Bjork, Reykjavic, Iceland, 24 September 1998 by Harry Borden.
“Harry recalls the shoot with Björk: “Visually sophisticated and engaged in the process, it’s not enough to get just a ‘good’ portrait of Björk.”

City Tour In Reykjavík
The sun was out and the weather was fantastic. We started off our first day with a visit to the famed and largest church in Iceland, Hallgrímskirkja. We recommend walking up the street of Skólavörðustígur to reach Hallgrímskirkja and the view of the building from the distance is amazing.
After taking some photos of the building, we went inside to buy tower admission tickets at the ground floor. The entrance to the church is free. It only costs when you want to take the elevator up to the tower, which is highly recommended if you want to see a bird’s eye view of the city. The panoramic views of the city are breathtaking. On a clear sunny day, you can even see the glacier.
Now that we’ve seen the city from the top, it was time to explore all those unique, colorful houses, and buildings we’ve seen from the tower. The city is so charming with all the colorful houses and street arts. You never know what you will find while exploring the streets of Reykjavík. But you most definitely wouldn’t want to miss out on taking pictures of the bright colored houses you will pass by. Every corner is definitely a perfect spot for a photo. The city of Reykjavík may be small but it has a lot to offer.
We stayed in Sand Hotel which is located in Laugavegur. Laugavegur is one of the main shopping streets in the heart of the city. It’s where the action is. We wandered in and out of quirky Icelandic design shops, browsed through the several book stores and art galleries and just took in all the action.
Be sure to stop into one of the many cozy cafes and bakeries on Laugavegur. We had coffee at Icelandic Street Food Cafe. They provide brownies and coconut macaroons for free. We’ve read from the reviews, they serve yummy traditional Icelandic shellfish and lamb soups serve in a bread bowl. Hope to try them next time we visit Reykjavík.
We took the Hop-On Hop-Off double-decker bus to venture out further of the city center. It was a perfect way to see many of the important sights at our own leisure. The ticket was good for 24-hour.
Above photo is called the Monument To The Unknown Bureaucrat. This seemingly anonymous worker is immortalized in art. The unique statue was sculpted by Magnús Tómasson in 1994. You have to decide for yourself whether it was meant as a serious tribute or a humorous satirical piece. This monument is located in Tjörnin where you also find the huge swan’s pond.
Reykjavík’s town center is relatively small, which makes it easy to explore on foot. After covering a lot of ground, we were ready for a delicious meal to end the day. We had dinner at Reykjavík Fish Restaurant and tried some of their local cuisines. It was absolutely an incredible day!
