He puts that thought out of his mind because he’s not really in any position to pry (and we all know how well the first and last time he tried turned out)
Then Trey starts giving an intro on the dorms like a tutorial menu narrator
Of course, when the obligatory ‘Epel is as pretty as a girl” statement pops up, Ace can no longer call Grim and Deuce morons as NRC is no longer an all-boys school with the inclusion of Homura
Anyways, Lilia shows up(side down)!
Bat Gramps gives everyone a heart attack!! Homura wonders if this is how it feels to be on the other end of a time-stop
When Lilia says that Diasomnia is very hospitable and welcoming, instead of Silver and Sebek being 🗿 they are carefully inspecting (read: Silver is concerned but he looks dead serious. Sebek is less concerned and more “????they haven’t sent the tiny human back home??? Suspiscious.”)
Actually Sebek is both a little confused and a bit like “wow this new human child must be very good to still be here in a uniform”. Unfortunately for him he… looks more like he’s glaring.
Homura is 🗿 tho. She just wants to have a peaceful lunch what on earth is happening
Ofc since Homuhomu is here, canon diverts as in Lilia stays a little longer and flits around Homura like a bat from hell.
“My oh my, it’s you again. How have you been, young one?” (coming from someone who looks no older than 18)
“...I am…fine.” (be easy on her Homura’s doing her best)
Yuu just slides closer to her because who is this weirdo why is everyone in this school so weird maybe that’s what Magic highschool(™) actually does to people
To Homura, Lilia feels…odd. It’s not quite like Madoka (The Law of Cycles now), so young yet so wrapped within aeons of time; a newly born law, yet with a history beyond time. He feels more like Walpurgisnacht. There is an unspoken history behind this highschooler, and he’s just focused on her ring. Lunchtime was turning out to be terrible. Maybe it was a good thing she often skipped lunches at Mitakihara Middle School.
“Oh? Is that…?”
Homura has just given up and pretended she does not see™. If she tries to hide it she’ll draw unwanted attention. If she tries to explain she’ll give it unwanted attention and there was no guarantee her explanation would be credible enough. So she just… Did not see. If the others are interested they’ll watch anyways so it’s better to just pretend to be completely disinterested in the fact that Batman lite is staring at her literal soul—pretend it’s no biggie.
Of course, her body language has completely closed off, and now Yuu’s gently pushing away Lilia.
“Hey, maybe not so close, alright?”
“Of course, forgive me for that—and for disrupting your meal. I do hope we can converse again. ” He looks at Homura, Yuu, and Grim, before adding, “Especially the three of you.” Then he peaces out aka teleports back to his lunch
Of course, Ace still slanders Riddle at lunch like in canon. Even if Yuu frantically made abort motions. Homura just stares at the scene, already knowing how it’s probably going to pan out.
No one likes being talked about behind their back like that. She’d know a lot about how that felt like. After all, that’s what happened to her.
And wuh-oh wouldn’t you know? Riddle’s right behind Ace. Deuce puts Ace out of his misery. Yuu has his head in his hands. Homura quietly sighs and continues eating her lunch. Cater and Trey have stiffer smiles than overmixed egg-white mixtures. As Ace continues to dig his own grave—going past six feet and beyond, Homura takes the chance to observe Heartslaybul’s Housewarden.
Her first impression is that: He’s…not that much taller than her at all (Riddle is 160 cm whilst Homura is about 158 cm). But he looks incredibly prim and proper—definitely the image of what someone expects of a Dorm Leader.
Her second impression is that Riddle is rather strict. And very used to having authority, if the way Cater immediately folds to his words is any indicator of that trait. Perhaps Ace wasn’t completely wrong about his dorm leader being rather unyielding, personality-wise.
However, Ace…isn’t doing himself any favours at all, so Homura also chalks it up to Ace having zero brain-to-mouth filter.
Grim identifies him as the guy who sealed his magic, and Riddle, in turn, identifies them as the students who nearly got expelled + singles out Homura like Why are you still here??? Presumably as a student too if the magestone is any indication. To him, it breaks the rules and sets a bad example.
In fact, Riddle even starts a little speech about how rulebreakers only cause chaos, and shouldn’t be, under any circumstances, tolerated.
Aaand now Riddle’s reminding Homura of Sayaka, in a bad way.
So she goes: There is nowhere for her (and Yuu by extension) to go in Twisted Wonderland. They’re not inhabitants of this world (in case he uh, forgot that like how the story seems to often do that whenever you don’t know Disney/Japanese-inspired tradition #659 like an idiot because you come from planet Earth), therefore NRC kind of does need to bend the rules for them unless they want bad PR (She’s seen enough of what her Uncle used to get up to in the hospital through magazines, social media and the television. He flung around money and time as if there was nothing else to live for but his own hedonism.)
Riddle, of course, at this stage of the story, rejects that notion because he thinks there could be other alternatives. Bro is debating with a 14 year old.
Yuu, as nice and kind as he is, also gives his two cents. As in, “I sure hope you can get Crowley to reconsider then.” He says this with a singular (1) eyebrow raised whilst wiping Homura’s mouth.
Homura is blue-screening for a hot five minutes because wow ok that was ???? Yuu asked,  “Is anyone gonna take care of this kid?” and did not wait for a single reply.
Ace tries to get his collar removed even though he shit-talked Riddle in front of his face. Ace has balls bigger than Jupiter I guess. Not that it’s helping him or anything.
Homura also bears witness to Riddle’s ability to memorise rules. Not all 810 of them but he definitely knows his rules if he’s jumping from rule 271 to rule 339. He still reminds her of Sayaka in a bad way though. All too unyielding to others.
Hopefully for him, it won’t be to the very bitter end.
Oh, and she also learns that Trey is vice-housewarden, which… She supposed there probably was an alternative reason as to why Cater and Trey approached them—seeing the way they interacted with Heartslaybul’s Housewarden.
And judging from the loud displays of dismay from surrounding Heartslaybul students, not only is Riddle a strict and unyielding dorm leader, but he also has his dorm students under an iron-clad grip.
Trey tries to do a little damage control after low-key informing everyone of Riddle’s extreme magical prowess (strong enough to become Housewarden before the end of his first week at school). He does so by attempting to soften the blow of Riddle’s actions by basically saying: he’s not a bad guy and everything he does is because he thinks it’s better for the dorm.
Which, to be honest, Homura has heard many variations of that. Hell, she’s basically done outwardly terrible actions in the name of the greater good (for her friends). (Not like it ever worked)
She can get that.
But Riddle still did mildly get on her nerves, even if Homura would never show that in a million years or resets.
Grim, thankfully, raises the question of the ethics of Riddle collaring anyone as he pleases—although it’s less that and more him airing out his own grievances with getting collared and having his magic sealed too.
Both Yuu and Homura are quick to remind Grim that it was kind of his fault for, you know, setting the hall on fire.
Diverging from canon again, this time it’s Ace and Deuce who ask about Unique Magics and thus Riddle’s particular Unique Magic. Now that they re-explain what Riddle could do with his Unique Magic… Homura is sure she’ll have to be careful around him.
She doesn’t want to know what would happen if she gets collared.
Would there be a way to learn how to prevent it from being applied to someone?
Of course, back to the story: Riddle’s loud and clear live demonstration of “Off With Your Head” does him no favours in portraying him as someone wanting the best for his students.
And as we skip past the further dialogue on Grim’s opinion of the Unique Magic’s name (i.e. completely bonkers and terrifying), Cater’s explanation of why exactly it feels so terrible to have a collar (mostly for Yuu’s benefit), and Trey attempting to downplay it by going “As long as you follow the rules, you’ll be fine. Riddle isn’t that scary.”
