please tell, what social media au are you reading right now?
not lucemond! sowwy. it's a sambucky fic and the fic embeds text convos, tweets, and instagram posts as pictures and idk i'm just like wowwww so neat. it's a silly, horny ass fic that i loved so much even beyond the aspect that intrigued me :)
the fic is "a chance by siancore" on ao3
summary: Bucky Barnes is a Fuckboy. He exhibits Fuckboy Behavior. Everyone knows it. Especially his best friend, Steve Rogers. Then, one day, he sees one of Steve's social media post with a gorgeous guy named Sam Wilson. Steve's friend is hot and Bucky's interested, but the dude is still Steve's friend. Can Bucky quit his Fuckboy ways to have chance with Sam? Dad Friend Steve doesn’t think it’s such a good idea that they hook up because he doesn’t think Bucky can or wants to change, and more importantly, Steve doesn’t want to see Sam get hurt. Can Bucky change his ways and prove Steve wrong or is the whole thing a disaster waiting to happen?

Queerbaiting vs. Fan Service
For whatever reason, I decided to take a stroll through The Falcon and The Winter Soldier tags after the second episode, and I was slightly distressed (and mostly annoyed) with how many people were labeling the interactions between Sam and Bucky as queerbaiting. You can imagine my confusion.
Now, as a gay man, nothing would please me more to see a relationship between two men in a big budget action franchise, even if it is just the MCU. Ignoring the reality that this is Disney and that they'll probably never have a gay or bisexual main character in anything, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is not the place to draw that line in the sand.
I've been on this app for about eight years now, and I can't tell you the number of times I've seen people make and reblog posts about the desire to see more men be friends with one another, to not fall victim to the toxic masculinity. How many times have you opened opened this app and seen posts about "let men cry" or "let men be intimate with each other without making it weird"? And yet, every time, almost as if on a timer, the moment two guys (either in a show or actual people) look at each other for longer than .05 seconds, a ship is born.
Now, there's nothing inherently wrong with shipping. Especially when you factor in the fact that same sex romances are severely lacking in modern media. I myself am attracted to the idea of SamBucky, because they have foundation there that if the producers decided, could be used to build a relationship off of. I did the same with Steve and Bucky in the MCU. Like I said, there's nothing wrong with shipping, but some people take it too far. In this instance, I've been seeing too many people claim "queerbaiting" because Sam rescued Bucky from falling to his death under a moving truck or because of the therapy scene where they had to face each other and get real close.
That is not queerbaiting.
For starters, it's been two episodes. The show isn't even halfway over. Not that I expect Disney to actually do something like that, but it's precisely this need to jump the gun and declare something that makes the problem worse within the fandom. And more to the point, I'm not entirely sure many of you know what the term queerbaiting actually means.
Queerbaiting is when a show or movie or whatever, sets up a relationship between two people of the same sex, has everything point in the direction of them becoming a romantic pairing, only to, at the last second, have one or both of them enter into a heterosexual relationship or be killed off.
A great example of this, and the first that pops into my mind, is The Magicians, specifically Queliot. Now, anyone who followed me, especially when the show as airing, knows I'm not the biggest fan of that ship, but in the fourth season of the show, they spent a great deal of time setting up Quentin and Eliot finding their way to each other, only for the production to kill off Quentin in the finale of the season. One could even argue that having Quentin chose Alice for a reconciliatory relationship after they did everything to set up Quentin and Eliot is another form of queerbaiting, eschewing the same-sex romance in favor of a heterosexual one.
Now, circling back to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, what we have here is not a case of queerbaiting. Production of the show, and the MCU in general, more than likely scour Twitter and Instagram and whatever else and see the fandom reaction to certain ships/pairings, and specifically make scenes or scenarios where those two characters have to interact. That is called fan service, an entirely different animal.
A great example of fan service would be Teen Wolf. As anyone who has been following me knows, I've been talking about this topic a lot recently, thanks to one particularly persistent anon. If you've ever interacted with the Teen Wolf fandom, you know that the big ship that dominated it was Sterek, despite it being something that wasn't based at all in canon. Jeff Davis, after seeing how fans reacted to the few interactions of Derek and Stiles in season one, gave the fandom a more in season two, such as the pool scene, or when they were both paralyzed by Kanima venom in the sheriff's station, the dream sequence at the end of season three, or the ride to Mexico in season four. Hell, even the comedic sequence in the final season of Stiles "rescuing" Derek from the FBI to make it back to Beacon Hills for the final showdown was fan service. What it wasn't, was queerbaiting, because Sterek wasn't something that the show set up. It was something that the fandom set up, which more power to them, but with that being established, people still got mad because the show didn't go the way they (the fandom) decided it should have gone.
