Prismacolor pencil anon update: got a set of brutfuner watercolor pencils! My cheap ass could NOT refuse 120 of them for 30 dollars, my set of 36 Prismas was more than that. So far I like them! The cores are harder than the Prismas but I did specifically get the Soft Core Prismas, so the bruts don't play as nice with my cheap coloring book paper (so i may need to try that sanding trick you mentioned) but they look AMAZING on my sketchbook paper. That, and I can PAINT with them too like bruh you draw with the color and then you put water on it and it looks painted now. Magic. Gonna have to learn how to watercolor with pencils like that tho bc I think I used way too much water my first time and washed everything out. I just kinda went #yolo and tested shit without like, even once googling a tutorial first lmao.
Ooooo I didn't even know brutfuner sold watercolor pencils?? Watercolor pencils have a slightly different/harder formula than regular pencils so they're never my favorite but I'm glad you like them! When you get more experienced and get a little more change on you I want you to test out Derwent inktense pencils. They're just like watercolor pencils but they use ink instead!

Hey, long time no art posting! I haven't forgotten at all, just I didn't know what to post here. There are several OCs I need to introduce, but I'd have to post old art. Which I am debating on that. But anyways, I brought back my half-dragon boy~
Tumblr media
And oh goodness, it's another full-colored drawing?? I'm on a roll!
He is featured in my latest video, this time about Artfol. 🎨🖌️ It's a tutorial about how the culture there works. I shared it yesterday, but I'll promote it again because I am happy with how it came out: youtu.be/toHJP_53I4U (also because shameless self-promo)
The first speedpaint featuring a male OC, finally! 😭💖
It was painted mostly with Prismacolors.

Does anyone have recommendations for any free art tutorial pages and videos geared for basic beginners? Are there any good communities for beginners to show work that is very crude without worrying about shaming while learning?
It isn't *just* that I am years out of practice, many of my tribulations and injuries, over the past decades, sapped my basic knowledge. I really want to get my chops back and I can't even remember basic exercises. It's kept me from even trying for too long and I need to remember the following wise words:
Tumblr media
I do have a nice selection of Prismacolor pencils that I acquired the past couple years from liquidation shops and clearance sales and it's time I put them to work.

Thank you, @muunarexia! I'm super thrilled with how it came out and have been gazing at it on my wrist all evening!!
The method I used is not marbling via waterdip or hydrographics (I got what you were going for). The secret is Sharpies and isopropyl alcohol! Sharpies (and Copics!) are alcohol-based, so for this watercolor effect you're basically diluting whatever color you put down. Here's how you do it...
Precautions
I am not responsible for any damage done to your Tamagotchi Smart or wristband that results from following this tutorial. (Also not responsible for stains on clothes and skin.)
Do not use hand sanitizer or other alcohol-based substances on wristband after coloring: the colors will run.
I am still testing the colorfastness of this method. Proceed at your own risk.
Work in a well-ventilated area and keep materials away from flame. Please try not to get isopropyl alcohol on your skin.
While isopropyl alcohol should remove the majority of unwanted markings, there is a chance the material may be permanently stained.
Materials needed:
Alcohol-based markers (Sharpie, Copic, Prismacolor, etc.)
Isopropyl alcohol
Q-tip/cotton swab(s)
Paper towel(s)
Instructions:
1. Wipe down entire wristband with isopropyl alcohol to remove any dust, dirt and oils.
2. Lay down color with marker (I recommend an abstract shape)
Tumblr media
3. Soak Q-tip in isopropyl alcohol, then carefully dab the mark made in Step 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Quickly dry the isopropyl alcohol by placing paper towel on top. The longer you wait, the more color will be diluted or stripped away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Repeat Steps 2-4 until the outward-facing side of the wristband is covered. (Color on the back risks transfer to the Smart unit or your skin and is not recommended.)
Tumblr media
All said, it does seem like Sharpies stick very nicely to the Smart wristbands. Of course the color must be darker than the base material, otherwise it might not show up. Always do a test spot on the back of the strap to confirm the color before fully committing to it!
I think that's it...
Craft responsibly! (And tag me when you're done - I wanna see!)

Updated ref sheet for the slime critter! Now includes a view from behind, redesigned ears (thank you random YouTube shorts tutorial), and clothes! That lighter blue is a pair of shorts. Keep in mind this is just his main form, he's a shapeshifting slime, and he shapeshifts a lot - don't expect him to be quite the same every day. He uses this form most often, but if he wants hooves instead of paws, wings, a different tail or ear shape, to be a taur for a while, to be quadrupedal for a while, to be an actual loaf with no arms or legs, or really whatever he can think of, he'll do it.
Prismacolors used are true blue for the shorts, and pink, true green, and ultramarine everywhere else.