We stop at Ace asking if he legitimately can’t be let into the dorm if he doesn’t get a replacement tart for the one he ate.
He can’t. In addition to that, it’s also an established rule. Homura thinks that’s kind of a stupid rule. Yuu outright says that it’s kind of a weirdly harsh rule. I mean, replacing what you unfairly took is important, but taking away your room whilst you haven’t…didn’t sound like the best rule.
Ace would like to add that it is, in fact, a really harsh rule—since he’s the one getting collared and being left without a place to sleep in (something that could’ve happened if Ramshackle wasn’t inhabited by Yuu, Homura and Grim, who tidied up some part because they are on another level of homeless)
Trey and Cater… definitely realise this, but currently at this part of Heartslaybul’s book, they don’t actually have the power to tell this to Riddle and not expect to be reprimanded or worse. So they just awkwardly laugh. Cater just tries to transition to telling Ace that Riddle usually looks forward to the tarts, and they’re hand-made by Trey—Ace just needs to replace the tart he ate with another one and things will be fine after that.
Homura…isn’t sure about that, but if it’s all about following the rules then the logic seems sound? But if not then… Ah well, she’ll see what happens then and take action from there.
A little segment of Trey hand-made the tarts??? Those really good-looking really tasty-looking tarts??? (Ace’s words)
Yeah he’s from a baker's family lmao (Just for you guys who can’t read my mind: this is Cater)
“Aren’t tarts like that extremely expensive?” That is true Deuce. “Ace, why don’t you try doing it by hand? It’ll be cheaper that way, although I’m not sure about the quality,” says Yuu. Wow Yuu, lots of confidence in Ace there.
But Yuu is correct. Ace can’t bake.
Well, perhaps Trey could help? He is the vice-housewarden. And the one who baked the tarts—so he’s well acquainted with Riddle’s tastes. That’s what Homura adds to the brewing discussion.
At that moment, Kalim and Jamil FINALLY ARRIVE ON THE SCENE… While the Heartslabyul dudes start talking about making a tart from scratch.
Kalim’s like “Oh hey Homura!!! :D” He did say he’d find her and he did!!! Kalim’s so happy to spend the rest of his lunchtime with his new friend.
Jamil helped a lot. And by a lot, I meant he went through statistical analysis inside his head that culminated into nothing because Kalim rolled a nat20 on luck and perception.
Oh who are these people? Well, Homura introduces them as “My upperclassmen: Al-Asim— (Oops nearly used Last name–First name format) Kalim Al-Asim, and Jamil Viper.” With her soft, serious tone, it sounds less like she’s introducing potential new friends she made and more like management introduced new colleagues. Having around five (5), and quite possibly fewer, friends + her entire background makes this very much a work in progress.
She’s picked up on the fact that Twisted Wonderland uses the ‘First name–Last name” format instead of ‘Last name–First name’ like Japan. Although, Homura did noticeably stumble. But hey, she caught herself in time.
Yuu confidently says, with his whole chest out (figuratively), “Izumi Yuu, nice to meet you.”
I finally thought of a last name for Yuu, so he’ll be known as “Izumi Yuu/Yuu Izumi” from now on. I figured that if I’m also going to build Yuu as a character by adding information here and there about him, then he might as well get a last name.
Ace: “Wait your name was Izumi this whole time?”
Yuu: “Oh no that’s my surname. I’m Japanese.” (Which sadly explained nothing)
Ace & Co: “???”
Yuu: “Ah. Right. Forgot about that.”
Homura: “From where we came from, it was common to introduce ourselves using our last names first, instead of our first names.”
Kalim’s actually wondering what they were discussing earlier. They were discussing Trey helping Ace bake a replacement tart for the one he ate.
Trey can bake? Jamil’s also good at that!! Jamil corrects that he’s only mediocre at pastries/baked goods like the ones Trey makes (Which are more “Western” in design)
Trey would like to see how good Jamil is at baking. His glasses glint as his fingers lightly grip one of the sides again. In fact, speaking of baking, he could help Ace with the baking. But he’ll need something in return.
No one does anything for free in NRC, after all— No it’s not cash Ace.
Trey wants chestnuts. Two hundred to three hundred of them. Boiled, shelled, and pureed. Riddle wants a chestnut tart so… Kalim thinks that sounds fun! Jamil is quick to tell Kalim that, no
Kalim, you have a meeting later Kalim you can’t go.
Maybe next time Kalim
Ace, Deuce and Grim are out though no labour for them no siree
Homura calmly sips on her tea and states that Ace doesn’t have much of a choice.
You’re right, Homura, but you could’ve said that a bit nicer lmao
Now Ace has to confront his unwanted reality aka he needs to go get two to three hundred chestnuts and prepare them for baking.
And then Cater and Trey team up to make them want to bake. The killing blow is being able to eat a tart after baking them. Hook, line, and sinker; just like that, they’re in.
Yuu’s in for it—He’ll make sure Grim doesn’t act out. Also, tart.
Homura…would like to study more ways to leave Twisted Wonderland. But then Yuu looked at her like he fully wanted her to join and ok she caved.
Mostly everyone is discussing chestnuts now. Where to get them? botanical garden? Alright. And Trey’s baking skills. And tarts. Mostly tarts.
Oh and Kalim’s plans to have Homura over for a mini-party aka eat Jamil’s food. Everyone in this group right now is also very much invited because the more the merrier!!!
But why does he want to throw a mini-party for Homura? Because one she helped him and two she’s baby. He does not say this outright but he basically implies she has a kicked wet puppy aura mixed with her serious aura and that’s no good for someone who helped him out :(
It’s a mini-party because Kalim mostly just wants to get to know potential new friends this time. He can throw a spontaneous dorm-wide party next time!
Kalim decides to walk Homura to class again, because why not? She’s a new student and Kalim likes her—which means a potential new friend in his books! (And Jamil remembered her schedule + their classes aren’t too far away so Jamil’s fine with it) This time though, Yuu, Grim, and the rest of the Heartslaybul boys (minus Riddle) decide to tag along. It’s probably more entertaining than a normal day if they follow, especially for Trey and Cater.
Jamil just wants a (Twisted Wonderland) Ibuprofen.

The urge to do a PMMM Magical Girl(? technically not a girl if they aren't, but still, that's the only term I know so let's just pretend that, no matter the case, it's a magical girl) Yuu whos been turning back time and looping the story + making illusions to make sure no one dies, and Kyubey is there too (derogatory)
I think that Yuu's soul gem wouldn't be tainted because of the timelines and their positivity to do it the next turn around, and Kyubey has watched Yuu desperately turn back time so that no one dies. Kyubey has watched Yuu try to solve the situation repeatedly. Kyubey has watched Yuu change greatly and hide their magical girl abilities simply to survive.
Non-humans may feel something off, but the Dark Mirror sure as hell knows that Yuu has been suffering just by their soul gem. Yuu is pitied by the Dark Mirror, for Yuu is only alive because of their wish to save NRC after something goes wrong each time.
I think that this rendition of Yuu is specifically given Homura's time powers due to the wish to save NRC, but Yuu doesn't deal with Overblots like how witches are in PMMM.
Kyubey's a little shit during Octavinelle and often pisses off both Azul for a contract and Yuu, though Yuu does somewhat take advantage of the contract's loopholes to an extent when they can.
Yuu and Kyubey probably have a strange dynamic, where Yuu detests Kyubey but does understand the incubator's existence being mandatory, while Kyubey toys a bit with Yuu, not knowing how deep their emotions go, though they outwardly act neutral but you can see the ever so 'slight' aggression Yuu shows.