This same thing happened with Stucky. The idea of Bucky and Steve was appealing. If either one of them had been a woman in the MCU then their relationship would have very easily been interpreted in canon as romantic, but as it stands, that's not the case. They were just two very close friends.
Brining it back to my original point, we have Sambucky, and no matter how much fandom kicks and screams and demands, it won't happen in the show. It's alright to ship them, because I do see the appeal, but at the end of the day, too many people are getting upset about something that fandom made up and that canon doesn't deliver on, despite the two being unaffiliated. You want to ship Sam and Bucky, I fully support you in that endeavor. I myself like the idea of it, and often tag posts as such, but calling it queerbaiting in an attempt to shame people for not supporting it is misleading.
Bottom line: queerbaiting is a very specific thing and there are actual shows out there that are perpetrators of it. Please try and actually understand what queerbaiting is before you simply throw the term out at every inconvenience.

Was Sebastian Stan in some scandal/controversy recently? I saw the previous ask about the interview and I agree his stans are terrible and it would be nice not to have to deal with them, but I wasn’t aware people had major issues with Stan himself. Did something happen or does this just relate back to his fans? Just curious as I wasn’t sure if I was out of the loop on something or not. I don’t really follow any actor social medias or controversies so I often am.
Hi Anon!!! Wow, this might be long. So I'll start with what I know about and will end with some of the other stuff I have seen.
So yeah his fans are the worst, but he's not innoncent either. But if you ask me, the behavior of his fans is also related to this, they made things 10 times worse.
My problem with Sebastian Stan goes back to a few years ago. I used to be a big Sebastian Stan fan because of his friendship with Anthony Mackie. His fandom was already problematic but I never held it against Sebastian .... I would even support his movies and everything ( I even watched his olympics movie and was shattered by that scene...). So everything was great until he made a post on Instagram about his movie I Tonya.... and the meme said "this is real kneeling" or "back to when kneeling meant something".... i don't remember the exact words anymore but does someone have a screenshot?
And this all happened when Colin Kapaernick was kneeling... Which was a very sensitive time, when Kap also didn't get a lot of support and got so many criticism for calling out racism and police violence. At the time his kneeling had stirred up a lot of contreversy and people really showed their true colors and a lot of racists (politicians, actors, ... etc) came out of the woods. So Sebastian's post came at the worst moment ever and was truly disturbing. It's one thing not to vocally support an anti-racism activist or stay silent, it's another thing to actively post something that brings down a man who is already facing so much criticism for saying one thing :"Stop being racist and killing Black people".
Sebastian Stan isn't a child and has been living in the US long enough to know what he was doing.
If someone does something racist, I'm going to assume that the person is racist until proven otherwise. ad it has been disgusting watching his stans try to ignore the avoid the conversation.
"I know Sebastian, he's not racist" "He's friend with Anthony he can't be racist" If you are someone who has ever written something like this you are part of the problem....(general you here I'm of course not talking about you anon)
That post was racist, anf best case scenario, he didn't understand the Kap thing, which is still awful because it means he doesn't care about non-White people dying or being harmed.
So as a fan, seeing a White celebrity you liked clearly express he doesn't care about you, is disheartening.
It's not exactly a surprise because I always expect some White Men and Women to be rwcist but it's still a disappointment. And watching White Sebastian Stan stans trying to brush it off was the worst part of it.
White people always act like being accused of racism is worst than actually being racist. If you really want to improve things you need to acknowledge it when racism happens.... and you have to say the word "that post was racist" "what I did was racist" not "it's ignorance" "it's clumsy". You cannot say you're anti-racist and then try to sh*t down people who are calling out racist behavior.
Racism is a reality, some people are racist and it's a reality, and if you try to deny it whenever you get the accusation no one will go anywhere, it'll just end up with non-White people being hurt and silenced.
Anthony Mackie got accusations of being homophobic, because of some stupid stuff like not shipping sambucky (only stupid people think that not liking a ship equals homophobia I'm sorry if the truth hurts) but some of the accusations came from the fact that he had said some stuff about male friendships, and you know why I don't think that Anthony is homophibic? Because he has talked about it, acknoweledged it and said the words: he has talked about how he grew up in a homophibic environnement how he got called out for homophobic remarks in college and has been working on it ever since.
If you do something racist, you apologize and you say it... What I did was racist, and you don't ever do it again.
Sebastian Stan stans do the opposite... they cover up racist stuff and then end up being 10 mores racists while trying to defend their fave.
Sebastian Stan was only able to give a fake *ss apology after that post and the rest of the time is happy ignoring everything going on around him.
