ZWEI?! 🔥🔥🔥 I've been wanting to make flaming Zweis for AGES. March was very difficult for me, so despite being pretty overwhelmed, I took a self care day and sculpted, since that was a way for me to do something soothing and still be productive. My suffering has become your joy, because Flaming Zwei was born! As with all my charms, Flaming Zwei was hand sculpted in polymer clay (I use Fimo) and baked. I then made several molds using silicone rubber from @smoothon and cast 5 Zweis at a time in epoxy resin. While Flaming Zwei is not a complicated sculpt, he is much larger than most of my charms (2" instead of 1") because I wanted the pieces to be thick enough if I chose to make squishies (I may not be able to because of the high material cost), and the mold is very complicated. Flaming Zwei is cast in opaque white (body) and transparent orange and yellow (fire) resin. Because of the number of colors and the undercuts in the mold, each mold must be held together with 3 rubber bands while curing. After curing, each corgi is lovingly demolded, painted, and sealed. It takes about 40 minutes to create a single Flaming Zwei. If you'd like your own, I'll have them at Animinneapolis and Anime Midwest, or you can buy one from me directly. They are not on Etsy. I Zwei with my little eye... Okay, but I'm honestly not 100% happy with this pattern. I shouldn't complain since I've never made a plush before and have no clue where to start, but it honestly doesn't look that much like a corgi even after I lengthened the snout, which I had to do a LOT. I'm used to commercial patterns that come with decent instructions, too, but this one leaves a LOT of guesswork. I have never liked guessing. I became increasingly discontent with this pattern after getting the head all stuffed and attaching the eyes. I thought it would look more corgi-like in 3D, but it looks less corgi-like? Again, this is my first plush, and while I've drafted plenty of patterns for BJD clothes, I've certainly never made my own plush pattern. But like... the original doesn't even really look like a corgi? The snout is too short and thick. I lengthened it and thought it would be okay, but now he looks like a damn pelican. So I pulled all the stuffing out of the head and turned it inside out so I could mod it. Welp, this pattern didn't come with a seam allowance, so after I drew out all the markings and made the modifications I wanted (this involved lots of staring at screenshots from RWBY and RWBY Chibi as well as at the pattern pictures to see how everything actually fits together), I added 3/8" all the way around. You'll notice there's a fair amount of overlap, especially where the added markings are, so I'll be tracing the whole thing onto tissue paper. I'm weirdly actually all caught up on Etsy orders except for one I got while working on this, so tomorrow, I'll get that made, pack up all the orders I've made in the past two days, work out (I need the endorphins so I can be less sad), and tackle this punk. I won't stream since I have no idea what I'm doing and don't require an audience to make an ass out of myself. Streams are fun, though. I hope to do more in the future. So, 111 days until Volume 7! As you may know, I'm the Weiss admin over on the Zwei - RWBY Facebook page. Every year, we have a countdown to the new volume featuring my mediocre art, and now that we have a release date (November 2nd), we're starting. Zwei is first, since the page is dedicated to Zwei. The rest will be digital versions of the sketches I did for this year's and last year's art challenge. I know most of you are looking forward to Volume 7, but I'm pretty apprehensive. While Volume 6 had its high points (mainly lore and beeeeeeeees), I overall didn't care for it (first time that's happened for me), and I'm really hating the new outfits, particularly Weiss'. Given how poorly written and reliant on sheer cringe the Argus scenes were, I'm legitimately concerned they'll stick to the same tropes in Atlas itself. RWBY is my favorite show, and I really don't want to end up hating it. I also hope Volume 7 doesn't end up becoming some hamfisted political commentary, either.