Everyone thinks Kyubey is cute or annoying, but Yuu knows all too well.
That's my ramble for today, I shall now take my leave (<- no ideas)

Pink in the Night
i’ve always wanted to write a soulmate au :)
Malleus Draconia x Reader
wc: 5.9k
cw: reader is yuu, major character death, descriptions of violence/injury, mentions of fae heat (brief, sfw), pmmm inspired, yandere-ish
For the first few hundred years of his life, Malleus is convinced he doesn’t have a soulmate. While other children gleefully show off small scrapes and bruises that magically appear on their skin, Malleus’ own remained blemish free. He wonders if perhaps his soulmate is simply being considerate; trying to save him from harm by living a careful life.
He remembers when Silver first got a scrape on his knee, how the seven-year-old had started crying when it appeared. Lilia had consoled him and taken care of the injury, telling his son what it meant. By the end, young Silver had shed tears of excitement for the future.
A bittersweet feeling climbed Malleus’ throat at Lilia’s words to his son - fate, destiny, soulmates - it seemed the world had simply forgotten about him. Perhaps that was his destiny: to rule Briar Valley undistracted and alone, concentrating only on his kingdom. While uncommon, it wasn’t impossible - there certainly existed some unlucky enough to be born without one.
Five hundred years later and the time in which Malleus wished for a soulmate has long passed. The thought rarely crossed his mind anymore - it was no different than any other loneliness he’d felt it in his life. Unlike other children, he’d grown up without his parents. Just the same, he’d do fine without a soulmate.
The morning of NRC’s orientation on his third year, Malleus feels a sharp scratch on his arm, like that of the cat which had scratched him as a child when attempting to flee his touch. It’s faint and quick, and his fae blood means any visible mark is gone within a second. Malleus pulls down his sleeve anyway, eyes scrolling over the area of his wrist where he’d felt it. His pale flesh is as unblemished as ever; he almost feels like he’s hallucinated it.
The feeling leaves him in thought and he decides to take a walk on campus. Absorbed by the morning’s events, Malleus barely takes notice of the bustling of the students around him, all preparing for something he can’t quite remember; he makes a note to ask Lilia about it later.
Malleus walks until that the sky darkens into a deep azure. The tranquility of nature is soothing to him; he feels like just another one of the trees. The birds chirp freely in his presence, uninhibited by fear or distaste. Eventually he runs into Shroud, talking to himself in the courtyard. Malleus is almost pleased at the encounter: him and his fellow dorm leader seeking to find peace in similar ways.
The pleasantries are quickly dispelled when he realizes Idia is dressed in his black ceremonial robes. Malleus is confused, and Shroud quickly becomes defensive when he questions his choice. He does not struggle with the idea for too long. Malleus figures that perhaps there are things that fae and humans simply cannot understand about each other.
His day is quickly soured when Lilia informs him that he’s missed the school’s ceremony again. The distraction of another lost opportunity means he forgets all about the strange incident from the morning.
*
Time passes quickly for Malleus, it always has. He blinks and Heartslabyul’s dorm leader has overblotted. He blinks again and another Spelldrive tournament approaches.
Another late night, Malleus escapes Diasomnia dorm to take a walk by himself. He only has so long before Sebek realizes he is gone, so the prince makes haste to his usual spot.
Ramshackle reminds him of why he enjoys nature: it is another place where Malleus can simply exist amongst the gargoyles, where his presence causes no disturbance and nothing to change. It seems this kind of peace can only exist for him in places abandoned by others.
The solitude he’s enjoyed so long is shattered when this time, the dorm is not empty. A child of man walks out from the gates of the dorm, rubbing their eyes and dressed in simple clothing.
You seem as surprised to see him as he is by you. It catches Malleus even further by surprise that you do not cower at his appearance.
You offer your name, and Malleus finds it unusual. He is certainly well read, having been educated on all major parts of the world since he was a child (it wouldn’t do well for a prince to be aware of only his own kingdom), and yet, he has never heard of your name. He doesn’t dwell on the details, certainly it could be the mistake of the outdated nature of Briar Valley’s texts.
Malleus decides not to offer you his own name. He wonders if perhaps keeping it to himself would help maintain the serenity of Ramshackle; without his name, perhaps you will still treat him as just another person. He silently mourns the loss of this space, and vows to find more ruins in which he can find peace.
*
The next time Malleus sees you, you call him ‘Tsunotaro,’ and he laughs for the first time in a while. He’d thought maybe you were bluffing last time, pretending not to know who he really was. Your bravery to call him by this nickname is delightfully baffling.
You tell him about Azul and the contract, and Malleus almost feels sorry for how pitiful and doe-eyed you look. It’s not as though he can’t understand the sentiment. In a way, he’s grown fond of Ramshackle too. He leaves you with words of encouragement and disappears into the night.
*
Three days later, Malleus drops to his knees in his room, feeling like his bones are being crushed into dust. The pressure is so overwhelming he passed out.
He awakens on the bed of his room, with Sebek standing by his bedside. As soon as the half-fae sees his eyes flutter, Sebek is yelling out for Lilia and Silver to come. Malleus groans at Sebek’s loudness and lightly chastises him. He immediately apologizes in a softer tone as the two others come rushing in.
The prince moves his arms and legs, relieved to find them in tact. Although he feels sore, his bones and tissue are not fractured and split as he worried. He wonders if he’s dreamt the pain; it feels like a distant memory. The only thing that remains is a sort of empty pit in his stomach, but he supposes it’s likely because he hasn’t eaten. Lilia checks up on Malleus, pressing his small hand to his forehead.
‘Strange’, his guardian remarks. ‘A fae’s first heat is often painful, but it shouldn’t have been for someone like you. Well, at least it seems you slept through the worst of it.’
Malleus isn’t sure what it should feel like, but the crushing of bones definitely seems extreme. Still, he accepts Lilia’s explanation for his condition easy enough. He retained no actual injury, so there doesn’t seem to be any explanation other than his own body.
*
When Malleus feels well enough to return to his duties as housewarden, Lilia explains the situation he had been hiding from Malleus while he was in his incapacitated state.
It seems Ashengrotto was more dangerous than Malleus gave him credit for. Kingscholar and a few other students had stopped his overblot, but during the fight, destruction to the nearby dorm building caused a student to be crushed and killed.
Lilia explains the chaos that the school has been thrown into while he’s been asleep, the attempt at damage control by Crowley, and Azul’s further breakdown once he’d realized what he’d done.
Ashengrotto was hardly Malleus’ favourite fellow housewarden, but his situation was terribly sad. He knew, despite his greediness and flaws, that Azul was not a bad person.
*
As he walks around campus, the courtyard is empty of students. Malleus loves the quiet, but not like this. This kind of quiet is constrictive, like oxygen has left the air and Malleus can no longer breathe. He spots a single student walk down the hall, so distracted that he fails to even notice Malleus as he walks past.
The next few days pass in a similar silence. It seems even those who did not know the student who was killed are shaken by the event. Ashengrotto has left the school and gone home; Malleus isn’t sure if it was by choice or not.
Lilia encourages Malleus to attend the vigil for the student who died, stating his attendance to be important both as a housewarden and the future king of Briar Valley.
The two of them walk to the vigil, accompanied by Silver and Sebek. Malleus is so lost in thought that he doesn’t realize they’ve walked the path to Ramshackle dorm.