Yes, Sebastian doesn't attend White Supremacist rallies (to my Knowledge) but that's not what racism is only about... it's also only hiring White people and seeing no problem with it, thinking White people are better in every aspect, not being bothered by injustice when it happens to non-White people. And this is a reality a lot of Black people have to deal with daily. I've had colleagues who would say the most racist things unbothered, I had a coworker who would tell me that Black women had no luck when it came to hair, that asian hair was the best, then came White hair and at the very bottom came Black hair, I had a coworker tell me that I probably had climbed a tree to eat a banana, and the list goes on and on..
And you know what my White friends would say whenever I talked about it? "Oh no it isn't racist, they're just ignorant" "They didn't mean it" "it's nothing" and expected me to just take it... My friends...
It took me not standing it anymore and writing to my HR director to know that I was not overreacting... the HR director called me and talled me that that behavior was clearly racist no questions asked.
But if I had listenend to my White friends I would have suffered in silence for a few years more.
White people, you need to stop doing this. I know it's uncomfortbale but you have to know that some of you are racist and trying to ignore or hide it makes things 10 times worse.
That's how Sebastian Stan are... they just want the Black fans to take it. Because it would be too inconvient to admit that they are stanning a racist White man. That is more important than listening to the Black fans.
Calling out Trump for being a racist is super easy. But do you call out your own family memebers when theyre being racist? Your friends? You fave? And people who have ever said "I know Sebastian and he's not racist " "he has a Black friend he can't be racist" are disgusting. I'm not telling anybody to stop stanning Sebastian Stan... you do you. I'm telling people that if there are justified accusations against your fave, you sh*t up and listen... You demand a real apology from your fave and not a fake *ss one like the one Sebastian made.
You don't say "well he apologized so get over it, what else can he do". I'm saying this because my asks are always open I have received a dozens of asks like these. So yeah, Sebastian Stan has been a big disappointemrnt to me and fell from a pedestal he will never get back on, but he's not the worst, the worst has been his stans who are in a big majority extremily racist. It's all linked. This was my own thoughts and below some of the other stuff I have seen but won't form any thoughts. Here are some of the stuff he was called out for but I don't know much about: -he liked a video of a White man talking about whether or not it was racist for White people to say the n word. I don't have much thoughts about this because I haven't seen the video but I just would like to comment that people like to brish this off whenever it comes up and Letitia Wright's video is still brought up one year later? - he posted a pictute on Instagram holding a Buddha statue in his Tommy outfit I'll let people who are Buddhists comment on this one. -His girlfriend is allegedly racist? I'm not a big fan of blaming someone for someone else's actions but just for your information, some people haven been calling him out for this. What surprises me was that one of the evidence was that she was wearing a Kimono while in Japan...? But honestly I don't know and don't follow celeb gossip. So here are other stuff because you asked, but to me the kneeling post was the breaking point. I don't mind posting Stackie stufff from time to time because they're really hilarious and celebrities are celeberities, I don't know them and I consider watching interviews as entertainement, actors are not my friends and I see them as entertainers. But the reaction of the Sebastian Stan fandom in that whole stuff has been extremely disgusting and sickening and really takes away the joy out of this whole thing.

The sambucky fandom is like: we share three brain cells.
The first one is permanently borrowed by the shitposters for their incorrect quotes (that is, quotes that are not yet in the show).
The second one is for making art to accompany headcanons/songs or headcanons/songs to accompany art.
The last one is used to express our admiration and never ending love for Anthony Mackie.
Sometimes, Sebastian Stan borrows the first two to make a post on Instagram.

It would cool to see a little fic or something about Sam and Bucky being cat dads, or just anything related to the fact that they both have cats.
ahhh this is so cute?? i'm going to use this for the "laundry basket" square on my @marvelpetbingo card, too! 🐈 🐈‍⬛
creator: omg-just-peachy | square filled: G4/ laundry basket | rating: G | warnings: none | main character/main ship: sambucky
***
Bucky unlocks the door, drops his keys in the basket by the door, and is pouring himself a glass of water when it hits him.
Alpine hadn't come to greet him when he walked in.
He can't remember the last time he'd come home and hadn't seen the small white cat making a beeline for him, purring loudly and curling herself around his ankles, begging for attention.
"Alpine?" Bucky calls. He would not be resorting to pspspsp unless absolutely necessary.
He pokes his head into the bedroom, half expecting her to be curled up on his pillow, but the bed and all the pillows are empty. He checks the living room next, double checking to be sure he hadn't walked right by Alpine's sleeping form on the couch, but he strikes out again — no cat.
"Hey, Sam? Babe?" Bucky yells, changing tactics.
"Laundry room!" Sam calls back, and Bucky jogs down the steps, following Sam's voice to the laundry room. Realistically, he knows it's not like Alpine's missing or anything, it's just that he's gotten spoiled by her constant attention; she's as attuned to his movements as he is to hers at this point.
"Hey, have you seen—" Bucky starts, but before he can even finish his question, Sam points to the laundry basket at his feet, where Alpine and Sam's own cat, Figaro, are curled up, the best of friends, amid their their clean clothes.
