simple negative energy capture spell jar
hello! this is a spell from my bos that i typed out today, and thought i'd share with all of you.
it's a basic energy capture jar. what it does is it takes negative energy that hits it and absorbs it into the jar, keeping a space safe. it can be considered to be a type of ward.
feel free to modify this to your needs! if you try it, let me know how it goes in the notes.
ingredients
a jar or bottle of your choosing
a small mirror to go on top of the jar (i prefer aluminum foil, but either works)
a binding sigil, either handmade or sources from someone else
obsidian for protection
basil for attracting negativity to the jar (and not you)
cinnamon for protection and defense
mugwort for a magical boost
hyssop for purifying the captured negative energy
st. john's wort to handle the negativity
dandelion for added protection
a black candle
optional: mullein, acrimony
steps
create, print, or copy down your sigil. assemble other ingredients and perform any pre-spell rituals you have.
place ingredients into the jar. you can select the order, or you can do it like this: cinnamon, basil, st. john's, dandelion, hyssop, mugwort.
as you place each ingredient into the jar, visualize your intent for it. you can also speak an affirmation such as "this jar will protect me" if you wish.
fold your sigil thrice away from you, tucking it in the jar, and following it with your crystal.
pop the cork, lid, or seal on the jar.
seal JUST the edges with the candle, and place the mirror in the center of the closing contraption.
et voila, you're done! place it wherever you need that protection.
notes
i'm autistic and selectively mute, so i usually don't speak during my spells, focusing more on intention. this is something you can modify.
i would rate this an 8/10. it's a good basic protection jar, and you don't need anything too extensive for protections unless someone is after you or something anyway.
anyway, i hope that's helpful to someone! if you have comments, suggestions, etc., do let me know. part of what i miss about old witchblr is the open dialogue that used to be spread on posts; people don't talk enough now. so feel free to come talk to me, and if you have improvements, i'm all ears!
thank you for your time.

My take is that there's no blanket statement about the safety of magic for beginners that applies to all situations.
I think we can all agree that magic isn't universally and inherently dangerous, but that doesn't mean that it's universally and inherently safe and that beginners get a mystical free pass that protects them from real dangers or their own mistakes.
It's like driving. Some vehicles are safer than others. You can drive like a reckless idiot or drive safely and responsibly.
But that doesn't mean that driving through Los Angeles at rush hour and driving down a snowy mountain road in Montana carry the same risks or require the same skillsets and vehicles to safely navigate.
We all get to decide our own level of risk aversion. And it's a pros-cons thing, just like everything else.
You can ward out the ass and lock your metaphysical space down so tight that you can barely manifest a spell. But if that's the level of security you need to feel comfortable working with magic, so be it.
You can never ward or even learn protections and develop an illustrious and fulfilling magical career, and simply deal with any problems as they arise with other skills like banishing.
The thing that fucking sucks about magic is that nobody is the final authority and nobody can simply tell you how much protection you need or exactly what kind to learn. Bad things happen to some beginners that practice without protections. Nothing bad happens at all to other beginners.
IMO, educate yourself a bit, decide how much risk you're willing to accept, and go for it. Everyone makes mistakes and there are very few things that can happen which cannot be corrected.

Fine lines are the jam. @paigegrace.ink is the go to! 🧿 The "evil eye" isn't actually a curse but the anti curse. It is a protection symbol to ward off envy and bad intentions/luck steaming from envy. J. K. Rowling and Neil Gaiman are such a funny contrast to me, like Rowling: Oh, and by the way, I put gay characters in my books. People: Is there anything... showing that? Rowling: No. Also trans women don't deserve respect People: wtf Gaiman: Here are some immortals that transcend all human concepts of gender and attraction who use a variety of pronouns, and also some clearly canon human queers. People: Are the immortals queer? Gaiman: That is an entirely valid way to view them. Other people: Ugh, pushing a modern woke agenda. It used to be- Gaiman: Fuck you

i personally don't believe in the "cleanse everything you bring into your home" rule. to me, it's like...sure you could be clearing away negativity, but you're also clearing away positivity. i don't need my things to be neutral, i need them to benefit my craft. especially with second hand objects, there might be love, aid, unique energy, etc. attached to it. so i believe in cleansing things when they need to be cleansed evidently, and not a second sooner.

What can happen when you cast spells and do magick without practicing protection? 🤔
For a majority of people, what happens is nothing bad. Your spells manifest! Fun stuff happens!
The world isn't filled with evil spirits waiting to jump on you the very second you stop going to church, or whatever. Magic isn't inherently malevolent and waiting to rot your wellbeing if you touch it without a hazmat suit on.
On average the universe and our world is actually a pretty great place filled with love.
But every once and a while, a person just attracts lots of spirits. And even if they're "good" spirits, that activity and attention can be stressful and unwanted.
Or, a person lives in a haunted ass place and opening themselves up to it can suck. Stuff can happen, is what I'm saying.
You do not have to learn protections first before you learn any other kind of magic. Practice what you want as it interests you.
If you're particularly paranoid or anxious, why not learn protections first?
Protections can be used for lots of practical situations, too. Like, protecting against accumulating debt. Or, protecting against getting fired. Protecting against failure in your studies. Protecting against meeting jerks when you look up social clubs to hang out at.
Anyway, do the sort of magic you like. If you run into a problem, fix it. Maybe you need protections to fix it and maybe you don't. If learning protections helps you with a situation, learn them. If you don't feel comfortable practicing magic without protection, learn them why not.

I'm aware that this is a pretty big blog, so I try to avoid putting people on blast- mostly cause I don't want anyone tracking folks down and dogpiling on them for the unforgivable sin of "being wrong about a thing",
Because we are all hilariously, ridiculously and unabashedly incorrect about things at times, and that doesn't deserve the embarrassment of a thousand jeering, judging strangers with their careless mockery and casual insults,
That being said

Loving reminder from your land history auntie:
North American golf courses have had 50-100 years of arsenic and mercury based fungicide and herbicides applied to their soils.
Do not eat anything that has been grown on a golf course or downstream from a golf course. I know it sounds cool and radical, but you are too valuable to poison yourself with heavy metals.
Protect each other, turn your local golf course into a pollinator garden, not a sex forest or community garden.

This is a picture of Montaser Al Sawaf, another Palestinian journalist killed by the IOF:
Tumblr media
I am continually enraged by the normalization of Palestinian people's deaths in mainstream western media, and the constant dehumanization of each of their lives. They are not just numbers -they are people who have dreams, ambitions, livelihoods, families, friends, hobbies, and interests.
The IOF is committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, is breaking dozens of international laws and UN Conventions -is committing mass genocide -but a small fraction of people in power get to determine the narrative of 'who is the REAL victim here,' by reinforcing IOF and American propaganda which sides with settler-colonial violence -and it is beyond abhorrent.