It’s then that he spots the giant picture of you, printed on a canvas, set in front of the dorm gates. You smile in the picture, but he can tell you were caught off guard by whoever took the picture. It’s not unflattering, but he’s surprised they chose that one. It seems more like a causal picture taken by a friend than one meant for a funeral. When he asks Cater later on, he’ll learn it was one of the few anyone had of you. The picture is surrounded by white candles, probably twenty or so.
Blue hair catches his eye and Malleus notices the two freshman boys he’d occasionally spot with you standing off to the side of the portrait. The redhead keeps his gaze cast down, but the blue-haired boy is unable to keep the tears from spilling down his cheeks. Malleus imagines if he was any closer, he’d be able to hear the soft sobs spill from his lips.
Malleus doesn’t realize he’s stopped walking until Lilia is ushering him quietly to stand behind the crowd. At his height, he’s still able to see over the rest of the students. A blur of grey flashes by his eyes as something runs between legs to the front of the crowd.
Grim sits frozen at the bottom of your portrait for a moment, the rest of the students going silent as they watch him. Malleus notices Leona standing off to the side of the crowd beside Ruggie, the two of them looking as glum as he’s seen; it’s strange for him to see the prince without his usual smirk or sneer.
The cry that breaks the silence a moment later replays in Malleus’ head for days. Grim’s grief at your death haunts him; the more he remembers it, the more the pit in his stomach grows.
It’s the pity that sets Malleus on his next decision. This experience, this loss the campus has faced has undeniably changed things. He feels sorry for you and your friends, of course, but mostly Malleus hates the silence he can no longer escape.
Malleus doesn’t bother telling Lilia; his guardian would likely try to stop him, but Malleus knows he’s in no danger. His grandmother had given him the magic shield only because she knew he could handle it.
The prince straps the small, metal shield to his wrist, before spinning it’s round edges until it aligns with his designated mark.
*
Malleus finds himself two days before Azul’s overblot. He knows he’ll have to do something before his heat becomes too much of an issue for him to intervene. The fae sneaks away from his guards in the middle of the night to place magic-resistance charms on the Octavinelle building; he hopes it’ll be enough to prevent your death and all its fallout.
The next two days play out just as before. Malleus finds this part of time-hopping quite tedious; the repetitive nature of reliving the same days over and over again. Although he supposes it isn’t much different than how he normally feels through the school year. Without extra events to attend, his routine is rather simple. Unchanging, even. That is the life of a fae as old as him; every day feels the same.
Some minor things feel a bit different than before: Malleus hadn’t remembered Kingscholar glaring at him from across the hall the last time around. The behaviour isn’t unusual for Leona, so Malleus doesn’t think too hard about it.
Malleus mentions to Lilia about his ‘bad feeling’ regarding Ashengrotto; he hopes it will be enough to entice him to keep watch of the situation while Malleus is forced to stay in his room and face his heat.
The prince waits in his room, staring at his stone ceiling. He anticipates the pain, but as the sky turns dark and his room is only lit by candlelight, nothing comes. His bones do not crush and his head does not splinter. He wonders if he’s made a mistake; could casting a simple spell and telling Lilia about the incident change enough to not have his heat come?
*
Malleus goes to see you once more after Ashengrotto is dealt with. He doesn’t expect to feel so…strange seeing you alive again. You thank him for the advice he’d never intended, but he can’t help but feel an unusual happiness at hearing you bring up the gargoyles.
He doesn’t see you for a while after that, but it’s difficult not to think of you. Things become busy, and so he sends you a holiday card to make up for his lack of visits. He feels oddly upset at your lack of reply. Perhaps you’ve discovered his identity and no longer wish…Malleus perishes the thought and resolves himself to return to your dorm when he can.
*
The next time you meet, snow covers the ground around Ramshackle. Something else has changed too; you look happy. He finds that the faint red that dusts your cheeks and nips at your nose… it becomes you.
When you pass him the tickets, Malleus starts to hear his pulse ring in his ears. Surely he’s misunderstood your intent? Your casual demeanour does nothing to quell his surprise.
Malleus composed himself before thanking you and promising to attend. He goes back to Diasomnia and makes Sebek vow to ensure he makes it there. He hates to use the half-fae’s devotion for his personal needs, but Malleus refuses to disrespect you by failing to attend the first event he’s been personally invited to since coming the NRC.
There’s still days before the event, but Malleus can’t stop thinking about the encounter. He is…ambivalent about you. In a way, you’ve given him hope and that is much worst than those like Kingscholar who outright reject his presence. You don’t know him, and so you do not fear him. Is it truly possible that his name and his position is all that keeps others away? Or perhaps you are special; Malleus allows himself to believe for a moment that you might accept him anyway, before banishing the thought to somewhere it will not harm him.
*
The day of the SDC, Sebek reminds him repeatedly of it’s time, and insists on guiding him to the event. Malleus declines Sebek’s request when he happens to feel a dull pain shoot against his shoulder, like he’s been hit by something heavy. He checks his body but no bruise colours his skin. Still, Malleus grows increasingly restless as he wonders, so decides to head over early.
This time, he watches your death in real time.
Schoenheit’s overblot form rages above you all. Malleus approaches the group, intending to step in, but sees the release of the poison mist a second too late. As the purple haze consumes your body, Malleus feels an uncomfortable feeling in his chest. When you fall to the ground, he feels his limbs grow weak and heavy. Suddenly, any pain is gone, and you have grown still.
The others are distracted by subduing Vil, not yet noticing your fallen form behind them. Malleus approaches you silently, and his stomach begins to turn the closer he gets. When he catches sight of the blood trailing down your left shoulder, he does not stop to help the students that now call his name.
*
Malleus turns his shield and he’s back in his room. He’s left himself a couple days before the SDC, just enough time to fix things.
Malleus wonders if you have any idea that he is your soulmate. He wonders how you would feel. Pleased? Ambivalent? Afraid?
He pauses on the last possibility and stays there until he is overwhelmed by a tight feeling in his stomach.
Part of him is angry as well. Malleus is one of the most powerful mages in this world, but the universe has decided his fate was to be bonded to a fragile human, and a magicless one at that.
He dismisses the thought as soon as it comes. No, it all makes sense. Malleus is strong precisely because you are weak; he was made to keep you safe, to protect you from anything that would seek to harm you. He knows that now.
If destiny has ensured you be bonded together, he will ensure it is forever.
*
Malleus sees you again, but now he only watches from afar. It’s strange to see you in this new light.
You are his soulmate. Someone the universe designed for him; someone who would be forced to accept him.
He casts a spell of invisibility as he approaches you, sitting outside Ramshackle with Grim. The two of you bicker gently, but Malleus is too focused on his goal to really notice. He casts charms of protection and invulnerability on you, and slips away as quickly as he can.
Malleus intends to leave, but he’s held in place by the sound of your laughter; it rings free and clear. He flees the scene before he can think too long about why the sound replays in his mind.
*
When the day of the SDC finally comes once again, Malleus is sure to enter the stadium early enough to sit in the shadows in case he needs to intervene.
His protection spells work as intended, and he only reveals itself when it’s time to reconstruct the stadium - he still has a show to watch, after all.
The others’ shock at your friendliness with him is quite amusing. Malleus imagines the surprise they’d feel if they knew you were his soulmate too.
Although he hadn’t really wanted to do it this way, Malleus figured that it’s necessary to reveal his real identity to you now; if you are to be his forever, there’s no reason to spare you the details.
Your continued use of the former nickname you’d given him pleases Malleus. It confirms to him what he’d believed - soulmates were obligated to love each other, no matter what. Even the fearful reactions of your friends did not serve to deter you from him. How could they? The two of you were meant to be.