"Can't get 'em out," Sam says. "Hi," he adds, pulling Bucky in for a kiss. "They followed me down here," he explains. "Made themselves right at home in there, the little gremlins."
"Aw, they're not gremlins," Bucky says, already pulling out his phone and taking a picture of the two of them. "Remember when we thought they'd hate each other?" He smiles down at his phone, posting the picture to Instagram. Sam would laugh at him when he saw it later — the vast majority of his account is dedicated to various pictures of Sam and the cats these days, but he doesn't care.
"Yeah," Sam laughs. "Now they run the house and we just live here," he shakes his head in mock defeat. "Those were clean clothes, you know," he says to cats.
"Brother and sister in arms," Bucky smiles.
"Evil step-siblings."
"Perfect, beautiful creatures who have never done a thing wrong in their lives."
"Is that the caption on your latest post?" Sam teases.
Bucky scowls, affronted that Sam already knew he'd posted the picture, then just shakes his head. "No, but that would've been a good one. Next time," he says.
"Yeah, yeah," Sam says. "You wanna carry your basket of beautiful creatures upstairs for me?"
Bucky rolls his eyes but picks up the basket nonetheless, Sam trailing behind him, talking about lint rollers and dinner plans while the cats slumber on.
tell me the fic you wish i would write!

Just read The Article™ and I'm gonna toss my hot take out there. First off, I'm glad to see that most of the posts I've seen in here have defended Anthony Mackie bc the backlash on Twitter has been ridiculous. Bc here's the thing: yes, it's disappointing to hear, in so many words, that the actor who plays one half of your favorite ship reacted negatively when asked about it. But we can't just pretend that this is the first time it's ever happened. For years in this fandom, we've pretended like Seb (and Chris Evans, to some extent) secretly ship(s) Stucky/SamBucky/etc. I've seen jokes about secret groupchats where they share shipping memes together, posts deconstructing interview responses, hyper-analyzing the ways they snuck queer moments under the Marvel radar, people taking the most lukewarm answers as complete validation and ignoring all the rest. And I have to ask (though the answer is obvious) why do we do those things, despite the amount of times they've both expressed noticeable discomfort around shipping, but condemn Anthony Mackie as a homophobe the first time he's ever explicitly said something like this? Yes, his response was poorly worded, yes, it stings to know that's the way he feels, but let's not pretend he's the first actor to say he's uncomfortable with the fetishization of m/m relationships or the concept of fandom/shipping, in general.
Similarly, I've seen people coming out of the woodwork to say that there was not a single thing wrong with his answer, but that we should hate Sebastian Stan, because he's a racist, because,,,,,idk, the internet said so? And yes, I am aware of his girlfriend, the I Tonya "take a knee" post, the Instagram like from 2017, etc. None of these are telling of character. They are telling of ignorance, perhaps, but not malice.
Ignorance is the key, here. Anthony Mackie has, rightfully, spoken at length about the importance of having a black Captain America (the impact of which I am worried will be diminished by all the white fans deciding he's a homophobe, over all this.) That is his lived experience. Sebastian has frequently talked about the impacts of growing up in Romania and how that still affects him, today. They have both faced hardship/discrimination based on factors outside of their control. But they are straight men. They do not have the lived experience of the queer community, nor can they fully understand just how important and meaningful the representation of a popular superhero being gay would be (especially because most of their encounters with shipping have been with straight, white girls who fetishize and dehumanize the shit out of them.) Perhaps someone should take them aside and explain that to them, but until then, I can't judge them for their current discomfort. I mean, hell, if you knew that strangers were drawing art of you and your best friend having sex and knew almost none of the context around why, I can't imagine you'd be thrilled about it.
TLDR, we all need to take a step back and look at things from perspectives other than our own. Because it is too easy to put ourselves into a bubble and criticize people outside of it who may not realize that they sound insensitive. We've got to stop assuming the worst of people and taking the words of strangers to heart, so often. It's not good for anyone.

hello pals!! if you follow me for my art then please read!
i’m not gonna be posting art here from now on bc i’ve been having an issue with tumblr tags over the past few months and i’ve kinda given up on it if i’m honest 🤣 my posts will show up in the tags for a good hour then vanish and i’ve left it up to luck everytime (sometimes it stays, sometimes it goes, mostly it goes).
i’ve contacted tumblr staff abt it and they gave the expected answer abt competitive tags and no guarantee that every post will show up in a search/tag so lol
the only platform i’ve had no issues with, algorithm/engagement wise is (shockingly) instagram so if you enjoy my sambucky art, i’m over there as @ sumbacky :-) i’m also v active on twitter @ bunetties too.
thank y’all for reading and have a great day/night 🙏💖
