@wonderhood.design Sacred Grounds Soho has it all: Sex Shops, Saunas and now Sacred Grounds ☕ Sacred Grounds is the first work to come from the Neighbourly Fund, an annual pro-bono initiative by @wonderhood.design that supports local, independent Soho businesses through branding and design. The new identity celebrates the church’s location in the heart of Soho and its inclusive part of the local LGBTQIA+ community, with a tongue-in-cheek tone of voice and visual identity that nods to the ornate and classic details of the church but set in more modern context, with a bold and vibrant colour palette. The brand identity was rolled out across all touchpoints in-store and was supported by an OOH flyposter campaign, social and, of course, a range of merchandise, with proceeds going back to the church to support their community work. The approach to Zen temples will have several gates known as torii. Before reaching the main hall of the temple you will pass through three: the main gate, the central gate and the triple gate which represent the journey towards enlightenment. Shintō shrines also have these torii. Why have these seemingly superfluous structures? Well, they're considered 'necessary non-essentials'. The gates are referred to as 'spiritual barriers' and connect two separate world, as you pass through each one you come closer to a pure world, or as the Buddhists consider 'sacred ground'. By creating a boundary between worlds, they help you to become aware of the distance between each one. Your commute to work can also been seen as a similar 'necessary non-essential' as it can provide you time to switch between your private self and your work self helping you to become adept at switching modes. Try erecting gates in your mind, for example, your home is the first gate and you can begin to think about work. The second gate is the train, car or bus you use to get to work and you can begin to plan for work. The last is your office when you are ready to focus on beginning work.