*
In the days following the SDC, Malleus contemplates how to tell you that the two of you are soulmates. The matter is rather delicate and although the two of you are in a good place, he’d rather not reverse his progress.
He decides to consult Lilia, who is both surprised and overjoyed when Malleus shares the news. His guardian advises him not to rush into things, but rather to begin a courting process before revealing the truth, so as to not scare you away. Unfortunately, Malleus doesn’t have much experience in the area.
His first strategy is one traditional of his family; the giving of gifts over a period of seven days. Malleus sends letters back to Briar Valley to bring him the most expensive and desirable collection of jewelry and artifacts in the royal family’s care. Malleus’ grandmother writes back in congratulations and sends what he requested.
Unfortunately, he failed to account for the cultural differences between fae and humans. One night as he stops to chat with you outside Ramshackle, you pull out one of the gifts he’d left at your doorstep: an ancient necklace, said to be blessed by the original thorn fairy herself.
Malleus prepares himself to finally reveal the truth to you, excited that you’ve finally acknowledged his courting.
Then you tell him that you’re afraid you have a stalker and ask if he’s seen anyone lurking around Ramshackle, claiming that ‘cursed’ objects have been left anonymously at your doorstep.
Malleus takes a moment to compose himself (it’s a little rude of you to call his gift ‘cursed’) before promising to keep a look out.
He goes to Silver that very night to ask him about human courting rituals. Silver explains the concept of ‘dating’ to Malleus, and that night, the prince asks you to accompany him to dinner at the Mostro Lounge.
Malleus feels the excitement bloom in his chest when, after walking you home from dinner, you ask him to attend a play with you the following week.
*
The two of you go on many dates, until he’s begun spending the free time he has at Ramshackle.
Sitting on your couch, he makes a mental note to make renovations to some of the older furniture when he has a chance. He’d like to preserve the ruins look of the building, but not at the cost of your discomfort.
The doorbell rings, and you’re jumping off the couch to answer the door. Ace and Deuce stand outside with bags of snacks in hand. They smile at you, but just a bit of that happiness drops at the sight of him on the couch.
Your best friends haven’t exactly taken well to his newfound presence. The feeling isn’t entirely not mutual - it’s them who should apologize for taking so much of your time. You’re his soulmate after all, not theirs. You usher them inside and they take a seat on the chairs farthest from the couch.
“Sorry, Malleus, I totally forgot I made plans with them to come over earlier. Is it possible for us to watch the movie another time?”
“Of course, my love,” Malleus says, watching intently as your friends wince at the pet name. “I will see you tomorrow for tea with Lilia?”
At your nod, a small smirk rises to his face as he approaches you, dropping a small kiss on your lips as he departs. He notes the embarrassed and disgruntled look your friends faces; as much as he hates to let them see you in any intimate way, he needs them to know their place before he leaves.
*
One day, Malleus walks in on Deuce holding you. Your arms are awkwardly grasping at his shoulders, and he grips underneath your arms. It’s clear you’ve fallen, and yet Malleus can’t help but let the picture freeze in his mind; it burns into his memory.
Deuce helps you stand properly before the two of you let go of each other. You apologize and thank him awkwardly; the two of you haven’t even noticed him.
Malleus greets you from the doorway and both of you flinch in surprise. You gesture him inside, telling him all about the ‘funny story’ that just happened with Deuce.
He tries to sleep that night, but every time he closes his eyes, Malleus sees you in Deuce’s arms. He knows there’s nothing between you; it was an accident, and you love him after all.
*
Malleus makes the decision to reveal that he’s your soulmate the next time you two are alone. That happens to be two days later, once again on the Ramshackle couch.
He told you he wanted to discuss something serious, and he feels terrible at how anxious you look from across the table. Malleus wordlessly takes a small needle he’d brought with him and gently pricks his index finger.
You just stare at him, bewildered. Malleus takes your hand, flipping it palm-side up. No red pools on your finger, and no indentation appears either.
It’s his turn to stare in confusion. Every time you’ve been injured, he’s felt it. All your deaths, he’s felt. You’re human, you should not be healing this fast. He tells you as much.
“Is-Is this about soulmates, Malleus?” Your eyes flick up to his, voice wavering a bit. You glance back down to your lap as your hand rises to scratch at your neck. “In my world, we don’t have soulmates. I’m sorry, I should’ve been honest with you before, but I was worried that if you knew I wasn’t your soulmate that you wouldn’t want to be together anymore.”
The words echo in his ears, but he can’t understand them. A world without soulmates…? But how?
“I’m sorry to ask this of you, but will you prick your finger. Just a tiny amount will do.”
“Malleus, I-“
“And please, keep an eye on my hand.”
You frown but nod. You prick your hand, wincing at the sensation, eyes flicking down to his own finger, eyes taking in the slight prick that appeared before quickly closing.
Malleus holds his breath as your face blooms into a myriad of emotions: confusion, shock, uncertainty, and finally a smile.
You launch yourself at him, capturing his lips in his very first kiss, and for once, Malleus does not think. He only feels the brush of your soft lips against his own inexperienced ones, following your lead. The moment lasts forever in his mind, but you still pull away too soon.
“Malleus, I’m sorry you’re not my soulmate but I’m so happy you’re mine~”
Your words unsettle him, but before he can think of it too long, you pull him into another kiss.
*
Things pass normally for a few days; the two of you continue to go on dates and avoid the subject of soulmates.
Malleus fears the worst when the campus is invaded, but rushing over to Ramshackle, his anxiety is temporarily relieved at the sight of you still on campus. You cry to him about Grim and he frets over your injuries - however mild, any threat to you is worth dealing with.
He begs you to stay at Diasomnia since your dorm was destroyed but you refuse. You insist on staying at Ramshackle and even ask that he not stay alongside you, promising that you can handle yourself. Malleus almost does it anyway, but Lilia warns him to give you space in your grief and worry for Grim and your friends
*
He visits you one last time before he’s forced to stay with Diasomnia as their dorm leader. Malleus closes his eyes as he pulls you into his arms. Now that he’s had you close, being apart always feels like there’s something missing in his life, a lingering anxiety in the back of his mind that keeps scratching at his brain and ignoring the rational side of him.
The two of you stand in silence, wrapped around each other, until you pull away a couple minutes later. Giving his hand one last squeeze, you slip a pink, string bracelet on his arm, asking Malleus to keep it safe until you seem him again before encouraging him to return to help his dorm.
Malleus tries to leave but feels himself pause in the doorway. He looks back at you, sitting on your bed and staring at your phone, and gets a bad feeling.
It’s just paranoia, he rationalizes. You’ve been through so much, he can’t lose you again. But this time, you’re here and away from the action. Nothing will be able to harm you anymore while you’re on the same campus as him.
Malleus still silently casts a couple of protection spells on you before he takes his leave again.
*
He isn’t able to visit for some time after that, with his dorm leader responsibilities leaving him occupied. He knows your protection spells haven’t activated, so he tries to reassure himself while being away from you. He sends Lilia to check on you, and his guardian returns confirming your health.
Two days later, Malleus sits at a table with Lilia, Sebek, and Silver when he feels it. There is no pain, only a chill that seeps deep into his bones, stopping him mid-sentence. He feels everything at once: fear, despair, and finally, relief. The table remains silent as Malleus is struck with emotion, the others watching him in concern.
“Malleus? It is unbecoming for the future king of Briar Valley to be lost in thought mid-conversation.” Lilia speaks with a light-hearted tone, but Malleus barely hears him.
“Something is wrong with them. I know it,” Malleus whispers, mostly to himself. “No, no. They’re still on campus, that can’t be. You confirmed this yourself, right Lilia?”
Lilia’s pause kindles the fire of Malleus’ worst fear.
“I’m sorry, Malleus. They needed to help their friends, and they knew you would never allow it. But the rest of them are strong, I never thought-“
*
The confirmation comes three hours later when the rest of the students arrive back from the Island of Woe. Lilia and Malleus rush to the group of students gathered to greet their fellow dorm mates.
You are noticeably absent.
He barely hears their words, their explanation about your sacrifice, and your fall into the underworld.
He sees the shocked faces of the other students (even Kingscholar, lacking his usual smirk), and Lilia is ushering him away before he can even think about the wetness dripping down his cheeks. Out of the corner of his eye, Malleus sees Leona try to reach them, but they are too fast for him.
The tears come full force once they’ve teleported back to Diasomnia, but he does not sob. Malleus Draconia is not someone who cries. He wipes the wetness off his face, before turning to Lilia.
“We’ll need to wipe their memories as soon as possible. The future king of Briar Valley cannot be remembered to be so…emotional.”
The cold neutrality of Malleus’ tone shakes even Lilia. He continues to stand, staring at the wall in concentration.
Lilia places a hand on the prince’s shoulder: “Malleus, please sit down. You need to rest after what’s happened. The others can wait-“
“No, no, I won’t have to, I’ll go back again and fix things. It’s simple,” Malleus says, mostly to himself.
“Go back? Malleus, please, what are you saying?” Lilia grabs on to both of Malleus’ shoulders, but he does not break free of his conviction. “You don’t mean-“ Malleus’ lack of response confirms his suspicions. “That watch has never been meant to be used, Malleus! It was for world-ending emergencies, for a threat to your kingdom! You have no idea what you’ve done, the cost you’ve had to pay-“
“I’ll see you soon, Lilia, and all will be right again.”
“You don’t understand! If the prefect continues to die after you’ve already intervened, then that is fate! Nothing you do to change time will change the fact that they aren’t meant to survive.”
“…Change time? No, we’ve moved beyond that, Lilia. I’m not going to change time, I’m going to break it.”
-
“I will help the new prefect,” the student says. “I’ll show them to Ramshackle.”
You are sure that if Crowley’s face were not concealed by his mask it would be frozen in an expression of shock that mirrors the rest of the students.
“Uh, Draconia, that is very…kind of you, but it seems like a lot to trouble yourself with. You are very much needed here for orientation. Perhaps one of our vice housewardens might take care of it?” Crowley looks around but no one steps up to contradict this ‘Draconia.’
“I will be going now. Lilia, please handle the new students.”
Before anyone can further question his decision, Draconia puts a hand on your shoulder and guides you out of the room, leaving behind silence.
*
“What the hell do you think you’re doing, Draconia? You think you can just- what, change the world to your perfect dream? Change time again and again just because of the prefect? These are people’s lives you’re playing with! We’re not here to be subjected to your stupid whims.”
Malleus turns around to face Leona.
“And what, pray tell, do you plan to do about it?”
“I’m not afraid of you, overgrown lizard. You know it isn’t right, forcing us to play these roles that you’ve designed. And the prefect? Forcing them to be with you? You think-”
“Do I need to remove those petty claws of yours, Kingscholar? In fact, I bet you barely remember why you’re here.”
Leona’s face tells all Malleus he needs to know: “I-I know you’ve done something. My head, it just won’t clear-”
“It’s best if you forget about it and play along. We wouldn’t want you to cause more problems for yourself and your friends. The prefect is easily upset - I wouldn’t want to have to do anything bad to keep the world perfect for my soulmate.”
“Hey Leona,” Ruggie says, jogging up to the group before noticing Malleus. He stays close to Leona as he whispers to him: “You got class in ten. You know Crewel will freak if you miss again.”
Leona glances back at Malleus before reluctantly following Ruggie.
*
You try to be subtle as you sneak glances at him, but you don’t think you’re very successful. You don’t have a clue why this- well you don’t know very much about him but considering everyone else’s reactions - probably very powerful fae has taken an interest in you. He doesn’t glance back as he walks in front of you. The two of you continue that way until you suddenly run into something hard. You squeak out an apology but Draconia does not turn around or explain why he’s stopped. His question breaks the silence.
“Are you happy, prefect?”
“…Happy? I-I mean, I don’t know. I have these memories but…something feels off. Something is missing or different and I have no idea what. The headmaster claims I was always a student here, I just had some kind of injury but - this person doesn’t feel like me. I know these halls but I was not the one to walk them. I feel- Ah, I’m so sorry! I don’t even know you, why am I going on like this! Please forgive me, uh, sorry again but I haven’t gotten your name.”
“Malleus,” he says, “Malleus Draconia.”
“Sorry Malleus. We can continue to…my dorm. Thank you for volunteering to take me.”
You wait for Malleus to continue walking down the hall, but he only turns around. You are taken aback by the piercing gaze of his eyes: he looks at you as though he is searching for something lost deep in you.
Malleus pulls a needle out of his robes, and you begin to sweat. He doesn’t look at you, only holding the needle to his hand before using it to prick his index finger.
You wince as you feel a prick on your own finger, swiping over the pooling blood with your thumb before looking back up at him in realization.
“You- You’re my soulmate? Malleus, that’s- How did you even know? Is this-”
You’re interrupted by a large form enveloping your body. Malleus’ arms squeeze you so tight it becomes harder to breathe. You struggle instinctively, wanting this stranger to stop smothering you. Regardless of being your soulmate, you barely know him.
He lets you go, pulling away before taking your wrist and slipping a string bracelet onto your arm.
“Everything is as it should be. There’s no need to worry, my soulmate, you are exactly where you should be, and with who you should be with.”

I HAD A THOUGHT
ALRIGHT,, so chapter 7 for twst came out,,, I read it,,, and I had a thought.
Malleus and Yuu = Homura and Madoka dynamic
NOW HEAR ME OUT,,,
So we all know that Malleus is scared for Yuu to go away because they are from another world,, right?? His immortality causes his love ones to die before him is obviously, very heartbreaking. And considering that he is one of the top 5 magicians in the world, he can do almost anything, referencing the Halloween event where he stops time.
AND NOW LOOK AT HOMURA.
SHE IS WILLING TO DO ANYTHING IT TAKES TO PROTECT MADOKA,, CAN STOP AND RESET TIME, AND IS SOMEWHAT BATSHIT INSANE/MENTALLY ILL. (I still love her tho, the hairflips are iconic)
SHE IS WILLING SPLIT MADOKA IN HALF SO THAT SHE IS ABLE TO KEEP MADOKA WITH HER,,, AND TURNS INTO THE F*CKING DEVIL IN THE PROCESS
MALLEUS IS PROBABLY GOING TO PULL A FAST ONE ON US AND PUT YUU TO SLEEP WHILE OVERBLOTTING IN THE PROCESS. BASICALLY PMMM REBELLION BUT WITH TWST.
GOD SAVE US ALL.

[Twisted Wonderland x Puella Magi Madoka Magica] - What to do when you reload in the wrong universe? - [HEARTSLAYBUL] - PART 1
Tumblr media
Prev | Next
Note: I have a beginning and an end, and the middle is somewhat coming together. I think. Anyways, time for baby's first real day at NRC as a student! :D
-----
Homura’s dreams are, for a lack of a better word, terrible. She runs, chasing after a voice without a body, running faster and faster until she comes across the being that used to be called Kaname Madoka. (She encompasses everything and there’s no escape no escape always twisted when something consumes you)
Homura wakes up also feeling absolutely awful. And then she remembers what Ace said yesterday, and the expectant look Yuu gave her. The start of her day has gone from awful, to something she’d like to not think about.
She rushes over to the bathroom first, frantically tying Madoka’s ribbons back into her hair again. She does this a few times, tying and untying, just to get her thoughts into order. (It doesn’t look right in the mirror. The ribbons were meant to be on someone else. Someone that isn’t her.)
(She could never replicate that feeling of comfort with her own fingers)
Homura finds a spare NRC uniform to get changed into for the day. It’s a little loose for her, but it works. She’s not about to wear her Mitakihara middle school uniform again.
When she goes back into their shared bedroom, Yuu’s already gone. Must be downstairs.
Homura wonders to herself. Should she tell them? Well, she could just tell them about the magical girl part. The intricacies of what it entailed…didn’t need to explain. Besides, they had an established magic system in their world, so it was possible magical girls wouldn’t seem too outlandish to them. Probably.
The first thing she notices when she enters the lounge room is Ace kicking back on the sofa. The second thing she notices is the massive collar around his neck. The massive, highly familiar collar. Wasn’t that what stopped Grim during the…student ceremony?
If you’re wondering how Homura wasn’t awakened by the noise, I’m chalking it up to exhaustion of the mental and emotional kind.
Yuu is the first to notice her and goes over to fuss over Homura’s uniform and hair. Wouldn’t it be better to braid, or at least tie up all this long hair?
Homura says it’ll be fine for her, but Ace almost immediately chimes in about alchemy class and hazards, so Homura kind of gets nudged over into at least tying her hair up in a ponytail. She’s not too keen on braids yet.
Of course, the new elephant in the room is Ace’s giant collar. He then explains the entire incident in an aggrieved fashion, unsubtly prompting Homura to sympathize with him. Yuu chimes in that it was probably for a party since he ate it from a set of three tarts.
Homura’s opinion is that they’re kind of both in the wrong. Ace for not asking for permission to eat likely someone else’s food, and his dorm leader for the extreme punishment of locking away Ace’s magic for a tart being eaten. (She was pretty sure there were better punishments for that, like replacing the eaten tart)
Although, just because Ace is in trouble right now doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten about the other elephant in the room: aka Homura’s advanced fighting abilities + the whole weapons summoning and costume change.
When they go out to the entry hall, Deuce is already there waiting for them. He and Ace exchange “light” conversation, mostly about Ace’s idiocy in eating the tart and ticking off their dorm leader. Homura watches them do so, and has serious deja vu in regards to another red and blue pair. She thinks they’ll probably become good friends, somehow. (That’s what had happened, when they were all together, when Sayaka was still not so consumed by her own destructive standards and ideals)
Something within her aches at the phantom familiarity. (They’re not them, and it wouldn’t be fair to Deuce and Ace to compare like so, either)
-----
Then as they walk to school, the real conversation starts. Of course, not without Grim taking the piss out of Ace before they launch the serious (TM) part of the morning.
How, and why, does Homura know how to fight? And where did that weapon summoning ability come from? Especially since her weapon/attack was ridiculously powerful
Homura mulls over possible answers in her head. Stopping time and running away is a temporary solution, so she might as well just give it to them. She never was particularly good with words though—having a terrible track record in persuasive language, most especially.
“Within my, our, world, I am a magical girl.”
Everyone just stops in their tracks to process this for a good few seconds.
Deuce and Ace zone in on “my world” first, and then move over to “magical girl”/
Yuu instantly fixates on the “magical girl” part.
Grim is puzzling over what “magical girl” means. If Homura is a part of a group, does that mean that whoever else was in that group would also be a super strong mage like Homura?
Deuce and Ace are now questioning whether they woke up in an anime. Another world??? Homura (and possibly, quite likely, Yuu) were otherworlders? Ma— Magical girls? What?
Ace makes it loud and clear he thinks Homura is joking. Deuce is actually kind of believing it, but he can’t reconcile Homura’s fighting prowess with the Sunday cartoons he saw as a kid with the cheesy attack names and flamboyant personalities onscreen. Hypothetically, if she were a magical girl, wouldn’t she be…happier?
Homura is deadly serious and states that she’s not joking. Ace is a little taken aback by that seriousness.
Yuu is finding this surprisingly easy to accept. (This is less because such a fact is easy to accept and probably more because of his own personality. After all in canon, he takes to being summoned/kidnapped to another world in a surprisingly calm manner.) But since last night, he’s been going through some older memories. Memories about the occasional strange, miraculous events and things that happen in the world and even within his own day-to-day life.
“Say that, if magical girls really exist…then… There was this time in Kazamino where I felt I was…pulled away—of some sorts—from an edge. Or, well, I’m not explaining this very well. But it felt like something had been given back to me. But the only thing I remembered about that time was this strangely dressed redhead. Well, and the apple next to me.”
Yeah it’s Kyoko. In a universe with witches, Yuu would’ve been a witch kiss victim had there not been Kyoko to bail him out. Personally, I think a lot of what Kyoko says about the whole food chain system is pretty much just words. She’s very outwardly cynical, but she does seem to try her best to not put people at risk: e.g. the chains blocking Madoka from her fight with Sayaka, and a lot of her interactions with Sayaka in the anime. (Haven’t read A Different Story yet but I’ve been told it’s quite good)
Yuu shares a memory, and Homura is 99% sure that was Kyoko.
Ace is starting to think Homura isn’t joking. If Yuu’s collaborating, then there’s probably a grain of truth in that. Although, both Deuce and Ace are starting to think there’s a discrepancy between their definition of a magical girl and Homura’s definition. Wouldn’t a magical girl be more…whimsical? Happier?
Homura decides to go on ahead and give them a quick td;lr of what entails a magical girl.
Her magic uses her soul gem (Ace thinks it’s a really odd and specific name for what’s basically a heavily decorated magestone) as a conductor. The soul gem is what allows a magical girl to use magic. A soul gem is created from a wish and the contract they create with a creature called an incubator, which calls itself Kyubey. Most magical girls contract around her age, or younger—basically usually around when puberty starts for girls. Both her costume and weapon(s) are a byproduct of the contract and thus her magic. So in exchange for any miracle, they fight creatures known as witches. Although, Homura cryptically remarks that she’s sure magical girls don’t fight witches anymore. Something else has likely replaced it.
All in all, it’s a “fair” contract. Homura remarks this in a very bitter tone.
Honestly, it’s led to more questions than answers for the rest of the group. It feels like there’s a lot that went unsaid, especially since Homura doesn’t look like she even enjoys being a magical girl. Things don’t add up: her behavior back then was more that of a hardened soldier in an action movie than a magical girl fighting against the forces of evil.
Yuu starts thinking about the mysterious deaths he’s heard occasionally on the local news. And, ruminating upon them… They were all girls. Most of which were around Homura’s age. (I mean, even without the witch thing, Madoka’s law of cycles still leaves bodies behind, which would be effectively dead without the soul gem.)
He thinks he’s getting a clearer picture of this magical girl business. But it’s not shaping out to be a pretty picture.
They walk in silence, til they nearly reach school. Grim, in an attempt to break the extremely awkward silence that he can no longer stand, starts ribbing Ace about his collar again. Deuce is internally, very glad about this, and so the canon convo about Ace requiring magic for a large number of their classes start and eventually goes towards Ace apologizing to their dorm leader so Ace can actually participate in class.
Homura decides to not go with the group to find Ace’s dorm leader to apologize and hopefully remove his collar. She needs to familiarise herself with the campus, and figure out which class she’s in. Low-key she doesn’t want to part away from them, especially Yuu since he’s a reminder of her previous universe (which she still wants to go back to because she hasn’t moved on from Madoka yet. So Homura’s been berating herself for being unable to do what she considers her duty—fighting whatever’s replaced witches—now that Madoka is a goddess). But better to know the layout of the campus now rather than later. Especially since she didn’t do it earlier the day before.
So they split ways.
-----
Homura immediately gets to work, and pretty much powerwalks her way to Crowley’s office first. She does her best to fade into the background, which is hard, since Homura has a large presence + girl in an all-boys school. So she pretty much deigns to ignore them. She grabs any required information, and also tries to see if she can get a map of the school, because it’s absolutely gigantic. She gets a map. And a whole bunch of other required school stuff because the rest of the faculty finally caught wind of the whole 14 year old in a high school who’s living in ramshackle dorm. And yeah Crowley needed to explain the whole mess about the otherworlder stuff. Crewel and Trein were side-eyeing the man with extreme judgment, because what on earth was he thinking of when he plonked them in ramshackle and called it a day. Do they even know anything about Twisted Wonderland?
Due to this when Homura, Yuu, and Grim come back to Ramshackle they find out Crowley fixed up parts of the dorm. It’s still as awful looking as ever but at least they have hot water now. And it’s a lot more livable than a “virtual death trap”.
Anyways guess which class I put her in
Yeah it’s still with the one braincell trio + Yuu. I’m not that mean. Homura can socialize and get her found family/new friends at her own pace.
So when she goes out, due to the power of plot and authorial control, she runs into Kalim again.
He’s all smiles and gladly introduces her to Jamil, who’s evaluating her since Kalim did talk about Homura saving his butt from fire (literally). Oh, Homura’s a student now? Wow that’s great! Both Kalim and Jamil are inwardly wondering if NRC suddenly became co-ed, but while Kalim waves it off, Jamil is overthinking about it. He’s not sure why they’d accept her though, no matter how many ideas he comes up with.
Kalim wants to be a good upperclassman to Homura, so he asks about her classes and so Homura shows him her schedule
Kalim can now lead her there! He does his best to make conversation with her in his own very friendly manner. Homura is actually a bit flustered (which is very well hidden behind a very good poker face), since she hasn’t been hit with such sudden and loud openness towards her in a very long time. It almost reminds her of—
Right, let’s not think about that again.
Kalim chatters about the school, getting Jamil to correct him from time to time. He also rattles on about Jamil and his reliability. Upon focusing on her ponytail, Kalim also talks about Jamil and his braids. Since they both have long hair, Jamil could probably teach her ways to make sure it’s not in the way.
It feels like a one-sided conversation, but Kalim doesn’t mind. Homura is still engaging by attentively listening anyways, so he’s not too bothered by it.
They reach Homura’s classroom!
Homura goes into the classroom, and is suddenly bowled over by a strong feeling of homesickness (Even if there really wasn’t much she looked forward to in that world). She came in, subconsciously still expecting to see the glass walls of Mitakihara Middle, with its minimalist designs. And now she sees the vastly different designs of NRC. It looks more like a stereotypical, olden-style lecture room.
Kalim & Jamil part ways with Homura. Kalim is especially eager to see her again, and promises to try and find her during lunchtime. Homura says nothing but nods in acknowledgment.
Kalim’s overt friendliness is disarming all on its own. And Homura doesn’t know how to feel, with acceptance coming in so easily.
Crewel has not arrived yet. Most students other than a scant few aren’t there yet either. Homura takes a seat and starts to look through the required texts for her classes. She has no desire to be like the her from before—ignorant and completely unequipped to deal with any sort of challenges.
-----
When Crewel arrives, he casts a glance to see one of his otherworlder students. He’s struck by how young Homura does look, and is. He makes a note to talk to both otherworlders after class since it’s possible that both of them had wildly different kinds of education in terms of content compared to Twisted Wonderland. To assume would be the height of stupidity. After all, if he wanted all of his puppies (students) to pass, Crewel needed to put the work in as well. Pups are raised with guidance, not just left to their own.
When the one braincell trio + Yuu come rushing into class, Homura notes that Ace still has his collar. And that they all smelt of paint. Discreetly checking their clothing, Homura notes there are small splashes of red of Ace and Yuu in particular. Were they all dragging into a punishment for Ace that required red paint?
So yeah after that class Crewel makes sure to talk to them and let them know they can come to him for help due to their unique circumstances.
Homura thinks he’s perfectly fine, but his mannerisms are odd. In that constantly referring to students are puppies, using a whip in class, and the constant dog training esque remarks if they either did well or poorly. Also judging from his clothing and his overall appearance though, he really liked taking care of his appearance. And red, black, and white, apparently.
Trein does not do an after-class talk, but he does recommend certain books or pages of their textbooks to study specifically to the otherworlder duo. He’s old and NRC’s students make him want to take a long nap with Lucian along with this latest incident, but he also can’t fault literal children who didn’t ask to be whisked away to an entirely new world.
Mozus Trein’s in-class narration is high-key extremely dry, but if Homura could sit through endless repeats of her class and learn how to construct a wide manner of homemade weapons, then she could sit through a dry history lecture. She does wish Professor Trein would actually add some variation to his tone though. However, Homura probably doesn’t mind not getting to hear a long rant about eggs and romantic partners this time.
PE. Coach Vargas. Homura has zero idea of what to make of that guy. Is there anything going on in his head? Was this guy the actual reigning champion of selective hearing? Thank god for magically enhanced stamina and strength, so she can keep up with Deuce. Ace is a basketballer, but wow do his arms hate him. Then again, one hundred push-ups after twenty laps around a humongous field are usually enough to make any normal person collapse. Grim and Yuu are dying, please send help. Yuu only took swimming club as an after-school activity, running and push-ups are not the same as swimming endless laps. Grim, is well, Grim. He’s basically a baby monster, he’s definitely whinging and whining about it.
Classes are simultaneously new yet old for Homura. It’s similar to Mitakihara, yet still very vastly different from it. It’s still quite interesting though, learning about new things. Sometimes the subjects coincided and meshed mostly rather well with what she already learned herself. Mostly maths, and biology. Secretly, she quite enjoys the challenge of learning something new.
Nobody comments on Homura being there. For peace of mind, everyone simply does not acknowledge that she’s a girl. NRC students may do stupid things and are somehow weirdly easy to aggravate but they also like the path of least resistance most of the time. Tbh Homura hasn’t really gone through the entirety of puberty yet so she can maybe pass off as a very feminine-looking guy.
Grim cuts class. And before Deuce and Ace can even try and extort Yuu for food via favor (catching Grim), Homura is already out and running. She’s not dealing with this, and Yuu doesn’t need to deal with this. Grim gets hauled back to Yuu.
Ace can only make a quip about the fact that, while Yuu is currently the worst dorm prefect, at least he has the world’s most efficient vice-prefect. Since Ace has pretty much said insensitive things from time to time from when they first met, Homura scathingly reminds Ace of incidents that he had caused and ended up dragging Yuu into. Deuce is very pointedly looking away when she brings up the chandelier incident. His ears are red. RIP Deuce and Ace (And also Grim, because Homura gives him a stern talking to)
Deuce inwardly wonders how he’s ever going to be an honors student if he’s already being inadvertently dressed down by a middle-schooler. Yuu is a little touched he has Homura pretty much standing up for him. He offers to buy her something for lunch later.
It’s lunchtime anyways, so they head over to the cafeteria. And that’s where we end today’s bullet point chapter, because I need to figure out if I should put Riddle in mortal danger. I hope there are not too many typos here.
